leon s. kennedy/luis serra, other gen | E/M | 45718 words | finished
If anyone asked Leon whether getting laid in an grossly extravagant gothic-era European castle was anywhere near the top of his priorities list, even prior to the Baby Eagle rescue mission, he’d laugh in their face. ///
Even if he did fantasize about mildly exibitionistic sexual encounters in extravagant Spanish castles, in none of these scenarios would Leon have thought to find himself cuddling with the other person.
[part 1 - love full of fire] /// [part 2 - even if it hurts] /// [part 3 - those three words] /// [part 4 - when Eden was lost] /// [part 5 - make my world stop] /// [part 6 - sweetness and decay]

But for all the Sovereign was dreadful, with it's moods bordering on beastial in nature it's counterpart was worse. For the drake Hoarfrost oft took to observing him, with eyes too cunning to belong to anything but a man.
the targs just hate to see a girlboss and her morally bankrupt human counterpart winning smh
[insert uses it/it's, hoarfrost uses she/her. insert also got it's top surgery done via dragon. Probably]
+ a version with a lighter bg under the cut for readability

What's wrong w/hydroelectric?/gen
i mean. the thing is that’s there’s no perfect source of energy and ultimately every possibility has its pitfalls. dams are extremely destructive to river ecosystems, but once they’re in, they keep providing power. but particularly in the US, and the western US, which is where i’m from, dams are a really significant colonial tool. i grew up near the columbia, which is one of the most dammed rivers out there. for the Indigenous peoples of the area, the river is and has always been a huge cultural and economic factor: the phrase “water is life” isn’t just about the water itself. there are stories about the columbia and the elwha rivers from before the dams that talk about being able to walk across the river on the backs of the salmon. because salmon migrate back to the ground where they spawned in order to lay eggs, dams like the grand coulee cut them off: the salmon can’t pass. salmon are a keystone species in this area. the loss of salmon has an incalculable impact on the entire ecosystem.
the salmon are also, and always have been, one of the staples of the Native diet around here. northwest Native peoples have been some of the only sedentary hunter-gatherer peoples in the world. that’s not 100% down to the salmon, but the salmon are a major factor. the dalles dam, on the columbia, also wrought really horrific cultural destruction: when they put it in, they drowned celilo falls, which had been (iirc) the oldest continuously inhabited site in north america. there was a town, there was a cemetery, there were petroglyphs and the scaffolding that had been used to fish, and the dam drowned all of that. celilo was a massive trade hub. the elwha dams drowned the sacred creation site of the Klallam people, as well as cutting off the salmon.
this documentary frankly doesnt cover the Indigenous perspective enough imo, but it does include it at least some. it sorta glosses over the violence that must have been involved in the building of the dam, but its still a good coverage of the process of undamming a river. I almost cried watching it.
i hope this answers your question! my dad recommends the death of celilo falls by katrine barber and the organic machine by richard white for further reading. i recommend "the powwow at the end of the world" by sherman alexie.
