Inktober 2023 - Day 6: "GOLDEN"

"I was so close..."

I began an Artificer run last week and just got around to delivering the gold pearl to Five Pebbles a couple of days ago. The pearl color just happened to match the upcoming Inktober prompt, and so this image quickly came into my head as a result.

This is actually the first finished inked drawing I've done in several years, it seems. I've never really participated in Inktober before, and I've been hesitant to use any kind of ink in my traditional drawings for fear of messing up. Plus, I was wary after having already tried (unsuccessfully) to draw this idea digitally, but even with my errors I like how this turned out! Drawing the thinking circle was especially relaxing.

Let me know if you would like to see more inked drawings! I think I'll try to draw at least a few more of this year's inktober prompts!

Also, can I just talk about how the story of the iterators gets more and more interesting the more I find out? I've already been spoiled on a lot of the story, and yet it still hits so hard when I see for myself the dialogue explaining it all in detail. Five Pebbles is definitely becoming one of my favorite characters in anything just because of how complex and tragic his story seems, and there's no better way for me to express that than through drawing. As such, all this intrigue was definitely enough to overcome my fear of inks, and the resulting drawing worked out nicely (even if Pebbles in-game probably didn't)!

It had already been a long day, and you hadn’t even done anything other than watch a movie, sleep, and throw up. Being pregnant was no joke, and currently, you were regretting it.

Currently, you were sitting on the couch, watching your comfort show while sipping some tea in an attempt to ease your stomach when your phone went off with a text notification.

“Are you feeling any better or is it still as bad as when I called you earlier?” It read from Mick. He called you right when you woke up since he was in the UK doing some pretesting and would be busy pretty much all day.

“Not really. I know you’re in a meeting, but I miss you,” You sent back. You didn’t want to be too much of a downer, especially when he couldn’t really do anything to help.

“I’ll always text you. Toto can’t take my phone away,” he replied immediately before three more dots appeared. “If you need anything let me know. I’ll call you after the meeting.”

It didn’t feel like you were asleep for long, but when you opened your eyes, the moon was high in the sky. Last you remembered, it was barely noon. You can’t even remember if you zoned out while watching your show or if you actually fell asleep. What pulled you out of your trance? Knocking, but who would be at your house at 10 o'clock at night (you checked the clock)?

You got up from the blanket cocoon you had buried yourself in to answer it, and it was a delivery of your favorite food. You thanked the person before closing the door and heading back to the couch to text Mick.

“Did you send me this?” You sent with a picture.

It didn’t take long for him to answer with, “Of course! I needed to make sure you ate something.” It made you tear up at his thoughtful actions.

“You're an angle,” You sent back quickly, immediately noticing the typo. You let out a groan before going to correct yourself, “**Angel”.

“Acute one I hope?” He replied to the first text, ignoring the correction. You laughed to yourself for a second, thinking of a response.

“If I say yes, will you come home sooner?” I joked, slightly optimistic.

“Answer the door,” his text read as there was more knocking.

Hi fellow shellheads! Since we have this special date coming upon us! This may 5th will be the 40th anniversary of the creation of our beloved turtles! I kinda decided at the last minute to participate in Inktober and it’s going surprisingly well so far (1, 2 & 3)! I tend to do a knitting theme because that’s all I want to draw in the Fall and I think I have concepts for most of them.

I’m really leveling up my fake Cirque show poster game! These are my absolute favorites and I thought I’d do a little story time, so gather around. I got the idea for the posters from my best friend’s father in law who happens to be a fantasy writer. He had told us the story of how a family trip to Lake Tahoe had inspired the names of one of the locations in his books. He changed the names of the various Tahoe landmarks to Scottish sounding names and no one ever picked up on it. So that’s what I did with the show posters! I’ll admit that it was a lot of trouble to go through when only tiny parts are visible, but it brought me joy so I ran with it.

Art Summary 2023 aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Last new years i got really down because every artist I knew was doing year recaps. I decided to avoid that this year, I was gonna try to draw at least one thing every month. I was able to do it thank gosh gdkjfnghjf.

I wasn't able to do an excellent piece every month- sometimes just a sketch. Maybe that should be goal 2024? I'll try to make a really good piece every month.

January

Didn't start off strong really. Best thing I did this month was a sketchpage of Q. The campaign she's in started in January and has been going strong since =w=

February

I couldn't design between the two aack. The first was a lil sketch I did when I first started dating Cam. She said she wanted to watch me draw and I couldn't think of anything, so I just started putting together something mechanical aack. You can tell I kinda got tired after just drawing the head .-.

Second was when I was still super into Bocchi. Still am, just haven't drawn any fanart in a while gkfdjhnjgff.

March

"Recipes for Strawberry Jam" was my absolute favorite thing to work on all year I think. This specific page took so long but it all worth it. It was my first serious foray into making a comic, using color, and trying out weird perspectives and I think it worked out so well. I'm really hoping to do more soon =w=

April

This is around the time I switched my sketch paper to a more grey-color rather than a yellow-ish tone aack. I later switch it again to stark white. Road Queen~

May

I drew one (1) thing in May. May is always the worst part of the year aaaa. It starts to get hot again and because I live in the desert that means that life is suddenly unbearable and I have to Deal with all of that.

Ultravex! Everyone loves Ultravex =w=

One of the best xenobiology pieces I put together aack. I love designing animals that are fucked up and horrible.

I made a lot of Maleghast necros this month. Was a little sad I didn't get more comms for Deadsouls Necros. It was my favorite one to make ghkfjdhnjgf

I was really happy to be able to make a necromancer for the Archivists homebrew house aack. I honestly didn't draw much in Decemeber except for. A lot of vent art I'd rather not share and nsfw art I don't wanna share aack. Almost fumbled it all at the end aaa

This was the first year I made like, any significant living off of commissions. I hope to continue growing next year. Thank you sincerely for following me. It's a little... nerve wracking, but I'm glad to have people aack. I'd like to keep working like this- making art on commissions and ko-fi supporters, and everything helps. It's always been my dream to scrape a living from my art, so, thank you. aaaaaaa

Today, I went with a more simple interpretation of the prompt by drawing the broom dog from Alice in Wonderland, who erased the path that Alice was following.

Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite Disney movies. I think it has some of the most colorful and creative animations.

heyyy I'm new to digital art, would you mind sharing some tips regarding programs and tutorials and etc? also on how to turn a real life piece into a beautiful and clean digital piece... really love your art

oh good luck with your art journey! my experience with digital art is pretty dated (as in a decade + levels dated) and i might be too out of touch to give beginner tips but regardless, allow me to attempt

Programs: it would help to know which hardware you have for digital but ill put down some i have experience in 1. Clip Studio Paint Pro - PC/Android/ipad/everywhere i think? unfortunately they betrayed humankind and its now a subscription everywhere but on PC. i bought a one-time license years years years ago on sale and its probably the best available on my end. I also got it on subscription on android so i can sync works between my PC and tablet. its very flexible in a way that you can draw with it in the most basic way single layer sketches or whatever but they have so many features and keep adding more.

2. procreate - ipad only never been an apple user but my friend is, and he's been a procreate user forever. he recently tried CSP on ipad though and he still claims he likes procreate better for ease of use and compatibility with tablet ergonomics and apple pen

3. medibang paint - pc/android/ipad

free forever. and out of all the free programs i recommended my other digital art newbie friend this is what he liked best.

4. adobe photoshop - dont even look at this the only reason i have one is im leeching off company license. its still unfortunately the industry standard tho but CSP is much cheaper and has the same controls and most of the basic functions 5. Paint Tool SAI - my first art program but i haven't tried it again. honestly still think this has the best brush flexibility and pen pressure control ----- As for tutorials, i find digital art has such a steep and high skill ceiling and its a challenge im still tackling and probably will forever tackle haha. I'm trying to osmosis painting techniques from splash art painters from League of Legends who most of them post complete timelapses (my favorite being Bo Chen) where you can study not just their techniques but like, art directions that make their pieces striking. Anyway, I also promised a friend I would make a simple coloring tutorial so maybe after inktober hustle, I would look for a piece there I'd use for the guide.

---- Traditional to digital is never a satisfactory process to me but if you can, invest on a scanner. I use an epson v39, had it for years.

scanned vs edited. the goal is to at least get the white of the paper as white as possible and the blacks the blackest, without whitewashing/burning the rest of the colors. Level correction function is your best friend here and most art programs have that.

Then i just clean dust and errors and slide the contrasts around until it looks as close to the original piece

If you have a decent phone camera, you can get away just posting instagram aesthetic pics with materials framing it or smth and just edit as usual. natural light tends to be a lot more forgiving than the harsh light of scanners anyway.

Anyway I hope this helps and have fun learning!

🤩 oh what a fun idea!! I would LOVE to gush about some really cool artists, thank you 😁

I'll start with @shyranno, whose art I absolutely adore. her style is so clean and expressive and colorful, and she makes amazing comics. the TBB Downtime series is exactly my kinda Clone content, filled with lots of fluff and feels. the "baby" batch ones are my favorite, but I'm also fond of this one where Tech gets teased from not being able to grow a beard 😜

another artist I really love is @zaana! she also draws a lot of really sweet and funny moments with TBB, and I'm super fond of her more sketchy style of drawing. she's got a "Crosshair defects the Empire" AU about Cross rejoining TBB sometime during season 2 that I love soooooo much. honestly, all her stuff with Crosshair (especially the ones with Omega) is top tier. although I think my top favorite is this one with Hunter and Crosshair (which @questforgalas also wrote an amazing oneshot about!); it's so simple but so sweet, and I automatically love any wholesome content between these two 🥰

then there's @lightspringrain, who makes beautiful portraits of TBB. I've been wanting to buy some of her prints (and will absolutely do so once I have the money!!) because they are seriously gorgeous. her "Crown" series is the best, it's so lovely! and she does an amazing job capturing the style of the show! to no one's surprise, my favorites are the Hunter and Omega moon crowns. the Hunter one is legit one of my favorite art piece ever; it's been my lockscreen on my phone ever since I saw it 💙

someone I recently started following is @thattoothpick! after seeing her "TBB Happy on Pabu" comics, I had to see more. the best way I can describe her style is "soft". everything is just so soft; the lines, the colors, all of it. it just makes me happy 😊 I have two favorite pieces; the first is this one about Hunter and Crosshair from the Pabu series. literally made me cry. I need this to happen SO badly 🥺 and then this one that I refer to as "the Sad Batch"... oh man. also had me crying (but also simping for obvious reasons LOL) 😭

now for a big one. I can easily say my favorite SW related artist of all time is @lornaka. her art... holy crap y'all. it's so freaking good. she makes everything from simple portraits to stunning dynamic pieces, and I'm obsessed with all of it. she even was featured during SW Celebration last year!! she's that good!! \o/ I have a few favorites of hers. which obviously includes the TBB poster she made for Celebration. still sad I couldn't get my own copy of it 💔 then there's this... lovely portrait of Hunter from behind. oh Lordy 🥵 and finally, my top favorite is actually this simple portrait of Hunter. I had it as my lockscreen for a LONG time. it's just... so good. the colors, the stars, his expression... I'm still obsessed 😍

finally, I can't talk about amazing artists without mentioning my sister @jam-n-ham. her art account is @joyjababanoid. y'all. please just scroll through her TBB art, you will not regret it. I've always adored her cartoony and expressive style, and it makes for hilarious Clone content LOL. she did a bunch of drawings for Inktober last year, solely focused around TBB. she's also done some comics that I've had a part in helping her develop (specifically the Padme pin-up art and the AZI going on a mission). but my absolute favorite is by far the Valentines collection. y'aaaaaaaall. I had the Hunter one as my phone background for over a year haha. she knows how to personally get to me, let's just say that 🥵

oh, and one last thing I wanna mention is that the one thing these folks all have in common, aside from being fantastic artists, is that I love how each of them draw my bae. seriously, y'all draw Hunter so good, and I'm smooching each of your different versions of him 🥰😘

y'all im gonna participate in inktober next year maybe.

did i do something stupid again? yes. did i get lazy to rotate the canvas? yes. did it pay of? in my humble opinion, yes. i said before that i think it turned out phenominal and yes, this is great. gonna do something simular for the other nailmasters who i've yet to draw despite being at day 20 now. it does kinda ruin the idea for sheo, but it is what it is. also the floor just stops at the candles and it looks so dumb now and the lines to make the sky more interesting could've used a different way of doing it, but aside from that, one of my favorites. i has something differently in mind for sly, where i just used the canvas normally, but i think this is the best. one of my favorites so far, and i think most of the day 12-19's came out good because i tried stupid stuff and it worked somehow, mostly aside from the one for tomorrow, which im pretty sure is themost conventional of the ones.

End of the season debriefs were not my favorites. Not like they were directed at me, no. I just got to listen in because my boyfriend and brothers were on the team, and it’s not like they would drop me off at the hotel before and pick me up after. That just doesn’t make sense.

I was sitting at one of the sofas, scrolling through my phone, as they talked about everyone’s opinions on the car and their individual seasons. In all honesty, I was not listening. I had headphones in, and I was listening to my favorite music playlist. That did not stop me from looking up and admiring my boyfriend as he talked about his season. He must have been talking about the beginning because he was smiling and talking with his hands more than normal.

Seeing his happiness caused me to smile as well as I opened our text messages. “Have I ever told you that your eyes are really pretty? They sparkle whenever you talk about racing and they’re really pretty,” I sent.

Little did I know, he did not have his phone on silent, and Paul was currently holding his phone. I heard the weird alert Dino had chosen for me right next to me, causing my head to snap toward my older brother who was sitting next to me as everyone else in the room looked at him. Paul looked down at the phone, immediately seeing my name and sending a glare my way.

“Really?” Paul said. Dino got up from the table to check his phone.

“What happened?” He asked, but when Paul checked his phone, he accidentally deleted the notification. I pulled my headphones out, ready to defend myself.

“My sibling is a simp,” Paul laughed simply.

“How was I supposed to know you had his phone?” I retorted.

“Why are you texting him during a debrief?” Paul threw back.

“I got bored,” I admitted before deciding to have some fun, “Also, he looked cute. Did you expect me to keep that to myself?”

“I don’t need to hear this,” Paul mumbled as he walked away from me. I looked over to see Dino take the space next to me as he pulled me into his side, kissing my temple.

“I think it’s cute,” Dino whispered into my ear.
