Farleigh Start x reader

warnings: angst, being called stupid, mean farleigh, no happy ending ?

Farleigh and I had been seeing each other in secret for almost a year. I’ve tried speaking to him about maybe making whatever we have into a real relationship. Every time I get shut down, “I don’t have time for that y/n” or “Don’t start again with that.” What’s so wrong with wanting to be public with him?

He dragged me to some party, it was almost 3 in the morning and not once as he came and spoken to me. What’s the point of inviting me if he’s going to ignore me all night! Luckily Felix kept me company. Felix was a true friend, unlike Farleigh who just uses me and abandons me when he pleases. Eventually Felix found himself a girl, he still included me in their conversation but he can clearly tell I wasn't having the best time. "Why don't you look for a guy to chat up?" Felix said loudly over the blaring music, "I don't know Fe, it's not my type of thing to do that at parties" He rolled his eyes, "You've got to have fun in some way! Anna and I are going upstairs, later!" Felix said as he took hold of the random girls hand, walking away with her. I was completely alone now.

I wandered around the party, hoping I could find Farleigh. Sadly, instead of Far, I found Ollie. I didn't speak much to Ollie but he seemed fine. He was sitting on a couch with a drink in hand. I go sit next to him striking up conversation, I noticed his face was flushed, he was probably wasted. "Ollie! Hey" He looked over at me flashing an awkward smile, "Oh hey..Farleigh's not with you?" Oliver's question caught me a little off guard, “why would he be with me?” “Oh just thought..i thought that girl he was with was you..” My heart dropped to my stomach, “He was with another girl? Where is he now?” Oliver let out a hiccup as he shrugged “I dunno..they walked that way in there” He pointed past me to a room with the door closed. I shot up from my seat, “thanks ollie.” I said bitterly.

A part of me knew what I was going to find behind that door, but the other part hoped it wasn’t going to be what I thought it was. My stomach was turning at the thought. I knocked on the door kinda hard, only to hear Far’s voice saying “Go away!” I knocked again and pushed the door open without waiting for him to say anything. I stood there in the door way seeing him fingers deep inside some girl. My knees went weak, I wanted to throw up right there. “What are you doing?..” I asked seeing Farleighs eyes widen, slipping his fingers out of the girl, watching as they compose themselves. My head was pounding. We were never officially together so why do I care so much?

I moved from the doorway, rushing myself out of the party. I couldn’t be there, not when I just witnessed that. I can hear Farleigh calling out for me, turning around i yelled “what?!” “woah- why are you upset?” “Why am I upset?” I shouted as i turned to face him, “You cannot be that thick!” Farleigh stood there shocked, we were getting stares from people arriving at the party. “I don’t know what your talking about! Stop being so stupid and tell me” Farleigh said clearly getting upset. I sighed in frustration, “You invited me out to this party and I don’t even get to see you all night! Only to find out from fucking Oliver that your with some girl..fingers deep may i add!” I yelled out as I did a hand motion with my fingers moving up and down. Farleigh scoffed at me, “Okay? I left you alone at party, big fucking deal.”

My eyes widen, as my jaw dropped, “Are you kidding me?” “what?” He said with a confused laugh. “How are you going to go a finger some bimbo when I’m right here!” Farleigh started to get the hint, he let out a frustrated sigh, “Why do you care so much who i fuck?!” He yelled out before his expression changing, he finally understood why i was so upset. “what exactly do you think we have going on here?” His eerily calm yet aggressive tone shook me to my core, I stood there unable to speak before stuttering out “I-I don’t know..” Farleigh rolled his eyes at me, “You clearly do..do you think we’re some kind of couple?” I shrugged, my heart was pounding, I felt nauseous. “Listen..we fuck. we’re fuck buddies, that’s all we’re ever going to be” Farleigh said sternly. My heart dropped, I know it’s all we’d ever be but I can’t help my growing feelings for him.

Watching as he took a deep breath to calm down, his gaze was cold and uninviting. “Go home.” With that he turned around stepping back into the part leaving me alone outside. I stood there in shock, tears welling up in my eyes, my lip quivering. Before I knew it, I was there crying. I began to walk to my car, sobbing uncontrollably. How could he be so cruel? Involving myself with him was a mistake. Why couldn’t we have just been friends and not friends with benefits?

I drove myself home, rushing inside my home, and flopping onto my bed, sobbing into my pillow. To Farleigh I was just another one of his toys. But for me, my feelings towards him were genuine. I longed for Farleigh, I needed him. He was everything I could ever want. A part of me hoped Farleigh would text me or even show up and tell me he loved me. But i knew that wasn’t like him. Instead I got a text from Felix asking me where I had gone and if I knew why Farleigh was upset. My stomach was turning, the bellyache I’ve had since the party wasn’t going away and it was all his fault. Screw him for being so perfect, and screw me for being such a hopeless romantic.

omg ok im on saltburn rewatch #???? and smth just hit me. weve all been sort of operating under the assumption that what olivers mum says about him is true. taking the idea that he actively avoided socialization, avoided friends, kept to himself, at face value. but honestly?? i feel like it was the exact opposite. bc the first time he sees felix (assuming that the first time WE see felix in oxford is in fact the first time oliver sees him, as olivers telling would have us believe) its not like, some romantic shot of just felix himself. its very specifically *felix surrounded by the people who oliver was preemptively rejected by, whom felix has obviously charmed*. and like. if oliver was in fact a willful loner, like micheal gavey (although even there, the willful part is debateable, given the bitter undertone to his whole rant about not being invited to the christmas party), then hed have no reason to be so....disgusted? by micheals embracing of his loner status? oliver really strikes me as the type who truly wanted connection, but was socially shunned throughout middle and high school, and lied about it to his parents so as to duck the humiliation of facing their pity. he got them to think that he *wanted* to be alone. just like he got them to think hes on the rowing team. hes treating oxford as a fresh start, but hes still in his old habits of lying to his parents, and he still has his old wants. the first time he walks through the archway into oxford, hes insulted by people who dont even know him. and then, alone, peeping through a window, he sees felix. surrounded by friends. which is to say, i think he first falls in love not with felix as a person, but with what felix represents to him: *acceptance*. i know theres a lot of arguement whether oliver wanted felix OR saltburn, love OR wealth, to be with felix OR be him, but i swear to god, i really truly believe that at its core its both. this entire movie is about oliver conflating the two. he is drawn in by felix's halo effect, not just as a subject of his gravitational field, but as an aspiring planet himself.

Language Barrier - SKZ

who I think is mtl willing to learn a new language/communicate with someone despite a language barrier platonic or romantic? I'll leave that up to you...

most

bangchan - so obvious he's on the top. loves talking to people with different experiences and points of perspectives. might be difficult at first, but Chris strikes me as the type to never give up, especially if he's interested in you. he'll also encourage you to learn his native language, but he doesn't mind just learning yours

changbin - similar to Chris, but I think Bin is super talkative. just wants to connect with everyone and anyone, loves talking and hearing people talk. As long as you're respectful, he'll even show you some things in his culture. he loves expressing his love for his country

felix - has to be in the top 3, bro loves learning languages in his spare time. I think it's so cute when he goes to different countries for tour and learns phrases of the language there. he's a sweetheart, and would love if you showed him the things your culture has to offer. teach him, show him, ugh! he loves learning new things (it's his first life)

seungmin - he'll absolutely learn some key words, but full on sentences is difficult. if he's super into you and really thinks you both click, he'll devote time to learn your language/culture. He would love if you learned his in return. very much of a give and take relationship imo. if you're putting in effort, he will too.

i.n - good memory, but lacks the motivation. I feel like he might remember random ass words rather than the important ones. it's kinda cute. I do, however, think he can be encouraged if he likes talking with you. kind of like seungmin, it would really help if you learned his language/culture too. it shows that you care just as much as he does.

hyunjin - I feel like he can be forgetful but if he likes talking with you, he'll make sure to remember. he would much rather explore your culture and learn the language that way (he would love study sessions with you rather than online) bro could sit in silence with you and be totally fine with that. watch him paint, draw, etc. he loves quality time over talking anyway

han - he mostly just kinda catches on from what you say and might do a little research on the side, but nothing more. once again, he needs to be into you, like really into you to learn even the simplest of expressions. will absolutely forget the words he learned the very next day, but you just have to have patience with him

lee know - he's just super fucking nervous. can be a little self conscious but he'll never tell you that. im not gonna lie, I feel like you need to put in more effort than him. he's such a scorpio ya know? he can be a little put off about it, but hearing you try to learn and fumble your words makes him wanna try. he'll come around on his own time, just have to be patient. totally the type to see a random item and say it in your native language and wait for your response. praise him a bit!!! even if he acts all shy or uncaring, he appreciates it

dont you find it weird to write smut on actual people..?

depends on the type! i actually really don’t like speculative works inferring into real life preferences or dating habits, they do make me uncomfortable. anything about real relationships or tastes or speculating on their types, ‘does so and so like xyz in a partner/the bedroom/whatever.’ i don’t like em and i also just… dont care lol. i like fiction stories and i don’t care about celebrity life nor am i interested in any of these men in real life.

i write a couple different things. some fanfic is based on a skz property. ie. wolfgang is, unsurprisingly, based on wolfgang, as the kingdom performance has a narrative in it that i want to play with. thunderous and circus also set up little worlds that strike inspiration. in a lot of their properties, they often have pronounced characters or roles, it’s just those characters have their names lol. in my opinion there is a difference between writing something based on thunderous than, like, a video of ed sheeran playing his guitar

other fics are, frankly, fully original characters and skz are just the fancasts. if i changed every name in these stories there is zero identifying information. no one could read bodyguard with a name change and go “this sounds like felix from skz.” it’s just not there. there is less of a relationship between those stories than there is for stuff like the crown or other books and movies that purport to be about real people and their “true” story, however sensationalized or not. i am not purporting chan is a werewolf lol.

if tomorrow they said stop, i’d delete their names and could keep posting because the stories are so unconnected to their faceclaims🤷 seungmin is not a law student and chan is not a cat burglar and minho is not a race car driver.

the side of fic fandom that i like is either getting creative with skz properties or just basically writing stories for people who want to faceclaim the same faces in their original romance novels and short stories. it provides a built-in fan community to post. it’s still not for everyone and that’s fine, but for me fan works are not about their real life counterpart, it’s fanfiction using their characters or worlds or personas and sharing with a fan community interested in the same thing.

Ms. Sans-Culotte and the obvious French Revolution symbolism

This episode is a field day for me, so I'll need to analyse it bit by bit. Let's first start with the obvious and less obvious French Revolution references in this episode. This will be especially obvious for French viewers, but I thought that it may be interesting for others.

Sans-culotte

I know that the term sounds funny to most, but sans-culottes are a key figure in the French history. Those were the commoners who revolted to the King and aristocracy, and undertook the French Revolution of 1789. As Mademoiselle Bustier explains in the beginning of the episode, the sans-culottes were called so because:

Contrary to rich aristocrats, they would wear simple pants.

So when Mlle. Bustier is akumatised, we see the following character design:

THE PANTS. Very obviously the pants. But there are more obvious symbols in this character design.

Marianne

Marianne is the national personification of the French Republic. She is very much synonymous with the free and republican spirit of France. Yes, that's also the name of Master Fu's girlfriend, and for good reason (she was a Résistance fighter during the German occupation of France!).

By the way this exact painting is in the background in the few seconds after Mlle. Bustier is akumatised:

Marianne is usually depicted with the following symbols:

the Phrygian cap

Greco-Roman clothes

Partial nudity

We see these signs in Mlle. Sans Culotte's character design.

Mlle. Sans Culotte's helmet has the unique shape of the Phrygian cap.

2. Mlle. Sans Culotte is dressed in a Greco-Roman armour. The usual depiction of Marianne is in flowy Greco-Roman clothes, but the helmet and armour really add to that fighter spirit of Mlle. Sans Culotte. Also, even though rarer, there are some depictions of Marianne with a Greco-Roman armour.

3. Partial nudity. Obviously they couldn't actually show that on a kids show. However, I think that the character design does hint to a type of nudity. The fact that the white of the French flag covers all of Mlle. Bustier's face and body make it seem like it is not actually her clothes but her skin. And other than the golden armour she wears, she has no other clothes on her.

The Guillotine

Mlle. Sans Culotte's weapon of choice is a freaking guillotine knife. This was a device used by the French revolutionaries to behead their opponents. To this day, it is associated with the violence of the French revolution.

Now to more implicit references:

Ça ira

When Mlle. Sans Culotte hits people, they turn into balloons that chant:

Ça ira, ça ira, ça ira!

Which is a song sang by the sans-culottes during the French Revolution (thanks to @2manyfandoms2count for helping out with this one!)

Other quotes and remarks

There are various quotes throughout the episode with a revolutionary lexicon.

Monarch: The power of Jubilation will help you show the people their dream of freedom, and as such gain partisans/supporters to your cause.

Monarch: To arms, citizens! Form batallions!

This one is especially striking for me, because it is very explicit call to violence (frequently used in French revolutionary history too).

Mlle. Sans Culotte: No one stops the revolution. Long live the revolution!

She quite literally says Vive la révolution. Seriously, it doesn't get any more obvious than that.

She literally runs head-first into a group of policemen, paralleling the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789. And literally afterwards Chat Noir mentions this same event:

Chat Noir: It is not the 14th of July, my Lady. Do you think that this akuma victim wants to celebrate the Bastille Day early?

And later on:

Mlle. Sans Culotte: Ladybug, Chat Noir! Help the sans-culottes (plural!) to liberate Paris from its aristocratic Mayor!

Ladybug: Terror is not the solution!

Chat Noir: To get your voice heard there are the elections!

Ok, the word "terror" here is important. I had previously mentioned in my post on Felix's anarchist revolution that the French Revolution was followed by a period of violence where all those against the revolution were murdered. The name of the period is literally the Reign of Terror. We see that Ladybug's words is a reference to that.

Ladybug: (after receiving her lucky charm) Revolution, sans-culotte, and the Mayor of Paris who acts like the King?

The parallel is there. They're not even trying to be subtle. This is the retelling of the French Revolution.

Except that it doesn't turn out like the French Revolution. In the end, Mr. Bourgeois willingly steps down, Mlle. Sans Culotte rejects Monarch's powers (as in, she drops her weapons), so there is no revolution and no bloody reign of terror.

But still, the power dynamics end up shifting tremendously in the Miraculous Paris. How and why? I'll make a post specifically analysing this. Stay tuned for part two!

he tries so hard not to be jealous. so so hard; he doesn't want to be nor does he want to feel like it, but he cannot help it. chan gets really insecure at times. even if you tell him that he's perfect, he knows he isn't and there's nothing you can do about it. he has told you that, if you find better than him, he won't try to hold you back. instead, he'll vouch for your happiness. but honestly, chan cannot help but feel jealous when someone expresses interest for you. it could be as innocent as possible, he'll still get all up in his own head and feel awful.

even if he doesn't seem like it, minho strikes me as the casually jealous type. one thing that rubs him the wrong way and pushes all of his buttons is when someone comes up to you when he is right there and you engage in a friendly conversation with them. even if you might not realize that person is flirting with you, minho would get extremely annoyed. in those moments, he'd straight up just step away and let you do your thing until you feel like joining him again.

changbin ( 창빈 )

he loves to say he doesn't get jealous. and it's true, he doesn't, most of the time at least. however, much like everyone, some things are too much for him. changbin would get jealous over you choosing to hang out with someone else over him. call him childish, he doesn't care, it upsets him. he values his time a whole bunch and spending quality time with his s/o is one of the ways he shows love. so if you ended up choosing someone else to spend time with over him, he'd get beyond annoyed.

hyunjin ( 현진 )

now that guy; how do i put it—he's very jealous. he tries not to be! he really does. hyunjin knows how frustrating he can get at times and tries his best to not overthink. but, let's be honest, anything would send him over the edge. if he has made it clear that you both were together and someone still came too close and tried to make moves, he'd get pissed off, both at that person and you if you allowed it to happen. hyunjin always draws clear boundaries when in a relationship and he wants you to do the same.

han ( 한 )

again, not much of the jealous type. jisung doesn't care much and actually loves to make fun of people who feel jealous in relationship. he trusts you and never fails to tell you that. what he doesn't tell you however is that he cannot help but feel his heart crumble when you dish out compliments to everyone but forget about him. even if he tries to hide it, jisung craves for your validation. so, disregarding him that way would make him feel envious of those you compliment.

casually jealous, felix tries his best to get better at not showing it. but it's difficult, especially if your ex is still in the picture. felix doesn't understand why you'd still be friends with them. he'd get jealous if you hung out with that person, called them right in front of him and even more so if you went to meet them without him. he trusts you, yes, but he doesn't trust your ex.

another one who doesn't get jealous that often. he knows how to talk himself out of feeling insecure. one thing that would send seungmin spiraling however is if you were still friends with someone you were in a "situationship" with. he knows you're not together and you're not trying to do anything behind his back but he's not too sure about that friend of yours. he'd get all crabby when he catches you texting that person when you're hanging out together. after all, if that person was once interested in you, they might still feel the same way and try to make some moves.

though he tries his best to not feel that way, jeongin cannot help but get jealous whenever you take advice from everyone but him. he'd wonder why you listen to absolutely all your friends and acquaintances but seem to disregard every single one of his pieces of advice. he doesn't mean to force you to follow his lead, not at all, but it's the fact that you listen to other people that would make him feel uncomfortable.

Obviously as a joke, I don’t see him as the type to force people to watch him, I mean the dude barely posts, but this is a head-canon so I do sense joking/teasing if you miss a live.

How Skz reacts to you randomly tickling their sides

Chan

He was in the kitchen, washing up the dishes after dinner. You felt playful all day, jumping on him and doing everything to annoy him. He always reacts lightly because nothing ever pisses him off, but this time you tried something different. You walked up behind him slowly, getting your index and middle fingers ready to taser him. “Oh shi- What are you doing?” He jumped and jolted to the side, looking over his shoulder at the culprit. “Thought it would be funny.” You shrugged and stood behind him. “You have five seconds to run.” You instantly darted away to hide as he started wiping his hands dry with a towel.

Minho

He was stretching in bed like a cat, all vulnerable for you. You couldn’t help it, the way he closed his eyes so he couldn’t see what you were doing. Quickly acting before thinking, you jabbed his sides with your fingers. His arms immediately shot down, looking at you in complete betrayal. “Why?” Was all he said. You couldn’t stop laughing at his reaction. “I wanted to see how you would react.” You pointed out, getting up from the bed and scrambling away. “Yeah run away! I’ll get you later!” He shouted from the room.

Changbin

It never really crossed your mind whether he was ticklish or not. In a way, you didn’t want to find out incase he got you back even worse, but curiosity killed the cat this time. You simply walked up behind him as he was drying his hair, quickly digging your fingers into his sides. He almost dropped the hair dryer as he moved to the side. “Yah! What are you doing?” He laughed in shock and turned off the hairdryer. “I was curious if you were ticklish or not.” You giggled. “Yeah I am, are you?” He reached out for you but you ran away.

Hyunjin

You always watched the boys play fight and tickle each other, but it never came around about you tickling him. It was obvious he was so ticklish, so so sensitive. “Raise your arms quickly, I saw something on your shirt.” You lied and he abided subconsciously. Your fingers quickly found themselves at his sides, making his arms come down abruptly and almost hitting you in the face. “You little shit.” He laughed and wrapped his arms around your waist, getting his own payback.

Han

The two of you were wrestling in bed. He currently had you in a headlock and was smacking your ass playfully. “Han, if you don’t let go right now you’ll regret it!” You warned but he just laughed. “Tap out.” He repeated for the fifth time. Instead, you saw the opportunity of tickling his sides. Which you did, he immediately weakened and let go. “What sort of cheating tactic was that?” He laughed and climbed on top of you, pinning you down for karma.

Felix

You were sat on his back, giving him a massage after a long day of doing nothing. These were the best type of days where you just pamper each other. He sighed with relief, but you were feeling playful. You wanted to get him back for throwing flour in your hair earlier on whilst baking. The perfect opportunity was to tickle his sides. “Hey! I was nearly asleep.” He pouted and you laughed. “That’s payback for throwing flour in my hair.” You said and poked him again for a joke.

Seungmin

Pranks had been played on each other all week. It was now your turn and you could tell he was nervous for when you were going to strike. He was currently in the living room, playing a game on his phone when you snuck up behind him. You quickly reached over his shoulder and poked his sides from the front. He dropped his phone and lost in the game. “You better run now, you just made me lose.” He immediately got up and started to chase you.

Jeongin

You loved his laugh. Quite frankly, it was your favourite sound in the world. It was all you needed to hear today, slumping into the house from work. You wrapped your arms around his waist as he prepared dinner in the kitchen, and a thought slipped your mind. You laced your arms around tighter, quickly jabbing your fingers into his ribs. “Ah! Get off or I’ll get you back ten times worse!” He spoke after doubling over in laughter. Safe to say you ran away so fast.
