Unforeseen AGI Consequences

an AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is the endgame of AI, the "singularity" and there are a plethora of books, tv, and movies on potential consequences of this step. real scientists are tackling the issue of how to build one that doesn't end up doing things we don't want it to do. Especially because we have no way of telling when it might occur, if it hasn't already, or if it is at all possible.

GPT and all of the other LLM's (Large Language Models) are not AGI's, and are not intending to be either. but the AI bubble and investments have led many decision making people to believe it is, or should be. businesses are implementing AI in places it has no reason to be.

the question in the past have been about what might happen if we give a super intelligent computer control of the world, but we never thought to ask what if someone made a really poor knock off of a super intelligent computer and conned everyone into using it to make really important decisions.

We've already seen cases of hiring, and insurance being decided by LLM's that lead to no clear point of blame or accountability. and it feels like it will keep getting worse until the whole system collapses. either because the people who make decisions realize the problems their causing, or the problems go too far and things start to break.

before it was like, "what a horrifying thing to do to a human being! to take away their autonomy and privacy, all for the sake of profits! to create fake scenarios for them to react to, just to retain viewership! to ruin their happiness just so some corporate entity could harvest money from their very humanity! how could anyone do something so evil?"
