I think the reason why Kai and Cole had such a radical emotional change after March of the Oni was because Lloyd died

We’ve had plenty of characters die in Ninjago, and it always had a horrific affect on the ninja emotionally. Despite all their adventures and godlike powers they’re still older teenagers and young adults- of course when their sibling or lover dies in the fight they’re gonna want to avoid the fight itself

I think it was different for Lloyd tho- Lloyd despite losing the golden power is still the most powerful ninja. He’s not meant to lose, out of all of the ninja he’s the one who’s least likely to die and I think they know that.

So when he died facing down the Oni, even briefly, that would make the ninja doubtful and even afraid of their own mortality-

Kai’s hotheadedness and desire for the fury of battle dies when he see’s his little brother unresponsive on the floor. If he can die, so can Kai

Coles stubborn facade and die hard attitude gets a reality check when the kid who defeated the incarnate of evil lies dead in front of him

It would just be a reality check for them. Both have had to look death in the eyes many times before, but experiencing death is something that they themselves wouldn’t often think about.

Lloyd - 8/10 HHGOOOHHJHJG my gosh i love him . He is so so silly and so so yaes. Yass. Genuinely like i would protect him with my life HES NOT MY FAVOURITE but i still love him. how can you NOT love him

Kai - 9/10 and I'm gonna be completely honest when I say that the only reason he's my third favourite ninja over cole is because he's red (my favourite colour) and he has fire powers (my favourite element) but otherwise i like the two equally. Anyway HE's SO COOL like genuinely . Funny as hell too. Not a big fan of his haircut HOWEVER i am a zane fan so i choose not to make a big deal out of that

Jay - 7/10 yeeeshhhhhh ERM i am going to preface this by saying I AM NOT A JAY HATER and i am not even a jay disliker. He is funny and he is silly and there have been many occasions upon which I have looked at him and thought 'hes just likw me fr'. HOWEVer there were certain occasions. Certain seasons even. Maybe a specific season that came after possession and before hands of time. In which he ticked me off quite a large amount that may have negatively affected my opinion. BUT I STILL LOVE HIM hes just jever been a favourite and #that season didnt do much to help

Cole - 8.5/10 like I said he's basically joint with kai apart from the fact he isn't red. But i fenuinely love so much about cole i love his design (he was basically the only ninja to have a good haircut before the redesigns icl) and i love his personality and just everything about him is Awesome. And one thing i found really interesting is when he was a ghost. And i wish that got more focus cause i would have really liked it

Zane - 13/10 HOOOOO BOY i will be brief. I could genuinely go on for days on end about how much i love zane ninjago but I Will Be Brief. Everything about his character just makes me so SO happy. His personality and his design (his haircut is cute i swear) and his story and EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM and i said that for cole as well but this is TEN TIMES MORE INTENSE every time i think about him it feels like an actual electric SHOCK through my entire body I'm so so serious. I also find him to be like INCREDIBLY relatable. There have been occasions where i literally Cried because he was Just Like Me and i couldnt TAKE it anymore. And it's not even funny and it will never even be funny and the season 3 finale left me in shambles for weeks. And to be honest i think the show needs to be nicer to him because why is he always going through something. This little guy cannot have one normal day i swear. Let zane be happy challenge imPOSSIBLE. And i know a lot of people don't like how robotic he is after season 3 and I totally get that but for me personally that doesn't really change how much i still love him as a character even if there are some changes i want to be made with his writing. Just realised i said i would be brief and then wrote a whole paragraph Um im gonna move on,

Nya 10/10 I LOVE HER!!!! Genuinely cannot think of one negative thing to say about her apart from it took the show a good few seasons to get the hang of actually writing her (as much as i adore rebooted it pisses me off how dirty they did her in that season). But she is just SO cool and i love her and i loved her in skybound and she was probably one of the only things i loved about skyboukd other than echo zane. Good lord i love nya she makes me malfunction in the brain. Whenever i drink water i think of her

garmadon 5/10. And i dont mean that in a negative way i mean genuinely true neutral. I actually loved him in the movie he made me cry a lot but when we're talking just the actual show? Euuiwuuajajgghj. In the first couple aeasons i was really mixed on him like i think he was a really interesting character and he was silly but i had proper BEEF with him too like he made me MAD. And then seasons 3 and 4 came around and . And. Sensei Garmadon. fun fact about sensei garmadon i didnt Particularly Like him but thats ok!!!!! That is ok!!!!! I did like garmadons backstory with clouse that was very interesting i really.Really liked it. ⚠️((If you haven’t seen Ninjago Prime Empire, SPOILERS!!!!))⚠️

Just finished Prime Empire. I’m gonna stand by this statement ‘till the day I die.

Jay gets all the good seasons.

He’s only had two, but both have been awesome. A lot of the arcs since the model change haven’t been my cup of tea. I hated Sons of Garmadon, Hunted was okay, but I hate Harumi. And March of the Oni was also around that same rank for me.

Aspheera was pretty interesting, and I did enjoy the Never Realm. But Prime Empire is the most I have enjoyed Ninjago in a while!

It can’t surpass the amazing streak we had with Possession, SkyBound and Hands of Time (plus Day of the Departed). But it is pretty high up there for me!

Can’t wait to see what Master of the Mountain has in store! Hopefully this good season streak will keep building, cause I’ve heard Crystalized has been…disappointing, unfortunately.

But for now I am freaking about Prime Empire! I loved Okino, I loved Superstar Rockin’ Jay, I loved the whole Jay reasoning with Unagami! I just cared about so many things this season and got invested in the characters. The world of the game and the NPCs there just got me so immersed! Not to mention the SkyBound parallels.

If you follow me, you probably know by now that SkyBound is my favourite season. So I was possibly reaching for some of them, but still!! The season literally starts with Clutch finding the Teapot of Tyrahn!!! Or what looks to be like it, and then a flash of gold light offscreen once Clutch walks away, rubbing the teapot.

They’re teasing me and I know it!

We get all of the ninja slowly disappearing until only Nya and Jay are left. Nya disappears and Jay is left alone to fix the mistake. I know in SkyBound the other ninja were there when Nya died. But Jay was still the only one who could fix it, cause he had the wish. So I think the parallel still stands.

And they didn’t disappear in the same order, (and Zane and Pixal weren’t even in the game) but I still think it counts.

I got to see Jay being more serious and determined to take down the big bad and save his friends. Love when Jay takes a bit of responsibility and steps up! Not to mention him using the fact that he was left behind by his birth parents to try and reason with Unagami! Even though Jay was raised by wonderful parent,(Ed and Edna love him so much) it still has to be a bit confusing and hurtful to know you weren’t wanted or given up. He had to of sat there wondering why? What was the reason? And Jay being highly optimistic, even if he complains all the time, chooses to believe it was a good reason. And he might never get to know that reason, but I think it’s pretty nice closure getting to help Unagami and Dyers reconcile, and help Unagami to get that reason that Jay will probably never get.

Jay still very much loves Ed and Edna, and I feel he will always consider them his parents, but I also feel like it’d always bother him a bit to not know why he was abandoned. So that’s why I really liked this part, kind of feels like a nice way for him to get a bit of closure on that matter.

I also just had lots of fun watching this season. I love video games, so seeing this awesome world of players, and all the cool world building for the game was amazing. I love the different realms they could go to, the little events they could use to get money and buy items and skins. It was just fun. Not to mention the inclusion of older game styles. I thought that was pretty funny for them to go through, since I personally am not that great at side scrollers and classic platformers.

I loved Jay’s skin, I wish he kept it for the entirety of the season lol. Kai looked awesome too. Cole and Nya just both kept the techno ninja gear, which looked fine, I just would’ve liked to see more personalized skins for them. Lloyd had one too, but it was just for a disguise, plus…it was super ugly. Lloyd, honey, that fit was not it.

Oh also…Jay cult.

That’s all I’ll say about that. Lol

I would say more, but I am slowly forgetting everything cause I’m tired. So I think I’m gonna end this rant. I enjoyed Prime Empire, and I will be drawing Superstar Rockin’ Jay!

:O yes!! I did good. Unfortunately the only time travelling people I know of are the time twins and...Dr. Who...my mom liked it and I watched it sometimes, but I only really remember the statues that moved when you blink. A space/time ninja would be so cool....

Time Travelling Teammate!

Kai:

Was suspicious of you at first, but you assured him you weren't related to the twins, and you were actually a long rival of theirs. This was confirmed when the twins tried to kill you the moment they saw you.

The colors you use are actually the inversion of theirs, so for example, when they stop time it's red, but for you, it's blue, and their green is your purple, etc. And he thinks it's really pretty.

After they were defeated, he asked you out, and you agreed. At first it was because no one had liked you that much before, but you grew to love him back, and he thinks you're super cool.

Cole:

In a last ditch effort, the twins messed around with the timeline, and thus, you were born. You came from an alternate line where people wielded two matching elements at a time; ice and water, earth and metal, etc.

You joined the ninjas' side though, and the twins called you a traitor to your element, which actually made things worse for them, when they thought it would go in their favor.

After winning the battle, you and Cole became friends, and fell in love. You didn't think it was possible since on your timeline you were seen as a 'single wielder', and therefore were undesirable. But he makes sure you feel loved plenty.

Zane:

You were actually there at his creation, and used your powers to keep yourself as young-looking as he did. That's how he knew you weren't related to the twins. Even if you were, he knew you were far too kind to turn on him because they called you family. He loved that about you.

"(Y/N), we're of the same element, would you really turn your back on us?" "I would, because if I knew anything about family, it's that it runs deeper than blood alone." You sacrificed your powers to trap them in a permanent loop, and in turn you became immortal.

You were devastated at first, knowing you could never die but still feel every pain the world would give you, but he assured you that you would always have him. He was immortal too, and would love you forever.

Jay:

You were a literal god once; that's how you got your powers. Unfortunately, you were stripped of all but one; the ability to manipulate time. You spent your first 10 years on Ninjago frustrated and angry, but when you met Jay, things started to change. You felt yourself relax more, and you saw Ninjago as not your prison, but a new place to see and enjoy.

Then you started to fall in love with him. You weren't familiar with the feelings, so the other ninja helped you with them. You were about to ask him out, but then the time twin dilemma happened. You were devastated, as it caused a rift between you and the rest of the team, as they believed you were related to the twins somehow.

It took a lot of convincing from Wu to let you back on the team once you defeated them, but Jay apologized and promised never to question you again. You realized you didn't want your powers back, you just wanted Jay.

Nya:

You were actually a twin of your own, before you absorbed yours in the womb. Time elementals were always twins, and both twins gave their powers to twins; thus nearly every twin in Ninjago had time powers, and didn't even know it. You did, though, and vowed to use your power for good.

You were invited to the tournament of elements, and joined because you thought you could find a team to join. Everyone rejected you, even the ninjas, but when Nya found you, she wanted you to join. Garmadon, who knew of the time twins, didn't trust you because of your powers, but with a little convincing, Nya got him and Wu to let you join.

You proved your worth to them when you single handedly defeated the time twins, and Nya even asked you out the next week. You were a little nervous at first, because you didn't know what her brother would think, but she threatened him not to bother you.

Lloyd:

He thought your powers were so cool, but then he learned they came from an accident, and felt bad for you. You have to assure him you don't mind it. You were a test for a time portal to the future, but it collapsed on itself with you inside, giving you time powers. He was glad you used them for good though, as it meant his dad approved of you dating. He knew it was wrong to try and get you to use your powers to bring Garmadon back after the Preeminent trapped and killed him, but instead of listening to your reason, he turned on you and broke up with you.

He regretted it when you were gone for a whole year, and no one knew where you went, so it enraged him to hear Acronix was the one to comfort you in the time vortex where you hid for so long. "Don't you know? We're dating now, actually." It was a lie meant to taunt, but Lloyd almost killed him over it. You had to intervene and stop him before he did something he would regret. "Tell me it's not true!"

Of course he still loved you, how could he not? Once the twins were permanently defeated, he apologized for everything, and begged for forgiveness. It took you both a while to get back to being partners again, but it happened.

Pixal:

Of course you knew of the twins, you were friends with them way back then because you bonded over your ability to transform time. But you weren't like them, so when it came down to it, you refused to betray the other elements, and instead helped them seal the twins away. Of course it left you devastated to know your best friends wanted to hurt other people, but you had to let it go.

You grew up isolated from other people, not wanting to get attached to anyone else out of fear that you would have to betray their trust too, and as the years went on, you also began to fear you would outlive everyone you ever met. Soon Krux and Acronix would be the only people left, and they would never forgive you for helping seal them away. You were going to be alone forever. Or, at least until you met Wu again. He offered you a spot on the team, and although it hurt you to say yes, in the end, you were glad you did. You met Zane and became friends with him, happy to know a nindroid would live forever. When you met Pixal, things were different. You liked her a lot more than you liked Zane, and realized you fell in love with her. You were relieved when she reciprocated your feelings.

When the twins came back, you were both shocked and scared to hear the news. Of course they came to hurt Wu and the others, but they wanted to do more than that to you after you betrayed them. Pixal saved you though, and the two of you helped defeat them. "The difference between you and I is that I want to use my power for good. That is why we were never meant to be friends." Obviously you didn't want to say that, you still cared about them, but it was true. You had moved on since then, and knew Pixal would keep you happy, just as you would keep her smiling every day.

Extra:

Misako: "There's another time elemental? There are already twins; that makes three." Wu: *shrugs* "I've learned not to question these types of things." Misako: "Yeah but...how many of them are there then? Does that mean there could be multiple fire elementals, or green ninjas?" Wu: "Actually...you might be right. Ninja! We're going on a field trip."

Who I think the ninjas would main in genshin impact

(Takes place before version 2.5)

Cole

Look me in the eyes and tell me he would not main itto. He mains him not only for his personality but because of yoshi as well. Yea he also finds Itto really strong but he just lives aiming yoshi at enemies before jumping into battle.

But before getting Itto, Cole was a diluc main.

Jay

Jay was a Jean main for a while until he got Kazuha. He was a Jean main cause he could make enemies fall from the sky. And when he tried Kazuha in his trial he was like, "I need this boy right now" He low-key regrets getting Kazuha cause he has to fight the maguu kenki but he still says it's worth it in the end.

Kai

He is a childe main. Everyone finds it ironic that the fire ninja mains a hydro character but that was his plan. He likes to enter a random player's world and troll them. And since none of the ninjas show their uid or username to the public, no one knows that they just got trolled by the fire ninja.

He also mains childe cause he hates using catalysts characters and xingqiu's cool down takes way too long. (Even though childe's takes even longer but he says it doesn't and it drives Zane insane)

Zane

He mained Thoma until the Albedo and Eula rerun which he then starting to main Albedo. Also while alot of people were praying Thoma to come home, Zane got him in his first ten pull.

One of the reasons he started to main Albedo was because Thoma was basically maxed out. Thoma was level 90, friendship level 10 and was triple crowned. And zane changed to Albedo cause he said "He looks like a fun character" Then he fell for the elsabedo trap and it made it so much better since he was the ice ninja.

Lloyd

Klee, he is a Klee main. He did try to get venti cause like easy transport but he failed. So when Klee's rerun came and after trying her in the trial, he knew he needed her cause she is a child of destruction and he needed that in his team. And since he was the only one who got Klee, they made this game where one person would be Jean and chase Lloyd from monstadt to liyue harbor. They had to "attack" Lloyd before he got to liyue and the other two would be spectators to make sure neither of them would teleport and that Jean actually "attacked" Klee.

Nya

Raiden Shogan. But before she got Raiden she mained Beidou. And she constantly jokes that she only mains electro mommys (which is like 85% true) Kai remembers the time when nya was trying so hard to get the pole arm 'The catch' that when the others weren't playing genshin, she would log in to their accounts and allow herself into their worlds just to get the fish that she needed.

(quick shoutout to @fires-of-ninjago for the title idea and inspiration for this- you remember that ask game where people suggested titles for fics and you had to come up with a story to go along with it? Well, he sent in this title, and I came up with this, and liked it so much that I screenshotted it and- here we are!)

Summary: It was just supposed to be a day off. A simple beach day. But when your family consists of six ninja and a samurai, including a nindroid convinced he’s a detective, his reluctant sidekick, an aquaphobe, a girl who can command the sea, an unassuming teen who seems to attract every animal he crosses paths with, and a bunch of argumentative idiots, nothing is ever that easy.

“We,” Kai proclaimed, surveying the room, “Need a day off.”

Lloyd shrieked at the fire ninja’s sudden outburst, falling out of his chair. Jay broke into snickers, and Lloyd shot him a glare.

“Kai,” Zane sighed, “get off the table.”

Kai stuck his tongue out at the nindroid, but hopped down, anyway. “Look at you guys!” Kai waved his hands at the group for emphasis. Papers fluttered to the ground where Lloyd had knocked them in his fall, Jay and Nya were sitting on the ground, surrounded by stacks of books tall enough to be mistaken for some kind of fort, Pixal was gathering some of the papers that had gone everywhere, while Cole and Zane had only just paused in their task of boxing up and carrying crates to the far side of the room. “Filing documents and organizing? Boooring.”

“Tasks which you’ve been a big help with, by the way,” Lloyd grumbled, as Cole offered him a hand and pulled him to his feet. He turned back to the desk, shuffling papers off of the keyboard of his laptop, the screen filled with lines of script and dozens of files that made Kai's brain hurt just to look at.

Nya pushed her reading glasses up her nose. “Jay and I technically aren’t working. We chose to do this of our own free will.”

Kai rolled his eyes at her. “What kind of psychopaths read for fun?”

Jay kicked his leg out, aiming for Kai’s ankle, but Cole quickly stepped between them, stopping the conflict before it could escalate into anything worse.

“We’re not reading them, we’re sorting them in order from most potentially useful to least so. They’re mechanics and engineering books. You never know when they might come in handy in a pinch.”

“Oh, because that’s so much more interesting. If you guys wanna spend all your free time geeking out, fine, what do I care. But what about the rest of you? C’mon, Lloydster. You don’t really wanna spend your entire day doing this,” he gestured at the laptop and paper-strewn desk- “do you?”

“It’s not about whether or not I want to. This stuff is important, Kai.”

“Lloyd’s right,” Zane agreed. “With all the crazy missions we’ve been on lately, we’ve neglected all our paperwork, and taking care of the Monastery.”

“It’s because we’ve been gone so long that we need a break!” Kai argued. “We just got done saving the entire city from an evil video game AI! If that’s not worth celebrating, I don’t know what is.”

“Technically,” Nya remarked, not even glancing up from the book she was skimming, “That was Jay who did that.”

Kai spluttered, ignoring the smug look on Jay’s face. “Okay, yeah, but we helped! And what about Aspheera? Or the Never Realm? That was all of us. And we didn’t have time to properly recuperate from that before we got launched right into Prime Empire!”

Pixal’s brow furrowed. “Y’know, he has a point…”

A frown flitted across Zane’s face. “I suppose we have been working for a long time…”

“That’s what I’ve been saying! Come on, let’s do something fun.”

“Not video games,” Cole groaned. “Jay and I spent the last three days playing a Lava Zombies tournament, and I’m all gamed-out.”

“No, let’s actually go somewhere. Like the-”

“The library!” Jay pitched.

“Or the museum!” Zane suggested.

“No!” Kai snapped. “Man, you guys are so lame. I meant somewhere fun. We should go to-”

“The beach!” Nya cried suddenly, standing up so quickly that she sent a pile of books toppling over. “Brilliant idea, Kai!”

“Wait, no,” he yelped. “That’s not what I was going to-”

But no one heard him. They were already scrambling to their feet, murmuring excitedly to one another.

“Guys, wait!” he cried. “Why would you want to go to the beach? It’s all sandy, and wet, and-”

“Don’t worry, Kai,” Nya giggled, “we won’t let the ocean hurt you.”

“That’s not-” he felt himself turning red as the others laughed. “That’s not what I meant! I just thought… wouldn’t laser tag or something be a lot more fun?”

The others glanced at each other, uncertain. Zane stepped forward. “Let’s take a vote. All in favor of laser tag, raise your hands.”

Kai lifted his hand, but no one else did. He scowled at them.

“And all in favor of the beach?”

Six hands went up.

“Seems like we have a clear winner. Let’s get going, shall we?”

“Do you have the towels?”

“All here!”

“What about the sunscreen?”

“Hold on- Jay, did you grab the sunscreen?”

“What?”

Lloyd cupped his hands around his mouth, yelling louder. “Did you grab the sunscreen?”

“Oh yeah, it’s here! Wait, do you have my-”

“Your what?” Lloyd called, walking over to him, passing Pixal and Zane as they came out of the kitchen. The female nindroid sighed.

“Can’t anything get done around here without everyone making such a racket?”

“Nope,” Nya elbowed her playfully. “When you’ve been with these idiots as long as I have, you get used to it.”

Pixal’s eyes widened. “I can’t imagine ever being used to all this.”

Nya smiled. “Did I mention I’m slightly deaf?”

“We finished making the picnic,” Zane told her, holding out the basket he was carrying. “Is everyone ready to go?”

Nya eyed the guys, who were running around the Monastery, barely avoiding tripping over one another. “‘Ready’ is an overstatement.”

“Hold your horses, we’re almost done,” Cole grunted, heaving the large beach bag over to them. “Have a little faith in us, Nya.”

Nya put her hand on her hip, waiting- and a second later, there was a crashing sound followed by an angry chorus of yells from Kai, Lloyd, and Jay.

Cole grimaced, rubbing the back of his head. “Okay, maybe you’re right to not have any faith in us.”

After an intense, fifteen-minute argument about what mode of transportation they would take, they ended up deciding on the city bus, and finally, finally got out the door. The bus ride went off without a hitch, for once, (except for a brief panic about not having the proper change for the bus fare, but luckily Zane had a few extra dollars on him), and before Nya knew it, they were staking out an area on Ninjago City beach. She was beginning to think this could actually work out.

Maybe.

“Check out my abs, dude.”

“They’re the same as last time.”

“Are not! I’m way more shredded than last time we went swimming.”

“Okay, that’s just a straight-up lie. I saw you sneak that extra piece of pie last night.”

“You better not be disrespecting my muscles, Flat Stanley.”

“Hey! I’m way more muscly than I used to be.”

“Are you kidding? We call you ‘green bean’ for a reason, and it’s not just because you’re the green ninja. You’re a twig!”

“I’m a twig? Have you seen Jay?”

“Hey, don’t rope me into this, green machine, and, for your information, I weigh a whole fifteen pounds more than you!”

“Yeah, well, you’re also two years older than me!”

“I think the lesson we need to learn here is that neither of you have abs anywhere near as pronounced as mine-”

Zane sighed, rolling his eyes. “Here, guys,” he held out a pouch to the group, “this is a waterproof pouch, you can store all your valuables in here.”

They quickly filled the pouch with phones, watches, and wallets. However, as Lloyd pulled back, he tripped over Jay’s foot, and half the guys collapsed into a pile, groaning.

“Jay! Get your foot out of my face!”

“Right after you get your elbow out of my ribs!”

Nya turned away from them, shaking her head. Glancing at Pixal, she asked, “Wanna help me get set up?”

The nindroid nodded, and they pulled the large picnic blanket out of the bag, unfolding it to lay it across the sand.

“Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon,” Kai cried, “You get back here right this instant!”

Nya looked up from the blanket to see Kai running through the sand after Lloyd, his feet sinking into the sand with each step, making it difficult for him to retain his balance. He waved a bottle of sunscreen at the green ninja. “It’s sunny out today! And you know how easily you burn!”

“No way!” Lloyd whined. “You always make me stay out of the water for at least twenty minutes to let it set, and it’s way too hot for me to wait that long! I wanna go swimming now.”

Kai lunged for him, and Lloyd yelped, barely dodging out of the way.

“Over here, Lloyd!” Jay cried, already wading into the shallows of the ocean. “He won’t follow you into the water!”

Lloyd hurried after him, splashing up water as he went, accidentally splattering Kai and causing the red ninja to flinch back with a yelp. Sure enough, he froze at the water’s edge, glaring at Jay and Lloyd, where they stood, only about ten feet away, laughing at him.

Zane rubbed a hand over his face, sighing. “They’re both going to get skin cancer, aren’t they?”

“At the very least, they’re going to be bright red tomatoes,” Cole laughed. “Oh, it’s going to be a blast when they take showers.”

Zane stared at him, horrified. “Please don’t let Jay do that again. He had the worst blisters, last time-”

Cole held up his hands. “It was a joke, Zane! A joke!”

Zane narrowed his eyes and didn’t reply.

Nya laughed, grabbing Pixal’s hand. “Come on. Wanna go bodyboarding with me?”

Pixal glanced at her. “I don’t know how.”

“That’s fine.” Nya stepped on the board, flipping it up into her hand and handing it to Pixal, before grabbing a second one for herself. “I can teach you!”

“Thanks, Nya.”

As they walked down towards the shore, they passed Kai and Cole, who had finally managed to get Jay and Lloyd out of the water. Cole had his arms locked around Jay, preventing him from running away as Kai slathered sunscreen across his face. Lloyd was sitting in the sand beside him, pouting, his face already smeared in white.

Nya grinned at him. “Can you guys handle yourselves for twenty minutes if Pix and I go out bodyboarding?”

Lloyd stuck his tongue out at her, and Kai rolled his eyes. “We’ll be fine, Nya. I think you’re forgetting we save the city on a regular basis? We’re perfectly capable.”

Nya put a hand near Pixal’s ear, whispering loudly into it. “Betcha anything the beach will be on fire by the time we get back.”

The two ran off, giggling at the sight of Kai’s smoldering glare, before he could set them on fire.

To Kai’s credit, he did not set the beach on fire, or anything, for that matter, but when Nya and Pixal returned, they found him and Cole shoveling sand onto Zane, who was chest-deep by this point.

“Zane!” Pixal exclaimed. “Are you alright?”

“When Kai told me he had something fun to show me, this wasn’t quite what I had imagined.”

“Aww, come on Zane!” Kai grinned. “I’m having a great time.”

Pixal shook her head, and stepped forward, grabbing Zane’s hand and pulling him up, sending sand cascading down everywhere. Cole and Kai groaned.

“Aww, come on, Pix, that took forever!” Cole muttered.

“Yeah, we were gonna shape it into a mermaid tail. Don’t you know how funny that would’ve been?”

“Humor is subjective.” Zane rubbed at his wrists. “Augh, now I’m going to have sand in my gears for weeks.” Shooting a glare at Kai, he added, “I’ll remember this the next time you ditch your swimming lessons.”

“Hey!” Kai yelped. “That’s totally different! Sand is warm, and solid, and most importantly, not dangerous!”

“You could suffocate,” Zane pointed out.

Kai scowled. “You’re a nindroid, you wouldn’t have suffocated.”

“You’re related to an elemental master of water. You won’t drown.”

“Being related to a master of water and being a master of water are two very different things! I control fire, not water, I can’t do anything to protect myself.”

Cole rolled his eyes. “You’re so lame. Remind me again why we brought our friend with aquaphobia to the beach?”

“Technically,” Zane said, raising a finger, “the word you’re looking for is thalassophobia. Kai doesn’t fear water in general, only large bodies, such as-”

“It was his idea,” Nya interrupted. “If it weren’t for him, we’d still be at the Monastery, filing papers.”

“I never suggested the beach!” Kai snapped. “That was your idea!”

“Yeah, well, your suggestions were lame. The beach was the obvious choice.”

“Hey,” Pixal interjected, suddenly realizing they were missing a couple of people. “Where are Jay and Lloyd?”

Cole sighed, pointing up towards their stuff, where Jay and Lloyd were struggling with a large, yellow duck inflatable that was very much not inflated at the moment. Jay had his lips around the mouthpiece, his face red.

“Blow harder, Jay,” Lloyd insisted, hovering by his side. “You’re hardly doing anything!”

Jay pulled his head back, breathing out heavily as the redness faded from his cheeks. “I’d like to see you do better! You’d probably pass out after a minute.”

“Would not!” Lloyd snatched the floaty away from him, blowing hard into the mouthpiece, putting even less air into the floaty than Jay had. His face reddened as he huffed desperately, although he still wasn’t making much progress. After a few moments, Jay pulled it away from him.

“Okay, that’s enough. I don’t want you to actually pass out.”

Lloyd glared at him, panting. “I wasn’t… going to… pass out.”

Jay sighed, grabbing the inflatable and staring at what looked to be the eyes and a very flat, crumpled-looking beak. “At this rate, we’re never going to get Mr. Quackington blown up.”

Lloyd’s nose wrinkled. “Mr. Quackington?”

Jay blinked at him. “Yeah, that’s his name.”

“No, it’s not! His name is Mr. Waddles!”

“Mr. Waddles? What kind of juvenile name is that?”

“Oh, like Mr. Quackington is any better!”

“It is! It’s loads better!”

“Nuh-uh.”

“Is so!”

“It’s not!” Lloyd snapped, green energy sparking between his fingers. Jay glanced down at them thoughtfully. “Hey, what if…”

Lloyd was evidently catching on to Jay’s train of thought, his eyes lighting up. “We can use my powers to inflate Mr. Waddles!”

Jay narrowed his eyes. “Quackington.”

Lloyd bared his teeth, the small fangs glinting. “Waddles.”

Jay sighed. “Okay, whatever. We can use your powers to inflate Mr. Waddles.”

Lloyd grinned widely, whether about the promise of getting his inflated duck or having won the name debate with Jay, Pixal couldn’t tell. He held up a hand and formed a basketball-sized sphere of green energy. Jay’s eyes widened, and he held the mouthpiece up to the energy. Lloyd channeled it inside, watching with glee as the duck puffed up, the yellow plastic slowly tinging green, making the duck look like he was about to be sick.

Zane took a step forward, holding his hand out. “Lloyd, wait-”

There was a sharp snapping noise as the floaty popped, and Lloyd and Jay cried out in horror as the yellow pieces of plastic fluttered to the ground. Lloyd fell to his knees, gripping the busted plastic and wailing, and Jay landed next to him, crying, “No! Mr. Waddles, you were so young!”

“I can’t believe he’s really gone,” Lloyd sniffed. “He was my best friend in the whole world.”

Kai threw up his hands. “Great. You spend the last several years of your life looking out for him only to get replaced by his inflatable plastic duck.”

“Oookay,” Nya said, walking over to Jay and Lloyd and ushering them towards the picnic blanket. “Someone’s obviously been out in the sun too long. Go sit under the umbrella and let’s have something to eat.”

“Good idea,” Zane agreed. “I’m sure we’re all getting hungry. Jay, could you grab the picnic basket? It’s right behind you.”

The lightning ninja grabbed the basket, peering inside briefly as he carried it towards them. “I hope you brought the Pringles. I could really go for some of those right now- augh!”

Before anyone could stop him, Jay was falling to the ground, the basket flying out of his hands and landing sideways in the sand.

“Jay!” Kai cried. “Look what you’ve done to our picnic!”

“Hey! That was totally your fault! Why did you leave your shoes right in the middle of the sand, perfectly positioned for someone to trip over?”

“Why were you clumsy enough to get in the way of my shoes?”

“Guys, guys, it’s okay,” Zane assured. Walking over, he carefully lifted the basket out of the sand. “I’m sure it’s still salvageable.”

“Yeah, but now all our food is going to taste like sand,” Lloyd moaned.

“Lloyd, the food barely touched the sand,” Nya pointed out.

“Doesn’t matter. Every time you go to the beach, if the food gets even remotely close to the sand, it always gets sand in it. Every time. It’s one of the great mysteries of the universe.”

“Well, I think you’ll survive,” she said, passing Lloyd a sandwich and a bag of pretzels. Lloyd took them, but narrowed his eyes.

“Brings a whole new meaning to the word ‘sandwich.’”

“Just eat your food, mister.”

Lloyd shot her a glare, but grudgingly obliged. As Pixal bit into her own sandwich, she realized Lloyd was right, she could feel granules of sand between her teeth as she chewed.

“Hey… at least it adds a little crunch, right?” Cole grinned.

Kai grimaced. “Next time, I elect we don’t let Jay anywhere near the picnic basket.”

Jay chucked a grape at him, but Kai turned at the last second, catching it in his mouth. “Ha!” His gleeful expression faded as he caught sight of something behind Jay. “Um, Lloyd, you have someone you wanna introduce us to?”

The group turned to see a seagull had approached them, tilting its head where it stood only a couple feet away from Lloyd. The green ninja was staring at the bird with wide eyes, an awed expression on his face.

“Lloyd,” Nya sighed, “please don’t tell me you fed it.”

“He’s not an it,” Lloyd snapped. “His name is Scully.”

“Great.” Nya rubbed her hands over her face. “We’re already into name territory.”

“Scully?” Kai’s nose wrinkled. “Isn’t that the name of the seagull from The Little Mermaid?”

“No, that’s Scuttle,” Lloyd sniffed. “They’re completely different.”

“Lloyd,” Pixal scolded, reaching for Lloyd’s wrist just as he tossed another chunk of his sandwich at the seagull, “Feeding wildlife is not a good idea, it can be dangerous-”

Lloyd shrieked suddenly as the bird launched itself at Lloyd’s face. He scrambled to his feet, screaming, and Kai lunged forward, pushing the others out of the way. “Move, move!”

“Get it off me, get it off me!” Lloyd shrieked as the bird’s wings flapped in his face, sending feathers everywhere.

“Blast it with your powers!” Kai called, looking worried but keeping a respectable distance.

“I can’t! He’s on my face!”

“Well, I can’t do it, I’ll set you on fire! Nya, you do it!”

“I’m trying, I’m trying,” the water ninja spat through gritted teeth, globes of water already forming in her hands. “I just need to get a clear shot! For the love of… Lloyd, stop moving so much!”

Lloyd hardly seemed to hear her. “He’s going to claw my eyes out,” he wailed, batting weakly at the creature.

“Nya!”

Nya quickly thrust her hands forward, sending a large ball of water at Lloyd’s head, drenching him and the seagull. The bird squawked angrily, falling to the ground.

“Oh my gosh, are you okay?” Nya and Kai darted over to him, Nya taking his face in her hands as Kai peered over her shoulder. A small red scratch stretched across his left cheek, but apart from that, he appeared unharmed, just frazzled.

“Dude!” Kai cried. “You just got attacked. By a seagull!”

“It owned you!”

Lloyd shot Jay a glare. “Did not.”

“You should have seen your face!” Jay laughed. “Oh wait, you couldn’t- there was a bird in the way!”

Lloyd crossed his arms. “I’d like to remind you how you reacted that time when my uncle set that berserk chicken on us.”

“The chicken had lightning powers. Hardly comparable to a simple seafowl, bud.”

“Ugh, I hope this doesn’t get infected,” Nya muttered, running her finger along the scratch. “We should probably get you checked for rabies when we get home.”

“Nya, I’m fine,” Lloyd groaned, pushing her off. “A seagull isn’t going to give me rabies.”

Nya shrugged. “With your luck, I can never be sure.”

“This is why you don’t give food to wild animals, Lloyd, it makes them bolder-”

“Watch out, Lloyd!” Jay shrieked suddenly, and they whipped around to see the seagull had caught its second wind, squawking as it charged at Lloyd.

Lloyd shrieked, taking off down the beach with the seagull in pursuit. Nya sighed, putting a hand on her head. Kai grinned, walking over to her and putting a hand on her shoulder. “Do you think he’ll learn his lesson?”

“No,” Nya said without hesitation. “Absolutely not. That’s the sad part.”

“Hey,” Cole said, pointing a finger down the beach. “The volleyball court’s just opened up. You guys wanna play?”

“Sure. Tell Lloyd he can join us when he gets that seagull taken care of.”

Nya glanced towards the green ninja, who was currently lobbing balls of energy at the bird and missing by an embarrassingly wide berth. “Looks like it could be a while.”

“Great job, team!” Nya cheered, high-fiving Pixal and shooting a grin at Cole. “Although, if I’m being honest, the rest of you didn’t put up much of a competition.”

“Hey, don’t look at me!” Kai snapped. “I was carrying the team! Jay, Lloyd, were you planning on helping me anytime soon?”

“I was trying!” Jay insisted. “But you kept getting in my way!”

“Because every time I let you get the ball, you dropped it!”

“Hey! I never said I was good at volleyball, okay? Why are you attacking me, Lloyd sucked too!”

“It’s not like I ever had time to fit in volleyball practice between all my green ninja training! It wasn’t exactly a top priority!” “Are you telling me you’ve never played before?” Kai spluttered.

“I’ve played!” Lloyd insisted. “Uh… once or twice.”

Kai facepalmed. “Why did I let you come on my team?”

Lloyd grinned widely. “‘Cause you love me.”

Cole elbowed him. “It’s because he lost the coin toss and Nya got to pick first.”

“Hey!” Jay yelped. “Are you telling me you would have picked me last?”

“After I saw you play, yeah,” Cole snorted.

“I’m still not convinced on some of those calls, Zane,” Kai said, walking over to the nindriod. “I don’t think that one play near the third point was a foul.”

“Hey, the ref’s call is law,” Nya smirked. “Stop trying to cheat your way to victory, Kai.”

“I’m not cheating! Zane’s girlfriend is on your team! He’s obviously biased!”

“I’m a nindriod, Kai. I cannot be biased.”

“Stop being a sore loser, Kai.” Behind her, a wave swelled up. She raised her hand- then pointed it forward at Kai.

Her brother shrieked as the seawater drenched him.

“Nya! What’d you do that for?”

“You deserved it, with all the whining you were doing. Besides, you looked hot. I was just doing you a favor.”

“It’s alright,” Lloyd laughed. “You can share my towel, don’t worry.” As he handed Kai the towel, the fire ninja eyed it shrewdly.

“It’s got ducks on it. Of course it does.”

“Hey, you want the towel or not?”

“No, I’m taking the towel.” Kai wrapped the towel around himself, shivering, unfurling the ducks for all to see. Cole snickered, and Kai shot him a glare.

“Should we pack up, then?”

Zane nodded. “If we want to be back in time for dinner, probably.”

The team trudged back to their blanket, wet and sandy, but chatting amiably. They had nearly packed up all their things when Lloyd cried out suddenly.

“Where’s my wallet?”

Zane frowned. “Didn’t you put it in the valuables pouch?”

“I thought I did, but…” he paused. “Oh, wait. I tripped over Jay. I must’ve forgotten to put it in after that.”

“Well, then, it’s gotta be around here somewhere. What color is it, Lloyd?”

“What do you think? Green.”

They spent a good ten minutes searching through their entire bag and the surrounding sand, to no avail. It quickly became clear that if Lloyd’s wallet had ever fallen around here in the first place, it wasn’t here now.

Kai shrugged. “Oh well. It’s not that big of a deal. You don’t have any cards, and I don’t think you were carrying any of the cash. We can get you a new one.”

“No, but I had the things in there!”

Cole frowned. “The things?”

“You know.” Lloyd lowered his voice. “The things. That the mayor gave us?”

“What?!” Jay yelped. “Those were in there?” “You lost them?” Kai cried. “Lloyd, how could you?”

“It’s not like I did it on purpose!” Kai groaned, rubbing his face. “We should’ve never trusted you with them. Or at least split them up, so they weren’t all together.”

“I still do not understand.” Pixal frowned. “What are these things that are so important?”

“They’re a top-secret gift from the mayor,” Jay whispered. “We’re not supposed to tell anyone we have them. Not that telling anyone now would matter anyway, because we don’t have them anymore.”

“It’s not my fault!” Lloyd insisted. “It’s that stupid seagull’s, he’s the one who distracted me-” Lloyd paused, his eyes widening. “That’s it! The seagull must’ve swiped my wallet when it was chasing me!”

“Looks like we have a lead,” Kai growled.

“Wait a minute, does anyone else hear that mysterious music-”

“Oh no,” Pixal muttered, putting a hand on her forehead. “Zane, please don’t tell me you’re going to do this again.”

“It seemed that, after only a few weeks, it was time for me to crack yet another case.” The odd, deep voice rang out, and they turned to see Zane slipping on a fedora.

“Where did that even come from,” Pixal despaired. “I’m positive you didn’t bring that with you. Positive.”

“Again, I was to be accompanied by my trusty assistant, but this time, my highly trained ninja associates would also be coming along, all determined to reclaim what someone had stolen in the heist.”

Jay glanced between Pixal and Zane. “What is happening right now? Am I supposed to know what’s happening?”

Pixal shook her head. “It’s a long story. Just go with it.”

Zane tipped his hat down. “Already, we were off with a very promising lead. I suspected the culprit to be the feathered fiend that had been spotted lurking around at the scene of the crime only an hour prior.”

Kai snorted, placing a hand on Jay’s shoulder. “Oh, this is gold! Did you mess with his voice again, Jay?”

“No, I didn’t touch him! Pixal, you didn’t…”

She shook her head. “Believe me, I wouldn’t do this if you paid me. It was all him.”

Jay grinned. “What do we do next… detective Zane?” He and Kai simultaneously burst into laughter, leaning against each other for support.

Zane side-eyed them. “The primary suspect was as clear as a black bear in a snowstorm, yet the whereabouts of the creature were still unknown. It had vanished into thin air, without leaving so much as a trace in its stead.”

“Hey,” Lloyd said suddenly, leaning down to pick something up off of the sand, “What about this?”

“It appeared to be part of the plumage of a species of avian native to these shores. Could it belong to the specimen we were looking for?”

Kai plucked the feather from Lloyd’s fingers, examining it. “The feather was white with a dark tip, definitely having originated from a seagull- although the spiked, disturbed edges implied that this was from no ordinary gull- it was from one who had recently been in a fight.”

Jay grinned. “It seemed like we had hit the jackpot. Already, we were one step closer to tracking down this culprit.”

Pixal groaned. “Don’t you two start, too. It was bad enough with just Zane.”

Nya grimaced. “Yeah, this is already getting annoying.”

“How is a feather going to tell us where the seagull is now?” Cole asked.

“I could sense the wind was blowing in from the northwest,” Zane narrated. “If we wanted to find the culprit of the caper, we would have to walk upwind, hopefully leading us to the source of the feather.”

“Alright,” Pixal sighed, “let’s get this over with.”

“And so,” Zane grinned, “The Great Gull Caper began.”

The team trudged up the beach for about twenty minutes, to no avail. They passed many other beachgoers, pointing and staring as the ninja passed, but no seagulls were in sight.

“Are you sure about this, Zane?” Pixal asked.

“The feathered suspect had gained an hour’s head start in its escape from the scene, meaning we would have to hasten our pace if we ever hoped to catch up.”

“Oh, I am not walking an hour just to find this thing. Are we sure it’s that important?”

“Yes!” the guys yelped in unison.

“It’s a very important gift from the mayor! It would be rude to lose it,” Jay said. “We have to get it back!”

“Couldn’t you just ask for another… whatever they are?”

“No! They’re one of a kind!” “Well, can we at least hurry this up? Frankly, I’m getting quite tired of Zane’s shenanigans.”

Zane grinned at her. “Although she voiced her disapproval, my assistant knew the efficiency of my methods, as they had gotten us out of a pinch the last time things had been amok.”

“First of all, I was the one who successfully found Dyer last time. You just ended up getting caught.”

“Perhaps, but you used my techniques.”

Pixal huffed. “Second, I don’t appreciate that you keep calling me your assistant. If anything, we’re partners!”

Zane adjusted his fedora. “So it was a promotion she was after, eh? Well, if my assistant could prove her worth by properly complying with my techniques in this case, she may find herself with a loftier position in the future.”

Pixal sighed. “Whatever. Let’s just find the stupid bird, and go.”

The group trekked after Zane again, and Pixal wondered how long they would be here, when Zane suddenly stopped, causing half of the gang to crash into him.

“What?” Jay yelped. “What’s wrong? Why’d we stop?”

Zane pointed near his feet. “It seemed like the culprit had been careless enough to leave behind tracks in the sand.”

Pixal peered over his shoulder. Sure enough, the tracks of some avian species left a trail in the sand- and after consulting her database, it appeared to match the foot of a seagull.

“We’re getting closer!” Cole said. “It has to be around here somewhere.”

Nya’s eyes went wide, and she pointed towards something in the distance. “Look!”

Down the beach, a large group of seagulls was flocking around a half-eaten pretzel, flapping their wings and squawking as they tried to push past each other.

“It could be any of them,” Lloyd despaired. “How are we going to know which one was the one who stole my wallet?”

Jay smirked. “There’s only one way to find out.”

Lloyd eyed him nervously. “How?”

“One seagull, in particular, has come to associate you with food. One seagull has been known to chase you down.”

“Oh,” Lloyd paled, taking a step back and waving his hands. “Oh, no, I do not like where this is heading…”

“Come on, Lloyd, do it for the team,” Cole pleaded.

“You are the one who lost them in the first place,” Kai agreed. “It’s only fair.”

Lloyd groaned. “Why do I let you bully me into these things?”

“Go on,” Nya gave him a gentle shove. “We don’t have all day!”

Sticking his tongue out at her, Lloyd stepped forward, towards the seagulls. Several of them looked his way, a few flapping their wings anxiously and squawking in warning. Lloyd stopped, swallowing.

“Um. Hey. I don’t suppose any of you have seen a green wallet around here?”

Jay rolled his eyes. “They can’t understand you. Get closer!”

“Okay! I’m going, jeez-” he broke off with a yelp as a seagull darted in front of him, nearly tripping him as he stepped on its tail.

The seagull shrieked, and, in a flurry of feathers, the flock broke into a frenzied panic. Lloyd’s eyes widened, and he cried out, running away and frantically ducking swooping seagulls.

He darted behind Kai as a last nervy seagull hopped after him. Kai held up a fist, which burst into flame, scaring the bird off. Kai glanced back at Lloyd, amusement sparkling in his dark eyes. “You okay, bud?”

Lloyd glared. “Don’t look at me like that. These birds are vicious!”

“Look!” Pixal pointed at a gull that had remained behind. With the others out of the way, she could see the small, green wallet between its beak.

“That’s the one!” Cole cried. “After it!”

For ninja, the group was embarrassingly unstealthy as they clamored after the bird, shooting elemental powers at it and screaming as they narrowly avoided each other’s blasts, so that by the time the seagull reached the water, the beach was a mess of crystalized sand, crevices in the ground, and various burn marks from fire, lightning, and energy.

“It’s a seagull!” Nya cried. “We’ve faced giant snakes, lords of darkness, elemental masters, Oni, more criminals and gangsters than I can count, and an evil video game AI, yet we can’t catch one measly seagull? It shouldn’t be this hard, you guys!”

“It’s getting away,” Jay cried, pointing at the bird, who had finally taken flight and was heading out over the ocean.

“No!” Lloyd moaned. “Now we’re never going to get it back!”

“Not on my watch,” Nya growled, racing past them towards the docks. “Come on!” “Oh no,” Kai groaned. “Nya Smith, whatever you are thinking, stop it right now, because I’m not doing it.” “Come on, Kai,” Lloyd insisted, grabbing his wrist and yanking him along. “We have to hurry!”

They raced after Nya, who was running down the dock towards a man who was examining the boats. Kai followed them more slowly, taking careful steps.

“Sir, we need to use a boat, right away! We’ll pay for it, we promise!”

The man shook his head. “Sorry, ma’am, but these are all private boats. The only one we have is that one,” he pointed to a small, worn-looking fishing boat, “and the motor’s broken, so it’s of no use to anyone.”

“It doesn’t matter, I can take care of that. Everyone, get in!”

“W-wait,” the man stuttered, looking flustered.

“We’ll bring it right back, I promise! Now, come on, we don’t have much time!”

“No!” Kai insisted, as everyone else piled in. “Nuh-uh. No way. Not in a million years. You are not bringing me out into the middle of the ocean in a tiny, crowded boat with a busted engine!”

“You don’t need an engine when you’ve got me!” Nya raised her hand, and the water swirled under the boat, rocking it slightly. “Now, come on, we don’t have time for this!” “Y’know what.” Kai took a couple of steps back from the boat. “I’m good. I’ll stay here. You guys have fun finding the wallet. I’ll cheer you on from the beach. The dry, dry beach.”

“Nope.” Cole reached forward, grabbing him by the arm and pulling him in. “This is your gift we’re saving, too. If you want to get part of it, you’re coming with.”

“Finally!” Nya huffed. The water rippled beneath them, and suddenly, it was propelling their boat, and they were off.

“Where’s the bird?” Nya asked. “Does anyone see it?” “Over there!” Cole pointed slightly towards their left, where the seagull was gliding away with surprising speed. Getting into the boat had slowed them down, and it had gotten a large head start.

Nya gritted her teeth. “Hold on.”

“Don’t go faster!” Kai yelped from where he huddled near the middle of the boat, protectively sandwiched between Lloyd and Cole. “If you tip this boat, I will never forgive you.”

“I know what I’m doing,” Nya growled, although the boat slowed slightly as they continued.

“Our team continued to chase the thief, determined to put an end to the Great Gull Caper and put the culprit to justice. Even when our path took us across the raging waters of the ocean, with nothing but a rusty, broken old boat, and deep, swirling waters around us, filled with the dark abyss and the creatures that lurked there…”

“You mean like sharks?” Lloyd perked, peering over the edge. “Did you see any? I wanna see one!”

“Nope,” Kai yelped, pulling himself into a ball as he sat down on the floor of the boat. “Nopety nope nope nope. I’m done. I’m outta here.”

“The prospect of sharks was a dire one, but one we were willing to take. We would get that wallet back, no matter the cost- even if it meant competition from this fierce predator of the sea.”

Kai screamed into his hands. “Just end me now!”

“What Zane means to say,” Pixal said, elbowing Zane sharply, “is that sharks are actually very off-put by the taste of human flesh, and do not go after humans on purpose.”

Kai stared at her. “Oh joy, now a shark can devour my flesh by accident, what a relief.”

“Do not worry, Kai,” she told him. “There is only one estimated death by shark per year in the greater Ninjago City area.”

“Knowing my luck,” Kai grumbled, “I’ll be that one.”

“Did anyone bring their phone with?” Lloyd asked. “I wanna get a good picture when the sharks come for Kai.”

“I call dibs on his katana,” Jay exclaimed. “Y’know, the super flashy one with the flaming dragon carved into the handle?”

Lloyd wrinkled his nose at him. “Why would you want a fire dragon on your katana? You’re the lightning ninja!”

“Hey, just because my element is lightning, doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate a super dope fire design when I see one-”

“Guys,” Cole sighed, pushing his way between the two arguing boys. “No one is getting eaten. We’re perfectly safe here, on this boat.”

“Cole’s right,” Pixal agreed. “The sharks around this area are smaller, reef dwellers, and won’t come after us. They may, however, come after our seagull friend if he gets too close to the water.”

Kai made a noise in the back of his throat, and Cole scowled at her. “Thanks for the help, Pix.”

“Nya,” Jay whined, “the seagull’s getting further away! We have to go faster!”

“Don’t!” Pixal cried. “This boat has not been manufactured to withstand a lot of weight. With seven people, especially when two of them are titanium, going too fast would be sure to capsize us.”

“I told you I should’ve stayed behind on the shore,” Kai wailed.

Lloyd leaned further over the edge, raising a hand to his forehead to keep the glare off of his face as he peered intently into the water. “Is… is that a shark?”

Kai stared at him. “Shut up. You’re just baiting.”

Lloyd shook his head, his eyes lighting up in a way that was not reassuring in the slightest. “I’m not! It’s a shark! It’s a real, live shark! I’ve never seen one this close before! Except at like, an aquarium!”

Kai closed his eyes, rocking himself gently. “You’re lying. You stupid liar, I hate you.”

Cole peered over, following Lloyd’s gaze, and promptly bit his lip. “You have got to be kidding me.”

“This is a dumb prank, you guys!” Kai was half-yelling by this point.

“Stop being so loud,” Lloyd hissed. “You’ll scare it!”

Kai blinked at him. “I’ll scare it?”

Lloyd crossed his arms. “A scared shark is an aggressive shark.”

Kai’s mouth snapped shut.

“I can’t believe this,” Cole muttered. “Did we really not bring any weapons?”

“No!” Lloyd yelped. “Cole, you wouldn’t!”

“I would if it kept us from being eaten.”

“For the last time, sharks don’t eat humans!”

Cole ignored him. “Well? Did we?”

Nya snorted. “Why would we bring weapons to the beach?”

“Hey, with how often this city gets attacked, I wouldn’t be surprised.”

Nya rolled her eyes. “It was supposed to be our day off.”

“It’s fine,” Pixal reported, keeping a careful eye on the shark. “It’s swimming away now. As long as we leave it alone, we’re safe.”

Kai frowned. “Looks like the gull isn’t so convinced, though.”

Pixal glanced up. Sure enough, the seagull was eyeing the shark nervously, pumping its wings as it flew higher and higher above the surface of the water.

“Do something!” Jay shrieked. “If we don’t stop it now, it’s going to get away for good!”

“Lloyd!” Nya cried. “Is your wallet waterproof?”

“What?”

“Just answer the question!” “Yes! Yes, it is!”

Nya gritted her teeth. “Hold on, everyone!”

Suddenly, a vast wave rose out of the water, looming over the seagull.

Kai’s eyes widened. “Nya, be careful, you’ll hit us too-”

But it was already too late, the wave crashing down, downing the seagull, and soaking them in saltwater. The team cried out, and Kai screamed, throwing his arms over his head in a futile attempt to protect himself. As they all tried to lurch away from the spray, the boat rocked precariously, and, for a horrifying moment, they were suspended there, on the point between balance and capsize.

And then that moment was over, and they were all falling into the ocean.

Pixal’s world immediately dimmed as she plunged into the water, quietness enveloping her like a blanket. For a moment, she was too shocked to do anything, until a foot thrashed past her face, snapping her out of her trance as she swam towards the surface.

A couple of feet before she reached it, a metal hand snatched her wrist and pulled her the rest of the way up.

“Pixal!” Zane cried, his detective voice dropped. “Are you alright?”

“I’m fine. What about everyone else? Are we all here?”

Zane nodded his head behind her, and she turned to see the others all within a couple of feet. Cole had his hands on the now upside-down boat, trying to use his strength to push it over, but it was hard for him to get a good grip and stay afloat at the same time. Just behind him, Jay was spitting out a mouthful of seawater, sending ripples across the surface of the ocean as he treaded water. Lloyd was doing the same a couple of feet away, only the green ninja was struggling a lot more because of the arms wrapped tightly around his neck.

“Don’t let me go, Lloyd!” Kai yelped, although the feat would’ve been impossible even if Lloyd had wanted to- the fire ninja was clinging to him like a barnacle. “I can’t swim!”

Lloyd sighed. “I know that, Kai. It’s the only reason I’m letting you hold on to me like this.”

“I can’t believe this happened,” Kai cried. “We’re going to die out here. This is the worst day off ever.”

“Hey!” Lloyd snapped. “It’s not my fault this happened!”

Nya shot them all a sharp glare from where she was drifting alongside the boat. She didn’t even bother to tread water like the rest of them, instead using her powers to keep herself afloat. “It was going to work until you guys made such a big fuss about getting a little wet and tipped the boat.”

Cole sighed. “We’re not going to die. As soon as I get this right side up again, we’ll climb up and get out of here. Can you give me a hand, Zane?”

As the nindriod moved to help him, Kai suddenly went rigid.

“Lloyd,” he whispered.

“What, Kai?”

“Something just bumped my foot.”

“It’s probably just seaweed, Kai,” Lloyd sighed, looking down- and promptly froze.

“No one. Move.”

Jay squeezed his eyes shut. “Oh no, oh gosh, don’t tell me that’s what I think it is, this is not happening-”

“Jay, shut up,” Nya whispered, her face pale as she watched the dark shape lurking below them in the water.

“Everyone, stay calm,” Pixal murmured. “Don’t make any sudden movements and try to look it in the eyes.”

“Please, the last thing I’m gonna do is look at it,” Kai breathed, burying his face in Lloyd’s hair.

After a moment, the shark slowly swam past, losing interest.

“It doesn’t care about us,” Zane realized. “It wants the seagull.”

Several yards away, the gull was floating on the water, still trying to shake off the moisture from Nya’s wave. Suddenly realizing the danger it was in, the bird raised its wings- and launched itself into the air, just as fierce jaws snapped against empty air where the seagull had been less than a second ago.

Kai’s fingers dug tighter into Lloyd’s shoulders, and Pixal caught Jay biting his lip as he swallowed back a scream, but, its prey lost, the shark was already swimming away.

“Gotcha,” Nya murmured, reaching a hand out and snatching up the wallet, which the seagull had dropped in all the commotion, before it could sink to the bottom of the ocean.

“Okay. That’s great. We got it. Now can we get out of here?” Kai pleaded.

After a minute, they finally got the boat flipped over, and Cole hauled himself aboard before helping to lift the others. Ten minutes later, they were all safely out of the water and on their way back to the dock, and Pixal had never felt more relieved by the fact.

“So,” Jay asked, as the boat glided through the water, leaning closer to Nya. “Did they survive all that?”

“Let’s see,” Nya murmured, opening up Lloyd’s wallet. Pixal leaned forward, anxious to see what all the fuss had been about.

“Yes!” Jay cried, pulling out seven slips of paper. “They’re all here!”

“Wait.” Pixal snatched one from his hand, quickly scanning it. “A summer pass for free all-you-can-eat ice cream from the Dairy Dragon?”

“Yup,” Jay smiled, passing them out to the others. “The mayor gave them to us as a gift after we saved the city from Prime Empire. That’s what we were going to do today, after the beach, actually.”

“You’re telling me,” Pixal deadpanned. “That we just risked our lives. For free ice cream.”

“Free ice cream is free ice cream, Pix.”

“You’ll understand once you’ve tried their butter pecan,” Nya told her. “It’s to die for.”

“Butter pecan?” Jay spluttered. “No way, the Ninjapolitan is best.��

“You heathen, chocolate fudge is obviously the best flavor-”

“What are you guys talking about, mint chocolate chip is superior!”

“You just like it because it’s green.”

“Do not!”

“Do so!” Nya sighed, putting her head in her hands. “Here we go again.”

“Calm down, all of you,” Pixal said. “You can get whatever flavor of ice cream you want. Just do me a favor and try not to end up capsizing us in the middle of the ocean this time.”

Jay hummed. “No promises.”

Here we are! What a journey, and while perhaps this season wasn't at MoM level it was REALLY good, with great new villains/allies, great little throwbacks and an awesome story! 🤩

THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM

This title really summarize my feelings so far, like, I'm seriously wondering how it will move on from now, but I do expect the outcome to be CRAZY 🤯

I'M SORRY WHY ARE WE PUTTING THE TITLE SCREEN WITHOUT THE INTRO?? THAT'S A FIRST EPISODE STUFF AND IT HONESTLY SCARES ME??? It reminds me of Winds of Change too and that episode was WOW 😭😭😭

Wojira seems to be a little smaller than the Devourer maybe? His head way bigger than the bounty, while hers is not that massive even in comparison with Kalmaar

I might be wrong but at first glance, I stand by my opinion and by the superiority of the OG giant snake 🤷‍♀️

This type of plot twist reminds me of our early seasons. Zane sacrificing himself, Garmadon giving up his life, those moments that made me so curious and excited about the following. I have no idea what will be the outcome for this, but I can't wait to find out

With that out of the way, AMAZING SEASON 😍😍😍 I think this finale beats MoM's, just because it was really unexpected and opens up a SEA of possibilities... yeah too soon 😭

I'm still shaken, my world, they did something HUGE and I do hope it will be a good shake to the entire Ninjago plotline. Nya is "gone", we still don't know about the person behind all that vengestone, we haven't heard from Garmy in forever, there are so many good ideas out there now that they've set the ground for more 🤩🤩

Voice acting was *chef's kiss*, not only for the villain which I already stressed enough about, I think Kelly reached a new level of emotional intimacy with Nya and I'm so happy she showed her skills 💜💜

Animation is TOP, there's little to no point into saying anything else since they showed it very clearly in the latest season ☺

This was the emotional, witty and engaging writing I was looking for! Good jokes, meaningful dialogues, emotional scenes, everything was really good and I'm gonna rewatch some scenes especially for that 😍

It turned out having Maya and Ray back was kind of a distraction to fool us all 😅😅 Well played actually, and it was very cool seeing them again in any case 🙋‍♀️

And now? Jay lost his love, I have no idea if the show will work on him getting over her or hold onto her memory (thinking of Jay probably the latter, although I do think that handling the first would be an interesting idea). KAI LOST HIS SISTER 😢😢😢 I have no doubt he's gonna beat himself up for it, like he did when Zane was gone too. Everyone lost their friend, she had become such a vital part of the team and now she is not here anymore it will be hard...

They are back with the four plus one green savior formation, I sincerely don't know how I feel about that 😅 I'm always happy when we get the OGs, but this is about going on without Nya... maybe Skylor will be called? Or Pixal will be more active? That could be interesting to see, who knows 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Gosh, how are they going to handle the next season? It will have to give A LOT of answers to the millions questions we all have right now. Man I can't wait, it could be anything!!! This is a Ninjago revolution!

But if I have to mention a little complain, and I'm a fangirl so I absolutely have to, Kai didn't show much of a reaction to Nya's "departure". Okay, she didn't straight up die like in Skybound (I'm gonna fear all BOUND seasons from now on 😱), but he's her brother and he loves deeply his family. Either we're gonna see him go all out next season, or the writers really did only focus on Jaya. A tiny bit salty... but you got me a fantastic finale so I'll move on 👍

Outstanding, I'm blown away. Whenever I think I'm used to this show they do stuff like this. I'm so glad and sad you guys 😅 But mostly happy that despite everything I still get very strong emotions while I watch this long time favorite show of mine 💜💜💜

What else can I say at this point? ONTO NEXT SEASON!!! 🤩🤩🤩

Misako: The Most hated Character in Ninjago

Misako Garmadon! Wife of Garmadon and mother to green ninja Lloyd, but also the most hated character in the Ninjago roster!

Not only because she abandoned her son at Darkely Boarding School for Bad Boys in an effort to discover a way for her evil husband and choose one son not to have a fight to the death. Which seems sound, besides leaving your son at a Boarding School, instead of with his uncle who seems pretty capable of taking care of a child (I’ll get into that in a bit). Although I'll play devil’s advocate for a minute and say it was so Lloyd didn’t think his father was the massive piece shit that everyone could/would make him out to be.

Although in Misako’s debut episode: The Stone Army, Lloyd shows disdain for his mother, because she abandoned him, which is more than fair! Although it only takes him a small little history lesson, goes more in-depth about his own prophecy to forgive her and treat her like a mother for the rest of the series because it makes sense to leave your son at Boarding School instead of HIS OWN UNCLE!

Now we know from Season 5 of the series that Wu is more than capable of taking care of the kid(s) given his experience with Morro. Although let me play devil’s advocate, once again in Misako’s favor, and say that given the fact that Morro later ran away in his pursuit to become the boy in green and went missing/died made Misako apprehensive to Wu take care of a child.

*(I don’t think that would make much sense because she states in her debut episode that she KNEW that Lloyd would be the green ninja before even Wu. The only reason she does not leave Lloyd with him is: her wanting to put off the fulfillment of the prophecy.)

It seems very odd that Misako’s poor parenting is never addressed beyond at most a 5-minute conversation, and quickly dismissed like it didn’t happen is very lacking. I understand this show is for children and trying to explain why her actions of “protection” are bad would possibly be difficult, trying to pass her actions off as if they didn’t happen is another case of bad writing.

Besides her horrible actions as a mother, she had made some other choice actions as a person in general in regards to Wu especially. Misako is established to be Garmadon’s wife, although estranged, and obviously that they (with the confines of a children show) loved each other enough to have a child! Although in the episode The Day Ninjago Stood Still It is implied that Wu has feelings for Misako (and he has since they met) and that Misako may reciprocate as she even states “I should have chosen you,” to Wu they are alone. But once the Overlord is defeated in Season 2 and Garmadon is relinquished of his “evil part,” Misako and Garmadon rebuild their relationship for the two-season good daddy Garm is around. Although the rebuilding is promptly destroyed when it is revealed that Garmadon forged his name on a love letter Wu wrote Misako, making him a bit of a liar and a coward (how Misako was able to get the two sons of God to fall in love in with her in the first place, and I can’t get a simple match a Bumble anymore is fucking beyond me!). And dispute the fact at Garmadon sacrifices himself for the name of all that is holy in the episode The Corridor of Elders, instead of I don’t know morning you husband who loved you despite his fault and attempted to make up for it and showing that he truly cared for his son when he was evil and then even greater father when he was good, Misako is promptly up Wu’s ass the following seasons.

The only parents that we can compare Misako to are Ray and Maya, As Ed and Eda along with Dr. Julien are extremely good parents to their children. Lou’s major fault with Cole was projection and the want Cole to follow in his feet which is resolve in his debut episode The Royal Blacksmiths, letting the two of them have a good relationship, and little is know about Jay birth parent to conclude why they abandoned him, do it was being unwise to try to say that are the extremely horrible people if we don’t have context.

Although we can only really compare Ray and Maya in a broad sense. Technically Ray and Maya did abandon their kids, but they were also coerced and kidnapped into doing so by Krux to make his armor and weapons. Although, because of, I guess, a step in the right direction for the writing of this show. Ray and Maya's abandonment of their children is addressed in the new season of the series where Nya is upset about Maya trying to be motherly towards her. Nya is under the belief that Maya has no right to act this way given the fact that she was not there for Nya's childhood to be the mother that she wants to be now.

The writing fails Misako here, Lloyd is upset about seeing his mother for at most 5 fucking minutes and then treats her as if she is the best parent he ever fucking had. Adding the fact that it seems like She wants to be with at least one of the sons of God and can’t make up her damn mind.

I could understand if Lloyd wanted at least one good relationship with a parent, give the circumstances at the time, but this is never said or addressed, and I understand the meaning of hindsight and Misako telling Wu that she should have chosen him over Garmadon was her having hindsight after the fact. As well as think that if she chooses Wu the events of the series would not have happened, allowing her to raise a son instead of abandoning him. Although where that may fit in the context of that one line, don't think it justifies all of the implied love that both characters share, at that point, it isn't hindsight.

It really is that Misako’s whole is to cause conflict (a complaint made by @hiddensneker ) and to give exposition and despite this and whatever she has tried to do to make up for her actions this doesn’t change the fact that Misako Montgomery Garmadon is one of the most hated characters in Ninjago.

PG-13 NINJAGO REWRITE/UNIVERSE ALTERATIONS!

This is basically if the show was meant for a more teenaged and mature audience. I don't know how long this will be, but I'll just start with the characters first, because I can

Because he's my favorite, and I love him, Zane's first: Instead of being a robot, how about something more tragic? DECADES remotely close to the series beginning, Zane was in a very nice family. An adopted, blended family, but a nice family nonetheless. So, what happened? A storm? A fire? A natural disaster? Worse. A war. A raid made by the opposing side, more specifically. Zane protected his siblings and villagers from attackers, but was grabbed and lined up for execution. When they grabbed and injured an elderly man, Zane attacked the officer and punched him. A lot. Another officer muzzle bumped him off and beat him to death in front of his family. The ally side arrive and save everyone. Too bad they're too late to save Zane. All, but one. A scientist who's been reformed and is skilled in mechanics and artificial organs; synthetics. He's also lost his own son. He deserts into the woods with Zane and gets to work, replacing Zane's skin with a stretchy material close to what you find in the legs of old barbie dolls, where the legs and heads were soft, his hair with- well, wig hair, his bones and joints with metal and clock work, his normal eyes with porcelain doll eyes, and his heart with a core that keeps him running and alive. Think Tony Stark's arc reactor, but if it's removed, Zane has 15 minutes to put it back or else he'll die and stay dead. It took FOREVER, but Zane eventually awoke up. The doctor, fuck it, was so relieved and helped Zane sit up and get used to being alive again-and half metal, but let's focus on his motor skills first. He lived with this doctor for a VERY, VERY long time. For context, if we were to set this in 2021, Zane would have died in around 1923 and been brought back in 1944 and saw the doctor that worked on him die in 2010. He's OLD. Back on track, Zane learned all he does, reading, talking, cooking, and whatnot, until the master of ice pays a visit and spends the day with Zane, asking him who he is, how old he is, and how long he's been with the doctor. After his visit, and Wu's, the doctor starts to see Zane slowly realize what's happened to him, but also question where his family is. Turns out the war wasn't easily won because the doctor shows Zane a family in a graveyard, near where they live. HIS FAMILY. And his name is there too. After this, Zane is traumatized, refusing to eat, drink, sleep, and talk, even ignoring his companion in the form of the Falcon. When the doctor sees Zane shaking sporadically, and sees him drooling a lot, he realizes the toll this is all taking on his son, who breaks down emotionally and mentally in his arms.

"F-father?"

"Yes? What is it, Zane?"

"I'm supposed to be dead, right? The tombstone in the graveyard, I should be under it, right?"

Cue silence from the doctor.

"Do you love me?"

"More than life itself."

"And... you would do anything for me?"

"Anything. Why?"

"I want to die. I want you to destroy me!"

The doctor gasps and hugs Zane close.

"I can't! You're my son, Zane! I can't lose you!"

"Am I your son, or your prized possession built from scrap parts and a corpse?"

"Zane-"

"I had a sister!" Zane snaps. "A mother! A father! And three brothers and a cousin and an uncle! I died protecting them and here I am while they rest beneath the ground!"

"You're my son, Zane!" The doctor holds Zane's shoulders to steady him. "You're my son, and I do love you. You're all that I have now, son."

Zane, broken and miserable, apologizes to his father as he drives a screwdriver into his own head, forcing his father to catch him as he falls down.

When Zane comes to, he's resting in his bed and feels worse than ever, as in he's sad and guilty for going off on his father the way he did.

The doctor apologizes for not telling him sooner, admitting that Zane's recovery took so long that resurrecting his whole family would be impossible, even if he'd taught Zane how to do it, no one in his family had the same blood type and some were even allergic to the medicine used to keep Zane's body fresh.

When Zane feels a poke in his head and notices his foot twitches at random, he gets curious. "What are you working on now?"

"You've been having seizures recently. I want to make sure the small cables and wires in your brain are all set correctly, so I know none of them are causing it."

"I see."

"Can you say your name?"

"Zane."

"Can you spell it?"

Cue some focused humming as Zane struggles a little bit. "Z... A...I-"

"Wrong. Try again."

"Z... A..." Long pause. "N... E."

"Good."

"Can... Can you change things from your position? Effect my movements and mind?"

"I can try."

"Can you make me forget?"

The doctor tells Zane it would be better if he remembered his family, but Zane weeps as he admits he'll tey to destroy himself again, if he remembers his family; it's not just grief, it's also a huge amount of guilt over the fact that he's alive while his family is dead.

The doctor agrees and hides his memories of his family.

He also rigs the same wiring to his heart rate monitor; when he dies, Zane will leave and forget him, and the fact that he is supposed to be dead. He'll forget just about everything, except for his name, how to read, breathe, eat, and take care of himself.

AND THAT HAPPENS.

Zane wanders through the woods, mute and silent until some villagers take him in and give him shelter. It takes a village to raise a child, so the village pitches in. Some children try getting him to play with them, but he only stands and stares, even when a little girl tells him she thinks he's cute.

Wu finds him again, and takes him to the monastery, where Jay and Cole are.

They do not like Zane. He stands, he stares, and he barely pays attention to what they have to say, though he does stare at Wu a lot.

They also think he's creepy because, well... remember that one stance Arthur does in the movie Joker, where he stands holding himself between the door frames and looks really creepy? Zane does that. A lot. In the morning when they wake him up and at night when they're about to go to sleep.

They sort of got what was wrong when he had a seizure while cooking; Cole was talking and explaining why he and Jay were keeping their diatance from him, and then heard Zane fall and the pot OF BOILING SOUP tumble on top of him. He shouted for Wu amd Jay and held Zane until the seizure stopped and Zane just stared at him tiredly and almost like he was about to cry.

"Are you... okay, Zane?"

"... Co... Cole?"

"Yeah? What is it?"

"... I'm sorry. Dinner is... going to have to wait." Zane tries to stand, but Jay holds his shoulder.

"Dude, are you sure? We can just order takeout for the night, if you're not up for cooking."

"I'm... I'm fine... J... J..."

Jay holds Zane in front of him by the shoulders. "I'm Jay. Remember?" Zane repeats Jay's name and Jay and Cole help him to sit down at the table.

"Perhaps you should rest for the evening and allow one of your brothers to prepare dinner tonight?" Wu highly recommends as he holds a hand on Zane's shoulder, in case he has another seizure.

Zane reluctantly agrees and Jay and Cole order a pizza; Zane offered to pay, but they told him to sit the hell down.

Upon meetung Kai, Zane is back at square one, except he has Cole and Jay to keep him in check and to help Kai gor when he gets weirded out.

They all get scared when they hear and see Zane banging his head against the wall, like bending his back and head back and curling into the wall as hard as he can and when he had a really bad seizure while sleeping, but don't bring it up because he stares off into space and stops cooking.

YOU CAN ONLY IMAGINE HOW THEY REACTED WHEN THEY ALL GOIND OIT ZANE HAS BEEN DEAD ALL THIS TIME!!!!!!!

Personality wise, Zane is still smart, funny on accident, and very brave with a sixth sense, he's just the most "ninja" out of all the ninja because he's surprisingly light on his feet and quiet as a shadow. When he meets someone new, he doesn't talk. At all. It's a trust thing, so he'll whisper to anyone he does trust to talk back to the new person.

Still the ice ninja, but Kai made the mistake of interrupting a staring contest between Zane and his mirror reflection by tapping on his shoulder.

Zane spun around to face him with terrifying speed, but Kai backed up and held his hands up.

"Sorry, Zane. I just... You're... really cold."

Zane checked his outfit, which was long sleeved.

"I don't know, maybe... take a bath to warm up? Eat a little more? Get sime sunshine?"

Their one sided conversation ended with Zane staring at him before patting Kai on the head, and trying to make his spiky ass hair stay down, and returning to the mirror.

I should note:

ZANE AND MIRRORS DO NOT MIX.

He hates them. They freak him out. It has nothing to do with memories, he just gets scares that there's another him in another bathroom in another monastery in another Ninjago in another world, where it's all the same, but backwards. Sort of doesn't get that all reflective surfaces like ceramic plates, cutlery, and anyhting else of the sort are just reflecting light.

He doesn't get movies or video games, either. The other three tried teaching him, but he quickly became the player they had to look out for, because he'd get lost exploring the game's map rather than actually playing, which he found boring. Usually he'll just sit back and watch them play, ever the passive observer.

His seizures are due to immense stress and his memories trying to come back, but the little feat of tinkering his father did keeps fighting back, so whenever he's cooking and reminded of the doctor that saves him, he has a seizure.

He can take a lot of damage, but he's not good with getting electrocuted; if he's hit, he's down and useless for fifteen minutes, at least. Remember that cinstricti that almost killed him and Cole? Zane was more annoyed at the snake and concerned for Cole's safety rather than his. AND THE SNAKE DIDN'T FEEL ZANE'S RIBS. AT ALL.

The area around the core that keeps Zane alive is made if a similar material as those squishy slime balls that you sqeeze and the slime spews out of the little holes in the net, but a little more durable. Now that I think about it, it's made of a sort of ooblek substance, but it's a different matieral than cornstarche added. I don't know what, but it's made to keep the core, and Zane, from getting hurt.

Zane actually hides from Nya during her first few months of joining the team. Again, nothing to do with memory, he just got freaked out because she got kidnapped by the skeleton army. She keeps her distance, too, giving him glances and smiles while he stares at her, and Jay even switched seats with Nya to try and help Zane warm up to her, as in he'd sit next to her. He did so and got Nya to talk about something that had been eating her up inside, leading to her hugging him and crying in his shoulder. Kai and Jay were extremely close to yelling at him until Nya pulled away and thanked Zane, because she needed to cry.

When they go off on him for what happened to the monastery, Zane has a mini seizure until he sees the falcon and leaves just as the seizure starts.

Cole and Jay know what to do with these seizures, but when Kai first saw Zane having one, he held Zane and shouted for help until Zane put a hand over Kai's mouth and rubbed his eyes with the other; "I hate when that happens."

For any TLDR people: Zane's basically a reanimated corpse running on robot energy who doesn't remember his past because he asked to not remember. He can talk, he just doesn't much because it's a trust thing. Cooking is his therapeutic thing, he sleeps fine, but he has a hard time going to sleep. Still has his sixth sense and ice powers, he's just more mute and out of tune with the others; guy killed in 1923 is in 2021. Great asset to the team, even though he's the guy they keep an eye on so he doesn't get to badly hurt.

I'll write more about the other ninja, this is just to show how mature this universe alteration is going to be

((Had a ninjago fan season idea that takes place after s13 and semi centers around Kai ninjago. This seasons theme: Vacation gone wrong! I have segmented it into episodes for convenience. I uh, may or may not dedicate some time to drawing content for this thing, so I apologize in advance. ((also it is. a long post.

Episode 1 - Answering machine going off and its’ Ronins voice over the machine: 'Looks like I’m gonna run late.. ugh this whole thing is falling apart isn't it. But we'll make it work. I got you a ferry to take you there, one of the cruise ships. It was the least I could do for now... I'll meet you there, I promise.'     >Cuts to Dareth on the boat, taking him and the rest of the people to ‘Aves Isle’.    >While everyone is getting off, Dareth helps a naga lady with carrying some of her stuff because Dareth ninjago.    >Naga ladys' name is 'Olive', she is a semi native. She starts talking about the islands' history. 'there used to be a temple but we don't know what happened to it, but it sunk into the ground.    >two investigate the area because Dareth has time to wait on Ronin.    >Upon finding whats’ left of the area and entering, the atmosphere changes and inflicts a weird curse or whatever.    >Dareth starts getting progressively more pushy Episode 2 - After s13 Wu wants to do more adventures so the bounty is just flying wherever the wind takes it I guess w/e {{Also realized I didn’t write much for Wu this entire rest of the story so I am assuming he’s having a grand ol’ time being on vacation}}    >wow it is night time, the bounty is flying in    >The crew ask where they are and Zane starts to go on his normal informative spiel before getting cut off.    >Oh there’s a thing on the radar. What the heck is that thing flying towards us OH GOD THAT’S A BIG ANGRY DRAGON    >Bounty has two smaller 'runner' boats? I guess? marketing. Two of the ninja hop on those and fly off.    >Zane and Jay distract the dragon so the bounty can safely land but it turns out there are two dragons and Jay gets taken down first. Yay soft landing.    >Bounty makes it safely over the fences that are on the island    >Zane gets taken out.    >Cuts back to Dareth and Olive still rooting around. activates something and wow a lava fountain. the ground is glowing in weird markings!    >Dareth snaps at Olive and she wells up and runs away and Dareth snaps out of it temporarily like 'oh crud why did I do that I didn't mean to be so bossy' and goes after her    >Olive gets overtaken and now: pointy.    >Dareth tries to stop her but she jumps into the portal lava whatever? hole?? not sure.    >He, of course, jumps in after.    >Fire Dareth.    >Random golden-looking platform chained to the bottom of the hole they are in. ominous voice: hey how about you get these locks free and we'll rebuild the temple? nice.    >Temple platform rises    >Zane gets tossed into an area? park? fenced in something or another??    >oh hi Jay    >oh community service sorting trash from recyclables? can do.

Episode 3 - The remaining ninja visit the two who are in 'time out' before deciding to have a look around the island.    >They take a nice walk down the beach Cole reminisces about the time Kai was extremely afraid of water    >Kai frowns as a laugh track is played. Claims he has gotten better at it but screams when Nya splashes him.    >Zane and Jay are done with service and its like 'okay how about we try to get out again?’    >Zane suggests doing it in the broad daylight since the dragons went out at night and may be nocturnal    >they try    >they get taken out again    >another round of community service    >sees another aircraft fall out of the sky    >guard: wow more property damage.    >sundown. lloyd notices that something strange is happening with some of the residents randomly getting more nippy and then not. strange. (Ninja get into an arguments with the locals or whatever)    >Stop by community service area    >Jay is now frustrated    >rest recuperate at where they parked the bounty    >Nya: well nothing is really going on here we can probably leave once the two are done breaking the law     >Ronin shows up to the area and is greeted sourly by Jay ninjago

Episode 4 - The ninja are ready to leave when they notice a weird ominous structure that wasn't there before.    >Crew investigate    >oh its hot. you can go in, Kai ninjago    >kai enters    >oh frick fire dareth    >kai ninjago, walking out and is krispy: there is a problem.    >three get out of service    >ronin asks if the little runner ships are 'truly' important    >hekcin steals their engine or whatever    >regroup at the bouty    >Kai: hey uhh, Dareth is peeved haha, I don't get it though he and I hang out every now and then.    >Ronin, internally: oh god he's really mad I didn't follow plans to a T-    >the ninja exchange awkward glances of guilt    >decide it'd be best to talk to him tomorrow, or try to. Also, more people are randomly getting upsetti, Jay is still frustrated.

Episode 5 - jay still has a bad attitude. lloyd is also starting to get upset. Cole tries to diffuse the situation but it causes the two to point their noses up at each other in silent anger. great.    >Kai enters in the temple again, which is even more built than it was before.   >Dareth being snarky   >kai apologizes and tells him he wasn't aware of it, and that he thought the two were good friends, reminding him of the times they hung out outside of mission things.   >Dareth calms down a bit   >finds a reason to be mad again.   >Ronin shows up   >'ronin?'   >''Told you I'd meet you here, what didn't you believe me? not really much of a vacation. How about we get some fresh air?"   >Dareth approaches   >oh no he's really hot.   >cheek caress with the robotic arm. gae.   >two head out. episode 7 - Kai ninjago somehow is the one keeping the most level head out of everyone here and things get tense again. is it potentially out of character? Well he's mad that lloyd and jay are overtaken but he's doing a good job at self control.   >cuts to lloyd and Jay   >lloyd: this is dumb! why are we helping!? We're supposed to be stopping this!   >Jay: we're helping because YOU dragged us into this with your plan!   >argue. great   >bad guy laughing or whatever, oh the voice has a physical form that's manifesting from the heat of the temple. episode 9 - after the 5th attempt it's much more palatable so they make a larger batch and stick it in a boat all fancied up and now have to deliver it   >oh god angry people   >why are they looking at us hhh   >fite   >Kai: we legit cannot let any of this spill otherwise I'm going to scream.   >only way to get it away from the people is to go by ocean   >Ronin: we'll do what we can but you gotta do this kai. You're tough.   >kai: ahaha I still don't like water but!   >boat on water   >gets to the part outside of the gate   >oddly silent.   >kai proceeds to put it on the beach and starts calling out for the dragons and starts making noise or whatever. I don’t really make ocs unless it’s plot specific but here are a few I have because it’s oc day I guess (this got so long I’m sorry)

Side Characters

Brody Grey and the Oppenheimer gang

Description: mid 20s, tip-dyed black hair (color is subject to change but he likes red), likes to wear tie-dye and anything from the 80s, average adult male height, Gay

Personality: overdramatic but with a rational head, energetic and likes to tease, gives good advice and father figure I guess?, love of reading and writing, can be flirty and cocky at times

Backstory: Was disowned by his parents when he came out and has had to make it on his own, Theater major at the Oppenheimer and successful too, was Cole’s roomate (they didn’t get along at first)

Plot Purpose: Cole-centric backstory exploration, Brody and co. reveal a lot about Cole’s past to the other ninja (more about the emo depressed grieving version in the pilots) and helps him come to terms with it, Also tell them you’re gay Cole, yeesh. The other friends are important to expanding the other ninja like Alex (non-binary, quiet, goth, Violinist) helps Jay deal with that he’s trans and coming out of the closet, Persila (bi, short blond, actor, excitable conspericy theorist and fandom queen) Probably figures out Jay is Cliff Gordon’s son, Melissa (lesbian, singer, Mom, sweet thing but easy to anger and holds a grudge) Was the first one Cole latched onto in the group because she reminded him so much of his mom [there are other things too with Nya and Kai and Zane but I don’t feel like elaborating more now], ANYWAY Jay takes Cole to see a musical and recognizes Brody (who he hasn’t been in contact with since he left) and they talk after the show leading down the road of all Cole’s old college friends meeting the ninja

Random Facts: He’s dating Vinnie and NO ONE CAN STOP ME, he’s sorta supposed to be Cole’s foil (where Cole is blasting My Chemical Romance and AC/DC he’s blasting Boogie Box High and SOS Band), he’s a mash of all the other ninjas personality’s not gonna lie

Tony Tabloid

Description: 12-14ish, shorter side but gets a major growth spurt when older, short black/brown hair, missing tooth, classic news boy hat that’s to big for him

Personality: Bright young boy with plenty of street smarts, will talk your ear off, full of himself and would fight anyone or anything no matter their size, very energetic but with a cool attitude

Backstory: Orphan at Walker’s Home (Jay’s rich and built an orphanage cause he’s nice like that) in Ninjago city, was on the street since young age, ex-thief, turned around at Walker’s though and now is head of the Ninjago city newspaper delivery (probably knows Nelson)

Plot Purpose: All the ninja seem to have a child that gives them advice at one point or another so here’s Jay’s, Jay has the rights to the Star Fairer enterprise (unknown to the other ninja) and when Lloyd mentions they should make new movies but can’t he goes about making it happen, he makes it all seem like he’s uninvolved but somehow gets them vip passes to see the movie in action (he says it’s from his ex-acting career connections), Tony is playing the younger version of Fritz’s son (our main character) in flashbacks, Jay is the one who got him his “gig”, he ends up revealing a lot of stuff Jay would rather keep hidden and probably almost dies doing something stupid and Jay has to save him

Random facts: Tabloid obviously isn’t his real last name (not sure wheather he chose it himself or people just started calling him that) it’s obviously related to his work, speaking of work he wants to become a journalist or reporter when he grows up, Jay gave him one of his smile buttons and he put it on his hat, I like to think in the future he gets adopted by Brody and Vinnie

Fievel Schmidt

Jay’s old friend, knew him before he transitioned, I mostly only use him in movie!verse BUT..., in show his mother is a mecahnic who buys parts from Ed and Edna, boyfriend ran off so she’s a single mom, the walkers always take a weekly trip into ninjago city to trade and sell so she’s a regular, Edna takes Jay and Fieval to the arcade and does grocery shopping, unfortunately his mom got seriously injured and can’t do mechanics anymore so they lose touch, plump and short, very sweet boy

Next Master of Sound

I feel like everyone forgot Jacob died in season 4 so here’s a reminder, he never had any children so it went to a random kid, little girl, Long black hair, she accidentally killed her parents when she caused their house in her small village to collapse from crying and activating her powers, selectively mute from fear of her own voice, Cole adopts her, becomes a next gen ninja I guess?, the only time she uses her power is when she sings (which Cole taught her to do)

*Witch doctor, Percy

Male, Lives in the Departed Realm, takes care of it sorta?, knows good magic, hangs out with whisps, helps the ninja (usually Cole) get home by telling them about a portal

Grocery market clerk from ignacia, payed off hospital bills for Kai (14) after Nya (10) had an allergic reaction to perfume, Kai had work for him moving veggies and such for several months (got to keep some food though)

Venomari lesbian who lives in the woods with her wife and 3 adopted kids (one is human), she (her kids) rescue one the ninja and bring them home to heal up so they can go save the others

Scientist obsessed with trying to understand magic and elemental powers, thinks she can figure out how to channel elemental power like the First Spinjitzu Master did, very confident, only concerned with progress and no concern for individual life, ends up capturing Jay and experimenting on him :(

Referenced in the Amulet of Ali which channels pure evil/dark magic, was the first sorcerer ever and basically made magic, was banished to the realm of madness and gained power there bringing back his learnings to ninjago, he wrote the book of spells which clouse and and garmadon studied under Chen (which is how garm knew the realm would give him power), Probably killed by Libber (previous EM of lightning) who sacrificed herself to stop him [but did she really kill him?!], Clouse gets the amulet from Borg Tower which boosts his power and now him and Jay have to duke it out like their previous versions did

Someone had to make Mr. E, I wonder who?, Jay took Echo back to Cliff’s flat to live after skybound and fixed him up, he might of done a few to many upgrades though and someone saw this as an opportunity, he was attacked while Jay was away and barely got away hiding in the secret room, unfortunately Jays blueprints were stolen (unknown to him) and the rest destroyed, Jay took Echo to the his parents but after seeing Mr. E he’s worried, now someone is throwing out new nindroids based on his designs and they are still searching for Echo, this mystery person plans to build an even stronger nindroid army to sell, prove they are a worthy inventor, and maybe take down the ninja along the way [do partially sentient multicolored nindroids based on the ninja count as ocs?]

A Ninjago FanFic that I wrote for my English class

This is an 800-word story that I had to write for my year 11 English class, I find it easier to write a story in class when I know the characters so that’s why I do this. Enjoy. - Opposite Shipping (Kai x Zane) - Bruiseshipping (Jay x Cole) - Samurai Shipping(Nya x Pixel)

My name is Zane, I’m an android from the planet Xeon, where machines are alive and are even born. Once our planet was discovered, we were treated like slaves and put to work. My owners, a word we hate to use, are a lovely married couple that got me for their wedding gift. Jay and Cole Brookstone quickly realised that I wasn’t just a machine and did some digging.

They found out that I had my own planet, a home, but no family. They treated me like a brother, as a friend. They started a petition to set my race free, they got almost nothing, people depended on us like we were their hearts. We did everything. To remove us would be to remove an important cog from the machine.

During this time, I met their long-time friend, Kai, an orphan that didn’t have parents, but a little sister named Nya. The two of them were two sides of the same coin. They were both tough on the outside but kind on the inside. Cole and Jay were still fighting the losing war, every day they went to their jobs and tried to spread the word, it did no good.

I was attacked the other day, on my way home from the store. A group of boys with baseball bats and face covers that came up to me and started beating me. I’m not too sure what happened after that, I believe that I suffered a concussion, for my memory wasn’t working for a short time after. When I rebooted, I was back at the Brookstone house, in my room. When I came out I found that Kai was there, saying that he brought me home and fixed me up.

Today Jay introduced me to his boss’s son Lloyd, he was a very influential man. With him, an unexpected turn happened. My species fought back, from the second we are born, we are taken and told that we are nothing and can only follow. The realisation that this wasn’t the case, that we were living beings that could die, brought many people into our cause.

A majority of their machines were abandoned and their world switched off. There was no-one to do the dangerous jobs and no-one to do the dirty work. The world couldn’t function without us, even though they did before. They had been relying on us for so long that they couldn’t function without us.

We revolted. Humans and Androids together, we walked through the streets yelling mantras of peace and more and more humans came to our aid. We were met with violence at first, people who didn’t agree fought back, hard. Kai and Nya were always near to protect me, always one step ahead and one step behind.

The more and more people saw that we weren’t just emotionless machines, the less control the government had. All across the world, humans were doing what humans did best, they were fighting for what they believed in, and it worked. We were given full rights and had to be treated like humans were.

People were ecstatic with the results. Yes, their world was dark. Yes, it would take time to fix. Yes, it will affect the course of their world. Yes, this will change their views. Yes, humans no know that there are other beings out there, and yes, humans will be going to discover new races.

Not even ten years later humans have spread out across the galaxy. Cementing themselves as major species in the galaxy. My life these days is simple. I spend most of my time in space, I decided to stay and help Cole and Jay as they were my family, they were all I knew.

Our ship was called the ‘The bounty’, Nya’s idea. They still worked for their old company but now did deliveries and pick-ups across the galaxy. Kai and Nya and still with us. Kai spends most of his time around me, helping me and keeping me company. My friend Pixel travels with us as well, Nya brought her home one day, her new girlfriend. Lloyd will sometimes join us for a few weeks when he has free time.

Their world isn’t perfect but we rebuilt it. Humans alongside androids, we rebuilt the world from the ground up. We turned their world from a perfect place to a warzone, right back to perfect, but even more so than before.

I’m not sure what the future will hold for us, all I know is that I’m where I’m supposed to be, and no matter what happens, I will always have my family by my side and no-one can ever tear us apart.

Wu was depressed about how he and Morro ended off. He got to see his beloved student again and figure out what happened to him. Even so, the way he left that second time wasn’t any more easing. He still failed him, even when given another chance. Morro’s final words would ring in his ears.

You can only save those who want to be saved.

But then Morro returned on the Day of the Departed. It changed many things. Wu wasn’t sure why he chose to aid them. Nor was he sure what shifted in his stubborn pupil’s mind. Either way, it made Wu happy. It was good to see Cole return. It was also good to see Morro...at peace. Morro had always been high-strung and insatiable. Watching the way he faced the ninjas, Wu noticed something. There was an air of acceptance and subtle confidence in his former student’s demeanor. Not feigned, but genuine confidence. Acknowledging that they had a right to be angry with him, but also standing in his current self as opposed to his previous.

It was for these reasons that Wu wished to try summoning him once again. He knew it would be a lot to ask of his team. He also knew they would want Morro as an asset once they got beyond their inhibitions. His powers were already incredible in strength. What would happen if he were allowed to unlock the full extent of those powers? It’s like he always said to them:

The best way to defeat your enemy is by making them your friend.

This rang true for Lloyd, and he’s grown exponentially since. Wu thought he would possibly be the most understanding because of this concept. Given Lloyd’s history with Morro, Wu also feared he might be the hardest to sway. In the end, though, everybody came to an agreement.

When Morro returned, he was not the type of person the others expected. He was much more quiet. They did not know he read so much, either. Probably a habit that carried over from his studies. He trained with them, but still didn’t say much aside from typical jabs about formation and the like. There were a lot of little details he’d pointed out as they sparred that had never been picked up on. It was helpful.

It took some time for the gears to fully set into motion. While the others did not implicitly mind him during training, actually bonding outside of that proved difficult. They were apprehensive, and he gave them their space. Nobody was eager to make the first move.

Except for Jay, apparently. It did not surprise Morro, but he was still curious nonetheless. He actually found the lightning master’s awkward attempts and gestures flattering. He could tell Jay was sincere and very true to his nature. It was appreciated. He did not even notice they had become friends until he caught himself snorting at a ridiculous joke Jay cracked.

Once Jay opened up, Zane was pretty quick to follow. Morro figured Zane was not the type to maintain grudges. It was probably out of solidarity until the others were ready. It felt nice to have debates over topics most would find boring. Aside from that, they practiced creating some wicked blizzards. Zane lacked the sort of judgemental behaviors humans displayed. He didn’t feel like Zane was waiting for him to mess up again.

Nya and Morro had a strange situation. On one hand, he was terrified of her powers. On the other, he thought she was a genius. Not in the traditional sense, but there was something special within her. She decided she was done being petty one day and decided it’d be easier to get to know him than sit around tolerating him. So they talked. For hours. Kai was pissed.

He and Lloyd had been more gradual. They came across each other one night. Morro was watching the stars. After all, he never slept. Lloyd didn’t seem to sleep much, either. The two would simply watch together. Then it became tradition. They had already known plenty about one another. They’d shared thoughts within Lloyd’s body the entirety of the time Morro possessed him. There was not much else to say between them. But Lloyd was fond of having somewhere to go those restless nights. Somewhere without expectation awaiting.

Cole did surprise Morro. He hadn’t expected such a lax and inviting person to be so cold. But when Morro did ask him, it became clear. Obviously, what he put Lloyd through was not acceptable. Despite this, he knew there had to be another layer. He was right. He’d almost forgotten their entire situation put Cole through the experience of becoming a ghost. Something Cole was extremely lucky to have recovered from. Recalling this left Morro feeling off and unbearably guilty. But they unpacked what happened to Cole. Cole knew that Morro would understand how emptying it felt. How couldn’t he?

Kai? Kai was a tough nut to crack. Morro could tell that Kai valued Lloyd greatly as a person. It wrecked him to see his little brother put through so much. Morro just wished to show Kai that he understood Lloyd’s worth, too. Even if it took some time. But they would be okay. Through a complete accident during sparring, they discovered how much Morro’s power amplified Kai’s. Once that happened, it was kind of hard to avoid one another. It was an itch they both couldn’t resist scratching.

The way Morro came into his power was not entirely different from how Kai got his. One day, yet another person decided to get some bright ideas about Ninjago. So, naturally, the ninjas had to intervene. Only they were about to get to Lloyd after he was already down from some pretty bad blows. Everyone else was either too far away or incapacitated. Morro wasn’t sure what he could possibly do. He’d never felt so helpless. So weak. But he willed himself to do something. Anything.

“Lloyd!” he screamed. A sudden rush coursed through him. Almost instinctively, hurricane levels of wind ripped at the villain in question until they were knocked back a safe distance.

“Even think about laying another finger on him, and I will smite you. You will experience horrors unlike any you’ve ever known” Morro spoke, voice taking on a darker edge. The wind ceased completely. He panted. He looked to Lloyd and then noticed his own figure had faded significantly from the use of energy.

“Oh no. No. No. Lloyd needs help. Somebody. Please. Not now.”

He was barely able to get to Cole in time, calling out his name before almost completely fading. Cole awoke with a start, certain he’d heard Morro but confused because he was nowhere to be found. He then saw Lloyd and immediately rushed over.

It had been a day since the battle. Morro shut himself into a closet and refused to speak to anybody, though his form eventually returned to normal. He heard someone familiar outside the door. After some prodding, he opened it. He remained silent.

“What is troubling you?” Wu asked.

“You wouldn’t understand” Morro mumbled. Wu shook his head and placed a hand on his shoulder. “I...I threatened that person. And it sounded so much like...and Lloyd was…and I thought things were finally getting better but now they’re gonna ha-” he began.

“Do not finish that sentence. They do not hate you. All my nephew has talked about since our return is how concerned he is and how you saved him. They are all worried. We sometimes say things when we get into a panic, but there is no confusion as to the cause you were fighting for” Wu reassured him. Morro looked away.

“And Morro?” Wu asked as an afterthought. The other could not meet his eyes.

“What?”

“I am proud of you.”

At those words, Morro’s head whipped around and his eyes widened. His hand covered his mouth, and he wasn’t sure how to respond. Wu lowered Morro’s hand and nodded before he left.

It was in that moment the full realization of what they went through hit him. Lloyd had never made things about himself. Lloyd never thought of himself as more significant than any of the others because of a title or color. In fact, he relied a lot on the others. It was not Lloyd’s destiny. It was their destiny. All of them. Together.

I loved that when Kai feels useless because he doesn’t have powers, Lloyd immediately sympathizes because he’s been through the same thing.

He’s so hesitant to leave Kai behind! He even stops on the car and looks back, one more time.

This is kind of a vent story, but it’s still a story that I thought I’d share. I got bored, and didn’t feel like using my characters, so I used Morro and Zane. It felt fitting considering Morro’s abandonment issues. Thank you for your time. I hope you enjoy. 

Morro was pacing about in his room, his abilities to create wind had been acting up the last few days. He knew why, he just didn’t care enough to talk to people about it. He couldn’t trust them; he couldn’t trust anybody. What was different now from back then?

              What changed? Nothing changed, Wu was still the bastard he always would be. Lloyd was scared of him. Kai was an asshole. Jay was scared of him too, and Cole didn’t know how to feel. Then there was Zane. Zane was sweet, always. He was loving and kind and was the best boyfriend a man could ask for, but there was something about that. Morro was needy, and needed constant affection. Zane hadn’t the time for him lately, hadn’t the time for his neediness.

              Morro yearned to tell Zane that he needed more attention, but he was too scared. He didn’t want Zane to think he was too needy and get rid of him. Not like Wu had done. Not like his family had done. It wasn’t like he was an important person. He was just some villain turned good by the love of a cute android. He hated the way he was. He hated how needy he was.

It wasn’t like it was something that he could control very well. No, he was very needy due to being abandoned so much. He had abandonment issues up the ass. Though he did like taking things there, that wasn’t what he wanted there. He was currently pacing about his room, chewing on his nails as he thought over the issue he was having.

There was a tight feeling in his chest, a feeling of longing. He missed when Zane gave him a lot of attention, but unlike him, Zane was a public figure. Zane was a busy man. He had to go to things. But Morro worried, what if Zane was cheating on him? What if he wasn’t good enough? He constantly worried about Zane telling him that he loved him… but he didn’t want him anymore. That he would get rid of him too. What reason did Zane have to keep him after all? Was it pity? Was it actual love? Morro didn’t know. Morro was scared though. So very scared.

Morro continued to pace about his room in the monastery. His foot fall was the only thing that could be heard. He was starting to tear up. Zane was supposed to be back by now. What if he really was cheating? Morro remembered that Zane also really liked Pixal once upon a time. Maybe they were getting back together behind his back.

He pulled on his hair and let out a frustrated screech. He was glad no one else was around to hear him. Everyone else had gone out, not a soul decided to tell him about it though. He was so wound up; he was about ready to explode.

“Morro?” Zane’s smooth voice made him feel sick.

“Yeah?” Morro turned to face the blushing android.

“Are you alright? I heard you scream.”

“When did you get back?”

“A few minutes ago, did you not notice?”

There Zane was, making him feel dumb for noticing something. He snorted, he felt irritation rising in his stomach. Anger was a secondary emotion, not that Morro knew this, and in the end, Morro felt hurt. He was angry and upset because he was scared. So scared that Zane would leave him that he was even questioning his feelings for the nindroid.

Did he love Zane? He wondered sometimes. He didn’t know anymore. He thought he did, but emotions were hard, especially love. What did love even feel like? Was it that high that he originally felt around Zane? That feeling had faded a while ago.

Morro looked away, before he continued to pace about.

“Is something on your mind, Morro? Are you alright? Do you have a fever?” Zane’s eyebrows knit together.

“No, it’s fine. I’m fine.” Morro replied. In the end, he figured this was his fault. His fault for being the way he was, his fault for always messing things up. That’s why everyone left. He always screwed up. It made him yearn for someone who would stay, but he knew better. No one would ever stay. They would say they would but they wouldn’t.

“That is not true, why are you lying?” Zane bit his lip, he glanced to the door before turning his attention back to Morro.

Morro was beginning to shake now. He didn’t want to hurt Zane’s feelings but this was tearing him apart inside. He figured it didn’t matter. Wu should have let him drown. Wu should have never picked him up off the street. He was a fuck up, a screw up that only made mistakes. Hell, his own death was a mistake. He simply miscalculated something, and that was the cause of his untimely demise.

“It’s nothing, Zane, just leave me alone.” Morro grumbled.

“I cannot assist if you continue to push me away.” Zane sighed.

“I’m not pushing you away! I just-just need some time to think!” Morro snapped.

“Oh.” Zane reeled back a bit.

There it was, Zane was still scared of him to some degree. Or maybe he was just worried about pushing Morro over edge.

“Please… When you are ready, tell me what’s wrong.” Zane turned and began walking to the door.

Morro fidgeted in spot for a minute or two, “Fine! You want to know what’s wrong?! I don’t trust you!” He hissed.

Zane froze up, turning back to Morro, his eyes wide.

“I don’t trust you.” The tears that had been welling in Morro’s eyes spilled over. “I can’t trust you. You’re just going to abandon me again! Hell, you’ve even started showing signs that you’ll do it! You’re just like everyone else! I thought things would be different!”

“Morro-” Zane began.

“No!” Morro snarled. “No! You shut up and listen!”

“Morro, I’ve-”

“I can’t ever trust you.” Morro was beginning to pace back and forth. There was a pit in the bottom of his stomach as his chest felt like it was being constricted. “You’re just going to leave me like everyone does! Everyone always leaves! So just go already! You’ve got Pixal! You don’t need me!”

“Morro-”

“You’ve been doing the same things everyone else who’s ever gotten rid of me is doing! You keep making excuses as to why, but I know why! You’re cheating on me! Or you just don’t love me anymore! Just go ahead, say it already!” Morro was starting to shout.

“Morro, I love y-”

“No. No, you don’t. You’re just a liar. Like everyone else. You pity me. You’re only hear because you feel like if you weren’t, I’d kill myself. What reason do I have to live anyways? I’m just some villain, a bad guy! Someone who people don’t want around their kids.” He was spiraling out of control and his powers were beginning to react to the emotional turmoil inside of him.

“Please calm down.” Zane tried to approach but the wind knocked him back and over.

“Shut up!” Morro screamed, his eyes starting to glow a bit. “You’ve just been holding me back.”

The look in Zane’s eyes made Morro hurt, but he couldn’t keep living a lie.

“I don’t need you! I don’t need anyone!” Morro was pacing even faster. “Especially not ones who lie to me!”

Zane stared; his eyes wide.

“All you’ve done is lie to me.” Morro snarled. “And for that, you deserve to suffer. You shouldn’t use people!”

“I would never-”

“Yes, you would! You used me! You used me to make Pixal jealous so you could get back together with her!”

“Morro, that’s not-”

“Didn’t I tell you to shut up?” With a small flick of his wrist, his wind slammed Zane into the wall beside the door.

“If you would just let me-”

“No! I won’t listen to your lies anymore! I don’t want to be told you love me! I don’t want to be told you’ll stay because you won’t! No one does! I’m not worth it! I’m not worth anything! So, shut up!” More tears fell from Morro’s cheeks.

“Oh, Morro…” Zane sighed and tried to stand, only to be knocked over by a gust of wind.

Morro fell silent as he stared at Zane, he turned his attention to the window. He could fit through it, right? He needed to get away. To escape. He didn’t want to deal with this anymore. He couldn’t handle dealing with this anymore.

“Morro, please.” Zane was tearing up.

Morro rushed the window, pushing it up and slipping out of it. He didn’t want to be in the monastery anymore. He didn’t want to be near Zane anymore. He was tired of this all. He found his way to the stairs and ran off.  It was the only thing he could do. He didn’t need anyone. He didn’t need Zane. He had himself, and that’s all he’d ever need.

                                            The End.

Okay so, I haven’t analysed any posters in around about a year. In fact, the last poster I did analyse was one for the Ninjago Movie around June or July last year? I’ve been thinking recently about some of the stuff I’d said when I’d first analysed the poster, and I thought since we all actually know what happens within the movie now, I could get more out of my previous analysis and the poster. So I’ve gone back and analysed it all over again. I repeated a few points from the original analysation but I’ve also been able to add some more things in there! 

I’ve been meaning to do this for a few months, however recently I’ve been really missing Media studies, and I want to do more poster analysations over the course of Summer. So I did this today in order to get back into analysing, since I haven’t really examined anything other than my own coursework (which isn’t really all that fun if I’m honest)

Green = nature = Lloyd is Green Ninja (Ninja of Life) = green/nature/life often associated with “growth” = implies growth happens within film, also implies Lloyd is the cause of that growth (as he is the Ninja of Life).

Green = nature = nature associated with “peace” = ninja fight for peace. Also links in with idea of finding balance between light and dark (like Yin and Yang, which links in with the cultures portrayed within film)

Bamboo = One of the places used within film = could be considered a significant part as it marks the point where Lloyd is forced to work with his father, which helps lead on to the ending of the movie.

Bamboo = climbing up away from darkness and toward the light = have to work towards the light = Master Wu briefly talks about them being “true ninja”, implying that because of their mechs it hinders them from becoming these true ninjas that Wu tells them they need to be, so when Garmadon attacks and Ninjago City falls (ruled by the “darkness”), the ninja have to go to the jungle and become the true ninja that Wu wants them to become. In doing so they are also saving Ninjago City from the “darkness”, so therefore, are working towards light again.

Sun shining through bamboo = Ninja climbing towards it = connotes they are working for the good side. Also suggests to audience how film could end peacefully, since they are heading towards light and away from darkness. Light only coming through gaps = implies the goal they are headed towards won’t be easy to get to.

Tagline = “find the ninja within ya” = Rhymes = stick’s better in the T/A’s head. Tagline is also addressing the audience = invites audience to join the story/become ninja alongside the protagonists = could also imply part of the movie’s message is finding the motivation or “fight” within you, making you try your best and excel in the things you love and are passionate about.

Tagline is also the same colour as Lloyd’s colour scheme/overall colour scheme of the poster. Connotes Lloyd is finding his inner ninja/you are finding your own power alongside him. Can link to the idea of Lloyd not having elemental powers whilst his friends do, meaning he had to find his own power within himself, much like the audience might do (as they do not have elementals either)

“The LEGO” = small, white font. “LEGO” is in capital letters, much like how the logo of the company is. Also capitalized as LEGO is a well known, worldwide brand that is recognised by many people. Fans of LEGO see it is a LEGO movie and become interested in seeing film. Typeface in white = white connotes innocence = innocence is associated with children = child friendly movie = appeals to parents of children also.

“NINJAGO” = large, red font. Biggest word on the poster = stands out the most. Use of accent colour (red) also makes it stand out more. Located in centre of poster = first thing T/A sees. Ninjago fans see title = attracts their attention.

Red = connotes war = war going on between Lloyd and Garmadon (Good vs Bad/Light vs Dark), or possibly the war being put aside between those two so they can both fight Meowthra.

Red = connotes adventure = implies to audience that the film is full of action/adventure.

Red = connotes aggression/anger = could link to Lloyd’s anger towards his father, maybe also Ninjago’s anger towards Garmadon/Lloyd (cos destruction and all that). Possibly even anger Garmadon feels about not changing and letting Koko take his son away.

Red = connotes love = links to Lloyd and Garmadon putting their differences aside and bonding with each other, resulting the film’s ending. Garmadon loving his son and Lloyd learning to love his dad despite it all.

Lloyd: Looking directly at audience (D.M.O.A) and holding out hand to you = inviting you to come on the journey with the characters = friendly personality. Smiling = suggests character is happy however this is different to how he is portrayed in the film, as we know he tends to fake a smile in front of others. Green = associated with “Go” = implies he takes action within the film and steps up as a leader. Blonde hair = can be associated with characters with good morals as yellow is a bright colour that is linked to happiness and joy, which is what Lloyd brings when he is saving Ninjago from Garmadon. However, yellow also can connote dishonesty, betrayal and jealousy = these could link in with moments in the film where Lloyd went behind the ninja’s back to use the Ultimate Weapon on Garmadon, and also later on in the jungle when the other ninja are listening to his father and ignoring him. Green eyes = connotes he is protagonist to the audience as it is a characteristic only he has (aside from Garmadon, who is the antagonist). Only character without a mask on = further connotes to audience he is main focus of the film. Biggest anchor image on the poster = another implication to the audience he is the protagonist.

Jay: Looking off to the side in fear = anxious/nervous personality = cautious with his actions. Gesture code = hugging the bamboo = connotes further he is a nervous person = needs comforting. Blue is associated with confidence = expression suggests he is the opposite of confident = creates irony. However, blue could also suggest that by the end of the movie he gains more confidence in himself, which leads to him unlocking his powers. Blue can also be linked to technology = Jay is a very technical person = intelligent. Colour is often associated with water too = crush on Nya. Weapon = flail = lone range weapon = suggests he prefers to fight from afar rather than up close = links to his cautious and nervous personality = also implies he as a person prefers to stay far away from a situation if he can = doesn’t enjoy fighting = dislikes violence/lacks enough confidence to stand up/fight for himself

Zane: D.M.O.A = Illuminative blue eyes = intimidating = scary in combat. Eyes also imply to audience he is a robot. White connotes innocence = naive one of the group. White = protection = made to protect those who cannot protect themselves (hah). White = precision = implies further he is a robot. Colour = simplicity = could link in with stereotypical behaviour of a robot following simple instructions/possibly links to his want to be more human as he follows a basic set of rules/instructions he thinks will make him appear more human to his peers. White also associated with winter = elemental power is ice. Aiming bow and arrow with legs rather than arms = skilled/powerful = links back to implication of him being scary in combat.

Cole: Black = connotes mystery/anonymity = quiet character/doesn’t have a lot to say/likes to keep to himself. Black also connotes unhappiness = may be why he is quiet/blocks out world with music. Colour also suggests death = his possible unhappiness may link in with loss of parent = explains why he blocks out the world with music. Only gi without sleeves = implies strength = elemental is earth/strong enough to cause earthquakes/move the earth. Arched eyebrows = confident personality. Weapon = Hammer = can cause a lot of damage = links to his elemental.

Kai: Red = love/passion = cares about his friends = encouraging and friendly personality which is mostly evident when around Lloyd or Nya (shown when Nya is attacked by Garmadon and Kai steps in, or at the start of the movie where Kai shows excitement around Lloyd upon seeing him arrive at school). Also cares about Ninjago City = protective/willing to risk his life. Red also connotes anger/frustration = implies he is hot-headed/easy to anger = does more things on impulse instead of thinking things through. Angry expression further connotes this to audience. Weapon : two katanas = further implies he acts on impulse. Prefers close combat instead of ranged attacks = likes to be in on the action = likes taking action/gets an adrenaline rush.

Nya: Black/Grey = connotes power = powerful character in combat. White streak on uniform = binary opposites = suggests different personalities depending on what situation she is in/who she is in front of (friends or enemies). Angry expression similar to her brother’s = similar personalities = suggests they have a lot in common = get along well/look out for each other. Weapon is a spear = suggest she has great aim/accuracy, may also suggest she has graceful/elegant fighting style in battle. D.M.O.A = invites girls to join the movie as well = widens T/A (no gender specific audience)
