I grew up in the community surrounded by people who #really poured their hearts and souls into their stuff and were sooo so kind to me #the art and writing communities were super tight and I actually am still in touch with many of them #including the man the myth the legend jason weight o7 you could have saved RvB if they kept you on for s18 king #like I still remember the day saltsanford sent me like. a 4 ask long text wall screaming about my lyric comic while I was in line at ax #nearly fainted #ahh my lyric comic….I still have it up on ur channel. before my dad passed away he would always show me when it hit a new milestone in view #old art is always kind of embarsssing and tbh I think my interpretations of the characters made me well known much more than my art skill #but after high school my life kind of. fell apart in a lot of ways. dad dying was def a part of that 💀 and I think I found orv exactly at #the time I needed it. but looking back at my old RvB stuff is kind of like #a little time capsule ig. Yes Affiliation: Jedi Order Rank: Jedi Padawan (former Sith Apprentice) Home planet: Coruscant Lightsaber: Ok, so she has 2 lightsabers, but one of them is more like a shield? It's attached to the gauntlet on her left arm and it like shoots out in a circle when she ignites it (the other one is just a regular saber, and they're both blue btw). Preferred combat style: Form IV, Ataru. He trained them in lightsaber combat and the dark side of the force for 13 years. During that time he got her to torture and kill a bunch of people (because dark side stuff yanno). He told them that these people were Jedi, or enemies of the Separatists, or ruthless criminals. He manipulated everything she saw so that they would never find out that in fact every single person she killed was completely innocent. He knew they would never hurt anyone who had done nothing wrong. No one viewed her as anything but a cold hearted murderer (which is fair tbh). Eventually, they find out. She duals Sidious *insert lightsaber fight here* and only just escapes on their starfighter with a massive wound in her arm because of Force Lightning. They end up ditching her hood + mask and dying their hair green because Identity Crisis™. She crash lands and falls asleep on a planet (it's Coruscant for now, but I'm probs gonna change it to Naboo or something later) and wakes up in the infirmary, with their arm in a cast. Then she somehow ends up making friends with Anakin and Ahsoka and becoming Obi-Wan's Padawan (remember they don't know who she is) -people- Friends: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Plo Koon, Mace Windu (the only reason they're friends with Plo and Mace is because they were just like "child!! in need of father figure!!" because they are Dads) Master: Obi-Wan Kenobi Enemies: Darth Sidious, General Grievous, any Sith/Separatist really -stats- Lightsaber skill: 8/10 Force skill: 8/10 Physical strength: 8/10 Stamina: 6/10 Hand to hand combat: 8/10 Agility: 7/10 Speed: 7/10 Well this was long. alright first lets throw it back to preschool! my fav childhood toys were my baby doll (snookums) and a plush pig that my grandma got me that i just called ‘pig’ ...i watched the babe movies countless times, and piglet? that anxious little guy GETS ME bro. when my preschool did a nativity play and my class got to choose an animal to be in baby jesus’ manger, my mother recalls me saying that i would be a pig because jewish people (jesus christ) wouldnt eat me. she has no idea how or when i learned about kosher foods. ironically despite my namesake i was too afraid of the movie charlotte’s web to watch it more than once because the scary farmer tries to kill wilbur for being small and the pretty spider dies. 

sugar creek gang 

OKAY this is a book series from the 40s-70s about a group of christian little boys in indiana who went on adventures in the woods and helped people. my dad read a LOT of chapter books to me as bedtime stories when i was little (see also the mandie series, nancy drew and the hardy boys, little house on the prairie) but sugar creek gang is one that really hit. i read all 36 books with dad and at least once again on my own. there was a series of 4 or 5 movies in the early 2000s when i was the Perfect age to have a crush on most if not all of them. this might be too much detail but i have to tell you about these boys. we WILL not be revisiting the heavy religious themes. 

 the narrator is bill who is Good and Kind and wants to be a doctor when he grows up. his best friend is a chubby boy nicknamed poetry because he memorizes and quotes poems, he is the Detective of the group. BIG JIM is the leader of the group who is supposed to be like, 14, which was very cool and hot, to me. and yes there is a little jim, who is the baby of the group. then there is CIRCUS who is known for his climbing and acrobatics, and his FIVE SISTERS AND BEAUTIFUL SINGING VOICE. dreamboy. i’m almost done listing boys, i promise. a boy called dragonfly who is allergic to everything and hella superstitious. later in the series a new boy named tom moves to town and tom has an older brother bob who is NOT A CHRISTIAN (bully) 

tangentially, the buttercream gang, a movie from 1992 that was almost definitely made by some christians who grew up reading the sugar creek gang series which i’m guessing on vibes alone. will spare you Good Boy details but scott is in love with his best friend pete who moves to chicago and falls in with a bad crowd and scott just refuses to stop LOVING HIM. very gay christian film in retrospect. 

peter pan

so i know liking disney’s peter pan isnt niche, but it was the way i liked it. tinker bell stan from day one, i watched all of those disney fairies movies, even the ones that came out after i was definitely not intended audience. there was an online pixie hollow game where you could design your own fairies and play mini games where you gathered dew drops or something. had a HUGE CRUSH on jeremy sumpter in peter pan (2003) then i got really darkly obsessed with the idea of growing up when i was 12 or 13, and everything peter pan was deeply My Shit for my entire adolescence. i read the original book and every other twisted version of the story i could find and seriously freaked myself out about wasting my youth.

you’ve probably heard of jenny han now, or at least the netflix adaptations for to all the boys i’ve loved before and the sequel ps i still love you (always and forever, lara jean, coming soon?) but before she wrote THOSE, she wrote my first ever Favorite Book, about annemarie “shug” wilcox, a girl in the summer before starting middle school. it is SO engraved on my heart i cannot explain. i felt so incredibly understood and cant even tell you how many times i read it. thinking about all of the ways it made me feel SEEN is actually making me very tender so i’m gonna go on.  

the summer series

on the subject of jenny han, since she was now my Favorite author, when she came out with the summer i turned pretty in 2009, i was ALL IN. it’s not summer without you, and we’ll always have summer were published the next two years. a coming of age series about a girl isabel “belly” conklin who stays at her mother’s best friend's house at the beach in the summers. i really could talk about it forever yall. i actually dont know how to be succinct about it. i will try. her mom’s friend has TWO BOYS. one brother, jeremiah, is the golden boy and her best friend who is in love with her! the older one CONRAD is her childhood crush who's just sort of around while belly is firmly getting over her childish feelings and going out and experiencing teen beach life with jeremiah for the first time and figuring out who she is and wants to be! by the end of the summer he admits he feels differently about her (hence belly internalizing this as The Summer I Turned Pretty) and they get together. this is already too much so i will just say that the next two books deal with a PROFOUND LOSS and the selfishness of grief and the SELFLESSNESS OF CONRAD and i will absolutely lose my shit if netflix picks it up for a second jenny han series adaptation. 

pappyland

this was a kids show in the 90′s that features a character named Pappy Drew-It, an artist dressed like a 49er who lives in a magic cabin in pappyland. there’s tons of characters and music and life lessons but the meat of every episode is a detailed drawing how-to (pappy is actually a cartoonist, michael cariglio) and i have a hard back cover sketch book from my grandpa that i FILLED with drawings that pappy and DOODLEBUG taught me to do. there is a running gag that pappy always breaks his crayons.  

boy meets world

i KNOW this is beloved by many but i’m counting it because i’m simply too young to have such an obsession with it! the show ran from 1992-2000. i was born in 1996, but reruns on the disney channel and abc family cemented it as one of my favorite shows. cory and shawn, closer than brothers, shameless homoromantics, shawn is cory’s first wife!!!!! truly showed me what a best friend can and should be!!!!!! the great love of your life!!!!! TOPANGA, the og weird feminist girl who said stop shaving your legs and start speaking your mind, ladies! the characters are so richly developed that they are real people to my heart. YES every character on this show is in their late 30s-early 40s and YES i feel like we grew up together. in season one they’re in the 6th grade and we follow them all the way to COLLEGE. countless poignant life lessons, often literally dictated by the wise and hilarious MR. FEENY, cory’s next door neighbor and somehow one of his teachers for YEARS. my love was only solidified by the 2014 girl meets world reboot, centered on cory and topanga’s daughter and her best friend. (which was literally cancelled because disney didn’t want to transition from a kids show to a teen show, something essential to the original. also because that teen show would have had CANON LESBIANS. extremely shameful move in 2017!) boy meets world lives rent free in my heart and i will never evict it!!!!!!!

i consulted my mother when i got stumped for more and she reminded me that i had obsessions with the impressionist art period and babies and ANYTHING fairies or pixies, and i was way too young when my love of the canadian teen after school special degrassi began. she also said bob ross, which i was hesitant to include because he’s been super ~trendy in recent years, but to be fair (To Be Faaairrr) she’s right! i don’t think people really watched the joy of painting as much as i have throughout my life. best sick day show of all time.

lastly i could honestly list anna herself as a niche interest, my mom actually metioned that ive always hyperfixated on my girl friends (gay) but i’ll just note that YES friday night lights, YES barry lyga novels. love to share so many things with you, niche or not, they’re niche in Our Mind.

#with the baby obsession came an obsession with adoption #my aunt and uncle adopted and when i learned that there were ORPHANS whew #i was in preschool judging people for getting pregnant when there were SO many babies without mommies #she had a good point! #also does being a niall girl in 2012 count

   Long post ahead, but I decided to do all of the questions for my Obey Me! MC and OC to get to know them more.

1. Which of the Boys are they the most like?

Sylvia- Beelzebub; Naive and loveable but doesn’t like it when people touch their stuff (for Beel it’s his food, while Sylvia is her belongings; mainly her cross choker that Mammon might pawn).

Oliver- Satan; Bookworms who are very courteous and gentlemanly (though the only exception is that Oliver doesn’t have Satan’s temper).

2. Which of the Boys are they the least like?

Sylvia- Belphegor; She doesn’t like liars and is skeptical when someone lies to her, while Belphegor is the master of lying and manipulating.

Oliver- Mammon; Oliver was taught not to steal by his grandparents and finds stealing to be immoral while Mammon doesn’t like him being friendly with his human.

3. Who does your MC date? [If multiple, what order do they start dating each one?]

Sylvia- Her first date was with Satan- the two went to Devildom’s version of a cat cafe before they took a detour to The Royal Library.

Oliver- He’s currently single, hasn’t dated yet, but he does have some demons fancying him from afar- even has gotten himself a secret admirer during his stay.

4. How does your MC Sleep? [On their side, on their back, with a partner, etc., in PJs, etc.]

Sylvia- She usually sleeps on her side (any side) or stomach by herself, her PJs are usually a cami with wide-leg pajama pants; Sylvia also has a pajama jacket she wears only when she goes out of her room.

Oliver- Mostly sleeps on his stomach; his PJs are always a short-sleeve shirt and flannel pajama pants with a drawstring.

5. If you were to pick one song — and only one song — to describe your MC, what would it be and why?

Sylvia- “Show Yourself” by Idina Menzel; it is when she rediscovers herself thanks to the fairy queen.

Oliver- I don’t know why, but the first song that comes to mind for Oliver lyric-wise is “Last Stardust” by Aimer.

6. Did they come from a religious family/culture? Do they practice a religion? 

Sylvia- Not really, she doesn’t really care about religion as long as someone isn’t forcing them on her.

Oliver- Oliver’s grandparents are into Christianity so he still believes that demons are bad and angels are good, but he isn’t the kind of guy to force his religion onto others.

7. What do they think about the whole angel/demon stuff? 

Sylvia- She doesn’t particularly care about all of that up until she was whisked away into the exchange program.

Oliver- He’s a believer since he was a kid, and the poor guy came close to getting a heart attack when he found out where he was.

8. What’s your MC’s relationship with their family?

Sylvia- She only has a mother and step-father and she loves them both.

Oliver- He barely remembers his parents since they died when Oliver was a child, but his grandparents would tell him that they loved him dearly.

9. What are your MC’s chances of survival if they get lost in the levels of Devildom that take you to the surface [aka the layers of Hell]?

Neither of them would survive the whole ordeal!

10. Is your MC jealous/upset about not being able to use magic? Do they learn?

Sylvia- She only gets jealous when Solomon shows off his magic capabilities, but she would be in Mammon levels of denial and would say that she’ll survive without them. However during her stay in Devildom she began to notice that she has the ability to calm down any creature with her hands thanks to Lavande’s fairy soul.

Oliver- He doesn’t mind not being able to use magic, but as it turns out that he has untapped magic and it shows full force when Solomon lets Oliver borrow some of his magic during everyone’s stay at Diavolo’s castle.

11. What was your MC’s first impression of the demon boys? 

Sylvia- She did not believe that everyone were demons, not one bit- she would act sarcastic around Mammon and call Lucifer ‘Mom’ to name examples, but she gets along fairly well with Satan when the two would bond over cats.

Oliver- Panic mode at 99%; Diavolo had to reassure him that no one in Devildom would ever lay a hand on Oliver because he’s the exchange student.

12. First impression of the Angels & Solomon?

Sylvia- Sylvia and Solomon got along like water and oil, not good… As for the angels, she adores Luke and adopts him as her kid brother while it was love at first sight with Simeon- she still has feelings for him, even though he will never reciprocate.

Oliver- He kind of gets along with Solomon since the two are roommates and he’s good friends with Simeon.

13. What is a skill your MC has that the Boys would be surprised by?

Sylvia- She knows how to bake; as a child she would fawn over cakes and the pretty decorations, which got her wanting to major in Baking and Pastry Arts.

Oliver- Oliver is an excellent writer and is the kind of guy that would act as the beta reader for when he needs to look over something.

14. Do they own a secret place for their most prized possessions?   

Sylvia- She has a jewelry box that she got from one of Devildom’s shop to put away her choker.

Oliver- Not really.

15. What’s the most important thing they own?

Sylvia- Her cross choker that was a Christmas gift from her best friend back in high school.

Oliver- He has a locket that belonged to his mother that has his parents in them.

16. Do they eat the strange demon food?

Sylvia- She thought the food in Devildom looked odd, but was able to stomach most of the food- she really loves the sweets that the realm provides.

Oliver- He was reluctant but had to stomach the demon food so he won’t starve himself, some of the demon foods still makes him sick to his stomach.

17. What’s their favourite part of being in Devildom?

Sylvia- She went to Devildom’s version of a cat cafe with Satan and she fell in love with the cat-like demons that were there; it made her feel less homesick but she missed her cat very much.

Oliver- None, he can’t wait for the moment when the exchange program is over and he can go back to the human realm; being around Sylvia and Solomon helped his sanity some.

18. What does your MC miss most about the human world?

Sylvia- Her parents and cat Marble, she hoped that they’re looking after him while she was gone.

Oliver- His grandparents; they must be worried sick and must be assuming that he must have been kidnapped or worse.

19. What does MC spend most of their time doing/with who?

Sylvia- At the start the only demons she spent time with are Satan and Mammon, she would try to spend some time with Simeon as well because she’s been crushing on him. Eventually she would also spend some time with the twins.

Oliver- He spent a lot of time with Asmodeus since he’s close with Solomon, but when his lineage was revealed he would try to spend much time with the brothers.

20. How does MC wear the RAD uniform? [If they do.]

Sylvia-  Her full-body reference [x]

Oliver- His uniform is similar to Solomon’s but he has a black tie like Sylvia’s.

Your first OC ever? hmm, there's probably two answers 1) an unnamed character who was basically a fantasy dressed fox kemono boy. do you remember playing a game as a kid where you look out the window in a car and you imagine someone doing sick parkour beside your car? he was the character i imagined (there was also a whole other story i dreamt up where i was some long lost princess from other world and he was gonna save me from this one but that's a whole other thing) he's technically a character i thought of but never thought of anything beyond that, i don't think i ever drew him either 2) 4 (maybe 5) characters i made in middle school where it was about these characters that come from families that can bend one particular element, and they're all friends on school trying to get used to their passed down powers and also be basically kid superheroes. i drew them out and gave them names, but i never wrote anything beyond that, but they were definitely ones that i would call my first actual written ocs 2. DnD Character Questions: Zephrine

B/c my friend’s gone and done these and they looked fun. Original questions is here

1) What is their full name, and does it have any special relevance? Alternatively, what nicknames do they have?

Zephrine Auclair is her full name, as far as she’s concerned. Her actual full name is unknown to her though she’s aware at least that Auclair isn’t the surname she was born with. Adopted and all that.

As for nicknames, Zeph is a shorthand she’s okay with, and her stage persona when she was a performer was very creatively named Zephyra. 2) What hobby would they like to be good at?

Cooking, or sewing. Probably sewing a little more than cooking, since she’s at least somewhat passable at cooking. Also, gardening. She loves plants and flowers but doesn’t quite have the green thumb that her mother does. 3) If they played dnd what race and class would they pick?

A gnome Beastmaster ranger or Circle of the Shepherd druid. She’d want to be something completely different from what she is or can turn into in real life. Also, she’s always wanted healing abilities and loves animals(most of them) so she would want either one really close animal companion or as many animal friends as she could possibly make. She would also inevitably get really distraught when something happened to said animal friends. 4) If they could go back in time and change one thing, what would they change?

She would have left the circus to travel with Therila sooner. Even though it’s not really her fault, Zeph still feels an incredible amount of guilt for getting her girlfriend into the situation she’s in. She feels if she’d followed her heart and been less indecisive, she could have saved Therila a lot of hardship.

That said, Zeph has grown very attached to her new friends she’s met, so that would make changing things hard. There’s several things she wants to help them with and the idea of not being able to help wouldn’t sit well with her. Zeph would feel like she was abandoning her new friends for Therila.

She’d still change things, if she could, because she would want to spare Therila what she’s been through, but it would be with a heavy heart. If she could find a way to have it both ways, she’d do it in an instant. 5) What is their favourite weapon to wield?

Her magique. She has a dagger and a quarterstaff, but neither of those has really felt “right” for her, nor have they been particularly useful. Her magic, though, is not only incredibly useful and versatile, but more importantly it’s a part of her. Not only, that, it’s a part of her that she loves. Zeph gets frustrated at her inability to tap into it, or control it, but she’s never felt negatively towards her magic itself. Because when she gets it right, she feels powerful, incredible, even celestial. It feels right, and it feels good.

6) If you could behove them one magical item, what would you give them?

Robes of Self Confidence! Ring of Decisiveness. Underwear of Stop Doubting Yourself and Be More Assertive.

Or, idk. Boosting her charisma further would be nice, I guess??? I don’t know enough about dnd magical items. Also some of the stuff she has is already pretty sweet so I can’t complain. (She has a cloak that can let her turn into a raven for an hour! It’s baller.) 7) If they didn’t have to adventure, would they stop?

No. She’s gotten a taste for blood now. Nothing can stop her.

Jk, but still no because she’s kind of found her calling in it. She gets to help people, and wants to continue doing so until she finds a better way to help people that maybe involves less murder and nearly dying all the time. 8) What do they look for in a platonic or romantic partner?

Passion, and compassion. A strong moral compass and the courage to not only adhere to it, but stand up for it as well. A sense of humor and some self-confidence doesn’t hurt, either.

Also, it’s not a thing she consciously looks for, but one thing that all of her previous partners have in common is that they are/were all very assertive people. Make of that what you will lmao 9) Do they trust easily? Yes and no. When she was younger, I would say yes without a doubt, but she’s put her trust in the wrong people more than a few times throughout the years and I think that’s made her wiser than she lets on.

I think the best way to describe it is that, if she hasn’t been given reason not to, she’s willing to give people a chance and will put herself out there even knowing it could end badly. She’s been hurt enough times to believe it’s a risk, but she believes in people as a whole enough to also believe it’s a risk worth taking. She’ll believe in you until you give her reason not to.

10) What is their favourite colour?

Blues and greens tend to be her favorite, so I’ll go halfway and say blue-green. Robin’s egg blue.

She also likes bright yellow. Just, not on her. 11) Diplomatic or aggressive?

I’m gonna say diplomatic, but I think it would be more accurate to say she was manipulative than truly compromising like diplomacy tends to imply. She’s aggressive about her morals, but I don’t think I’d call her aggressive overall, and she’s definitely not the punchy sort. She definitely prefers non-violent solutions to problems and disagreements. Unless you’re an utter monster but I’m not sure that counts. 12) They get arrested, and thrown in jail, how do they escape?

Probably most likely to talk herself out of jail. If she’d been put in there unjustly, she’d try and prove it. If she was there justly, she’d try and suggest alternate ways she could serve whatever sentence she’s been given, or if her sentence was pretty minimal and none of her friends were in danger, she’d just serve it.

If talking didn’t work, she’d try and get a guard close enough to incapacitate them, which she would do via hold person or fire + hot metal prison bars. Get the keys, go from there. Or if there was a window, she’d see if there was a way to climb out that way. 13) Would they leave their party for any reason?

Currently and for the short-term future, she would only leave if they would no longer have her. She’s rather attached on a personal level, and beyond that, they’ve done a lot for her and she feels it’s only right to do a lot for them in return.

The only way other than that would be for them to do something really morally reprehensible, but I can’t really see them doing something bad enough for her to just up and leave. 14) If they could own any creature as a pet, what would they have? 

A GRIFFIN. Or she would, if they didn’t eat horses at best and people at worst.

More realistically, she’d probably like to have some sort of fat lil’ songbird, provided she didn’t have to keep it in a cage. If not a bird, a rabbit or a guinea pig would also do.

15) How have you influenced your characters personality?

Unfortunately my stupidity and inability to tell a coherent story for the life of me has been inflicted upon Zephrine. She can be kinda ditzy lol

Also my temper, a bit.  But also my desire to do good and my love of the arts and also pretty things!

Oh, but also my anxiety. I’m SORRY Zephrine lmao 16) Do they have any tattoos? If so what? If not, do you think they would get one in the future?

Nope, and no.  She appreciates them on other people,  but they're not really for her.

The Tiamat mark on her arm doesn’t count. 17) Where would they like to be in ten years time?

Alive, surrounded by friends and making the world a better place. She’s found love and managed to keep it. Therila is safe and happy, her friends are safe and happy. Her mother isn’t alone when Zeph isn’t there, and is content. Zeph travels a lot, be it with her partner, her friends, or both, righting the wrongs of the world, changing things for the better and helping others along the way. They travel, but they always have a home they can return to when they need to catch their breath. Ideally in the more literal, physical sense- in which case there needs to be flowers, and lots of them- but the metaphorical sense works, too. She’s found her calling, her purpose in life and she’s able to guide others to theirs, as well. The world has less suffering in it than it did before and it feels like she’s able to make a difference.

Zephrine knows that’s probably not realistic, and she knows that life never really goes the way you want or plan, but she’s certainly going to try and make things reality where she can. She’s gonna at least make an effort.

18) What do they look like? Either description or picture.

She looks like if a dragon and a disney princess had a baby together.

And if I’m feeling more descriptive, I’d say she’s got shiny brass scales and the rounded brass dragon crest to match, big orangey-brown eyes with some yellow towards the pupils. She’s got a ‘3’ mouth, kinda like a python. It’s very cute.

Body-wise, she’s built like a ballerina, with legs for days and a lean musculature. She’s got slightly broad shoulders, kinda narrow hips, and a tail that she has to lift slightly at the end so it doesn’t drag on the floor. The end of it kinda looks like a giant leaf. She also has small, useless dragon wings that are either cute or creepy depending on who you ask.

Clothes-wise and just in general, she’s very meticulous about hygiene and just as meticulous about her appearance. She doesn’t have the excessive ruffles and lace and gemstones of someone upper class, but everything she wears tends to be colorful and chosen very carefully. She tends to be a fan of bishop/peasant sleeves and either A-line dresses or long, flowy tunics. She’s also big on putting in little details, like a fancy belt buckle or some really nice boots. She’s very fashion-conscientious but not completely impractical.

19) What genre of music would they be into?

Zeph appreciates all types of music and that would be no different if she had access to our stuff. From rap to metal to bluegrass, she’ll pick bits of anything, but her favorites would likely be dance mixes of upbeat pop songs, or something with synthpop. Or funk/r&b??? Something she can either dance to or something indulgently sad she can listen to while languidly lounging and being dramatic and morose. Depends on her mood. 20) What would be the worst thing someone could say to them?

“I hear dragons hoard things like gems and weapons and armor. I think your hoard might be failed relationships and promises you can’t keep!”

Basically anything along the lines of: You really should stop trying; You don’t know what you’re doing; You’re just a hindrance; You’re not actually helping people; Why are you trying to help others when you can’t even sort out your own problems, etc.

Imply or outright state that she just causes trouble for other people, especially if it’s something she can’t refute. Poke her right in the insecurity.

Not enough 8D I used to shave my legs, but after starting T and getting hair just everywhere, I gave up. I’m beardy, though and need to shave twice a day if I want to be clean-shaven the day through. Needless to say, I haven’t found anything worth shaving that often for.

One’s an Elder God from the unknowable reaches, their eyes the colour of exploding stars and their multitude of arms clad in the skin of forgotten nebulas that will never see the birth of a star, their mind the unending scream of creation that beguiles and bemuses the artist they bless with their knowledge.

Firstly: you do not have to ‘come out’. It’s entirely fine to spend your life pretty cool with who you are and not be interested in telling anyone. Us that are out aren’t somehow ‘better’ than you. Secondly, take your time. If you never quite manage to find where you sit, that’s okay! If you do, then that’s okay too. If it takes you years, that’s fine, if it takes hours then that’s cool too. If you find one label and it sticks for years, awesome! If you change it like clothes and have a new one each week, epic! There is literally no right way to be. Be what you want that’s true to yourself, and do not drag people for their choices.

Unless they choose to be assholes. Do no harm, but take no shit.

Getting to know the Writer

Thank you to @braith-eisen-isms and @zsweber-studios for the tags!

1. Short stories, novels, or poems?

I’ve been informed when I turn my hand to poetry it’s not bad at all. Sadly, I think otherwise.

Truthfully, the most of what I write is campaign notes, world-building, NPC and character backstories and downtime. I’ve helped building three different worlds thus far, one medieval low fantasy, one extrememly high fantasy, and one somewhere in between. And one Sci-fi universe. Although, admittedly, I had an absolute blast with that.

When I do turn my hand to proper writing, it’s typically RP responses that are grossly overdue and short fics. I’m massively guilty of what I call ‘consequence free writing’ wherein I’ll create a scenario, I’ll let a problem or scene develop, and then I’ll end it after the scene’s climax.

Actions don’t have consequences if you’re a character in one of my fics ^_^

2. What genre do you prefer reading?

I’m a dolt for Fantasy in it’s many many shapes and forms. I’ve been known to pick up a a Sci-fi or Dystopian novel once in a blue moon. There’s even some poetry and epics on my bookshelf. If the paranormal, magical, other-worldly, bizarre or otherwise fantastical make an appearance, I am all over that.

And, of course, some writing manuals. Stephen King’s ‘On Writing’ is an actual god send.

3. What genre do you prefer writing?

 I write what I read. Admittedly, RP-wise, I have been writing a surprising amount of romance as of late. I’ve turned my hand to horror before, but I fear it didn’t go overly well.

 4. Are you a planner or a write-as-I-go kind of person?

 I can have a beautiful plot lined up, full of intricacy and clever twists, and my lead character will take one look at it and simply decide otherwise. They have minds of their own. I just sort of set up the world, create the character, their motivation and turn them loose.

 5. What music do you listen to while writing?

 It really depends on the genre. Like almost everyone, the LOTR soundtrack features heavily in my playlist. There’s some translated anime soundtracks thanks to Lie and Lee, Nate Wants to Battle and Amalee. The Swedish Orchestra have done some beautiful work with gaming soundtracks, particularly Bloodbourne and Witcher.  

 6. Fave books/movies?

 Ohhhhhhh buddy. I’ll save us all and limit myself to 5 recent books.

 Mistborn- Brandon Sanderson

Sanderson’s character breathe. They are truly marvellous. His world is a vast one, his story gorgeously compelling and holy hell those twists. 

A Darker Shade of Magic/ A Gathering of Shadows- V. E. Schwab

I adore Delilah as a protagonist. Schwab doesn’t pull punches and try and make his protagonists completely likeable. They are flawed human beings and that gets them into just as much trouble as their abilities get them out of. Kell and Lila serve as each other’s muse and devil, even when half a world away.

 Terry Pratchett- The Night’s Watch

The Discworld never fails to enthral me with it’s wit and charm. Pratchett’s characters are both caricatures and subtle developed individuals. Everyone has at least one character in Discworld they simply adore. Vimes is definitely one of mine. 

The Once and Future King- T. H. White

This collection of Arthurian tales will forever remain on my bookshelf. It has earned it’s place there time and time again.

 The Last Wish- Andrzej Sapkowski

I heard the books where darker than the game. I am currently in the middle of finding out. Sapkowski’s world is a brilliant example of a grimdark world down without the depressing overlay. There are glimpses of nobility, of love and companionship. One just has to be careful those traits don’t get you killed.

7. Any current WIPs?

Every single RP thread I’m working on. The worlds are constantly expanding with more lore and epic-tier backstory.

 8. If someone were to make a cartoon out of you, what would your standard outfit be?

Leather leggings are a must. Likely a vintage cartoon T-Shirt or a block colour top with a loose denim shirt as a cover and ankle boots. 

Unless we’re LRP-ing- Then it’s the corset, gyspy-top, long boots and Hunting coat ensemble. Two swords, a small hand hammer, holy symbol around the neck, more potions than possibly needed and a hipflask (essential). An outfit I love way too much. 

9. Create a character description for yourself:

(More of a NPC description, but ho hum)

‘Away with the fairies’. She had frequently been described as such, and now she seeks to emulate it. Tall, but with far too much of a sweet palette to be lithe. She has a smile like a breeze. Perpetually there, and many don’t realize it’s presence until it’s gone. A mane of curls bounce as she talks animatedly.

10. Do you like incorporating people you actually know into your writing?

I may steal a series of conflicting traits from a person, but I won’t steal their full being.

 11. Are you kill-happy with characters?

 Oh gods no. I will put them through hell, and possibly their worst nightmares, but I will rarely kill them. All too often, that would be a kindness.

 12. Dream job?

A librarian, or a lighting apprentice for a theatre. I’ve always been fascinated by the backstage of the theatre. The special effects and everything else. I can’t be onstage for the life of me, but I would happily delve into the secrets of the backstage arts.

If I could write LRP plot for a living I would love to, but a girl’s gotta eat.

 13. Coffee or tea while writing?

 I’m with Braith. Hot chocolate wins.

14. Slow or fast writer?

 I make the tortoise look like Usian Bolt.

 15. Where/who/what do you find inspiration from?

Everywhere. I carry a notebook everywhere I go. Sometimes it’s a great collection of ideas, sometimes it’s just one well-wrought sentence. 

16. If you were put into a fantasy world, what would you be?

 Oh dang, which one? I’ll assume person preference.

 Probably one I helped make. If I forced to pick, Asyre, particularly in the City of Larchenette. A city risen from the sea, sourced around a fragment of the legendary Sun Crystal. It was one of the first places I ever created and sentimentality holds a lot.

 Not to mention, at some point a dragon washes up on shore, with a merfolk, and half a dozen others.

17. Most fave book cliche? Least fave book cliche?

 Favourite- ‘Two characters sparring, one partner pins another to a wall, intense few seconds, both character start making out.’

 Least favourite- ‘My biggest flaw is I’m clumsy/My power makes me heartless.’ Get OUT of my novel with that nonsense. I will fully rage-quit a story over this type of writing.

 18. Fave places to write?

I tend to write best in an environment where something is going on. A coffee shop, a library, a bar, there’s a lot of options.

19. Fave scenes to write?

 Descriptive, or ones where I can work in some foreshadowing.

 20. Most productive time of day for writing?

 Whenever the feeling strikes. Normally when I’m in the middle of something.

 21. Reason for writing:

 “For a teller of tales will never die- not while there are still people willing to listen.” Stories speak to something primal and universal. In every culture, we have narratives for entertaining, narratives for warning and ones written in tribute or commemeration. I find it speaks to me on that level. Hearing a compliment after I bear my soul, or put my best effort into writing somethingfulfils me in a way nothing else does.

To make things easier, and to quote a wise green haired man once upon a time, I am a writer “because there is nothing in this world I would rather be.”

6. how has the pandemic been treating you? *smiles emptily but also cries in idk if this is the reason my depression got thirty times worse or not but here we are.*

8. recommend a movie? hmmm. I really like the Emperor’s new groove, it’s beautifully bizarre. 

9. how old are you? 15 years old but only for less than a month and then I get to be not that lol.

10. school, university, occupation or other? Homeschooled though I’ll pretend that writing trashy stories that I’m too depressed to finish and drawing random art is a job. I also work with a teen health/suicide prevention group which is pretty good. all the members are depressed and trying to not be by making others happy cause we’re like that.

11. do you prefer heat or cold? cold. I don’t like the heat. at least I can bundle up and drink hot cocoa and soup and eventually I’ll go numb and die. :)

1) Do you prefer traditional drawing, or digital?

Uhh recently I’ve preferred traditional as for recent style updates/changes but I do most my work digitally.

2) How long have you been drawing?

I’ve been drawing all my life really but I started taking actual art classes when I was around 7?

3) How many classes have you taken?

(I’m assuming art classes here.) Well I’ve taken after school art classes during middle school and I’m currently in an art school! The classes I’ve taken for art are: 2D (painting, drawing, etc.), 3D (wood, metal, wax, etc.), ceramics, photography (film, digital, photo editing in photoshop & dark room settings), computer (digital art classes based in photoshop), printmaking (screenprints, copper etchings, woodcarving, etc.). While I’m still in high school, I go to my art school half-day (all these courses are college level btw kjrgnweklv).

4) Do you have a DeviantArt, personal website, or art blog?

I have a DA, Instagram, Art Amino, Paigee World, and this blog. I’m more active on here and Instagram however.

5) What’s your favorite thing to draw?

I love drawing arms and legs kejglvebtlkhnj I like the curves the body tends to have bc I just tend to like drawing round shapes?? But sketching a person is just generally fun to do.

6) What’s your least favorite thing to draw?

I dislike drawing still lives so much like, you don’t understand. While it’s great for basics and learning how to properly space things out, I find it completely tedious now.

7) How often do you use references?

Most of the time. Always use references. I use them for hands, shoulder placement, scenery, etc. I suggest not copying it directly, but looking up a stock photo can really help with learning how the body works for anything.

8) Do you draw professionally, or just for fun?

Both. I draw professionally at my art school and have sold work through them, but I also draw for fun so I can draw better professionally?

9) How much time do you spend drawing on an average day?

Almost everyday I spend about 1-4 hours drawing? My job qualifies I help little kids draw so that’s also added in but this also helps my drawing abilities. 

10) Are you confident about your art?

Ha.

11) How many art-related blogs do you follow?

I follow a lot on Instagram but maybe 5-8 on Tumblr.

12) Is it okay for people to ask you about your process?

Yeah! If it helps someone perfect their process sure!

13) Do you prefer to keep your art personal, or do you like drawing things for other people?

I like doing both but I guess it depends on what the subject matter is?

14) Do you ever collaborate with others?

Not often but I have in the past. I would like to collaborate more with others so if anyone is interested let me knoow!!

15) How long does an average piece take you to complete?

A digital work takes me about 1-3 hours to complete depending on how complex I make it. A traditional work (ex. my paper star project from forever ago with the hands on the jar) takes anywhere between 5-10 hours. 

16) Do you draw more today than you did in the past, or do you draw less?

I draw so much more given my IB Art workload and art school workload and then my job. I think it has helped me improve a lot quicker than I would’ve if I were going slower.

17) Do you think you’re justified in giving other people art advice?

Yeah credential wise. I mean I go to and art school (for almost 3 years now) and have been in critique class settings so I mean?

18) What are you currently trying to improve on?

Being more racially/body type inclusive in my art style. I find a lot of my characters are white and thin and it’s something I want to fix, along with making the different body types appear successful in my style.

19) What is the most difficult thing for you to draw?

Animals of any kind along with feet.

20) What is the easiest thing for you to draw?

Hands and legs and eyes. 

21) Do you like to challenge yourself?

Yes. Challenging myself is a way to get better and I’d prefer improve a lot more rapidly by always challenging myself.

22) Are you confident that you’re improving steadily?

Yeaah, if you were to see my personal sketchbook you could see a definite improvement from February to now.

23) Do you draw more fanart, or more original art?

I do a good mix of both?

24) Do you feel jealous when you see other people’s art, or inspired? (Be honest!)

Sometimes I get pretty envious but mostly I chose to take that envy and turn it into determination to get better at my own thing? So yeah I suppose I do get inspired lmao

25) Do you like to draw in silence, or with music?

I prefer music because I like taking frequent breaks to just, jam out?

26) For digital artists: what program(s) do you use?

I mostly use Medibang Paint Pro and sometimes Photoshop CS6.

27) For digital artists: how many layers does a typical piece require?

Over 20. I separate all the colors of a piece on multiple layers and add a clip layer if I want to change a color quickly, then lineart and the initial sketch both have different layers, then overlay and background. It’s a big mess.

28) For traditional artists: what medium do you like most? (Pencil, charcoals, etc)

I mostly sketch with a blue color pencil (as I find a regular pencil transfers the graphite too much for my liking) but I love working in watercolors and oil paints.

29) For traditional artists: How do you usually start on a big piece? (Light sketch, colored lead, sketchpaper, etc)

For something around 18 inch x 24 inch it all depends on the media I’ll be using. For a painting I start with a pencil sketch, then go to an acrylic wash (to block in the shadows), then do the actual painting. 

30) What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?

I want to get better, not the best, but better. I want to be able to be someone’s inspiration to get better and want to overpass my technical skills.
