In your army days series, what would Jack do if he has to pick between his mission and Mac? (How did they get into that situation?) He’s still a soldier and has to do his duty and yet this is Mac.

Just wanted your thoughts on this :))

I may be heavily influenced by JStar8 as of right now, but Jack would choose Mac. Every time

Definitely more so after Mac initially saved him from that IED he stumbled on, because before that, Jack chose him out of a sense of duty because Mac was his responsibility, and was a dumb kid that didn’t know how the world worked and it served as a kinda teaching moment(?) or something like that

But after that, it was a different sense of duty, like after learning how shit of a childhood Mac had, Jack figured he had to show Mac that there are actually good people in the world

Of course there were horribly difficult decisions, like Mac+Stranger-Jack where Jack had to choose the mission to keep Mac safe,

But like if they were out and like in a big firefight or whatever, and Jack had to make the decision of Get The Bad Guy or Save Mac, it’s Mac. 100% it’s always going to be Mac

Honestly though, Jack doesn’t really ever have to make any big decisions, because if there’s anything where Mac’s involved, he’s going to choose whatever option will keep him safe in the long haul

makeup and sloppy kisses

you and Jack haven't been spending much time together because of your conflicting filming schedules so you have to cherish every minute you get. it's a comfortable night in your apartment and you got the amazing idea to do his makeup.

makeup products are scattered all over the ground while jacks tall figure is slouched against the end of your bed.

"jack please stop squirming so much" you plead in between giggles.

"you're literally stabbing things in my eyeball!!" he half screams.

"not even!! c'mon just a little longer" you respond.

the sounds of fleetwood mac hum in the background of your conversation, the vinyl turning in endless circles. the soft light of your room casting a golden glow on your faces.

"okay hold on I need a better angle" you whisper, moving items around.

you position yourself on his lap to get a closer look at his eyes. you brush slightly past his shoulder to grab a pencil liner. jack examines your face at this newfound closeness.

"yknow I could really get used to this" he says.

"oh shut up" you respond as a blush spreads across your face. you finish his eyeliner but choose to stay in this comfortable position.

a comfortable silence fills the room as you graze different powders across jack's skin. his eyes dance around your face, intently studying every feature.

"i think you're the most angelic person i have ever seen" jack says, barely above a whisper.

you smile and let out a slight laugh. ducking your head so he doesn't see the bright pink flush painting your cheeks.

"hey im serious" he laughs, bringing his hand to hold your cheek.

you stare at him for a moment before he brings his lips to yours. his lips taste like the cherry lip gloss you applied just a few minutes before. lips parting, your foreheads rest against each other's.

"i think you're really pretty too" you whisper.

you take his face in your hands, finally allowing yourself to scan his features. the eyeliner perfectly smudged around his eyes and the light pink tint on his lips.

"i love you" he confesses.

"i love you too" you respond.

jack places yet another kiss on your lips. you bring your arms around his neck, deepening the kiss. he parts once again.

"stop staring so much you dork" you laugh.

"what i cant help it!!" he explains.

he begins kissing your entire face, nose, cheeks, forehead, lips.

"jack!!!" you say completely laughing.

he doesn't respond and keeps peppering your face with kisses.

"you just ruined the perfect piece of art i just created!" you half complain half joke.

"well looks like you'll have to start over" he says stealing one last kiss.

speak now — any headcanons about Matt and music?

i’ve been thinking about this since you first submitted it & doing some research (rewatching DD clips) so let's explore together nonnie

headcannon below the cut

timeless (matt's version)

so we know that matt likes vinyl records, which is one of the very few clues we get about what devil boy does for fun besides argue and bleed, which I think might be a preference passed down from his dad (jack might've been a collector and passed some down to matt as a kid), but I think it also has to do with the listening experience

I myself collect records, and have for several years, and listening to a vinyl vs listening to music on the radio or your phone is a different experience. sometimes the music can get a little distorted when listening on a phone, or there's interference from the radio, but vinyls usually produce a very crisp and clean sound which might work better for matt's sensitive hearing

I personally think he has a pair of noise cancelling headphones that he plugs into his record player sometimes when he wants to be able to listen to the music without any distractions picked up with his other senses (the buzz of electricity in his building, traffic, conversations of his neighbors, etc.)

I also feel like his taste in music changes depending on what he's doing

for example, if he's working on a court case, I feel like he would pick something like classical music or something instrumental so that there's background noise to soothe his already overstimulated mind, but no lyrics or anything to disrupt his train of thought/focus. think music you would hear playing quietly in a local coffee shop

however when he goes to fogwells, I think he definitely chooses music that will keep him amped up, probably some kind of high energy rock or hip hop with heavy bass and beats he might use to time his jabs at the punching bag

as for what his favorite kind of music in, honestly I think it varies

I could see him in the kitchen cooking with a glass of wine, playing something like frank sinatra, etta james, the temptations, sam cooke, etc. something soulful and a little jazzy that makes him feel relaxed, but also move around his kitchen with a pep in his step

something tells me jack was a classic rock guy, that's just the feeling I get from him. I think this is what matt listens to when he wants to feel close to his dad, or maybe like on sundays when he's cleaning and unwinding, trying to get ready for the week. maybe like the eagles, fleetwood mac, pink floyd, journey, led zeppelin, etc.

I think all of the newer music he listens to is definitely influenced primarily by foggy and karen

foggy nelson is a huge 80s guy. he knows EVERY hit from the 80s and will proudly sing them drunkenly at karaoke. given that he and matt lived together, and shared a broom closet at landman and zack together, and are essentially in a civil union for all intents and purposes, Matt knows a lot of 80s hits bc of foggy.

karen on the other hand is a 90s/early 2000s girly. she's definitely the reason matt suddenly realizes one day he knows all the lyrics to "baby one more time" by britney spears and was quietly humming along in his office while foggy was belting it in his. i'd like to think she plays "wannabe" by the spice girls at least once a week in their office and one night after a few drinks taught both of them the dance which she can only get them to perform after several rounds at josie's

I also think frank is a classic rock kinda guy (we know he likes bruce springsteen) and I have this adorable picture in my head of frank coming over to borrow vinyls from matt, and even adding a few of his own to matt's collection

all the grunge in his collection came from jess and no one can convince me otherwise (here's the angsty music I like to brood to, enjoy- jess)

given the fact that matt speaks spanish, i'd like to think that he enjoys reggaeton and maybe even tejano music (I like to think he's a selena fan, but that could be me projecting)

he's a swiftie. foggy and karen are swifties and successfully convereted matt into a swiftie, whether he likes to admit it or not. i said what i said (frank is next to be converted)

now i'm very curious to know what kinda music y'all think matty likes??

Jack and Janet love their son. Their feral, intelligent, Robin-Loving son. They love their baby but they love their dogs too. So when Tim hits the double digits, they sit him and they talk. They give Tim options. Boarding school, a nanny, a housekeeper, or coming with them. Tim chooses the housekeeper. Jack and Janet look. They look and they look. Eventually they find Mrs. Mac, so they hire her. And then just to be safe they hire Slade Wilson to look after their son.

Tim loves his parents and he knows they love him. He also knows they love their digs, and that’s why Tim was given OPTIONS. Tim chose the housekeeper of course and he knows that there’s someone else hired to watch him as often as possible. When Tim becomes Robin he sends pictures, momentos, and screenshots of his conversations with his friends to his parents to laugh at. When Tim starts YJ with his friends, Slade starts showing up. Slade is in co-parenting with Tornado to keep these disaster children in check.

Every time Tim calls his parents answer as soon as possible. Tim email is marked as URGENT, above even the Drake’s company. Anytime the Drake’s are in Gotham Tim drops everything and stays with them.

Getting used to being lost and found

“You really think you’d be able to catch me in just one day?” “You wouldn’t even see me coming.” - Tiberius Kovac dies. Jack doesn’t come home. Mac has a few things to say about that. Set between Seasons 3 and 4 (and AU from there).

When Mac learned that Tiberius Kovac was dead, his first reaction was a sigh of relief. He’d never wholly subscribed to the idea that some people were just better off dead, but in this one particular case, he thought he was justified in making an exception. Every piece of information he’d been able to gather in his partner’s absence had made it abundantly clear: Kovac was the worst of the worst, and there wasn’t a prison on Earth deep and dark enough to entirely snuff out the damage he was capable of wreaking on innocent people.

It definitely had nothing to do with the fact that it meant Jack could come home.

Of course, Kovac being dead didn’t mean that Jack would be home any time soon. Mac hadn’t ever been caught up in such an extended mission, nor one involving quite so many different agencies and governments, but he’d seen enough of the intelligence community to know that debriefs could be a bitch. Given how much time and manpower had gone into the hunt, Mac wouldn’t have been hugely surprised if it took Jack weeks to get through all the meetings and reports sure to be bearing down on him. Expecting him to show up in LA with a smile inside of a month was deeply naïve.

Even when that time passed and no Jack appeared, Mac stayed calm. Coming off any mission was always hard and it was almost standard practice to demand some time to yourself once all was said and done. After spending more than a year on a hunt to the death, Jack would be well within his rights to drop off the grid for a good long while. Mac couldn’t say he’d expected it, exactly – he’d figured Jack would at least make it back to the States before holing up – but it wasn’t a surprise. With everything that had come before it, he refused to choose now of all times to start worrying.

Except then another month passed.

And another.

It was only after Kovac had been dead for precisely one hundred days that Mac finally allowed himself a moment of doubt.

Summary: Loving yourself can be hard for a variety of reasons, and sometimes things aren’t as they seem at first glance.

Set early in the series, and pre-ot3 relationship

Elizabeth MacMillan had to work hard to love herself for who she is.

She knows the world at large does not accept her. Mac had found her way despite it, clawed a path for herself in a world that doesn’t want her, even gained respect by some of her peers…

But she still isn’t sure whether she truly loves herself. Whether, if she could change who she is - truly change, not just act and pretend - she wouldn’t take that option…

It would certainly make life easier, if she could find herself a nice husband and be happy as a housewife.

Her friend Phryne never seems to have such doubts.

Loving herself seems to come easy to Phryne Fisher, much easier than it comes to Mac.

She is vibrant in her clothes and her smile and her entire being, she pulls you in and always seems to know exactly what she is doing.

Where Mac is content to have found a style she isn’t quite so uncomfortable in, Phryne wears any style like it was made for her personally. Where Mac at least doesn’t hate herself anymore for whom she loves, Phryne never cared what society might think about her lovers.

Captain Jack Robinson has similar thoughts about the enigmatic Miss Fisher.

She used to unnerve him, but it didn’t take long until he was caught in her light, in the way she seems to make the entire world love her.

She doesn’t seem to ever doubt herself - in fact, often thinks she can do his job better than him (not that she is wrong, most times).

Phryne does whatever she likes, and instead of second-guessing herself, she expects the world to adapt to her and her eccentricities. He never wants her to change, and thinks she wouldn’t want to, either.

Jack sees Phryne, and he sees a kind of confidence he never had.

Not to say he is lacking confidence entirely, he knows he is good at his job, and he likes to think of himself as a good person… but all of this is only while sticking to what is expected, fitting to the mold of a man in his position, and when he finds himself desiring more, desiring otherwise, he pushes it away.

He isn’t sure he loves every part of himself. Isn’t even certain he knows who he truly could be, if he let himself choose freely.

Phryne is very aware of how the world perceives her.

She knows she isn’t what most would call normal, and she has long made peace with this fact. She had her own demons haunting her, and life can be too short not to live it at the fullest.

Besides, she needs the distractions sometimes, danger and excitement and a string of lovers to forget the dark thoughts of the past.

She isn’t sure whether she is a good person, not like Jack or Elizbeth are. But she is alive, this is her life, and she is damn well living it.

17. “You don’t look so good.”

Thank you for the ask!

Jack kicked the door down and cautiously entered the room, sweeping his gun from left to right as he cleared the space.  It was empty except for a chair in the center occupied by his partner and a bare lightbulb hanging above Mac's head. 

Mac was tied to the chair at his wrists and ankles with rope and duct tape.  He was disheveled with torn, blood-stained clothes.  Jack had to push down his anger when Mac slowly raised his head and showed his bruised face with one eye swollen shut.

"Hey, hoss, long time no see," Jack joked as he put his gun away and pulled out his tactical knife to cut Mac free. 

"J'ck?" Mac mumbled through a busted lip. 

"You know it."  Jack sliced through the bindings around Mac's wrists.  "You don't look so good.  Where you hurt?"

"Be easier to," Mac groaned, "tell you what doesn't hurt."

Jack cursed and cut the ropes from around Mac's ankles.  "Can you move?"

"Mmhmm," Mac nodded, tried to stand, and cried out as he sank back down into the chair.

"What?"  Jack's hands fluttered around Mac's body, unsure of how to help.  "What is it?"

"Left ankle."

"Broken?"

"I don't think so, but it hurts like hell."

He hated to see Mac in pain.  It made every cell in Jack's body angry.  "The Tac team is clearing the floor, and then we'll get medics in here.  Just sit tight."

"No, I don't want to be in here anymore.  Just," he motioned for Jack to lean over and then threw his arm around Jack's neck, "help me up."

Jack put his arm around Mac's waist and gently tugged him to his feet.  Well, foot.  Mac didn't put any weight on his left side, choosing to hop out of the room with Jack as a human crutch. 

They were met halfway down the hall by the medic team, who had thoughtfully brought a collapsible stretcher.  It didn't take long to get Mac settled on the stretcher, and Jack stayed close as they carried him out of the place he'd been held captive for the last twenty-seven hours. 

Mac's hand snaked out from under the blanket the medics had draped over him to grasp Jack's wrist. 

"You're okay, bud," Jack said quietly.  "We're going home."

Aaron tries and fails, to hide his smile at the petulance colouring his girlfriend's tone, the way her bottom lip stuck out a little. A slight pout she’d deny if he brought it up. 

“You sound like Jack when we’re trying to make him do his math homework.” He says, his smile widening even further when Emily narrows her eyes at him, he looks down to the pot she’s standing in front of, the sauce he’d walked her through the steps of making starting to bubble. “Careful, you don’t want it to burn.” 

She groans and looks down, re-starting the stirring she had been doing. “I can do more than just stir, Aaron.” 

He smiles and closes the gap between them, his arms wrapping around her from behind, his lips against her temple. 

“Tell that to your thumb.” He replies, his gaze falling to the bandaid on her left hand, an injury she had somehow acquired whilst chopping the vegetables for dinner. 

He smiles as she mumbles something under her breath, feeling the rumble of it in her chest more than anything else. She fascinated him endlessly, and the almost 12 months they had been a couple had done nothing to change that. The woman could shoot straight whilst running at full speed, but couldn’t use a kitchen knife without hurting herself. 

“It slipped.” 

Aaron looks at the pot intended for the pasta, the water now coming to a boil. “We’re ready for the spaghetti.” 

She reaches for the packet and gets some out, about to snap the dry noodles in half before he stops her, a hand on each of hers. 

“No, baby, what are you doing?” He asks, stopping himself from smiling when she turns to look at him, her confusion clear.

“Breaking it so it fits in the pot.” She says as if it was obvious, her eyebrows raised at him. She sighs, relinquishing her hold on the pasta so he could put it in the pot. “That’s wrong isn’t it.” 

She looks so dejected he immediately wraps his arms around her again, pulling her back into his chest. 

“Dave would probably never speak to you again if he caught you doing that.” He answers, kissing her cheek.

“Well, at least I know a shortcut to a peaceful life if I need it.” She deadpans, laughing when Aaron pokes at her ribs, the spots he knew were ticklish. She sobers slightly, leaning her head back on his shoulder. “I feel so…stupid for not knowing how to do this.” She grumbles. “At this rate, Jack is going to be a better cook than me.” 

That, Aaron thought, was likely to be true. He’d come home from a late meeting recently to find Jack and Emily making boxed Mac and Cheese together, his son clearly leading the charge. 

“Em, sweetheart,” he says, encouraging her to turn in his arms, smiling at her when he sees the grumpy look on her face. He leans down to kiss her, a quick thing stamped against her lips, “you’re good at so many things, excellent even,” he squeezes her hip, holding her closer, “cooking just isn’t one of them.” 

She scrunches her nose at him, and he can’t resist the urge to lean down and kiss the tip of it.

“You shouldn’t have to do it all the time though.” 

He tucks some hair behind her ear, cupping her cheek as he does so. “I don’t mind, Em. At all.”

“Wouldn’t you rather be with someone who…I don’t know, contributes more?” She asks, her gaze avoiding his a little as she asks the question.

“You contribute plenty, sweetheart.” He says, his smile gentle as she looks back at him. “And even if you didn’t, I’d still choose you over anyone else. Every time.”

She bites her lip to stop herself from smiling. “That’s a good answer.”

“I thought so.”

The front door to the apartment opening cuts off any further conversation, Jack calling out both of their names as they hear his school bag hit the ground. They both shout hello back, smiling at each other. Aaron looks at the food and then back at Emily.

“It needs a couple more minutes, are you ok to serve it up whilst Jack changes and I get  more comfortable?” He asks his suit jacket and tie suddenly feeling a little restrictive. 

She rolls her eyes at him. “Yes, I think I can manage that.” 

He kisses her one last time before separating from her, walking out of the kitchen and seeing his son in the hallway. Jack runs up to him still in his soccer uniform, a wide smile on his face. 

“Aunt Jess said hi!” 

“Thanks, Jack,” Aaron replies, ruffling his son's hair, and the boy tries to dodge out of the way. “How was practise?” 

“Good!” He enthuses. “I scored twice! What’s for dinner? It smells good.” 

Aaron smiles at his son's constant search for food or planning for the next meal, something that amused him. It always made him think of when he was small, enough of a fussy eater it had made Haley take him to the doctor, sure that something was wrong. 

“Emily has made spaghetti,” Aaron answers, wildly underselling his own involvement in the making of the meal. He has to suppress his amusement at the way his son’s face falls slightly. 

“Emily cooked?” Jack asks, looking unsure, his gaze going past his father and into the kitchen, the dinner that had smelt good until that moment apparently suddenly not as appealing as it had been a few seconds ago.

“I helped, don’t worry,” Aaron says, winking at his son.

“Hey,” Emily calls out from the kitchen, her disembodied voice making both the Hotchners freeze on the spot, “I can hear you, you know.” 

Aaron looks back at Jack and tilts his head down the hallway towards the bedrooms. “Let's go change before we eat.” 

He takes off his jacket and tie, leaving him in his shirt and suit pants, rolling up the sleeves of his shirt, smiling as he does so before he walks back out towards the kitchen. He sees Emily placing dinner down on the dining table, the plates piled high with the meal they had cooked together. A normal moment he thinks he may have taken for granted in another life, but something he treasures. Their eyes meet as she looks up at him, an eyebrow raised as she looks at his exposed forearms, a known weak spot of hers. 

“Trying to regain some ground after all the comments about my cooking?” She asks, rounding the table to hug him briefly, her arm around his waist. 

“Of course not,” he denies, his lie obvious, as he kisses her back, “I just didn’t want to get any sauce on it.” 

She rolls her eyes at him. “Sure.” 

Jack bounds towards them, the sound of his feet hitting the floor as he runs their first sign he was coming, and they pull apart. Jack wraps his arms around Emily’s waist, a proper hello he hadn’t had the time to give her when he got home. 

“Hi, Emily.”

“Hi, sweetie.” She replies, hugging him back. “We should eat before it gets cold.” 

They sit down, all taking their usual places at the table, and Aaron can’t help but smile as he watches the love of his life interacting with his son. Love threatens to burst out of him as she enthusiastically listens as Jack tells her about school. His gaze drifts to her left hand, his mind on the ring he had in his sock drawer, and he has to stop himself from jumping up and getting it, from proposing to her over spaghetti on a random Tuesday evening. 

He goes to pick up his fork when he finds himself drawn back to her left hand, his brows furrowing as he realises he can see the cut on her thumb, deep enough that he had briefly thought she may have to go to urgent care. 

“Em,” he says, gaining her attention, both her and Jack looking up at him as they pick up their own forks, “where is your bandaid?” 

She looks at her hand, her mouth already open to tell him it was still there, but she stops when she sees just her skin, the bright red line that still has droplets of fresh blood along it. She then looks at her plate of food before she looks at Aaron and Jack’s, her eyes widening. She looks up at Aaron, a slight blush rising to her cheeks.

“Pizza?” She asks, an apologetic look on her face. 

He’s already standing up, heading back towards the kitchen. “I’ll get the menu.”

As soon as the idea strikes I blast out as many words as inspiration blesses me with.

HmmMmmmMmm that's a good question. Probably Mac + (Wilderness + Training + Survival) + Jack. I have spent SO much time reading about ferns, edible native plants, rope bridges, DB Cooper, telling time without a watch, the phases of the moon, and just all kinds of stuff. Not to mention repeatedly rewatching the episode to capture the dialogue and other nuances.

Table + Flashlight + IEDs might be the runner up. I disassembled every flashlight in the house one time when I was trying to figure out how in the heck Mac was going to save himself while trapped in the dark when the only item I'd given him was a dead flashlight.

24. How do you choose whose POV to write in?

Usually whichever character is most impacted by the scene. Sometimes the only character who's in the right position to observe/understand a thing. Once in awhile, I make my own life difficult by trying to ste up a pattern, like in Milkrun + Murdoc + Mercs I structured every chapter with most of it from one POV (usually Mac), and then a little snippet at the end from someone else's POV (alternating characters) to show what the rest of the team was doing.

And there are other characters there the baby face looks like Jason but it's not and he's been around and it's not someone that many people recognize and he's in a different movie series he's always playing this big baby. It's hellraiser of course but it's another horror flick a lot of people know it and he's appeared once In The Texas chainsaw massacre series and there are few others. There are several more characters it's very strange because there's a huge crossovers here massive crossovers out of space stuff and more. And mac daddy is alarmed and sounded the alert and said they're going to get him and he's worried that it's us. But his character shows up on the island and has these markings they match so maybe they're pulling the wool over your eyes

There's a lot of very aggressive women around Jack is one of them wondering what my husband was talking about as soon as I want to talk I don't want to live like s*** and when he chooses to but I don't want to it's ridiculous why do it.
