Some doodles of the Ninja, as well as some of my Chad Headcanons™ on the Ninja Team and what characteristics they retain after turning into something non-human:
Zane and Pixal: well. They're Nindroids. They've got cool metallic platings and armour. On a bad day they might quite literally glitch and spark. On a good day they'll recite random facts due to having access to the Internet.
Cole: He still has that scar after travelling through the Rift of Return; it often flickers or just starts ""smoking"" whenever he's stressed or anxious, and to calm himself down he listens to the songs his parents danced to.
Lloyd: He's part oni and dragon so of course he's going to have characteristics from both. Horns from the oni, pointed ears from the dragons, and that Zagreus eye colour scheme because he's Garmadon's son and the Green Ninja.
Jay: He may be human now but he was /so close/ to turning into a Fangpyre. Hence, his canines are still elongated to resemble fangs, and the freckles that miraculously appeared are actually scales that never fully managed to disappear.
Nya: Since she was stuck as the ocean for a whole year, she still retains the horns of her dragon form, as well as pointed ears because she was a /dragon/. Sometimes, when it's really dark, the markings of the ocean on her skin just. light up. Bioluminescent girl
Kai: literally nothing. He gets trauma for seeing everyone lose their humanity
sorry but. jason was, in the end, just another unlucky person that died at the joker’s hands. we can talk about how his last moments were heroic (throwing himself at the bomb to protect sheila) or about how his search for love was what got him killed (bruce’s perceived rejection pushing him to go looking for sheila in the first place), but it doesn’t change that his death wasn’t something epic. it didn’t matter.
I personally like Thunder's prosthetic. Explained it to my friend (who does use a mobility device, a cane and wheelchair, and listens to me rant and infodump about BB) and they agreed, it's important to know that not every person needs what someone wants to give them. It's another example of "bad ableist person does a thing that hurts a disabled person because they are bad and ableist".
Clear Sky got Jagged Peak killed and would have killed Sunlit Frost! He would absolutely force his disabled son to be "normal" and present it like a privilege. "I wouldn't do this for anyone else, it's special, why don't you want to be helped?"
Thunder Storm should toss it in Clear Sky's face. (I would say toss it into the river but we do not pollute waterways in this house)
Thank you for telling me this, and tell your friend I'm thanking them too! If they have anything else to add please forward what they have to say
Since BB!DOTC tackles some of the heaviest topics in the entire series because its canon equivalent is so dark, I think very carefully about what I do here and how I show it. I take feedback on its sensitive aspects very seriously. If I'm understanding the criticism properly, it's that I should avoid stigmatizing prosthetics by making sure Thunder Storm's not the only one with it-- which he's not! And I'll add even more.
I don't want to avoid something only because it's uncomfortable if the topic is important, and my portrayal is respectful. Ableism IS uncomfortable! There are some situations where a prosthetic is not wanted! I think the rejection of this particular one is both a good opportunity to show a type of ableism and ALSO is very fitting for the characters.
In BB!Clear Sky's mind, the villain, he's fixing an old mistake. He can't admit that he got Jagged Peak killed or take REAL accountability for it (though he will, occasionally, apologize insincerely), but deep in his bones, he knows what he did was cruel. He'll never tell anyone this because he doesn't really cognate it himself, but Thunder Storm NEEDS to take his gift.
If Thunder doesn't take it, it blows a hole in his newest story. You see, throwing Jagged Peak out was All That Could Have Been Done back then. It was a Tragedy and he simply Made A Hard Choice. He regrets it very much, But You Have To Understand.
But now? Now? Well, behold. Look at what he's accomplished since the tragic death of his little brother. His cats are well-fed, cared for, and stable enough to make such incredible advancements. If only Jagged Peak had been able to hold on longer, if only he could be here now, I could fix him.
Just like I can (MAKE YOU JUST LIKE ME) fix you.
"Everything I've ever done is for Jagged Peak. For Fluttering Wing. For you." Thunder Sky is SPECIAL, but if he rejects any gift, tries to turn down the "privileges" offered to him, in an instant that becomes ungratefulness and arrogance. He both forces him to be special, and then leverages it against him if it's rejected. "Spoiled brat, doesn't appreciate what I've worked so hard to give him."
It all goes back to him and his own guilt. He can NEVER be wrong. He can't accept his family doesn't have to be "normal" or reflect his own ability. He won't see himself as a bully, let alone a murderer. It was never about his son's comfort or finding out what Thunder Storm wants or needs, it was about his own ego.
...All that said I'm still taking feedback if there's anything else I should keep in mind, or if anyone has a counter point, especially if you also have experience here.
(In the interest of having a link trail for posterity, here's the critique/call for feedback this is in response to)
au in which jay never died and ended up transitioning to being mostly an on-field medic (still somewhat active in the superhero community) but somehow when he meets kyle during some crisis event, their dynamics is very similar to their og one, which is shocking to everyone, because (with jason’s trauma being much less severe) they’re both pretty chill guys and yet for whatever reason they drive each other mad.

qétoiles n qbagz’ convo about his code arm + fun banter from last sunday :] english subs + transcript below da cut
[Video transcript:
Etoiles: But yesterday when he [Forever] talked to me, he was so frightened, basically he was like, ‘But one day won’t you lose your shit and want to kill the Eggs with the Code, and everything?’ Though I was telling him, ‘But the fact is, I know the Code very well’—
Baghera: Oh, so you told him you joined—?
Etoiles: No, no, no, not at all. It’s just that he has these assumptions that I’m really allied to the Code because—
Baghera: I think it’s due to your Code tattoo, also, it gives off the impression you’re in the process of transforming into a Code, Etoiles, let’s not lie.
Etoiles: That’s it, that’s it. But, basically I told him that I’ve had it since—
Baghera: But you don’t give a shit? You’re taking it well?
Etoiles: Well, yeah, I don’t give a shit because I know he’ll never beat me. Basically I—
Baghera: But you don’t give a shit about the code literally popping up over your body?
Etoiles: Well, yeah, because it’s a part of me now. It’s normal.
Baghera: How?
Etoiles: Well, after— after fighting someone 17 times, you start— you start creating links. But those links—
Baghera: But— you know that’s not how things work. Like— look, we cross paths. Right now we’re crossing paths. You see? We’re crossing paths. I kick your ass. Like, for free. You see? I see you, I’m like, ‘Bro, I don’t like his face,’ so I kick your ass.
Etoiles: But no! Because if you tell me ‘Good fight’ at the end—
Baghera: I see you again— wait, I’m not finished. I see you again like 12 times, and I tell myself, ‘Hey, I’ll do it again,’ I kick your ass again. After a while, Rayou, I won’t get diabetes!
Etoiles: Well, maybe you will, huh.
Baghera: Yes, but it’s not— it doesn’t work, like— there’s no correlation, you see!
Etoiles: You know you won’t have those cells anymore, you know, it’s possible.
Baghera: But— no— what I mean is— Etoiles! That’s now how it works! It’s worrisome! It’s normal for us to worry!
Etoiles: Well, yeah, but, uhhh. Basically, you’re all used to talking with me on the island. And you understand very well that there’s nothing able to corrupt me.
Baghera: That we don’t know, Etoiles! Because— if it’s— I know that your morality, and your enormous brain, and your big body, won’t get corrupted. But if there’s suddenly— well, what I mean is that we don’t know what all the possible systems of manipulation on the island are.
Etoiles: It’s true. No, it’s true. But for the moment I’m doing well.
Baghera: Yeah, well, so much the better. But—
Etoiles: For the moment I’m doing well!
Baghera: If you feel any change, Etoiles, mention it, okay?
Etoiles: Oh, I’ll talk about it. But for the time being I’m doing very well.
Baghera: So I can understand peoples’ fear upon seeing you LITERALLY transform into a Code and who tell themselves, ‘Oh, strange, maybe there’s a thing with the Codes.’
Etoiles: It’s true but who can better know the dangers of the Code than someone who’s confronted it his whole life? Instead of someone who—
Baghera: I’m well aware.
Etoiles: No but it’s— it’s— it’s for that reason that I told Forever. I totally understand the fear and everything, it’s normal. You see a dude turning into a Code, you ask yourself, ‘What’s the guy who sent him doing?’
Baghera: Well, yeah, there you go.
Etoiles: Like, ‘Who sent him?’
Baghera: But you don’t feel any different? Nothing?
Etoiles: Absolutely not, no. Everything is going well. I still hate the Code whenever I see him, I still want to kick his ass. Everything’s fine. Even if right now I want him—
Baghera: But you join up with them when he suggests it, yeah. Well, it’s to get the shield back.
Etoiles: It was just for the shield, believe me. Believe me, if I run into them again- if I run into them again and they don’t offer me things to save the Eggs and everything, it’s goodbye. And considering what I’ve prepared— considering what I’ve prepared, I objectively think that 5 Codes won’t be enough to kill me. There’ll need to be 10 of them.
Baghera: They might bring 10, huh.
Etoiles: Yeah, well, then again, we have time.
Baghera: Well, in any case, they don’t want to kill you anymore since you’re working with them.
Etoiles: Well, in fact, we’re not really— actually— I don’t really know what he’s thinking. Because the last time we talked I told them, ‘But if you lay even a finger on the Eggs, I’ll kick your fucking asses, you sacks of shit.’ And they left, and they didn’t answer me.
Baghera: Then again, they’re a bit cryptic, the Codes, you know.
Etoiles: Yeah, but normally they— I managed to talk with them a bit, so— so I don’t know. Personally, I’m telling you—
Baghera: Okay, no, what I mean is that I understand why when people see you they think, ‘Maybe it’s possible he’s getting a little bit corrupted by the Codes.’
Etoiles: No but yeah, yeah, I totally get it. But honestly, never. Never in a million years.
Baghera: I believe you! I trust you. But if there’s— if once you feel any difference or something of the sort, you mention it, okay? To whomever you want, but you mention it.
Etoiles: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah (10000x)
Baghera: You know you’re not very reassuring when you say that, as an answer.
Etoiles: That’s true. But I’m telling you there’s no problem. And— actually. The moment I start feeling strange, I’ll put numbers. And so you’ll have to come get me.
Baghera: Okay, okay. I’ll remember that.
Etoiles: Just that. But I— I— yeah. I whisper in the Code’s ear.
Baghera: The day you start talking to me in binary, there’ll be an issue, basically.
Etoiles: The day I say, ‘10001’, that’s it. But actually, I’m telling you, I could never be corrupted because I have AVAST, my wool block which blocks viruses.
Can't stop thinking about Irey slowly suffocating, being choked to death, five feet away from the world's greatest heroes. This little girl was dying at the hands of a monster and yet they were moving so fast that none of the heroes in the room even knew they were there.
She was staring at half of the Justice League and no one could save her.
Her thoughts were screaming for help so loudly that even the homicidal telepath strangling her wondered who she could possibly be asking for. There was no one to rescue her, so who was she calling out for?
Jai.
In a room full of superheroes Irey was only focused on Jai. Her brother. Her twin. Her other half. She was dying and he was frozen in time. She stared at him, unable to breathe, and he stared back, unable to comprehend.
But he didn't need to comprehend. Irey was calling for him. She needed his help. Conscious or not, he wasn't going to let that call go unanswered. His speedforce connection wasn't going to let that call go unanswered.
I just think it's beautiful that she reached out to the one person she would always reach out to, knowing he wouldn't be able to answer, and yet he did. He unconsciously reacted to his sister's distress and grabbed on.
Then Irey used him to beat the living hell out of the bad guys.
HD remake of a low effort meme i made a while back in response to people hating on my man pilots jay. dude is a critter to be studied if anything. he’s shitty he’s ridiculous he’s perfect and i love it
I'm watching s2 rn and omg Mike Wheeler is my little genius.
He is so so so smart wtf. If only everyone would listen to him more smh.
I would even go as far as to say he's the smartest of the kids. Sorry not sorry Dustin. (Fr I love Dustin he's just book-smart while I feel Mike is more well-rounded-smart. He's only emotionally not the brightest.)
Thinking about Wyll and how his story fits into the over-all themes of freedom vs power...
Already his backstory is a bit of a subversion of that because, while he willingly (kinda) gave his freedom up to Mizora in exchange for power, it was distinctly not for his own gain or in pursuit of his own ambitions. It was because he was a teenager who loved his city, who saw that it was in danger, and knew he couldn't save it without sacrificing himself for it. And in doing so he lost his only family and his entire support system for years, cast out of the very city he had just saved. He kept his loved ones free by putting his own head on the block.
At the beginning of the game he has to make a choice about whether or not he is going to again sacrifice his freedom, in some form or fashion, for a tiefling he doesn't know. And either he does, and is punished for it, or doesn't, and that tiefling never gets to be free from her captors (at least, not while she's breathing).
And in the third Act he has to make an impossible choice that, once again, puts his freedom and the freedom of someone he loves in direct opposition. And he can choose the power, creating an eternal pact and damning himself to the Hells so his father is guaranteed freedom and safety, either for that reason alone or for ambitions he has gained throughout the story. Or he can choose his own freedom, either to be free of his past burdens or to pursue power in other areas more freely (if I remember correctly), and supposedly seal his father's fate. Once again, he cannot be free without someone else suffering for it and vice versa.
Except that's not the case. Not this time. It is possible for Wyll to save his father, and he now has the strength and connections to ensure his safety long-term despite Mizora's scheming. His freedom does not guarantee the destruction of someone or something else.
And then he decides where he's going to go afterwards. Either back to the Hells, doing a work he has been proud of despite its origins but free from his patron. Or he can remain in Baldur's Gate as Duke, gaining power over and security through the city he loves but being chained to obligation and politics, making "bedfellows" of people who espouse beliefs and goals he finds diametrically opposed to his own morals ("my father calls it diplomacy; I call it hypocrisy"). The only difference to the previous choices being that choosing one path will not doom the other. He can do a lot of good as Duke, but returning to the Hells allows him the hands-on approach he thrives in as well as being able to directly help his friend regain her freedom. Becoming Duke could freeze him out of being the Blade of Avernus, but that's not necessarily true the other way around; after all, there will eventually be a nasty war wound or a situation in the city that calls him home.
