A lot of great actors were born on April 3rd. Ben Mendelsohn and Leslie Howard are my favorites, completely different but both are/were brilliant actors. So being the movie nerd I am I watch my favorite films with them on this day. I highly recommend watching any of their performances. I don’t think either get enough attention. #benmendelsohn #lesliehoward #mississippigrind #thescarletpimpernel1934 #april3rd #happybirthday #imamovienerd https://www.instagram.com/p/Cb6QYgTN66hZqHF1YCNGPyma53aAeJh2smk3sM0/?utm_medium=tumblr

A great shot of Humphrey Bogart as Duke Mantee in THE PETRIFIED FOREST (1936), which is the film that launched Bogie’s career. Bogart played the part on Broadway, and it was only because Leslie Howard insisted that Warner Bros. cast him in the film version. Bogart remained grateful to Howard for the rest of his life, and Bogie named his daughter Leslie in tribute to the pivotal role Leslie Howard played in his career. #humphreybogart #thepetrifiedforest #lesliehoward #bettedavis #oldhollywood #classicfilm #warnerbros #goldenageofhollywood #gratitude https://www.instagram.com/p/Byqyv_GHAZM/?igshid=1rnyjbvnlj1l1

Not actually on the official list but I recently finished the book. It’s a classic case of book being better than the movie, but I really enjoy these lil moments with Howard changing his countenance when Oberon looks at him. Felt very Sir Percyish. #icandigit #scarletpimpernel #sirpercy #percyisbae #lesliehoward #merleoberon #1934film https://www.instagram.com/p/BdmFG6vBRd8/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=du607mw7l28s

The Petrified Forest, Bogart's first big Hollywood break, premiered in St. Louis, Missouri, on this day in 1936. Bogie played the part of gangster Duke Mantee on Broadway, but Warner Bros. didn't want him for the film. He got the part only because Broadway co-star Leslie Howard, who was already a big star and had script approval, said he would not make the film without Bogart. Forever grateful, Bogart named his daughter Leslie! #thepetrifiedforest #humphreybogart #lesliehoward #bettedavis #oldhollywood #classicfilm #onthisday #warnerbros #icons #blackandwhite #stlouis #missouri #dukemantee https://www.instagram.com/p/BtUjWRAl8ob/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=125tpdn5ipxui

🇫🇷 Autant en emporte le vent. 🇺🇸 Gone with the wind*. 🇩🇪 Vom Winde verweht. 🇪🇸 Las palabras se las lleva el viento. 🇮🇹 Via col vento. + + This expression was already used in the thirteenth century. Since the sixteenth century it has a meaning similar to that of today, linked to vanity, the fleetingness of things and promises without continuation, alluding to the fragile human works that the wind sweeps in 'Leaving no trace, making them fall into oblivion ("... and the wind carried them away without any trace being found" in the Old Testament). + + *Gone with the Wind" is an American film by #VictorFleming made in 1939, adapted from the eponymous #novel by #MargaretMitchell published in 1936. #VivienLeigh #ClarkGable #LeslieHoward #OliviaDeHavilland (à Cnit)
