Fantastic Four #371

The Watcher called Aron had kidnapped Alicia Masters, but Mr Fantastic and the Thing followed the trail to Aron’s base. It was all a trap, where Aron hoped to imprison the FF in an artificial universe.

Meanwhile, the Power-Skrull, Devos and Lyla (the Human Torch’s Skrull-wife) attacked the Human Torch, almost defeating him. His only choice was to go Nova, which unfortunately caused the Empire State University to burn down.

Early Years

First, the radiation somehow affected Susan Richards' body in such a way as to give her serious difficulties in giving birth. For unknown reasons, soon before she was to give birth to Franklin, Susan Richards' blood cells were observed to be carrying a strange form of energy that threatened the lives of both herself and the baby. Presumably, this energy effect is linked with Susan Richards' superhuman powers over energy that enable her to become invisible and to create force fields.

The cosmic radiation that had given Reed and Susan Richards their superhuman powers also resulted in affecting the genetic structure of their son: Franklin was born a mutant. Unlike most superhuman mutants, whose unusual powers do not emerge until the mutant reaches puberty, Franklin began manifesting his superhuman powers at a very early age. The very first indication of his powers was shown when the Frightful Four had beaten the Fantastic Four, as a toddler Franklin Richards used this power to wake up the Thing and this allowed the Fantastic Four to achieve victory.

A powerful reality warper, he was one of the most powerful beings in the universe even at a young age. Franklin was long-time believed to be a mutant when in reality his own powers had caused him to subconsciously alter his anatomy to make it seem like he had an X-Gene.

Franklin used his god-like abilities to help restore the Multiverse following its collapse due to the incursion crisis, but as a result, he was ultimately depleted of most of his powers. Franklin saved up the remaining of his divinity for emergencies only, and finally became fully depowered after taking a stand against the alien Cormorant. With his powers gone, the simulated X-Gene was also gone, and Franklin stopped being a mutant.

Powers

Psychic Abilities: Franklin has vast psychic powers, able to telepathically probe others and/or render them unconscious.

Psionic Defense: Franklin's psionic powers enable him to release painful psychic bursts, project explosive energy blasts, and levitate.

Matter Manipulation: Alongside Franklin's psychic blasts, he can emit a dynamic force and manipulate matter to stabilize the sun or turn a Celestial assault into flowers.

Cosmic-level powers: Franklin has the cosmic-level ability to transform reality but has little over this power, creating pocket universes subconsciously.

Notes:

Franklin's age, which is the subject of much controversy within the Marvel Comics Scaling Timeline, has never been fully stated, although often joked about or hinted at.

Franklin was five years old during Onslaught's actions.

Franklin's eighth birthday was celebrated in 4 #1.

Tom Brevoort has stated that, in the real world year of 2014, he was eight years old.

Ben Grimm and Alicia Masters are Franklin's godparents.

While on Krakoa, Franklin expelled less energy, making his power loss slower than normal at the time. Krakoa has been known to react to mutant energies, and as Franklin isn't a mutant, it is unknown why this occurred.

According to History of the Marvel Universe, Franklin Richards is supposed to survive the end of his universe and pass on to the next, like Galactus before him. The One Below All (possessing Bruce Banner) confirmed that this is his intended destiny in a possible future, calling him the "appointed prince."

The One Below All states that Mister Immortal is Franklin's "back up" in case Franklin could not make it.

Trivia:

While Spider-Man has been believed to be Franklin's favorite superhero, he secretly favors whom he and Leech consider the strongest one they know, the Invisible Woman.

Franklin is a fan of Dazzler and Lila Cheney

The Richards family is just WILD, let me tell you. There’s:

Reed’s father, Nathaniel Richards, an immortal time traveler who abandoned Reed when Reed was about 13 so that he could run off with Howard Stark as part of the Brotherhood of the Shield and accidentally ended up becoming immortal in an explosion caused by Nikola Tesla. This accident also made it so that every Nathaniel in the multiverse had to hunt down and kill every other Nathaniel until only one was left. 616 Nathaniel won by asking his teenage son (Reed, not Kristoff) to help him murder the last surviving AU Nathaniel. He later wound up on an alternate, post-apocalyptic Earth that he saved and then ruled over, where he also happened to become the direct ancestor of Kang the Conqueror. He once abducted Reed’s son Franklin and took him to Elsewhen to be raised by the Warlord Kargul, and only returned him to Reed and Sue when he was an adult. Is just generally a devious, “ends justify the means” kind of person.

Reed’s mother, Evelyn Richards, a genius scientist who died when he was 7, probably the most normal one of the bunch.

Kristoff Vernard, Nathaniel’s son and Reed’s half-brother, who is also the adopted son of Victor Von Doom, Reed’s archnemesis, and who will one day be the dictator of Latveria. He had Doom’s personality and memories nonconsenually downloaded into his brain by Doombots who were following Doom’s orders in the event of his death. He has also tried to murder Reed a lot.

Huntara, aka Tara Richards, aka Nathaniel’s daughter and Reed’s half-sister, a Guardian of the Time Stream who was raised by the Warlord Kargul in Elsewhen alongside her kidnapped nephew Franklin, once joined the Frightful Four and stabbed Reed in the chest, which is the only interaction Reed’s ever had with her. She joined Fantastic Force to keep an eye on her nephew when he was Psi-Lord. Just generally a badass warrior lady who would literally murder her family to keep the timestream safe.

Reed Richards, Nathaniel’s son, the smartest man on Earth, and also a founding member of the Fantastic Four. Canon IQ of 370. Also very stretchy. In his time with the FF, he has defeated (and outsmarted) some of the most powerful beings in the universe, which includes Galactus and Victor Von Doom.

Susan Richards, Reed’s wife, one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel Universe, a founding member of the FF, and the Queen of Old Atlantis. Can beat the Avengers and also Victor Von Doom and all of his armies with both hands tied behind her back. Her forcefields can pierce even the armor of a Celestial.

Reed’s son Franklin Richards, one of—if not THE—most powerful mutants/reality warpers in existence. He is powerful enough to create entire universes on a whim—and keeps one of them in his closet so he can play in it. Almost wiped out all life in the solar system when he was less than two years old. Agatha Harkness was his nanny. Defeated Mephisto when he was four. Was also a member of the Power Pack at 4 as Tattletale. He, like his grandfather, is immortal, will outlive the universe, and Galactus will one day be HIS herald. Has beaten Celestials in a fight, and was once told by a Celestial that he is the culmination of all human existence and literally why the Celestials made humans in the first place.

Reed’s daughter Valeria Richards, one of the two smartest people in the Marvel Universe. Smarter than Reed by the time she was three. Likes to concoct plans for world domination in her spare time. Sue was initially pregnant with Val in the 1980s, but Val died and her soul was shunted off into an alternate reality by Franklin, where Val was born as the daughter of Sue and Victor. She re-entered her real parents’ lives as a teenager named Valeria Von Doom, but Franklin later used his powers to make Sue pregnant with Val again, and Sue gave birth successfully this time thanks to Doom, who delivered Val and also decided to make himself her godfather.

Nathaniel’s descendant Nathaniel Richards, more commonly known as Kang the Conqueror, who is a major supervillain in 616.
