The Saint of Bright Doors
a surreal Sri Lankan fantasy about colonialism, revolution, mixing fantasy with the modern world
follows a man raised by his mother to kill his father, a god-like cult leader
but as an adult he puts aside his life of violence and moves to the city for a quiet life
he becomes fascinated with ‘bright doors’ around the city that never open and have no other side, and joins a group studying them to find out more
and a support group for those with divine heritage that becomes increasingly revolutionary, until the task he was made for reemerges and his life upends
#the Saint of Bright Doors#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#this is kind of hard to explain I dont know if I did a very good job here lol#it is weird and full of so many interesting elements. I’m still not entirely sure how I feel about it but?? I really liked it mostly???#It starts pretty small scale focused on the MC & slowly unravels the wider worldbuilding and narrative elements in a really interesting way#The first chapter or two I assumed it was typical high fantasy but then it’s like. oh this is a modern city. with emails and stuff.#The pacing is a bit weird - it’s quite meandering and also pivots significantly in the second half. tbh I’m still ????? about the ending lm#but also I am happy to float through on vibes.#and there’s some elements (like the doors that become….not that relevant) that I want to know more about. (as an aside - I saw someone say#that it’s a very clear retelling about Buddha’s son? which idk enough about but probably could give a deeper context to a lot of it)#writing style is kinda detached from the MC but also there is a reason for this that makes sense with the twist near the end!#which is a kind of twist i LOVE. Maybe I wish it had been emphasised a bit more over the story though? unsure.#I thought his mother's story was interesting also - you think she's an terrible parent just there for background context at the start but#then when she tells her story it's like ohh there's more context here.#also I hesitate to just say ‘if you like the spear cuts-- you should read this’ because I think the elements that are similar are done in a#kinda different way and might disappoint you if you’re expecting it to be the same as spear….but regardless the sort of dreamy writing#rich world; narrative with fantasy but also modern day elements; some of the writing style; mlm MC (tho not a romance)#idk. it will definitely not work for everyone but I enjoyed it overall#also it is full of queerness#bisexual books

Thank you, dear! Maki is so.. hfgghh ♡♡
I apologize if it's very late and if this story was a little rushed or doesn't make sense, I was in the hospital with my mom.. Don't worry, she is very well! She just had surgery (I'm suck at writing smut ಥ_ಥ)
(Male reader!!, smitten omega! reader, subbttm! reader, alpha! Maki, softdom! Maki, Maki has cock, reader has pussy and cock, feminization, nipple play, frottage, rough to soft vanilla sex)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Being an omega is a curse and a blessing for you at the same time, from getting special treatment to getting treated like a slut or an object sometimes. It was 0 to 100 real quick, you have to meet the right person or in this case, the right alpha. You were glad your parents weren't like those abusive or narcissistic as other Omegas are experienced before. You actually have a very decent and normal life, your parents taught you well especially about the alphas.
You believe that not all alphas are that horrible but often, you heard or even saw with your own eyes that you actually questioned yourself whether you should even mate with one. You are an independent, one truly rare to see in omegas so it's really a choice to have a mate. Your parents were worried that you'll end up alone all your life so they offered to set up an arrangement of alphas as your potential mate.
At first you were reluctant, you were afraid about your parents taste in alphas. Not that they had terrible taste, you were scared of what kind of alphas they are. You know how they can be but thinking of being alone for the rest of your life sounds depressing. You agreed nonetheless and your parents were very delighted. They were so excited that you were sure they already made a list..
For the first few dates, they were terrible. Just as you expected, one even sent death threats just because you weren't interested in.. "Open relationship". You frustratedly sighed when most of them were talking about themselves. Well at least you dodged big bullets there, you knew you'll regret when you mate one of them. Your mother comforts you, giving you hope to find a suitable mate while your father arranged your dates.
You were starting to give up until your father came in the room, running as he looked very very excited. You were skeptical, raising your brow at him and crossing your arm. You hoped it would be great news or you might as well give up on this whole mate thing. " well, you don't believe it but Maki Zenin accepted our arrangements! " your father exclaimed as both of you and your mother were shocked to hear this news.
Your face was flushed red as your mother hugged you, celebrating as if you actually achieved something. Well you did, Maki Zenin was a powerful woman and also her family was known for their alpha genes. You actually have a crush on Maki since forever, you didn't think this would've happened to you but it did. You have seen her fights, you even heard that she's actually very respectful and such a gentleman!!
If you could, you would be squealing right now like a high school girl getting love notes from her crush. Your father had told you the arrangement, usually date in the same restaurant as always on tomorrow night. You had to stay calm in front of your parents, you didn't want to look so excited when in the past, you repeatedly told them you don't even need or want a mate. It would be embarrassing, you went to your room and got your outfit ready. You even practiced in front of your mirror, you also don't want to be a stuttering mess in front of her, Maki Zenin! You pray that it'll end up well and you are happily married together and forever! ♡
Okay, maybe you were a bit delusional there.. The next day, you were waiting in the restaurant. You came way too early, you kept checking your hair and your attire. You actually did your best as much as you can, you want to impress her so hard.
➶➶➶➶➶٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭٭➷➷➷➷➷
After months of courting her, you were both engaged and it was actually going pretty well. The first date, Maki thought you were a female omega with how much you actually cleaned yourself very well. She was flustered when you confronted her that you were a male but hey, she really hit the jackpot there. The way you talk with your soft tone, your eyes fluttering at her, your attire almost seen as an angel that has fallen from heaven. It's cheesy, she knows but she can't help but flirt with you. Your blush compliments your skin so much
That night, after your wedding and on your first honeymoon night was the night you lost your virginity to her. She was glad and appreciated that you waited for her for a long time and she won't hold back. You weren't surprised that she manhandled you so much, it actually turned you on. You were both naked on the bed as she said in hushed words in your ear while she prepared your pussy and stroking your cock. She kept edging you, fingering your hole so fast then slowing down when you were so so so close to cumming.
"Aww, I'm sorry baby but I want you to cum on my cock. Hmm, so sweet, " she smirked as you arched your back in pleasure, your hand gripping on her hand while the other was holding her other hand. It was romantic to you, you thought it was because even though she's so mean and being so rough on your pussy but she is actually so sweet. You tighten your grip as you moan louder, begging for release. Then she stopped and slowly pulled out her fingers from your gaping hole, you huff and pant as tears swelled in your eyes. Your cock twitching so hard, it was painful to hold it in but anything for your lover.
Your hole is gaping as if it was calling for her, you let go of her wrist and wrapped your arm around her neck. Your lips hovering hers as you slowly leaned and kissed. Maki traced her hands on your body, slowly from your chest then on your curves. She gripped your waist and started to devour your neck, marking and biting that it'll leave bruises. You were sure that it won't fade for weeks, you love how possessive she can get.
"Ahh~.. M-maki, please~..," you don't know why you begged for but you really need her. You feel like your body is heating up like a scorching fire. Maki hummed while she gently bit your nipples, playing with your chest. You lightly moaned and your brows furrowed, both of your naked bodies were sweating like crazy. "Baby boy~ be patient, I'll be gentle with you, " she chuckled as she gripped your thighs and pushed up, rubbing her cock to your hole. Your legs twitch every time her cock rubbed your entrance, the head of her cock threatened to push inside. You whimpered and pleaded as you buck your hips but Maki gripped on your thighs.
Your hands gripped onto the blanket behind you as you watched her cock sliding onto your pussy until she finally pushed it in. You arched your back and your eyes widened, your hole clamping on her cock. "Relax baby~ shh.. Shh, relax," she grunt while she rubbed your hips. Your eyes shut, your knuckles became white and slowly getting used to her size. It was bigger and more painful than you expected your first time to be.
After a few minutes of staying still, Maki slowly thrust her cock. You moaned, wrapping your hands around her neck again and nuzzled your head to her neck. Your feverishly moan and gasped were clearly heard from her ear, she grunt as she started to thrust hard. The slaps and your girlish moans can be heard from outside the room, your legs twitch while her cock drilling your inside as if she was rearranged your guts.
You squealed and moaned, bed creaking from how hard she thrust. Maki holds your hand as she whispers sweet nothing in your ear. She growled and soon your release came, the Milly and sticky white substance covered both your stomach and hers. Maki thrust harder than before and you mewled, pleading for her cum as your eyes rolled to the back. Not too long after your orgasm, she came inside. You gasped, feeling your womb were filled and you were pretty sure that your stomach bulged out a bit. Maki lay down on top of you, her cock still inside as she kissed the hickeys she gave in your neck. You grunt when she pulled out, her cum oozing out of your hole and you were too tired to do anything.
She went to the bathroom and came back with a wet rag and water for you, she helps you sit up and clean your body. She kissed your shoulder over and over again as you hummed, this was the best night you will not forget ♡

I see you | Chapter One
Tumblr media
As (Y/N) grew up she could tell something was wrong with her father, Every week it seemed that he had gotten weaker and weaker.
It had gotten so bad he eventually was on permanent bed rest having to be cared for by her mother at all times.
Having such a close bond with her parents she never left their side unless she had to run an errand for her mother.
Through the years of being by her mother's side and the frequent healers that could come and help, she began to study and learn from them
Taking mental notes and practicing in her own time she learned what things mixed with what, and what you should and shouldn’t use.
It was the only thing that kept the little girl's mind off of the terrible situation.
As time continued to pass, on (Y/N)’s 12th birthday just when it had seemed like everything was getting better and her father had seemed like he was healing just fine
It seemed to immediately shoot back down and he had fallen ill once again now even worse.
His body turned immune to the medicine that he was given.
The girl's mother was deeply frustrated and in pain from seeing her mate in this state.
Her mother began to shut down, hardly talking to anyone and never leaving her mate's side. Focused on one thing which was taking care of her mate, making sure he was getting the help he needed.
When (Y/N) tried talking with her mother she would only reply in short responses. It hurt the poor girl, she now finds herself wishing she had a mother again.
Soon enough the healers decide to talk your mom into traveling to the nearby village where they had more healers and the Tsahik that was able to see what was exactly going on.
It did not take long for your mother to decide on an answer and immediately began packing up bags. (Y/N) could not complain and only helped her mom pack.
Traveling to the village took about a day and by the time the family arrived in Awa’atlu, it was night.
The only light sources were the torches that were scattered around the Marui huts, the bioluminescent plants in the water, and the bright stars that were shining above.
(Y/N) was swimming on an ilu next to her mother who was on her skimwing with your father laid in front of her.
When they had come into the village's view, a loud horn reached their ears announcing their arrival as they continued to move closer.
Finally, they reached the land and immediately her father was carried away by some men, which (Y/N) would assume they were taking him to the healing hut. Her mother quickly followed shortly leaving (Y/N) all by herself.
The little girl stood there unsure of what to do, her mother and father were out of view so there was no way she would be able to find them without getting lost, this village was much bigger than her previous one.
Tears begin to cloud over her eyes piling up, threatening to spill down her aqua cheeks.
This whole journey she tried to put a strong face for her mother and father, she knew they were already dealing with a lot and didn’t want to worry them.
But once her parents were out of sight, that wall that she so bravely built up slowly began to break down.
Tears were now sliding down her face as they dropped into the sand below.
A gentle hand was laid on her shoulder. (Y/N) looked up and with her blurry view she could make out a woman in front of her slowly crouching down.
The woman’s hands move from the girl's shoulder to caressing her cheeks, using her thumbs to wipe the tears that slipped out.
“Hello my child, please do not be sad. Your father is in good care now.” The woman’s words reassured (Y/N). “I am the Tsahik, may I know your name sweetheart?” Ronal asked the small child in a soft voice, afraid of startling her.
“(Y/N)... (Y/N) te Ftxey Aman’ite, Tsahik” She replies shyly with quiet sniffles, using the back of her hand to wipe the tears away from her eyes.
“(Y/N), You have a beautiful name..Let's grab your bags and I will walk you to new Marui. It’ll be close to the healing hut so you can see your parents then.
Ronal smiled and stood up grabbing the bags that were sitting in the sand. Ronal swung some of the bags over her shoulder and then looked back at (Y/N) who was doing the same actions.
Ronal reaches her hand out to the little girl, (Y/N) hesitated at first, I mean after all this was a stranger, but then grabbed the Tsahik’s hand, and they began to walk further from the water and into the village.
“You will like it here, I promise”
Tumblr media
"Ngaytxoa Tsahìk!" You said to the older woman once you had arrived in the healing pod where there stayed your father along with some other injured and sick members that the healers were helping with.
On the way to the pod one of the aunties had asked you for help with carrying a basket of dried kelp for weaving and it took a little longer than you thought.
"It's alright (Y/N), as long as you're here now. I have a list of herbs I need you to collect for me really quick and then we began the lessons" Ronal said as she was finishing wrapping a younger boys arm then proceeds to grab a list off the table handing it out to you.
"Of course, I will be back shortly!" You say smiling, grabbing the list before leaving the pod.
You began to walk down the paths to collect herbs from where ever they stay. Some were different fruit and roots where you had to scavenge for and others were stuff you could get from different farmers around the island.
Once you finished you waved bye to the farmers with your filled basket you had been carrying, having all the herbs from Ronal's list in it, making your way back to the Tsahìk.
On your way back you stop for a second as you watched some of the Metkayina girls the same age hanging out together, some were braiding each others hair while others were talking probably gossiping about the newest drama that had rumored around the village.
You let out a sigh with a small frown.
You wanted to make friends but it was as if they avoided you like you were the plague.
You hung out with Tsireya a couple times but her other friends always pulled her away from you or Tsireya was busy taking her own lessons from her mother so you guys never had an actual hang out without someone coming to interrupt.
Shrugging off the sad feeling that began to rise, you begin to continue your way back.
As you were about to walk in the pod you accidentally runs into someone almost falling back at the impact.
Catching yourself, you stands straight and looks at the person you ran into about to apologize before your eyes widen as you realizes who it was.
It was one of the girls who Tsireya was always hanging out with.
"Ngaytxoa.. I didn't see you there." You say say embarrassed and looks down as if the ground was the most fascinating thing.
The girl could only scoff in annoyance and roll her eyes not bothering to pay attention to you before walking off muttering some words that you just barley heard purposely hitting your shoulder with hers.
"nari si skxawng"
You could only brush it off and continue to walk inside.
"Tsahìk I'm back! I have all the stuff you asked for." You announced as you pushes past the door to the table about to set down the basket.
"za'u (Y/N), with the basket" Ronal motioned as she was sat down on a mat with Mortar and pestle in front of her along with some water.
Turning back around you follow the orders and sets the basket down by the Tsahìk before sitting in front of her.
"Let's get to work shall we?" You could only nod her head and with that Ronal began to teach you.
Tumblr media
"Alright, thats enough for today. Did you understand everything?" The older woman asked while standing up with the new paste you both had just made in a bowl
"Yes, thank you for teaching me" you say responding before helping Ronal clean up.
"Do you want me to walk with you back to your Marui?"
"No, I'm gonna stay here for a little bit. Thank you." And with that Ronal nodded as her eyes softened with her smile faltering before leaving the healing pod back her to own Marui.
You let out a weary sigh before walking to the back of the pod to a more secluded area where he father stayed.
"Kaltxi sa'nu, sempul" You greet your parents knowing you wouldn't get a response back, only a small nod of acknowledgment from your mother who had her back towards you while laying a new cloth on your fathers forehead.
"how is he doing?" You crouch down next to your mother sitting on your knees as you observe.
After a long pause of quietness, your mother finally spoke up looking at her daughter.
"he's getting better now, thanks to you and the Tsahìks help" Aman (her mothers name) spoke to her daughter as she reaches forward and brushes a stray hair behind your ear before caressing your cheek.
You could only lean into your mothers touch.
Aman had gotten better at talking to her daughter again after the Tsahìk had scolded her for not paying attention, neglecting, her own child. She needs a reality check.
"It's getting late, you should head back to our Marui" Aman spoke to you bringing back her hand before checking on her mate once again.
"Will you be coming back with me this time? You asked with hope in your eyes that her mother would finally come home for once but once yoy looked at your mothers face with a sadden expression, you knew it wasn't going to happen.
"I'm sorry 'itetsyìp. Not tonight.."
You say nothing and nod. You got up and gave your parents both a quick peck on the cheek before leaving making your way back to your family's Marui.
You could feel tears fill your eyes but you refused to let them fall wiping them with the back of your hand letting out a shaky sigh.
Before you reached the Marui a hand landed on your shoulder startling you causing you to jump letting out a quiet yet loud shriek.
"Woah, mawey (Y/N)!" A familiar female voice said as you turned around to see Tsireya.
"Sorry for startling you, my mother asked me to grab you to have dinner with us! My father and Ao'nung had caught some extra fish and we can't eat it all~ come on" Tsireya said while grabbing your arm locking it with hers not waiting for an answer before pulling you in the direction of their Marui pod.
The two girls reach the pod and Tsireya walks in holding the door open for (Y/N) to walk in.
You mutters a quiet thank you giving the girl a smile before greeting everyone that was now sitting down getting ready to eat.
"Irayo Tsahìk, Olo'eyktan for having me over."
"No worries (Y/N) come in sit down next to Ao'nung" Ronal says smiling before telling Ao'nung to scoot over to make more room to which he only rolled his eyes before moving.
You sit down and everyone began to eat while the family made small talk with eachother while you just stayed quiet listening, only talking if they asked for an opinion or a question.
While eating you swear you could feel a burning gaze watching you, when you lifted your head and turn you meet Ao'nung's eyes staying back into yours.
Waiting for his eyes to pull away he never did and continued to stare, with what look in his eye? You couldn't exactly tell but you swore there was an extra sparkle.
Finally getting the hint he wasn't going to back down you quickly look away with blush creeping on your cheeks and continue to eat.
"(Y/N) have you been making any friends, you know the girls that Tsireya hangs out with?" Ronal asks looking at her causing all of them to go quiet and listen.
"Uh...well..not exactly...I guess they are always busy when I try and hang out with them.." you says now playing with your food in awkwardness.
"What? Tsireya I thought I told you to take in (Y/N) and make sure she was not being left out" Ronal questions her daughter in disappointment.
"Well...Ngaytxoa sa'nu...I thought they were hanging out with (Y/N). Ngaytxoa (Y/N)" Tsireya frowns upset that her friends weren't being nice to you.
"It's alright, I don't really need to hang out with them anyways I'm good with just hanging around with you Tsahìk" you could only smile reassuring the family theses no need to worry.
"Nonsense! (Y/N) you are still a kid. As much as I like having your company You need to go hang out with people your own age sometimes." Ronal replies to you.
"Why don't you hang out with Ao'nung and Rotxo! Rotxo is a good boy. Very respectful and I'm sure Ao'nung would be happy to have you hang out with him, right Ao'nung?!" Tonowari speaks up looking at Ao'nung.
Ao'nung's mouth is open astonished that his father even suggested that. "What? Why does she have to-"
Before he could finish his sentence his mother interrupts him with a harsh glare making him immediately shut up.
"Right Ao'nung?" Ronal says smiling yet still glaring at the poor boy who could only nervously avoid his mothers fiery gaze.
"Yes. She can hang out with us tomorrow..." he grumbles out shoving the last bit of food in his mouth no longer paying attention to the conversation that was going on.
"See (Y/N) there you go, You have some people to hang out with." You could only smile with a nod before going back to eating.
A little bit later everyone was finally done eating you began to help Tsireya clean up the plates.
"(Y/N) you don't have to help Tsireya. Ao'nung will walk you to your Marui" Tonowari told you with a hand on your shoulder grabbing the dishes that were in her hands.
"Oh no it's alright-" (Y/N) began to speak but was cut off with Ronal shaking her head telling you no before pushing you toward the door where Ao'nung stood muttering words under his breath that you couldn't make out.
"Okay then...goodnight, thank you for having me over for dinner" You smiled waving bye to them as you exits the Marui with Ao'nung following behind.
You and Ao'nung walk to your Marui in silence.
While you were in your own world thinking to yourself , you didn't notice a certain boys eyes on you.
Ao'nung couldn't help it, He found the Metkayina girl beautiful. But the boys ego was too high for him to talk to you and confess his attraction.
He could only play it off with being annoyed. I mean it sorta annoyed him. He never had a full conversation or even looked at you straight in the eyes..So why was he attracted to you so much. It made him frustrated.
He remembered the first time seeing you was when he got in an argument with another Metkayina boy that resulted in flying fist and so there he sat with a bloody lip and a cut on his cheek.
And out of all the healers he gotten (Y/N) to patch him up. The whole time she was making the paste she never said a word and he was thankful because the last thing he needed was another person asking what happened.
When it came to the girl applying the paste all he could think about was how her soft hands gently applied it to his cheek muttering apologies as he hissed from the sting.
But if he was being honest the butterflies in his stomach distracted him more.
He didn't realize until she was done that he had been admiring her face. Staring mostly at her darker aqua marking that were scattered framing your face, and the bioluminescent freckles sprinkled all over. How her hair was done in traditional Metkayina style (picture whatever you like) and it complemented her well.
Ao'nung snaps out of his thoughts and comes to a halt as you both stand in front of your empty Marui.
"Thank you, I'm sorry for causing you trouble.. I can just say that I'm busy tomorrow so I don't have to hang out with you" You say thanking him as you shyly stare at the ground.
While Ao'nung wanted to tell you 'no don't be! I actually want to hang out with you and get to know you' before he could think, all that came out was a
"Fnu" Ao'nung shouted and it came out a lot harsher than he meant. His eyes slightly widen with his ears lowering in embarrassment.
It made you jump a little taken back from how harsh his words came at you.
"Ngaytxoa. I'll see you tomorrow." Ao'nung said, this time in a softer voice. And with that he quickly walked away back to his Marui pod and you enter yours.
Yet another sigh of disappointment left your lips as you rub your face in frustration.
'Alone once again..'

I would really like to see Vicky's thought process throughout all this, like did she think she could strong arm Tristan into being a parent or did she genuinely hope that that the baby was tristan's?
WHAT WAS SHE THINKING?!?! 🙈
Tumblr media
Basically.. Vicky got jealous of Tilda and how much time Triss was spending with her/how willing he was to help out, so she gets this bright idea that he'll do the same for her if she were pregnant, completely ignoring the fact that he doesn't even fkin like her skdjsjdksk..
She stops taking the pill and tries extra hard to be "nice" and get Triss in bed.. but we all saw how successful that was, except the woman has needs you know.. 🙄 so ofc she sleeps around a little on the side, no big deal she thinks..
But now she's pregnant, Triss isn't happy about it after all and instead of being nice to her, he flips out, tells her she'd be a terrible mother then fucks off to Oscar's and completely ignores her.. AND she doesn't even know who the father is
She convinces herself that it MUST be Tristen's, it HAS to be.. except it's not, and now he's left her..... and since he managed to escape her for a lil while, he's also clean which is DISASTROUS because now she can't even cajole him into sticking around 😩
What was she thinking?? Uh.. she wasn't! I'd like to say she had this whole scheme planned out or smth interesting up her sleeve but she's just a fkin idiot.. she doesn't even like or want kids and deep down she KNEW Triss didn't love her so this "plan" of hers was completely ridiculous... She's right in that he would've felt some kind of duty towards the kid if it was his though, but I rlly don't think he would've stayed with her.. I actually think if it were his he'd either wanna fight for sole custody (which he'd fail miserably at cos he's an unemployed addict and her parents are posh and wealthy enough for good lawyers 😞) OR he would've suggested adoption, which her parents wouldn't have agreed with either.. and she likes to stick on their side cos.. her allowance/inheritance u kno 🙄 so either way, the outcome would've been the same.. baby stuck being brought up by grandparents
She's far too petulant to admit that she was stupid though, so she'll run crying to her parents that Triss knocked her up and left her, they'll be manipulated into feeling sorry for her and I foresee that over time, she'll leave most if not all of the parenting up to them and carry on her own merry ways without any remorse or regret...... 😬
Although.. I think her parents might be a lil sus abt her story once the baby pops out cos @akitasimblr was right and the father issss...
Tumblr media
I'm ngl even I didn't know who the daddy was at first lmao.. but Triss got this sentiment so I think that answers our question (i also checked via mccc ahahakdksjd) 🙈

Li Susu, an immortal time travels 500 years into the past to prevent the ascension of the Devil god, who goes on to destroy the world in the future. It's a story of love and hate, good and evil, redemption and damnation. The characters are very well conceptualized and depicted beautifully by talented actors, stunning costumes, really good hair and makeup, and great cinematography. The amazing production and set design along with impressive visual effects and CGI really immerse the audience in the world of TTEOTM. This was a high budget drama and it shows... each and every frame of the drama, it feels lavish. If you are even a little bit interested go watch the first episode and l promise you'll be hooked and end up finishing the drama.
Now unto my spoiler filled thoughts:
I find it interesting that the typical backstory themes and some character arcs of the male lead and the female lead have been swapped here. The FL usually has a dead parent or abusive household or terrible luck and so on. The ML usually comes to the FL's rescue or stands up for her and so on. We all know that Tantai Jin is Disney Princess coded given his dead mother, abusive and neglectful upbringing and his animal telepathy powers. LSS both as Ye Xiwu and LSS repeatedly saves TTJ and stands for him. While TTJ also saves her many times, he does not get a chance to stand up for her because she usually takes care of herself and she is not suspected or wrongfully accused where she would need someone to support her. Also, TTJ basically became a part of LSS's family as her uncle took him under his wing and he promised to stay in Hengyang Sect with her in ep 35 before all hell breaks loose. And who can forget that LSS marks TTJ with her Phoenix mark, typical ML behavior.
Their romance is my ultimate enemies to lovers pairing. It has just the right amount of fighting, messiness, animosity and angst for me. I feel that other pairings don't have enough of it for me to consider them as an enemies-to-lovers couple. Their visuals, their chemistry, their acting and the story everything was so great. Who else has three epic weddings in one drama? I am still not able to move on from this couple and drama.
While the misunderstandings were obviously supposed to lead to a turning point in the story, I feel like it was in character for them to jump to conclusions and assume the worst without fully thinking things through and which then led to them acting rashly. I mean both TTJ and LSS had bad history between them so in the early stages of their relationship where their trust in each other was shaky, it's understandable that they were prone to misunderstandings. Also, they're both not good at communicating with each other. In the mortal arc, LSS was never fully honest with TTJ and they never addressed their past misdeeds properly (like OG Ye Xiwu was very cruel to TTJ and he never talked to her about it and just brushed it off). In the immortal arc, TTJ deceived LSS when he became the Devil God.
For the most part the story was gripping, progressed at a good pace and conveyed many themes that become apparent on rewatches. Though it was obvious that the last 5 episodes and the ending were rushed because the censorship rules changed as they went into production. This was one of those dramas that needed at least 5-10 more episodes to properly flesh out the story. It was a missed opportunity that we didn't get to see LSS ruling the Demon realm and Ami's antics.
Another victim of the decreased episode count is the arc of the second leads. Tbh, I wish that Pian Ran and Ye Qingyu were the SLs but I think I would have enjoyed seeing the complete character arc of Xiao Lin/Gongye Jiwu and Ye Bingchang/Mo Nv and the resolution between them. That said it was appalling that they didn't bring back Pian Ran and Ye Qingyu in the immortal arc. I really missed their dynamic with each other and with the main leads. It is disappointing that they didn't even get an open/ambiguous ending to give us some closure and satisfaction.
The actress did a phenomenal job in making us hate her as Ye Bingchang and Tian Huan. Those characters as villians really worked as they were in a way the ones who had the markings of the female lead (these characters at the start of their stories could easily be heroines in any other story) but they turn into villians. Tantai Minglang was a good, serviceable villian and the actor did a lot with how little he was given. Di Mian was selfish and manipulative traitor who was almost scarily competent. I mean he did achieve what he wanted by becoming the Devil God and opening the Tongbei formation. The point of Devil God as a villian is not his character and his motivations but rather he represents our inner demons and how each of us has the power to overcome them.
Out of all the dramas I've watched, only TTEOTM's entire OST is on my regular playlist to listen to. Every time I listen to "Let's be like this for 10,000 years", I feel the love and tragedy of Sang Jui and Ming Ye's story all over again. It's impressive that a song can make you relive those feelings and the story every time you listen to it. All the songs fit wonderfully in the scenes they're played over and also make us feel those emotions again when listening to them separately.
On my first watch, the dream arc felt a little out of place and jarring, which, in hindsight, was probably due to the fact that it was my first cdrama. Upon rewatch I've come to appreciate that it gives a look into the age of Gods and it shows that the Devil God was so powerful that to stop him the Gods had to sacrifice themselves and only Ming Ye was able to survive. The action sequences here are just magnificent to watch and they definitely seem movie level. It also serves as a warning to the audience, LSS and TTJ that they could also have a tragic end if they don't learn the lessons from it. Unfortunately, in the mortal arc they did have a tragic end. However, in the immortal arc, TTJ is able to learn from his experience as Ming Ye and succeeds in defeating the OG Devil God and becoming the Devil God himself with control over his own destiny.
One of the most prominent themes of the drama is redemption and that love and compassion are powerful enough to change a person's fate. The themes of Taoism and Buddhism are evoked throughout the drama. There are also many other minor themes like the food is used as a guesture kindness (when LSS first gives TTJ a proper meal), affection/care (when TTJ gave LSS the goose themed meal), love (when LSS gives badly cooked meals to TTJ), betrayal and trickery (the poisoned porridge) and comraderie, friendship, brotherhood and familial love (when TTJ shares meals with his sect brothers and master). Both TTJ and LSS have dead moms, terrible fathers and great adoptive dads (Zhao You and Qu Xuan Zi), these are just some observations I made.
I may not love the ending but I don't hate it either as it was obvious to me that they reunite once again and live happily as a family (the audio ending really makes it clear). Even though I'm irritated we don't get to see it, I'm still satisfied that we get a hopeful ending rather than a tragic one.
Until now I've mostly been lurking in fandom spaces by liking and very rarely commenting and reblogging but never posting my own original post. The fact that my first ever post is on TTEOTM shows how much I love it. I'll probably be posting more TTEOTM analysis stuff so be on the look out for that if you're interested. Also, I welcome your recommendations as I'm still a newbie to cdramas and kdramas.
You can also check out my costumed cdrama rankings here.

How would you rank Jaehaerys and Alysanne’s children in terms of greatness/potential? For me, Baelon was best out their children with Saera being second. I also think Viserra was a waisted potential. I think she could have done interesting stuff had she lived. Do you think perhaps maybe Baelon should’ve married her after Alyssa’s death? Obviously, no one could replace Alyssa in his heart.
Hi there :)
I have already kind of answered this regarding my thoughts about Saera and Viserra and none of it is good. I will just link them here and here . Legit they are just portrayed as mean girls with no real depth to them, though of the two, Saera is much, much worse. Viserra I can at least sympathise with since her parents seem to not give half a f_ck about her and did not even extend to her the same courtesy they did her siblings of having a say about her marriage (more here), but that's about it. I don't find anything else likeable about her she's just... empty.
Tumblr media
I will go from least favourite to favourite.
Saera and Viserra go right to the bottom of my list. Followed very closely by Vaegon by obvious reasons. Like Vaegon, it literally costs you 0 golden dragons to not be so unlikable.
Tumblr media
Then I would say Daenerys, she has a lot of sweet moments but dies young so I don't really know how she would have turned out. Besides, I know it's petty of me, but I don't like other characters having Dany's name. I do like Daenerys, Naerys's daughter but... yeah no more. You don't need more Daenerys, we have our Mother of Dragons. Yes, I know I am petty.
Tumblr media
Then Gael because... poor baby 🥺 seriously what was George thinking writing a character who is Alysanne's comfort, with some degree of cognitive disability be r...... by some random singer, give birth, lose her baby, and kill herself?! Like enough's enough. It's literally just to add tragedy to her story and honestly Turtle man it's getting f:cking OLD. I swear this man gets his rocks off by adding tragedy and terrible abuse to female characters. This when he can bother to make them more than a walking womb.
Tumblr media
Then I would say Aemon. Maybe he would be higher but at times I just feel he's too perfect if that's a thing. There’s just nothing wrong with him like 😂 he literally does nothing wrong.
Tumblr media
Daella comes next because I find her funny. She's such a drama queen 24/7 making everyone around her want to protect her XD even Alyssa. I kind of got the vibes at times from her that she kind of knew what she was doing to get attention. Like the fact that she and Alyssa are Rhaenyra's grandmothers just makes so much sense no matter how you look at it. In a way Rhaenyra seems kind of a mixture of both? With tons of stubborn and style added. Another moment that really endeared me to Daella was her very tragic death, and how despite all her suffering she still wanted to be given Aemma and to feed her. Prime mom material right there -> like you can tell both from her and Alyssa that Rhaenyra got some top notch mom genes.
Tumblr media
Then Alyssa of course, because she was THE queen. Literally she was just a better behaved version of her son and I'm here for it! I love how despite the fact that she was clearly a tomboy she still wanted to marry Baelon and give him an army of kids X'D because these two things are not mutually exclusive and liking or enjoying traditional boy things does not have to say anything about your sexuality or your desire to be a mother - just like being very feminine and liking traditionally feminine activities does not have to say anything about your sexuality or desire to parent. These are rules a society that does not understand nuance and in a sense is deeply sexist and stereotypical likes to put in place and that I find deeply harmful to people. But Alyssa is the BOMB, so funny, so bold, the way she embarrassed Vaegon who was a little sh:t *chef's kiss*
Tumblr media
Then there's the best man ever -> Baelon Targaryen
Tumblr media
Had his own cool nickname, The Spring Prince, funny, charming, sexy, single dad who never once forgot about his lady with the mismatched eyes, entered a tourney under the name of the Silver Fool... I don't feel like a need to say more, and in an era where all men were literally so problematic, Baelon was IT.
Baelon is what this fandom thinks Corlys is. Sorry not sorry.
Tumblr media
And that's it :D
Also no, and more important that should Baelon remarry, the question is did he want to remarry? And the answer is no, and any Baelon fan would respect the Spring Prince and his undying love for his lady with the mismatched eyes <3

What is it with the fandom turning every female love interest for Buck or Eddie into a downright monster? (Long post, rant)
Abby? Basically groomed baby Buck, yucky, also she got his number the wrong way.
Shannon? Terrible mother, terrible wife, we need a restraining order.
Ali? What a bitch. She only used Buck and couldn't handle the real him.
Ana? Ableist homophobe, obsessed stalker, restraining order 2.0.
Taylor? Career bitch, will literally kill innocent babies to get on prime time tv.
Marisol? Stalker 2.0 apparently, also in an incest relationship with her brother, obviously.
Natalia? Hell no, way too obsessed with Buck's death experience, that's not healthy, it's basically abuse.
Like, Come on guys. Just say you hate women and be done with it. Buck is not a helpless baby, he is an adult who is capable of having consensual relationships and standing up for himself.
No, him and Abby were probably never gonna last, but I do think that they were good for each other at that point in their lives.
Ali was nothing but kind and supportive and ended up prioritising her own mental well being. Good for her!
Taylor always made it clear that her job mattered to her more than anything. Which Buck of all people should understand and he knew this from the moment he met her. Also he treated her like shit, this isn't Taylor's fault.
Natalia is an end of life doula. Of course she's interested to hear Buck's story and of course he's relieved that he doesn't have to walk on eggshells around her when talking about the lightning. Everyone else he knows was traumatised right with him, what's wrong with getting an outside perspective?
Also the entire fandom sometimes acts as if buddie were thee most perfect parents, but they're not. Eddie missed basically the first 4 entire years of Christopher's childhood.
Shannon may have made her mistakes, but so did Eddie. And when they reconnected, Eddie was the one who made a move on Shannon, not the other way around.
Ana was a very nice and thoughtful person and, don't yell at me, she wasn't entirely wrong about the skateboard incident. Christopher has cp. Most activities can be made accessible for him, but probably not everything. In this particular case Ana was proven wrong, but the point stands.
Marisol seems like a fun and witty person and she was only in a few scenes so far. Yet here we are and people are already talking shit about her.
I don't even know what to say honestly. For a fandom than claims to be so inclusive for having disabled and queer characters, characters of colour, found family dynamics and so on y'all sure are going heavy on the misogyny.

Omg I love your analysis they're THE BEST thing to read in freetime- like- they give such an insight to the story, it's always interesting!
Also can I just talk about Nene?!?! SHES SO COOL WJSJSJ ESPECIALLY IN THE RECENT CHAPTERS-
I've never been the type to hate characters or people unnecessarily. If I do dislike them, there's some reason or its just their vibe or attitude. The thing is I've never faced that with Nene. She has that childish type of personality with a sense of maturity we can say? Idk how to explain that- but she's so imaginative, and it makes me so sad how boys shoot her down because of her legs- SHES LEGIT SO PRETTY WHY- I also read that Nene analysis of yours as to why she's still being dreamy about boys when she was kissed by Hanako. Always makes me sad- MY GIRL DESERVES THE BEST-
The best thing about Nene is that she's determined and brave. Once she sets her mind on doing something, she actually manages to do it. Take that one panel for example with Nene and tsukasa, where she's getting chased by him and she swiftly ducks while that one thing hits him in the face. I always thought that was such a cool move. And I'm always so proud of seeing her go through character development. Who would believe that the Nene in the first chapter and the Nene in the recent chapters are the same- it's not even the personality change, it's the maturity level. I'm always screaming things like "SHES SO COOL SHES SUCH A GIRLBOSS" because she's IS one.
Man I'm one of hell of a Nene supporter, she's a bit naive but she's still mature enough. Makes me feel like we don't have the exact idea of what she feels most of the times. My girl has suffered in her own way.
I also really wanna know about her background! I'm pretty sure we haven't talked much about her parents right? I would love to see them sometime in the chapters since we already got mother reveal of kou, hanako and Mitsuba.
Awww thank you for your kindness ♡
I love it when you all say you like the posts hahaha because I love making them :3
How excited are you to talk about Nene! I liked it!
Hahaha I'm not the type to hate characters either, I like to appreciate every detail of their personality, even if they are terrible. Don't get me wrong, but I like to see whether a character is well constructed or not, regardless of whether he is a villain or a "hero", I will speak in these words so as not to prolong it.
Personally, I always thought that Yashiro was very wronged. I've seen many people saying that they don't feel affection for her because of the way she treats Hanako, in short, because she doesn't reciprocate Hanako's feelings in the same way or because she still feels attracted to other boys.
What happens is that Hanako has become the public's favorite, Nene is left out next to him, people will always care about him first. Damn, Nene was kissed by Tsukasa without her consent! Who did people focus on first?
Hanako, the poor boy crying inconsolably because his little brother kissed and kidnapped the girl he likes, but what about Yashiro? She was the one who was forcibly kissed, she was the one who was kidnapped. Baby Nene clearly shows how unhappy she is but no one seems to care!
"Look Yashiro is so annoying as a baby, Tsukasa is putting up with so much!"
But how did they want her to react???? She was kissed by force, she was kidnapped, she was forced to "play" with Tsukasa with the threat that he would rip off her arm (we don't know if he meant it literally because Tsukasa is Tsukasa, right) she had a part of her life stolen and is still being forced to remove the yorishiros even though she knows that if she does so she will die.
And people still expect her to react well to this? Can you understand how wronged Yashiro is? I really like the characters but I like to be fair to everyone, EVERYONE.
Yashiro has a very strong comedic side, so many bad things that happen to her end up going that way, people find it funny or think she is doing something wrong and everything bad that happens to her is because she deserves it. This is complicated, because it shows how people are failing to understand how she is developing in the story.
I'm glad you brought up Yashiro, because you were literally the first person who asked about her without having anything to do with Hanako. She is one of the protagonists and almost no one sees the potential she has. Yashiro has all these qualities you mentioned.
Yashiro is brave and protective, how many times have you seen her protecting Hanako?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
She is selfless and Hanako knows that, he hid that he was going to sacrifice Aoi because he knew she would be against it, she went there not only to find Hanako, but also so that her best friend would stay alive. Yashiro took the blame in Hanako's place, since this was all his idea.
As well-intentioned as he was with Nene, it wasn't the right way. And since Hanako was unable to fulfill Nene's wish of prolonging her own life, she gives herself up for good, even though she doesn't really want to die. This arc in number 6 shows how selfless Yashiro is, she didn't have a grudge against Aoi when she threw her into that pit, she didn't tell Hanako that Sumire was a yorishiro because she knew he was going to tell her to remove it, she asked Hanako letting Sumire leave the village with them so she could have a new life, she refused until the end to remove Sumire's seal, do I need to list more than that?
Sumire herself says that Yashiro is too good to be able to remove the seal. Sakura had to show her what happened because Nene didn't remove the seal and Nene deeply regretted it because she didn't know it would end like this.
But people are worried because Yashiro thinks other boys are cute….
The girl went to a ghost as a last solution to find a handsome boyfriend to PROVE to the other guys who rejected her that she is also attractive. Her self-esteem is low, there is always someone making fun of her legs that she suffers so much and is insecure about, she is not envious of Aoi, even though her best friend is so beautiful and almost all the guys are interested in her.
Just put yourself in her shoes, can you imagine having to go and beg a supernatural person to have a boyfriend? She's always trying to learn things that boys like just so they'll look at her. Yashiro has his own problems, his own complexes and pains. I think it's sad that people haven't realized this.
She's developing, she's in love for the first time in her life, and her first love is a ghost boy who won't be able to offer her what a human can. But she insisted, didn't she? She is learning that looks are not everything, that there are many boys out there who think she is beautiful but she doesn't care because she wants to prove to people that even though she has those legs, she is still attractive, the way she finds to do that is thus.
Of course Yashiro has her bad sides, and that's a good thing. What kind of character would she be if she were perfect? The important thing is not for the character to be good all the time, but rather to make a lot of mistakes and learn from those mistakes. This is how a well-constructed character works. I see her development, she said she wouldn't get involved with someone who wasn't her type, but look who she's in love with. And now she takes over. You understand?
We see Yashiro's weaknesses all the time, and we're seeing her develop too. I think the main problem for people not to notice this is precisely the "comic" factor, you see, when they talk about Hanako's past, we have that air of seriousness, of sadness, that heavy air.
When it comes to talking about how Yashiro feels about boys, self-esteem, her legs, or how she feels about having to change to attract boys or something like that, it always has that "comical" air.
Look, she hates being called radish legs, let's call her that, it's funny. Have you ever imagined if people spent the whole time making jokes about the characteristic that you are most insecure about yourself?
It's funny when it's with others? But imagine if they made fun of Hanako or judged him all the time for killing his brother?
It wouldn't be nice, would it?
People get angry because Yashiro says Hanako isn't her type or when she comically refuses his advances, and they still get angry because poor Hanako can't be rejected by her.
Did you see the difference?
Hanako can make fun of Yashiro, call her a radish, everyone laughs, but Nene can't refuse Hanako's flirtations, because she doesn't deserve the love he offers her. Hahaha it's really funny when you clearly see who people's favorite is. That's because I didn't even mention him wanting to imprison her in a false world, or sacrifice her best friend… It doesn't matter, they will always find justifications for Hanako's actions.
Look, I love Hanako a lot, but we have to face the reality of the facts, imagine this in the real world. The boy you like wants to kill your best friend to save you. Do you understand how dangerous this is? People forget that Hanako is a dangerously charismatic boy, his attitudes send off a very high red alert, what he does is not justifiable, as he himself says! He knows this, the public has to understand it too!
Hanako has good intentions, he wants to save the girl he loves, but he goes about it the wrong way!!!
Saving someone's life by killing another???? Is this right?
But, to be completely fair, what bothers me most about Yashiro is that she still remains "friends" with Teru. It doesn't make sense after everything that has happened in these recent events. At this point I hope she wakes up and stops letting him hang around, and of course, stops flirting with him too, although Yashiro does this to make Hanako jealous, did you notice that? I hope so haha
Anyway, I thought the answer would be shorter hahaha but I was really excited to finally have a question about Yashiro! \O/
Yes! I'm curious to know about her family, she is a Kannagi and has unique powers, she can remove seals and purify. It means we'll learn more about her past in the future! I agree with you, I also really like Yashiro, one of the female characters that I find most fun.
I hope people give her more chances. She is a good girl who has her flaws but also her own qualities, like anyone else in the world hahah
I hope you liked it! Thanks for the ask! ♡

I was a bit iffy about episodes six and seven of the Percy Jackson series, but episode eight is truly phenomenal!!
It makes Percy’s fight for the gods more believable, and makes Poseidon so much better of a father than he was in the books!
Read below for more detailed thoughts on it:
To start, I do think the Ares fight was a bit too short and didn’t show Percy’s power enough, but maybe they’re saving it for future seasons. I was expecting a hurricane, rather than just one tidal wave. I did, however, like how they showed a little bit more of the gods as Gods rather than just adults, such as Ares turning into his godly form, and Zeus’ bolt and Poseidon saving Percy.
That whole scene with Percy, Poseidon, and Zeus was absolutely incredible. It’s such a terrible shame that we’ve lost Lance Reddick, because he was a phenomenally terrifying Zeus. Toby Stephens, like literally everyone else in the show, is perfectly cast, and even though looks aren’t a facet in this series you can see the family resemblance- it really looks like he and Sally are Percy’s parents. Poseidon has so much more pathos than he does in the original series and he does truly care for his kid- that conversation started STRAIGHT OUT of the books, and the added dialogue was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once. Poor Percy :( Poseidon, unlike the books, seems to truly go to bat for his son and stand behind him rather than vaguely supporting him.
That contrast really strengthens the scene where Percy figures out that Luke is working with Kronos- I like that Luke still trying to convince Percy to join him. However, Percy has seen that, although yes, the gods are petty and mean and treat humans like insects, they can also truly be kind and caring. Sidenote, the fireworks were absolutely PERFECT as a backdrop to that whole scene, and I love that they had Annabeth eavesdropping because it had to hit her hard. Also Backbiter being able to make portals is a good way to explain how Luke is everywhere in the books lol
I also really like this episode was so Percy centered, although I love love love the trio it was great to see Percy’s story, because after all, it’s his journey. He’s stubborn, he’s loyal to a fault, he’s courageous, he’s smart, he loves his mother, and he always does what he believes is right, and THAT is Percy Jackson.
And after all of it, it comes back to Percy and Sally. Percy has always been devoted to his mother, and I’m so glad that we got those scenes of them at the end. Sally is awesome- although she didn’t end up committing murder like she did in the original season and yet Gabe still ended up as a statue lol
I find it interesting how they’re going with Annabeth and this sheltered angle in the show- in the books she had seen movies before- she had seen “Roman Holiday” and I’m sure she knew what a theme park was so for her to not know what Disneyland is was interesting. However, one of my previous complaints was that the trio couldn’t just be kids in the Lotus Casino episode, so when Percy told Annabeth to just focus on being a kid, that made me happy because that’s what I wanted for them in the first place cause these are only 12-year-olds. Also, the searchers’ license being a flower was awesome.
I also selfishly do wish we got a little bit more between Percy fighting Luke and the end of the summer- did Percy just avoid Clarisse? It probably isn’t like him to apologize (Altho he did apologize after swiping Luke who was trying to KILL HIM to be fair). I also don’t really agree with Percy passing the deadlinex because I think it would’ve been just as impactful if they were still gathering forces for the war before the deadline and it still happens like it did, however, it was interesting to see Mount Olympus, deserted, except for Zeus, because everyone was preparing for war.
I can’t believe this book series that I’ve adored since I was a kid is finally being brought to life in such a wonderful manner! While not perfect, this is a phenomenal adaptation and I’m so happy that so many kids and people get to experience this wonderful series for the first time. It is fundamentally different from the book, but the underlying message and morals are still the same and that’s what really matters. Thank you to the whole cast and crew for this amazing show!

I’m such a big Targ fan but I can not stand most Targ fans because they don’t get it. The valyrians are interesting and cool because they are fucked up. I love the Targaryens because I am a horror and sci-fi fan. Like yeah dragons are cool too but they wouldn’t be nearly as cool if everything surrounding them weren’t horrifying and twisted. I love Dany because she is a flawed and complex character and it is so easy to draw lines through her narrative to understand why she is the way she is and what led her to make different mistakes and how she got to her self delusions. But most Dany fans will call me a Dany hater for being like hey let’s analyze why Dany has never second guessed her decision to kill Mirri even though every other act of violence she’s been directly or indirectly responsible for (ie the crucifixions or Viserys’s death) has weighed on her conscience to some extent despite the fact that Mirri was a slave who was punished for rising up against her master, Drogo. The cognitive dissonance is so interesting and ripe for analysis but I have been accused of only pretending to be a Dany fan for recognizing this. A lot of actual Dany haters churn out way more meaningful Dany metas because most Dany fans are just oh she’s an unambiguous good hero who will be queen and I think that’s so boring
(note I got off my couch in the middle of writing a new chapter to go to my main computer to answer this that's how much you caught my attention)
The thing is, I totally get what you mean. Theres a Targaryean I am sort of like this for in a way. The character himself has been soured by such a deluded and hostile fan base about what is allowed to be said or thought about him, but if it weren't for the way most targ stans are, I would be 1000% more into Rhaegar as a character.
It would never change I think he's a bad person who did monstrous things for questionable if not quite selfish means who I would never support, but I also love Euron Greyjoy who is 100% an irredeemable monster. Rhaegar's entire existence is fasnicating. From the Ghost of High Hart being the reason his parents were married, to his life defining birth right in the middle of the fiery tragedy of Summerhall which effected his life. How such a terrible place was the only place he was every described as being happy in, likely because his existence is tied with great tragedy. How that likely deeply influenced him into buying into the Ghost of High Harts words of the prince that was promised being born from his father and mothers blood line which led to his delusions which ended up negatively impacting every person in his life leading to their deaths including his own. He should be a fascinating character study for me, but the way targ stans talk about him has ruined any chance of discussion because any nuance I could provide is going to be taken as pro Rhaegar talking points.
Same with Valyria in general. The Valyrian people were delusional and terrifying and the world is better off without them, but I love exploring why. I don't hate Targaryeans to hate them, I hate them because they are interesting to hate. They are facsinating because of what makes them horrible. And liking them as characters isn't at all wrong.
Its the lack of willingness to engage with their favourite charatcers greatest flaws and realistic motivations. It's a disconnect. They will push back against every single argument that Dany is a horrible, selfish tyrant possible, and then cite her atrocities as why I'm wrong and it's like..they have bought so much into the propoganda that they have created a false image of this character they supposedly love. Why love a version of a character that you need to bend over backwards to justify is the real version against the facts of the actual story?
They are desperate to look as if their favourite characters make them morally righteous. When liking a morally honourable character does not say anything about you other then what particular character you enjoy more then another. I am not claiming to be better then Rhaegar stans because I love Ned Stark, but they will slander Ned Stark as much as they can to justify why they prefer Rhaegar instead of just admitting they have a preference.
I get accused of being a Sansa hater, because I am both very against jonsa (ship and shippers) and I am very critical of her post season 4 character. But in the books and the first 4 seasons, shes not my favourite but I love her. But because I go against the popular ship and I am critical of her various actions over the course of the different versions of her character, I am seen as a hater. Its the same with Dany and many Targaryeans.
Its either toe the public opinion, or keep them out of your mouth which is insane for a fandom of a story literally built upon the varying complexities of a characters grey areas.
They want asoiaf/got to be way more black and white then it ever has been. Which is such a poor way of interacting with a story you are passionate about.
Dany can be a tyrant and an interesting character. She can be a cruel and selfishly bloodthristy woman and your favourite character. But these stans are allergic to those ideas not being mutually exclusive.
I dont hate targ stans because they are targ stans, I hate targ stans because they will attack any dissenting opinons that do not fall into their perfect protagonist hero image they've conjured up.
But they got nothing on me. I love Euron Greyjoy. The most disgusting monster in the whole series who I also would rather slingshot him into the sun then let him walk around alive in the world. I will never defend his bad choices, and never condemn someone for calling him an immoral monster. His lack of humanity is what makes his choices so interesting.
These targ stans though, could not possibly be strong enough to be the same for even a minute for their favourite Targaryean.

Interested in your perception of Julia Baird’s portrait or Mimi vs more common narrative that Mimi rescued John from his mother Julia’s irresponsible parenting. I go back and forth between vilifying Mimi and considering that it might have been a challenging situation if Julia Baird’s dad was alcoholic and didn’t want John around. Although I lean towards holding Mimi accountable for getting social services involved to take away Julia’s custody rights….
First off: obligatory "It was a different time", except I do want to emphasize it, because it's not only to contextualize some of Mimi's behaviour that a lot of people might classify as emotional abuse nowadays, but because it affects literally all of this. Social mores dictated the actions not just of Mimi but of all the Stanley sisters, who in my view all enabled the situation to get as far as it did. And, most pertinently, I don't think people at the time really understood how damaging it is to all parties to separate a child from their parents (and tbh, especially their mother). My main takeaway from the whole situation, as well as what I've learned about "difficult homes" since, is that taking John away from Julia should have been an absolute last resort, unless there was extremely concrete evidence that Julia was being highly abusive towards him.
(and I do mean highly abusive. It, for instance, would not have done Paul and Mike any good to be separated from their father, even if Jim put them through hell at times [though of course, the extent of the abuse they suffered is debatable]. These situations are terrible all-around, but from what I can tell – and what I think John's story shows – breaking apart families is very rarely the best course of action.)
"But Julia was making little John share a bed with her and Bobby Dykins!" – okay, I see how this is potentially a problem, though it's from what I can tell entirely (implied? I don't know that she went so far as to say it out loud) conjecture on Mimi's part that John was made to witness adults having sex. In my opinion, the first course of action here should have been to help Julia out by acquiring a separate bed for John.
I recognize that Julia was probably often irresponsible and, from what I've read about her, I suspect she at times struggled with parenting in way similar to how John would later on – not due to a lack of love, per se, more due to a helplessness in the face of the true burden of taking care of someone and a difficulty comprehending the seriousness and scope of child-rearing. That being said, it's hard to fully blame her when she had her toddler taken away – because of her own sister, as you mention – and had to give up her second baby for adoption. That's twice-over the worst trauma a mother could endure* so it seems natural to me that she would have attachment issues with John later on. Again, helping Julia with her parenting instead of denying her the role of mother seems to me the best course of action here. (Oh look, it's my nuclear family take rearing its head again.)
*some people happily give up babies – I don't have much reason to believe Julia was one of them.
I also think Mimi thought she was doing the right thing and her decision to take John in admittedly made more sense when Uncle George was still alive. This is where the "It was a different time" comes back in, because it would be unfair of me to expect her to understand all the complexity I've been describing. I don't know that I believe Julia Baird's claim that Mimi instigated the entire situation so she could have John for herself – but there is perhaps a middle ground here, where Mimi loved her nephew a lot, felt no one was taking care of him the way she believed he needed, and let that blind her to the damage she was going to inflict by interfering the way she did.
It's difficult to fully assess Mimi's impact on John, because it seems the abandonment issues his early childhood instilled in him made him particularly loyal to her. Mimi was, if nothing else and above all, steadfast. (You can draw a parallel here to Yoko, though that's another discussion.) You aren't gonna find a ton of statements from him condemning her, and I definitely don't want to discount the genuine love they both had for each other. I appreciate that she didn't have an easy task, bringing him up, especially after being widowed, and I appreciate that she came through for him in significant ways.
The thing that motivated my (somewhat callous) post last night, was this:
"You wonder why John didn't have the strength to just say 'Look Mimi, I'm moving in with Mum.'" JULIA BAIRD: "Hm. Well, I remember the– a particular row in the kitchen, where he was going back [to Mendips] after the school holidays and he was crying. And my father [Bobby Dykins] said 'That's it. That's it. I've had enough. You stay here. I'll go and see Mimi. I will sort this out once and for all.' And John said 'Nononono, nonono. I've got to go. Don't tell Mimi.' That was another refrain [?]. 'My dream's out.' and 'Don't tell Mimi. Don't tell Mimi, don't tell Mimi.' She was fearsome, I can tell you. Fearsome." SOURCE: I am the Eggpod, Episode 100, 00:49:49
What I hate about the above quote the most is how often John, even as a teen, is conceptualized as this free-spirited rebel*; but looking at this, it hits extra hard that he was a child who had virtually no power in this situation the adults around him put him in.
*and writers like Mark Lewisohn are definitely not off the hook here; one of the things I find the most questionable about him as a biographer is that, despite his painfully obvious bias towards John, he still fails to contextualize huge chunks of John's childhood, preferring to defend Mimi at all cost.
Now, it does seem like there's some he-said/she-said going on regarding how much Bobby Dykins and John got along. I don't think John spoke super highly of him, but I also don't recall him expressing any larger issues with his pseudo step-father. Yes, Julia Baird is probably biased towards her own parents, but here's the thing: don't most of our pro-Mimi accounts come from her? Is John an unbiased source on the aunt who raised him?
So why should Julia Baird – whom I consider to be one of the most empathetic characters involved in Beatles history; rarely have I seen someone so interested in truly understanding their own family history, considering the cultural context, tying in her experience as a teacher in special needs and talking to multiple people to gain a fuller picture, even when a lot of it must've been incredibly painful for her – be seen as a less trustworthy source than Mimi – who we know has a history of editing stories to suit her:
I [Hunter Davies, the Beatles' official biographer] sent [the manuscript of the biography] to Mimi and she had hysterics. The chapter about his childhood came back with almost every paragraph heavily crossed out or amended. In the margins she had written beside John's own quotes such things as 'Rubbish', 'Never!' She denied so many of John's own memories of his childhood, especially if they contradicted her memories of the same people or events. She was against his use of bad language, as she maintained John had never sworn when he was little, and didn't want stories about him stealing. SOURCE: The Beatles by Hunter Davies, 2009 Introduction
The only thing Mimi has "going for her" as a source is that she was an adult and not a child when these events transpired. I think that's fair enough, and I do believe there are details to this story Julia Baird and we the public will never know, which made Mimi's decisions seem more justified to her and to her family. But that doesn't stop me from largely condemning most of the decisions made, even though I suspect Julia did at least on the surface agree with them.

I thought about ignoring all the anon hate you have been getting but frankly it's insane.
There is nothing wrong with associating baela rhaena with their mothers house. Baela especially who has been living on driftmark with rhaenys for many years. It's clear that she is being groomed by rhaenys to be her choice of successor to driftmark. I think the show did a terrible job in not letting baela atleast feel upset at dinner for how vaemond was treated because she definitely might have had a relationship with him if she was rhaenys intern and as they are family.
Now, rhaena i think she may get disillusioned with the targ side of her family, because daemon ignores her and rhaenyra just used her to keep her own sons legitimacy safe and she does infact go and marry a hightower. To marry a family her father hates is certainly interesting.
Infact while both girls are equally targaryen and velaryon i feel they tend to be associate themselves with their mothers house more. Especially if you look at how their story goes.
Also of the hightowers there is no reason to ignore their hightowerness. But as they are grandchildren of a second son who is not at all in succession to old town but are direct successor to targaryens they are more targ coded. This is except for daeron who is definitely more hightower than targ solely because he like baela is raised amongst his mother's house and learns their customs and traditions first hand.
Tldr: anyways it's not that deep. And people need to understand both parents are relevant and wait for the rest of the show to determine which house they actually are more like. And stop calling real people terrible words over fictional people. You guys need to stop being chronically online.
Thank you! This sums it up perfectly anon

DC Comics Asks
@paladin-of-nerd-fandom65
3. First comic read?
The 1st paperback edition of the New 52 Harley Quinn comic book
4. What introduced you to the DC universe? Was it a show, comic, or movie?
I'm not so sure since I was so young, but I think the Teen Titans 2003 cartoon was what got me way more invested in the DC world as a kid since I loved watching it so much and still do
24. If you had total control, what you change?
1. Deage Jon back to being a kid, because he should've been allowed to grow up naturally and honestly deserves the character development that he should've gotten before in the past, and also because it was terrible that he just got ripped away from his original fans like that just because Bendis wanted to make him date Saturn girl (instead of finding someone else who was actually her age, since Jon was STILL JUST 10 years old at the time when he had thought of this ship for her, which is very EW!!) and didn't want a kid character getting in the way of his Superman stories because "it's not that fun to include them", which makes no sense, because he was literally so much more likeable and way more interesting as a kid than he is now, because as an adult, now he just feels like a completely different person and a boring character that many old fans just can't see as the real Jon anymore, even if they tried to, since he's more like a stranger now. He's just a plain, younger clone of Clark now with no real personality of his own in him (he doesn't even have his own style!!!)
2. Make Dickkory happen again and leave Dickbabs behind, because that relationship is just a forced one that DC only wants to happen just so that things can only stay in the Batfamily. But Dickkory is the one that actually has real love in it and a much deeper connection in it between the two. Plus those two are always crazy about eachother, way more than Barbara and Dick could ever be for one another. And I would also make baby Mar'i and Jake happen later on in the future too. Also, the trope that always happens with either Dick or Kory abandoning the other and the kids or dying everytime they finally have a family of their own needs to just stop, because they deserve to be happy together already after such a long time and I would make sure that it stays that way too
3. Make Bruce an actual good father, because #1 it is not cool at all and I do not ever enjoy seeing him treat any of his kids horribly, it just only makes me really irritated to see everytime and #2 it does not make sense for who he is actually meant to be as a character. It doesn't matter how many times writers will make it happen in canon, because that just means that they don't actually know him at all and only think he would do it just because "Oh, he's a dark, edgy man who gets angry at everything, so he must be such a horrible Father too.", which is not how he should be. There should never be anything so wrong about letting him be good Dad to his kids. There's always other ways to create a bunch of drama for Batfamily stories, but him being an abusive parent definitely shouldn't be one of them and if some DC writer thinks it is, than that just means they can't really think outside of the box
4. Stop the "Talia is an evil person who loves killing and is also a terrible Mother who tortures her kid with no mercy if they don't do what she wants" trope, because she originally doesn't actually agree with her Fathers ways at all and has always felt uncomfortable with having to be an assassin who takes lives, and another thing about her original character is that she's also a very loving person at heart and would never want to hurt the ones that she loves, so it doesn't make any sense for her to be a cruel and hateful parent who hurts and uses her Son for only whatever she wants
5. Keep the name "Kon". I heard that Conner is getting a new official name change for himself soon in his series, so he's ditching "Kon" now for something else just because "Clark was the one who gave it to him, but he didn't actually choose it himself, so it's not his", but like... HELLO????!! The writer definitely did not read any of his older books at all, because Kon was literally so happy when Clark offered it to him, because he finally felt accepted into the Superfamily that way and even cried tears of joy from it too if I remember correctly, so what the heck are they changing it for if he actually loves it and originally has no problems with it????
6. Revive Alfred, because to me, he is an iconic character that shouldn't be killed, because then nothing ever really feels the same again without him
7. Batgirl was cool for Barbara back then, especially because she was still young at that time, but I would make her Oracle again because it's just a definitely more fitting role for her nowadays
8. Keep more awesome Supersons stories happening again, because they're always a joy to read and also because I really miss them a lot
Idk if I have anymore ideas in mind for anything else😅 but this is everything for now that I would definitely change if I could
Thanks for the ask, Pal!!

It starts off nostalgic until some unresolved family issues along with an assortment of spouses, exes, and might-have-beens make things even more interesting.
A/N: This was meant to be a flashback insert for the actual next chapter of Scions but...things got out of hand, per usual 🤡 Anyway, a bunch of medical terms mentioned here. I am no expert--I just pulled a lot from my own birthing experience. If you’re in the medical field, I apologize for any inaccuracies! This also starts off on one scene from Scions 6 (when Joon rushes out).
Terms: Braxton-Hicks contractions. Also known as prodromal or false labor pains, are contractions of the uterus that typically are not felt until the second or third trimester of the pregnancy.
NICU. A neonatal intensive care unit, also known as an intensive care nursery, is an intensive care unit specializing in the care of ill or premature newborn infants.
Preeclampsia. A serious condition during pregnancy. Signs of preeclampsia are high blood pressure, protein in your urine and swelling.
VBAC. Acronym for vaginal birth after Cesarean.

Days ago, Namjoon sat on a park bench overlooking the lake while he contemplated Victoria's news.
I’m here to let you know that I’m keeping it…You can be as involved as you want…or not.
Then he thought back to their conversation at the driveway before she left to return to the hotel.
“What does Jax think of all this?” Namjoon asked.
“I mean…” Victoria paused to let out an uncomfortable breath, “I don’t really expect anything from him. But you know, he’s…surprisingly supportive about the whole situation.”
Namjoon laughed bitterly. “Wow, supportive,” he repeats mockingly.
“Namjoon, please,” she begged. “I’m not here to argue or anything like that. I know that you wanted a clean break–I’m sorry that I fucked that up with this,” she gestured at her abdomen.
“I just thought that you had a right to know. And…frankly, when I heard about your dad…I thought that he could use…I don’t know, some light in the darkness? He treated me like his own daughter…more than my own dad,” she added.
Namjoon threw his head back and sighed. Even though his mom had reservations about Vee when he first brought her to his hometown, his dad had always been welcoming.
“Listen, if you want to talk some more about…I don’t know, logistics, about…the baby, living arrangements…I’m staying at the Hilton, room 912. I’ll be around…you know, until–” she stopped short of saying ‘until your dad passes on.’ She shook her head and instead said, “Just call me.”
Namjoon buried his head in his hands. He felt lost and confused. This was a less-than-ideal situation.
When he and Vee met, they seemed to have settled on the fact that neither of them had a strong desire to have children.
I wouldn’t even know where to begin to parent a kid since my own parents were never there for me. Why would I subject an innocent child to that, was what she used to say.
And he would respond with, I don’t think I’m equipped to be a parent. Plus, my mom and I always had trouble getting along…I was such a bad kid.
It wasn’t until after Jooni was born that things took an interesting turn for them.

“Oppa! Watch out!”
Namjoon narrowly avoids a cyclist, while he rushes through the city streets to get YN to the hospital. The day started off mundanely enough…oh, and it was also his birthday!
Victoria was in meetings most of the day but she made dinner reservations at their favorite restaurant to celebrate. YN decided to surprise Namjoon at his workplace right before lunchtime to bring him miyeokguk and a small cake.
As soon as he blew out the candles, she nearly dropped the cake when she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen.
This was her second pregnancy and she’s said a few times that it’s been more challenging than the first. On top of preeclampsia, she would feel waves of Braxton Hicks contractions–not that he would know much about that but by the way she sucked in sharp breaths at times and releasing them with near-guttural groans, he deduced that they were pretty bad.
The one that she got in Namjoon’s studio had her doubled-over in pain. She was only a day shy of 35 weeks.
“You’ll ruin your perfect driving record,” she gasped in between breaths.
“Do you really think that I care about that now while you’re going into early labor in my car?”
******
“I know, I know…it’s not time yet but…” YN paused to let out a deep breath as another contraction rolled. Once the pain had passed, she turned back to reassure Sam on the phone.
“I’m sure they’ll still let me do the C-section. It’s too risky for a VBAC with my medical history…I know, I know…I’m okay. Namjoon-oppa drove me here and I talked to Joobin's teacher to let her know that Vee will pick him up around 5…Okay. Have a safe flight, yeobo. I’ll see you soon…Love you, too.”
As soon as she get off the phone with Sam, Namjoon comes back into the room. He was visibly annoyed.
He curses under his breath. “Why is it so difficult to get a nurse in here?”
She sighed and rested her hand on her stomach instinctively. “Joon, calm down.” She was in a meditative state, her deep breathing rocking the baby in her belly. “Someone will be here soon. And I just heard back from my doctor. She’s finishing up with another patient then hauling ass over here from the clinic.”
Namjoon nods, momentarily calming down until he catches a glimpse of one of the monitors that showed her blood pressure reading.
“Jesus–your blood pressure is crazy! Are you sure you feel fine? It’s at–”
“Oppaaa…” she drag out with her eyes closed, “I am fully aware and I don’t need to know what the reading is. It doesn’t help me.” She puffed her cheeks and let out another deep breath. “I feel fine…with the exception of…mmmppfff…the pain,” she groaned.
Just then, one of the nurses who hooked her up to an I.V. returns with an attending to check her vitals and how everything was progressing. The doctor introduces themself as Dr. Shin before lifting up the sheet to check how far along she was. The action completely takes Namjoon by surprise as he instantly turns his head away.
“Woah–doc, can you at least give me a warning before you do that?” He exclaimed, trying to shield his eyes with his hand.
“It’s not like it’s anything you haven’t seen before,” the doctor says.
“Uhm–he’s not the dad, doctor,” the nurse corrects.
“He’s my brother,” YN says.
“Yes and I have no plans on seeing what goes on down there as far as my sister is concerned,” he added uncomfortably, making YN laugh.
After a quick apology, the doctor finishes the pelvic exam and says, “Alright, so–looks like you’re at 5 centimeters. We can give you the epidural now.”
“Uhm…” she hesitated, “I’m actually waiting for my doctor. She said that she was on her way here from the clinic. This is my second baby and I’m supposed to have a scheduled C-section–I don’t know if they filled you in–”
His eyes widened as if finally realizing something. “Ahhh, yes–I’m sorry. You’re Dr. Kwan’s patient, right?”
“Yes,” YN smiled nervously.
“So, I don’t know how long ago you spoke because she just paged me before I came in here to say that her current patient’s case is a bit more complicated…” he explains, “I’m afraid you’re stuck with me,” the doctor grimaced.
YN’s face falters with the thought of not having her doctor by her side. Most women who gave birth typically had whoever was on-call deliver their baby and she got lucky with Joobin the first time as Dr. Kwan called her in to be induced the next day on account of her being overdue by a week.
She didn’t think she’d go into early labor since Joobin was late. But this little girl–who has yet to be named–is impatient to make her debut.
Dr. Shin is reassuring. “Don’t worry–we’ll prep you for your C-section very soon. I’ll call the anesthesiologist to get you an epidural instead of the spinal block since you went into labor. That takes care of the pain you’re feeling for now and we’ll top you off once we get to the OR. Sound good?”
After a beat, YN nodded.
The doctor then turns his attention to Namjoon. “I don’t think you’ll want to be in the room while she gets the epidural,” he says in a considerate tone.
Namjoon shoots a glance at her and she shakes her head at him. “Yeah, no. It’s best that you don’t see all that.” He recalled Sam saying something about turning green while he watched them stick a big needle into her spine.
******
Namjoon steps out of the hospital room to call and check in on Victoria and Joobin.
“Hey, baby.”
“Hey…how is she?”
“They’re doing the epidural right now. The nurse said that it’s something that might traumatize me so I’m out here in the hallway waiting for my mom to get here. How are you and little man doing?”
“Oh, we’re good right now. I got him a Happy Meal on our way home, so he’s pretty content,” she laughed.
Namjoon chuckled into the phone. “When do I get my Happy Meal from you?”
Vee laughs on the other line then lowers her voice. “I thought I always gave you a Happy Meal?”
A tired laugh rumbled from his chest. “Yeah, but it’s my birthday,” he teases.
She crooned into the phone. “Fine. I’ll make it extra happy for you when you get home tonight.”
Namjoon grins, even though he’s unsure of what time he’s getting out of the hospital. Then, he hears Joobin in the background. “Auntie Vee, can I talk to my mommy?”
Vee murmurs something back to Joobin in response before letting Namjoon know that she was switching her phone’s audio to speaker mode.
“Hey, buddy. Mommy’s resting right now but as soon as she wakes up, I’ll give Auntie Vee a call back so you can say ‘hi,’ okay?”
Joobin agrees and Vee tells Namjoon that returned to playing with his action figures.
Vee didn’t usually like interacting with kids. She tried to avoid them at all costs. When Joobin was born, she didn’t care much for him at first. But she surprisingly took to him, little by little.
She wanted to hold him and didn’t mind giving him a bottle. She actually liked being around him, especially when he got older. Still, he considered it a huge ask for her to pick up Joobin to watch him for a few hours since there was no time to get a sitter.
Namjoon was about to speak but stopped short when he saw his mom rushing down the hallway. She happened to have a meeting with her agent closeby and drove to the hospital as soon as she was done.
“Baby, I’ll call you in a bit. My mom just got here. Thanks again for taking Joobin. I love you!”
“Just keep me posted okay? Love you, too,” she signs off.
“Hi, sweetheart.” His mom greets him with a hug. “What a birthday for you, huh?”
“Thanks,” he says wryly.
“How’s she doing?”
He shrugged. “Better now, I think. She seems happier since they’re giving her something for the pain. They said it was better for me to wait out here.”
“Oh, good. I’m guessing they warned you about fainting?”
Namjoon nodded. “And they told me that if I passed out that they would just leave me there.”
She chuckled. “Well, they don’t care about the men because their priority is the mom. Besides, if you happen to faint, you’ll wake up on your own eventually. No harm done!”
She pats his cheek gently before she walks into the room.
*****
Namjoon fully intended to go home but after YN was prepped for surgery and the nurses started to wheel her into the operating room, he decided to hang around and wait. He thought that maybe he could catch a glimpse of the baby before leaving.
And he did. Namjoon lit up as he saw the bassinet coming in his direction with her face peeking out of her generic newborn beanie. After snapping a quick photo with his phone, he sees that his mom had a worried look on her face.
“We need to take her to the NICU for a bit. Something about the way her cries sounded—like she was having trouble breathing,” his mom explained.
“I-is she gonna be okay? How’s YN?”
“She’s fine. She’s in recovery right now but she’s still out of it.”
“Wait—she’s by herself?” He asked incredulously.
“Of course not. There’s a nurse there but I have to go and sit with the baby until they say that she’s well enough to join her.”
As if on cue, the baby lets out a garbled cry.
“Ma’am, I’m sorry to cut this family reunion short but we need to get this little one hooked up to a monitor soon,” the nurse interrupts.
Namjoon responded right away without giving it much thought. “I’ll stay with her while you can keep YN company.”
“A-are you sure?” His mom asks.
He nodded. “I’m sure YN will feel better if she sees family there when she comes out of anesthesia.”
They look to the nurse for approval.
“That’s fine. Just follow me, then,” she says in a rush to Namjoon, continuing to push the bassinet towards the NICU while his mom scurried back towards the recovery room.
******
Dull, rhythmic beeping fills the silence in the room. There was only one other baby there and their case seemed worse than his niece’s so the nurse hovered more closely.
After Namjoon was masked up and given a hospital smock, the nurse explained that his niece’s lungs contained a bit of fluid, which apparently is fairly common for babies born via C-section.
Thankfully, she didn't need additional oxygen. The nurse assured Namjoon that the fluid would just make its own way out. It just needed some time.
He sat next to her bassinet, watching the rise and fall of her chest. She looked like she was just chilling, with her tiny arms and legs splayed. The nurse dressed her down to just her diaper and a duck-shaped heart monitor stuck to her torso.
“You can talk to her, if you want?” The nurse urged when she approached to check on the baby’s readings. “All the parents do. It helps.”
“Oh, I’m her uncle,” Namjoon corrects her. “Her dad is on a plane making his way back, though.”
The nurse’s eyes crinkled, signaling that she was smiling through her surgical mask. “That’s okay. You can still talk to her.”
“Uh…w-what do I say?” He hesitated.
“I’m sure you’ll think of something, samchon,” she says before walking away.
Namjoon leaned in closer and gazed at his niece. How do you talk to a baby? How would you even begin? He barely remembers the time when Joobin was a newborn. He met him a couple of times but after that, Namjoon was deep into producing Jaxon’s album.
With one finger, he reached into the bassinet to touch her palm. On contact, he couldn’t help but smile.
“Hi,” he said softly. “I know you can’t understand me right now but I hope you can hear me.” He slowly ran his finger on her hand.
He scoots closer then reaches in with his other hand to caress her cheek.
“You are so cute,” he cooed in a voice that didn’t match his size. “You definitely got that from our side of the family,” he says confidently.
“Although…” He cocked his head sideways, as if to look at his niece from a different angle. “You kind of look like Taehyungie when he was a baby…But we don’t want him to know that so he doesn’t claim ‘favorite uncle,’” he adds jokingly.
He smiled and continued to stare at her affectionately. He continued to wrack his brain for anything else that he could say while she laid there, simply breathing in and out.
He wasn’t quite sure why but his heart swelled with every breath she took. At barely a few hours old, he could see the fight in her.
“I want you to know that Uncle Joonie will be right here until you feel better, okay? I won’t let go.” He pulled his mask down for a moment and lifted her little hand to his lips to kiss it.
When he sets it back down in the bassinet, she gives his finger a squeeze.
******
Namjoon left shortly after Sam arrived at the hospital, coming straight from the airport. He doesn’t stay long because YN asks him to pick up Joobin so he can take him home. Namjoon’s mom volunteers to stay the night with YN.
Two hours later, Sam shows up at their door and carries a sleeping Joobin into his car, thanking them for all their help.
After Sam leaves, Namjoon sinks into the couch, suddenly feeling tired. He just realizes that he was at the hospital for over eight hours. All that waiting around was draining.
Right before he drifts off, Vee emerges from the kitchen singing ‘happy birthday’ whilst holding a cake with a lit candle.
It may have been a long day for him but it wasn’t over yet. It was still his birthday.
Namjoon lets out a weak chuckle and sits up straight while Vee sits on the coffee table in front of him to hold the cake out for him.
He closed his eyes for a few beats to make a wish, then blew the candle out.
“What did you wish for?” She asked.
“Isn’t it bad luck to say your wish out loud?” He dipped his finger into the frosting and licked it off.
She laughed softly. “Only if you believe that kind of thing.”
“This day has given me a different perspective.” He paused to think about everything that happened today. This morning, he woke up feeling completely ordinary. It was just another year, no big deal.
She cocked her head sideways and set his cake down on the table. “How so?”
“You’re going to laugh but I found myself volunteering to sit in a room alone with my niece for a couple hours.”
Her mouth is agape, raising an eyebrow upon hearing that. “Really?”
“Yeah. They had to monitor her for a bit and…I don’t know, I just talked to her.”
Vee cracked a warm smile and moved closer to him. “You did?”
Namjoon nodded. “And I held her hand…” he smiled at the memory. “It was the best feeling,” he sighed happily. “I don’t think I held Joobin until he was at least 10 months old. And he was a hefty kid!”
She smiled endearingly at him. “And this is related to your wish…because?”
He stared at Vee quietly, the same way he did his niece. They were perfectly happy with their lifestyle: working, traveling, no kids to worry about. But something about the warmth that bloomed in his chest when he held his baby niece’s hand gripped him in a way that he couldn’t explain.
“I wished to feel that same feeling again except… for us…with our own baby,” he said slowly.
Vee stared blankly at him. This wasn’t in their plan. They both worked too much and were accustomed to going out at every chance they got.
Immediately, Namjoon tries to explain himself knowing full-well that he and Vee had long-established in their relationship that kids were just not at the top of their list of priorities. “I-I know what you’re thinking—“
He stops talking at the touch of her hand. She brushed her thumb over his cheek, smiling at him. Then, she pulled at his shirt, bringing him closer for a kiss.
“Why don’t we start tonight? I still owe you that birthday Happy Meal,” she laughed.
He beamed, sinking his teeth into his bottom lip. “I won’t say no to that.”
It seemed like an impulsive decision but Namjoon was a whole bundle of love that day, all because of his baby niece. He knew right when she tugged at his finger, she had him wrapped up in hers.
******
The next morning, on his way to work, Namjoon decided to stop by the hospital. He cracked the door open, announcing his arrival. “Are you decent?” He asks, in case YN was nursing the baby.
“Yes,” she laughed from behind the curtain. “Come on in! We’re just having a little snuggle.”
He found her with her back reclined to the bed, the baby sleeping on her chest.
Namjoon bends a little to have a look at her while her head rests on her mom’s shoulder. “Wow, she already looks so different!”
She agrees with him. “She does, huh? By the way, I heard that you were really good with her in the NICU. Watched her like a hawk,” she smiled.
Namjoon chuckled while he sat on the chair next to the bed.
“Do you want to hold her?”
The question takes Namjoon by surprise.
“A-are you sure?” He was notoriously clumsy so he wanted to make sure that his sister knew what she was asking him to do.
“Of course!” She sat up gingerly, wincing as her incision site was still sore. Namjoon helped her out of the bed until she was steady on her feet.
“What if I drop her?” He panics.
“Oppa, when you love something this precious, dropping them is the last thing you’ll ever do,” she assured him. “Now, sit back down and I’ll hand her to you.”
“Uh…o-okay…” He nervously lowered himself into the seat once more. Holding the baby securely with one hand, YN grabs one of the extra pillows at the foot of the bed with her free hand and sets it under Namjoon’s elbow.
She instructed him to hold out his hands. He does so but keeps his elbows tucked to his sides.
She gently peels the baby off her chest, making her flinch at the loss of warmth. It doesn’t help Namjoon’s nerves.
YN sees Namjoon tense up. “You have to relax. Babies can smell fear,” she joked.
He scowls at her. “Not funny.”
There was no turning back now. The handoff is awkward, as expected, but he takes his niece, and immediately curls his arms inwards to hold her close to his chest. She whines a little and it makes him more nervous. YN tries to rearrange his arms on the chair, almost like a marionette, in what she thought would be a more comfortable but still secure position for him.
When he finally settled in, the baby instinctively nuzzled into his chest. It made him visibly relax. His shoulders sink into the chair while she falls back to sleep in his arms.
“See? That wasn’t so bad, right?” YN remarked.
Namjoon gives a vague hum and continues to stare at the baby. Without prompting, he dipped his head lower and lifted his arms slightly so he could brush the tip of his nose against her forehead. She lets out a little yawn, which endears him.
YN smiled warmly at the moment that just unfolded then quietly reached for her phone to snap a candid photo of them.
Without looking up at YN, he asks, “Have you guys thought of a name yet? I know you said that you were tossing a few around but decided to wait until you got a good look at her.”
“Yeah. Sam and I came up with it last night. Well,” she added quickly, “I actually suggested it first. He agreed and thought it was perfect.”
He finally managed to tear his eyes away from his newborn niece. “And?” He waits expectantly.
YN smiled knowingly at him. “Say ‘hello’ to–”
Tumblr media
“Jooniyah!” Namjoon called out to his niece. “That spot is all messed up. I don’t want you tripping over and hurting yourself.” The path, although paved, was dangerously uneven because of tree roots pushing up from under the concrete.
He paced around nervously, ensuring that Jooni moved away from that part of the playground before he sat back down. He volunteered to bring the kids to the park while his other siblings helped make arrangements for his dad's memorial.
Namjoon wanted the kids to feel some type of normalcy as a dark cloud hung over the Kim household. He thought that it was perfectly fine to take some time away from mourning their grandfather. They were still so little after all.
“Jooni! Come and get me!!!” Joobin giggled as he outran his sister.
Jooni gives up as her brother zooms around the playground. Instead of going after him, she runs towards the park bench where Namjoon sat. “I need to take a little break, oppa!” Jooni panted as he handed her a water bottle.
She takes a long swig. Afterwards, she says, “Uncle Joonie?”
“Yes, princess?”
“Is Uncle TaeTae gonna be okay?”
His eyebrows furrowed at Jooni’s concern for Taehyung. He hadn’t come out of his room since the mortuary took away their father’s body.
Namjoon paused to think of a way he could explain it to her in simple terms but he wouldn’t dare sugarcoat the situation. He knows that his niece and nephew were wise beyond their years and that YN always tried her best to talk about difficult subjects with her children as openly as she could.
He pulls Jooni close to him and cups her little face. “Uncle TaeTae is very sad that harabeoji is gone. He needs some time to process.”
“But we’re sad, too.”
“Yes, we are,” he agrees soberly. “But we all feel differently and we all deal with it in different ways. For example, halmeoni likes to clean and organize things. Uncle Jin stays close to Auntie Yoojung; your mommy likes to keep herself busy by cooking; while I like to go out to get some air and have some time to think. Uncle Tae…he likes to be left alone.”
Jooni pursed her lips. “I like to be alone sometimes, too.”
Namjoon’s heart lurched. Some days, he had to remind himself that Jooni was all but three-and-a-half. But her thought process, the way she felt things…she seemed more mature than most kids her age. Then again, he was biased.
He lifted her chin up then gave her a soft smile. “But you know that you don’t have to be alone, right? And if you feel like you need to, you can always talk to somebody?”
She twisted her lips wryly. “Yeah.”
Namjoon lowered his neck at her. “Do you want to talk to samchonie about it?” He asked with a small smile.
She shook her quietly.
He nodded. “That’s okay. You just need some time…just like Uncle Tae.”
She nodded in return and not long after was suddenly distracted by Joobin flying down the big slide at the park with a loud whoop, landing on his butt on the ground.
Namjoon’s head snaps up in Joobin’s direction and runs towards him to check for any injuries.
“I’m okay, Uncle Joon,” he giggled, dusting his bottom off and turning the corner to go up the steps again.
Namjoon sighed in exasperation. “Aigooo…Joobinah! Don’t do that again. I’m going to get in trouble with your mom if I have to rush you to the ER,” he calls out to him but Joobin ignores him.
“Jooniyah! Come on!” Joobin waves to her from the top of the slide before pushing off down the structure.
Namjoon turns to look at Jooni. “Why don’t you go play with oppa?”
She shook her head. “I’m scared. It’s so high.”
“What if you and Joobin slide down together?”
She shook her head again. “He goes too fast! What if I fall?”
He wrinkled his eyebrows then squinted. Seconds later, he gets an idea. “Would it help if…we went down the slide together?”
She thought about it first. “You won’t let me go?”
“Of course not. I’ll hold on to you real tight, I promise,” he reassures her.
After a bit more hesitation, she acquiesces. “Okay.”
Namjoon grinned. Before climbing up the slide, Joobin asked to be spun around a sit-and-spin, to which he obliged.
They climb up the steps to the top of the big slide. Namjoon barely fit the structure but he promised Jooni that he would go down with her.
He waited while she took her place in between his legs, where he held her securely.
“Are you ready, princess?”
“Uhh…”
Sensing the hesitation in her voice, he gives her shoulders a gentle squeeze. “Hey, remember, I said that you can hold onto me as tight as you want. And I promise that I won’t let go until we reach the bottom, okay?”
She gave him a small nod. “Okay.”
“Okay,” he reassures her. “On the count of three, we’ll push off. Ready? One, two, three!”
Down they went, Jooni’s fingers clutching onto Namjoon’s jeans as she let out a little squeal.
For a 3-year old, that slide went fast. And when they got to the bottom, Namjoon checked on her.
“Are you okay, Jooni? Are you still scared?”
She turned her head to face him, her lips curving upwards into a grin. “That was so cool, Uncle Joonie! Again!” She exclaims as she scrambles off his lap.
He laughs then runs after her. “Slow down! Wait for me!”
Though he still had some warranted fears about fatherhood, at that moment, he started to feel optimistic about it.

Stella "Fucked Up" Rawlins
Every second of Stella and Hoyt Rawlins made my skin crawl and I want to dive into that a little bit.
First of all, we have Augustus' narration going into their story: "Sometimes the path we're on is clouded by the ones who brought us into this world." Definitely setting up for some awful parenting.
This plays over Stella and Hoyt standing outside of the bank.
I just want to go over their interaction because it's sooooo wrong
Hoyt: Mama, why are we back here?
Stella: Thought we'd swing by where you were born while we pass through.
Hoyt: Why didn't we stay?
Stella, derisively: 'Cause it was nothin' back then. And it's not much better now.
Then Hoyt makes this face:
Tumblr media
Tell me this is not the face of a child who wants an actual home to live in but doesn't get a say
Which leads us to this:
Tumblr media
"You tired of seeing the world with me? You want to put down roots and quit living?"
WITHOUT HESITATION, she puts words in Hoyt's mouth and turns his thoughts, however true they may be, into a slight against her. And the way she paints settling down in a bad light sure is something. Now, we know that she's an outlaw and settling down would be very bad for her since the law could catch her but we don't know how long that's been the case or how long she's been dragging Hoyt around.
Anyway
Hoyt's reaction is to say "Never!", an apology of sorts, which earns Stella's approval. "That's my Hoyt!"
Then we get to the meat of the matter: Stella frames them robbing a bank as "taking money from people who don't need it" and them having fun. Hoyt can't be much older than 10 so framing this as a game makes some sort of sense if she wants him to go along with it. It's still terrible.
As for the bank robbery itself, I don't have much to say except that Hoyt acts a lot younger than he looks. Asking the banker how high he can count and talking about eating too many lollipops.... idk he just sounds younger than he is. Makes me thing this is a script he's been running for literal years.
Now to the arrest:
Stella does get some positive points for immediately thinking of where to send Hoyt since she can't use him look after him anymore. Not many, but some.
Anyway-
Tumblr media
"I'll find you. Bust you out, Mama."
It interests me that Hoyt's first reaction is to assure his mother that everything's gooing to be okay. He'll find her again, get her out of trouble. These are normally words that a parent would say to a child.
Tumblr media
Stella's reaction is also interesting. She's praising him for keeping the family business going. She then promises to come back for him once she's "settled" everything.
Tumblr media
That is the face of a woman who's just made a promise she knows she can't keep.
Then she gives Hoyt her hat and they part ways, likely for good.
I don't doubt that Stella cared for Hoyt. If she didn't, she would've left him with the Reyes' in the first place, or left him somewhere else along the way. But there is clear evidence that she's used him not only as an accomplice in her crimes but also placed the burden of her emotional and mental wellbeing on him. She treats his very normal desire for a stable home as a terrible insult to her and paints their criminal activity in a much brighter light than it deserves. No matter how you put it, she used and abused him and definitely gave him commitment and abandonment issues. Even as an adult, he can't commit to having a criminal partner, let alone a romantic one.

how do most of the repurpose gang feel about starting a family in the future? not like the near future but like. the prospect in ANY future ya know? especially interested in ramón as someone who already has a child and noel since like that just feels like a real. possible vulnerability point for him! it’s cool if this is a topic that makes u uncomfy or whatever but i was just thinking what the gang might want for the future and how that could be different from like. what mc wants potentially. silly silly thoughts
Hmm! Interesting question!
Spoilers below for eveyones routes!
Ramon- Sees the MC as Ariel's other father/mother/parent already once they're married. Ramon wants to give Ariel the best and hopes/knows you want the same. He would also like to raise more children with you but know the whole "demon promotion" process might turn off people that one day want to reincarnate. In that case there's always adoption/finding a surrogate demon to host or impregnate Ramon.... Ohh, by the way Angel/Demon (cis and/or trans) can get pregnant too! (See Irene's route for the explanation) Though I think Ramon is the type to encourage promotion so you two can be together forever.
Kalei- Kalei would absolutely love the idea of raising a child with the MC! His only worry is that every 5 years he, and potentially you, will need to go back to Haven Home for a year to help wayward souls get into Utopia. He would love your child but his passion to help trial-goers is also important to him so something will have to be figured out. Maybe having your child stay with his parents? He swears they're good people, they raised him after all! Similar to Ramon he would encourage angel promotion and even put a good word for you! but adoption/surrogacy is also an option.
Noel- I think Noel would love to raise a family with you... but a lot the things that plague him even after his story still haunt him. He would probably go far as to think he would be a terrible father and that you deserve to raise a family with someone that isn't disgraced like him. Plus there's the issue of needing to be promoted (preferably to angel but demon is possible as well) into order to conceive a child. And if that happened Limbo, even post-good end, isn't ideal for a child he thinks. So in the end he would reject the idea and would just want to enjoy Limbo with you for eternity or till you want to take the trials. I made myself sad lol.
Given humans can't have children in the after life... it's kind of hard to give their thoughts on raising a family the only option is to adopt or find surrogate parents? So I'll answer it with only those two options in mind for them.
DJ Roadkill- DJ wouldn't mind raising a kid but given they live in Limbo it's not the safest place yet. Plus finding angel or even demon surrogates is pretty close to impossible. So that dream will have to be at the backburner till Limbo is recognized as a livable third realm that allows demon and angel residents that can or abandon the idea completely.
Mitts- I think would be too busy with her work bringing Utopia to the modern era and beyond to want to raise a child. She's sorta just happy with having you and her many inventions that while she affectionately calls them your children are still just inventions meant to serve her/others.
Rosita- Rosita prefers being the fun aunt vs being the mom. She doesn't hate kids! She just can barely take care of herself and would rather invest her time in you.
Irene- She's a hard pass on kids. She loves Ariel but one is enough for her and similar to Rosita and Mitts is happy with just you.
... wow I just realized none of the female characters listed here want kids LMAO. Good for them. I neglect Cherubim and Faye from this on purpose as I can't discuss this without going into part 2 spoilers.
Though if you want to do family/nextgen AUs with characters that don't want kids fine! this is just how, at present, would handle the topic in canon. And even then I could change my mind on who and who wants/doesn't want kids (hi me from the past if I'm reading this and changed my mind on any of these).
