changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.
I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.
Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.
No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.
But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?

Erwin Smith
Things are... mostly the same as the were before for the most part. Not right away though because of course all the stuff with Rod Reiss, Historia, the man hunt for Survey Corps heads, and the fact Erwin was quite literally sentenced to death not that long after losing it so things were of course very hectic to where there wasn't really a good adjustment period until the two month preparation period to reclaim Shingashima.
It's a shame really, it was his dominant hand too, now all his paperwork is signed with a slight messiness to it he isn't exactly a fan of. But he makes do, relearning and rewiring how his brain works to make up for the lost limb. But even if he doesn't say it out loud, you know more than anyone exactly how hard it is for him - even if to so many people he has so many different airs and appearances to keep.
"Oh it's just an arm, a small sacrifice for the greater good of Humanity. Many good, amazing, talented people have lost more. This is a minor scratch compared to that."
That's what he told Nile that night over dinner together with you and Marie too after Erwin's charges had been offically cleared off the records. Truth be told, none of you at that table bought it, even if he really did intentionally mean it - you three knew him, and it was subtle but with how he struggled to pick up and properly use the fork in his sole surviving hand spoke all it need to. It was a very human struggle - one he did everything to hide.
He can't shave his face by himself anymore, he has trouble putting his uniform on every morning, he needs to relearn how to use ODM gear in a modified way, he has to do an awkward version of the salute now, he struggles with how to maneuver and get himself clean in the shower for the longest until he comes up with a routine on how to do it one handed, he still has enemies so he has to rewire how he thinks of defending himself, he has to learn how to deal with this odd... phantom feeling of his missing arm still being there like in the stories he'd hear from injured soldiers. It's all hard, but he manages, braves through but he's very thankful to have you and so many close others at his side that are willing to help him through it.
Also misses holding your hand. During a meeting with Queen Historia, her Majesty speaking excitedly about her plans to help out orphans - specifically those from Underground, as Levi had made sure to suggest - that as the core members of the Survey Corps stood in audience, he couldn't help but to glance over at where you stood at one side of him, nodding supportively along to Historia's desires about letting the children have fun on her new acquired farm lands, that does he stare at you - at your hand more specifically, as you are standing at his side with the dangling green military coat sleeve. It's rude, he knows, not paying attention as the Queen speaks about her noble causes but he finds himself not being able to help it. For just a second - and maybe, probably, he's deluding this - but for a second he feels the empty sleeve move on it's own to graze at your hand as to grab it - immediately gaining your attention as you stare over at him with your gorgeous eyes that every time he looks at him he falls in love all over again, over and over and the way your head questioningly tilts as if to ask him if something was wrong does his throat turn dry but his lips slightly part until-
A rough kick comes subtly to his paralleled ankle at his other side, Levi. The Captain doesn't look at him, he just keeps his arms crossed over his chest and intently listens to Historia's plans, however, he quietly scolds under his breath: "Pay attention."
Right... he was being very rude. He shouldn't get lost up in silly stuff like this in such important professional times such as these. But... when you suddenly reach over and hold onto the sleeve just as it were his flesh hand only weeks prior, so sincerely and lovingly... he can't help but the dumb smile on his face.
Everything will be fine. He's still the same man. There'll be struggle, some more getting use to - afterall, it's only been a couple weeks if not a month. There's plenty of recovery time in the future, he knows it. After Shingashima, he decides, maybe then he'll take some time off - spend with you and truly attune himself with the lacking arm. And maybe... maybe if he practices a bit first with his still lack of balance... he can still properly get down on his knees and take out that heavy ring in his breast pocket and ask you that question that's been on his mind.

Hanji Zoë
Going to be perfectly honest, the missing eye is the least of Hanji's issues at the moment. It's still a struggle, yes, the now partial blindness that they have to now wear a patch over and it takes a couple weeks to properly get accumulated and not bumping into walls, doors, tables, and other stuff on accident. But it becomes something that's like second nature to the new Commander very quickly on.
Now... the sight isn't the issue. The mountain of other things that came with Shingashima is, both mental and physical.
The obvious is the new Commander position, taking over Erwin's role puts so much on their shoulders and not just that - having to put on this brave face for the only - ten, including themselves, Survey Corps members that survived that bloodbath. They're in charge, everyone's looking up to them them for advice, for orders, for their command. Meanwhile... Hanji hasn't even had proper time to grief for not just one but two of their best friends... Erwin. Moblit... that first night was the roughest, coming back home, to their now old office and practically broke down crying where you had to comfort them all night - they didn't sleep for the next four days straight. They stayed cooped in that office while everyone else was on leave to go properly recover and only let you attend to them. Hanji isn't... the same after that - and everyone notices but doesn't dare to speak on it. They aren't the quirky titan-obsessed quack anymore. They were the calculating 14th Commander of the Survey Corps, Hanji Zoë.
Hanji is also particularly deaf in their right ear now, even if they were - mostly - uninjured from the Colossal Titan nuke, the sound of the impact definitely damaged it a bit before they were tossed in deep the well by Moblit. They've never said the fact out loud to anybody, only you and Levi are aware of the fact, but they read lips more often than not now. So you make sure you always make it able to where they can properly read your lips when you speak to them, and if you can learn a bit of sign language that would also be very helpful.
Doesn't sleep as much as they used to. They say it's because they're too busy - Commander work and still helping out ironing out political matters and issues that still came with Historia's crowing as the new Queen of the Walls and the hectic readjustment period of getting Maria's old settlements rebuilt and ready for resettlement - but that's not just it. There's the nightmares now. Keeping them awake just to not wake them up screaming in the middle of the night and you have to loose sleep comforting them. They should be fine with it, they tell themselves, after all what they said back on that roof to Mikasa was true; they've seen hundreds of their comrades die - no actually, not a hundred... too many more than that to count. And each time they've been strong about it... distracting themselves in their research not to let themselves dwell on it too long. But now... no matter how hard they tried, nothing worked. Maybe it's because it was Erwin and Moblit, the closest two other people they had besides you and Levi. Or maybe it's because only ten fucking people out of the entire fucking Regiment survived that damn day.
And now that the truth is out there, what titans actually are, titan research isn't fun anymore. They could very easily drag one in a captured area and poke amd prod and maybe learn a little bit more on how the transformation process actually works - Connie Springer's mother would be a good example but just looking at that boy they can't bring themselves to even suggest it - but they don't. They just... sign off on papers all day. Try not to think about overseas that much. Not yet anyway.
Things are slightly better by the time you've made contact with the volunteers and the core Scouts had made their way to embark on Marley. Seeing new sights, new people, new inventions none of you could possibly even dream of was quite thrilling. Hanji has a great time, holding onto your hand and sporadically yapping on and on about this "car," or this "tele - phone," or this "controllable electricity." in the exact same manner and way they use to about titans - that wide shit eating smile that goes from ear to ear plastered to their face for the first time in years you love to see as you nod along and just listen and let them ask Onyankopon every possible question that comes to their head - the man having trouble even keeping up with them. It's nice while it last... but it's not too long until the 14th Commander comes back when reminded about why you're all here in the first place...
It's late at night one night, the night before you were all supposed to go back to Paradis does Hanji stare up at the ceiling of your shared room in the Azumabito astate. They have their eye patch off - feeling comfortable around you for you to see the mangled socket that normally rests underneath - as they lie back in bed and listen to you shuffle around to get into your night-wear to get ready to join them.
"I'm thinking..." They finally speak, you look back over your shoulder at them - sprawled out on messy sheets with only wrapped circuit of bandages around their chest to hide the shape. "...I'm thinking that Armin should be my successor. What you think?"
You tell them he's a smart kid, very talented at what he does but... given, past history... you express your feelings that it might be a lot to put on him, given the position of it's weight. Erwin's weight. Erwin's impact. Hanji's impact.
Yeah, probably true, they tell you. And they reminisce on how they felt when Erwin had dropped the sudden bombshell on them... God. They were turning more into him everyday... but you crawl over to the bed and start to kiss their face before the Commander can sulk in it. You love them, you tell them that every chance you get and it never fails to leave a gentle look in Hanji's remaining eye, their expression softening. They joke, saying how much you probably miss the old up-beat crazy Squad Leader Hanji... but you shake your head, hands so loving on their face as you tell them straight up you love them now just as much as you did back then - damaged and all.
Without hesitation they ask you to marry them.

Levi Ackerman
Hard. Very hard at first. He can only particularly see, for the first year or so his stitches itch to a very grading degree, he has only eight digits on his hands where using the left is... very difficult, especially with his unique ways of holding things, and he can't walk. Humanity's strongest - that ridiculous title... now look at him. He "entered" the Survey Corps ten years ago and now every single person around him then is dead - except you. During those first few days of the Rumbling he didn't really think about it - with all the shit going on he had other things to think about than have time to really... process. But here he is now, couple days after the "Battle of Heaven and Earth," as he's hearing people call it. Now in his time to heal does it really set in. And at first he doesn't take it... well.
Once he's well enough to be off bedrest and he's in that "damn chairwheels," you and Onyankopon manage to buy him (hard to come by given how... very much damaged the world still is post Rumbling) you're going to have to have to keep your eye on him because for the first couple weeks he will try to get up and walk around - only damaging his hurt leg more. He feels restricted in it, he wants to go where he damn well pleases - you tried crutches for a while but... he's actually too short for the ones you manged to find post Rumbling, so he's left to that chair. It just takes him time to get use to, that's all. Eventually though, months after the Crisis has been over, it's when you start taking him out places - steering him through the rebuilding cities of Marley, talking about God knows what, that he starts to come around... maybe it's not that bad, annoying, sure, but he feels a lot calmer now. Those kids - Gabi and Falco, they help too. Sometimes they drive him around but he isn't exactly the biggest fan when they clumsily knock him into shit though but they're cute kids, they remind him a lot of much younger versions of Isabel and Farlan, how they'd bicker all the time...
The two of you have a cabin together in Marley, a nice cozy cabin that with the help of Onyankopon - who smuggily calls himself a bit of 'builder' - is modified a bit so that it's more accessible for Levi to move around, plenty enough ofvplace to roam so he doesn't feel couped up like he expressed he didn't want when getting the place. It's nice though, Levi's never had a real house before - only somewhat exception being that dingy little apartment he and Kenny used to live in Underground and then he lived with Farlan and Isabel in it too before joining the Corps. Besides that it's always just been either a whorehouse, military base, or temporary spots he wouldn't even shit in. All shared spaces. Not something that was... his. Though of course he lives with you, you are his s/o but you're different. No, he lived... with you. You own this house together. It's his. It's yours. It's yours (plural).
He can't clean as properly as he use to, getting down on the ground and scrubbing top to bottom and every single crack in the room, of course he can't do that anymore so - and to make him feel better, feel good and comfortable in your own home together you do it, you keep the place always spotless. And he still wants to actively clean of course, the process has always been therapeutic for him, he just can't do it as thorough as he once did but he still will do what he can from the confines of sitting down while you do all the very high and very low lifting.
His senses are still sharp, even with his half blindness. But even still, you always make sure to stand on his good side and if your on the blind you make sure to audibly announce your presence even if he could probably still sense you - Ackerman biology boosting it by tenfold, after all - you do it because it's polite and he does appreciate that.
Mostly handles things with his good hand anyway but is in the habit of dropping things whenever it comes to his less-good one, there's only so much you can do with only three fingers (including thumb) on one hand without being issues. It takes awhile before he even let's you hold that hand again and when he does the first several times he always hesitates, but it all flutters away when you carefully and gently intertwine your fingers with his good ones and your pointer and middle finger lovingly folds over his numbs. Or when you kiss delicately at each of his knuckles on that hand... it's weirdly sweet, weirdly romantic, he thinks.
It's been three years now. Domestic bliss is something Levi never thought existed - or he he did, never, never ever in his thirty-seven year life would he ever think he'd get to live such a thing. The two of you sit in front of the lake off to the side of your cabin, sitting on a lunch-bench watching on as Gabi and Falco are completely red in the face, awkwardly and loudly confessing their feelings to one another in only that embarrassingly sweet way teenagers could. It's sweet... to watch on. You look over and see the small, subtle yet warm, soft smile on Levi's lips. Proud of them, those two dumb kids that's been helping the two of you out for years now. You laugh, causing him to look over at you.
"What's so funny?"
"Nothing,"
The giggling in your chest dies down as you watch as the two kids untactfully bump their faces together in an attempted kiss but Falco jolts back holding his forehead in pain, and Gabi's face to turn an even darker red as she yells something at him.
"Do you think we're too old now to act like that?"
Grey eye rolls. "When have I ever acted like that?"
"Oh I can name quite the few times when we first first started dating-"
He suddenly grabs at your face with a: "Hush." before kissing you, the worn stitches on his lips against yours always feel nice. Then he leans back, staring at you with lingering thoughts before his eye flicks back over to the kids now sweetly in each other's arms.
"You know, I was going to ask you something today but those brats decided to go ahead and make it about themselves..." He says, no real malice in his voice, just teasing. But you tilt your head out of curiosity.
"Ask me what?"
He sits back on the bench and stares out onto the lake. His wheelchair is parked off to the side, it's in a bag. He could reach over and pluck it out now. It was something he actually picked out years ago... something he never thought he needed because he never expected to reach this point together with you but Hanji talked his ear off into buying it and Erwin gave him this... teasing encouraged look with that weird smile of his that he'll never forget for the rest of his life. And he's kept it with him, all the time, it's always been on him in some shape or form. Honestly he wasn't sure how you didn't manage to find it already.
He looks back over to you and you're still intently staring back over at him. Maybe. Maybe he still could now.
"Ask me what?"

re my lbr: it's so stupid that all the academic/studying/literary tags on this website are inundated with pictures of coffee and cafés. like yeah a lot of academics work in cafés and are addicted to coffee but c'mon just start a separate thing called cafécore or coffeecore or something. some of you really maybe don't like reading at all and maybe you should become one of those coffee bean enthusiasts and that's perfectly fine. i also think everything about the romanticization of academia/dark academia/etc is ridiculously stupid considering that academia is an extremely exploitative industry and anyone who has been in the education system should be thoroughly disenchanted with it and critical of the caffeine culture which perfectly illustrates how severely the people are overworked.
really a lot of dark academics on tumblr are just touting a nerdier form of grind mindset hustle culture. how is romanticising the drug addictions to nicotine and caffeine any different from finance bros or tech bros or jocks romanticizing cocaine or ritalin or steroids. depending on chemical substances to alter your brain because you physically cannot perform at the level you're holding yourself to (or being held to) is the perfect example of how patriarchal/hierarchical/capitalist cultures grind the lower classes into dust. note that i'm not talking about people who use these things responsibly to treat their disorders, i'm specifically talking about people who use substances to facilitate unhealthy 20 hour study/work sessions. stop glorifying being overworked & stressed out.
if you're a young adult or especially a teenager on these dark academia blogs please get out of that mindset quickly and realize that for a lot of people studying/work/output is just another form of self-harm/self-destruction. you should never tie your productivity or your grades to your self-worth. of course having good grades is a noble aspiration but there's also more to life and you must recognize that most educational institutions are not truly equal or just. seek accomodations if you need them, because any system that prioritizes productivity is usually pretty ableist and steeped in a hierarchical structure that promotes competition in unhealthy ways.
my wish is that we humans could all work less and instead live in egalitarian socieities void of hierarchies/patriarchy/competition - and the older i get, the more i realize how nefarious these things are and how they seep into every aspect of life, and how at odds i am with these structures not only as a female but as someone who has struggled from ableism and classism, both of which for me were manifested in educational difficulties from a young age which followed me into adulthood. anyway to clarify, i am passionate about academia (which is why i use academic tags on my blog) - but for me its a hobby, and i'll never glorify work, and i'll probably never monetize my passions, thereby avoiding having all the love sucked out of me. but i digress

i saw someone use this picrew (https://picrew.me/en/image_maker/1564386) to try recreating their tavs, and i wanted to give it a try (possibly also because im too lazy to draw them) in spirit of bg3 being released :D mind you these won't all be 100% accurate to in-game appearance but close enough alongside my personal envisions
i've only played as one of them in early access,, i may or may not have taken the time to plan the rest of my tavs for future gameplays LMAO yes i am that kind of person when it comes to rpgs🫡 the common thread between all of them is feeling out of place, and how each of them deal with it in their own ways
Tumblr media
ismene farahani-diamandis (she/her) my chaotic good human sorcerer in wild magic (i'm thinking about multiclassing paladin for her but idkk), my first tav and honestly kind of my favorite :') even created a backstory for her parents too. a catastrophe in more ways than one, but truly one of the most caring and fun-loving people, like a disney princess but just a bit more disastrous. a bit of a dreamer who longs to be loved and have adventure like the heroes in stories told by her father, but has often felt she cannot have both or either whether it was due to the utter though consistent bad luck when she tried or feelings of unworthiness because of others even when they did her wrong (aka a list of exes). she has lost most of her family outside her younger, paladin brother and distant noble family in mulmaster, who she has no interest in reaching after her mother's departure as a young adult with her father (it's a very long story involving a rogue noble and a wizard from a family of barbarians). first it was her father from an incident causing his memory then life to be slowly eaten away, her younger sister the one time she was far from home to a village raid, then her own mother the minute she garnered a name for herself as a hero amongst the people. she has since felt a lost sense of purpose, having no family or loved ones to put first having been the eldest sibling for so long, and strong guilt in wanting to pursue more with the unpredictable yet wondrous abilities she was born with, as she has felt she has failed to use them to save precious lives time and time again
even so, ismene is someone who chooses and wants to do good or the best possible thing no matter what challenge stands ahead and hopes that despite everything, she can find a way to be her happy, flirty self once again. trying to make the most of the brain worm situation and genuinely aspires to befriend all in her party, even though most of them prove difficult. lucky for her, if shes anything, shes stubborn enough to keep trying anyways in her newfound but chaotic family--it's almost refreshing to be in a band of fellow disasters. really stuck on either astarion or halsin for her romance because i think story-wise, her and astarion in my brain just are really interesting dynamically and have been in EA, but halsin would probablyyy be her most ideal partner (cause she honestly deserves at least one stable part in her life LMAO) but HEY---MAYBE THEY CAN POLY *if* larian allows it, her mbti/enneagram is ENFP 7w6
Tumblr media
amée tanor'thal (she/her) will be my second playthrough, a neutral good seladrine drow cleric of selûne in the life domain. her backstory is probably my favorite amongst everyone, she's actually the mother of my first and only d&d character that i got to play about a year ago now :D i already had her story in mind alongside her daughter (obviously), and thought bg3 would be a good opportunity to play as her. she's always been more reserved and cautious in nature, someone who always tries to consider things beyond how they're presented in front of her. the inquisitiveness is what led her to learn more beyond her corrupt family, religion, and the normalized suffering within her home at the tanor'thal manor in skullport, she went through a lot to escape from it. initially, it was her and a group of hidden eilistraee followers in the city who she planned an escape route with, amée had met them through a boy around her age that she befriended on one of her secret escapades. they opened her to the possibility of a world filled with joy---with light, a life that the underdark, her own family would consume and make impossible for anyone to have. unfortunately, the heavy security made the journey abruptly take a turn for the worse. amée wound up separated from everyone as they continued the planned path, whilst she wound up chased by her own family on a completely different one; she barely escaped with her life. she followed a path of stars, scared and unsure, and it wound up leading her to a church of selûne in waterdeep where she was kindly taken in for sanctuary.
upon learning more and speaking with the clerics and daily visitors, choosing to serve her and the philosophy of having choice and helping to guide those who are lost, amée is a rare and often misunderstood person in the church. it is something she is aware of but is far more concerned in carving a path of peace for all those who need it---especially misunderstood folk of the underdark. despite her gloomy appearance, she is easily one of the most compassionate souls, one who has sworn to devote her life to healing instead of hurting, though she may or may not have had to kill off most of the family sent to the surface to take her life, including her own mother. needless to say, she'll spill a bit of blood here and then and maybe roll with all the evil goons who give her easy access because they think she's evil too. she's a bit funny and often direct, albeit unintentionally. anywho, she'll be romancing gale, who will not only engage her in intelligent conversation but in a child-like wonder through magic after devoting much of her life to her personal cause. i also feel like his romance route has the potential to be veryy angsty cause of his magic chest bomb so. sorry amée. her mbti/enneagram is an INFJ 1w2 :)
Tumblr media
fynn tranquilfoot (they/them) will be my third playthrough, a true neutral rock gnome monk specializing in the way of the shadow. from a relatively normal family in comparison to a lot of my own characters tbh LOL, they stem from a gunsmith family business that has flowed for generations in a city full of fellow gnome entrepreneurs and inventors. fynn never flowed well with it and was rather easily overwhelmed by it at an early age. as a kid they expressed no genuine interest in anything really, and instead preferred doing nothing, so long as they were allowed to be alone. it was something that did not sit well with their family. fynn was to carry the mantle of their success, history, and more children to keep things going, which did not, in fact, sit well with them no matter how many of their peers in the same family dynamic gushed about their shared lifestyles and destinies. it was yet another thing they could not relate to, among other things being thrust upon them as labels they never asked for; fynn quickly became the talk of their town. they never cared to argue against them or their parent's complaints; "better to play dead to stay alive", then nothing could truly nag at them. however, if there was something that gnawed at them at all, it was a distinct lack of purpose. they had spent so long doing nothing to the point it almost felt depressing to not be really good at anything; it was one boat ride away that allowed fynn to venture around the mainland and see entirely different things.
one day they saw a monk stealing a noble of all they had in only five seconds, asked how they could do what they did and the rest is history. they went to the same temple, learned the same techniques, and found they were quite good at all of it. fynn knew that sometimes the assassination gigs weren't the most morally correct, or that even when it was they wouldn't get any credit for the deed, and they were content with that. fynn is not someone who has any desire to be remembered and is passionate about the life they've led for themselves and protecting that peace it gave them. they're a rather smart and self-aware individual, and quite understanding as they're not very judgemental. isn't opposed to knowing their party, but has no plans of sticking around at the end either, while the parasites possible power to heighten their prowess at work is intriguing, they're aware that trusting its stability in the long run is likely dumb (but somehow they aren't exactly opposed). plan to romance them with wyll : ) i think his desire to have purpose vs. their lack of desire for one will somehow end up complimenting and opening each other up. their mbti/enneagram is ISTP 9w8

meet magdalena (or mags for short) of berdusk (any pronouns are fine), a chaotic neutral half-orc school of valour bard, and the physical embodiment of the term "here for a good time, not a long time". her story is relatively simple and feel-good in comparison to my other tavs, and i already know i'll end up having the most fun playing him aside from ismene LOL her human dad and orc mom are easily the best parents anyone could ask for, endlessly supportive and loving to whatever their child would choose to do or be as they navigated what he liked and didn't, even though their collective eccentric personalities made them stick out like sore thumbs even in a populated city like berdusk. nonetheless, neither of her parents really cared what people thought so inevitably, he didn't either and in turn became an unapologetically confident and outspoken person. mags learned music from her initially nomadic parents, who traveled all over faerûn sharing their own music, dances and stories, and it became yet another thing they inherited and completely loved. the more he wrote, composed, and sang while playing her father's harp, the stronger mags' music undeniably became, practically wooing anybody that came near it---even those who picked on every surface-level thing about him became unable to deny the magnetism (get it) magdalena of berdusk possessed. they enlisted into a bard academy, attending for years until magdalena found the curriculum to be severely boring, leaving only a year before they would have graduated.
her parents, of course, cheered them on.
so from then on, magdalena felt the rest of faerûn was ready to hear his songs, constantly writing while on the roads, fighting weird shit, performing at nearly every tavern she could find (and shagging only the finest of folk on the way). no matter what though, mags always makes sure to find the time and place to write to her parents no matter where he is and even with a creepy crawly worm in his brain. the situation doesn't necessarily phase them aside from the fact the idea of a worm in her brain skeeves her out a bit, like what if it lays eggs or something? she doesn't exactly understand the full circumstance. other than that, mags is content with chilling with these newfound travel partners of his and seeing where the course takes them, and even if he is to die inevitably she hopes that by the end of it, he'll have a sick ass album to compile before they can. she truly enjoys to savor and experience, so naturally i'm pairing them with shadowheart of all people LOL they'll probably soften each other up. also probably only gives into the tadpole for a while in exchange for the wicked sex dreams until their gf is like "alright you goob can you maybe stop before it kills you faster". mags is an ESFP 8w7 !!

last but not least is zaludra strombjörn (she/her), a lawful neutral wood elf enchantment wizard. omfg shes honestly such a sourpuss LMAO she'll end up likely being my most "evil" route (and by that i mean i have a hard time making mean choices in game lol), but she'll also end up having the most significant development. from a young age, zaludra never had the easiest time connecting with others, and wasn't really allowed to due to her condition. albinism wound up giving her severely overprotective parents who didn't even let her skin go near where sunlight pierced the ground. thus her whole childhood essentially was this reinforced idea that she was deadweight, something that didn't do wonders for her self-esteem as she was unable to directly contribute to anything in her village. in the silence, zaludra only grew a resentment for her home and the situation she was in, only finding more things to dislike about the wooden elf's way of life.
the only time she felt any sort of gratification was in occasional conversations with the only person who would talk to her outside of her parents, her village's sole druid. their magic captivated zaludra, the ability to be anything else, to be something great was---and begged to learn their ways. unfortunately, a severe lack of connection to her people or home made it impossible, and zaludra was back where she started. so, she resorted to other means of obtaining the art of magic; zaludra would venture the nights in the nearest town over in magic shops draped in whatever cloth could cover her skin, checking out basic spell casting books from the local libraries. the more she practiced magic in secret, the more determined she became to be the best in it. overtime it became clear zaludra was a natural genius in the arcanic arts, even learning to craft potions as well, concoctions of her own to make her condition easier to live with rather than hiding in shame because of it. she left her home publicly declaring it beneath her and the potential it had hidden her from and set off to further her education in the city of silverymoon where she only continued to succeed.
she would prove everyone wrong she thought, all of them, including the people who should have supported her the most---her own parents. but highkey though shes super lonely but basically represses that with her undying ambition, but then city and school life makes her highkey more annoyed by other people (likely because she had no clue how to connect with them but dont tell her that). probably will want to learn how to control the tadpole at first for her own power until she starts to unexpectedly not hate her companions, especially karlach because a fine ass tiefling solves everyones emotional problems <3 also i hc that her and astarion get confused as siblings/twins all the time cause of how similar they look she probably hates it. also shes an ISTJ 3w4
anyways thats all IM STILL WAITING ANXIOUSLY FOR THE RELEASE AS WE SPEAK

Book Review 42 – The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Naylar
Tumblr media
I honestly forget the specifics of the recommendation that made me toss this on my TBR pile, but I’m glad I finally got around to it. The book’s, I think, something of a noble failure, but that’s more a compliment than an insult. It tries to do enough and is reaching for big enough themes that its reach exceeding its grasp is hardly fatal.
The book’s set somewhere in the late 22nd century or so, in a world where climate just wasn’t apocalyptic but it sure does seem to have made things a lot shittier. The geopolitics are only vaguely sketched out, but everything all feels rather cyberpunk, down to the city-states and megacorporations with de facto extraterritoriality. The book’s primary plot follows Dr. Ha Nguyen as she’s hired by an incredibly sinister megacorporation to study what is potentially a species of octopus that has evolved to near-human levels of intelligence and social culture, aided by the world’s only android and a mercenary whose army of drone killbots keeps the perimeter secure. Two secondary plots running in tandem on alternating chapters follow Eiko, an abducted slave laborer on an industrial fishing trawler chasing the world’s last reserves of accessible maritime protein, and “Bakunin”, a hacker in Astrakhan hired by a contact right out of Shadowrun for the most difficult job of his life.
So the book is overwhelmingly concerned with communication or, especially, the difficulty and failure that accompanies attempts at it, and how vital connection and reaching out beyond oneself is anyway. It’s woven into pretty much every character arc and every plotline in a way that manages to keep form coming off as heavy-handed or didactic, which is honestly an incredible aesthetic accomplishment. It also doesn’t soft peddle things – connection isn’t portrayed as any sort of panacea, and real communication is hard, even when everyone involved is trying their best and approaching it in good faith. The last note of the octopus plot is not the creation of a working translator, or even a successful exchange of messages, but really just the successful exchange of the idea of messages, and the establishment of some sort of relationship between a human and an octopus.
Sort of related to that, the book’s also very big on the idea of connection, of being tied up in vast systems and affected by choices on the other side of the world by people you’ve never heard of who probably weren’t thinking of you at the time. There’s the two subplots, of course – and this is the rare occasion where having three stories running in tandem and only really intersecting at the very end feels like it really does work for me. But more directly there’s a great deal of time spent on the nature of an octopus’ intelligence and how each arm is almost an autonomous agent only intermittently checked and directed by the central brain – and how this is analogous to the latest and greatest generations of drone networks slowly revolutionizing the world, and to the nature of the corporations and institutions which dominate the world. This is doubly underlined, in something that’s just barely on the edge of too on the nose for me, by the fact that the automated trawler that has abducted Eiko and is eventually destroyed trying to intrude on the island sanctuary Ha is working on, is owned by a subsidiary of the same corporation that enforced the sanctuary and hired Ha in the first place.
Which is where the books starts running into issues, at least for me. Near the book’s climax, Ha has something of a revelation about violence; that it’s not exactly useful to resent or feel disgusted by the security officer keeping their island isolated and uncontaminated by destroying any of the automated trawlers that intrude on the perimeter, no matter how many slaves on board are killed in the process – after all, all her work relies upon exactly that violence, that her whole world is build on such violence as a matter of course. Something the book then just kind of, fails to ever really resolve, or do anything with? There’s the idea that this is bad and important to stop, but the book ends with everyone just, choosing to do so?
This is kind of tied into the wider issue of how the main plot resolves at all. The book had thoughtfully and carefully written itself into a corner, having clearly explained how the only reason why the megacorporation paying for the island to be kept as a nature preserve and these potentially intelligent octopoids to be studied was because they might be useful later on – because they might be studied and vivisected and pulled apart so that the understanding of their intelligence might fuel further advances in artificial intelligence. Dr. Mínervudóttir-Chan, the genius-CEO of the company, is something of an ideological nemesis to Ha, and the book’s themes generally.
And this is resolved by, well, basically a deus ex machina? The Buddhist Republic of Tibet, thanks to a monopoly on a particular advance in drone networking one of the wealthiest entities in the world, launches a hostile takeover of Mínervudóttir-Chan’s company and seizes the island to establish a true sanctuary, where all are welcome and no exploitation will occur (Mínervudóttir-Chan herself is helpfully killed in a conveniently random act of meaningless interspecies violence). They seem driven to do this entirely by pure idealism, with the book giving no signs that we’re meant to be skeptical of this theocratic nation state with an economy-driving military-industrial complex or the purity of its motives. I could go on about this, but lets just say that the unevenly applied cynicism rang a bit false to me, in a way that fundamentally weakened the book’s whole resolution a great deal. Enough to take this from one of my favorite reads of the year to something that I still very much enjoyed but was left pretty deeply unsatisfied with, anyway.
Speaking of cynicism – the book’s characterization of conservation was (all-loving Buddhist cybernetic kill-teams aside) surprisingly sharp and bitter? The two visions of it the story provides are either a formality that exists only on paper, with underpaid rangers enthusiastic participants in the lucrative smuggling of whatever rare species are being conserved and whose trade is the by far the most vital part of the local economy, or else something imposed from a distant center with overwhelming force, and local human inhabitants being forcibly deported or harshly punished to preserve the nature park for the benefit of outside money and power. Was an interesting sort of perspective on the subject, anyway.
As a stylistic note, this book made probably the best use of the whole ‘start each chapter with a quote from an in-universe text’ conceit I’d every seen. Each chapter starts with an excerpt from one of two texts – How Oceans Think, a work of speculative and philosophical xeno-neurology that made Ha’s career and made her the specialist brought in for the plot of the book, and Making Mind, the pop science memoir by Mínervudóttir-Chan detailing her creation of Evrim (the aforementioned world’s first real android). They both serve double duty as wonderful bits of characterization for each character (Making Minds provides several times as many words by or features Mínervudóttir-Chan as her actual appearance in the narrative, something which I’m inclined to call a bit of a failure, otherwise) and establishing the sort of thematic dialectic at the core of the book.
I’m especially fond of the fact that Mínervudóttir-Chan’s never really made a cartoon villain or personally vicious. She’s a genius, driven woman, heroic in the classical, world-remaking sense. And what she wants (needs, really) is mastery over the world. You don’t have to be personally cruel or ill-intentioned for that to leave the world a ruin around you. She is, frankly, exactly the sort of monster I’d have loved to spend a book in the head of.
Evrim as a character was also fascinating. Partially just because I am always an incredibly easy mark for alienated and isolated inhuman intelligences being portrayed as sympathetic-to-heroic, and both the fantasy and terror of a literally perfect memory is an amazing central trait for a character. But also there’s a conversation between them and Ha about what it means to be human, and Ha’s proposed answer – to participate in the shared symbolic world of humanity, or something like that – seems elegant enough I’m probably going to steal it for some thing.
Anyway, yes, generally loved the book, sadly to a large degree the final resolution let everything that was building up to it down. Still would call it a worthwhile read, though. It’s thematically cohesive without being overly didactic in a way I find elegant and pleasing, and don’t necessarily see much in a lot of genre fic.

HEARTSICK - a twst vampire au by ridhearts
Hi and welcome to my vampire au!! I LOVE vampires but I always kind mishmash the lore together because I view them as whatever gets me going the most and not what’s most accurate to traditional lore (or lore taken from other media). This work will probably forever be a WIP - as in, I’ll probably always be down to write more works and add in lore/fix any inconsistencies that come with the evolution of the au - but this is the groundwork I’m working with. It’s also written as a “notes as a i think of them” type deal, but future works will (mostly) be written as ACTUAL works. (except headcanons because those tend to come out conversationally too. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN) Regardless, I hope you enjoy!!
CW (major themes that will be present throughout the entire AU):  blood, death, stalking/hunting, religious imagery, dark/obsessive/possessive characters. this au is not NSFW, but it does deal with darker content and sometimes discusses sensuality and sensual topics. reader discretion is advised.
Tumblr media
(This is a combination of inspiration from Twilight, The Sims, Vanitas no Carte, and the horniest part of my brain. Vampires here don't exist to make sense, they exist to be SEXY!) (yes this work is SFW)
Vampires exist and have wandered among the human realm since the earliest parts of recorded history. There is a parallel universe from which the vampires herald from, one nearly identical to Twisted Wonderland aside from the eternal night and stronger presence of magic in all its citizens. Although there are plenty of newer vampires within, a majority of the old-school vampires (especially those without coven-related responsibilities) live within this parallel world.
Covens
There are seven major covens (maybe more/might tweak if I decide to add in RSA to this business) that interact with the human realm, though smaller and more distant covens certainly do exist with varying degrees of influence. These covens have more social influence than they do political. Vampires belonging to a coven can live anywhere, but they tend to stay in the same area (or, at least, VERY geographically similar areas). It varies from coven to coven what the expected relationship between covenhood and personal identity should be - some are very tight-knit, while others are more casual. Vampires cannot change which coven they are a part of, but they can sort of disown their belonging to it. It also varies from coven to coven if they will be allowed back in, should they wish to return.
Vampire World Politics
SO I don’t have a specific, in-depth vision of the vampire legislative body, just vibes. I imagine it as the typical fantasy vampire government, something of a mix between lords, ladies and nobles, a mystical and terrifying all-seeing council, and smaller local governments. However, I do imagine The Council to preside over matters regarding the preservation of the vampire realm and interactions with humans. As vampires don’t usually die, at least, not of old age, most of the members have been in their seats for thousands of years and hold rather outdated views of the human realm. They are caught up in vampiric superiority and the bloody days of vampire hunters and free-for-all vampire feasts. The members are widely unknown yet greatly feared.
There is one title given to a vampire with a vast control over magic, the Keeper. For a while, it has stayed within one vampiric bloodline, as magic flows heavily through their veins. This vampire is tasked with controlling the flow of magic throughout the realms. I imagine magic as a natural resource that replenishes over time, but the Keeper has to both ensure the regeneration is sustainable compared to the overall use AND prevent any natural buildup from having negative side effects on either realm.
Vampire Info
Two types of vampires exist: true vampires and turned vampires. True vampires are those who were created from evil spirits, victims of particularly sorrowful or destructive deaths, and more. Turned vampires are just as it sounds - former humans who have been turned by vampires. (True vampires can certainly have “biological families.” Sometimes they can procreate, sometimes they make vampires from a troubled soul, an inflated ego and a bit of magic. There are some covens and some general vampiric traditions that favor direct heritage of power or status, and while some allow for looser interpretation and count turned vampires, most of the time it stays within the “bloodline.” Vampires don’t really count on dying - perhaps arrogance is a side-effect of immortality - but the idea of a vast legacy is certain tempting to some. Others undertake large jobs or projects and just want a like-minded individual to help. Each vampire is different.)
All vampires can voluntarily have basic bodily functions (breathing, heartbeats, etc) in order to blend in. They can eat, too, as long as the food doesn't have garlic (though some covens with a closer relationship to humans only have a mild allergic reaction to it as opposed to a severe, deadly one). Some turned vampires find this comforting. However, it always seems off to the trained ear - heartbeats seem too slow, or too loud…breaths seem too shallow, or are held for too long….and vampires are always so cold. Vampires can also store blood for long periods of time - if they plan on turning a vampire, they often stock up so their new “friend” can have the first drink they’ll be craving.
The older and more accustomed to the human world a vampire is, the more they can be in the sun as long as it doesn’t make direct contact. Long clothes, big hats, powerful sunscreen and plenty of businesses to duck into or trees/caves to hide around mean vampires can spend a good portion of the day outside. It is unbearably uncomfortable though, almost itchy, or feeling as if something is crawling on you. New/young vampires can barely stand being out under the full moon, the mere reflection too powerful to withstand.
Vampires are capable of magic, and humans who have been bitten repeatedly or almost drained can also have a weak aptitude for magic. Vampires all have heightened senses, strength, etc compared to humans, though among their own kind these traits can still vary. Some vampires have a natural gift for certain types of magic or enhanced traits - for example, Vil and Rook both have increased aptitude for seduction and their venom is very potent. (Vampires have venom which can be used to soothe their prey (it’s an aphrodisiac) and can also be used to turn humans. It’s a magic that is intertwined with their beings, so intent is enough to decide whether or not a human will be turned. This magic takes hundreds of years to develop (into vampire young adulthood), so newly turned vampires and young vampires usually feed on animals until this happens.) While vampires do have a natural aptitude for some types of magic, there are general practices like potion making, magical first aid, etc etc that any vampire can learn at any time if they so please.
When Turned
Almost instantly, the fangs begin to grow in, which hurts a moderate amount. An intense bloodlust takes over, so the vampire that turned the human should have a pre-prepared supply of blood ready. Fledglings must be kept indoors and away from windows for many moon cycles and kept out of direct sunlight for decades. During this time, their blood needs to be taken to them. They should not be left fully on their own until their venom has entirely developed. The former human and vampire usually have a special bond once the turning is complete. No ritual is required to turn a human, but there are rituals to strengthen the bond between the turned and the turnER or to determine the nature of that bond. Turned vampires can turn humans once their venom is developed.
Relationship With Humans
The history of vampire-human relationships is long, messy, and wrought with complications, contradictions and resentment over festering wounds. There have been many wars, many dark periods where vampires feasted on humans without a care for their value, and just as many dark periods where humans hunted vampires, unwilling to see them as anything other than creatures of massacre.
Over time, these relations have gotten better, where the two kinds are mostly able to cohabitate. Many people know Vampires exist, but if the coven nearest to their location is reclusive or doesn't feed on humans, many people also believe them to be myths. it depends on the relations between the humans and vampires in their area. Vampires control themselves more when hunting humans - if ever they do, they rarely kill or turn them. (Some covens and individuals have more control than others, of course.) Vampire hunters do exist, mostly called to rural areas where there is less protection or a more religious culture that demands the expulsion of the creatures. Rural vampires are usually the ones who fall into the vampire stereotype, evil and reclusive and looking for humans to turn. Urban vampires often seamlessly integrate into the bustling nightlife and only expose their fangs when it’s useful.
Romantic vampire/human relationships are not illegal, but it does get….complicated. Especially if there is an expectation of childbirth on the human. Even if not, with the lifespan and lifestyle differences…most of the time, these end in the human being turned and the relationship resuming once they’ve fully come into their vampire powers.
Older vampires, and older vampire covens that have not been transferred to new leadership, tend to have a stronger connection with the homeworld and a stronger animosity towards humans. Younger vampires assume they’ve just seen some horrible things in the past, but perhaps there is a bigger plot brewing that nobody knows about yet…

i’m not about to draw a minimum of twelve entire pictures but i wanna do this anyway (i guess i could just edit the images in there but that’s lame lol)
•my favorite gym leader is probably either tulip or clay! something about tulip i just always found very endearing and respectable and i love clay’s no-nonsense attitude and sheer strength. plus he gets bonus points for his daughter being lacey
•fav champion is clearly volo. like how could you not classify that as a champion fight. that was so freaking hard man. runner up goes to kieran though bc he was also really hard for me. but of course if we’re talking official true pokémon league champions then cynthia
•fav elite four member has gotta be lacey. i adore her. first time i’ve ever lost to the same opponent multiple times in a fair fight (aka being prepared and on-level). she’s sooo cute and fun! she also terrifies me severely
•favorite protagonist is akari no surprise there. la does such a good job of making it clearly important why the protag is the protag. it offers a legitimate in-universe explanation as to why this one child in particular is so much more powerful than all the others. out of place in time and space, literally chosen by a god… the way certain characters question her humanity, both in a good and evil way… it’s so good
•favorite rival… well pokémon fans use the term rival really loosely. it can mean any friend character that you battle for funsies even once. it can mean literal arch nemesis. idk. arven stole my heart with his story but i don’t consider him a rival like most people do so that goes to cheren. i love his story and he has also mopped the floor with me several times
•favorite antagonist is also volo next question. i’m sick in the head about him. n is a strong and clear second place obviously though. i’ve done enough rambling on here about them
•professor laventon is the guy ever he feels like he actually personally cares about akari so much. that’s her dad. the way he’s actively involved in plot stuff, he accompanies the team on field missions even when he really doesn’t need to… he’s always there. you see him a lot. and he’s clearly writing the pokédex entries himself and they’re absolute gold. but seeing as professor is also a broad term because they’ve been really breaking up the older tradition in recent games, i nominate director clavell as second place bc i respect the guy a lot. that old man (tm) enjoyer here
•fav battle facility leader… well. i don’t really have one bc i’ve done very little with the battle facilities in the two games i’ve played that had them lol. so i guess throwaway answer is ingo but mostly for pla reasons. actually i think he counts as a battle facility leader in pla with the daybreak update and i’ve done some of his stuff so he does in fact count for me
•for fav clan member i’m gonna say arezu i like her a lot. she tried doing the right thing in a very chaotic way and i respect her for her efforts. plus her design is cute and she gives great haircuts and her noble is adorable
•character from other media… well i’m obsessed with the way n is portrayed in pokespe. perfect blend between sad prettyboy and freak behavior. they just made everything so intense. and i love oshawott from poképark 2 with the way he’s trying so hard to be serious and cool but snivy keeps getting on his nerves lol. that’s the reason i chose oshawott in pla bc that was the only of those pokémon i recognized
•i’m classifying arven as miscellaneous bc like i said i don’t consider him a rival but MAN!! man… this guy just got shortchanged so many times but i’m glad he was able to get closure for his parents’ disappearance and death and that he can move on and just live his own life. also certified dog lover moment
•top fav character… yeah you all know it’s volo LOL. completely shrimp fried my brain. the absolute hyperactive high i was on when he revealed himself. made even more insane bc i had literally been spoiled that he was a twist villain but i had no other context so i was just waiting the whole game for him to be evil. imagine the sinking in my gut when the credits rolled and it didn’t happen i thought i’d been embarrassing myself the whole time but then the postgame punched me in the gut HARD. i thought he’d end up being like the sad sympathetic frenemy guy where you don’t really want to fight him but NOPE full on evil full on he was just using you. made even better by the context that he had been your biggest fan throughout the whole game while everyone else had been suspicious of you. i lost my entire mind. once again second place to n though

Ok I love your posts about Earthspark Shockwave, and it sparked (funny word play) my interest and got my brain going.
I can't quote to much just because I haven't gotten a hold of most of the dialog from the show. But Shockwave makes several comments about Decepticon's ruling over the autobots and basically putting into place another class system. In a lot of interpretation of Megatron, he moves away from his noble cause at the start of the war to become a more tyrannical war lord. While I can't say if or how Earthspark Megatron does thus himself, given the lack of content for Megatron during the ladder half of the war, but I'm just going to assume that at some point he did stray away from the original idea of the Decepticon cause.
Shockwave making so many comments about being better than humans/terrains/autobots makes sense if Megatron had started to preach that during his time as the Decepticon Leader. Megatron telling him that he missed the point of the cause, from Shockwave's Pov can seem like he is being hypocritical.
It seems like Megatron changed quite a lot after he switched sides, given that so many characters are literally furious over the actions of their former Leader. Shockwave seems to have almost taken up the mantel of the cruel overlord that I'm assuming Megatron had started to become (Soundwave is also acting quite similar to that as well, possibly backing up the idea of Megatron being a different person during the war). Megatron seems to have had a quite close relationship with both the waves, given that they are both the most upset about him changing sides.
Smaller thing I noticed was that Shockwave had his canon arm changed, it's now a grappling claw (that can somehow read minds???). It is a rather strange change to have made, I'm not sure what the reason behind that but it's almost like they toned down his violence of his character...
Not sure if it matters but it made me think. Anyway, have a good rest of your day!
hi hi hi!!! omg I love more people sending their thoughts my way :D I LOVE SPARKING (tehe) PEOPLE'S THOUGHTS!!
So, in the episode Shockwave doesn't necessarily... quote the idea of making a new class system outside of "conquering the Earth" and having the Autobots "kneel before them" - which I suppose can be implied to be creating a new class system, yes, but not necessarily overtly. It does sound very much like he's quoting Megatron's own words that he used in the past - and you can kind of... still see those beliefs in Megatron himself sometimes. (See Decoy and Age of Evolution part one wherein Megatron is not so subtly mistrustful of humans, and lowkey seems to resent the idea of treating them as equals/partners. I think his interactions with Dot changed him and his opinions of humans quite a bit, but I think he still harbors some mistrust and some of those "humans are lesser" feelings without necessarily meaning to - especially when confronted with the way they mistreat his own people.)
So, yeah!! I do think a lot of Shockwave's feelings towards the Terrans and Humans are moreso borne from anger, indifference, and a little bit of echoing what he thought Megatron and the Decepticons had been fighting for this entire time - following the leader, so to speak - and so I can definitely see him thinking of Megatron's sudden change of heart as overtly hypocritical. Megatron doesn't seem to like to talk very much about his past as a "warlord", and I think it's because he recognizes just how much he has changed compared to how things were a few years ago... It's gotta be jarring for bots like Shockwave and Soundwave - who probably changed and grew (for the worse) alongside him for all these years - to see him so... different? And so unlike what they knew him as before. I think they're just as equally mislead as Megatron had been, but they're not so easily swayed because it's harder for them to admit that they'd essentially wasted their lives fighting for the very same thing they wanted to tear down, and had spent hundreds of years following in the footsteps of someone who wasn't worth following. It's literally losing everything. Megatron had Optimus to confide in and follow and learn from - but who do the others have if not Megatron himself? Each other - misguided or not. So they end up funneling that... confusion into just straight up denial and hatred towards Megatron for "betraying" them when... they should've seen the signs of a tyrant from the very beginning, ESPECIALLY as his closest confidants, lieutenants, and friends.
About his grappling claw... it does still act like a cannon if he wants it to, but I think it may have also been a weird play on the cortical psychic patch? Like, taking the idea of Shockwave's "greatest invention" and actually incorporating it into his character design itself, so it's not a separate invention anymore but rather like... part of his person. I think it's cool! It's definitely different, though, and I think it doesn't nnnnecessarily make him "less violent" but rather... makes him more dangerous in a different kind of way. Imagine if TF:P Shockwave could've just jacked into Ratchet - or any of the Autobots - whenever he wanted instead of dragging them back to base first. That would be SUPER overpowered!!! I think Earthspark Shockwave is definitely dangerous and should not be underestimated.

I originally started following after the first trolls movie.
You haven't posted trolls in the while and maybe you don't keep up with the media at all.
but if you do, it would scratch an itch in my brain.
What do you think of Guy Diamond's son, Tiny Diamond? Like Jade vs Tiny Diamond is kind of a whiplash huh?
What do you think of branch's brothers????? I'm just so curious b/c ur headcanon content is very tasty to me.
Haha! All of my trolls brainrot has been effectively purged. The kind of things that I'm interested in have varied so far elsewhere that I really can't sink my teeth into this franchise the way I did when I was 19. Its a universe that doesn't really take itself all that seriously and functions on saccharine surrealism, which is fun to watch for an hour and a half, but I can't really get invested in it. Its just not what I vibe with anymore. And if I'm just not interested in staying long in the world the characters inhabit, I'm just not gonna think about it much.
But! I do watch the new trolls movies when they come out, mostly cuz I love Poppy and Branch and its always nice to see them again. I appreciate that they've remained three-dimensional characters throughout all three films, and their wide range of emotions are taken seriously, in spite of the overall goofy tone of the movies. And as I said, the world itself can be fun to sit in for an hour and a half.
Nobody needs to know my overall thoughts on trolls 3. But the short version is that I didn't really like it and will probably never watch it again. But there was a lot of talented designers, writers, animators etc. involved and I like to appreciate the bits of magic they brought to it.
Tiny Diamond is....certainly a bit. His character is just. Being a bit. It's not a bit I find all that funny (baby with a grown man voice), so I really don't feel anything about it. Except for Guy Diamond giving birth out of his head, like the King of the Gods, producing his noble daughter Athena. I feel a lot of indescribable emotions about that.
Diversity win! The trolls franchise has mpreg!
Anyway, point is, Tiny Diamond was the first of MANY characters that the sequel films fired at us. It's made it all feel....a bit crowded. There's just a lot of bitches to keep track of. And they dump all of them out in front of you in the span of one film that it's hard to get particularly attached to any of them.
I don't even have anything to say about Jade, except I was transparently more into the characters than the world when I was 18/19. Jade was an OC that existed (almost) solely in the Human AU. I didn't give a shit about troll Jade obviously. I didn't develop him all that well and have no real emotional attachment to him anymore, so I don't really feel anything about Tiny Diamond becoming his Canon counterpart. Tbh I think it gave me an interesting glance in the mirror. With Jade, I had strayed very very far from the trolls' goofy ridiculous vibe. The introduction of Tiny Diamond was a humbling experience agsbdjnk.
I quite like Branch's brothers! It's the kind of info that makes me wish they revealed Branch had brothers seven years ago when I was going absolutely insane about trolls. I love sibling relationships. I would have had so much fun with it. Like throwing new toys into a baby's playpen.
But unfortunately the info has dropped in 2023 and I am 25. Sad face.
But still, Branch's brothers are neat. I like that their designs are all distinct but they still have the family resemblance you'd expect of brothers. I like that John and Bruce are fat. I like that Clay is all gangly and peaky looking. I like that they're all well meaning but kinda unintentionally dickish for refusing to acknowledge Branch as anything but a baby. I like that Floyd was a very sweet nurturing big brother and Branch still has a soft spot for him twenty years later. I like that Floyd is a twink. Yippee.
I think Bruce is my favourite, mostly cuz I had the most fun during his segment of the film. I love the puppet land. I love his big puppet wife and puppet children.
To be honest, as soon as I finished watching the movie, I began losing memories of it at a rapid rate. This is just what I remember. Okay byeeee <33

hii can i ask to hear the explanation of why you think sid/link is distasteful? i dislike the ship myself but i’ve never really met anyone else who isn’t super obsessed with it but likes sidon so this blog feels super relieving!!!
So I’m gonna have to word certain things weirdly to avoid the face eating leopards that might come after me when express my opinion on a fictional ship so bear with me here.
My distaste comes down to these three reasons:
1. Age
2. Context
3. Content
First one being age. Zoras age pretty weird. A lot of people somehow misunderstand how the aging works even though it’s simple despite being weird. They simply spend more time in each life stage, but some people for some reason think a 50~ year old Mipha is a pedophile for liking Link even though she’s also a teenager. I digress, as that’s a separate issue. There is dialogue in botw from the character Dunma that makes it clear that Zoras will be physically adults before the age of 100 (but 100 is a wisdom milestone!) The way you can equate this to human ages is the late teens and early 20s, where you’re grown for the most part, but your brain still has some developing to do. That is the age Dunma is at, and a reminder that she is under 100. I don’t have screenshots on what Dunma says on hand, but this post might, and it explains the aging overall as well.
Sidon is over 100, so my guys prefrontal cortex is already developed. The human prefrontal cortex is not fully developed until 25! Which means Sidon is probably the Zoran equivalent of his mid or even late 20. I’m hoping the issue with that is starting to become clear.
Link came out of the shrine of resurrection under the legal drinking age. Remember, in botw Link is not allowed to have a noble pursuit like he is in totk. So, he was probably 18 or 17, possibly 19 when he died to the calamity. He could not have been younger than 17, as he joined Zelda on Mount Lanayru.
So, even if Link was 18 when he met Sidon (met him again…we’ll get there…) I am telling you that dating what is the equivalent of a 25~ year old as an 18 year old is not only creepy, but incredibly dangerous and unbalanced in the real world. And if Link was 17 in botw then it’s pretty obvious why the ship sucks in respect to age.
And people more commonly point out that Link knew Sidon when he was a toddler. I agree this also makes it weird. They didn’t really remember each other, which people argue, however Sidon does remember the swordsman, he just didn’t remember the swordsman was Link.
To finish off the age issue, I know some will say that the totk time-skip makes it okay…except it really doesn’t because that’s like waiting until someone is legal until you hit on them…which is weird and looked down upon irl so I’m not sure why you guys think the King of the Zora would pull that shit.
Next is context. This refers to the story in botw, specifically the backstory. Link remembers nothing, but discovers that he was super close to being engaged to Mipha, who was his childhood friend. I’m not sure why more people don’t point this out, but I really really really don’t think Sidon is going to get in a romantic relationship with his dead sisters almost fiancé. This reason is particularly why I giggle when people say Sidon was queerbait…because the writing does not allow for si/dlink to be appropriate at all. Sidon values Mipha a lot, and certainly would not go after Link even if he did have feelings, because doing so would be disrespectful to her and also a bit gross. Like if I died and my sisters went after my partner I’d think it’s gross, and my family would probably think it’s gross, a lot of people would think that’s gross.
To continue with context, and this one is more of an opinion, I really really don’t think that Sidon and especially Link, have feelings for each other. People made the new statue in the domain sexual (You know…the statue that was probably commissioned by Dorephan aka Link and Sidon’s Dad basically…please use your brain and recognize why saying they’re “riding” each other is weird…) as well as Sidon’s sage vow to Link (the one that all the other sages make too, including Tulin who is literally a child are you saying Link got proposed to by a child…huh??) Honestly watching people pick up scraps and say it’s romantic is a little funny to me, as I feel like this is really just platonic or brotherly, especially since DLC dialogue in botw has Sidon almost call Link his brother. Also I think they’re easier to write good stories about when they’re not romantic.
That transitions into my final reason, which is content. Si/dlink content is objectively bad all around and I mean that in the nicest way possible. Even the most well written of fics have an underlying sense of, “What the fuck is Link doing at Zora’s domain for so long?” And make Sidon and Link’s development overly dependent on each other. Just a reminder, romance is kinda fucking boring if there are no steaks outside of the relationship, or the stakes only matter because of the relationship.
If it’s not a mediocrely written fic, it’s probably just straight up porn. Which I can’t speak too much on this, but I think it’d odd to sexualize mlm to the degree that people did in 2017 and are starting to do again now. Also, people tend to either infantilize either Sidon or Link, and one of the character has to be the other’s therapist. This should be more recognized as an issue because of the fact that Link and Sidon are completely and utterly neurodivergent coded.
The content also completely decimates Sidon’s character. He basically becomes this hollow shell who only talks about Link and only thinks about Link and holy fuck doesn’t this literal King have things to think about that are not Link?? It’s very painful, as a si/dlink hating Sidon fan, to never ever come across character analysis because people cannot detach Sidon’s character from Link for even two seconds. Like I get that it’s super easy to read Sidon’s friendliness to Link as something homoerotic, but have you also considered that Link is literally his best friend and basically his brother. Bonus points if you recognize Link and Sidon are both neurodivergent coded and probably have that type of alliance and understanding going on.
Like I genuinely think Sidon is easier to write as Link’s friend or like as a platonic/brotherly thing. Especially since Link has his whole thing going on with Zelda and Sidon has his whole thing going on with Yona. And for gods sake yes I know polyamory exists, but I know y’all don’t actually ship all those characters, Yona would get the short end of the stick in character because you just want your yaoi to not look misogynistic. And Zelda usually isn’t even taken into consideration even though all of Link’s time before the upheval was spent with her so it’s still a little bit misogynistic anyways. (Note that when I say it’s misogynistic, I do recognize that it’s typically not malicious or even intentional, you can still be misogynistic on accident.) That’s not even mentioning the fact that Yona barely knows Link, and I genuinely don’t think she’d be comfortable with a sudden poly relationship. Poly doesn’t mean zero boundaries…people yelling “Sidon has two hands!” Don’t really understand polyamory and how it works. People generally don’t get in a serious poly relationship with complete strangers.
I could say more, but if I do then it’ll get to the point where the face eating leopards will come after me, so I hope this is enough. I really just think the ship exists because people are attracted to Sidon (valid) and use Link as a sort of self insert (botw/totk Link is not completely a self insert, as he has his own story and character beyond the player.) Anyways that is pretty much my opinion, thank you for asking nicely anon and everyone else pretty please do not send nukes to my house.

I get that noble vampire families are Like That and they're what your story focuses on but. How about commoners families? Are they more Normal TM?
Thinking how humans used to keep chickens and pigs and other animals for food until fairly recently (we still do, but most of our meat comes from big farms and not like, a family keeping chickens and eating only what they raise), but still they befriended them/grew attached. And thinking about so many humans eating meat without thinking/purposefully ignoring the fact that they are eating a creature that was killed for them, technically.
Since commoner vampires generally eat bagged blood, are they the same level of being "unaware" of the fact that human blood comes from humans? How would a working class vamp react if they randomly inherited a human from their distant eccentric uncle who died with no close relatives/heirs?
(Apologies if you've been asked this before and for any mistakes in your lore - too many vampire media makes it hard to keep track)
Also sorry if this doesn't make much sense - I have acute brain wormitis tonight
great questions!!! :D sorry you've activated Fantasy Politics Mode
it varies! just like you'd find more conservative and more progressive people anywhere. nobility culture just tends heavily toward conservativism, and while vampire culture at large tends to be more conservative than whatever humans have going on, it's much more balanced outside the nobility, even among non-noble upper-class vampires (though in any society obviously you'll find more progressives in the working class).
more... 'traditional values' type vampires might have a mindset like "vampires are inherently superior to humans and it's fine for us to keep them as livestock", while liberal vampires might have a mindset like what you were talking about with how humans ignore the cruelty of factory farms because chicken yummy (this is the reason jim goes vegan post-escape. he can't help but think about it, now.) these two would probably be the most dominant mindsets.
much less common, but more progressive vampires (like bellamy) might have the mindset of "this whole thing is fucked up" and try to only drink ethically-sourced blood, if it's available to them. which it might not always be, depending on the vampire's location and how much money they have to spare. vampires are definitely all aware of where their blood comes from, but those that don't keep their own humans don't really have to think about it unless they choose to.
the scenario of a working-class vampire randomly inheriting a human from a rich distant relative is fascinating! obviously it'd depend on their personal political beliefs, but the fact is that there's a reason vampires without a lot of money don't tend to keep captive humans- they're expensive! humans eat a LOT and if you don't feed them properly, you're not gonna get all your nutrients either. like, think about how much a human spends on food for themselves vs food for their dog or cat. humans eat a ton! they take a lot of upkeep to take care of! it's cheaper to buy blood than keep your own human, because the blood factories can feed humans in bulk. so if the eccentric uncle didn't also leave behind a sum of money, probably gonna have to either sell the human or let them go, depending on the vampire's personal moral standing.
but if the eccentric uncle did leave some money too, this vampire could keep the human. could go a number of ways. keeping and using the human as food, trying that for a bit and then feeling guilty and letting them go, just letting them go to start with... possibilities are endless. but now i am very intrigued by the idea of a vampire caretaker inheriting a human, taking care of them until the long-term effects of persuasion wear off, and letting them go free.

For the tav backstories ask, how about 3, 7, 17, 23 for all of your tavs hehe (also jsyk I’m gonna properly answer your ask for these after work since I answered the wrong ask game lmaoooo)
[no pressure!! but yay!]
3. Who was your Tav raised by?
Wow you're really making me think!
Sekryd: I think by local guild members, my brain wants to say this. I'm doing a quick and dirty research run and it seems Gold Dwarves don't like anyone, in short. Except each other and mostly humans. LMAO.
I think her parents were traveling merchants. She didn't always travel with them but sometimes she did. When she was left behind in BG I think the guild as a whole helped raise her. Various aunts and uncles and piblings by heart if not name. Mostly though, it was an much older aunt that she saw as a grandmother.
Adair: His nanny on paper, but xyr's servents in reality. Mom was occasionally around and active. But it was mainly her nanny a nd the butler.
Orfeo: Himself. The streets? the occasional sympathetic and/or taking-advantage-of-a-hungry-urchin shopkeep. the occasional sympathetic and/or taking-advantage-of-a-hungry-urchin crimimal. But usually other street kids. But mostly himself.
Kaeliana: I'm still trying to feel around on the durge bg and what I want to work for her. Fel, of course, was one of the people. But I think she had foster or adopted parents for a time -- they were good people. I feel before that maybe a group home?
Integrity: His older sister and an elderly aunt for a time. [This may change but it works; definitely leans towards his protectiveness for tiefling women. Especially the ballsy ones.]
Andy: Too many people. If you could call some of it "raising". People who saw him as either an obligation or a tool. But the people who really raised him were his parents, for a time, and then his older cousin.
Kendis: Her parents and her brother.
7. Did your Tav travel a lot pre-tadpole?
Sekryd: Moderately. Mostly around BG. Mostly for business outside of it. She has passing familiarity with parts of the areas around her city. Waterdeep, Candlekeep. Been to the Sword Coast once.
Adair: To a couple of places extensively but not in the way xe is now. Mostly was a "homebody", in the sense that they had to be at home due to responsibilities [Noble, you see]. But, of course, would visit other nobles and etc.
Orfeo: [This may change] But I feel he was JUST starting out. He probably made out around the city and surrounding areas and was just venturing outward before he was snatched.
Kaeliana: She doesn't remember ... jk. Yes. Seems that Durge got busy and bloody.
Integrity: For a time. Before the hermit life. Call it the indiscretion of youth.
Andy & Kendis: Yes. Andy mostly lmao. Vengeance path!
17. What’s your Tav’s worst childhood memory?
Sekryd: Some other child, maybe another kid of a guild member, borrowing a book of hers and basically returning it like shit.
Adair: Her grandfather didn't really acknowledge her existence [but he was the only child of his beloved - though rebellious - eldest daughter]. But one time he invited her to an event, she was very excited. However, the night was -- not the best ... xe was used to people's muttered comments but usually they never stared xyr down. I guess it's different among your grandfather's people vs other nobles. The cherry on the cake was her drunk grandfather who left for home without her.
Orfeo: Just one?
Kaeliana: Blood. Blood. Bloodbloodbloodblood. She wish she could say it was that but that group home was the pits. Strangely she remembers THAT.
Integrity: Other than the racism, it was good. Most of his horrid memories started at their later teenhood [still a child, arguably. and yes they would argue.]
Andy: Man. ROFLMAO. Where do we begin~~ But no. It will always be his parents. His parents went on a trip and the boat disappeared.
Kendis: When their parents left her behind in the grove. They understand the reasoning, but it doesn't make what happened around it any better. For a time she thought they had died.
23. Share any hcs/anything you want to say about your Tav’s backstory
Sekryd: I believe has a skilled hand with a hammer. She will read. Anything. May be my most curious. That's saying something given Andy, Kendis, and Integrity are in the lot.
Adair: Is surprisingly a guile hero. Surprising because xe tends to lean straightfoward and blunt regularly. But I suppose facing fiends and ogres require the same silver tongue as dealing with nobles. I also picture him dedicated to his people [who have warm up to her and some also are protective].
Orfeo: He tried his hand at criminality [if yall were gonna arrest him for being poor, why not actually do something worth it yeah?]. But not really for him; far too cut throat [towards him .... and you know, maybe other people. Maybe he cares about that too.] Still. He has his moments and remembers some things.
Kaeliana: I haven't reached it all in Act 3. But I think before Orin got her, Kae was starting to wonder. Starting to have a change of heart. Before Wyll. I think it was from being a paladin.
Integrity: I put outlander in his bg but he's a Hermit. He left his grove/people/wte. Fuck them druids.
Andy:
Tremble for yourself, my man You know that you have seen this all before Tremble, little lion man You'll never settle any of your scores
Your grace is wasted in your face Your boldness stands alone among the wreck Now learn from your mother or else Spend your days biting your own neck
Kendis: Very much still dead not-gf central.

Hi hello my friends and super nerds
I would like to write or do something with a Spy x Family + His Dark Materials crossover... aka ‘what if the Forgers had daemons’ scenario. I’m not great at form finding, especially on fictional characters, so I really hope some daemians can help me out .w.
I’m gonna preface this with two things: - I personally believe daemons would react to trauma and stress in bizarre ways. Most of the cast of SxF is severely traumatized so uh there’s some fun I want to do, like Twilight having never settled, Anya’s never taking a ‘real’ animal form etc - I’d ideally like a mix of symbolic and realistic form stuff. I haven’t been in the HDM/daemonism community too much for a good decade now, but I’ve seen some people say they’re different things so uh... I’d like to just blend it
Twilight (Loid + [REDACTED]): Due to the massive trauma early in life, his daemon has never settled. It basically gives him the master of disguise superpower easily, as it’s extremely rare (and bad!) when that happens. Even so, not many people know of it, just some WISE higher-ups like Sylvia, maybe Franky As Twilight, he’s very independent, detached, meticulous, solitary, detail-oriented, with a brain moving a mile a minute. His ‘default’ form would reflect this. As Loid, however, he’d need something more gentle and approachable, that cares deeply for family, but still very intelligent The fun part would be that he doesn’t realize he’s settling slowly by acting as Loid. I’m not sure if he’d really fit exactly what Loid’s persona daemon is, but we know ‘on the inside’ he’s very loyal, manipulative, crazy smart, anxious
Yor: We don’t know exactly what happened to Yor’s parents, but I think it was likely around settling years (onset of puberty). Having to take over an adult role for Yuri, I’d think she settled early and suddenly. She’s also fiercely loyal (even more than Twilight), cares deeply for family, worried about not being normal enough or not being good enough constantly, act first think later, scary when threatened When we first meet her, Yor’s daemon would be sickly, skinny, mottled. But through the story, they’d get healthier
Anya: Since Anya’s a child, she doesn’t have a defined form yet. I do want to note that, since she’s a human experiment, something is still very wrong with her daemon, though. I’m mostly going with that her forms are always mythical animals and chimeras, never a ‘real’ animal, but open to feedback if anyone thinks something different?
Yuri: His is ‘normal’... relatively. He probably also settled early but not weirdly or suddenly. He’s obsessive, overly protective, uses intelligence as power, aggressive, absolutely dedicated, only vulnerable to their loved ones
Franky: Probably the most normal daemon situation in the whole cast tbh. He’s a jokester but very smart and weirdly wise. He’s like the most typical ENTP ever, if you know your MBTI. Social and savvy, but not very charming
Sylvia (Handler): Her daemon would be quiet and stoic with an aggressive side. She’s a mentor and a leader, who deals with the unfortunate ugly situations, so she’s very dedicated and hard working. There’s a softer side to her, but rarely seen. Not as tunnel-vision as Yuri at all, but probably a form in the same vein
Nightfall (Fiona): Super quiet, super dedicated, super antisocial and unemotional. Except that she’s obsessed with Twilight, of course, just that she never shows it ever. I have an idea that her daemon likes to make ‘weirdly aggressive’ moves at Twilight’s, like laying on them, which Twilight is always slightly alarmed by but it’s just Fiona’s very miscommunicated adoration lmao
Donovan: He’s severed. Nobody knows this. They just think his daemon hides in his suit all the time
Damian: Wants to settle asap and tries to take ‘noble’ forms like lions and wolves and eagles, due to pressure
Becky: Is weird and tries to put accessories on her daemon. The forms are always extra pretty animals
Okay so now that I kinda wrote down the jist of the cast... Anyone wanna help me with form finding for them? .w.;;;;;;;;;;

What do u think about the kinks of the noble devils? Some of them are normal but some of them are.. out there to say the least lmao (Leraye I'm looking at u..)
Oh gods. Another long one. Buckle up everyone! *comes with definitions so everyone is on the same page here
Satan
Spanking is... spanking.
It's baby's first bdsm kink. A bit of light spanking feels like it's becoming more mainstream over time (not bdsm exclusive).
Honestly? I expect Satan to have bolder kinks. He's a sadist, so there is waaaay more he could do.
Mammon
Pygophilia is a sexual attraction to butts.
I didn't even know this was a kink, per se. Attraction to butts is so commonplace that I didn't think it was a paraphilia.
He's living his best life though. Go him!
Beelzebub
Olfactophilia is a paraphilia characterized by sexual arousal caused by smells and odors emanating from the body.
Can relate. I have a mild one. Your partner's natural smell can be very arousing.
Leviathan
Breath control is the intentional restriction of oxygen to the brain for the purposes of sexual arousal.
SWEET SUBBY BOY HAS A HARD KINK. ONE OF THE HARDEST KINKS.
Seriously, I love him and hoe happy he looks when he's getting choked. And! And! He wants it done properly! Harder! Fuck me!
Seriously, this is a very risky kink and I adore him for living for it.
Sitri
Cardiophilia is an erotic fixation on the human heart/cardiovascular system.
He wants to hear the moment his victim's heart stops beating and that's sexy in an absolutely terrifying way.
Low-key imagine he lies his head against his partner's chest as he fingers/jerks them off just to enjoy their errotic erratic heartbeat.
Leraye
Keraunophilia is an abnormal attraction of lightning or thunder, which can lead to arousal from thunder and lightning
The poor man is getting all the side glances on this blog. Lol
It was stated he thinks his gun sounds like thunder, so I understand his position (since he's a devil of wrath)
Still an... interesting kink. Not sure how he gets that in the bedroom? Does he use a sound machine or something?
Astaroth
Narratophilia is a sexual fetish in which words and stories are sexually arousing, usually by the telling of dirty and obscene words or stories to a partner.
Me too, fam. I have a violent voice kink so I understand him. Hearing that sexy voice tell you dirty stories? Even better!
Paimon
Haematophilia is a sexual fetish for blood
I am 0% surprised. It's probably the most common kink in Gehenna.
Does that make Paimon a basic bitch? 🤔
I mean, bloody nose panels in manga are hot, so I kind of get it in a way.
Zagan
Kinesophilia is a paraphilia where the sexual arousal hinges around human movement and exercise.
Zagan watches TikTok exercise thirst traps, confirmed. That, or parkour is his version of porn. Or is he the kind of man who works out then needs to fuck immediately afterward?
As a certified couch potato, I apologize to Zagan.
Dantalian
Autassassinophilia is a paraphilia where a person becomes sexually aroused by fantasizing their own death by the hands of another.
I have to wonder how violent these fantasies get, because... does he just want to die or does he want to die violently? Does he have a favorite fantasy? DOES HE ACTUALLY WANT TO DIE TO THE ANGELS????
He seems to be more into the fantasy than the real thing given how he keeps living.
Phenix
Morphophilia is characterized by a sexual interest in another who has greatly varying body proportions to oneself.
Size difference kink or into chub as a kink? Both? Both.
Morax
Stigmatophilia is a type of sexual attraction to piercings and tattoos.
I mean, piercings and tattoos can be hot. Not my kink, personally, but I get it.
Personally I think he should be into bandaids and antiseptic more...
Marbas
Merinthophilia is a sexual fetish in which one is sexually aroused by being tied up with rope or similar material.
Aroused 24/7 given he's always tied up.
I wouldn't mind putting some pretty ropes on a guy that buff. Especially given my headcanon that he's a secret gentle giant to MC.
Barbatos
Heliophilia is an attraction to the sun.
Is there a sun in hell? What sun is he looking at? Do you think he's more into the light or the heat?
Honestly, I don't get this one. You do you, boo, but I do not understand.
Foras
Scopophilia is an aesthetic pleasure derived from looking.
Fancy name for a voyeur. My fictional feelings and my irl feelings on this are different.
Irl, I'm cool if it's consensual. It can be hot to play like you're hiding as you watch someone or to "catch" someone watching you. If it's no consensual, gross.
Fantasy? FUCKING HOT! Go off! Enjoy your show!
It also has great angst potential.
High-key think Foras pines after Leviathan
Bimet
Timophilia is a primary arousal from gold or wealth.
0% surprised. Man would probably fuck a pile of money if he could.
Findom? Findom!
Bael
Olfactophilia is a paraphilia characterized by sexual arousal caused by smells and odors emanating from the body.
See Beelzebub.
Is this kink actually his or is it another aspect of himself that he controls in order to become more like Beelzebub?
Stolas
Pecattiphilia is a fetish where individuals experience sexual arousal from breaking religious rules or committing sins.
Does this mean he's turned on by breaking traditional rules or devil rules? If it's devil rules, does that mean angels turn him on?
What is sin to a devil???
Amon
Harmatophilia is the fetish or preference for people who break rules or commit mistakes.
Man sees whiteout on a page and gets a boner. Lol
Seriously though, what rules are people breaking? And what is it with Avisos and getting turned on by rule breaking?
Minhyeok
Melcryptovestimentaphilia is the desire or fondness for women`s black undergarments or the desire to steal panties.
Panty pervert.
You basic ass bitch. You absolute freak. You wonderful, beautiful pervert.
It's such a common kink, but I love him for it. It fits the childhood friend trope.
Gabriel
Hierophilia is a fetish for religious or sacred objects, places, and people.
We already knew he wanted to fuck God. He's just wearing his heart on his sleeve.
I have... worse thoughts of what he's doing, but that's sacrilegious.
I think anyone with religious ✨️trauma✨️ can attest to this kink. Trauma tends to get errotic at some point for a few of us...
Eligos
Diaphanophilia is a sexual fondness for viewing nudity through diaphanous fabrics such as veils, underwear, baby dolls, etc.
Hard same. I love wearing that stuff and seeing others wear it. It's sexy as fuck.
It's such a basic kink but so powerful. I can think of sooooo many ways to play with it~

So I was thinking and my brain came up with something. In LSTS are there edits and fan fiction of members of the royal family? Like do Luke and Aemond have separate fan bases and then when they get married the fan bases have their fair share of union and war (we can never escape toxic fans)?
anon i am kissing you on the forehead for this ask. 💕 i did some research for this and on ao3 there's like just over 600 rpf fics for the british royal family so on the fanfic route i'll say...kind of? like they're out there but that's not a big cause for concern, most are about older members of the family or are just crossovers with like spy series or works of fiction where meetings would make sense
as for EDITS and all other things social media i have a whole slew of thoughts on this. it's an entire thesis paper's worth but i'll try to condense some below 🥲
getting this out of the way, i don't think lsts aemond OR luke are very active on social media. (perhaps i'm projecting)
i actually think aemond has zero non-private accounts, though people will sometimes see him comment on his family's posts and others here and there. it's usually just a couple nice words or emojis on one of helaena's posts of her kids or something like a video going around of a little kid claiming their first dragon (this is actually good for public opinion of him lol)
luke i could see him having a few public-facing accounts, though he mostly uses his private ones that only, like, the green and black siblings and maybe three of his friends have access to. on his public accounts he does the occasional cute family/friend photo dump (these are rare and people are always greedy for them), posts for family philanthropy stuff, videos of arrax, and he'll come out of left field sometimes with a video or long-ass caption explaining a very niche scientific concept in draconology or a high valyrian history lesson (cue the "wait i forgot he's smart" comments - from his family, not the people of westeros)
that being said the royal family of westeros - all noble houses at that - have several official accounts where they're all regularly posted and some office worker is writing up captions about the official going-ons in their lives, so they're still SEEN
they're also both dragged for interviews at least a few times a year by various outlets (a lot of material for edits and other fan content are scraped from these). luke i can picture being made to do something like one of vogue's "get ready with me" videos (which are usually a hit; despite how much he hates doing them luke is very charming and has a talent for picking stories to tell about the family that won't cause outcry but are also more human and engaging than most that westeros gets to hear).
i also think it'd be funny if luke and aemond, or any of the kids, did something kind of like "drunk histories" (except NOT that bc being drunk on television is a big no-no for royals, more like abridged or uncensored histories?) where they're actually allowed to make jokes, and most of the nation finds out aemond actually has a personality and can laugh from watching him discuss aegon the conqueror with luke 🥲 (maybe this also gets them a small pool of "truthers")
lucky for them their social media history sort of works in their favor when it's time for a shot-gun wedding. a lot of people assume they've been dating for years and just kept it quiet 😭
that being said, aemond is one of the most handsome, eligible bachelors in westeros and teenagers will be teenagers, so there is some mourning that takes place when the wedding is announced. luke is also considered gorgeous and some alpha-incels who're fixated on him probably have a couple things to say, too. for normal people, though, it's a lot of joke-y posts like "that should be ME!!!" while still ultimately wishing them well
(also there's like five of the aforementioned lucemond truthers frothing at the mouth posting "I TOLD YOU!!!1111!!!!11!!!")
i'm sorry this is messy truthfully i could talk so much more about this!! 😭 i'll end on the note that this definitely changes when they start their family :)

Welp.. it's been a whole year since I've written these personal tidbits on the Vampire Hunter D series, and I've finally gotten around to rereading/ finishing the fourth book: Tale of the Dead Town. Here it goes..
So the beginning of the story plays out very movie-like. Lots of action and confusion... mysterious characters that you know are important, but you just can't put your finger on what roles they play in the plot.
What stood out the most to me in this book (compared to only the 3 other books I've read) is how much detail the technology is described and explained. I mean, a whole ass hovering town robotically moving through the frontier was wicked cool to imagine. Like a souped-up version of Howl's moving castle lol. The way the town ran, their maintenance, control, defenses, and construction played such a big part in this plot and I actually loved every bit of it.
Of course there's always some vampire afoot terrorizing townsfolk in the D series.. but the actual construction of the town itself playing a role in the plot as well as the expanded world building made the book so much more enticing to read. You got to see the level of medicine humanity has come by to unimaginably heal things like radiation poisoning and inbreeding. You also got to see the level of hatred and fear of dhampirs coming from the sheltered townsfolk. With that being said, it blends the same old shit/social constructs a small town comes with and 10000 years of technological evolution.
It was absolutely terrifying comparing the rising number of vampires terrorizing this secluded moving town from the beginning of the book to the end. But damn ... for the whole town to turn into mindless vampires in the end was alarming! The Mayor fucked up big time with his little experiments. I should've probably known given the title is called "tale of the dead town" lol
The characters were absolutely wonky, and maybe I might just be dumb. I knew Pluto VIII was iffy especially with how much the author described his oscillating character and almost night and day mood swings. But the whole time I was so suspicious of Dr. Tsurugi! My brain just couldn't trust him, and maybe it was the fact he was so competitive with D and how skilled/strong he was with karate? Idk. But never did I imagine Pluto VIII having to do with Lori's family's murder or even more so that he would team up with the madman mayor to find the plans on how to make humans into nobles without losing their humanity. All just for some coin. To top it off, even after all his secret misdeeds he took such care of Lori throughout the whole book; even when he took over her body! I really think the author just wanted us to think of him as strange guy and neither love or hate him.
It gave me such a relief to figure out what Tsurugi's deal was with D; and even more so finding out that it had to do with Doris and her brother. The two were well and thriving, and that Doris wouldn't pay the doctor's advances mind because her heart still longed for D. I fricking love Doris and her bro. It was also nice that the doctor kinda got paired with another strong girl like Lori, (the female lead of this book) who not only became deaf and mute through radiation in the beginning of the story, but found more of her purpose to help people while struggling with her new disabilities.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, although it took me forever to get back into. The end of the book is where the plot moves fast, and has you at the edge of your seat!
