Habitat- Antarctica

Size (Weight/Length)- 40 kg; 120 cm tall

Diet- Fish; Krill; Squid

Cool Facts- The award for the best parents in the animal kingdom goes to the emperor penguin. During the dead of winter, emperor penguins waddle up to 120 kilometers away from the ocean to lay their singular egg. Thousands of penguins make up these mass breeding colonies, far from predators but also far from food. Temperatures fall to -40 Celsius and winds reach up to 144 kilometers per hour. Three centimeters of fat help to protect the penguins from the brutal weather and the combined body heat of penguin huddles can reach 37 Celsius in the center. Parents have to balance their egg on their feet, hidden from the chill by a flap of fat, due to the ground being lethal on contact for the unhatched baby. The other parent is forced to waddle back to the sea and swim up to 500 kilometers in search of enough food to feed themselves, their mate, and their chick upon hatching.

This black and white photograph from 1943 shows a wall of telephone equipment.  A line of about two dozen women telephone operators wearing headsets sit before the equipment connecting calls with wires that they plug into various exchange receptacles.  Two other women are standing behind the line of seated women, also working.  One is handing a note to a seated operator while another is talking into a headset.  Small plates with the name of a city on each are placed above the telephone exchanges at regular intervals.  Above the equipment is a sign listing cities in North and South America.

They were having as James liked to put it a lazy afternoon. Regulus hadn’t been required to return home this Christmas holiday. Due in part to him writing to Grimmauld Place and requesting he be allowed to stay at Hogwarts to continue studying for his O.W.Ls. And to his great surprise, his request had been granted. Walburga had sent a letter back commending him on his educational pursuits. ‘Most befitting of the Black heir.’ She’d said. As far as Regulus was aware legally Sirius was still the heir and would be until Regulus turned 18 and his father could change it. 

But anyway, for the first time in Regulus’s life he could do as he pleased and what he wanted to do was James Potter.

James had somehow managed to get the prefect’s bathroom to himself. He’d arrived before Regulus and filled the swimming pool-sized bath with lavender-scented water and mountains of dense bubbles. It smelt heavenly, making Regulus relax. 

James was already in the water, the only part of him visible was his face. 

“Hello, love.” His voice came through the wall of bubbles. Regulus noticed the pile of clothes in the corner. 

“Are you naked in there, Potter?” He wasn’t sure how much to take off before he joined him. 

“As a newborn babe.” He answered with a burst of laughter, sending a puff of bubbles floating into the air. The laugh displaced him and he sank. He came rushing back to the surface spluttering. His torso and head coated in bubbles. Regulus couldn’t help himself he fell to the floor rolling around in a fit of giggles. It was so unlike him, but James brought that side of him out, the softer, boyish side.

When he was done he looked over to James, wiping a tear from his eye. James was leaning against the side now, bubbles removed from his hair. “Are you done? You getting in now?” Regulus nodded, quickly stripped and disappeared into the warm water.       

They lazed about on the surface, gently bumping into each other. They must have been there for hours. Regulus didn’t think he’d ever wasted so much time doing nothing and he’d loved every second of it. 

Eventually, they had to get out, it was getting closer to dinner and though Regulus would never admit it, he was starting to get hungry. 

James hopped out first to grab two of the huge fluffy towels. He wrapped one securely around his waist before lowering a hand to Regulus. He took it, allowing James to help him out of the bath. 

There was still a bit of time before they had to leave and Regulus suddenly wanted to do something nice for James. He wrapped his own towel around his waist and reached up on his tiptoes to plant a kiss on James’s lips. Before James could deepen the kiss Regulus moved to kiss his jaw, trailing kisses down towards his neck. He lingered there nipping and sucking across the soft skin, making James emit little gasps of pleasure. He moved on to James’s chest, placing slow lazy kisses there and moving,
