-you end up staying there long enough for Hank to actually end up getting worried

-but then them mother instincts kicked in after he noticed you two had been gone for a while

-He just starts asking around if anyone saw the two of you

-And happened to stumble in on you guys (poor dude screamed he needed bleach after walking in on you two)

-Lets just say that Hank kept a closer eye on you two after that

The second time

-You two have calmed down since the last incident with Hank walking in on you guys

-But of course you still had your moments with each other

-this time around you weren’t in that much of a public space (what you told yourself)

-just casually behind the Chicken Feed truck while Hank ate his lunch

-yknow, like how normal people do

-You two honestly don't really understand how it even happened

-You wanted a drink from a nearby shop since the drink you wanted wasn't sold at the Chicken Feed

- And Connor simply asked if he could tag along

-Aaand next thing you know you're both behind the Chicken Feed truck, drink long forgotten, with Connor trapped between you and the truck

-Of course, Hank gets worried again since he's a pretty slow eater so he doesn't know how you're still not back after all this time

he swears... that's it. jk jk, I'm just being stupid. anyways, he swears that you both are gonna give him a heart attack someday from how much he worries

-He tries calling you on his phone and gets confused when he hears your ringtone from behind the truck

-Time skip a few minutes later, Connor and you have red ears from Hanks grip and sulking in the car ride to the station after his lecture

-Mostly because he swears the two of you make him worried sick on purpose

The third time

-Ok. this time.

-You didn’t even try to hide it

-Like no joke, just decided to make out right there and then

-On Hanks couch.

-knowing he was about to be back in a little bit

-but heyyyy you both could’ve cared less in that moment

-A few hours earlier, you were after a suspect and one thing lead to another so all of a sudden, you were being held hostage

-So this making out was a bit justified since you almost died thinking that you were never gonna see Connor again

-And he was just as scared

-Soo both of ya just wanted to hold each other for a bit

-That’s probably why when Hank got back from doing whatever Hank does, he bit his tongue (literally) to stop a snippy remark from falling out

-He was just happy you were alive and you two were finding comfort in each other

-Albeit, a little grossed out at your show of affection

-He just cursed under his breath and went to go take a nap

Hell yeah i got some recs!! Most of mine are going to be more Hank and Connor or Reed900 centric, so keep that in mind.

From it's Own Wreck by Jivvin is my current favorite! It's a ghost au based on the film Just Like Heaven (2005) and it's full of gorgeous writing and has lots of great moments in it. I can't recommend it enough. It is incomplete, but the author regularly updates and it's a few chapters away from being finished.

Deviating and Solving Crime with 100% Human Detective Connor by CaptainKenway. Exactly what it says. You're solving crime with a 100% human detective, nothing else. Nothing suspicious about him. 0_0 It has some good angst and funny moments, and i really enjoyed reading it.

Detroit 07 by Rhinozilla is INCREDIBLE! It's a 38 part series (i know, im stilling working through it) and it's got so much angst, found family, comfort, crack shenanigans, and just as much plot as there is silly oneshots. It's got some OCs in it that are amazing and fit so well into the story, and it does deviate a little bit from the norm (different name for Nines for example, and no reed900) but it's still really good. Since there are so many parts to it and two of the parts are over 400k each, here are some of the smaller oneshots that can be read easily by themselves:

Color Wheel: Connor sustains minor damage to the hardware controlling his appearance. Everybody in the bullpen is united with one singular mission: do not let Connor know that his hair keeps changing colors.

The Breathing Graveyard: The DPD sends Connor to talk down a volatile deviant that's holed up in a trailer near the android scrapyard. It doesn't go the way any of them expect.

Bubbles: Connor gets stuck watching a lost little girl while they wait for her parents to come pick her up at the station.

And then i'd recommend Chapter 51 of Camaraderie if you're up for a wholesome father-son moment.

Through Your Veins by AceEmerson: Nines gets hurt and Gavin takes him back to his apartment to patch them up. There is also an android cat, first kiss, and TENSION

Secret by sv962: Role-reversal Reed900, first kiss. Tis very good. Semi-short at less than 5k and you want a good little role reversal, i recommend it.

The unexpected benefits of having a therapist terminator by texs_sins: Undeviated Nines decides to become Gavin's therapist to help improve their work partnership. 'Surely exposing himself to human emotions won't make a difference, after all nothing has ever made him deviate, right?' it's a fantastic fic and i love their take on Machine Nines and Deviated Nines. (fair warning because it's not listed in the tags, there's a little bit of smut in the last chapter, but easily skippable if you aren't up for it)

Beautifully Unique and Strange by cliffhanging: autistic Connor oneshot because we need more autistic Connor fics

Only Skin Deep by the AsexualofSpades: pre-relationship Reed900, where Nines tries to hide as much of his androidness in response to his anti-android partner five times and the one time he doesn't. It has a nice follow up fic too and i recommend it!

He had been so ready to see you again. Even in the presence of his beloved friend Sumo, he felt as if something was missing.

He knew that it would be difficult when you decided that you’d be going to college to gain a better degree.

He knew it, and yet...

Not having your around was far more draining than he’d ever thought it would be.

Sure, he was fine, for the most part. He worked with Hank at the DPD, He’d video chat with you as much as he possibly could with both of your busy schedules, and he devoted much of his free time to talk with you, discussing your day, your life, so many hours away.

It certainly was challenging, and he held himself well, most of the time, but sometimes he just felt so trapped, like the only thing that could've made his day bright was the one thing he couldn't be around.

None of that mattered today because today, you'd be together again. If your college wasn't so far away, he’d have visited you every weekend, if not several times a week, but again, you were several states away, and the both of you were incredibly busy.

“Don’t short circuit, kid.” Hank had said gruffly as Connor bustled around the house, packing a backpack.

After saying goodbye to his little family, Connor was off to the airport.

He quite liked being on planes, sitting next to the window.

He’d watch the clouds pass by. Normally, you’d be there with him, but he was still excited being there on his own, since he was on his way to see you.

His smartphone buzzed under his palm.

Connor smiled down at the screen, feeling his artificial heart pump in his chest. He lifted his thumbs to type a response.

Receiving such happy messages from you made him all the more anxious to arrive at your college. With every second that passed in that plane, he become more and more ready to see you again.

You stood in your dorm, growing at your thumb nail in anticipation of Connor’s arrival.

You hadn’t told him about it, but things were rough.

You were taking a debate class just as a fun activity to add to your schedule, and while debating android related topics, you had mentioned that your boyfriend is an android.

You didn’t see the problem with that. It was the truth, and you weren’t aware that it was something you had to hide. The torment that came after was alarming, to say the least.

You wouldn’t dare tell Connor about it. You knew he’d be upset, guilty that he wasn’t there with you.

He didn’t need to know, and it would hurt him in he did, so he wasn’t going to know.

You didn’t regret talking about your relationship with Connor. The fact that he was an android was not something deterred you. You loved him no more or less than you would if he was human and he loved you in the same way.

Opening the front door for him, the five months of loneliness suddenly melted away. As you hugged him, you forgot about the many days you’d spent in a cold bed alone.

“C-Connor,” You stammered, tapping his back as he squeezed you with what seemed like all of the strength in his body.

“Sorry,” He eased up, loosening his grip slightly, “I overdid it a little bit,” He sighed, closing his eyes as you hugged him back, “I missed you...” Connor admitted. “I had this dull feeling the whole time, and I couldn’t figure out what it was.”

You smiled into his shoulder, finding comfort in the familiar noise of his heart beat and the whirring of machinery within him.

“I recognize that I’m just an android cop,” He muttered, blinking his eyes open, “but... Would it be ostentatious to wonder if you missed me too?”

“Oh, Connor,” You pulled back to look at him, “don’t be so humble...” You trailed your fingertips up to his face, “Of course, I missed you. I missed you every single day. How could I not?”

Connor smiled at the feeling of your kiss on his cheek, something he hadn’t been able to experience in a long five months.

“Come, sit down,” You smiled, pulling him in by the sleeve. You closed the door behind him.

The faint blue tint on Connor’s face was unwavering. His eyes were bright and full of life. He sat on the edge of your bed and looked around.

A garbage can full of paper, a picture of him on your desk from your date to the aquarium, many textbooks piled up on a shelf.

You sat down next to him, reaching experimentally for the hand resting on his thigh. “It’s so lonely without you.”

“I’m right here,” He said, leaning into your touch. Connor glanced at the bed on the other side of the room, “Is that where your roommate sleeps?”

“Yeah,” You smiled, “she’s a couple of rooms down the hall right now, I’ll go get her for you.”

Connor nodded, happy that you were willing to share this part of your life with him.

You stood up, “I’ll be right back, I swear. I don't wanna spend any more time away from you than I have to.”

“Don’t worry, ” He smiled, “I’ll look around until you get back.”

As you slipped out the door, Connor stood up and looked at the photo of him that sat on your desk.

It was taken without his knowledge while he was staring at the fish in one of the bigger tanks I'm the aquarium, eyes full of wonder. The blue shades in the water reflected onto his face.

He wished he had a similar secret photo of you, although he could just replay his memories anytime he liked and see you in those moments again.

Your laptop sat in the middle of your desk, plugged into the wall. You did many of your school assignments on it. Maybe Connor could help you out with some work while he was here.

There was a calendar on your wall. Today’s date was circled with red marker. Within the circle, it said, “Connor arrives <3”.

A week from now you had jotted down that you’d have a test. A few days ago, you had written that you had to turn in an exam.

Connor’s head turned at the sound of something being jammed under the door.

It was a mint green piece of paper, about the size of something torn from a notepad.

He stood up and walked over to the door, wondering if you had slipped something under it for him.

When he picked up the piece of paper, his smile immediately dropped.

“Such a slut that you’re getting off with an android. You should be ashamed, y/n.”

Connor blinked, re-reading those two sentences over and over again.

How could someone say something like this to you?

He leaped to his feet and opened the door, eager to tell whoever put that note there that they had the wrong idea.

Looking out into the hallway, no one was there. Connor furrowed his eyebrows, LED a prominent yellow color.

He shut the door and turned to the small garbage can, realizing that the piece of paper he was holding was the exact same color as the paper in the bin.

He kneeled in front of the garbage can, pulling out one of the pieces of paper. It felt strange to rifle through your trash, but curiosity overtook him, and he found that he had to discern what was happening.

Unfolding the piece of paper, his emotions worsened.

“Android loving whore”

He unfolded another one.

“Do you make out with refrigerators too?”

And another.

“Get a real boyfriend already, freak. So lonely that you’re dating a machine.”

And another...

“Try dating someone who’s capable of loving you back, not that anyone would love you.”

Sooner or later, Connor was sitting on the floor, surrounded by wrinkled sheets of green paper.

It’s not true... They don’t understand, Connor tried to remind himself. They didn't really know you or him. Even so, he felt himself become upset.

He kept his head down, starting at one of the pieces of paper with a blaring Red LED as you came back in.

“Hey, so apparently my room mate left for class. Do you maybe wa- Oh.” You stopped talking, looking at him. “Shit, Connor. Listen, I wrote those.”

“No, you didn't.” He said, furrowing his eyebrows. “This is not your handwriting. Someone wrote these to you.”

“Hey, ” You sat next to him, reaching out to touch his arm, “It’s alright.”

“It’s not alright, ” He shook his head, becoming more obviously upset, “why didn't you tell me? Why are they saying these things to you?”

You sighed, pulling away, “A bunch of people found out about us, or, more specifically, that you’re an android.”

“So?”

“So they like to make fun of me for it because they're assholes.” You explained, “usually, they just stick those dumb notes under my door. Sometimes they'll make me the brunt of a joke in public, but... It's usually the notes.”

Connor frowned, “Why is it funny that you date me?”

You felt your heart sink, “No, ” you reached out to hold his hand, which was still gripping one of of the crinkled pieces of paper, “no, it's not funny at all. That’s what I’m saying, Con... They think it’s funny because they're jerks who don't like androids.”

He dropped the paper, looking down, “They’re bullying you because of me...”

“Connor, ” you mumbled. What were you supposed to say? It was technically true, but you hadn't expected him to take it so personally.

“Why didn't you tell me? You should have told me, ” He tilted his head, feeling a heaviness in his chest.

“I didn’t want it to upset you, ” You explained, “I didn't want you to worry. I should've said something.”

“Don't tell anyone that I’m an android anymore, ” He looked up at you, “If it's embarrassing or if it makes you get made fun of, I don’t want that. It’s my fault.”

“Connor, no, ” You squeezed his hand, “I’m not going to hide who you are in order to stop people from making jokes about me. I’m not ashamed of you.”

“But I’m an android, ” He said, “People will bully you if you tell the truth.” He couldn't stand the thought of you being mistreated, especially when it was because you were with him.

“That’s alright.” You said, “I’d rather be proud to be with you and have them bully me than hide you away and not be bullied.”

He relaxed slightly, letting you scooch over to him until you were leaning in, against his shoulder, “I don't like the things they say about you.” He whispered as you rested in the crook of his neck, “They’re not true.”

“I know, ” You mumbled, “but it’s not your fault, and there's no one I’d rather date than you, android or otherwise.”

Connor just smiled.

Some notes:

Because Phil and Foolish know eachother in Canon and have done for a while in this au they're close friends. In an attempt to cope with the death of wilbur (who he obviously knew personally in this au bc him and Phil are mates) he makes a grown up version of wilbur as a gift for Unspecified Old Man who he is also friends with, but makes him a unique android so he doesn't risk Phil finding out and upsetting him

There is no romantic subplots whatsoever (especially between Nikki and Wilbur)

I think instead of just Dream Ranboo has 2 "guides" that act as his moral and practical guidance respectfully. The practical one that focuses mostly on reaching the intended goal is Dream, and the other is Tubbo who is also chloe

Adding on to that, this is another point of conflict when Ranboo has to choose whether or not to shoot a Tubbo android because on one hand he's attached to the tubbo in his head and on the other this tubbo is not his tubbo so why should he care if he lives or not

Phil and Wilbur do meet eventually (more on that further down), but him and Foolish have an interesting conversation when he sees Wilbur on tv

Another point of conflict with ranboo because the Dream part of him says he should kill Wilbur to complete his mission, but the Tubbo says its morally not right because Wilbur is fighting a good cause, and his own independent thoughts are telling him that, to some degree, Wilbur is still Phil's son and he cares about Phil

The polar bear is steve

One of the Tubbo models, at some point, run away from Foolish and join the android revolution to kind of mirror Tubbo's role in the l'manburg revolution

No im not a Wilbur apologist but I do like Wilbur's character pre pogtopia so that's kind of what he's like here

When Ranboo eventually fucks off to join the Revolution Phil decides to go and look for him and comes face to face with Wilbur (idk how that goes yet I just know it happens)

I have a bit trauma surrounding alcohol so it won't be involved in Phil's character whatsoever, but he is more depressed and cynical that Canon Phil

Not much changes with Puffy's story from Kara's except she becomes friends with Nikki when they go to Jericho/Pogtopia and Tommy follows Wilbur around like a lost puppy while giving his parents a heart attack

Theres not much sleepy bois dynamic here tbh, just a bit of Tommy and Wilbur being brothers and some very slight Techno and Phil being best mates, but outside of that there nothing

Puffy is a re-purposed navy android who remembers very little from her time at sea except sea shanties she sing to get tommy to sleep

Tommy isn't an android in this purely because I hated that bit of Alice being an android (still love her though)

Sam is a re-purposed army android that was was used mainly as a sort of explosive specialist, but he also remembers very little

Dream hides a fair amount of good memories from ranboo in an attempt to keep him on track to finishing the mission

Tubbo and Dream end up fighting in Ranboo's head (love badass fights) and eventually, Dream wins

This is the point where Ranboo becomes deviant and meets the Tubbo than ran away from kamski, and they end up being friends despite tubbo having no memories with Ranboo

In the end the androids win obviously, Wilbur says his goodbyes to Unspecified Old Man, Ranboo and Tubbo adopt a broken child android and call him Micheal, Puffy and Sam continue to raise tommy and Phil gets to form a relationship with someone who's not quite his son but not the first tall, lanky android he's unofficially adopted so it's all good

Headcanons for Human AU Anderson siblings

I havent really thought about that au in a while, but guess I’ll do now. 

Connor and Markus, after Connor gets his dumb head out of his ass, have a really stable relationship. There’s some talk of marriage even, but they are not rushing: Connor is still settling and getting his life back together and Markus’ musical career is on the rise too: he gets asked to play at more and more events and some major studios contacted him for soundtracks too.

So, it’s very out of the left field, when, one day, Markus announces that he’s quitting playing the piano and applying to med school instead. Sure, he has some basic training (which he got after Carl was injured ) but, otherwise, was never interested. Carl, of course, sees through his son right away and knows where this all coming from. But, Connor, of course, doesn’t. 

They have their first major shouting match because of that: Connor insists that he’s fine with Markus having to travel a lot and Markus should have his own life and doesn’t have to babysit Connor 24/7. Markus tries his best to explain that, he just doesn’t want to be away from his boyfriend for long, but that doesn’t fly. Then he has to cave and admit that he’s doing it because he wants to know more and maybe find some research that would help Connor walk again.

Now, if he thought Connor would be happy or would understand, boy was he wrong: Connor is fuckin furious with him: How dare he suggest Connor needs fixing? He yells at Markus that he’s not a charity project or an injured pet and Markus can fuck right off with his greater good and shove his intentions up his ass. Then just ghosts him for a while. A long while. 

Markus doesn’t see where it all went so wrong: he just wanted to help, that’s all! How could that be bad? Then Carl sits him down and explains that patronizing and playing the savior is not a healthy way into a relationship and he should apologize to Connor. 

Connor, meanwhile, is havin a major identity crisis as well, because, in his POV, Markus all but confirmed that as he is, isn’t good enough and Markus only will like him and stay with him if he’s ‘normal.’ Hank understands where he’s coming from and even though he’s sure Markus didn’t mean it like that at all, he still thinks it was a wrong move. He tried his best to talk Connor into answering Markus’ calls or meeting him, but Connor absolutely refuses. So it’s up to him and Carl to somehow get the two idiots back together again.

Well, then and the Anderson Disaster Siblings, Chris and Richard, who also have couple plans of their own.

Blackfire: I have a sister complex and that boy is hot. But actually I was probably one of the most interesting characters in the show and had a genuinely complex story arc (aside from the love story which felt stunted and out of nowhere).

Jason: Finally made it to the RedX story line. Do people still hate me? Yah. Did I try to make things better? Yah. Did it work? Kinda. Do I feel better? Nah. But hey at least Dick doesn’t treat me like dirt anymore.

I just finished DBH and Im seriously so in love with it! But when I came on Tumblr, all I could find is all this content around Gavin, and Im just so confused, because he seemed like such a jerk in the game. Why are people so into Gavin? Did I miss something?

Hi there!

First off, allow me to welcome you to the fandom!

In regards to Gavin: you literally did not miss anything; he is absolutely a one dimensional jerk in game!

Its important we make a distinction here between fanon Gavin and canon Gavin. You’ll find the fandom is incredibly divided - a lot of people adore him, a lot of people hate him. The reason for disliking him is understandable, of course - there’s a slew of incredible and well rounded characters in dbh (North, Luther, Kara…) that are swept under the rug in favour of a veritable avalanche of content for rat man reed. He has 14 minutes of screen time in which literally all he does is antagonize and threaten the player. But people have to understand, when someone says they love Gavin, they mean fanon Gavin. I don’t think theres a single person that is actually a canon Gavin stan. 

Keeping that in mind, you also have to take into account the drop off - at this point, the only people still left/creating content in the fandom are generally the ones that are balls deep and clinging to the headcanons, au’s, etc. that they’ve built with friends. This applies heavily to Gavin for reasons discussed below. Additionally, the algorithms for sites like tumblr and instagram won’t recommend old posts; old posts don’t show up in tags. Artists with a lot of clout that have since moved on from the fandom’s work have basically disappeared into the void (rebelflet, for example). So it may seem like there’s only content of Gavin / Gavin ships, but in reality there’s a ton of jericrew and Kara crew out there from when the fandom was still new / bigger - you just have to know where to look.

So… why do people like Gavin… I mean, it helps that canonically he has beefy tiddies, a cool bad boy jacket, and a pretty face at certain angles.

That being said, I think one of the biggest reasons Gavin (and RK900, by extension) are so popular is that they aren’t well rounded, fleshed out characters. Because we don’t really know anything about them and they have minimal screen time, they’re easy to project on or to add onto, and no one can tell you that you’re wrong because there’s no evidence against it. It’s almost like a universally shared OC that the fandom has developed together. Since they have no canon backstory, and in rk900’s case, no canon personality, it allows for a lot of creative freedom and the ability to explore character interactions, foils, and growth within the dbh universe. The growth aspect, I think, in conjunction with the projection aspect, is key point for the popularity. It tends to be fairly formulaic. Take the canonical asshole Gavin, stick him with an android - whether its RK900 as his partner or Connor as a coworker. Have him come to care for the RK model, and deal with his own insecurities (and usually a traumatic past, the flavor of which might depend on the creator’s own life struggles). Repent, redeem, grow. This redemption arc is the same exact vein of growth and change that makes Hank and Connor such an appealing partnership for players as well - only, in Gavin’s case, it allows for complete freedom in how to get from point a to point b. People like a character they can relate to - and when you can smack your own possible trauma (being an illegitimate child, having an abusive lover, abusive parents, abandonment fears, body insecurity, whatever it may be) on a character because they’re a blank slate, you relate to them and vent through them. Even little “silly” projections or projections that aren’t necessarily traumatic can make someone love a character even more - for example, “Gavin loves Hello Kitty,” “Gavin can’t handle spicy food,” “Gavin is Latino.” Even when the creator isn’t projecting, adding these kinds of headcanons make him a fleshed out, three dimensional character that people can relate to or empathize with, especially when giving his actions an explanation besides just fear of losing his job.

I came into the dbh fandom a little late; by the time I knew what it was, the hype had died down and reed900 was already a firmly cemented, heavily present part of the content. Given that, I’m not sure what its exact origins were, or if it seemingly popped up overnight. It could have been crack. My best guess is that people saw the positive change between Hank and Connor, and thought, “Hey, wouldn’t it be rad if we stuck the other Connor with the other dysfunctional DPD bastard?” . I admit, it makes a nice parallel, which may be part of the appeal in additional to the previous reasons. Speaking of those kinds of interpersonal relationships, there’s also a popular headcanon (that’s been mentioned/liked by d*vid c*ge himself) that Kamski and Gavin are siblings/half siblings/cousins. This stems from the fact that Kamski and Gavin are both mo-capped/voiced by the same actor. By taking this headcanon into account, it adds depth to Gavin’s hatred of androids and allows for interesting backstory exploration, growth, and reconciliation.

Another reason is the enemies-to-lovers trope. For a lot of people that trope really jimmies their neutrons, and what could be better than an android hater and an android to fit that cliche? Once again, analogous to hankcon. The angst potential is also incredible when you take convin or hankvin into account instead of reed900 - reading into Hank and Gavin’s interactions it would seem there’s a tumultuous past between them. And in Connor’s case, Gavin can actually kill him or he can KO Gavin, which allows for a good deal of enemies-to-lovers and angsty regret material. Besides, a lot of people are really into hate s*x.

That…. makes a good segway. I may as well mention the elephant in the room for Gavin’s popularity. There’s a culture of fetishizing abuse in fandoms and Gavin is a prime target for this because “”he’s asking for it.”” It’s also easy to make one character a psychopath when they don’t even have a canon personality. This shows up a lot, whether because of writers treating it as a kink in fanfic or artists using it as a gag because its “funny”. I… won’t really go into detail on this, but it is a phenomenon that adds to the slew of Gavin content. This is another reason for why a lot of people hate Gavin / hate reed900. I started out feeling this way as well. Their perception of it is coloured by the abusive stuff or the mishandled stuff that seems to be prominent. I just have to say that this blog is a safe, sane, and consensual zone.

Sorry, that was a really long breakdown but I hope that gives some insight into the Gavin phenomenon. Last point. He winks like a dumbass. How can you not love that face.

• it was a pretty strange series of events, really, that lead to adopting a cute little mechanical bird • the main one was that he found it on a road’s corner, ‘wounded’, and didn’t have the ‘heart’ in him to ignore such pitiful thing and its cries for help, because, certainly he hadn’t been denied ‘help’ either when he was in a similar situation • he decided, of course, that it was his ‘mission’ to repair it • and he put the utmost care in the process • because of this reason, well, he naïvely & humanly thought that the tiny creature would have been somewhat grateful to him, maybe worshipping his figure if not as a god but as a caretaker • probably because that’s what happened to him but • but his expectations are surely not met when the chirping friend behave as.... an android • in all honesty it’s a bit discouraging • but he’s not given the opportunity to explore this worry as his ‘new’ ‘emotions’ takes most of his thinking hardware • “I’m not jealous at all, it’s just that he follows you everywhere! huh! i don’t know, anon. like i’ve said before, I don’t reeeeally see a strong ship for Connor among the different canon characters - he’s sort of concerned with loving himself at the moment, & growing that way. I WILL say that I just don’t think I can ship Convin (I would like to see them become friends, but there’s not much else there for me), and while I don’t mind HankCon it’s not really for me. I thought the other day the one I could most see was RK1K! But that’s difficult as well because while I could see how Markus might be that for Connor, it’s more difficult to see what Connor brings to the table for Markus in terms of a romantic relationship.   Further musings about North & Markus vs RK1K under the cut, as well as dotpoints on why RK1K could work, theoretically, maybe. 

Norkus works because North brings a perspective that Markus learns from and grows from, while also quietly supporting him as a person (not as ‘the deviant leader’, as a person) - and Markus offers North a baselevel, bare, raw respect and admiration that builds her up and lets her centre herself. I think that’s something that’s really nice for both of them. Connor could bring some of those same things (supporting Markus as a person, rather than the ‘idol’ that many Androids make him out to be - a willingness to challenge him), but he doesn’t have the same .... ease of concentration on being alive. North makes sure she is enjoying herself when she has an opportunity to, while Connor is still occasionally caught off guard by his own happiness (which Markus might find endearing, but not as vibrantly as North’s consistent consternation on what she deserves).  That being said, things that make me think RK1K might work: 

Connor and Markus sharing an interest in philosophy (Connor asks him for book recs because philosophy makes sense of things he’s dealing with) and a knack for observation, both of people and of the world 

Connor being whole & real and people think he is disconnected or unengaged, but he and Markus can stay up for hours speaking about moral philosophy and the state of the reconciliation efforts in reference to historical uprisings and social and economic policies and problems - so long as Markus has the patience (Markus always has the patience) to let Connor find the Exact Words he wants to use to speak 

as a sidenote, connor having opinions about socioeconomic policies and historical uprisings because they were essential as a part of his programming in understanding the deviant movement; the significance and emphasis of healing to take and use that knowledge & education to 'protect and serve’ his community, because he is a police android and he wants to act like one 

you can’t tell me connor, who does nothing to argue with markus’ planned peaceful protest, and who immediately volunteers additional, practical assistance and back-up, and who is a trained machine primed to know thy enemy, doesn’t have some idea about what revolutions have sociopolitically looked like in the past 

RK1K sharing the knowledge of what being a trope (”Deviant Hunter/Deviant Leader”) is, and what that sort of expectation does as it separates from what they (the real people) actually are 

Enemies turned lovers 

The marked and evident ability in each of them to extend forgiveness to each other - it’s worth noting that Connor ‘forgave’ Markus for fighting for his people, which in his upbringing was the greatest sin, but their recognition of a shared ‘humanity’ as it were, in each other. their ability and willingness to reach across what should have been a canyon to bridge that distance and reach a mutual understanding 

‘You did it, Markus.’ / ‘We did it.’ - the mutual respect

the love of their humans. carl and hank would get on so well don’t @ me 

markus taking a breath because connor reminds him he needs to breathe, sometimes 

connor taking a breath because markus makes him forget he isn’t allowed to, sometimes 

im sure there are other things but hey, those are the reasons i think rk1k might work. i am still not sure i ship connor with anyone but those are my reasons for thinking he fits even a little with markus. thank you for listening

First of all, Connor would love the auburn hair, just saying. Also, like you, Connor isn’t very physically or verbally affectionate in public, simply because he’s a more private person. He’s more affectionate, psychically and verbally, when the two of you are at home or just with a few close, trusted friends. He’s more than willing to indulge you in cuddling and hand holding. At first, he was overbearingly gentle and slow with you, but he’s gotten more relaxed over time. He loves that you’re quick witted because you always keep him on his toes and you’re one of the few people who can sass Hank and live to tell the tale. He loves that you’re always trying to make people laugh, which is something he needs a lot of. Also... whenever Gavin is being a brat, it usually only takes a few sharp words from you to promptly shut him up, and Connor simply adores you for that.

Ngl, since you have a husky, that’s probably how you and Connor first started talking because he was curious about the different breeds. Even later in your relationship though, he loves all your animals and is more than willing to help you take care of them. He’s always so cute when he’s playing with them because he’s so gentle and mimics exactly what you do to make sure he’s doing it right. Also, your interest in psychology, genetics (including in robotics) and engineering is perfect for Connor. You can understand him a lot better than others and help him navigate his emotions when he’s overwhelmed. He’s thankful and has no idea how he’d manage without you, so he tries to be extra supportive of you in return. He’ll take you on nice walks for photography and even let you use him as model if you want (of course, who doesn’t want to take picture of him) and although he can’t really eat, he’d be more than willing to try baking with you. Tbh, I don’t think Hank really showed that he was super angry in that chapter in general. I would’ve zoned him more towards being like... exasperated and disappointed. We’ve seen Hank be genuinely angry with Connor, we’ve seen him shake Connor pretty violently, we’ve seen him yell, we’ve seen him swear at Connor, especially in the early days when Hank basically abducted Connor and brought him back to his place and kept him there largely as a hostage.

And in that early period, you can see what like...Hank being angry looked like.

With the punishment chapter, I think Hank was honestly feeling frustrated and disappointed. Connor was, after all, disrespecting him and treating Hank as an object to fulfil Connor’s desires. That’s a very dehumanising thing to go through, and that’s not a nice thing to do to anyone, let alone androids, who have been dehumanised from the beginning. So I think there was an element of ‘you have disrespected me’ which was very, very real for Hank, which was why he delivered such a pointed lecture when he had the opportunity to.

That being said, it’s never a good idea for a Dom to punish a sub when they’re angry, even if the initial event that triggers the punishment did make them angry. That’s like, basic Dom 101. Even if Hank had been like, so angry he wanted to yell and scream, that’s the worst (and most destructive time) to deliver any type of punishment. It’s more normal irl for Doms to walk away until they can be calm and compassionate, and then choose to deliver the punishment. I’m not sure how many people are familiar with that, but tying up real anger with a BDSM punishment (that is delivered seriously, and not in a sense of play) veers pretty close to abusive behaviour, because it’s literally ‘I am hitting you because I am angry at you’  and that’s....shitty.

Domestic discipline is meant to come from the position of ‘I am hitting you to correct a behaviour that we’ve both agreed that you want corrected, and you consented to this, and so my responsibility is to ensure I do this from a place of love (and at most, disappointment) and check in with you afterwards.’

But anyway, this is fanfiction land, and I’m not interested in writing kosher BDSM a lot of the time anyway.

Just because Hank could see something coming from a mile off, doesn’t mean he’s not still upset when it happens. He gave Connor a lot of chances to stop his behaviour, and honestly, by Connor’s standards, that was a really brutal punishment and very aversive. But I think the largest part of the ‘punishment’ was that he ended domestic discipline as a lifestyle choice between them. And Connor took that really seriously, he reacted like Hank had announced the relationship was over, and it’s one of the reasons why his first serious question when he could talk again was: ‘Are you going to leave me?’

Imho, in real life, Doms are just people. It’s my personal experience that some Doms are very emotionally intelligent, and others aren’t. I used to chat with one over coffee (we’d discuss different tools we both liked to use, largely, re: corporal), and imho, I’d say he had slightly more than average emotional intelligence, but not because he was a Dom, but because he had the kind of personality that wanted a deeper and more engaged kind of experience with people across all spectrums.

It’s the same with submissives, and tops, and bottoms. It’s a spectrum. A lot of Doms aren’t actually interested in domestic discipline or serious punishment arrangements, because everyone really has very personal reasons for liking what they like. You find some very very emotionally unintelligent Doms out there, and sometimes honestly that’s great if you’re just looking for someone who will flog you for a temporary scene, who has a great handle on the physicality of a scene without wanting to complicate it with emotional matters.

But I am not writing real life, I am writing a fantasy, and therefore, I can write my Doms as being as perceptive as I want them to be. Like, I want to be very clear that you asking me if Doms are more emotionally intelligent based on my writing is confusing in the sense that - I’m writing fiction! You can go onto Fetlife and in a heartbeat realise just how very stupid every ‘type’ of player in the scene can be. Please, please don’t base real life interpretations of BDSM off what I’m writing, and if you feel like you can’t tell the difference, I recommend you stop reading my stuff and do some research into some of the real people involved in it. Because if anyone goes in expecting like, these hugely perceptive, emotionally intelligent, ‘know everything’ type Doms, they’re going to get themselves (and the Dom) hurt.

Most writers couldn’t even give you an answer on what ‘real life Doms’ are like, because many people who write BDSM haven’t experienced it. I’m in a position where I can give you an answer, which really is they’re just people and while you’re more likely to find good communicators in polyamory and BDSM you’re also going to find predators and players like anywhere.

Additionally, I don’t consider Hank and Connor have a super healthy relationship anyway, no matter how much emotional intelligence one of them has. I use the tag Unhealthy Relationships for a reason.

Ugh, sorry, this ask has a few different components and one of them worries me a bit, because like, Doms in fiction vs. Doms in real life is...is never realistic. It’s the same with subs really. Even if my stuff is a little more realistic, it’s still fiction, I’m still writing a wish fulfillment fantasy where Connor is the POV character and we never see into Hank’s mind. And finally, I would actually say that Hank can be really emotionally unintelligent with Connor, and he’s only gotten better since learning more about him re: his father / Zlatko. He started off in a very stupid and harmful place, even once he knew more about Connor.
