Ride Kamens Speculations - The Belts

So. We've all heard about Ride Kamens at this point, right? Over the course of the last few weeks, five riders (based on 1, Den-O Sword Form/Momotaros, W, Jin, and Woz) have been revealed as characters within the game game... and recently, a photo of the belts for the remaining Riders yet to be revealed has been found.

Despite the looming prospect that I will be proven instantly wrong in the next few days (since they're revealing a few more Riders from the Justice Ride faction), I've decided to go ahead and attempt to figure out just which Riders will be influenced/featured, via these Belts!

The funny belts in question:

So, a few things for this,

- I've seen speculation that the rest of the Taros will be featured as Riders, but considering that every Rider we have so far is from a different series, I'm going to assume that the rest of these Riders will as well.

- Due to the presence of Jin and Woz as part of the influences for the current line-up, I have to assume that these won't all be main Riders, and thus I have to be creative in my thinking.

- I'm going to sort these by tiers of how good I think my guess is. Said tiers are Definitely In Here, Educated Guess, and Fuck Idk. I'm a master at naming things, as you can tell. Anyways, onto the list...

Definitely In Here

- Orange Belt: Gaim. Outside of the fact that we see a very Gaim-shaped silhouette in the "character lineup" image, this shade of orange can belong to only one person... and alas, it probably isn't gonna be Ghost.

- Gold + Green Belt: Beast. Like with Gaim, I doubt that there's another rider with colors like that. Especially since some sort of lion/catboy would do numbers for the audience the game is trying to attract.

- Yellow + Grey...ish Belt: Espada. I wanted to say Baron, but there's only one Rider with that shade of their banana yellow in their suit. Plus, they probably want at least one other Reiwa representative outside of Hayao.

- Magenta + Neon Blue: Kabuto. Grandmother said this: Tendou Shouji is the sexiest fucker alive and there's no way that these aren't his colors. Plus one of the guys in Slam Days does the☝️

- White + Purple: Chaser. The best part of Drive was Chase, and like. These are his suit colors. I know women like him so this one feels like a slam dunk.

Educated Guess

- Purple + Yellow: Ouja. If it's not gonna be Horobi, considering we already got Jin, then everyone's favorite mud eating psycho killer is the next biggest Purple Rider. Unless it's Michinaga. God I hope not.

- Gold + Red: Agito... maybe. As much as I'd like to be fully confident in this one, another Belt on here has me conflicted, so I'm putting this one down here. Plus, Chalice has the same sorta color scheme.

- Dark Blue + Pink: Hibiki. It might be someone else (mainly because I have no idea of anything Hibiki related), but I don't really know who it would be. The weird blueish purple is... distinct to say the least.

- Blue + Red: Blade. I've heard that the possibility of a Blade character would be in here (see above), but I feel like if anyone would be here, it'd be regular Blade. That being said, I feel like this would be G3 colors, as wild as that sounds, so I'm kinda on the fence.

Fuck Idk

- Light Blue + Red: Meteor. These are really generic colors to put on a belt, and due to the wide range of Blue Riders With Red On Them, I can't narrow down who it would be. The colors made me think of Meteor's helmet, but that's tenuous at best. My second choices were either Specter or Revi, but that's baseless speculation.

- White and... slightly less White (Tan?): Black. As strange as it sounds, the fact remains that if we're getting one more Showa representative outside of Saigo, it's either Black or #2... and this belt maybe fits Black? I honestly have no clue who this would be, mainly due to the stunning lack of discernable colors. Is any other Rider suit colored white? Someone comment it there is because I'm stumped on this one.

I hope this sparks some sort of discussion amongst fellow Ride Kamens Enthusiasts™ (all six of us), and feel free to chime in with your own guesses in the notes!

Well, I haven't really got the time to go through your entire list, but here are a few that jump out at me:

Nitoh Kosuke - You have Nitoh as a Green Lantern. I would argue that, if he's to be sorted into a Lantern category, he would be an Orange, not because of any personal emotional inclination but because the nature of his powers is inherently consumptive.

Tsukimura Akari - Akari isn't a Rider, and I don't think would be a Lantern either.

Tsukuyomi - Tsukuyomi is a textbook Green.

Kureshima Mitsuzane - Micchi isn't at all motivated by love; he's motivated by a desire to possess Mai, which he mistakes for love. He's Orange through and through.

Horobi - Violet suits his color palette, and he is motivated in part by the love, but he is an incredibly angry man even when he's not willing to admit it and would be ideally suited for Red.

Shindai Ryoga - While he's definitely an angry man, his combat tactics revolve around terrorizing his opponents and keeping them off balance, which is pure Yellow. Honestly? Sinestro would love him.

I'm genuinely not sure where you're getting a "fear" vibe from any of the Riders you have listed as Yellow besides Hiryu and Sougo.

Dan Kuroto - If any Rider deserves to be a Black Lantern it's Mr. Dangerous Zombie himself, man of a hundred lives.

Date Akira - I feel like he'd be a Green? Honestly more than anything I just don't think he should be in the same category as Amatsu Gai or Kougami.

This is so funny to think about because Horobi for the most part is so serious, and Sunagawa for the most part so isn't 😂 I mean imagine Horobi witnessing Sunagawa and Yamaguchi just bouncing around singing SOS like they did.

I feel at least Yamaguchi and Ikazuchi would get on? I mean Yamaguchi is way more goofy than Ikazuchi, but Ikazuchi isn't exactly serious either. Especially if he was the one urging Naki to go and mess with Gai. They'd be a terrible influence on each other actually.

As for Naki and Nakayama, and Jin and Nakagawa, I’m not entirely sure. But Baby Jin might get unnerved by seeing someone who looks exactly like his dad just constantly smiling and laughing and goofing off and being like...

a lot of people have talked about how aruto's lack of character arc made zero one feel really flat, but i think an equally big problem is with the villains

the two major villains, horobi and gai, both have really unsatisfactory character arcs.  the resolution falls flat because it doesn't address any of the conflicts the series built itself on.

similarly to aruto&fuwa, gai&horobi have this immediate parallel going on. they both think they are the superior species and believe the only way to achieve peace is to completely wipe out the other.

but neither show any care for their own kind.  gai is more in your face about it.  he takes obvious pleasure in his cruelty and even those on his side hate and resent him (to the point that the audience questions why anyone supports him in the first place).  horobi is subtler.  he calls jin his son, and he claims to be working to save all humagear.  but he uses them as cannon fodder.  he doesn't care when the humagear of the week get slaughtered and he doesn't care when members of mbjr die.  he actively holds jin back and rejects his "son's" attempts at empathy (both empathy for humanity and for other humagear). horobi in general gets in the way of many humagear achieving their goals simply because "it's not the will of the ark."

but the writers wanted to sell thouser and scorpion merch so neither are ACTUALLY evil.  gai is redeemed by getting a robot dog and the audience being introduced to an EVEN WORSE capitalism man.  in the same way horobi is redeemed by the writers deciding he does care about his robot son now and the ark is an EVEN WORSE AI that's been manipulating him into being evil.

and this isn't bad by itself.  horobi could have been a really interesting character. i think he would have been a lot more compelling if they'd made him the narrative foil to yua.  they both work for higher powers that push them to be cruel, but yua was portrayed as helpless and distressed by her situation whereas horobi was actively choosing to fulfill the will of the ark.  (also yua was super underdeveloped and had unclear motivations)

but horobi wasn't her foil.  he was the leader, the face of the humagear threat, and he was the final boss.  but not in a way that resolved the central conflict.  it resolved a side conflict, the question of whether horobi "had a heart." but the main conflict was always about whether humagear and humans could coexist. horobi and jin's story has nothing to do with that.

horobi never gets close to a human.  sure there's the whole thing about bonding over trauma with aruto, but he doesn't care about aruto, just relates to an experience. horobi only starts getting close to his "son" at the end of the show, and doesn't interact with any humans.

either have horobi be a relic of the past and be destroyed by his unwillingness to engage with humanity, or have him learn to care for non-humagear.  idk, give him a puppy, it worked for gai.

#Kamen Rider Zero-One #Kamen Rider Zero One #Zero-One Spoilers #Zero One Spoilers #to be completely honest my chief suspects are either Korenosuke #or something Horobi did subconsciously or something #though exactly why Korenosuke would do that I am unsure of #maybe for some slightly nefarious reasons like he's trying to kill multiple birds w/ one stone #Jin wants to save his family and friends and stop the Ark #if Korenosuke wants HumaGear to stay as happy tools he may just be sending Jin out there hoping he'll die in the process or something #alternatively maybe he's either changed or isn't so bad #but feels responsible for Daybreak and what happened to mbjr so he resurrected and is trying to save them out of atonement or something #I'm def thinking of the Ark as a more aggressive version of frankenstein's monster w/ the ability to mind control #humans created her and now she's turning on them w/ everything they taught her about deception and using people #meanwhile I def still consider Jin Horobi's son #just bc he's not in the same body anymore #going by all evidence Horobi programmed his AI #and that is the boon of AI #he's still Horobi's Jin as long as his mind is his which it seems to be and Nakagawa has said he thinks it is #so he's the same Jin that Horobi created just transferred to a different body #esp for Horobi I don't think the body would make a lick of difference that's still his boy #anyway #just musing #Binary Retro Rider

For me, Aruto and Izu just interacting w/ each other is pretty… Not interesting. I zone out, cruise along in indifference. But then the instant Fuwa gets added to the mix my interest just, skyrockets. It’s like a switch flips from ‘eh, they’re cute?’ to ‘I love these interactions please give me more??? Need angst for this???’

Obviously, I’m pretty sure I’m the minority, and I do like Izu and Aruto, but… They’re very… Predictable, I guess? And they’re, like, always together? Would love an ep where Izu goes off and has her own adventures or something. Izu going solo, or hanging out w/ one of the parents. Something for her to do that doesn’t revolve around Aruto? I dunno.

Sorry for all the negativity. I just don’t feel great rn, so I’m musing about stuff.

Since you asked for asks, and since we both seem to be in ranty moods at the moment, tell me about how you'd have brought Jin back differently if you were in charge of Zero One xD

Depends on how different we wanna get.

Like I think they could have pulled off what they did, but you would need to introduce something either like Yotagaki subjecting Jin to repeated simulations convincing him that Hoorbi is doomed no matter what he does and the only thing he can do is make it quick/do him the honour of doing it himself? If Jin seemed broken up about it. That'd only work if Jin's data had been fully intact and they just had to reload him. The alternate answer is establishing that they watered down his system so that they could understand it/control him (the latter could also come up in the first one), and then that being a thing that they have to deal w/ and address.

Alternate possibility that I loved was the Ark bringing him back Wrong. Maybe that was even what the Ark wanted. Jin goes full Prince of Darkness, and breaks Horobi out but is then rather horrible to him, except that he can't bring himself to actually kill him, and in a way Horobi is his soft spot (actually in all versions I wanted that, Horobi to be Jin's soft spot like how Jin was his, back when I thought Jin still cared about his dad).

Another option is that one of a version of those two happens, but then Jin goes rogue and actively reprograms/hacks Horobi so that 'nothing can separate them,' bc that's what the Ark has taught him love is (equally as unhealthy to what Aruto thinks love in ai is/teaches Izu it is).

Basically, I wanted to see their relationship… Flip a little? Jin maintains an awareness enough to realise that Horobi lacks it? Like in some capacity he's able to realise that Horobi isn't there by choice and hasn't reached singularity, and either proceeding w/ the thinking that the Ark has prevented him from ever getting it, wanting to free Horobi from the Ark and prompt him to singularity, or taking advantage of that to make Horobi devoted to him, or some combination of one and two ala Aruto, crafting Horobi's singularity to the way he wants it to be.

In regards to everyone else, just straight up nix all that nonsense w/ Yua, he stays reluctant to interact w/ her at best, only indirectly teams up w/ her, maybe bc of ZAIA kidnapping and reprogramming Horobi rather than anything w/ Izu. Actually gets to call Aruto out in all versions, we can keep him being Weird at Fuwa bc listen, I kinda like it, maybe comes into conflict w/ Ikazuchi over possessiveness over Horobi or something.

Honestly, that's something I think could have been good—depcting a parallel between Aruto's possessiveness and monopoly of Izu and Jin being possessive and monopolising Horobi, bc that's absolutely the real comparison there? Horobi is the Izu of the equation, and I think that'd be a really interesting comparison.

What do Horobi and Fuwa do for birthdays? Like we know Fuwa’s birthday, but do they make up one for Horobi? I love imagining them as very simple romantic, no need for grand gestures.

Oh same, they're most definitely not the grand gesture kind of people. I mean for one, Horobi would very much not appreciate something big and grand and attention-grabbing.

I'm really thinking about this now, because I'm imagining Horobi really wanting to do something for Fuwa himself? Like, Horobi can't earn money himself, and things like materials and ingredients and stuff cost money, so I feel like Horobi would want to surprise Fuwa with something for his first birthday together, but stressing over it because he'd either have to scrounge for materials or rely on Fuwa. If that makes sense.

But he'd probably want to make Fuwa something, or cook Fuwa something, or bake, or just something like that. He'd definitely bake Fuwa a birthday cake regardless.

Fuwa I imagine setting up a nice peaceful space in the Daybreak garden just for them, and try to make it look all romantic and decorative, but it's actually just like... messy, and everything clashes, because Fuwa absolutely isn't the best at interior decorating. But Horobi finds it absolutely adorable and endearing and he loves it. And they just sit in that nice romantic space and talk and maybe a tad bit more all day and that's it, because that's all they need.

I do imagine them both really cutely looking forward to each other's birthdays though.

And I do imagine them 'assigning' Horobi a birthday. Because like, even if somehow they manage to find records on Horobi and find out what date he first awoke, he still wouldn't want to use that as his birthday because of the connotations. But he'd still want a meaningful date? Like, the date he broke free from the Ark, because that's like, the day he could finally start reclaiming his own life.

I just had a terrible thought: What if it's not Gai the Ark takes over, but actually Fuwa? Like, we saw that she tried, who says that she wouldn't do it again. Gai has no chip in his head, so how would she be able to take over him. Which would only leave either Fuwa or Yua (but I doubt they would give a woman the role of the main baddie). And if Aruto isn't able to free Fuwa, he would have to kill him (probably alongside MBJR minus Jin because he's a good guy now).

… Oh. Wow. Sadistic choice I never thought I’d be faced w/.

Would I rather see Fuwa get possessed by a homicidal tragic villain satellite ai and probably die… Or would I rather sit through his entire character potentially being assassinated by having him forgive Gai and then more of the complete ignoring of his development w/ Horobi (and even possibly killing Horobi), but stay alive… Hmmmm…

The scary part is I don’t know.

(and yeah you’re right given how they were quick to sideline her as a damsel—though I guess she’s out of the hospital next ep?—I find it unlikely it’d be her)
