#LIKE. WHAT WAS MIMIC LIKE FOR ANGO

anyway though. about ango and betrayal, since metas and reactions depends more and more on treating it as fact
????
if what happened in dark era was that it seemed like ango joined mimic but in fact he was spying on them for the mafia and the reveals stopped there
no one would say ango betrayed mimic
given that what he was doing in the mafia for the special division IS what he was doing in mimic for the mafia, we shouldn't say he betrayed the mafia either
moreover, the current special ability division betrayal isn't on either; given the situation, the special ability division has been taken over by its own enemy - or at least ango has cause to think so. he's still acting as a special ability division, just independently/outside of orders
----------
there's a truth to this idea that ango has betrayed every organisation though. it's that he betrayed his friends. that is a lot more difficult to explain, but for everyone involved - ango included - it does count as a betrayal
plus the fact that we the readers/viewers are constantly misled as to which organisation ango belongs to 'oh he's a mafia member - wait no he sold the mafia to mimic - oh no he IS a mafia member - WAIT WHAT HE WORKS FOR THE GOVERNMENT' and 'of COURSE he's a government agent the seventh division IS a government agency - oh actually he is working with dazai ???' i get why it's popular
but ango is not actually a chronic backstabber, there's just no reason to assume we actually KNOW what he truly is loyal to
especially since. as i said previously. he DID betray the special ability agency way back in dark era :p

I've been having a lot of reverse!skk thoughts lately.
Setting up some context: Oda never died during the Mimic arc. Dazai still unravelled Mori's plan and now there's a huge rift between them. Dazai never trusted Mori completely, and now he barely does. Their dynamic had turned into a power play between them.
Oda's kids still died. Oda lives having survived his suicidal massacre but the weight of his loss and the blood on his hands weighs on him. He is no longer a pacifist. His dream for writing a novel is gone. Dazai has tried to help him, but he can barely help himself so he's kinda bad at it.
Ango's hanging out with the government now! No one trusts him :/
Chuuya leaves a few months after the Mimic incident. He comes across a set of documents proving Mori's involvement with the Arahabaki project as well as his personal tied with the military doctor that is Chuuya's real father. After failing to kill Mori for his betrayal, Chuuya is now a traitor. No one knows why he tried to suddenly kill the Boss, but the incident itself is whispered throughout the entirety of the Mafia. People point to Chuuya's origins in the Sheep as proof that he was a traitor all along, bidding his time.
Dazai doesn't know why. Its driving him crazy.
Chuuya thinks Dazai knew the entire time. They're a mess of zero communication.
Chuuya spends his time hiding out in different parts of the world (he's got friends in the UK so there's that!) He looks for his parents and finds them, only to leave them behind like he's done in canon. He's aware the Mafia is keeping tabs on them, but that's not the only reason why he left.
He gets a little reckless, beats up some bad guys. He doesn't know exactly what to do with his life, so he's kind of mess.
His little vigilante spree reaches Chief Taneda, who sends Ango to keep tabs on him and offer him a job. Can't have a former military experiment of infinite power running around without supervision.
Chuuya, uh, does not take the offer well (poor Ango).
Chief Taneda finally confronts him in person, says if he wants a job Taneda knows a guy who is not affiliated with the government and whom Chuuya might like (received almost as badly, but Chuuya considers it).
While Chuuya's mulling over this weird offer, he runs into a human trafficking organization that was in conflict with the Sheep back in the day. He's got an excuse to beat up more bad guys. Guess who he ends up running into (yes it's the Agency).
More specifically, it's Ranpo! They squabble, they team up, the works. Ranpo is like "Do you want a job" and Chuuya is like "That's sus but I'll think about it" (he does in fact want it)
Chuuya ends up meeting the other Agency members before he agrees (Ranpo 100% has nothing to do with that. Totally.) He likes them. He thinks they're all insane. He misses having people around who aren't there to double cross him. He takes the job.
Enterance Exam! I'm so sorry Kunikida.
Chuuya avoids the PM like the plague.
And then he meets Atsushi.

omg au where only atsushi and dazai time travel back to idk dark era maybe a little earlier but whatever - anyway - dazai, for the most part, is pretending to be his old self but obviously they arent gonna let atsushi stay so atsushi runs away and dazai meets him half way and now he's keeping a little kid in his apartment (a few years earlier and it would have been a shipping container) and yeah
oda is delighted that dazai is taking care of a kid - ango is hella anxious
akutagawa does not know who this white haired boy is that sneakily approaches him and wants to hang out all the time or why dazai is suddenly weirdly nice (by dazai's standards tho)
chuuya just wants a drink
baby atsushi is taking the steps to befriend the ada - dazai still wants to mimic his two years on the run before joining the ada - but they have to keep oda alive obviously
hmmm what else - dazai doesn't allow them to just fix everything he's got some plan to mimic the original time line - just slightly to the left - and atsushi reluctantly agrees to not kidnap the akutagawas
atsushi really likes oda obvi and he's trying to make sure dazai and ango remain friends - even if this dazai is pushing against it becuz he's still dazai w/ the future memories
anyway

How do you think Atshi and Dazai's relationship compare to their relationship in beast, i feel like its a topic thats been left behind when talking abt beast
Ooo this is an interesting one.
The relationship between Dazai and Atsushi in BEAST is really interesting already, I love how Asagiri didn't just make it a carbon copy of Dazai and Akutagawa in the main timeline, instead its completely unique but equally fucked up. But comparing it to the main timeline I think it is the best example of just how far BEAST Dazai is willing to go in order to ensure Oda's happiness in that universe, even at the cost of tormenting someone main Dazai really cares about.
First lets look at Dazai and Atsushi's relationship in the main series.
Atsushi has absolute loyalty, love and respect for Dazai in the main series, Dazai was the first person who ever affirmed Atsushi's right to live and might be the first person to ever offer him kindness. Dazai also works as Atsushi's motivation to save Kyouka, he thinks of how Dazai chose to save him even though he would be a massive burden to the ADA, and this gives him the conviction to save Kyouka despite her past.
Tumblr media
Dazai is the person who Atsushi always thinks of when he's in a terrible situation, he's who Atsushi wants to run too when he thinks he can't win a fight, in other words he makes Atsushi feel safe something he probably almost never felt in the orphanage where he was abused for anything he did.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(from 55 mintues)
These two pages capture this perfectly
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And eventually Atsushi is able to replace visions of the orphanage director (who appeared when he was at his lowest and made him feel like he had no right to live) with Dazai giving him encouragement and the focus to keep going.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On Dazai's end:
I think Atsushi is probably the person who sees Dazai's true suffering better than anyone else alive in the series, even including characters like Chuuya and Ango. Atsushi (very similar to Oda) will often cut through Dazai's jokes and see through to what he is really thinking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Atsushi is also one of very few characters to openly be kind to Dazai, off the top of my head it's only him and Oda who ever really say nice things about him to his face.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(notice both times Dazai is surprised by this)
Atsushi is even able to pick up a hint of Dazai's past when Dazai talks about mimic in 55 minutes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So suffice to say, in the main series Dazai and Atsushi are extremely close, both being essentail to the others growth and a person throughout the series, I could probably go on for pages about this but for now let's talk about how BEAST twists this relationship into one of the darkest in the series.
BEAST Atsushi suffers more than almost anyone else thanks to Dazai's plan. Since he can't use Fukuzawa's ability to control Atsushi's ability, he makes Atsushi wear a spiked collar that stabs him in the neck while transformed and uses the pain of that to help Atsushi remain in control of the tiger.
Tumblr media
Not to mention that BEAST Atsushi, just like regular Atsushi hates being hurt and hurting others, he is constantly terrified on every mission he is sent on and hates the pain he has to go through each time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So why is he so loyal to Dazai? Unlike Akutagawa Dazai didn't physically abuse Atsushi until he became dogmatically loyal, he didn't need too, all he had to do was twist the suffering caused by the orphanage director in Atsushi's mind and make it work in his favour.
Trigger warning: Psychological abuse!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was Dazai's method, give Atsushi an order he knew he would disobey and set things up so it would lead to Atsushi undergoing unimaginable pain and suffering beyond anything Dazai could inflict himself. Dazai twisted that pain in Atsushi's mind into
"This is what it feels like to disobey me"
And since then, Atsushi has been completely incapable of not following Dazai's orders.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another important factor is that Dazai himself is very friendly with Atsushi, letting him call him "Dazai-san" instead of boss and giving him praise for his work. This just further cements in Atsushi's mind that Dazai is the kind, generous person who tried to help him, which makes him even more loyal to Dazai.
There's a lot more I could go over, but I don't have time right now. Overall I think BEAST really shows just how far Dazai is willing to go to achieve what he wants, the way he treats BEAST Atsushi is incredibly cruel, and then leaving him alone in a world where his only purpose was fulfilling Dazai's orders is another level of cruelty.

𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒓𝒆: dazai feels nostalgic/ fluff?
since it's been requested, I wrote a little something for this♡
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's been a few months since you joined the Ada and until today Dazai has managed to keep you arm's length. Strangely enough, it was harder than he expected.
Despite the agonizing guilt you stirred up in him, the brunette found himself oddly drawn to you. Maybe it was your kind smile or the way you carried yourself, or maybe you just reminded him of Oda. Yes, everything about you was a painful reminder of his past, of what he'd done and yet, he allowed himself to get a little bit closer to you.
Oh, and how bitterly he regretted it. A friendly chat here, a mission together there, sharing a drink after work one night- they all led to that moment, to the day you finally discovered his secrets.
It was around 6 p.m and he was about to leave the office when you suddenly popped up behind him.
"Hi Dazai, got any plans tonight?" you asked with that sweet smile of yours that got his head spinning.
"Nothing in particular" he replied nonchalantly.
You beamed, sliding an arm under his "Great then, we're going out for a drink"
Before he got a chance to protest you marched out of the building, dragging him alongside you. Soon enough you made it to your destination, a cozy little underground pub with burnt red brick walls and yellowing rockstar posters, remnants of a decades-old era in Yokohama.
Taking a seat on one of the empty seats at the bar you ordered two glasses of whiskey on ice. The tension between you grew almost palpable with each minute that passed. As you focused your gaze on the amber liquid in the glass your colleague did his best to push the racing thoughts in the back of his mind.
"So..." you eventually spoke up, sliding your thumb over the brim of your glass "I wanted to talk to you about something"
Dipping your hand in the pocket of your coat you procured a folded picture. Dazai's heart dropped as he watched you unfold it, his stomach churning; it was the photo he'd taken at Lupin with Odasaku and Ango all those years ago.
For a few moments you both remained silent as he fumbled for words. "Look, I can explain" he began but you immediately cut him off.
"No, Dazai, you don't need to explain anything. You never mentioned knowing him so I assume you didn't wanna talk about it. I just wanna know one thing."
The man nodded weakly, averting his gaze; he couldn't bear facing you.
"You see, my brother never opened up to me about what he was doing at work. I knew he was involved with some... questionable people, but I've always thought he was a good person." You took a deep breath in and leaned closer, trying to get him to look at you. "I just wanna know what kind of person he really was."
Finally meeting your gaze, Dazai spoke in a weak voice "He was my closest friend, the kindest person I've ever known..." Once those words left his lips he couldn't stop talking; memories resurfaced, spilling from him like news on the radio. You listened carefully to his speech, punctuated only by occasional sighs and sips from his glass, and nodded.
He told you everything, from the day they met and how their friendship progressed, to the conflict with Mimic that led to his untimely death.
"He had this ideal, you know, never to kill anyone. He wanted to write a book at some point and thought that murderers had no right to talk or write about life, to create something beautiful with hands that bear the blood of other people." Raising the glass to his lips, Dazai downed the rest of his drink, the alcohol burning the back of his throat as he swallowed.
"I see... He does sound like a wonderful person" A faint smile tugged at your lips "Thanks for telling me everything"
"No problem. It was good to finally talk to someone about it. I would appreciate if you didn't mention this to the others tho"
You gave him a reassuring nod, holding your little finger out in front of him. "I won't, Dazai. Pinky promise. "
The brunette chuckled, locking his finger with yours as he held your gaze. "I'll trust you on that and please, call me Osamu from now on"

Dazai Osamu: Masquerade
Genre: Angst
Tumblr media
No— no, not Yes dearer than you. (Fyodor's version)
(。ŏ﹏ŏ) PM!Dazai x gn!reader inspired by Dangerously Yours Masquerade & junosmindpalace
A cold, damp, and busy night. The streets of Yokohama were bustling with vendors, tourists, and locals. The night Dazai ran away from the mafia, the night he turned his back on you.
As glad as you are that he was willing to change the path set for him, you couldn't help but feel a sense of betrayal that he just ran.
The moment you had heard of Oda's death and Dazai's disappearance your heart shattered. You had led the clean-up where Oda died, making sure he was given a proper burial.
That night you went all around Yokohama, looking for Dazai. You found him in the Mimic's base. You would've thought he'd be at the bar, the same bar he had gone to with Oda and Ango. 'To the stray dogs!' They used to say. Now they've strayed far away.
You approached Dazai from behind. He was standing behind a window; looking at the moonlit sky. As you stood next to him you noticed a faint smile on his face. "Look darling, a shooting star! Did you wish?" He spoke softly. You knew from his tone and actions what this entailed; he was leaving.
The shooting star perfectly reflected onto his dark eyes. "I didn't have time.." You mumbled quietly. "Hm? Then there is something you wish for." He spoke as he faced you. You nodded softly "Yes.." You mumbled again. "What is it that you wish for?" He asked "I wish we were two other people. Two other people who needn't say goodbye." You replied with a melancholic tone as you looked at the night sky with a soft smile on your face and an arrow through your heart.
"Perhaps it can be that way." He spoke as he kept his gaze on you. "You know it can't be that way." Your expression hadn't changed, a faux sense of happiness filled your body.
He moved closer to you, holding your chin with his fingers to make you face him "Come with me, please." You met his gaze, the same gaze that would leave you nervous was now pleading "If I betray you, I betray myself. If I betray the mafia, I betray my family. My family is very dear to me.." You looked at him with a soft expression. It's as if the whole world had stopped the moment he noticed the soft look in your eyes.
"Dearer than I?" he asked; not taking his fingers away from your chin "Yes Dazai, dearer than you." Your expression still remained as if your conversation was simple and light-hearted. "You were part of the family that I so desire and now—you're leaving.." You added as you removed your chin from his grasp.
"You might as well keep my heart with you darling, it's already full of you." Dazai gently spoke, he hugged you from behind; resting his chin on the top of your head while his arms looped around your neck. "You're a fool Dazai Osamu." You whispered with the slightest hint of anger in your voice.
"Isn't any man who falls in love?" He spoke with such passion "Do you know what you are to me? You're something to believe in again. You're the type of person that had ceased to exist for me." He added as his grasp on you tightened.
"But you are none of those things to me." You spoke softly as you gave in to his grasp; facing the ground with your hands to your side. "You know that's not true darling.. I love you and I know you love me." He calmly spoke. "Stop, just stop. Take your foolish little dream and your heart and go. Please go."
Dazai just tightened his grasp as you spoke, he knew the words unspoken. "You know nothing about me.." You added, you spoke with such a quiet yet angry tone that even the smartest of minds would be deceived by your words.
He turned to you to face him, he held both your hands in his as he spoke "I know everything about you. I know your favorite flower, your favorite books, the scents you like, the food you eat, your ambitions, your past, your present.." Dazai spoke with passion and a hopeful gleam in his eyes that you'd go with him "but most importantly.. I know that you love me."
You looked away as he spoke "I've seen you in a thousand plays, read you in as many books. When I saw your favorite things I'd melt at the thought of how happy you'd be if I got it for you." Your eyes widened as he spoke, you look back at him; meeting his soft gaze that you could just drown in. His gaze never left your face even when you were hesitant to face him.
"Oh stop, stop! I am not the person you dream of Dazai! Don't be so foolish!" You exclaimed as you looked at his brown eyes; hoping to catch a glimpse of who you were back then. "You don't know what you're saying darling." He calmly spoke as he looked down at you, tightening his grasp on your hands.
Dazai pulled you to him, he wrapped his arms around you as he hugged your anxieties away. His grasp was comforting, such a shame that you would have to say goodbye.
"You have to believe me, since the day we met I was completely yours. I may have been a foolish teenager; not knowing that my feelings were genuine but it's much different now." He spoke as he gently caressed the back of your head. "When I leave there will be worlds around us, worlds that can't be bridged with words. I'd like to take you to the other side, just you and I." You suppressed tears as he spoke but he knew that they were there.
"Please.. don't leave.." You quietly mumbled in his arms. He still gently stroked the back of your head as he thought of a response "I can't betray him.." Dazai quietly replied "but you can betray me?!" You spat out quickly. Dazai's eyes widened as he stroked the back of your head then his grasp on you tightened as every muscle in his body tensed up.
"Please.. don't make me choose.." You felt a sense of guilt rushing through your veins, a sense that wasn't there before or something that waivered quickly. "I'm sorry.." You mumbled, Dazai then smiled softly. You both stood in silence as he held you in his arms for the last time.
Author's notes:
I love angst, I will definitely make more, I might make more inspired by Dangerously Yours but other episodes this time. I will mainly write for Dazai and Fyodor though.

DAZAI THEORY!!!!!
So, seeing that my theories have been getting some attention, here's another one!!
So, Bungo Stray dogs season 5 started and ended all in the month of September of 2023. After that, they said aren't getting any more content UNTIL 2026. That was enough time for me to think of a bunch of theories like:
Will Sigma join the Armed Detective Agency now that the Decay Of Angels are defeated?
Will Poe also join due to the Guild disbanding and him constantly helping out Ranpo?
If Aya grew up, would she join the Armed Detective Agency?
What will Bram, Nikolai and the rest of the Hunting Dogs do now since Fukichi and Fyodor are dead?
Is Tachihara alive, a vampire or dead?
But the one I want to talk about right now is our loveable and heavily simped over suicidal maniac,
Osamu Dazai.
I know this post will be a bit long but hear me out!!
Is Dazai going to re-join the Port Mafia? Think about it!!
In Season 2, episodes 1 thru 4 shows Dazai life in the Port when he was 18. When Odasaku is speaking to Mori about going after Mimic's leader, Mori says, "in four years, Dazai would have surpressed me and take the position of heaf of the Port Mafia." And if you do the very simple math: 18 + 4 = 22. Dazai right now currently is 22. But wait!! There is more.
Mori has asked Dazai not once! But twice to come back to the Mafia and even offered him back his position! We have also seen how many times in the ADA they leave out Dazai, even a clip on the Manga where it shows everyone and they say that everyone is here despite Dazai not being there. AND! It could be that Sigma could be his replacement. Think about it! Yosano is the healer, Kenji and Atsushi are the brute force, Tanazaki is the diversion, Kunikida will be the future President and Ranpo is the brains! And what is Dazai's role in all this? The pretty face?!
Now before some of you come after me saying "What about Dazai's promise to Odasaku about being good?!" Chill out, I've got my explanation for that. Dazai could rejoin the Port Mafia and become the boss but he could still be a good guy, just like Odasaku with the whole "I'm an agent in the Port Mafia but I don't kill" sort of thing.
And a few other things: Season 5 acted in a way as to how the Detective Agency would function without Dazai.
Dazai crimes somehow got leaked even though Ango told Mushitaro that he had deleted them all so Dazai could be free from his past life.
Mori is sitting down in his seat in season 1 but not in season 3.
Dazai also takes off the pendant he wears in the season 4 outro.
Well, that's all I have today! Tell me what other theories from BSD or from any other fandoms!
- sincerely me (yes, Dear Even Hansen, I'm a theater kid.)

Why Mori indirectly killed Oda + Why he led Dazai out of the pm
A very short analysis
Killing Oda was the most logical solution, it was; to kill a lower member or to kill more pm members that possibly were higher rank, it didn’t make sense, and even Dazai in the light novel dark era recognized it:
Dazai glances at the at the muzzle still pointed at his face, following which, he turns back towards the center of the room, standing right in front of Ougai, quietly speaking. “I’ve been thinking. Between the mafia, Mimic, and the Black Special Ops Forces, who is the one manipulating these three organizations? When I realized Ango was a member of the Special Ability Department, I reached a conclusion. That conclusion was that this is the Special Ability Department’s plan. Their motive was to let the mafia and Mimic, two illegal organizations causing the government a headache, to kill each other off. If they were lucky, they would both perish together – I thought this was a playbook written by the Special Ability Department, that this was the real reason behind this war. But I was wrong.” Dazai pauses after these words, looking at Ougai. Ougai smiles, shrugging his shoulders, “I’m listening.” “The person who painted this picture was you, Boss. Using the illegal organization Mimic as a threat, you pulled the Special Ability Department onto the negotiation table. And the pawn in the center of this plan was Ango.” Dazai speaks with half lidded eyes. “Boss, the reason you sent Ango to infiltrate Mimic’s ranks was not to obtain information on Mimic. Because you knew that Ango was a spy from the Special Ability Department from the very beginning. Am I right?” Ougai does not affirm or refute this, only saying, “Huh.” “If you think about it that way, the meaning behind several truths will change accordingly. At the same time Ango passed us insider information on Mimic, he had to pass that information on to the Special Ability Department as well. They are undead ghosts that will not listen to negotiations or compromises, only seeking a battlefield. Such danger cannot be compared to the mafia. If this went on any further, conflict would break out between them and the government agencies. This is what the Special Ability Department thought. The next thing they thought of was to fan the flames of war between Mimic and the Port Mafia, manipulating matters by leaking information to Mimic through Ango. As long as Mimic bites the hook, the mafia has no reason not to fight back. Based on this line of thinking, they instructed Ango to engage in combat – all according to your plan.” “You’re overestimating me, but it’ll still be troublesome for me.” Ougai smiles. “To the mafia, the government agencies are also a demon-like existence, an opponent that cannot be manipulated easily.” “That is why you would come up with such a large scale plan – Because the value of that envelope is worth all that effort.” Dazai points to the black premium envelope beside Mori’s hand.
pages 125 and 126 of the light novel
By what they talk about, its pretty obvious that Dazai recognized it was a logical solution, yet he had got very attached, Dazai has little to no problems in using people, but the problem was that Dazai had got too attached with Oda. Not to mention that getting the envelope was beneficial to the port mafia, it was like getting rid of two birds with a stone or however it is said, and as I've said a lot of times, Mori goes to the option that benefits everyone in Yokohama or at least to the pm.
He is called "The one who fell to the optimal solution" isn't he?
next topic:
Why Mori led Dazai out of the pm
This is more of what I believe but I still wanted to include it
Mori led Dazai out of the pm because of two reasons:
He was afraid Dazai would aspire to take his position as a boss
He wanted Dazai to learn a lesson
It's mentioned that he is afraid of Dazai so we aren't going to talk about this topic right now, but about the lesson topic; Mori wanted Dazai to become more like him in case Dazai were to take the boss position, but Mori didn't thought that Dazai had grown that attached to Oda, and while Dazai did recognize that killing Oda was the most logical solution, he didn't like it, he would have preferred that more members had lost their lives than Oda losing his, and therefore to Mori; Dazai didn't want to learn the lesson.
Thank you for reading
I got the quotes (if it can be considered that) from this pdf, i hope you enjoyed my analysis! its very short but what can we do

Bsd Beast except Oda and Dazai switch roles.
Oda was the youngest executive in the Port Mafia. His eyes were empty and cold like ice shards.
He was dangerous, always steps ahead of his enemy even without his ability. Everyone knew better than to cross him.
Oda did his job robotically, never changing his expression because he didn't care. The only intresting part of Oda's day was seeing how he would die.
And how he'd evade deaths grasp once again.
That changed when Dazai came into his life. The older man had one point been a famous child assassin. But that life was long behind him.
Dazai was wicked smart. He never lost his talents that made him so feared. And yet to Oda he was the kindest man he'd ever met.
Dazai would happily regail him with stories of his jobs. Which were rather odd and mundane for the Port Mafia.
And yet Oda loved hearing about them. He'd find himself smiling, even laughing when Dazai complained about the small gaggle of orphans he'd adopted.
Somehow Dazai always knew what to say, always knew how to make Oda feel human. Oda asked him once about what made him change?
Dazai had chuckled saying it sounded ridiculous. But told him about a book he read, about a man who had approached him and told him the next installment sucked.
And to give it a try himself.
"I didn't enjoy anything but the kill. But if I wanted to write, to capture the world and all the little things people enjoy, I would need to give it up. I'd never find enjoyment in life if all I craved was death."
Oda didn't understand what he meant until he died. Ango was revealed as a spy, Dazai had been given an order to face off against a member of Mimic.
It could've been Oda, should've been Oda because his ability was the same as Andre Guilde's. They would've cancelled each other.... But the Boss had selected Dazai.
He said it was because nullifucation would be more useful but Oda knew the true reason. And he knew Dazai knew it too, and still walked to his death.
Oda remembered holding his dying friend.
How he told Oda that he would find no enjoyment in this world if all he craved was death. That if him if he saw no difference in light or dark, than join the side that saves lives.
"Save some orphans, find a hobby... Live Odasaku... If not for yourself, than maybe for me."
Oda left the Port Mafia that night. Dissappearing underground and gaining a new position.
"And what time do you call this?!" Yelled Kunikida as his partner walked in late again. "You've thrown my schedule completly off balance! We're late for a meeting with the President!"
Oda hummed "sorry" they all knew he was not sorry in the slightest. "I was helping an old woman cross the road."
"For 45 minutes?!"
"It was a big road"
Oda was as deadpan and serious as always, it really made hard to tell when he was joking or not. But knowing Oda, he probably did do that.
Kunikida wasn't sure if it was good or bad, he sighed. "Come on!" The rest of the Agency watched their antics, amused.
"Are they always like this?" Asks Akutugawa, the only one not used to their antics. "Since day one" said Yosano with a snort. "Let's go before Kunikida realises we're not in the meeting either."
Akutagawa nodded, following her. He couldn't help but think about the man who had saved his life.
Oda Sakunosuke.
Just who are you?

Chuuya being oda's orphan / little brother, it started because dazai got really sick the time of the mission when he was supposed to investigate the old boss supposed return ( which could be his fault him trying out a new suicide method and diving into the river but it was really cool like freezing temperature so he got a Bad cold and he tasked oda to go in his place)
So oda discretly go to investigate with hirotsu and he encounter chuuya, humor him, shenaningan happen and they meet more and more and eat curry together, they collaborate and uncovered the mystery chuuya still get betrayed by the sheep but was helped by oda and he didn't get into the mafia .
Oda try to hide him and dazai notice him acting weird he follow him and you have chuuya who think him of an intruder and hit him with a frying pan, then oda present them and made him swear to secrecy.
Dazai and chuuya doesn't get along at first because dazai got jealous and they constantly bicker to oda's headache, then the dragonhead conflict happen which without chuuya resulted in more loss for the mafia than canon and oda adopt the others orphans like in canon.
Chuuya wasn't here for the mimic conflict and didn't know about oda death or his last words just that dazai left and that oda is dead.
Without any contact and information , it was only by a stroke of Luck ( also called ango who was told by oda before his death about chuuya and meet him and make in sort to have him safe so he talked about it to taneda and chuuya joined the ADA ) that chuuya wasn't scooped by mori and manipulated into joining the mafia .
( but if you like angst feel free to imagine that it's what happen that mori learned about chuuya and to dazai horror used the situation to his benefice ( especially if here oda last word was also take care of chuuya)
But for the ada chuuya scenario they're many misunderstanding and hurt feelings but thanks to the others they work it out, chuuya learn the truth and they end up together.

(another) another dazai character study fic snippet - odasaku special appearance??
--
???. and--
A conversation, late at night in Bar Lupin with only an orange-and-black-spotted tabby as it’s witness:
“Hey, Odasaku?”
“Yeah?”
“You do know that I’m not a good person, right?”
“...Yeah.”
Ango cited that he had to leave early in preparation for some intelligence-related operations, though Dazai doesn't recall hearing about any crucial investigations—so it must either be so unimportant that Dazai doesn't oversee their work, or simply outside of his area of expertise. Maybe he should ask Chuuya, though he'd rather not ask the slug for anything.
“Huh! So you still want to be my friend regardless? That’s so—”
“What does you being a good or bad person have to do with me being your friend?”
A pause. The clink of a glass. (Dazai very, very carefully does. Not. Flinch.)
“Besides, not being a good person doesn’t mean you’re a bad person.”
“...So it’s like that! I didn’t know you were into saying such sappy things, Odasaku! You should tell some of those to Ango next time, I bet he’ll freak out—”
“Dazai. Listen to me.”
The clock ticks ten.
“...I’m listening.”
The cat purrs. A year from now, Ango Sakaguchi will betray the Port Mafia, and Oda Sakunosuke will die in Dazai’s arms after killing the entirety of Mimic in an act of revenge for the death of his adopted children. Dazai will come the closest to crying than he has ever since he was thirteen years old, and then disappear off the face of the planet for two years or so.
“You’re seventeen, Dazai.”
--
hi there! or hi there again. i love odasaku, and the dynamic between dazai and oda is definitely one of my favorites to write. i was debating on whether to make this scene as detailed as it was, or just include the dialogue because that's what's really important. i'll start editing soon so i'll figure it out somehow.
also, it's my opinion/headcanon that dazai definitely caught onto the fact that ango was kind of suspicious in little manners, but subconsciously denied/provided excuses for it because he valued ango as a friend.
i've read some parts of the day i picked up dazai, and it gave me a lot of insight to oda's character, especially since it's from his pov. not only that, for some reason odasaku is just really easy to write. i am a fan.

Tarot Assignment: Ango Sakaguchi
Tumblr media
Got to love our favourite double-triple-quadruple-whatever agent who canonically hates betrayal. He was surprisingly more difficult than I’d expected.
Ten of Wands: Although this card signifies a person who has achieved much in their lives, it’s tempered by them also having to take on a lot of responsibility as a result. They have to become good at prioritizing their duties, but at times, the stress of all the things others rely on them to do may get to them. Ango, in the series, is usually the one tasked with important decisions and has a lot of duties as a Special Division agent - while he is well-equipped to handle things like this (he is a professional) - he also finds himself constantly pulling all nighters and working relentlessly just to keep on top of everything.
Temperance (reversed): I debated strongly on powerful, dutiful cards like the Emperor or the Hierophant, but in the end, I felt this card worked best. Temperance is about balance, primarily, and being careful not to end up at extremes. When reversed, the card signifies imbalance and a struggle between conflicting sides, accompanied by feelings of anxiety and questioning what the right path is. Ango is constantly placed in uncomfortable positions, usually where he must betray one group to help another, or that brings to light his conflict between helping the group vs the individual. His scene after thinking back on Taneda’s words about sacrifice come to mind. I think what Ango needs more than anything is what the upright Temperance card represents - peace and moderation!
Three of Swords (reversed): This card signifies a loss of some kind, and the ensuing grief, guilt or suffering that follows. Ango is defined by his role in Dark Era. While Odasaku’s death wasn’t exactly his fault, the role he played in the Mimic situation itself leads to immense guilt and a need to assist (usually Dazai) in Odasaku’s memory. When reversed, the card says that you are still carrying this grief and guilt around with you, yet encourages you to keep moving forward anyways.

okay two versions of mafia dazai x ada kunikida + their adopted son atsushi
one
dark era
ok this would probably end up being an accidental fix it but um anyway
picture this, dark era dazai wandering around thinking up a new way to commit suicide
kunikida on his way back to the ada office after a mission
and atsushi who has managed to escape the orphanage and now is wandering in a new town
atsushi meets dazai while dazai's trying to drown himself like in canon
atsushi meets kunikida who notices a small starving kid drag someone out the river and immediately rushes to help
at this point kuni and dazai dont know each other
anyway
kunikida takes atsushi to eat and the drowning man is also there; they talk; atsushi is sweet
dazai's like "starving child do u wanna come with me" while kunikida is also inviting him to come w/ him to find a place to stay
now u might think why would dazai do this well idk something about a small child starving and exhausted but still finding in himself to help a stranger even tho itll leave him wet and cold was so surprising he didnt know what to do
and kunikida is just... kunikida and idk he's a nice guy
anyway
dazai and kunikida both argue atsushi should come with them and dazais like this guys probably right but its funny to see him riled up
anyway so theyre like okay whatever atsushi wut do u want
and atsushi, sweet tiny traumatized atsushi, doesn't wanna upset these ppl who seem so nice so he says both
and so the custody agreement starts
at first dazai doesn't tell anyone about atsushi becuz um who would want to admit they adopted a child to rile up a hot blond but
eventually as dazai and kunikida grow close to atsushi and to each other they find out about their jobs
kunikida is not happy about letting his son (whos only 4 years younger than him) live with mafia ppl around and makes dazai swear to protect him and dazais like okay fine ig
anyway
the only ppl who know atsushi in the mafia are oda and ango becuz um besties
chuuya knows somethings up but he hasnt quite figured it out
akutagawa has met atsushi but he doesn't know about atsushi and dazai
he does know this sweet kid who always greets him with a smile is under shared custody over two guys his brother who call themselves his dad but ya
atsushi isnt hiding it he's just shy around his first ever crush
anyway
atsushi loves the ada and fully wants to join but he also loves dazai but he has no desire to be with the mafia sense dazai has never let him meet anyone in the mafia while theyre on the clock if that makes sense
so essentially as my tags of the last post said
atsushi is the child of divorce that has to constantly move in between homes
but his parents are four years older than him
and not divorced becuz they arent even dating yet
and also he's accidentally the reason theyll ever get together
and also his homes r two rival organizations
anyway the fix it part comes from dazai having his in law family to help out when mimic comes but do with that what u will
and also same concept but theyre all older

I know I literally just woke up but the thing that hit me is like... Chuuya MUST know about what happened with Odasaku, right? He's an executive (or at least was made one after Dazai left), he must have been told at least a version of the story- now the question is, what exactly did Mori tell him?
Because we know that he wasn't really involved with the Mimic incident (or at least not with Dazai's aspect of it), and we know he previously expressed thinking that Dazai unforgivably fucks with friend and foe, aka that he doesn't really care about anything, so is it really out of the question that based on a probably manipulative account Mori gave him he thought that Dazai used Odasaku's death as merely an excuse to leave?
And then I'm like okay, but Chuuya knows Mori is a liar and a manipulator, so he would at least question it a bit- but them I'm like, would he??? Or would he be so hurt and angry that Dazai left that he would just go along with what Mori said and what fit best into his anger???
Because later, after he's forbidden from killing Dazai by Dazai's deus ex machina plan, and after the mafia and the ADA make a truce, Chuuya acts like Dazai is a part of his "herd" (people to be protected, even if hated) again, but we do see in several of their interactions that he's still struggling with balancing the mafia instinct of killing a traitor (especially a personal one) and the german shepherd instinct of protecting one of his own (because even though four years have passed, it's not like he could properly prepare himself for interacting with Dazai again).
And then I'm like, but he must know the truth on some level right??? One of Chuuya's most annoying (to him, I imagine) qualities is his temperament and his intellect not fitting with each other- that is, his intellect getting in the way of fully letting his temperament out (like we saw with the whole Ango thing in dead apple- his temperament had him destroying Ango's office and roughing Ango up a bit, but his intellect wouldn't let him kill Ango for something he knows Ango didn't do).
His temperament (and his experience with Dazai's destructive apathy) tell him that Dazai's nothing but a traitor and should be killed for it because that's what you do with traitors and he's an enemy now, but once that temperament has to be reined in because Dazai can't be killed, he has to deal with his intellect holding the reigns.
But then that's just another route of complex emotions, isn't it? Not just facing the possibility that Dazai is capable of placing human emotion and friendship above 'logical gain' (and what it means for all the times he wouldn't/couldn't do it before that), but that possibility being fact meaning that Dazai was right in leaving the mafia. That he was led by Chuuya's own morals ('herd' trumps all else/destroy anyone who hurts the herd), and that thus Chuuya killing him for it would be hypocritical.
I mean, I definitely don't think that it's on the conscious level yet (considering the many, many times that he's hurt Dazai so far, as understandable as it was (to a degree) under the circumstances); in fact, I'd say that it being subconscious is what irks his temperament even more. But then again, it could be that him being aware of it is what's making him angrier? Who knows...

didn’t care much for ango while watching the anime but now that i’m reading the dark era LN i have so many thoughts about him…excuse me while i ramble for a moment
ango’s not particularly expressive about it but he genuinely cared so much about oda (and still cares about dazai) as friends and you can tell it nearly broke him to betray the PM and lose his friendship with them both. i feel like he was in way too deep playing a triple agent for mimic, PM and the government to backtrack his betrayal but man did it kill him inside to do it anyways. what got to me specifically is their last scene in bar lupin where dazai effectively reveals all of ango’s schemes and threatens to not let him leave the bar alive, and ango is about to let him do whatever
Tumblr media
he is fully aware that he could die before the night ends and it reads to me as if he literally does not care, he knows how bad he fucked up here by betraying two of the people who could have actually cared about and loved him and he’s lost their trust indefinitely. might just be me going insane but for a moment here it almost seems as if he’d rather be killed by dazai or his men rather than keep living with the knowledge that he ruined the bond they had
and maybe dazai picks up on this and lets him live with that guilt because he decides it’s the best form of torture for ango
and yet before he leaves the bar he voices the tiniest shred of hope that things could go back to the way they were and to me it’s just more proof of how much it hurts him to lose his friends
Tumblr media
and especially after oda dies it’s pretty clear that the guilt of his own actions not only weighs him down but is the driving force behind a lot of his actions in the current manga/anime, particularly when it comes to helping dazai. even though dazai still holds a grudge against ango and they aren’t on good terms ango still feels like he has to redeem himself and make it up to dazai for betraying him and oda
just gonna sit here and scream for a bit
