Stranger Things and Netflix are trying to capitalize off the Holocaust.
No, this is not a joke. This is not a stretch of the imagination. And no, I’m not putting a read-more on this post because it deserves a full look-through. This is happening in Lithuania, right now, where Netflix has turned a former Nazi prison into a Stranger Things themed hotel.
Yes, you read that right. Just a quick Google search will confirm its existence. The Lukiškės Prison in Vilnius, Lithuania is a former Nazi prison. In a country that already tries to erase it’s involvement with the Holocaust (I’m still talking about Lithuania), this offense is particularly egregious.
Here’s the change.org petition that @chaosklutz sent me that first alerted me to this abhorrent, insensitive bullshittery: https://www.change.org/p/hold-netflix-and-stranger-things-accountable.
Copy-pasted below is the description from the petition.
It has come to the attention of the Jewish and Rroma community that the new season for Stranger Things was filmed in the Lukiškės prison in Lithuania. Though having functioned as a prison centuries before, it became notorious during WWII for it's Nazi involvement and the kidnapping, imprisonment, and torture of about 100,000 Jews, Rroma, and political prisoners.
To make matters worse, Stranger Things and Netflix have both agreed to turn Lukiškės into a fully functioning hotel, ran by Airbnb, where visitors can spend the night in themed cells, tour the Stranger Things themed building, and make waffles. The price ranges from about €104-114 a night and it was said to start it's function June 4th.
Fans of Stranger Things are now getting numerical tattoos on their arms because they are inspired by the show, the Stranger Things Instagram has even reposted photos their fans have submitted; thus encouraging their behavior. Not only does this mock the shared trauma of the Jewish and Rroma community, but it further desecrates the living memories of Holocaust survivors (a significant portion are alive today) and their descendants.
Lithuania is already known for their outright denial of their participation in the Holocaust and their allyship with the Nazis. Lithuania turned Seventh Fort, a concentration camp responsible for one of the worst mass killings in Lithuanian history, into a wedding venue. A Nazi prison where Jews, Rroma, and political kid prisoners were kidnapped, starved, imprisoned, and tortured is now a wedding venue.
We refuse to let this continue.
We, Jews and Rroma, call you to sign this petition and hold Stranger Things and Netflix accountable for their Holocaust erasure. Money earned from this season should be put back into the Jewish and Rromani communities of Lithuania as reparations for the damage this season is causing and a public apology from Airbnb, Netflix, and Stranger Things should be issued immediately with a full understanding as to how this adds to the erasure of the victims of the Holocaust and the ongoing persecution of Romani communities.  We also demand the immediate shut down of the Airbnb.
We will not be erased. The Holocaust is not for the entertainment industry to build wealth off of and turn into theatre. It is our genocide and for Rroma it is ongoing.
We hope to reach out to current Jewish and Rroma communities in Lithuania in hopes of help for accountability. Either way, sharing this petition, signing it, and donating to the Jewish and Romani organizations and charities below would be a great help! Thank you!

Hi! Can you help share this petition about the Zionist 🤡 professor at Columbia?

"Since a video of Columbia Business School Assistant Professor Shai Davidai delivering a speech accusing Columbia students of being “pro-terror” went viral on October 18, 2023, he has been using his newfound social media platform to bully pro-Palestine students of color with complete impunity despite being untenured. Under the guise of fighting antisemitism, he uses his Twitter and Instagram accounts to incite harassment and violence against these students."  "Shai’s usage of his social media platform to harass students is a clear violation of university policy and an abuse of power from a faculty member. Shai has claimed that any opposition towards him is “antisemitism”. The issue is not with Shai’s individual political beliefs, the issue is how he uses personal social media accounts to target, harass, and bully students, including Palestinian students who have lost family members in Gaza."
Ya'll PLEASE share and sign this petition -they are close to their 5K goal. When you click on the link, it lists what this zionist Columbia University Professor has done. I know I've spoken about him before and to emphasize again, this man is a DANGER to Palestinian/Arab/Muslim students.
Thank you for alerting me to this petition.
SHAI DAVIDAI MUST BE FIRED.

More than 1,000 Swedish artists have signed an open letter against Israel's participation in the music competition, including famed international acts like Fever Ray and Robyn, and contest veterans such as opera star Malena Ernman — who performed in the song competition in 2009 and is the mother of climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Sign the petition: stop Tumblr’s community labels from destroying community spaces
SIGN THE PETITION HERE!
TL;DR:  Community Labels have become the newest form of cyber harassment on Tumblr.com. While the system is suitable in its conceptual form, in practice it has been shown to actively harm the very communities it claims to be protecting. We submit this petition as a request to Tumblr.com to review their Community Labels system and effect change that protects one of – if not the – major attractions of this platform.
Community Labels were announced by Tumblr.com’s staff account on the 27th of September, 2022. Cited as a desire for users to “be able to fully express themselves while also having control over what they encounter on their dashboards”, this move is just one step of many that the social media platform has taken to regulate the presence of NSFW – an internet colloquialism that stands for ‘not safe for work’ – content, from fanart, images, GIFs, fan-fiction and more. This encapsulates a broad range of subject matter deemed hazardous for underage persons to interact with, including but not limited to violence, substance use and sexual themes. The set-up of this function coincides with all Tumblr blogs – both newly-made and existing – being set to ‘default’, in which all mature content is hidden unless these settings are manually adjusted. Indeed, it is an effective idea; Community Labels would, in theory, allow minors and adults to coexist in the same space without the eventuation of crossover, the consequences of which range from questionably moral to borderline unlawful.
In theory.
There is no doubt that Tumblr staff had the best of intentions in launching what is effectively a ‘child lock’ system. However, what has resulted from the rollout of Labels does not align with the intended purpose as outlined above. Across the platform, thousands of creators are experiencing what can only be described as a ‘weaponising’ of community labels; one of the key functions of this program allows other users to report content as ‘missing a Community Label’, and the subsequent application of these supposed ‘missing’ Labels is swift and often devastating. In a community that relies so heavily on engagement, the impact of labelling by its very nature prevents the uninformed user from viewing content that is often lovingly crafted over hours on end, ultimately intended for a wider audience to see and appreciate.
There are two major design flaws in Tumblr’s approach to a Community Labels system: one, that a large proportion of users are unaware of the platform’s decision to conceal labelled content as a default blog setting; and two, that there appears to be virtually no discrimination when it comes to the application of Labels to reported content. Most new arrivals to the platform are uninformed of the default setting, raising questions as to whether or not Staff have appropriately informed users of this change. But what is more concerning is the manner in which reported content is dealt with.
It has become custom for individuals to target content creators – due to a range of reasons, but often personal and inflammatory in nature – by mass-reporting their work. It seems that, due to the speed and inaccuracy in which Labels are applied, a certain threshold reached results in an automatic Label being added. Because of this, engagement with work that is key to facilitating the growth and development of fan spaces online is nosediving and content creators are reporting decreases in engagement across the site.
Community Labels have become the newest form of cyber harassment on Tumblr.com. While the system is suitable in its conceptual form, in practice it has been shown to actively harm the very communities it claims to be protecting. So, what should be done about this?
Here are some suggestions:
The default setting should only be applied to accounts that are under 18.
The default setting should be applied across all accounts, but this should blur posts rather than conceal them completely for users who are above 18 years of age.
More advertisement of this change should be made available to users, new and existing – pop-ups in account settings, inboxes, DMs, whatever can be reasonably effected to achieve this.
Remove the ability for other users to suggest Community Labels, or ban accounts who mass-report content across a period of time from accessing this function.
These are but some changes that could be made, and are by no means an exhaustive list of potential responses to this rising issue. But something must be done.
We, the content creators, the backbone of fandom spaces in the modern age, have had enough. It is already difficult to navigate social media as a person who puts their effort and hard work out for the public’s judgement; we do not also need to contend with this new form of persecution and censorship.
We submit this petition as a request to Tumblr.com to review their Community Labels system and effect change that protects one of – if not the – major attractions of this platform.

If the Sag Harbor School District fails to receive approval from voters on May 16th to acquire 4 acres of wooded lots on Marsden Street, the community urges the Village and/or Town officials to acquire the wooded lots for preservation, as they are some of the last wooded lots in the Historic District of the Village of Sag Harbor.
The Marsden site is a kettle hole, which is a natural basin created by glacial movements from approx. 20,000 years ago. This topographic depression currently absorbs great amounts of stormwater diverted from higher elevated areas around the village. If we lose this precious stormwater basin, we will experience newfound flood zones in neighboring properties.
There are many animal species we are concerned about that live within these wooded lots:
-North American Box Turtle -Eastern Spade Foot Toad -Northern Long Eared Bat -White Tailed Deer -Screech Owl -Great Horned Owl -Raccoon -Opossum
-Dragonflies (which are signs of a healthy ecosystem, especially water bodies)
and more!
Many healthy trees and plantlife currently reside on Marsden, pulling carbon from our air, and absorbing water from our ground:
-Black Oak -Black Cherry -Black Locust -Black Walnut -White Oak -White Poplar -One double trunk tree with a circumferance of 10 feet -Red Maple -Red Cedar -Scarlett Oak -Norway Maple -Script Lichen -Beard Lichen and many more.
Imagine revitalizing a former kettle hole into a pond (to complete the Long Pond Greenbelt), creating a serene pathway for the community and students of the neighboring school to use as a close-proximity connection to nature. The school could even use this preserved site for their science classes!
The Marsden Street Lots do not need to be developed. Sign this petition to show your support for preservation of the last wooded lots in Sag Harbor's Historic District.

DISCORD'S NEW UI IS HARMFUL TO USERS!! Discord's new mobile UI is inaccessible and downright dangerous to it's mobile users. It has caused me severe migraine headaches and sensory overwhelm so severe that I can't use the mobile app anymore because there are no low contrast options. The images flicker when loaded, and could end up causing seizures for people who are photosensitive. The app is now also extremely hard to navigate, confusing for everyone, and even crashes screen readers, meaning people who use them literally just cannot message their friends on discord anymore. This NEEDS to change, URGENTLY. Many disabled people, mentally ill people and otherwise vulnerable people rely on messaging apps like discord because they cannot leave their houses or socialize in other ways for a variety reasons. Send support tickets, sign the petition, share this post and other posts like it. THEY CANNOT JUST IGNORE THE NEEDS OF DISABLED AND OTHERWISE IMPAIRED INDIVIDUALS.
