ED Book Review #4 You Remind Me of You
SUMMARY: Eireann Corrigan tells the true story of how she recovered from anorexia while her high school boyfriend recovered from a suicide attempt and how the situation brought them closer together and, ultimately, further apart.
REVIEW: I love this book more than I could EVER fucking say. Honestly I think all y’all should just go read it right now because I have no clue what else y’all could even do to understand. This book is one of the most impactful things ever in my life oh my God. I’ve made SO MANY people read it you don’t even know.
QUOTES
“you desired attention? Rescue. Attention didn’t always get things done.”-page 17
“So you knew you were losing weight rapidly? It never felt rapid.”-page 28
“You said Cory just told me he heard you promise you’d lose all the weight as soon as they let you out of the hospital. And I said Cory is a pothead who doesn’t even know me. Why would I say that out loud anyway? And you said That’s not an answer. And I said I don’t know what he’s talking about. So you said Swear to me. And I swore to you and I lied.”-page 45
“were you hopeful? I hoped that someone would let me die.”-page 58
“did you see yourself as powerless in your illness? I held my family hostage with my emerging ribcage. But slept on the heating grate and still could not keep myself warm.”-page 114

Tagged by @letkirillfight
Last song: Beat of the Music by Brett Eldredge, cute song to make you feel even more single than you already do, lol
Currently watching: Downton Abbey. Never seen it before, but my cousin had me watch a few episodes literally today, haha. Otherwise I’ve been rewatching The Office, Stranger Things, and plan on starting Friends in the near future.
Currently reading: The Believing Game by Eireann Corrigan. I haven’t really been able to read that much this summer, since the place I work at gets super busy in these months, but I’m trying my best, lol. Also if you like horror books and such this lady is such a good writer… I highly recommend her book Creep.
Current obsession: If waiting “patiently” for the hockey season to start again and missing my crazy little men was an obsession that’d be it, haha. Need to find something to be obsessed with alongside that, obsessions are fun, lol. Suggestions are open…
Never done one of these before, thanks for tagging me @letkirillfight , hope this is alright

Creep by Eireann Corrigan | Book Review
Creep by Eireann Corrigan | Book Review
Sometimes while reading, I like to be creeped out. So it seems like a book entitled Creep should do the trick. Unfortunately, Eireann Corrigan’s Creep fell rather short of expectations for me. In theory, this should have been an enthralling thriller. However, I struggled to stay engaged while reading this book. Creep by Eireann Corrigan is a young adult thriller about what happens when a new…

Creep, by Eireann Corrigan
This was a suspenseful novel about a girl who becomes friends with a family who moved into a her neighborhood. The reader is engaged all the way through as the friends try to figure out the mystery of 16 Olcott Place. Corrigan creates a thoroughly creepy mood, and the ending is clever. Some characters are a little bit uninteresting, but others arouse suspicion that keeps the reader guessing. Overall, Creep was a compelling novel with high levels of excitement.

here are TWENTY-FIVE CHARACTER QUOTES, all of which have clearly defined sources. i made this as a sort of “ shortcut “ for when you’re looking for a good, underused quote for a description for a theme or a head to a bio, or anything else. these are for inspiration purposes as well as admin purposes. they range in length and content. TW : death, alcohol, suicide, mental illness, blood, violence
WARSAN SHIRE.      at parties i point to my body and say this is where love comes to die. welcome, come in, make yourself at home. everyone laughs, they think i’m joking.
KURT VONNEGUT.      and lot’s wife, of course, was told not to look back where all those people and their homes had been. but she did look back, and i love her for that, because it was so human. so, she was turned into a pillar of salt. so it goes. people aren’t supposed to look back. i’m certainly not going to do it anymore. i’ve finished my war book now. the next one i write is going to be fun. this one is a failure, and had to be, since it was written by a pillar of salt.
RICK RIORDAN.      if my life is going to mean anything, i have to live it myself.
GILLIAN FLYNN.      you drink a little too much and try a little too hard. and you go home to a cold bed and think, that was fine. and your life is a long line of fine.
DONNA TARTT.      stay away from the ones you love too much. those are the ones who will kill you.
EMMA CLINE.      how they told me i was having fun all the time, and there was no way to explain that i wasn’t.
EIREANN CORRIGAN.      tomorrow, on those long sofas of group therapy, we’ll both claim we want to die. but we’ll mean: please someone convince us to stay around.
LOUIS XIV.      why do you weep ? did you think i was immortal ?
SABRINA BENAIM.      sure, i make plans, i make plans but i don’t want to go. i make plans because i know i should want to go ; i know sometimes i would have wanted to go ― it’s just not that fun having fun when you don’t want to have fun, mom.
MADELINE MILLER.      he is a weapon, a killer. do not forget it. you can use a spear as a walking stick, but that will not change its nature.
OSCAR WILDE.      time is jealous of you, and wars against your lilies and your roses.
SENECA.      sometimes even to live is an act of courage.
GUILLERMO DEL TORO.      you’ll meet her, she’s very pretty, even though sometimes she’s sad for many days at a time. you’ll see, when she smiles, you’ll love her.
RICHARD SIKEN.      sorry about the blood in your mouth, i wish it was mine. i couldn’t get the boy to kill me, but i wore his jacket for the longest time.
BENJAMIN ALIRE SAENZ.      one summer night i fell asleep hoping the world would be different when i awoke.
TERRY PRATCHETT.      a witch ought never to be frightened in the darkest forest, granny weatherwax had once told her, because she should be sure in her soul that the most terrifying thing in the forest was her.
RAHUL SINGH RATHOUR.      she was not fragile like a flower ; she was fragile like a bomb.
MARILYN MONROE.      dogs never bite me. just humans.
RICHARD SIKEN.      we have not touched the stars, nor are we forgiven, which brings us back to the hero's shoulders and the gentleness that comes, not from the absence of violence, but despite the abundance of it.
FRIDA KHALO.      i hope the leaving is joyful ; and i hope to never return.
MARGARET ATWOOD.      the desire to be loved is the last illusion. give it up and you will be free.
SUSANNA KAYSEN.      i told her once i wasn’t good at anything. she told me survival is a talent.
LOUISE GLÜCK.      i am tired of having hands, she said, i want wings ― but what will you do without your hands to be human ? ― i am tired of human, she said, i want to live on the sun.
WARSAN SHIRE.      you look nothing like your mother. you look everything like your mother. you desperately want to look like her. how to wear your mother’s lipstick. you must wear it like she wears disappointment on her face. your mother is a woman and women like her cannot be contained.
STEPHEN CHBOSKY.      you are not a sad story. you are alive.

Nora knows all she needs is her viral moment to break through. Then Laynee will see her, and will understand.
If life isn't going to give Nora entry into Laynee's world... well, then Nora's going to have to take matters in her own hands.

The Believing Game by Eireann Corrigan
A private academy. A cult leader. A girl caught in the middle. After Greer Cannon discovers that shoplifting can be a sport and sex can be a superpower, her parents pack her up and send her off to McCracken Hill-a cloistered academy for troubled teens. At McCracken, Greer chafes under the elaborate systems and self-help lingo of therapeutic education. Then Greer meets Addison Bradley. A handsome, charismatic local, Addison seems almost as devoted to Greer as he is to the 12 steps. When he introduces Greer to his mentor Joshua, she finds herself captivated by the older man's calm wisdom. Finally, Greer feels understood. But Greer starts to question: Where has Joshua come from? What does he want in return for his guidance? The more she digs, the more his lies are exposed. When Joshua's influence over Addison edges them all closer to danger, Greer decides to confront them both. Suddenly, she finds herself on the outside of Joshua's circle. And swiftly, she discovers it's not safe there.

Summer Bird Blue by Akemi Dawn Bowman
Rumi Seto spends a lot of time worrying she doesn’t have the answers to everything. What to eat, where to go, whom to love. But there is one thing she is absolutely sure of—she wants to spend the rest of her life writing music with her younger sister, Lea. Then Lea dies in a car accident, and her mother sends her away to live with her aunt in Hawaii while she deals with her own grief. Now thousands of miles from home, Rumi struggles to navigate the loss of her sister, being abandoned by her mother, and the absence of music in her life. With the help of the “boys next door”—a teenage surfer named Kai, who smiles too much and doesn’t take anything seriously, and an eighty-year-old named George Watanabe, who succumbed to his own grief years ago—Rumi attempts to find her way back to her music, to write the song she and Lea never had the chance to finish. Aching, powerful, and unflinchingly honest, Summer Bird Blue explores big truths about insurmountable grief, unconditional love, and how to forgive even when it feels impossible.

Do you know any other books like dare me?
Suicide Notes from Beautiful Girls comes to mind. I’m not going to rec anything else of Megan Abbott’s work and operate under the assumption you’re familiar with it, or at least familiar enough to know to seek it out through Dare Me. The Accomplice by Eireann Corrigan comes to mind, but I ain’t read that since middle school so I don’t remember for sure. Tbh though dude, I ain’t read like, novels in a long time. I’m in college so most of the books I read rn are academic and I write for pleasure far more often than I read for it.
Selah and the Spades is a movie that I think has a similar tone to Dare Me, if you’re interested in maybe watching something. It’s less homoerotic but tbh I  hardcore crossover ship Addy with Selah, I may have to write something...
