#I should get around to editing and posting my gameplay in this world

Note
say, i heard you reblog a post about role playing games. do you happen to know of any ones that i, a beginner, could feasibly get into in this day and age? i tried DnD but a combination of not having anybody to play with (whether irl or online) and a dissatisfaction with low level boringness kind of made it fizzle out for me
oh hey an ask from 3 months ago that I didn't even see. hi.
ANYWAY. First things first, i cannot recommend @theresattrpgforthat enough. Ain't nobody better at recommending rpgs than that blog right there. Now, on to my thoughts.
If you want a DnD-like rpg, Pathfinder 2nd Edition is gonna be my first recommendation. It's harder to find games for on account of being significantly less popular than dnd5e but it's probably the 2nd most popular game. It's also completely free, with everything being hosted on https://2e.aonprd.com/. It's got everything except adventures, those ya gotta buy. For the next 10 days, there's a humble bundle that includes PDFs of lots of the pre-remaster legacy books, and includes a couple adventures, including a whole adventure path going from level 1 to 20. As a whole, the game is different to dnd but it's recognizable. Big fan myself, and paizo isn't a bunch of pricks. The setting is also super gay. There's a potion of trans your gender, and one of the main religions in the world is the worship of 3 gods in lesbian polycule.
Ironsworn: probably my favorite RPG, period. (also has a space version, that works the same way). It is narrative focused, and designed for solo play or in groups with no GM. Works just as well by yourself, as a duo, in a small group, or in a traditional way with a few players and a GM. It's structured around it's vow system. Your character makes a vow, you decide how difficult that vow should be to accomplish, and as you do things that advance it, you mark progress. Eventually, you make a roll to try and fulfill the vow, with the difficulty determined by how much progress you've made. If you fail that roll, it's bad. Cool thing is that just about everything works that way. Undertaking a journey, delving a dungeon, fighting a dude, it's all handled with the same system. It's a game about perseverance and struggle and relationships, both with people and with places. also very fun to play for writing practice. It's mechanics are rooted in it's setting, but there's no reason you couldn't play it in basically any setting. the youtube channel Me, Myself, And Die is, essentially, Critical Role But It's Solo RPGs, and he did a great season where he played Ironsworn, check it out. Also, Basement Fort on youtube did a duo playthrough. I've only seen the first episode but it seems like a fun watch, as well as showing off duo gameplay.
the Witcher RPG: i haven't played this myself or even looked at the books yet, but everything I've heard about this game has me super excited about it. the general consesus seems to be "yo this is wayyyy better than I thought it would be, why aren't more people playing this, what the fuck". If somebody more familiar wants to talk about it, that'd be dope.
gonna ramble about the rest much less, LIGHTNING ROUND OF RECOMMENDATIONS
Dungeon World: same genre as dnd, but much less crunchy gameplay. Much easier to learn.
Kids On Bikes: it's Stranger Things but as a ttrpg.
Call of Cthulhu: get spooky, idiot. The players are investigators unraveling some mystery or another, and trying to keep their sanity in the face of some cosmic bullshit.
Lancer: it's about mechs! closer to anime-style mechs than battletech style, from what I can tell. I've heard good things.
Vampire: The Masquerade: you will NEVER guess what this is about. It's a classic, it's great, it pretty much redefined the way I think vampires should work. The new version of Werewolf: The Apocalypse is coming soon, and I'm real hyped for that, too.
Shadow Of The Demon Lord: my understanding is that this game is basically "DnD 5e, but good".

old hunters DLC also highlights some themes of colonial violence and exploitation too, imo. what’s been done to the fishing village and kos ties the beast thing up with this idea that like, the impulse to Conquer and Dominate another leads directly to the Curse. It’s not enough to understand the old ones and the blood and all that, they needed to control it, to take it for themselves, and exploit it however they can. And now there’s wolfmans everywhere.
And this is in the core gameplay loop itself, we extract all the vials and blood echos and blood gems that we can in order to become strong enough to conquer more and more powerful prey. When we’re hit, we hit back harder and take back the life that was taken for us. Sure it’s ostensibly to Break the Curse and seek Paleblood and all that, but we know why we’re really doing it. Because it’s sick as hell, and feels awesome to best these monsters. The old hunters knew that too, and it turns them into giant horse creatures unable to do anything besides violence. That thirst for violence and power makes hunters turn into beasts, now only functioning as a cog in a perpetual violence machine. They lose their humanity not through repeated death like in Dark Souls, but through taking life. It turns the characters into monsters, and the players into wiki editors and lore theorists (aka monsters) bc we also can’t let go of the feeling Bloodborne gives us.
Tl;dr: Bloodborne is like if Spec Ops had any subtlety or desire to leave itself up to interpretation (probably helped by the fact that very little of what I’m talking about is likely intentional and I’m just insane)
OKAY im back from my appointment and finished my little treat. anon ("anon" @chicknparm who should get credit for these good thoughts) i could not agree more. i mentioned this in a previous post but finding a strand of commentary about the evils of colonialism made me worried i was becoming dangerously online, but it's a relief to see someone else mention this idea. i think you are absolutely right that one of the overt messages in bloodborne is that spilling blood for your own benefit leads to ruin. its actually kind of shocking how, in spite of the combat being the draw to these games, the message of most fromsoft games is a message of anti-violence. like, how many times do we end up fighting something that, in hindsight, needed to be put out of its misery. oh. shit. thinking about it, our player character is explicitly an outsider. the role of hunter of hunter is filled by outsiders...
also lol you are so right about the wiki based insanity but i think that's the consequences of insight poisoning. literally every once in a while while trying to edit this stupid bloodborne doc i think to myself "oooeergg too many eyes" and take a break for a few days
anyway, turning this back around to the colonialism theme, hear us out ok: watching/reading the sekiro lore videos/posts by shetani of shetani's lair helped introduce a lot of esoteric buddhist and shinto concepts that were totally novel and unknown to be as a baka gaijin. now these ideas are impossible not to see in all of from's other works.
i did a few days of research on "shinshi" (mostly a lot of stuff that turned out to not be relevant, but interesting) after becoming aware of them and found they shared a lot of qualities with the augurs (or "phantasms", invertebrates that act as intermediaries to the great ones) of bloodborne. realizing this, i thought about the great ones not in the context of a christian god, as the MODERN yharnam does, but as kami. kami are numerous, everywhere, hidden, and are thought of as actively controlling or influencing the terrestrial world. the re-translation reveals that the "great pthumeru chalice" had some nuance lost in translation: "祀る - Means to enshrine or worship, but has connotations of doing it to appease spirits so they may reach nirvana or Buddhahood and avoid becoming evil"; this is simply translated to "deify" which is technically correct but the original feels like it's much more pointed about finally revealing to the player that the "gods" as we've been lead to believe them to be are not what they seem.
the healing church, a product of georgian to victorian era western beliefs, razed pthumeru, loran, isz, and the fishing village (and probably yahar'gul too) in the quest to become like their newly discovered gods. the framework by which they related to pthumerian culture was completely wrong and misunderstood the nature of "gods" as all knowing or all powerful and, thus, something aspirational. the reality was more that they are just another type of creature in the world with different limitations than a human. and they're still mortal.

Miasma Streams and Elements
Let's do it again. Editing and completing things said there.
Also thanks @crookedvoidbird for talking about the parasite.
So here's our default map:
Tumblr media
In the past, a meteorite crashes into Mount Vellenge (and destroys the giant crystal that was there). The meteor parasite that came along settles there. It starts producing miasma that spread around the world, but also creates some underground rifts; we can imagine it does that by growing very long tentacles or roots. They are aiming for the main elemental sources scattered over the continent.
Even if it's a move from a living organism that aims to survive, the path that the new rifts take isn't purely from its will and is constrained by geology to some extent, so they happen where the earth's crust already shows some weakness or near tectonic plates boundaries.
Tumblr media
So the rifts are created, miasma also goes into them and flows around the world. Most of the time this path is underground, but sometimes it goes higher and reaches ground level. This is where we get our miasma streams as shown in the game. They look like rifts too; what we see is a bridge above some kind of void and very strong winds all around.
The miasma that travels through those rifts gets imbued with elements on its way. Eventually it goes back to Mount Vellenge to bring the food —the elements— to the parasite. A secondary path is made after the main water source to allow the cycle to repeat and ensure permanent feeding.
Tumblr media
A new rift is created by the parasite, circling Mount Vellenge, leading to a new miasma stream. On their usual cycle, the streams/elements don't merge together, they just swift and let the place to the next element. But if they're stuck together, like they end up doing around Mount Vellenge, the elements are forced to fuse and give birth to the unknown element. The parasite now has a solid barrier to prevent predators from coming too close (like humans who'd want to destroy it by any chance).
Tumblr media
(Compared to the initial (black) rift that is located underground, the unknown element (bright yellow) travels on a higher level so they don't meet.)
But geology and randomness are still a thing. Located where three plates meet/diverge in the ocean, a new breach opens to the south, weakened by the miasma stream that runs nearby, unplanned by the parasite. Some miasma goes in there too and ends in a closed circle underground, the same way it does around Mount Vellenge. A new stream of unknown element is made. Some of it finds its way between smaller breaches until reaching Lynari island and rising to the surface there, in the desert. And as we see in game, there's still some enigma to solve there to find it, but that's not the topic.
Tumblr media
Voilà. More notes under the cut.
Note 1: this is basically how I imagine the miasma stream to flow when it reaches the land just after the wind source, when it seems to pop up from the ocean.
Tumblr media
Note 2: If I really wanted to stay true to the cycle from the game, the earth and fire sources should be swapped. I'll say screw that after all. I already diverge from canon for many things and it would just affect the gameplay/traveling options, which is not exactly my problem.
So the miasma streams' elements change each year like this:
Tumblr media
Note 3: If you wonder why I suggest there's a whole continent that isn't seen in game, here's why.
Note 4: I'll never pretend that everything makes sense geologically wise. Also I'm just doing my headcanons with my own logics and subjects affinities, but I'm sure there could be other nice explanations for miasma streams. Just gonna go with that for now. If needed, it has time to evolve before I get to write more post-game stuff :')
As a last bonus, there could be other elemental sources on the continent, it's just not my point of focus. But something like this could also be true and reinforce the cycle (more sources to the north of the continent are possible):

Unpopular Wizard101 reddit post that I took the opportunity to vent on.
The animations are cool, but maybe add an option if you're soloing to just show a png of the spell card to speed it up.
There should be more side worlds.
Pet banks need to exist
Having a furry as a concept artist was the smartest decision kingsisle has ever made
The integration from 2D to 3D has a lot to be desired, too many things are bug eyed, inconsistent color palletes, and proportions that don't match earlier world.
lip-syncing was a mistake
Pet-stitching should exist if different pets give different cards, what if I want kookaburra cards on a forest leviathan or crow?
speaking of which You should be able to customize which item cards a pet has, I want to give my life pets feint and I'm willing to breed for it.
Pet breeding is way to time/effort costly.
Set bonuses could have been incredible for set building (an under-hyped part of the game), but they just kinda suck, the first boosts are too useless, and the last boosts are good, but composite sets just outclass them. they need a total rebalancing.
The only useful set bonuses were the Dinosaur pet and the dragoon gear. both are now obsolete.
Making bosses with universal resist and then making them a bit more resistant to fire/storm/myth is counter-intuitive to the point different schools, What's the difference between life and storm in the shadow Malistaire fight? the life has 100% pips and accuracy, boosted damage on first phase, more health, more resist, and can heal if they want. the storm makes it up in the second phase, but it pales in comparison to the first.
Going in blind into cheating bosses sucks when the cheats are too rough, I get instant killed the moment I choose the wrong spell, and usually categories of spells aren't allowed.
Healing, is that banned? what about maycasts?
Can I blade, what about aegis?
Traps, do I need to protect them as well?
Are auras an instant lose?
Do I have to aoe because targeting an individual causes them to -90 me? or is it vice versa?
Myth needs a "if you get 30 monstrology points for this creature you can get its summon card as an actual spell". It would be kinda broken, but myths identity would be saved and they kinda need it. It would also change it's gameplay to differentiate it from other schools
Arc 1's story is viewed as best due purely to cohesiveness and nostalgia. Morganthe alone is more compelling and you can at least see PART of what made her into who she is. A side quest where you can find one of Malistaire's memory crystals in dragonspyre as he tries and fails to save Syvlia would have done WONDERS for him. He might not have even felt overdone or pandering with azteca/darkmoor. the same could be said for daseign and grandfather spider.
World design (generally): arc4=arc3>arc2>arc1
notable highlights: out-of-water celestia and azteca
edit: grizzleheim too
More world design opinions, every arc one world besides Wizard city and grizzleheim have areas that are too repetitive.
Krok with it's recolored tombs. The digsite and colloseum are the only landmarks
marleybone with rooftops. (Remember the gazebo with the kidnapper? that was about as much variety as it got)
mooshu with the bamboo trails. remember is mirage when you fought in cites? That with china town syle would be awesome.
dragonspyre with purple/red pompeii style is the only style, its why the time travel is so memorable.
The krokosphynx boat, the marleybone airships, and the great spyre battle drake made the world seem so much bigger and more cohesive than several areas stitched together by loading screen.
Transportation methods besides teleportation and mounts and both variety and worldbuilding. so this is how they get around, imagine a battalion of drake riders flying through here or something.
a train where you could talk to the passengers and learn about whatever world you're in would do a lot.
There's not nearly enough puzzles, it would fix the problem of defeat x amount talk defeat and collect, talk talk defeat boss, rinse and repeat. Mixing up different game play like Khans dance game was great. Imagine trying to siege a castle with grumpy gobblers mechanics, saving a power grid with a bigger shock a lock, or making your way through a trapped dungeon way of the ninja pig style.
PvP for the better part of a decade has been nigh impossible to get into and the hieroglyphic parts killed any enthusiasm I may have had. I will say seeing the ravenwood teachers have new spells was really nice and I wish they would add more new spells up to level 100, 150 or just anything really.
Grizzleheim up to but not including Ravenscar has by far the worst story (after is peak though).
It's too much to go through in order to get to the meat of the story. Some more in your face foreshadowing or additions to the areas to maybe not hint that the coven is the bad guy, but the looming threat of Ymir's awakening could be pretty interesting. Just the idea of oh no, maybe I'm doing something wrong would add a lot to early grizzleheim.
Newer worlds are good, but I'd rather do the 170 quests in new wizard city, krok ,or marleybone areas.
In retrospect, ranting at 1 A.M didn't improve my grammar as considerably as I hoped.

will there be a safe file coming for pine spring island?
As I said in the original post (under creator notes), I won’t create a population for PSV, even if it’s in a save file (or, I should say, especially if it’s a save file).
But -and maybe it can help you- here’s how I set up unpopulated worlds with the use of Nraas Porter (I have no idea how many simmers use this mod, but it's an amazing tool to quickly have a populated town ready to play). You can pack/unpack an entire population with a few clicks and have the benefit of maintaining the existing relationships between households.
Mini-tutorial time:
Let's say you want some of the population from Sunset Valley (SV) in Pine Spring Valley (PSV).
Load up a new game in Sunset Valley. Once you get in live mode, pause the game (extremely important), click on the roof / walls of any occupied house and choose Nraas -> Porter -> Pack.
Tumblr media
2 The mod will open up a new window listing all the households in town
Choose which households you want to have in your new town. For PSV I'd say you can save up to 16 households which is okay, since Appaloosa Plains has 17 in total (16-18 households is the medium amount of households required for a normal gameplay in any world, regardless of the size of that world).
Also,  DON'T choose NPC households like Alien Household or Mermaid Household. These will be generated by the game once you start playing in the new town.
Tumblr media
3. After you made you selection, a new window will pop up listing all the sims in the selected households (with names and portraits). Click "all" or select them individually. It’s good to pack up full households though.
Tumblr media
4.   You’ll be asked to give a name to the new household. I named mine SV_simmies.
Tumblr media
5. Now the mod will start packing up the selected households (for me it took about 5 minutes for the packing to be done, but depending on the size and number of the households the duration will vary).
Tumblr media
6. You'll get a message at the end saying that the process has been successful.
Tumblr media
This is how the Porter’s saved household looks like in the library:
Tumblr media
7. Load up Pine Spring Valley.
Move anyone in town, preferably on an empty lot so the houses will all be available for Nraas Porter to fill them up. The sim(s) you just moved in can be removed afterwards anyway.
Or you can move in the sims you want to play if you already have them, and in this case there’s no need to remove anyone.
8. Pause the game!!! Click on the roof / walls of any empty house and choose Nraas -> Porter -> Unpack and select your saved household from SV.
Tumblr media
9. Wait for the unpacking to be done (usually. 1-3 minutes).
At the end you’ll get a pop up telling you how many households have been successfully moved in or failed (rarely the case, given that you have enough houses in the world).
You’ll also get notifications telling you which household moved into which house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If needed, now you can “Anihilate” the sim(s) you first moved in or go in Edit Town, evict and then delete them (my most preferred method of removing them / haven’t encountered any issues so far).
* You should also check in Edit Town if the houses are suitable for the amount of sims in each individual household (I had a family of 6 being moved into a starter, for instance...repeatedly). Move them around by evicting and moving them into a new house. I’m saying this because if you use Nrass Story Progression they will be audited (if the option is enabled) and will require a proper house later, during gameplay.
** Another advantage of using Porter is that your packed population will stay in the library and can be used over and over again with new unpopulated worlds. Unless you delete it (the same as you would delete any other household saved via game, if anyone was wondering).
Additional tips for safe porting:
1. If you decide you want to move your population after a while of playing in a world to another one:
Sims across town will fill up their “pockets” with all kinds of things so it’s advisable to clean up their inventories after porting them. Not to mention that Porter will also save their fridge inventories (cooked food and ingredients), just like the game does for individual households. So you may end up with hundreds of eggs, tomatoes and apples in the world.
Under City Hall -> Master Controller -> Town -> Object Stats ->Inventory you’re going to see the current inventory of all the sims you’ve just ported. You can delete/flush from here things you don’t want. DO NOT DELETE THEIR PHONES!!!!!!!!! (it will lead to corruption). Additionally, the books and toys you’ll see in this list include the items from bookshelves, toy boxes as well as sims' pockets. The bookshelves will be replenished if you happen to delete the books, I’m not sure about the toys since I never delete them.
Tumblr media
2. You might save households containing tombstones (like I did here with the Goths)
The tombstones will always be placed in the mausoleum upon porting so you can send one of your sims to the graveyard to get them out of the mausoleum and place them down or inside their inventory.
OR
Under City Hall -> Master Controller -> Town -> Manage the dead the mausoleum will open and this will allow you to retrieve the tombstones.
3. The house you clicked on to unpack your population will always retain the household’s name you gave it when saving via Porter, in my case: SV_simmies. You can check which household has been moved in there with NRaas MC or Edit Town and rename it accordingly.
To rename it with NRaas MC: click on the house and select NRaas->Master Controller->Change Name.
That’s about it.
Safe porting & happy simming!

So
I just beat Tears of the Kingdom
Thoughts under the cut because golly I have soooo many
OK SO THIS HAS IN JUST A WEEK ALONE BECOME NOT ONLY MY NEW FAVORITE ZELDA GAME BUT MY NEW FAVORITE GAME OF ALL TIME BECAUSE HOLY SHIT ITS INSANE
Ok, enough screaming, time for coherent thoughts. Sort of. First of all, the gameplay. Its SO fun. Honestly all of the arm mechanics are great; I still need to flex my creativity with ultrahand now that I’m done the game but once I do ohohoho  it’s aaaaaaall over for you nerds. I used ascend SO much tbh, way more than I probably should have, same with recall. The puzzles are really nicely open ended in a way that allows you to use any of these abilities in whatever way you’d like really to solve them. The world itself is so much more fun to traverse using them and speaking of that world its HUGE. Like I’ve barely even scratched the surface of the Depths and I’m gonna be spending a lot of my post game trying to finally map it all out. I do wish there was a bit more going on in the sky but ah well. Exploring what’s there is still fun. The dungeons are pretty good, not the best the series has ever seen, but a major step up from the divine beasts for sure. Same with the boss fights. Though the final phase of the final boss was such an insane spectale like seriously I’m still struggling to believe something that cool happened in a Zelda game imo
The game performs... mostly well, though I did notice a few framerate dips here and there but I’m rarely one to get too worked up over that sort of thing. The way it takes a world that was familiar in Breath of the Wild and makes it look so fresh and new is outstanding. And the music? Amazing, like seriously this game’s main theme slaps so hard, not to mention the final final boss music? ohohohoho godddddd.
Ganondorf is exactly the despicable piece of shit I was hoping he’d be, the new characters like Rauru and Sonia and Mineru are fantastic editions to the Zelda cast and I can easily see them all becoming fan favorites. Seeing characters like Tulin, Yunobo, Sidon, and Riju have some major time to shine was great, and adventuring through the dungeons with them is a ton of fun! The side adventures/quests are also a lot more involved in this game, NPC interactions in general are just more fleshed out, and there’s just so much to do all across Hyrule, which leaves me with so much more to still get to now that I’m finished with it (still haven’t gotten all the shrines not to mention bubble gems; I’ll be playing this for a good long while even now that I’m done with it)
Then of course there’s the story which had me theorizing and second guessing myself right up to the very end. Like seriously, I yelled and laughed and screamed, and of course sobbed like a BABY over the ending. It took so many turns I wasn’t expecting and I really liked that! If botw already made you care about Zelda, this game took it too a whole new level. The memory cutscenes fucked me up and this game personally victimized my emotions and I’ll never recover but I love it so much for that. I’m already thinking through several fanfic concepts centered around this game even as we speak so yeah, like I said, I’ll never recover.
But anyway, overall, my first experience with ToTK has been an incredible one. It was well worth the wait, even better than I anticipated it would be, and will no doubt go down in history, just as BotW did before it, as one of the greatest games of all time. It certainly is in my book, anyway.

Introduction to CHAZ
Tumblr media
Hello, everyone! This is Jazz and I am starting a Tumblr blog dedicated to my fan project! I have been working on it for a full year at this point and only now I had decided to release the first chapter of it to the internet!
What’s CHAZ?
CHAZ (short for “Chapter: AXL, ROCKMAN ZERO”. Don’t ask me why it’s in that order), or Chapter: AXL is a what-if revolving around the idea of Axl making it to the next century where Rockman Zero series takes place as we see him adapt to the new world and search for the answers. Axl ends up coming across Neo Arcadia, joining forces with them to fight against Resistance after learning of the fate of his dear friend, X, who was reported to be slayed by Zero.
What is its format?
This fanfic is written in a format of a videogame script with scene and gameplay directions (which are not as fleshed out in the first chapter as I wanted them to be but the next chapters should get better at this). This results in the script seeming awfully long but you should be able to get used to it quickly.
Why is it written like that? Simple. I don’t have any programming skills and I don’t want this thing to take 10+ years to come out in its entirety. Maybe someday it will become an actual game, but not yet.
The fanfic is seperated into chapters, each of them covering one game in the series. There will be 3 Chapters in total, with each one having multiple parts (mostly because then the document won’t lag) and bonus stories and additional materials that tell more about the characters that didn’t get enough screen time. So far, all stuff for Chapter 1 had been completed (aside from some artworks and the in-depth document on the game mechanics. I don’t have enough time and desire to finish those at the moment, but I will do this eventually!
Who is working on it?
I am the author of this particular idea. I am also the project’s director, main writer and the only artist. Aside from that, I have four more people helping me with the script, grammar, ideas and proof-reading. I really appreciate their work and you can find them in the credits for Chapter: AXL (located at the end of Chapter 1, Part 2)!
Where can I read it?
I have only ever posted this to my Google Drive, sending links to it to my friends of Discord that were interested. Due to its length, I don't really think I can post it on Tumblr, so you will have to use the links to the Drive.
I have made quite a bit for Chapter 1 already so don’t get too scared at the amount of links.
Part 1: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1sbm2eYnMHrpiLg8xEDLgM0mJudZ5LRfr_Uzx7_8XE2A/edit?usp=sharing
Part 2: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-alGV-iNFJO8u9e3S6lo_ewVbU8UMgEr_MYOzlipRFQ/edit?usp=sharing
Trinkets (”lore” items Axl gets after the missions): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1WVba7hUyiCy3Zd3gMqVsdB0NfFzoSd124iwYpEa2v58/edit?usp=sharing
Art Assets (it’s all over the place but I hope that will be alright): https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1T9udymlLnmhSTKdlf-SzzCL0MWu5poED?usp=sharing
We hope you enjoy reading it! I will be posting updates about the progress on Chapter 2 occasionally!

I was thinking about it and maybe I should start posting videos about me just rambling or venting. I can talk about whatever I want, even the most trivial topics, or do whatever I want. If I am, it will probably be around sometime March, maybe later.
Should I invest in a mic? My laptop mic sucks and I know that for a fact. The camera seems decent, but maybe my phone might be better. Then again, I dislike using my phone as a camera because it will start falling. Plus I will not like the angle since I do not have anything to make it stand at a good height. Do I even need to show my face?
That is a good question. Should I show my face? I do not want to because I want to remain anonymous. If my identity gets leaked somehow, I am ghosting everybody, including my family. The ghosting part will already happen by the time I enlist into the army, but if I happen to get leaked, I will probably drop out, enlist, and ghost everybody immediately. Hopefully I am able to get a GED during my service.
I can probably just do torso cam, but that would be hella weird. I do not know. I definitely would like to start speaking my thoughts but without showing my face. If I do these types of videos, I want it raw. No cuts, no edits, just publishing the video exactly how it was recorded. I will still be on Tumblr because there are days where I do not feel like talking at all.
I have been getting into bullet hell type games recently so I might start uploading some gameplay of that too. I am really new and barely play so I will be terrible haha. The first and only Touhou game I played for a little bit was a fan game on Steam because apparently the originals you would need to have so much preparations. I am not about to do all that unless I become a complete slave to it. Anyways, that fan game had a decent soundtrack and looked like a Touhou game. I feel like a big part of Touhou are their music. I listen to some of it even though I have not played the original games. That is how iconic it is.
I recently made a YouTube account to publish the snippet there as well. I am wondering if I should publish my music and blogs/gameplay in the same channel. I just might because I am lazy.
Ren Ashikaga - YouTube
^^^ Click on that if you want to check out my channel.
I want to get into the specifics on what I want to do with my YouTube channel. I want to showcase some hobbies, my notebooks, vent/rant/ramble, act philosophical, choreographies, Touhou gameplay, music, how my day or week went, cool items, and occasional mukbangs. Documenting my life before I either ghost everybody or end up dead would be interesting.
To the few people who somehow went through all my blogs: what are you doing? Thank you though. You got a glimpse of someone else's life from that very person. That is something exceedingly rare. I do not think you will find many online who will consistently blog with detail, but who knows? I hope you learn something from myself. I hope that lesson is to not become like me. I am okay and used to being alone.
Permanently being inside my room is something I have come into terms with. I have not gone to school this entire month of January so far. It is not a good thing though, but I acknowledge the entirety of my situation. Go explore the world outside. I promise you, if you are alone for so long, you do nothing but think.
Many people who live the "chronically online lifestyle" make no money and have to rely on their parents. Not saying that I aspire to be that, matter fact, I am working towards making money online to support my lifestyle. In that realm, you are, statistically, going to be reliant on someone else. When that happens, you will lose all sense of logical reasoning and will end up like the channers and redditors. You will have problems differing from right and wrong.
All the chronically online channers and redditors are fucking losers. They are gross, icky, yucky. They all try to sound smart and they may be educated/smart in certain fields of their interest, but they are far from likable people. They generally do not have proper hygiene, consume energy drinks 24/7, and they live off of someone else's support even though they are 30.
Yesterday, I have seen a few threads of these people openly admitting to being a pedophile, bashing on any positive people they see, and ranting about how their parents do not give them enough support. They even start targeting minors on social media. Makes my blood boil.
Anyways, I just wanted to talk about my plans for social media in the future.
I just Googled the requirements to enlist just now. It says I need to be a high school graduate. I will probably need to homeschool because there is no way I can make up enough credits to be able to graduate. Hopefully it is not too late for homeschooling.
I have rambled on too long. I hope all is well and stay pessimistic. Bye.

I Create Magic: The Gathering Cards as a Brainstorming Exercise
Following a recent exchange from my post about how I don't tend to be good at writing pithy one-liners, I had occasion to reflect on how I don't give myself many challenges or exercises to abbreviate or shorten my writing. My fiction writing style and approach toward editing generally eschew the popular paradigm of "Cut! Cut! Cut!"
But there is one exception: Magic: The Gathering cards.
In the 2010s I was quite into the collectible card game of Magic: The Gathering. Don't worry: You don't need to know anything about the game to appreciate what I have prepared for you today! Basically, Magic is a fantasy-inspired game where you use decks of cards to actually play the game. And what I began doing was designing Magic cards for characters, locations, objects, and events in After The Hero: A Curious Tale.
At first this was just for fun: Take the one subject I'm super passionate about and plug it into this other subject I'm passionate about. I fancy myself a game designer and had spent years reading Magic head designer Mark Rosewater's tumblr, which back in the day included a lot of really good information on game design. So it was only natural for me to eventually try my hand at it!
I quickly realized that I had struck pure gold: This exercise of creating cards turned out to be an incredibly powerful brainstorming tool, and helped me immensely to focus the identities of several of my characters, locations, etc. I was also quite proud of the mechanical designs of my cards, i.e. the gameplay effects they would have had if you had played them in your deck. But I'll ignore that here and focus purely on the aspect of helping to define my Curious Tale world better.
And I thought it might be fun to share some of these designs with you. These designs are mostly from the mid-2010s, as I don't design many cards anymore. I've been trying to get back into it recently to tap into that brainstorming potential, but my success has been limited, sadly; it really seems like I captured lightning in a bottle back in the 2010s; that was just a special time for me.
Still, there are lots of old cards to share with you; I actually designed hundreds of them. The well will not run dry anytime soon!
None of the information contained in these cards should be considered canonical, but there is a decent chance that it's mostly accurate.
Here are two cards to get the ball rolling. If it's all a bit overwhelming to look at, I recommend you focus on the card titles at the top left, and the worldbuilding lore (here called "flavor text") in italics at the bottom:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hopefully these are clickable to view in full size; I do not understand social media anymore, lol!
The first card, King's Arezo, is just some straight-up worldbuilding with a bit of story building for good measure. If there were art for the card, it would be clear that an arezo is worn around the neck, not unlike a collar necklace. We see passing mention of an arezo early in the Prelude to After The Hero; this card is an attempt to expand upon that premise.
The second card, DeLatia's Rear Guard, provides some insight into DeLatia's keen military mind and cocksure personality. On the lips of a lesser mate, such a boast would be hot air, but with DeLatia we can really believe she's capable of arranging for it. (Well, you likely wouldn't know her well enough yet, but I can believe it!)
If you do happen to understand the rules of Magic, you can see from the rules text how on each card how the mechanics of their design support the existing flavor and deepen the worldbuilding / character development. The royal arezo staves off calamity by exiling presumably harmful spells from the stack. DeLatia's card creates excellent defense on the battlefield.
If you want to try making your own Magic cards, the software I use is a VERY outdated version (2.0.0) of Magic Set Editor, which I think is itself outdated by this point. But it doesn't matter so long as you don't want to use the very newest Magic card frames, and for my purposes that's completely irrelevant. Magic Set Editor is wonderful: It's a purely desktop-based application, with no god-forsaken cloud or Internet requirement, and is an incredibly user-friendly, powerful application without being unwieldy or having a steep learning curve. My only complaint about it is that I can't see when I created individual cards in a given set.
Anyway, let me know if Relancii (and potentially Galaxy Federal) Magic cards are something you find interesting and would like to see more of!

So with both the Playstation and Xbox showcases having wrapped, along with a few others, I thought that I should share some gaming news:
Star Wars Outlaws
I seriously did not expect this game at all. And it looks phenomenal! I'm thrilled that they're turning away from the usual Rebellion-Empire, Jedi storylines that we've seen recently and are going towards a gunslinger, smuggler point of view this time around. And from the gameplay shown, this is basically Red Dead Redemption 2 in Star Wars form. The only concern is that this is developed by Ubisoft, which has a reputation for downgrading their games after post-production and hasn't done a lot of innovation in their latest games.
Starfield
I know there is a lot riding on this game, especially for the current Xbox generation. But this game isn't going to make me buy a new Xbox any time soon, mainly because this game looks and feels generic at best. And it has the same game mechanics as No Man's Sky, a game that you could get for 50% when it goes on sale frequently. Or if you just want a Space RPG, then just get The Outer Worlds for $20.
I honestly don't know why people preordering this game in droves, particularly because Bethesda has released really buggy games while also having absurd microtransactions. But since Microsoft owns them now, I'm also having my doubts since one of Microsoft's studios just released perhaps one of the worst disastrous launches in gaming history a little over a month ago. Also, it's locked at 30 frames per second, so if I get a Series X, it's not going to take advantage of the hardware. So, I'll wait until the reviews come in, or at the very least, it goes on sale.
Xbox Series S Carbon Black
It's simply the Series S, just in black. However, it has 1TB of storage instead of 512GB. And it only costs $350. So $50 more for an extra 500GB? This is a really great budget deal in my opinion if you want to upgrade to the current generation of consoles without breaking the bank.
CRKD Nitro Deck
So this is a Switch accessory, but if you want to make your Switch look like a Steam Deck, this is it. However, you don't have to worry about stick drift, it has reprogrammable back buttons, and you can customize the joysticks.
Also, it comes in a limited edition Gamecube colorway, which is really nostalgic for Nintendo fans.
Im gonna be honest i don’t know either game so i hade to research lol 😂 but they both do look really cool I’ve only every played Star Wars Fallen Order but outlaws looks pretty fun, i would definitely like to check it out. Star Field looks sick!! Omg the graphics, but from the trailer it looks like a shooting game am i wrong? I don’t play games like that anymore i used to play stuff like gta san andres or cod in high school but i wasn’t v good tbh 😂. Auto aim is my bestie is all I’ll say haha. I don’t know much about game mechanics or frame rates so i can’t say much there sorry. You can educate me if you want lol. Also I’ve heard of a steam deck and seen it idk what it does? I looked up the nitro deck and i love the gamecube skin, i still have my gamecube and controls 🥹 once i know what it is ill think about purchasing it lol

Entry 1.6.4-2 - The Oakenhall of Timberport
Welcome to my blog. I’m not tagging anything but entry #, so sorry if my unrelated mess somehow ends up in your search.
Just realized 1.6 came out in 2013 so we're now in a 10 year old edition, slowly catching up.
I'm wondering if maybe I should focus on more farming, just grind in my existing plains biomes especially since acacia/dark oak is being added in 1.7. Then I considered waiting until 1.7 to roam for horses, but if I run into a roofed forest then, I might lose access to a woodland mansion (not added until 1.11) so I truly can't wander much until biomes and caves are locked in.
This adds an interesting aspect to my gameplay, since usually in a Normal™ minecraft world I will typically wander too far from my base, die, have no idea where I was, and give up. Hence why my last major world project was hardcore. I hate being locked into hard mode but I acknowledge that I am not a good enough gamer to play on hard all day every day.
Tangent aside, I'm going to be stuck in 1.6 for a while I think. Which is disappointing, because I am Very excited for afk fish farming in 1.7 but can't upgrade.
Tumblr media
If I'm going to be here for a while, I'm going to spend some time properly constructing buildings around the village. I've been doing little bits of terraforming and tearing down houses, I think my (kind of ugly) house) is one of the few buildings left standing. I'd like to relocate my house, maybe to the top of the mountain above Giratina, but I don't know.
I think this location would be good for a better hotel/inn setup than I currently have, I scaled down a "modern" build I saw on google for the previous villager housing and I don't think I'm a fan. Reconstruction time!
Tumblr media
I do want to make sure I reuse these brick stairs for something in the new build though, bricks were (and kinda still are) a flex.
Also, because achievements reset again, I got "Getting Wood" for tearing down my own home. Incredible.
Tumblr media
I think I could make a wheat farm underneath the housing, safely locked away from the villagers who will probably find a way to trample it.
[ONE WEEK OF GAMEPLAY LATER]
Tumblr media
hey so uh. there were a few progress pics but tumblr ate my previous draft of this post. Say hello to Oakenhall. I played with fantasy name generator and kinda got stuck on a wood theme kick bc I want to use mostly wood for the village buildings and plant an illuminated (maybe more froglight mushroom themed later on) forest close to the walls.
It'll be expensive and time consuming, but I want to put logs columns where I would have placed corner stairs on the wall, if that makes sense.
Tumblr media
like hiding where the wall corners meet.
Anyway, I wanted this blog to be a bit more journal-y so I'm going to start doing more weekly-ish posts where I play in small increments before work and *maybe* make more progress on days off, maybe. Then at the end of the week I'd just tour any unique changes rather than my current strategy of literally blogging while I play, which is kind of distracting.
Timberport Tuesdays. or smth.
ANYWAY. I want to make the most of this is a kind of taste of what the new entrys will be like.
Tumblr media
This is the back of Oakenhall, I wanted to make some kind of back mural but with only a 3x5 area I just made it a little abstract rainbow.
This roof will take me forever I hate building roofs so much this is why I just squared off the old building
Also, can we talk about how time consuming wooden builds are?
Tumblr media
Like between the walls and floor (don't get me started on accent logs) this takes so much wood. But also, I wanted to show somehow that this is plank floor so I used all the stairs I got from tearing down villager roofs as a kind of baseboard.
At the rate I'm going and how much wood I still need, I might have to take a break from building to enchant another axe (silk touch would be nice, even if its not on a pickaxe..)
I don't think I would ever make an automatic tree farm. If I'm going to build something from wood, I would much rather just cut down trees (getting saplings to hoard to turn into bone meal later) than have to create complex redstone contraptions to break the game and duplicate sand to mine the wood with TNT. Waaayyy too much work.
Tumblr media
Between those two logs is the entrance, I have 8 doors and 8 beds on this floor. I still haven't crafted any paintings for the interior but I'm focusing on the 2nd floor walls rn so my wool is going to smth else
Tumblr media
the 2nd story has 10 doors and 12 beds, I'm prepped for when they'll eventually need beds, and I may have some "accidental" villagers walking into lava so that I can get every profession here.
Tumblr media
I do have quite the little collection of them now, I'm pretty sure they're ready to move into their new home. Could've swore I had a priest and a few more villagers but they could've wandered off or killed themselves climbing my incomplete demolitions. I did accidentally axe one.
Tumblr media
Glad the golem is happy w/ the new place :)
I guess my next post will be next Tuesday if everything goes according to plan.

Beehive Games - the what, when and why
I wanted to talk about my little Indie Games company Beehive Games and have a sort of perma-post that i will link to directly from the website.
At time of writing, Beehive Games is coming up to around 5 years old where we have released 3 or 4 itch.io/kartridge/game jolt games, 1 steam game (including Steam Deck support) and currently working on a Switch version of Space Haters, and working on (at least) 3 new things.
But where did it all begin? Since about 2008 I have always wanted to make my own games and noodled with a few projects, including a release of "Storm Ship Shiro" on the Vita via PlayStation mobile before Beehive even existed.
Tumblr media
I continued to make games in my free time, usually JRPG games that I would never finish or release 🤣
I also work full time in the games industry on a load of different projects, and was working on Fable Fortune (one of my favorite games I worked on) for a while. However, I was working at a multi-project studioand after Fortune wrapped up, I moved on to a match-3 mobile title, which for me wasn't exactly stimulating. I was sort of fine with working on it, at the end of the day it was my job and I needed to pay the bills, and the job was comfortable.
But the project was boring.
Tumblr media
So, I decided to start my own company as a side-hustle to release my games. And that was Beehive Games. The reason I started my company is having a LTD company gives you a little bit more protection, i.e. if I really messed up with it my house that I pay a mortgage on would hopefully not be in the firing line😁
To start I released a couple of games on itch.io (I didn't think they were good enough for Steam... but well they could go up there as there is worse up there right now.
They were Devilwood and Storm Ship Shiro: True Pilot Edition. As with everything on itch, they did... fine. Well fine for side hustle/hobby projects.
I also just remebered Shiro came out on Kartridge! Is that still a thing?! I should check that out and see if I can get Space Haters on there.
Anyway, back on track. I came up with a random idea called Space Haters which was a "one-shot vertical shooter set in the ruthless world of interglactic music". I knocked something up pretty quickly with pixel art and actually it isn't a far cry to what was released from a gameplay perspective.
During this time, one of my best mates who also happens to be a good artist, asked if I was stiill doing the Beehive thing. I said yes and he joined me in building stuff. Originally we wanted to make a quite high end horror game. And to be fair we could have done it pretty well, but in the end we realised we just needed to do something quicker start to finish.
We kicked off with Space Haters and then found my other friend who was a musician. And then covid happenned and none of us had much to do in the evenings so we just cracked on with Space Haters. I don't know the exact man hours, but I don't think it was anything insane (maybe like 3-4 months of actual man hours).
And we released it on Steam!
Which was awesome!
Again it hasn't made much money at all, but really I didn't care. A team I built made something from start to finish and released it and had fun!
That was 2021 we released it. Unfortunately after that, our artists employer was bought out by one of the biggest games companies ever and big company's and releasing stuff you are gonna sell on stores do not mix.
Shortly after, i had a rest of just noodling with ideas, but I was pretty run down not actively making anything that I was gonna release.
Then, about 3 or 4 months later I playes some Kentucky Route Zero and thought, "I can have a go at somehting like that". I had also just left my job working on quite a large narrative game so thought I could give it a shot.
That project was Getting There, which at time of writing is in the back end of development.
Tumblr media
As I worked on there, myself and another friend explored what would happen if I made Beehive into a proper full-time business and messed around doing some Software as a Service for game dev.
However, as I dug more and more into that process and I was doing more managerial stuff in my full time job, I realised that for something that I do for fun in my free time, the prospect of running a bigger company, having employees and all that jazz was fundamentally not what i wanted to do right now. Never say never in the future now.
Also, Software as a service tools was boring. Tooling is really important in game dev, but selling it as a product to others and supporting it is not somehting I wanted to do. I just wanted to make cool games!
It is also worth noting, company admin is both boring and can be horrendously stressful on a good day and there are a number of ways of screwing it up on seemingly simple things.
Tumblr media
So 2023, where is Beehive now.
Well apart from being sort of cyber-squatted by some company that is making a pokemon knock off we are focusing on PC and Switch games that I want to make and I feel passionate about!
Tumblr media
And when I say PC, in particular the Steam Deck. I grew up with handheld games and the Switch is probably the best console I have owned. I used to be very attached to all my handhelds, bu that is a whole
I realised that even though I do it every day, I will always want to make games outside my day job. And fundamentally there is something really satisfying making somehting start to finish with a low budget without various business reasons that can impact the end result.
That doesn't mean I would be unhappy if Beehive made loads of money off of one of my indie games, and that doesn't mean none of the games I am making will be unambitous. It is more I can work on them without worrying the whole company is gonna fall apart or i am gonna end up dead and broke on the street! I am slo not doing it alone. My favourite composer i get to work with is still involved and I get my mates who are interested involved wherever I can and where they want and have the bandwidth to help!
Apart from getting Space Haters and Getting There over the finish lines, I have a set of evening and weekend projects.
Evening projects require less "cognitive load" and can be chunked away at for like an hour. In this case, that is the Shiro remake, which we will see how long that takes.
Weekend projects require me to book some time out and think about them. My JRPG requires me to sit down and think more about the tools, systems, etc. They are games where I need to do a bit more research and figure stuff out. To put it bluntly, I already know how to make a Shmup, a Horror Game, a Stealth Game and a pixel-art zelda like so they are quicker and require less cognitive load and therefore I can handle them after a fulll day of work. JRPG and anything that requires with dealing with LotCheck, store releasing, etc needs some dedicated time booked out for it.
Wow this was a lengthy post. Anyway, I hope this was a relatively interesting reads. Apologies for any inevitable spelling mistakes I missed and yeah keep subscribing to my blog if you want to know more.
Thanks

January Update
Hey everyone and welcome to the new ones of you ♥ As usual, here’s a little update on what I’ve planned for this month on this blog and in my life.
Before we start though, I want to wish you all a happy new year and sending you the best vibes to carry you on ♥
Life update : As you may know or not, a lot has happened to me in the end of 2021. I actually lost my job and also ended the relationship I was during 6 years. This new year starts with a lot of things to do and handle at the same time so I’m taking few days to organize everything, this blog as well ^^
I’ve started to look for a new job but I can’t look for a new appartment until I get one so I hope to find one soon. I’m trying also to rest and relax during nights as my insomnia came back like a bitch ^^” So I actually have time to play and prepare some new stuff to come !
I actually played with Destiny and Leïla for the first time to discover the Uni pack. Something made it glitched so the girls couldn’t go to some of their classes and they spent most of their time working to get good grades ... Have to admit that it’s not my favourite EP (maybe the least favourite for now I think) but it was nice to see that Destiny started her carreer at rank 8/10 as a judge after graduated, it’s kind of cool when you play without cheats.
Since last week, I’m discovering Cottage Living with Soraya and Chester and *0* I love it !!! So far it’s my favourite EP : I love the animals, the world, the colours and peacefull universe it brings. I totally would love to live in a place like that ^^ It’s also not a surprise to notice that these two fit perfectly in this world and I’m enjoying a lot playing with them. I think I’m going to give them the peacefull life and see if I can maybe start a legacy just for me to play with sometimes.
Blog update : 2021 was a busy year for me so I had to delay DH2. Instead of that I also wrote Another Side and I really loved it ! 2022 will be more DH focused though, I promise !
As I told you before, I’m actually playing these days and enjoy it more and more. I’m still on DH2 as well don’t worry but I think I won’t be able to really work on it until I get my own home so let’s say for now it should be back around this spring/summer if everything turns out the way I want .
Until that, I think I’m just going to chill and have fun here. Post maybe more personnal stuff, more edits and maybe little DH random moments. I’m having a lot of fun with @samssims Mis Mix Tape challenge and I’ve planned to do more I’ve stocked in my draft for months. I’ve also decided to choose Sunday as a reblog day ‘cause I put a lot of things I like in my draft to reblog to not reblogging it the same time as everyone so I want to have a special day for it.
I don’t know if new cc are going to come honestly. For now, I still have to manage my computer storage capacity and creating cc takes a lot of storage so it’s not my goal at all this year. Writting and editing are my priorities sorry ♥
Here are some gameplay of SoSter living the Cottage life. You can notice that Chester is the happiest (he wanted the farm, she wanted the peace). I wanted to include Poupou with them but as she’s supposed to be Leïla’s dog, I kept them together. Don’t hesitate to tell me if you’d like to see more gameplay pics from cottage living or Uni . I took some with Des and Lee and have planned to take more with SoSter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that’s it ^^
Again, I wish you all the best year, thank you so so much for being here, interacting and all ♥ You’re a huge help every day ♥
Take very good care of you

oh! hi~ been a while~
i’m sorry that i said i was doing a short hiatus and then........never came back. at least, to tumblr/the sims community. i still been on twitter and instagram and twitch and stuff!
it’s funny because occasionally i would get emails about asks, emails about new followers etc and i’m like huh i really should either do something with my blog or deactivate it. but! i sometimes come back and read all the sweet old messages, read my embarrassing old gameplays and remember the fun i had just learning how to express myself online and come out of my shell.
i mean as embarrassing as i think of myself from only a few years ago, i really was an am super grateful for all the people i met and positive experiences I had! without one day deciding to run a sims blog and make gameplays and make edits and talk to people and interact i wouldn’t have: - met some of my first real internet friends - found my best friends in the world (all international too) - found my current partner (of 2 years now~!) - started to feel more confidence and less anxiety sharing myself and my art online - been able to start my online store for my art
cuz I was really in a pivotal place in my life when i started my blog! I’m sure this sounds cringe bc like...its a sims blog lol BUT I was a fresh uni graduate, i was in a relationship that i had been in most of my adult life and it was about to end, i had 2 irl friends and that was the length of my social circle. it’s so weird to see how far I’ve come and how far away all of that stuff was (and i only stopped posting here in feb2019 that’s only 1 pandemic worth of time plus a sprinkle).
anyway, last night i was like i should just wipe the blog. but then i read it... for a couple hours. and I dont have the heart to wipe it! i do actually still play the sims in my off time, which is really super rare nowadays (i work a day job and run my store) and i thought about dumping random screens from when i play just somewhere that isn’t gonna annoy everyone in my discord server lol. i’ll prob tidy stuff up here, prob change the url (used to be geekism, then simbytes. my main @ everywhere is minabytes, so for simplicity’s sake) ummm yeah~! this post is mostly for me, i’ll read it again in another 3 years and see how much further i am!
thanks for hanging around, if you read this! sorry to anyone who missed my stuff, and if you dont wanna hang around for once in a blue moon screenshots then it’s no biggie! but thanks for being there then and being here now 💗
