The Color Purple Review- A Masterpiece Of Filmmaking & Acting Across The Board
When I was a kid around eleven or so I was able to see The Color Purple by director Steven Speilberg based on the book by Alice Walker. It was a very powerful experience for a kid that age. When I heard it was going to be turned into a Broadway musical I was skeptical. Now that successful musical has been turned into a movie. It has gone full circle.

Sally: When did I know? I remember exactly. Barry and I had just started dating, and he bought me this laptop because my screen was broken. And I just thought, "Wow." "Now here is a guy who knows exactly what he wants and is not afraid to go after it." And that was it. Hey, buddy.
Jon Hamm: Hey, bud. Can I get one of those with cheese?
Barry: Absolutely, Jon Hamm. Oh, you're the best.
Jon Hamm: Whoa! What is this? What is that, beryllium?
Barry: It's gold. Solid gold.
Jon Hamm: I'm really proud of you.
Barry: Thanks.
Jon Hamm: Can I make use of the bathroom in your house?
(Reality)
Barry: We have five guest rooms. Take your pick.

Stay Alive (2006)
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
When Miller (Adam Goldberg) inherits a video game from his recently deceased friend, he thinks nothing of it… until he realizes that Loomis’ real-life death is eerily similar to the one his avatar suffered. Unfortunately for Miller, Hutch (Jon Foster), Abigail (Samaire Armstrong), October (Sophia Bush), Phineas (Jimmi Simpson) and Swink (Frankie Muniz), they discover too late that if you die in Stay Alive, it’s not just the game that’s over, it’s your life.
Oh yes, Stay Alive is as dopey as it sounds. The only truly good thing about it is that when you see the footage of the game it actually looks like a real horror video game would. Every other aspect of this film is generic or irritating.
The first bug in this game is the characters, none of which you’ll care about or find likeable. It’s bad enough they’ve been written by someone who’s never interacted with a gamer. You sit and wait for the soon-to-be victims to be killed. When it comes to Phin, right now will not be soon enough. Unfortunately, even the deaths fail to satisfy. Many times they don’t make sense or seem to contradict the previously-established rules.
There’s a lot of horror movie noise here. Once Stay Alive gets booted up, we're constantly reminded that we should be scared. Shadows in the background, creepy noises, and ominous shots are pelted at the screen over and over until you just want to scream “Enough Already! I get it! This is a horror movie!” There’s no breathing room, meaning that even if there was tension, there’s no way the film could sustain it.
Video games are too new, and not in a way that they’re cryptic, weird and/or mysterious. Slipping a CD into your Playstation 2 and then grabbing a controller doesn’t inspire terror in any way - no matter what all the creepy pastas might say. Maybe if it centered around some weird text-based game someone dug up in their attic or something you just kind of stumbled upon. The Ring made a videocassette scary so anything’s possible. This? You wonder if the people involved even tried. The most fun you'll have is with the DVD menu. If you figure out which possible character goes with which shirt and which weapon, the correct combination gives you a secret word. Input them into the official website to create your very own morbid email signature. At least in theory you can. The website is no longer up.
Can you blame me for going into this one with no faith whatsoever? The premise of Stay Alive is dumb and it doesn’t even attempt to redeem itself with cool visuals, genuine scares, likeable characters, sparkling dialogue, tension or anything that makes a horror film noteworthy. I struggled to derive any enjoyment from it. Even when not taking the picture seriously and poking fun at the ludicrous plot out loud, this was a grind. Nothing awaits those who decide to check out Stay Alive. (On DVD, February 21, 2018)

Money, it is the reason a lot of us get up in the morning, for the meagre opportunity to pay the bills in exchange for gruelling labour. What we wouldn’t do for a chance to grab some security? Some freedom and if 500 miles and five other strangers stood in your way, the risks you would go to secure such stability? In 2001, an oddball mogul created a simple contest, that will send its contestants…

SYNPOSIS. when a girl's co-star is good to her and now she wants it more than everything in between. (smau)
A/N. this chapter is more like world building (it's where i explain what the fuck i'm doing with the YN okay)
The "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series at Disney+ has added an unexpected pick to its growing cast.
The new live-action series is based on the hugely successful novels from author Rick Riordan of the same title. We will be seeing YN LN join the series as Rina Velasco, one of the supporting characters of the show.
LN's Rina Velasco is referred to as "the offspring of The Muses, goddesses of the sciences and the arts." Unlike most other demigods, she is born out of the artistic and scientific output of the muses. When the moral ingenuity of humans meets the divine musings of The Muses. Her character is described as a unique allrounder who becomes a mentor figure to our main cast as they embark on their journey.
This will be LN's first on-screen role of her career. LN's experience mostly lies in Broadway, she is known for playing Kim in the Miss Saigon revival on Broadway. LN was nominated for a Tony in 2022 for the same role. She is repped by Salonga/Chien Entertainment and B817 Agency.
Riordan posted on the Meta app, Threads, about this update to the casting saying: "YN was one of the actors we didn't expect to see a tape of but when we saw it, we couldn't help but fall in love with her. She embodies the spirit of Rina so well and is such a kind spirit, we can't wait for you to fall in love with her too! Welcome to the cast, YN!"
The live-action show is based on Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson book series. It tells the fantastical tale of the titular 12-year-old modern demigod (Scobell), who's just coming to terms with his newfound supernatural powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt. With help from his friends Grover (Simhadri) and Annabeth (Jeffries), Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.
Production on the show is now underway in Vancouver. Riordan and Jon Steinberg are writing the pilot with James Bobin directing. Steinberg and his producing partner Dan Shotz are overseeing the series and serve as executive producers alongside Bobin, Rick Riordan, Rebecca Riordan, Bert Salke, Monica Owusu-Breen, Jim Rowe, Anders Engström, Jet Wilkinson, and Gotham Group's Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, and D.J. Goldberg. 20th Television is the studio. Salke was formerly the president of Touchstone Television and originally put the show into development.

A/N
i truly hope you guys can forgive the horrible editing in the pictures.
the article portion is based on (and has some parts that are directly pulled from) this article from variety !
here's some succint information about rina velasco, the PJO character YN LN plays (and is my childhood OC!)
- rina velasco, filipino, 18 years old (year younger than luke)
- she's an offspring of the muses, not directly a child or daughter, though she may be referred as such
- by her being an offspring of the muses, i mean that she was born in the same way athena's children are born.
- but in rina's case she's more like a weird conglomeration of each muse. her birth is a rare event, but her mothers are honored as minor goddesses so she stayed in the apollo cabin (connection to music)
- rina operates as a guidance figure for the main trio, especially annabeth
- she's also luke's love interest, there's a lot of tragicness and doomed romance stuff with those two
- and for the sake of everyone, we pretend like the weird i love you from the books didn't happen !

IDF SPOKESPERSON, REAR ADMIRAL DANIEL HAGARI:
”This is an urgent call for action. We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to find our hostages”
Full transcript of the video announcement: Hamas just published a video of 23-year-old, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, an American-Israeli boy, who was celebrating with his friends at the Nova Music Festival, when he was violently and brutally attacked and kidnapped by Hamas on October 7.
Hersh has been held by Hamas in Gaza for over 200 days.
133 hostages are still being held by Hamas in Gaza — for over 200 days, in inhumane conditions.
Until Hamas releases our hostages the IDF will continue to pursue Hamas everywhere in Gaza.
This is an urgent call for action. We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to find our hostages.
This psychological terror video
is not only a reminder of what Hamas did on October 7th, it is a reminder of how sick this terror group is, terrorizing the hostages and their families too.
To Hersh’s parents Rachel and Jon: Our hearts are with you.
We will continue doing everything in our power to bring your son Hersh and all our hostages back home.
Your strength continues to inspire us as we fulfill this critical mission.

The themes of choice in TMA is fascinating. People seem to have latched on to what Elias said about choice to the victim blaming extent that Jon did. He didn’t want this but he absolutely chose it? That’s not a fair statement. It’s not. He was given absolutely none of the information needed to even be able to fathom the consequences of his choices. Sometimes things were even stacked against him. An example being destroying the web table. Well, three different people suggested he do that and he didn’t listen. One of the people that suggested it ended up being replaced by the creature somehow tied to the table. What was the natural conclusion meant to be? Do you think you’d do better? I promise you wouldn’t.
I saw something a while ago essentially accusing Jon of giving the other characters nightmares, when the time in which the statements were taken, he didn’t know the implications of it. He didn’t know what would happen. He took statements as was defined by his office job with no understanding that it would have lasting consequences. He didn’t even understand he was compelling people until late into season 3. The nightmares weren’t figured out until after that. For all he knew the reoccurring nightmares were because people were telling him in great detail about terrible things that happened to them. Both sides were supernaturally tied into a contract they didn’t get to read. It’s miserable for both parties. Lest you forget he was forced to work closely with the cop that tried to give him a laryngectomy with a dull pocket knife.
When season 4 comes about he chooses to live. This doesn’t come because he’s afraid of dying. We know this factually based on his actions. He has very little concern in throwing himself into situations that may or may not kill him according to his knowledge at the time. It’s for the same reason he doesn’t attempt to gauge his eyes out without Martin. People he cares about are on the inside. He won’t leave them. He comes back choosing to trust the people around him. This turns out to be a bad move given what Basira is hiding, but it’s a bad move in the same way everyone’s decisions were bad moves. They don’t have enough information about the situation or other people to make good choices. Elias and the Web carefully orchestrated the situation in which every outcome has the opposite effect of what was intended. This is a tragedy. All roads lead to ruin. Choices aren’t choices when you don’t know you’re making them or your only out is to abandon people you care about and cause yourself significant bodily harm if not death. This is a tragedy.
The idea of a choice in the series is a joke. It’s pushing responsibility of the crimes of those up top to the people down on the bottom. It’s petty to argue who is at fault on that level similarly to how policing individuals on disposable straw usage isn’t going to stop corporations from mass polluting the ocean. But it’s easier to yell at the people at the bottom so we do it. Similarly to how half the characters lash out at Jon. He’s an easier target than Elias, especially if your lashing out on your own. But they didn’t know each other well enough. They were only put into a group together reluctantly and by coercion. They weren’t found family. They didn’t bond. They didn’t even figure out how to work together. And that, my friends, is an easy to manipulate situation. This is a tragedy.
Season 5 is a farce of control and power for Jon. The Web gets exactly what the Web wants. It had all the pieces in play for a deranged Rube Goldberg machine. Just pull in all the right places and the pieces come crashing down. Martin was a very important piece, you see. Jon’s morality wasn’t so movable—I do believe that Jon’s decision for the panopticon was a moral decision. It may not align with your morals, but it was a decision based in morality nevertheless. It was a decision that didn’t align with Martin’s belief. The argument wouldn’t have gotten Jon’s morality to move but they didn’t need to do that. They just needed the process to start and for Martin to be up there as everything was collapsing. Jon wouldn’t change his morals but he couldn’t watch Martin die. He famously does not care about what happens to him but does care very much about what happens to Martin. So, the Web got its way. This is a tragedy.
It’s somewhat natural to over analyze all the pieces and think “if someone did this one thing differently, it would have all been different.” I don’t think the characters were given so much allowance in universe to ruin the Web’s stitch. This was a masterpiece built by the Web for the Eye’s consumption. Choice is an ad lib over forgotten lines, not something that can rewrite the script. This is a tragedy. We bought the tickets.

That NY con panel before GO came out was so awkward/retroactively funny (at least how I remember it). The host was really forceful, the audience seemed to mostly care about Hamm lol, DT was ambushed with an introduction "all women want him, all men want to be him" and it looked like he desperately wanted to fuck right off back behind the curtain after that, the conversation didn't really flow, people mostly had questions for Hamm, Neil was Neil and in the background MS and DT were basically singing a tentative "it's guy love, between two guys", which wasn't the audience's primary interest yet at all. How times change.
This is a great excuse for me to rewatch it again because while I do remember the enthusiasm being more muted than it would be today (and I didn’t watch the audience q&a but makes sense for it to be Jon Hamm focused) I remember being struck by how Whoopi Goldberg did a good job moderating/seemed to be into it and they all seemed to be genuinely friends and giggly. Let’s all watch it again here and convene at the end of the day to discuss

What kind of sense of humor do your ships have?
The Mighty Ducks:
Banksway: I headcanon that Adam has the driest sense of humor. Like sarcasm is his second nature. He is probably one of the most sarcastic of all the Ducks. However, no one expects it because he tells jokes very seriously. When they first got to know him, they thought he hated them. He makes these types of jokes because he can be a smartass around his parents. Charlie also has a sarcastic sense of humor. However, unlike Adam, who will wait for the perfect moment to drop a joke, Charlie is constantly sarcastic. It doesn’t hit as hard as Adam, but it is still hilarious.
Connie/Guy: Guy strikes me as someone who enjoys puns and dad jokes. He is sarcastic just like the rest of them. However often he is cheesy more than snarky. He and Jesse joke about everything. Therefore, his sense of humor is ruined. Connie has a kinda mean sense of humor. Observational I think is the proper word. I mean to her friends it is a way to say I love you. However, she will violently insult you. It will be hilarious, and you will feel bad. However, it is also brilliant, and you can’t be truly mad.
Tammy/Fulton: Fulton is the master of improvisational humor. He can see someone and think of at least 10 ways to make them laugh right away. I feel like he’s the kind of person who doesn’t like awkward silences, so he is always cracking jokes. He is fast and always ready. Tammy and him fit perfectly because her sense of humor is witty. She is quicker on her feet than Fulton, which is saying something. Also, she will make a joke and it will take you like 5 minutes to get it, but it is amazing. Goldberg thinks she makes humor too smart but that’s because he is the target of her humor often.
Wudoza: Luis probably has a dirty type of humor. Everything to him can be a sex joke. However, it’s not the gross/creepy type of humor. It is more the out of nowhere dirty humor. I think a good example from my life is my friend joking about Chili’s having an amazing bush. It is also slightly inside joke humor. He and Kenny laugh about things that the others don’t even know. Kenny has observational humor. He doesn’t often make jokes to people because he is small, and people will try to beat his ass. However, around his friends he is brutal. For some reason I feel like he would make a joke like this, “Cole should change his name to cold cause Portman knocked his ass out.”
Batfam:
Jayroy: Jason has he dark sense of humor. He will joke about dying any chance he can. He will make observational jokes about his family. He roasts them on the daily. I can see Roy having dad humor. Like even before Lian he probably had the cheesiest sense of humor. I could also see him having a mix of dad humor and dirty humor around Jason. The jokes are the worst, but Jason will blush anyways.
JonDami: Damian’s sense of humor is roasting his family. He also won’t admit to actually having a clear sense of humor. He is the master of observational humor. To the point where he will stay something completely out of pocket, but he means it seriously. He doesn’t understand why people are laughing, this is serious. Jon had the stupid sense of humor before he met Damian. However, having a best friend like Dami made him much better at sarcasm. However, he’s a boy scout so no one ever expects it.
Timberkon: Conner is technically still like 5 I think he has the immature sense of humor. He and Bernard will laugh at the stupidest things. Tim doesn’t understand why any of it is funny. Like legit he will sit there going “Why are you two laughing people might be dead.” I fully believe Tim and Damian have the same sense of humor. I feel like they also often make jokes no one will understand expect Damian who will refuse to laugh. Bernard is the middle he will go either way. However, it is not to the extremes of either Kon or Tim. Also why is the only one in this ship who doesn’t have a three-letter nickname, I mean not really.
Birdflash: These two share the same sense of humor. It is puns and stupid humor when together. No one thinks it’s funny, but all their jokes have each other dying. Like think the SpongeBob scene where they are laughing about 25. That is Dick and Wally to me.
StephCass: Steph is a sarcastic humor person. She is very good at making a joke that people don’t get till so much later. I could see Cass having a silly sense of humor. Like she will laugh at Wally and Dick’s dad humor. To be honest she just likes to be involved.

Hamas published a propaganda video of Israeli-American dual citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin on Wednesday, marking the first sign of life from the 23-year-old since he was abducted by the terror group on Oct. 7.
In the video, a gaunt-looking Goldberg-Polin identified himself as Israeli and said he had been held captive for “nearly 200 days,” suggesting that the video was taken recently, the Times of Israel noted.
Goldberg-Polin is seen with a buzzed haircut and missing his left arm from below the elbow.
The limb was blown off when Hamas descended on the Supernova music festival in the Negev desert in the early hours of Oct. 7.
Israeli media outlets do not publish the videos, which are considered an act of psychological warfare.
Hersh was at the festival with a friend, and narrowly survived the initial attack before he was caught on video being loaded into a truck with his left arm visibly mangled.
Goldberg-Polin’s parents, Rachel Goldberg and Jon Polin, declined to give interviews immediately after the video was released, their media rep told The Post.
The video of Goldberg-Polin was released just a few days after his family made yet another impassioned plea for his return in honor of the start of Passover.
“All of the symbolic things we do at the Seder will take on a much more profound and deep meaning this year,” Goldberg told reporters ahead of the major holiday.
Though the family planned to participate in a Seder, they were not sure how it would playout, she added.
“If 15 minutes in, we just can’t do it, and we need to cry, then we will cry,” she said.
Goldberg and Polin sat down with The Post earlier in April to mark six months since their son and over 250 others were taken by Hamas during the deadly terror attack.
“At a certain point, we did realize that hope is mandatory, optimism is mandatory,” Goldberg said. “We’re trying to save our son’s life, we’re trying to help save the lives of all of the hostages who are still alive.”.
Before his abduction, Hersh Goldberg-Polin was known for his love of reading, his passion for soccer and music festivals, and “funny, but not clownish” personality.
When asked how the family planned to mark Passover in 2024, Rachel Goldberg insisted that they planned on having their son “home, at our table.”

This week's results were surprisingly average. Okada was the top smashable wrestler, but he wasn't smashable enough to hit the top 10 overall rankings. Jinder Mahal was the least smashable wrestler, but he wasn't so unsmashable as to make the bottom 10 overall. Just...average.
On the subject of Okada, I realize the photo I chose was a little controversial, but he is a WEIRD guy, and I wanted to highlight that. Also supposedly there is a nude photo book of him out there??? I like Okada, but not enough to spend money on a book of naughty pics.
Overall, the trio of AEW luchadores this week had a decent but not terribly enthusiastic showing. Penta was requested, but I haven't queued his poll yet. We'll see how he stacks up!
And now for some of my favorite tags and comments
