OC vs A Cockroach
Lol! I saw this come across my dash before and it got a chuckle out of me, now I get to hopefully give a chuckle back.
Thank you to the wonderful @forthesanityofstorytellers for the tag
I tag: @asterhaze @gummybugg @garthcelyn @moonluringfrost @mysticstarlightduck and really anyone else who'd like in!
Rules: rate your ocs on how well they’d fare against a cockroach
So I'll not be doing the employees from Rituals and Red Tape for this go around, instead, it'll be The Board!(At least a handful of them) Because I think that'll be funny to think about. Mind you, The Board are extradimensional beings close to if not entirely gods.
Dave: 0/10 this mf'er would be so dead set on having this bug obey him he'd work himself into a tizzy. It is a quiet tizzy but one nonetheless. He'd get so fed up he would rush summon Alex to his pocket dimension to personally take care of the "offending creature". At which point they(Alex) would sigh and pick the roach up and carry it away from Dave. He would consider this a 10/10 but the man outsourced his labor.
Frank: 6/10 This new thing would be of great interest to Frank. I like it is the same roach from before and has now found it's way into Archives somehow. Perhaps Alex dropped it off? Either way, the enigmatic Frank would study this thing for a time, watching how it moves, what it eats. In fact he might become so interested with it that he would confine it to an ornate terrarium of some variety. Locked away from anyone but himself to view and ponder. Though when he would go to describe this new creature to anyone he would find more resistance than usual to get his point across thus going to the roach, and shoving (literally) it into the face of the dreamer he was communing with. At which point, the roach scurries away.
The Keeper: 2/10 Same roach. They would be quite intrigued like Frank was but more so in an attempt to understand how a thing like this could survive as it does. They would whip up some new kind of creature to combat it. It would lose for some reason, to which Keeper transports the creation to somewhere else (much to the quiet bemoaning of the wildlife employee who has to go now deal with it). More and more blood trials are conducted, the roach coming out on top each time SOMEHOW. When Keeper tries to alter the roach in some way, it skitters away once more. For a moment Keeper is upset, but soon they go back to crafting less focused creations.
Hivemaster: 9/10 She would try and pull this same (poor) roach into her collective, another mind for the hive. It doesn't really work because...I mean come on it's a roach. So she crushes the thing under one of her many legs and skitters away herself. The roach is then able to patch itself up and go about it's business.
HR: -5/10 He is terrified of it. Not only does HE run away but he manages to stumble into Frank's domain and gets the living tar beat out of him (they are siblings have while HR is more on the slippery fake kind end, Frank is ready to throw hands at the drop of the hat).
Unemployment: 11/10 There is nothing left of the roach. The roach is no longer even on this same plane of existence. Information of the roach or even what a roach is, vanishes from the public's minds. There are no such thing as roaches. Never have been.
What a fun tag game!

What would you recommend to someone thinking about starting with swtor in this day and age?
Huh that's actually a really good question, and it probably doesn't help that I've not been active for the last two years (they made some fairly substantial gameplay changes to the combat that I didn't like the sound of on paper, I have no personal experience with how it's played out and whether folks think it worked out well in the long term)
I'll put this under a cut to spare people's dashes, and if any friends have their own recommendations based on current gameplay and gearing PLEASE feel free to chip in:
The game has free to play options, and in theory it's entirely possible to play up to the fourth (fifth?) expansion without paying a cent. I don't necessarily think it's particularly as fun as it could be on F2P, because obviously they make things just that little bit more frustrating to try and coax you into spending money, but it's not bad. Just a little slower to progress. And really, if you're not sure if you want to invest in the game (time or money wise), downloading the F2P is a good trial move, because the base game is hands down superior to most of the expansions
There are 8 possible origin stories to choose from - four Republic aligned, and four Imperial aligned. Despite stylistically being the same 4 classes, the story telling has always been the strength of the game and the 8 original classes are all fantastic in their own ways. Admittedly, ask 8 people what they think the best or worse class story is and you'll get 8 different answers. I personally rank the Smuggler (a Han Solo-esqye self insert) as my least favourite, but I've got plenty of friends who think it's the best story. I would die for my Jedi Knight but I think the writing from the story is pretty outrageously bad in places. The Sith Warrior class story changed my life. So did the Imperial Agent, but again, I know people who think they're overrated. Just go with your heart and see what appeals to you when it introduces the class options
There are nine packs that I would consider expansions (more if you include mini gameplay expacs that introduced things like starfighter combat, they always have little brief story quests to explain their origin):
Rise of the Hutt Cartel (adds planet Makeb)
The Dread War (adds planet Oricon, technically a continuation of RotHC but different enough in scope that I would count it as separate)
Shadow of Revan (adds two planets, Rishi and Yavin 4)
Rise of the Emperor (adds planet Ziost, technically a continuation of SoR like TDW was for RotHC)
Knights of the Fallen Empire
Knights of the Eternal Throne
Fractured Alliances (technically a continuation of the last two, but adds Iokath as a playable area)
Onslaught (adds three planets Ossus, Onderon, Mek'Sha)
Legacy of the Sith (have not played so not sure!)
KotFE and KotET moved away from planetary expansions and did chaptered missions, so you couldn't visit the areas of the story unless you replayed the chapter, which was a pain if you enjoyed just running around exploring. Technically we got new planets Zakuul, Odessen and Iokath in those expansions, and Iokath did eventually introduce daily missions and explorable areas, but it wasn't the most popular addition to the canon
I personally enjoy KotFE and KotET because of the amount of time I invested in telling my character's stories in that time period, but I think that Shadow of Revan/Rise of the Emperor had the more compelling storytelling and gameplay. Rishi is for sure my favourite planet in the game, although Onderon comes close and I'm sure Zakuul would've won if we got more ability to just run around and explore
Basic gameplay is pretty straight forward if you've ever played an RPG or MMO before. It's entirely possible to play the vanilla stories without ever needing to play any group content, and you can just treat it like a solo player game with some extra fidgety NPCs in the background of your scenes and pretend they aren't other players. The group content - flashpoints (4 players) and operations (8 or 16 players)- are for the most part pretty great, and a lot of their stories bring more clarity to the main game. As the game gets into the expansions, they start introducing solo player flashpoints which then become the chaptered mission when you get to KotFE.
You also get access to companions right from your first planet, which is great! Every class starts with 5 companions, and that number grows as you get into the expansions. Some of the companions can be romanced, although unfortunately everyone was straight-gated up until Shadow of Revan. After that, earlier companions have occasionally been rewritten to be available to all genders, but not all of them which is frustrating at times. The relationships you build with the companions - whether it's romance or friendship or intense loathing - is genuinely such a great feature of the game, and it's something the later expansions have suffered from, not having your core team around you anymore.
SPEAKING OF, I WILL WARN YOU UP FRONT, SHAE IS NOT A ROMANCE OPTION :P I just don't happen to believe in being restricted to canon when it comes to these sorts of things. She's an NPC, and you can flirt with her now and then in the later expacs, but she's not smoochable.
I can't comment on the current combat system, or the current gearing system, as I've been out of active play for the last few years (ESO got me good) but I hear they've worked out some of the kinks from the revamp. I wasn't overly thrilled with it, as I've played fairly consistently since launch and this was going to be about the fifth complete overhaul of the combat and gearing since launch and after going to the trouble of getting all your characters the best gear multiple times only to be told you have to start from scratch AGAIN wears a little thin after awhile. But! If you're not planning on hardcore raiding, gearing changes shouldn't be that much of an issue
The housing system is fun but there's no real way to decorate well without pumping a lot of your own money into the game which is shitty. I've seen the light in ESO's crafting and being able to craft my own furniture is game-changing
Space combat is a nightmare. My spatial awareness becomes non-existent once I have to steer in a three dimensional space. I have one friend who loves it and used to play constantly but I couldn't ever get used to it
PVP is eh. I've had more fun in PVP in other games, but it's not bad.
The crafting system is fun, but unless you're making your own healing packs or dyes, its not really worth much. Sending your companions off on crafting missions can be fun though, as they come with teensy little snippets of lore and some of them are funny or intriguing. It can get expensive real fast though
The only thing I would caution against is that they've made some fairly unpopular changes just in the last month regarding the cost of quick travel to try and rein in the bloated in-game economy and it seems to have been implemented poorly and unfairly effects low to mid tier players as opposed to the high end players
If you have any questions after all of that, let me know! AND GOOD LUCK!!!

just rambling about my favorite tav below
She has a bad habit of casting feather fall and jumping off things especially during combat but they forget it only lasts for a minute and Astarion keeps having to catch (revive) her when they plummet to the ground bc he's the rogue and they only one w enough movement speed to get to her
Tavirr (not her real name) is the youngest daughter of Quenthel, 6th child out of 7, with one younger brother who is like 12, and she loves him very much. And she didn't want to flee her home but she did immediately after hesitating during her trial bc she knew Lolth would send someone after her. And she's convinced the tadpole is what's blocking lolth's assassins ability to know her location. So early on she is the only other person, aside from Astarion, who doesn't want to immediately be rid of it once they realize they aren't turning.
To top it off, right before the mindflayer abduction she saw a *presence* of eilistraee for the first time and she's slowly been struggling with her faith. What if Lolth isn't worth it? What if she moved on? And it's only getting reinforced bc Shadowheart and Lae'zel going through what they do.
When i created her backstory (back in like patch 3) i had no idea it was going to be such a good narrative foil to Astarion. He's quick to anger and she's fucking impassive as hell. he's known nothing but trauma for 200 years while she's been pampered royalty. he's stunned by receiving a hug, she's going crazy missing intimacy after killing her spouse for her 5th trial. he's secretly insecure, she secretly thinks she could be a better god than lolth. He's an "oldest sibling" she's the baby of the baenre girls. Astarion's considering doing cazador's ritual to become *the* most powerful vampire in the realms, she's contemplating using the netherese crown to become a god so she can kill lolth out of revenge.
She was also trying to manipulate Astarion into an alliance i.e. sex for protection. But feelings become a problem. And she's actually invested in killing cazador now but she's fairly certain Astarion won't help her kill Lolth and fully expects him to go his own way once all is done.
this also literally decided she was going to romance him in early access when i fought the goblins and dror ragzlin sparta kicked her into the spider pit. (the nerve? the audacity? she's a fucking baenre?) but anyway it triggered the spider dialogue, she convinced the spiders she was lolth, but then acid damage knocked her out and Astarion was the only party member who could reach her via a combo of the mobile feat, bonus action dash and boots of speed. and bc of this silly game mechanic i decided it was very romantic
And the ascendant ritual! Oof. She was kind of hoping he would just do it.
BUT he didn't go through with the ritual?! so i imagine tav was like "Tell all the spawns to go to Menzoberranzan and ask for Myrinel, tell them Ryna sent you" which probably prompts Gale to be like "um excuse me? Myrinel Baenre?" bc gale reads books so he's probably heard of her, and Tav's like "yes she's my oldest sister." and that's how the rest of the gang finds out she's basically the fucking princess of Menzoberranzan
she's totally not feeling guilty or in any way responsible for all these spawn and not wondering if astarion *should* have done the ritual bc she thinks this vampire ascendant thing sounds like it could have helped her kill lolth and take her place with the help of the crown.
And she's still grieving like her spouse died (was killed by her, on lolth's orders) less than a month ago by the time she wakes up on the beach. She thinks she failed her 5th trial bc she hesitated on killing them, but she didn't actually fail it and her crisis of faith is entirely her own making, and she actually has lolth's favor, meaning there never were assassins after her. And she's gonna have to either take the crown and go apeshit or, or, she could move on... But that's terrifying

Forspoken - Best ARPG developed by Luminous Production
Forspoken has been considered one of those gaming titles exactly where I was cautious right from the start. The concept was intriguing as it would be my sort of genre. However, the tiniest bit of gameplay that was shown caused me to pump the brakes somewhat. After an extremely disappointing trial, I used to be prepared for disappointment. This didn't take time, but when I finally got into the overall game, I came to discover that I was completely incorrect.
Story
Tumblr media
Following the narrative, the video game follows Frey Holland, who is transported from New York to the land of Athia after trying to take an amusing Cuff. She then finds herself in the middle of a war that has been tearing the kingdom apart through an unimaginable force often known as "The Corruption," twisting the animals, people, and terrain of the entire kingdom into nightmare-like, broken versions of their own.
Tumblr media
Combat
The fight is extremely enjoyable and enjoyable, with Tanta's battles with bosses being the absolute highlights, but I would have preferred more movement. Flow's use is determined by your stamina meter, as exemplified by the diamonds just above the wellness pub. You need to keep watch over the meter in the battle to ensure people don't get caught with no ability to escape, but it's also noteworthy to keep track of it while traveling across the globe. The moment you initiate Flow, it will cost you one gem for each time you press the switch and use up another after a short time (when Frey dashes somewhat again). You can readjust this timer by interacting with the surroundings, just like when auto-jumping over a small obstacle. There is a lot of energy from the launch and even fewer steps to reestablish it, so when anyone's running out, you'll have to run to recover. Our website is the best place to buy cheap New PS4 games.
Tumblr media
Graphics
Visually, Forspoken is a treat. You'll find three graphics game modes you could use, or six if you're playing with the latest TV or monitor. Performance mode is the "worst," while high-quality mode has by far the most detail while dropping the frames per second in certain instances. Hurry up, cheap PS4 racing games are on the market. In between these two modes is the ray tracing system mode, which provides the most efficient lighting while still preserving the features of the quality mode. If you are hooked up to a monitor that can handle 120 refresh rates, you can toggle this off or on for each illustration mode likewise. I had this turned on during my own time playing Forspoken, and turning off the feature was a very jarring wisdom as the frames per second slowed to an absolute halt. In any case, whatever game mode you play in, it's hard to notice the difference in precision when you play the recreation because things are so fast you're barely able to figure out if there's additional aliasing happening with some of the vegetation that is visible in the distance.
Tumblr media
Sound design and music
The sound and music raise the book's overall adventure just as much. From softer, more catchy beats to explosive orchestral arrangements mingled with singing choirs, the soundtrack is the perfect accompaniment to the snarling of the creatures and humans.
Tumblr media
Bottom Line
Forspoken is an impressive new IP. It has its fair share of challenges, but the more time you spend in Athia Forspoken, the more its world entices you with its fascinating combat system and, additionally, the pure pleasure of honestly crossing vast environments that are enthralling. Luminous Productions is undoubtedly onto something with that one, but it needs much more focus and sophistication. At the very least, Forspoken attests to its worth in its own right and reflects its potential to one day be a part of Square Enix's main franchises.

Trigger Witch (Demo) (Xbox One) Review
Tumblr media
This demo was a pleasant surprise and got me to buy the full game right after playing it. The story follows a young woman named Colette, who is about to graduate from "The Stock",  an academy for witchcraft and triggery. She lives in a world where magic has been around along time and has been mostly forgotten in the modern age, seemingly due to a new rift that appeared in the forest, giving magic guns to whomever it deems worthy.  The demo will take you through the introductory story where you get to explore your house and hometown, meet several characters and then go on to your big graduation trial which serves as the game's tutorial before the demo ends. The graphics and music are lovely with lots of detail and the characters are all likable. The game has a set of difficulty options you can choose form, but it also has the neat feature of letting you adjust individual parts of the difficulty to fine tune it(though the parts are only represented by images, which left me just having to guess at what they represented).  Once you get into combat of the tutorial mode it flows quite smoothly. I started getting back into the mindset of playing Hotline Miami due to the top-down shoot em up game-play, although Trigger Witch is definitely a more merciful game as it allows you to take multiple hits and also heal during combat (as long as you have enough health energy in stock from defeating enemies). As you progress through the training area, you'll also learn how to solve puzzles and use some of the still-known magic spells, such as your dash spell which lets you move quickly and dodge threats. All-together, this makes for a nice mix of adventure gameplay and challenging shooter action all wrapped up in a interesting game world. So in short: Female protagonist that isn't just another walking boob-factory? Positive, heroic representation of Witches? Cute Zelda-style graphics and music? Badass magic guns? Customizable difficulty settings to make the game super accessible? AND you can pet dogs? Hell yeah, I recommend trying the demo, and if the full game is just as good, that too!

[Review] Shu (PSVita)
Tumblr media
This platformer is a right charmer.
Still working through my library of Vita-compatible PSN games, Shu is one of those games that just caught my eye while browsing the sales page one day. A relatively early release from British indie studio Coatsink, the trailer gave me some Rayman Origins vibes which was enough to hook me instantly. The game itself is not quite as ambitious as that but was enough to delight me for a few hours.
Tumblr media
While the inspiration seemed obvious to me, the gameplay is a little more minimalist than the new Rayman games. Your main actions are just to move, jump, and glide, without much momentum management. There is the brilliant companion feature though, where Shu's fellow villagers pop up to help him out. Each world features two who will run alongside you holding hands (so cute!) and grant you a new ability, be it a double jump, water running, wall jump, a dash, or some other interaction with a level gimmick. This culminates in the final gauntlet level that cycles you through all of them in a row.
Tumblr media
Although the game features "only" 15 levels, each one is packed with obstacles and collectibles. There's no combat or boss fights, but you do sometimes have to run from a sentient storm and its gaping mouth, which can get pretty tense. Unfortunately they did implement a lives system (not having taken on board the freedom of Rayman Origins' removal of this mechanic), but it actually works like Little Big Planet: each checkpoint tops you up to five lives, with no other way to increase your total. The game doesn't need lives, but it was interesting since I haven't seen anyone else use the particular system LBP did.
Tumblr media
With its stylised hand-drawn characters on top of lovely 3D environments, Shu makes a strong impression. The character designs in particular are just so charming. I was glad there was a hub level that lets you try out their abilities and view some concept art for each. The game is also good about communicating gameplay notions visually which is important in the chase scenes or time trials.
Tumblr media
Shu is just a pleasant time all the way through, with only a few pain points in certain later levels. The different worlds have distinct styles and the companion characters help change up the gameplay too, with nothing overstaying its welcome. The field of view is just right, although playing on the Vita the characters and interactables seem tiny... but I actually like that a lot as a style! I'm glad I took a chance on Shu because it charmed the trousers off me; spiffing.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Review - A Royal Resurgence - Game Informer
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/prince-of-persia-the-lost-crown-review-a-royal-resurgence-game-informer/
Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown Review - A Royal Resurgence - Game Informer
Tumblr media
The Prince of Persia series has a long and storied history going back decades, and I know none of it. The latest, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, from developer Ubisoft Montpellier, has me regretting that because if this game indicates what else awaits me in the franchise, I’ve clearly been missing out. The Lost Crown uses exhilarating platforming, a deep combat loop, and more to create a new Metroidvania classic. While I would like a more compelling story and a few tweaks to its systems, I struggled to put The Lost Crown down, taking my gameplay sessions into the late hours of the night. The Lost Crown is a fascinating and highly successful reemergence for the beloved series.
Tumblr media
Notably, you do not play as the Prince of Persia in The Lost Crown; instead, you control Sargon, one of the seven Immortals, elite warriors who protect Persia, its Queen Thomyris, and the titular Prince Ghassan. However, Ghassan is kidnapped, sending the Immortals to Mount Qaf, where a labyrinthian adventure awaits Sargon and friends. The entire game takes place here, and by the end of my 21-hour adventure, I intimately knew its various biomes, secrets, shortcuts, and safe havens. One of my favorite parts of The Lost Crown was watching the foggy map of Mount Qaf reveal itself as a series of connected hallways, hidden chambers, and platforming puzzle playgrounds, in part because exploring all of it was an absolute treat. However, I would have liked a better fast-travel system, and sometimes there’s too much backtracking.
On current-gen consoles, The Lost Crown runs at a smooth-as-butter 120 frames per second, with a 4K resolution to boot. I’m not the biggest fan of its art style, which features gorgeous backdrops and painterly environments but playdough-esque characters, but it’s hard to deny how good it all looks in motion.
The Lost Crown stands tall, if not above in most instances, to some of the genre’s best. Combat starts simple, with a heavy emphasis on parrying, but grows into a deep system of extended ground attacks, air combos, projectile combo extenders, fast dash-kicks, and more. Amulets with special properties, like increased melee damage or frost resistance, for example, are hidden throughout, further adding to the customization of your Sargon. Athra Surges use special energy built up through combat and they can shift the weight of an encounter in an instant. And to round out the toolkit, Sargon collects time powers throughout the journey, which grant him powerful abilities for use in combat and exploration.
Tumblr media
Like the various puzzles of Mount Qaf, every encounter presents its own predicament; I had to think fast and attack faster to take down new enemies with moves I hadn’t seen. And bosses are the combat’s crème de la crème. Each boss capped off the learning experience The Lost Crown put me through in the preceding hours, requiring the use of every tool in my arsenal (and every healing flask, too). I welcomed new boss fights, even after the fifth attempt on some of its most challenging.
The same can be said for its platforming. Quick respawning and instant resets carve out the worst parts of platformers, leaving a trial-and-error experience that remains highly rewarding throughout the game. A tough-as-nails platforming section that requires perfect precision might lead you to a rare currency that helps you strengthen Sargon’s swords, a special petal that increases his total health, or even a miniboss; I was never disappointed with what awaited me, a critical component to an enriching Metroidvania experience.
With a robust suite of accessibility options, like the ability to adjust the parry window timing, increase or decrease how much health you take on hits (and how much enemies take from yours, too), and portals that let you skip platforming sections, you can fine-tune The Lost Crown to be the experience you want. It’s a commendable effort and speaks to Ubisoft’s Montpellier’s innovation in this ever-growing genre. Being able to quickly attach a Memory Shard, which acts like an in-universe screenshot, to the massive map makes keeping track of what you can and can’t do at any moment a breeze. Coupled with various pins you can attach to the map, it’s a feature set I want in every game like this moving forward.
Tumblr media
The story, despite some twists and turns that genuinely surprised me, fell into the background too often, and I struggled to understand why I was going here or there beyond the objective marker on my screen. But this and its few other issues did little to hamper my enjoyment.
The Lost Crown makes it hard to put the controller down, constantly urging players to follow its paths just a little further. Following its persistent pull to explore more of Mount Qaf is easy, though, thanks to how good it feels to do so. Between its first-rate platforming and engaging combat and progression, The Lost Crown’s various parts coalesce into a sublime loop. Gameplay is king, and this Prince of Persia understands that.

Game Clearing 2023: A Retrospective
Once again, it's time to look a back at everything I played.
Tumblr media
As always, I will talk more about each one after the cut.
Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure : Jan 3 - Jan 5
I've played the original PS1 Crash games countless times, and I've always wondered how the GBA games compared (the platformer ones at least). And over all, I'd say they're pretty decent at recreating the gameplay. However, there's one big issue that does occur a couple times. Sometimes, you'll have to do a leap of faith and you just have to hope you fall properly. What's worse is that sometimes there's an enemy there, so I started mashing spin after every leap of faith. This still sucks for time trials. But at least there's an actual reward for getting relics, other than a gem. I also ended up cramping my left hand from constantly holding down the L button to dash, so that's something.
Shadows Over Loathing: Jan 6 - Jan 11
This was actually a gift from my good friend Mippy, although I would have bought it anyway. I've watched a playthrough of the previous game, West of Loathing, and I was really looking forward to this installment. I found the story very enjoyable, and chuckled quite a few times. I also really liked the combat and RPG mechanics. I did consider going for every Steam achievement, but not only would that require multiple playthroughs, but some things are very easy to lock yourself out of, requiring either a guide or another playthrough. This is also why I typically don't go for completing achievements.
Donkey Kong: Jan 13 - Jan 13
Last Christmas, I had purchased Mario Vs. Donkey Kong. But before I played that, I wanted to check out the game often thought as its prequel, Game Boy Donkey Kong. And honestly, it's a really good time. All the sideflips and handstand jumps make the movement in this game really fun. The varying worlds also keep you on your toes. It's also not too hard; you will die a couple times, but the bonus games means you're probably not gonna game over.
Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc: Jan 14 - Jan 27
This was one of two gifts I got from my Secret Santa last year. Thank you so much, Bilth. After playing Rayman 2, I knew I had to check out the follow-up. And, other than the AV cables for my PS2 dying, it was pretty fun. Generally, I would say the game is about as fun as Rayman 2, and I can see why people prefer that to this. I thought the new powers were pretty cool, and most of them played off of Rayman's base moves well. Now I can't wait for Rayman 4!
Mario Vs. Donkey Kong: Jan 14 - Jan 20
After really enjoying GB DK, I was excited to try out this game, and I was… mildly satifsied. I found the first couple worlds to be just as fun as the original game, but then the plus worlds came in. Instead of getting a key to a door and then saving Mini-Mario, you instead have a Mini-Mario with a key you need to escort to the door. The problem with this is that Mini-Mario will always try to get to you no matter what's in the way, except in some cases, but it's really hard to tell when he stops and when he'll throw himeself into spikes or lava. Leading to a lot deaths that don't feel like your fault. Still, it's kind of a shame that future Mario Vs. Donkey Kong games basically became Lemmings, instead of refining this platforming gameplay. Also, in case you're wondering about the Expert world, that would require me to go through most of the levels all over again for a high score, and I can't be bothered to do that.
Super Mario Bros: Peach's Adventure: Feb 4 - Feb 8
I've played a lot of Pokemon hacks, so it was only time till I tried out a Mario hack. And with Super Mario World alone having thousands, if not tens of thousands of hacks, I had a lot of choices, but I had heard good things about this hack, and I have to agree. The levels are great, the music is awesome, and the secrets were fun to find, especially that Special World. I would definitely recommending checking out this hack.
Pokemon Crystal Clear: Feb 8 - Feb 17
This has been regarded as one of the best Crystal hacks, and I can definitely see why. Imagine if you could start from anywhere, get any pokemon, and fight the Gym Leaders in any order; including Kanto. That is what Crystal Clear set out to do and really excels at. Honestly, if you're like me, and wanting to play Crystal again, but with some small tweaks to keep it interesting, I'd say to try this out right now. I'd even say it's worth more than one playthrough, to see what happens with a different order…
Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced: Feb 24 - Mar 2
After healing my hand, I returned to try out the second Crash Bandicoot GBA game. And I do think it's a bit better than the first game, for the most part. It's a lot like Warped, where they added a lot of vehicle levels with Coco and Crunch, and some vehicle sections in Crash's levels. I do think the level design is overall better than Huge Adventure, with a lot less leaps of faith. Which sounds like it would make the time trials easier… except that gold is not good enough. If you want your save file to be 101%, you basically need all platinum relics. Which I did not do, cause as it turns out the relics don't get you anything. No new levels, no new gems, you don't even need them to fight N. Tropy, as you actually need the hidden color gem shards instead. Honestly, I would say to completely ignore the time trials if you want to play this game, unless you want to go platinum.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land: Mar 3 - Mar 10
With so many hours spent in Super Star Ultra, I'm surprised I've never played RtDL until now. And not long before I started playing, a remake has come out! Oh well. I still found this game to be very enjoyable. Generally breezy, but does have some challenge if you do decide to go for 100%. And the Extra Mode didn't feel repetitive either. Part of me wishes I could have played through this with a friend or two, but it's still great in singleplayer.
Pokemon Coral: Mar 12 - Mar 17
This is another hack that, since I first saw it, I knew I had to try it out. And, even though it's just a demo, it quickly became one of my favorites. I think what separates this from other Pokemon hacks is that is really does feel like a Pokemon game GameFreak could have back in the day. It was a fun romp, and the few secrets I did fine were very cool. I look forward to future demos and a full release whenever they come out! Also, if I had a nickle every time a little girl turned out to be very threatening, I'd have two nickles, which isn't a lot but it's funny it happened twice.
Viewtiful Joe 2: Mar 18 - Mar 31
With the first game setting up a sequel hook, I felt it appropriate to play through the sequel this year. And… it's alright. I would say it's on par with the first game. I did find Sylvia to be neat, although I did not play as her much except when a puzzle required her abilities, if only because I was more familiar with Joe. Honestly, the only real low point with the game would have to be same as the first game, which is the boss rematches. This is largely because of the bosses being such damage sponges that each one can take several minutes to beat. Aside from that, it was an enjoyable ride. It's a shame this game also ends on a cliff-hanger, and there wasn't a Joe 3. The closest would be Red Hot Rumble, which is more multiplayer-focused, and Double Trouble, which I have heard mixed things about.
Kirby's Dream Land 3: Apr 5 - Apr 6
This will be one of two most controversial takes in this list, but I really did not care for this game. Not that I think this game is bad. After playing so much Super Star, I have a hard time going back to games that have one-button abilities, even though this came out afterwards. The various Animal Friends you get to use are pretty cool though, and I found the Heart Stars to be neat little puzzles. Honestly, this is definitely a case of it's not the game, it's just me.
Yoshi's Island DS: Apr 7 - Apr 23
Ohhhh boyyyyy. I was warned that 100%ing this game would be a pain. And they were right! While the new babies are cool, the level design is cruel. A lot of times, there'd be hidden red coins or flowers, or a cloud of stars. Speaking of stars, they are a lot more rare in DS, and you're gonna need them more in this game, since it feels like the enemies respawn the second they go offscreen. And what's worse is that they're aren't any star items here either. While you might say that there is content locked behind going for 100%, those Extra levels are even worse. To a point where beating them is challenging enough. I honestly wish I didn't play on actual hardware cause then I could have used save states and rewind.
Pizza Tower: Apr 24 - May 11 & Aug 26 - Aug 31 & Oct 23 - Oct 24
And here is the game you were expecting to be here. Yeah, this game is fantastic. It literally caused this ordering to seem odd. I really like this game, its movement, its soundtrack, it's all so great. And I had originally planned to just get the S-Ranks and maybe get the P-Ranks next year. But then really felt like going for 101%. A feeling that I usually don't get. So I went back at it. Were some of those P-Ranks difficult? Yes, but man, did it feel good finally getting them. I then finished the game by doing a speedrun (something else I typically don't do) to get the John Suit. And the Halloween update dropped. I thought the new content was very fun and definitely tested my abilities. Now to wait for the Noise update.
Cult of the Lamb: May 11 - May 19
This is a game I played last year, but it got a pretty sizable update, adding a new QOL stuff and additional post-game content. I also really love the heavy attacks, making my favorite weapon, the axe, even better as a boomerang! The relics were also a cool way to change up crusades, and boss rematches were also good way to test all the new stuff. Overall, I enjoyed my return to the cult, and with more content coming next year, chances are I will be writing about this game again.
Antonball Deluxe: May 23 - May 25
As I wait for Antonblast, I decided to check out the game that came out before it, Antonball! And it was pretty solid arcade style game. I did go through both Antonball and Punchball, but I did not 1cc them, but I may do that at a future point. While I did originally like Punchball more than Antonball, I now think I like latter over the former.
We ♥ Katamari REROLL + Royal Reverie: Jun 1 - Jun 9
Both PS2 Katamari games were my childhood, so I was excited to see a WLK remake. And honestly, it does a very good job at presenting katamari to a new generation. I would whole-heartedly recommend this game to anyone who hasn't played it on PS2. One small gripe I have is that the Royal Reverie is a really small part of the game, only being five stages, with them being remixes of previously existing stages. But still, Katamari Damacy is fun, no matter how the gaming landscape changes, which is just wonderful.
Hey! Pikmin: Jun 12 - Jun 17
As I waited for Pikmin 4, I decided to check out the fourth Pikmin game, Hey! Pikmin. And it's okay, I'd think. I feel like I don't hear a lot of people talk about it, which is a shame as I thought it was enjoyable. This game did a good job of taking the Pikmin formula and turning it into a puzzle-platformer. I was skeptical of the game being only touch controls and the Circle Pad, but it really works and it's pretty fun to use. While the game is on the easy side (and will offer to skip levels if you die too much), I didn't mind it. Although unlike any other game in the series, I don't see myself replaying this game anytime soon. Also, I did not do the amiibo stuff, because I have an old 3DS and would need to buy an adapter for it. Even if I did, I only 3 of the 9 amiibo I have would even be compatible for it.
Pac-Man World Re-Pac: Jun 19 - Jun 23
Despite playing Pac-Man World 2 and 3, I never played the PlayStation original. Until I tried out the remake, that is. And I really liked it! The levels were fun and I enjoyed the mazes. However, there was one small thing they changed that deterred me from getting true 100%. In the original game, in order to get 100%, you needed to also complete the Maze Marathon mode. However, instead of that, in order to get 100% in the remake, you need the Magic Key. Now, this Magic Key did exist in the original game, but it required an extremely high score and only counted as bragging rights. While the remake does lower score requirement, it still meant that since I sucked the slot machine game, I would need to play every stage all over again and just hope that I get a higher score, which I would rather not do.
Annalynn: Jul 2 - Jul 4
This little arcade style game is very cool. It's a maze-style game, with a couple worlds and three levels per world. After beating the Normal Mode, I was going to try to try to 1cc it, but then I spent a lot of time in Random Mode, until I realized it was an endless challenge. So, I decided I would use the Practice Mode, since perfecting levels there still counts for palettes. It was a real test of skill, but man did it feel great finally perfecting them all. I will definitely be coming back to 1cc this at a later date.
Frogger: Helmet Chaos: Jul 9 - Jul 19
After playing those two Frogger games, I decided to jump all the way to this title on the DS (and PSP). I've gotta say, this game has a lot more secrets to it then I originally thought. While there's obviously secret 1-ups and health extensions, this game also has a branching path system that's actually pretty complex. Depending on what actions or exits you take, you can either playthrough the game as just Frogger, or you could play as all three characters in one playthrough. And these other characters not only play differently, but also have entirely unique levels to them. It's honestly a shame that's there's not a lot of footage in this game of the multiple pathways, because they are definitely worth looking into. And in case you were wondering, I'm not playing any of the Frogger games I skipped.
Pikmin 4: Jul 22 - Jul 27
Ah yes, one of the games I was most looking forward to this year. Pikmin 4 does what sequel should do, it takes what worked and what's memorable about the previous entries, and combines it with some new stuff to make it feel like a homage to those that came before, while still standing on its own. Honestly, the reason I'm talking not too much about it, because I want to people to play it blind. Yes, even if you have never played a Pikmin game, I'd say to give it a shot!
Yoshi's Story: Aug 4 - Aug 6
Oh boy, this is the other controversial take, that I really did not care for this game. I thought going for all Melons and all Hearts would make things more interesting, and while it did do that, it did not make me appreciate the game more than just the fact this game has a harder challenge in it that most people wouldn't even know about. And the minigames to get the melons just kinda suck. I personally do think the game can be fun, but I do wish I could play the game as a set of stages and not have to do multiple playthroughs to play every stage.
Rayman Raving Rabbids: Aug 10 - Aug 11
Here we go. I recently acquired the Raving Rabbids Party Collection, which as you could probably guess is a collection of the first three Rabbids party games for the Wii. As someone who really likes Go Home and thought Travel in Time was okay, I've always been curious of these earlier games. And the first game is pretty rough honestly. Like, even without the context, it feels like the game was never meant to be this. The minigames too are just ok, with a lot of them just shake the Wiimote. No joke, I beat this game, after many attempts at one of the rhythm games, and woke up the next morning with sore arms. And I know there's also a Score Mode to do, but I don't like any minigames enough to replay them for high scores, and apparently you can't even beat the Score Mode on the Wii version due to a bug (and I doubt this collection patched it).
Rayman Raving Rabbids 2: Aug 13 - Aug 13
This one will be quick. You can tell this was designed with multiplayer first, as there's not really a singleplayer campaign other than just playing the minigames by yourself. Again, I didn't feel like going for high scores, because for some games, getting a high score is less on your skill and more on the opponents not screwing you over. At least the rhythm games here didn't give me sore arms. Also, I'm gonna go on a tangent about how much I dislike how Rayman looks in this game. He looks fine in the menus, but in the minigames he moves very oddly, and looks off (which I would not have noticed if 1P mode didn't lock me into being Rayman). I get that they need everyone to share the same hitboxes and animations, but he feels like a mod in his own game. No wonder he was phased out starting with the next game.
Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party: Aug 17 - Aug 18
I can safely say that this was definitely my favorite out of the three. The minigames here were great. I feel like having groups of minigames with similar theming but still being unique was a good call. (for example, all the shooting games take place in a movie studio, but the movies are different). You can also play basically the prototype for Just Dance here, and honestly it was more fun that I would have thought! I was also worried that, since I no longer own a Balance Board, I would be locked out of playing certain minigames. Thankfully no, and while I can't say I played this with my butt as advertised, I did like them more then the past entries. This game makes me wish I could have played with at least another person, because I would have enjoyed that a lot. If were to choose one of these three games to go back and get a high score on, it would probably be this one.
Paper Mario TTYD64: Aug 18 - Aug 26
One last mod for the year, and it's a Paper Mario mod! I really love PM64, so this gave me a chance to play through it all over again. Except, it's different, because this mod adds in a lot of the mechanics from TTYD, as you might assume from the name. I did use the Danger strats, and with the new badges added, it did trivialize some parts of the game. Of course, the game also has multiple difficulties for you to choose, from the pathetically easy to the nearly impossible. And it even has two other modes with a built in randomizer and one where you only use Bow. I definitely need to check out those other modes, and can't recommend this mod enough!
Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World: Sep 2 - Sep 12
Even when I did have a Wii U, I never played Woolly World. So this port was the only way I could play it. And honestly, I liked it! This game's pretty chill compared to the other Yoshi games I played, even when going for 100%. I feel like the fact that you don't need to get everything in one visit really helped with that, alongside the Power Badges. Of course, the game still does some challenge, especially in the extra levels. I also really like the aesthetic, it's very cute and stands out among the other titles in a good way. There's also the Poochy Dash stages, which were a nice change of pace. I should mention the amiibo content, which I was unable to do, but thankfully all I was locked out of was additional Yoshi costumes and a time trial mode for the Poochy stages. Would definitely recommend this one.
Star Fox Assault: Oct 4 - Oct 7
After playing 64 3D, I wanted to try out the other game in the series that's most recommended: Assault. And… I like parts of it. It might be because I've never played Ratchet or Jak, but the on-foot gameplay just did not click with me. Even with the many times I had to use it, I just did not care for it. However, the vehicles and the on-rail sections were pretty fun. This game also has a multiplayer mode, which seems cool, but as I have no one to play with, I don't have much desire to play it. A bit of shame, as there's a lot of stuff you can unlock for it. Oh well. And, in case you're wonder if I'll play SNES Star Fox, Command, or Zero: Maybe, probably not, and definitely not.
Super Bomberman R2: Oct 8 - Oct 12
Super Bomberman R was one of the first games I got for my Switch, so when this was announced, I was pretty excited! And yeah, it's pretty good. The story mode had a bit of a more open world with exploration and puzzles. Honestly it kinda felt like a mix of the SNES Bomberman and 64 / Generations style of gameplay, which really worked. There's also the new Castle mode here, and it was not too great. Yes, I like the idea on paper, but for two out of the three worlds, the layout I created ended up being too much for the AI. No joke, I could put my controller down, and the enemy would never reach the base. So that was a bit of a letdown. The other parts of the Story Mode are good, and honestly I would recommend playing it even if you only care about the multiplayer, since beating it gets you so many coins you can spend on the shop. I am sad that 100%ing didn't unlock my main from R1, who had similar requirements there. Guess I'll just have to play Karaoke Bomber instead.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Oct 30 - Nov 1
My, it has been long since we've had a new Mario platformer, hasn't it? While I do like the New Soup games (as I remember getting New Soup with a DS as a Christmas present), I was thrilled when Wonder was announced. So much personalty and charm oozing out! And honestly, the best way to describe how it feels to play Wonder is that it takes right back when I was playing NSMB as a child. Just so much amazement, and dare I say wonder as I trekked through the levels and found all of their secrets. I would personally say to go for 100% as it's very fun and the Special World is a worthy challenge that feels like the right amount of difficulty. I really hope this game sets a precedent for not only good Mario games again, but also that giving the devs as much time as they need can make a truly fantastic game.
Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope: Nov 7 - Nov 25
This game was the other Secret Santa gift I got from Bilth, and honestly I wish I played it sooner. While I have never played an X-COM styled game, I really enjoyed this one! I really did enjoy strategizing against all of the enemies the game could throw at me. And I do have a set of heroes I used the most (Luigi, Peach, and Rabbid Mario), I felt like all of the heroes were not only equally useful, but had plenty of synergy with each other. I at first wasn't sure if I was gonna for 100%, but I was enjoying myself the whole way! You better believe I'm gonna be playing those DLCs next year, once I figure out if I need a Ubisoft account or not.
Plok!: Dec 5 - Dec 10
Out of all of the games I've played this year, Plok! is honestly a tricky one to recommend. And I've definitely had a lot of fun with it, but the difficulty can deter people from finishing it. Plok doesn't have enough invincibility frames and dies in fewer hits than you'd think, the way that continues work makes it very easily to lose progress, and no saving and no passwords means you gotta beat the game in one sitting. Of course, those last two don't really apply if you're not playing on official hardware, but it's still a valid complaint. Also yes, the soundtrack is very, very good.
And that's the games, as always, here is a tierlist of all the games.

Rise of the Argonauts' Cutting Room Floor, Part 2
Far from everything but I wanted this...somewhere.
GENERAL:
• The gods’ dialogue alignments were more unique. For example, on the docks of Mycenae when the mercenary insulted Jason only the Ares option meant punching him in the face. Apollo’s boiled down to “it’d be rude of me to brawl on another king’s land, but you, Hercules, have no allegiance and I can apologize for”
• The gods and Chiron had trials for Jason before he left Iolcus, like Hermes’ concerned psych tornadoes and Athena’s waterfalls, teleporting, and lightning
• A mini-map, first person mode, ability to freaken zoom out the camera
• Equippable things to Jason’s torso, waist, arms, legs, hands, feet, and head. Items including consumables and gold
COMBAT:
• Stats, which are in the final game to some degree. What isn’t is the gods modifying equipment stats based on Favor, beneficially, harmfully, or both. Skills which seemed different from Stats and each aligned with a god aside from generic, like Athena was associated with god powers and damage and Apollo health, resistance, and passive abilities. About the passives, a list mentions items and warm fuzzy names like BloodFrenzy and ConcussiveAttacks. Earlier I thought ‘at least Apollo and Ares don’t work together’ and welp
• The miracles and torments system. Earlier the gods were more like the myths, with random acts of spite and charity, and if, say, Ares’ anger level was above 0 Jason could be rooted in place during combat and an enemy’d target him for 20-30 seconds depending on the torment tier. Fun hell. After tormenting the deity’d chill out for a bit, though unclear what affected anger levels. Some standouts are Athena’s bolt torment having warning sparkles, knocking down all enemies in range, and only differing from the miracle in whom it targets. Hermes’ Spectral Army miracle, too, which summoned, among others, archers with favor-dependent accuracy tiers
• The Argonauts calling for help or vice versa, various battle comments. Particularly fun is Achilles calling Pan goat-shanks and if Hercules asks Atalanta for help she said, “Cover you? I can barely see past you!” There were also Heroism points and Valor and the Argonauts could maybe be upgraded too and apparently had customizable roles. Alas, not rolls
• Various mechanics especially for the shield. Flipping which included an option to impale, dashing, rushing in which Jason became a bulldozer and sent people flying, so on...then weird shit like this:
“JasonGroundStabSwordEvent const DISPLACEMENT_THRESHOLD = 0.5f; const MOVE_JASON_FORWARD_TIME = 0.2f; const MOVE_JASON_FORWARD_SPEED = 15.0f; MinTransitionDistance=50000.0”
• Truly trophy-worthy combat deeds. Kill opponents with counters. Kill opponents in one attack with each weapon, kill opponents in less than a minute with a spear throw, kill 10 foes without taking damage, and that was level 2, etc... Less bloodily, listen to Pandora's EFTJ quiz and passively block attacks. Apollo, generous? No kidding
• The Mycenae arena with centaurs and automatons. Fun for the whole family. Also, cut lines like this:
"Nef kita! Purata!" - Satyr "He's starting to sound like Achilles…" - Patroclus
• Dryads had a shield, shark teeth, turned invisible and if someone had enough Artemis favor to see them even then only four could be seen at a time in moonlight, dash, dodge, hide in trees, heal there and teleport to other trees, spore clouds that did blunt damage, entangled people in vines/roots that broke legs and if a character cut or ripped an entanglement it turned into whips, if one of their four arms were ripped off they could reattach, spat in faces, what the hell are moonflies, attacks that overpowered others did a fourth of the damage, and pounce is understating the mauling of a hunter whose body became a blood fountain
STORY:
• Not all’s here and there're mixed versions, but...Atalanta and her parents arriving on Saria after the centaurs. Her mom died enigmatically and her father decided to follow, like trailing after seal parts and not thinking you'd run into a polar bear. So the Emerald Hunter (mentioned separately from manticores, by the way, so it wasn't just a big one with tattoos) claimed its first kill. Not long after a storm destroyed the then-vine bridge to Hermes’ shrine, which Lykas interpreted as abandonment. My cosplay’s not that bad, is it? He, following Lysander's example, decided it a great time to limp around for a week straight without sleep risking death by satyrs, manticores, and the Hunter to find Lysander’s and Pelagia’s bodies and give them last rites, feeling it his duty as a Hermes devotee and his tribe to blame for their deaths. He gave up and begged his god’s forgiveness. 20 years of cheery suffering later the centaurs see the Hunter as Hermes’ divine punishment instead of the final game’s ‘idk it’s just here we guess.’ Many have lost faith in Lykas as their leader, chief those who defected earlier after being barred from returning to their homeland, and now live like animals in the wilds, nipping flanks and thieving...to hear Nessus tell it, anyway
Herms of atonement are introduced, which “commemorate deeds of shame” and “acknowledge responsibility and express humility before Hermes,” which seem the last things he’d care about. Lykas, you want to give that projector a break? Anyway, the Argonauts place them at certain sites and they reveal their messages like the most inconvenient Stratch-And-Sniffs. The rest seems mostly the same but better, like the Argonauts letting Atalanta kill the Hunter, and retroactively awkward, like Jason strategizing a hunt with Nessus. He killed Pelagia instead of the final game’s random manticores
In short, many blamed the wrong god and Lykas seeing everything as a sign from Hermes and beating himself up in shame was kind of the problem. Said god had apparently been wanting yet unable to talk to him – “You were absent from my shrine a long time” – and...it was just a storm, Lykas. The Hunter was Nessus’, Lykas. “Let nothing come between us again.” Remains to be seen if the centaur learned anything, given his reply was, “I didn’t feel worthy.” Put another way, Hermes was publicly upset as he allowed himself to be that Lykas ghosted him. Fun, as well, that an immortal god and 1,000+ year-old centaur considered 20 years a long time to not chat. Some standout dialogue:
“No, you're not of my tribe. But what you seek to do could lead to more suffering for my people. I won't allow that. There's only one thing the Nisyros fear - the displeasure of Hermes. The manticores, the satyrs...even the outlaw wild centaurs, these we deal with. These we overcome. But the wrath of our god is a terrible thing, and your death will only anger him further. You don't know what you ask of us, Jason. But it's more than we can risk.” - Lykas “It gives me a great excuse when Lykas scolds me for sneaking out to hunt. He can't stay mad for long when he sees the herbs I bring back. Not to mention his pipe weed…” - Atalanta “You keep blowing smoke up my ass, it's gonna get awful hard to see in here.” - Nessus (What would we do without you?) “Live sad and despondent lives, most likely.” - Atalanta “Sad tales are best told alone.” - Achilles (Lykas? Of the bloodline of Hermes?) “Of course, all centaurs are. You must learn to pay attention, Jason.” - Hermes
• On wooded Varonas, sunset and Moon seen, Artemis’s island, did Orion keen. “Well shit she doesn’t love me I guess we’ll go around slaying Ares’ children for this dark Titan chick and stuff.” He and Adonis murder bro’d around as Blacktongues but disagreed about killing baby Alceme and had a bad breakup. Skipping the rest as it’s probably outlined on that IGN dev walkthrough. There seemed to be split storylines depending if Orion lived or not and Odysseus was involved. Dialogue, because some’s there and Artemis is INTENSE:
“My side's torn itself open... Give me some time Jason, I will be fine in a moment.” - Orion “That's the second most beautiful woman I've ever seen fall from a tree.” - Odysseus “It is quite clear what occurred here: the dryads were performing one of their peculiar little rituals to Artemis, and in the process they lost control of themselves. As a result, their festivities degraded into a torrent of violence and debauchery. It is unfortunate they were not joined by the jovial Achilles, as he is no stranger to either.” - Achilles “Your quest is a noble one, King. I would hate to see your arrogance kill you before it is finished.” - Artemis “And what if it was your wife they ravaged, King Jason of Iolcus?” - Artemis “Perhaps the old shall learn from the young what it means to hunt honorably.” - Artemis “You surprise me, King Jason. I was certain you would die today.” - Artemis “And you, bearer of the Fleece, you stand before me, at my shrine, with the blood of my daughters on your hands.” - Artemis
• The Argonauts with their own side quests/character arcs. Hercules was considering reconciling with Hera (forced him to kill his wife and kids and in an earlier concept art he wore said wife’s necklace) and I think he’s the one being referenced by the narrator:
“With Artemis appeased and the hunter Orion at last aboard the Argo, the brave Argonauts set out to continue scouring the world for the location of the Golden Fleece. Inspired by the audience with her goddess, one Argonaut eagerly prepares to face her trials, longing to one day take Orion's place as Artemis's most favored... Meanwhile, shaken by the horrors discovered on Varonas, another Argonaut gazes out upon the endless sea, haunted by the memories of his past...”
• Alexandria was Apollo’s sacred place cuz library/book nerd and where Atalanta was once from. It, Crete, Sparta, and more were booted into the cutting room
• Minor characters had quests/storylines. A standout is Senator Anaxagoras’s daughter Crice being killed by Thankallos and Jason finding her Hecate locket in his cell. Heart-shaped, I’m sure
• Options like ratting out Daedalus to Damon and removing Medea’s wards - Hecate seemed wonderfully hammy. At one point Hermes didn’t take back Jason’s spirit sight so he’d probably die wishing he’d invented sunglasses
MISCELLANEOUS:
• The models for Orion, his hunters, and a dryad remain in the game files. As are wounded centaur models and animations, so everyone wasn’t meant to massively hallucinate in the Saria medic lodge
• Certain objects reacted depending on Jason’s standing with a god, like Ares favor made braziers flare or extinguish
• Descriptions:
“The Royal Armor of the Kings of Iolcus, this suit of armor has heretofore been worn only on the most important occasions of state—coronations, weddings, funerals, and the Presentation of Heirs to Chiron in the Grove of Zeus. Crafted primarily for its ornamental appearance, it has little to offer in the way of defense.” “Hercules is a dichotomy of unrivaled strength and restrained emotion. His prowess in combat is obvious, reflecting his divine strength, courage, and resilience.” “Achilles is fiery and confident. His abilities in combat are unmatched, the unorthodox deceptive and explosive nature of his attacks make him a dangerous foe to contend with.” “Atalanta is a determined hunter of great skill, and great intrigue. She is quite focused and aloof, and appears to be ready to act, move, and fire in the blink of an eye.” “Perseus is eager and determined, but relatively inexperienced. He is something of a little brother figure, needing to be protected, but ever-ready to stand on his own.”
• The more Artemis favor Jason had the closer he could get to creatures and a golden stag would buff him. He could also kill animals on a whim, via a god power if you wanted to sacrifice in style:
“Special case sheep dismemberment goodness.”
• Customizable subtitle and user interface styles, some themed after the gods or maybe islands
• More. Didn’t want to overlap

You know, I never thought my trip would be ruined like this. Museum being closed down due to a pandemic? Sure. A robbery occurred near the area? Makes sense, it is New York. But being attacked by a giant pigeon woman and my brother has to save us while holding an ancient sword? Never thought it could happen. Anyways, Sam and I manage to get out of the building and put her dad right next to his car. Outside of the entrance, police officers were blocking the civilians from entering the building and prevented any casualties from happening. One of the officers walked toward us and Sam’s dad explained the situation. Except, he didn’t tell the whole truth; all he said was that there was some crazy lunatic and that a trained specialist is dealing with the culprit. I wanted to ask why he lied, but my main concern is Percy's safety. Yeah, I was scared out of my mind with the fact that a mythological creature attacked us, and that I almost got killed by it. But right now, my brother, who’s a son, a husband and a father, is inside, fighting that creature on his own.
“You’re okay, dad.” Sam said. “We’re safe.”
“For now,” I implied. “But I need to go back and help my brother!”
“Don’t!” Sam’s dad yelled. “If he’s what I think he is, then you’ll just be in the way. He can get the job done.”
“I don’t care, that’s my brother out there. And not just that, he’s also a husband and a father, I’d never forgive myself if something were to happen to him!”
Just as I was about to head back, the front entrance erupted, showing Percy being lifted by the Vulture herself. Percy was struggling to get loose, but the harpy was also wounded. Percy must’ve wounded her inside. The two flew off towards National Park. I ran off while telling Sam to watch over her dad.
As I reach toward their location, I see Percy defending himself as the Vulture (Ugh, I really got to ask for her real name, someday.) flies down and attacks. Percy tends to roll or dodge to avoid her claws.
“Come on, Vulture. Is that really the best you can do?”
Vulture snarled.
She dashes forwards and Percy swung his sword at her. But, she dodge it and then kicks him off the ground. Percy groans in pain after he falls. The Vulture laughs in amusement.
“Seems age is starting to take its toll on you, Perseus Jackson.”
“And yet, you still can’t kill me.”
Percy threw his sword at her, hitting her by the leg. She snarls in pain and flies up towards the trees. Percy got up and looked into his pocket.
I want to help him, but I have no idea how. I mean, first off, I don’t have a weapon; I have no combat experience at all (Video Games don’t count!), and what’s worse, I’m starting to heat up. Sam said the spider wasn’t poisonous, so why am I starting to catch a fever?!
Percy took out a pen from his pocket.
Really? A pen? He had a magical sword and now he only has a pen. What’s he gonna do, write a formal complaint? He uncapped the pen and it transformed to the same sword that Percy threw. Well, you know what they say, The pen is mightier than the sword. Especially if it’s ALSO a sword.
“What are you doing here, Vulture? What’s your game?”
Vulture replied, “I was simply grabbing a snack while I was scouting. Then I found your sister, and then you came along. Seems fate really is on my side today. Not only will I get a half-blood, but I also get to make you watch as I kill your sister.”
Percy frowned, “Don’t you dare touch her. Your fight is with me.”
Vulture smirked, “Exactly…”
She flies down again and tries to pin down Percy, but he dodged it and was gonna land a blow at her. But she predicted his movement and swirled around and used her wings to hit Percy.
The two were relentless, neither of them would leave an opening to attack. Seriously, where did Percy learn how to fight like that?! Never in my life have I seen this guy fight like that. At home, he’s a nice guy with some idiotic behaviors. Remember the blue food? He loves them; even his own wife makes them for him. And don’t get me started on his ADHD problems. One time, he and I were making a surprise cake for my parents' anniversary, and we ended up destroying the kitchen with dough. Don’t ask how it started, we don’t know.
You get what I’m trying to say? My lovable idiotic brother is fighting for his life against a mythological creature who has a grudge against him. Seriously, what did he do in the past? Is there like a whole series of books I can read about that?!
Percy starts panting as he loses his stamina just defending himself from the Vulture. The harpy on the other hand, was also losing her strength but she has the high ground.
Wait…
“It’s over, Percy Jackson,” She said.
No…
Percy replied, “You underestimate my power!”
Really, Percy? In the middle of a life or death situation, you had to pull a Star Wars Reference? No doubt about it, he’s still my dorky brother.
Anyways, despite what he said, he was really in trouble. He needs to find a way out of this situation and stop Vulture.
“Oh, did I? I know your abilities, Jackson. Why do you think I cornered you in an area with no water nearby?”
Water? What does water have to do with Percy? I mean, he’s a great swimmer and loves the sea, but how is that effective in battle?
Percy chuckled.
“What’s so funny?” Vulture asked.
“You idiot, did you forget how trees grow?”
Percy slammed his right hand down to the ground and everything started to shake. I was getting wobbly but I noticed that the falling leaves, the trees nearby, even the flowers and grasses, were being drained. Droppings of water started to appear around Percy and began forming into shapes. Instantly, they formed into spear-like figures, aiming toward Vulture.
She cursed while Percy fired the water spears at her. She dodge a couple but got clipped by the third one and fell down to the ground.
I was shocked at Percy. I mean, he was able to control the water itself like a water-bender. Another thing I noticed is that Percy wasn’t even wet. Both Vulture and I got wet from the sprinkles of water.
Another thing Percy has to explain.
As the Vulture gets back up, Percy points his sword right in front of her neck.
“It’s over,” Percy said. “You lost.”
Vulture scoffed.
“You may have won for now, Percy Jackson. But soon, Olympus will fall. I guarantee it.”
Olympus? Like Mount Olympus? The actual home of the gods? Is that real as well? Ugh, questions just keep piling up and I still have no answers to them! Anyways, Percy summons a small orb of water and it manifests into a rope-like material and wraps itself at the Vulture.
“Now, you stay here while I call the huntresses to pick you up. I really don’t want to get involved with another world-threatening situation right now. Or ever,” Percy said as he, somehow, caps his sword back into a pen and puts it back in his pocket and then takes out his phone.
“Also, Estelle, you’re really bad at hiding.”
I cursed silently and walked out in the opening.
“I thought I told you to get out of here,” He scolded.
“Sorry, it's just, after everything that happened today, I couldn’t see you handling something like that… no offense,” I said, referring to the tied up harpy.
The Vulture snarled at me in hatred.
“When I get out of this, sister of Percy Jackson, I’ll…”
“First off, the name’s Estelle. Estelle Blofis. And second, my brother just whooped your sorry butt. So why don’t you just be a good birdie and zip it.”
She growled at me while Percy guided me further away from her.
“Estelle, please don’t anger her anymore than she already is.”
“Fine, but you’re not out of the woods yet.”
I mean, technically we’re still in the park, but I meant it as an expression.
“Look, Estelle. I promise to explain everything to you soon. But right now, we need to get you home, safely.”
“What about Sam and her dad?” I asked. “That harpy creature nearly killed them!”
“She must be a half-blood. That’s not good,” Percy mumbled.
“What’s a half-blood?”
“Look, just go back with the Stacy’s and get home safely. I’ll deal with the Vulture and meet you back home. Okay?”
Suddenly, the Vulture started laughing.
“What’s so funny?” Percy asked.
“You think I was alone this whole time?”
Suddenly, rumbling was occurring around us. Like something big was charging at us. I was starting to lose my balance, and my fever was definitely not helping.
“What is that?!” I said.
Percy was quiet until he yelled.
“Estelle! Run!”
But it was too late, suddenly a giant tree was thrown from the air and got between me and Percy. I lost my balance and fell into a ditch. I groaned in pain as I tried to get back up. Out in the distance, I hear a loud roar and Percy fighting. As I reached the top, I hid behind the log and looked at where Percy was at.
He was fighting a big guy, and I couldn't say who or what he was, but he was bigger than Percy, stronger even, and he was holding some giant axe. Percy has this shock look on his face, as if he knew exactly who it is.
“How on earth are you alive?!”
As Percy was fighting the big guy, I noticed that the Vulture was starting to break loose from her water prison. As she gets out, she flies up in the air and dives for Percy.
“Percy, look out!” I yelled.
Out of pure instinct, I ran toward Percy and jumped, pushing him out of the way. We both fell into a bush while the two villains collided with each other. Unfortunately, the harpy reacted quickly and got out of the big guy’s way. I got up and yelled at Percy.
“We gotta go! Now!”
Percy nodded and got up. We both started running away from the enemies and tried to find a good place to hide.
“What was that big guy?!”
“No time to explain,” Percy answered. “Just another guy I fought back then.”
“Another… How many enemies did you make?!” I yelled. “What, were you on the most wanted list for stealing something important?!”
“Kind of?”
“I WAS BEING SARCASTIC!”
At this point, anything goes. Percy could be a descendant of wizards and went to Hogwart. Or he’s a half-vampire or werewolf because mom fell in love with a monster. Or maybe he’s a mutant like the X-men and all these creatures are just humans with mutations. I don’t know, I just want some answers!
But, as you can see, we’re a bit busy trying to survive. Percy found a spot under a bridge. We ran there and hid.
“Look, I’ll make this as simple as possible once we’re in the clear, okay?” Percy whispered. I  sighed and nodded.
“Fine, at least tell me why these guys are after you?”
“The Vulture had siblings and I killed them to save some of my friends. I couldn’t let them get eaten. As for the big guy… well… he and I have some history together.”
“How much of a history?” I said.
“…He once took our mom and sent her to the underworld.”
Okay, that… that was unexpected. “WHAT?!” I yelled. Percy shushes me and covers my mouth. I mean, how would you feel if you found out your mom, who’s still alive, went to the underworld because of your brother?
“Look, it’s a really long story and we don’t have time. Just know that monsters are real and they love to eat humans, especially half-bloods.”
“And what’s a half-blood?!” I whispered loudly.
Before he could answer, suddenly, the bridge collapsed. A giant figure came falling down and roared.
“Estelle, run!” Percy yelled. I got up and ran as far as I could, but then I got pinned down from the Vulture. She swooped down from the sky and dragged me to the floor.
“Don’t think I forgot about you, you little brat,” She snarled.
“Ugh, brush your teeth next time you eat out,” I said, disgusted by her breath smell.
As I looked toward Percy, I noticed he was fighting the big guy. He was wearing a robe so I can’t really see his actual appearance; but, I could’ve sworn I saw hooves on his legs. I tried to get loose from the Vulture’s grip, but she is holding me tight with her claws. I couldn’t break free.
Percy was struggling too. He can’t seem to find an opening with the big guy he’s facing.
“Damn it! When did you get this good?!” He yelled.
The big guy growled at him.
“Kronos is gone! Why are you guys still here?!”
Vulture scoffed. “Haven’t you heard the news? Our father has returned.”
Percy replied with a shocked expression, “What? That’s impossible!”
He kept dodging the hooded monster’s attack.
“Enough! Best you stop now, Percy Jackson. Or your precious sister gets it.”
Vulture lowered her wing arms near my neck and I noticed that some of her talons have sharp edges. She could cut my neck anytime she wanted to if Percy didn't hesitate.
Percy was near the river that was under the bridge so he can probably use it to attack or something. I don’t know, I was still wondering how he did that whole water-bending technique earlier.
“Don’t you dare go near the water, Jackson,” The Vulture replied.
Percy was frustrated. He can’t attack or move, while the big guy gets a free pass to attack.
I hate this.
I hate being the damsel in distress. Yeah it’s nice being saved by the hero; but who’s gonna save the hero if the damsel is too weak to fight? No, I won’t be a burden to Percy, even if I am facing the supernatural. Though, not gonna lie, I’d happily be the damsel if the Winchester brothers came to save us. I mean, have you seen The Winchester brothers?!
Anyways, since Tweety here is holding my arms down, I still have one motive I can use. It’s a dirty tactic, and really nasty, but I had no choice.
“Hey, birdbrain!” I yelled. The Vulture looks at me and I straight up spat at her eyes. Don’t ask how I got accurate aim.
The Vulture grunted in disgust and lost her grip at me. I managed to get my left arm out, grabbed a broken debris and hit the Vulture at her legs. She screamed in pain and let go of me. Percy saw and used it as an opportunity to strike at the hooded man. He put his hand on the river and summoned a huge whirlpool toward the man and pushed away and toward the harpy. I ran toward Percy and grabbed something I can use as a weapon.
Vulture gets up as she is furious from my escape attempt.
“You arrogant, brat. I’m gonna enjoy making you suffer,” She snarled. The big guy growled as he got up and picked up his axe. The two cornered us.
Percy has his magical sword while I have a metal rod from the bridge as I held it like a bat.
“So, Percy, think we can take these losers down?” I said with confidence. But, judging from Percy's expression, we do not have a chance.
“Sorry, Sis, but that metal bar ain’t gonna help you. These guys can’t get hurt from regular material. Only enchanted weapons can.
Thanks for telling me important information at the last second, Percy!
“Great, any more bright ideas?!” I yelled.
As if all hope was lost, our knight in shining armor appeared on his great stallion. And by stallion, I mean her dad’s police car. Jumping off from the broken bridge, Sam dad’s car came flying down and crashed down towards the monsters. As the car crashed on them, more debris from the bridge fell and piled up right on top of them.
As the smoke clears out, Sam and her dad exit out of the car, coughing from the debris smoke.
“Sam? Was that you?!”
Sam replied, “I couldn’t let you handle everything, Stella.”
“…How did you get your driver’s license again?” I said in amusement. Sam shrugged.
Percy sighs in relief and says, “We gotta go, that’ll knock them out for a while, but they’ll wake up soon.”
Sam’s dad nodded, “He’s right, these creatures are resilient when it comes to their  hunger.”
“Hunger for food or vengeance?” I asked. “Cause either way, they have got to go on a diet.”
“There’s a subway station nearby. Let’s head over there and head home. I gotta get Estelle home safely and tell my wife the situation.”
“What? Can’t you just call her?” I asked Percy.
“Phone broke during my fight with the Vulture. Seems she was smart enough to stop me from calling for help.”
I groaned in annoyance.
Percy gestured us to follow him as Sam and I helped her dad walk since he’s still wounded from the harpy’s attack. Luckily, he’s not bleeding, but he definitely took a beating from her. We walked toward the subway station and managed to catch a train to the station near my apartment.
We all sighed in relief as Mr. Stacy took out his phone. He made a quick call to the police and told them that he’s fine and taking his daughter to a safe place and will return soon. After that, he gave the phone to Percy.
“Here, my phone still works.”
Percy denied it.
“Can’t, my phone was specifically built for my kind.”
“Your kind?”
Percy sighed, “I’ll explain later, Estelle. Let just get you home and tell Annabeth the situation and-”
“Wait, Annabeth knows too?!”
It was gonna be a long trip back home for Percy.
