Another cool event with @wwp in the bag. Wood turning was interesting and challenging. I had to learn to relax and give myself grace while learning to do a skill I never even heard about! I made the first three items and the single bottle topper was made by Mike the gentleman that was my instructor. It’s amazing the people you meet, at lunch we were all chatting and Mike tells us he was an Admiral in the Coast Guard. I want to share something meaningful with you all. Tumblr has been more than just a website for me—it's been a sanctuary, a place where I found solace amidst the turmoil. In those days, I'd lose myself in tattoo pictures, punk designs, and gothic aesthetics. It was my escape, especially during the darkest times when I was enduring abuse at home as a child.

Now, a decade later, I've come a long way. Despite the hardships, I've found my passion in tattooing. It's been a journey marked by struggles, but also by the support of my amazing girlfriend—who embodies the beauty and strength of the gothic Tumblr girls I admired back then.

I want to reach out to the world and to my younger self, the sixteen-year-old who made promises to herself amidst the chaos. I want her to know that I'm fulfilling those promises now. And as I find myself back on Tumblr, I want to showcase my work to the world and to that younger version of me, to make her proud of who I've become.

Beautiful, flamboyant, daring, provocative and fiercely independent, she emerged in the 1960s as a powerful and original figure in the highly masculine international arts world.

The exhibition includes her acclaimed 'Shooting Pictures', made by firing a .22 rifle into bags of paint strapped to a canvas, as well as her brightly coloured, exuberant sculptures of enormous women, which she christened the 'Nanas'.

was a French-American sculptor, painter, filmmaker, and author of colorful hand-illustrated books. Widely noted as one of the few female monumental sculptors, Saint Phalle was also known for her social commitment and work.

She had a difficult and traumatic childhood and a much-disrupted education, which she wrote about many decades later. After an early marriage and two children, she began creating art in a naïve, experimental style. She first received worldwide attention for angry, violent assemblages which had been shot by firearms. These evolved into Nanas, light-hearted, whimsical, colorful, large-scale sculptures of animals, monsters, and female figures. Her most comprehensive work was the Tarot Garden, a large sculpture garden containing numerous works ranging up to house-sized creations. via Wikipedia

@purplefeathersandblackleather, you inspired me to start sharing my projects despite how self conscious I am. I give you the handmade address sign that my uncle made when he was a young child. I was able to copy his handwriting via stencils (we have similar handwriting so that helps) this sign has so many memories both good and bad. My grandma sadly had to sell her house because it was falling apart and she couldn't afford it any longer. I remember going over to her house and spending the night when I was younger as well as making pancakes and anything else you could imagine. I forgot to take a before picture but this sign is a piece of pine that was very rough and would give one splinters when you touch it. I sanded it down with 2 different grits of sand paper on the sides and used a wire brush similar to a grill brush on the front and back. I hope she loves it as much as I do. It's something small that will help her remember all the good times in that house. As well as forget the tragic memories in that house. (all the pain despair, depression, and death) her husband whom she loves so much died at home from smoking related issues before I was even born. She hasn't been the same since and refused to try to find someone else. I will be posting a finished picture as well when it's done.

TBI, or Traumatic Brain Injury, can be a difficult and life-changing experience. However, many individuals who have experienced TBI have gone on to achieve amazing things and inspire others.

Despite facing significant challenges, TBI survivors have demonstrated incredible resilience and perseverance. From learning to walk and talk again, to relearning how to complete everyday tasks, their journey is one of determination and courage.

Many TBI survivors have also become advocates for brain injury awareness and research, using their experiences to help others who are going through similar challenges. Their stories serve as a reminder of the power of the human spirit to overcome adversity and find new paths forward.

So, while TBI may present significant obstacles, it is also an opportunity to grow, learn, and inspire others. With the right support and mindset, TBI survivors can achieve incredible things and make a meaningful impact on the world around them.

Art has been found to have a profound impact on the human brain. Research has shown that engaging in creative activities like drawing, painting, and even just looking at art can stimulate various regions of the brain, leading to increased neural connectivity and plasticity.

Studies have also demonstrated that the experience of art can be therapeutic, improving mood, reducing stress, and even decreasing the perception of physical pain. In fact, art therapy has become an increasingly popular form of treatment for a range of mental health conditions, from anxiety and depression to PTSD.
