Yeppp, kh has been pounding into our heads the concept of precious/painful memories being locked away for literal decades....and hey, remember how in the Final World Sora acknowledged that he still needs to thank Namine? Nomura specifically brought that back up as something Sora needs to do and didn’t resolve it. I wonder why...

I have more stuff to add that I can’t articulate well at the moment but:

Sora’s heart breaking eh? Not suspicious framing here at all no

I’m sure Re:Coded isn’t important foreshadowing at all 😏

And this again (which released soon after Re:Mind iirc. Pointed timing anyway.)

And god...there’s that whole mess of a translation of Sora’s conversation with Nameless Star that obscures how Sora had already forgotten Riku’s sacrifice. (meaning he forgot it after the first time, then once again after saving Riku’s heart) Here’s a full detailed explanation of that scene: link Not included in that explanation is the novel even more directly shows how Sora had forgotten Riku’s sacrifice (or perhaps even more about Riku) in that scene though he vaguely remembers Riku’s words; Nameless Stars conviction reminds him of /someone/ but he just can’t think of who....

“Yeah? Someone’s coming for you?” Sora asked. “I cannot be certain. He’s been changed beyond recognition—his heart replaced with another’s. But were he to regain his old self, he would be distressed by my absence. So I choose to wait here, where he can find me.” Her strong conviction reminded Sora of someone… But who? Who did she remind him of?

Sora looked closely at the glowing apparition. She really doesn’t give up—it’s a lot like Aqua. But there’s someone else she makes me think of more…

To the audience it’s abundantly clear that she is reminding him of Riku, yet Sora, not remembering Riku’s sacrifice, can’t piece it together. And once you learn who the Nameless Star is, the fact that she is reminding Sora of Riku sure is....something

(Also not sure if you’ve already seen but here’s what Riku actually said. "Sora, you don’t believe that, I know you don’t” doesn’t seem like a terrible official translation but as with many things in kh, specific phrases are very important and this one is both a callback to when Kairi said “I believe in you” in kh1 triggering the light tunnel and also has ramifications for the conversation with Nameless Star- and also it’s just better in general for how it shows Riku just directly saying that he believes in Sora in a moment when Sora didn’t believe in himself. The english is...frustrating.

He forgot it because the pain of it was too much to bear so it's locked up in his heart in order to protect his heart from breaking #2. His heart DID break and those broken off pieces contain the memory which then ended up in Yozora's heart hence Yozora's appearance #3. Someone is actively or unknowingly siphoning off those memories. Basically a Namine situation or something like that #I've been leaning towards 2 for a while because it explains so many more things but honestly it could be any of them.#I feel like Kingdom Hearts exploring the concept of a literal broken heart is so ripe and something I can see it doing #since it constantly makes metaphysical concepts very literal #In any case what I do know is that the memory is absolutely vital and it will come back in an enormous way #It's pivotal #This is a plot point too big to have been taken care of in kh3

I've been thinking about star wars and the expectations and features of certain types of storytelling - mythopoetic, war drama, politicial commentary, tragedy n all that jazz - a good bit lately, but ever since I finished screechers reach I've been caught up about folklore and fairytales as a bit of worldbuilding. I wanna know what Jedi fables look like

#space wizards and curses #amca folks made a really neat bit of analysis talking about the secular nature of the empire and compared that to the ways in which Jedi #are talked about - and I think there is some really interesting facets to explore for both stories that are materially grounded #and the metaphysical aspect that (in this setting) can cross into that #I feel like Quinlan vos as a character concept is HUGELY fascinating even tho I haven't checked out much of his stuff yet #also I think of all of this with respect to the imaginary post original trilogy world that lives on in my head #also where is that post about the Jedi as witchers i need to find that again #this is all similarly connected to that person who was talking about star wars canon as stories to be taken with a grain of salt in world #like as it's own body of folklore #sw #star wars #I just think iterative bodies of work where people are playing around with ideas and concepts and themes within the same world is COOL okay #narratives narratives narratives
