start slow! i say this in all of my workout posts when i give advice, but i promise it is important. pushing yourself too far in the beginning will only injure you, so don’t be afraid to take it easy at first.
don’t judge yourself. it’s much easier said than done when you see people who have been practicing for years and seem like they can do everything, but everyone has things that they struggle with. i’ve been practicing yoga consistently for 5 years now and there are still things that i struggle with, so don’t be too hard on yourself.
going alone with the tip above, have a sense of humor about your journey. if you fall, it’s perfectly fine. it happens to the best of us! as long as you stay safe and get back up and keep trying, you’re doing great.
switch it up! as mentioned above, there are many types of yoga, and the ones i named are just a few. don’t be afraid to try different types! i used to hate yin because i found it even harder than the more flow-y sequences, but now it’s one of my favorites. it’s always good to get some variety in your practice and you may end up loving something you thought you would hate!

Astanga Vinyasa Yoga Astanga, or sometimes spelled ashtanga Yoga is actually taught today by a man named Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, in Mysore, India. He has brought astanga yoga to the west about 25 years ago and still teaches today at 91 years of age. Astanga yoga began with the rediscovery of the ancient manuscript Yoga Korunta. It describes a unique system of Hatha yoga as practiced and created by the ancient sage Vamana Rishi. It is believed to be the original asana practiced intended by Patanjali. The Yoga Korunta emphasizes vinyasa, or breath-synchronized movement, where one practices a posture with specific breathing patterns associated with it. This breathing technique is called ujayyi pranayama, or the victorious breath, and it is a process that produces intense internal heat and a profuse sweat that purifies and detoxifies the muscles and organs. This also releases beneficial hormones and nutrients, and is usually massaged back into the body. The breath ensures efficient circulation of blood. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body and a calm mind. There is a proper sequence to follow when practicing Astanga yoga. One must graduate from one sequence of postures to move onto the next. The Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa) detoxifies and aligns the body, purifying it so that toxins do not block. My Education Part 3 What type of yoga do I teach myself? At the moment I teach a yoga mix based on my experience from the teachers I learnt from and based on the needs of my clients. I learnt yoga all over the world. My first encounter with yoga happened in 2010, in Ukraine, Iyengar yoga. In this style of yoga one uses lots of props - objects to help you improve your poses, such as blankets, chairs, belts, block, bolsters, etc. When I moved to Mexico I started practicing vinyasa yoga which is a flow of yoga poses, restorative yoga which is more slow paced and therapeutic, Iyengar yoga and Ashtanga yoga which is a sequence of certain yoga poses done in specific order. I also tried Yin yoga, and Bikram yoga. The type that resonated with me the most were vinyasa and restorative yoga. Once my practice became more deep and committed, I went to India in 2013 and got my 500 hours Yoga Teacher Training certification in Hatha yoga which is a classical one. I was a beautiful experience to learn yoga from its birthplace and to deep dive into its roots, philosophy, and practical aspects of it. I have attended vinyasa yoga, alignment, Iyengar, yoga for runners workshops in Mexico, Europe, and India. When I came back from India I decided to take another teacher training course in Spanish - to learn Western approach and to practice Spanish more to be able to teach yoga in Spanish in Mexico. So, I embarked on another yoga journey with Dharma yoga student TJ Jackson. Dharma Mittra is a Brazilian yoga teacher who lives in New York and who developed his own style, from my perspective a well structured mixture of ashtanga and vinyasa yoga styles. Oh, and of course Kundalini yoga! I practiced Kundalini yoga, too. I’m not certified as a Kundalini yogi however there was a time in my life when for solid 2 years I was a dedicated follower of it. I went to meditations with Guru Dev Singh in Mexico, Harijiwan Singh who came from LA to Mexico to give a gong meditation which was absolutely mind blowing, and I have visited quite a few White Tantras in Mexico and the US.
