the brides: beyond dracula
(or, a list for those who would like to see more of the weird sisters)
Tumblr media
🩸 A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson - told from the perspective of Dracula’s first bride, Constanta, this is an alternate-universe story of the Brides through the ages, their relationship with Dracula becoming increasingly more abusive, and the three of them finally breaking free of this relationship. A slightly more detailed review here.
🩸 The Deathless Girls by Kiran Millwood Hargrave - a young adult prequel novel about the two dark-haired Brides, here reimagined as two Romani sisters. A slightly more detailed review here.
🩸 Dracula, Motherf**ker! by Alex de Campi and Erica Henderson - a very short graphic novel about the Brides and a crime scene photographer called Quincey Harker fighting Dracula in the 1974 Los Angeles. A more detailed review here.
🩸 Van Helsing (2004) - that one action movie where Van Helsing is an immortal monster hunter played by Hugh Jackman, and also Frankenstein’s monster is there. Love this movie or hate it, it can’t be denied that the Brides play quite a big role in it.
🩸 Bit (2019) - not a Dracula adaptation, but still a vampire movie that draws on the concept of the Brides of Dracula. The main character, Laurel (a trans woman played by a trans actress), moves to LA to her brother after graduating high school, is bitten by a pretty girl she meets at the club, and joins a vampire girl gang. The power dynamics in the group eventually lead to a confrontation complicated by the return of a powerful ancient vampire called ~Vlad~ (there’s a flashback sequence about him set to Rasputin by Boney M. If you even care).
🩸 The Invitation (2022) - if you don’t mind some randos (because the Harkers would never!) being given the names of the characters of Dracula, here’s a Gothic romance/horror movie about a young American woman Evie, who finds out she has relatives in England, accepts their invitation to a wedding, goes to England where a rich lord starts courting her, and then all hell breaks loose. This one goes the easy way of making Dracula young-looking and handsome, but I’d say he’s still scary enough, and if vampirism was taken away, this could still be a horror movie about fucked up rich people à la Ready or Not.
🩸 The Brides (2020) - before the pandemic, ABC was developing a TV series about the Brides in the modern world, starring Gina Torres as one of the three. Then COVID-19 happened, and the show got scrapped. Only the trailer remains. By the look of it, it would have been cheesy, but I still found it interesting to get a glimpse at what could have been.

Dracula canons in Yuletide 2022
Unsurprisingly, in the wake of that whole Daily Dracula thing, there were a lot of Draculas nominated for this year's Yuletide exchange this year ‒ not just a lot of Dracula characters, but whole different adaptations of the novel. And being that kind of terrible Dracula-nerd, I figured I'd make a list and share some notes on which-version-is-which. Now, I've only seen about half of these, and can't speak to what all the other folks who actually nominated them loved about them, but I'll take any excuse to ramble on about different Dracula-adaptations at this point, so here we go.
We've got a couple of movies, a couple of telemovies, a TV series and even a musical to cover here, so I'm just gonna put them all in chronological order, starting with the novel.
Dracula - Bram Stoker (Novel 1897)
Nominated characters:  Abraham Van Helsing  Arthur Holmwood  The Correspondent  Dracula  John "Jack" Seward  Jonathan Harker  Lucy Westenra  Lucy Westenra's Mother  Mina Murray Harker  Mr. Hawkins  Mr. Swales  Quincey Morris
Damn, Daily Dracula has done it's thing: folks have nominated basically everyone. (Well... except Sister Agatha. GDI, where's Sister Agatha, people?! Has that 2020 Moffat/Gatiss version put everyone off?)
But, moving onto the adaptations-
1. Dracula (Movies - Hammer) (1958-1974)
Tumblr media
Nominated characters:  Dracula  Lawrence Van Helsing | J. Van Helsing  Lorrimer Van Helsing
Okay, yes ‒ this nomination was me. Look, Peter Cushing's Van Helsing was being reincarnated into whole new eras and having confusing chemistry with Christopher Lee's Dracula long before anyone ever thought to do the reincarnation-thing with Mina, and I want all the fic about it, is that so wrong? (Or, you know, the excuse to write some myself. Or really anything about these versions of the characters interacting ‒ I'm not picky!)
2. Count Dracula (1977)
Tumblr media
Nominated characters:  Abraham Van Helsing  Jonathan Harker  Mina Harker  Renfield
One of the two British telemovie Dracula adaptations to come out of the 1970's (the 70's was a BIG decade for Dracula). This one was the more faithful to the novel ‒ too faithful, if anything, since some new ideas or creative storytelling could have gone a long way to distract from the limitations of the budget. That said, I did like their Dracula: the costuming isn't much to write home about, but he has enough presence to elevate every scene he's in (and, I mean, if you're going to get one thing really right in a Dracula adaptation...)
3. Dracula (2006)
Tumblr media
Nominated characters:  Abraham Van Helsing  John Seward  Lucy Holmwood  Mina Murray
Yet another British television Dracula, this time one where Arthur Holmwood is tricked into helping bring Dracula to British shores by a vampire-worshipping cult, in the mistaken belief the Count can somehow cure him of congenital syphilis. No, really! Seriously though, my biggest disappointment with this one was it didn't go wild and weird enough ‒ the sad soap opera life of Arthur & friends just can't hope to compete with all that high-gothic camp, and 90 minutes just isn't time for all these ideas to breathe. But it must be said, Marc Warren makes a surprisingly compelling Dracula, and his one big vampire-sex-scene with Lucy is... quite something. Basically, I can definitely see why someone might want fic about these versions of the characters ‒ there's lots in this universe left to expand on.
4. Dracula: l'amour plus fort que la mort - Ouali (2011)
Tumblr media
Nominated characters:  Jonathan Harker  Poison  Satine  Sorci
Well, okay. This one is, er, a French musical version? XD God, do I love the stuff you'll find nominated for Yuletide! So: not a version I'm familiar with, but going by this one summary I found, what we have here is one of the (MANY) post-1991-Coppola-version rip-offs where Mina is a reincarnation of Dracula's wife... but also one where Dracula hasn't spoken since his wife's death, and now employs three very gloriously campy servants to speak for him (Poison, Satine and Sorci, from the noms above). As someone who doesn't speak a word of French and knows this thing only from 5 minutes on youtube (I mean, the whole show's up there, though the quality's not great), these three are great value, and I can totally see why someone would nominate them for Yuletide.
5. Dracula (TV 2013)
Tumblr media
Nominated characters:  Lucy Westenra  Mina Murray  Alexander Grayson | Dracula  Jayne Wetherby
A short-lived TV series reimagining of Dracula, where the Count shows up in London posing as an American steampunk inventor called Alexander Grayson, and yet another of the (many) post-Coppola versions where Mina is the reincarnation of Dracula's tragically-dead-wife, etc. Admittedly, this is an adaptation I know only by its reputation as the show that that finally gave us lesbian!Lucy (!!!) only to have her turn around and sleep with Jonathan for dubious plot reasons (theFUCK?) ‒ but I'd be the last to judge anyone who enjoyed it as a guilty pleasure and/or just wants to run away with the characters and let them have some real fun.
6. Bram Stoker’s Van Helsing (2021)
Tumblr media
Nominated characters:  Abraham Van Helsing  Arthur Holmwood  John Seward  Lucy Westenra
Huh. Well, okay. First point: the poster is a lie ‒ this actually seems to be a fairly-straight, (very) low-budget film adaptation of the novel ‒ just one that starts about when Van Helsing arrives (ie, when Lucy is already very ill). So, more drawing-room-drama than Hugh-Jackman-material. Have not seen it, but have a trailer! Now you know just about as much about it as I do.
Honourable mentions
In the "do I even count this?" bonus round, we've also got the 2016 Van Helsing TV series (nominated characters: Axel Miller and Catherine) ‒ a show set post-vampire!apocalypse and starring a Van Helsing descendant. There's also a character called Van Helsing nominated for the Kyuuketsuki Sugu Shinu | The Vampire Dies in No Time manga, and a "Dracula Vance" nominated for a video game called Panilla Saga, about whom google will tell me nothing very illuminating. Ah, well. Seriously though, the total number of different Van Helsings nominated in this year's Yuletide must be some kind of record.
I'd also be remiss not to mention that the original 1872 Carmilla is also nominated, as is the excellent 1970 Hammer adaptation The Vampire Lovers. And rounding out our list of Victorian vampire lit, some weirdo has also nominated Varney the Vampire, but that one really needs its whole own post...

Vampire Suggestions: Movies and TV
For my babes who want to get into vampires but don't know where to start. Here are some of my personal recommendations.
Tumblr media
Vampires are a very fun genre to get into especially in films imo, you get ranges from romance, to comedy, to drama, to sinister. I really recommend looking into vampire folklore as well, I love the many interpretations of vampires across the country, but in my experience, having background knowledge of the folklore/history makes these films more enjoyable. (this is just my personal preference, you ofc don't have to do this)
What We Do in the Shadows (2014 film) and (2019) show. They are both mockumentary comedies, but I think they're really good and very humorous. The characters are more fitting to classic vampire stereotypes but I think that's what makes it more enjoyable
Interview with a Vampire (1994), I also strongly recommend the book written by Anne Rice. Although I am not the biggest Tom Cruise fan, he is how I pictured Lestat
Van Helsing (2004) Focuses more on Hugh Jackman and hunting vampires, I loved how the vampires were portrayed in this film
Castlevania (2017) people are usually hesitant when I recommend this one because it is an anime, but Castlevania is one of the franchises that really sucked me into vampires. Gothic Horror/Literature is such a perfect mix with vampires, especially when religious elements are tied in as well.
If you want something more in the 'teen romance' part, I suggest *The Vampire Diaries (*TVD), it is a bit dated, and it is one of those 'love it or hate it' series. But I think if given the chance you could potentially really like it. It obviously has a little more than romance, but the main love triangle was what I was there for. (you could also watch the spin-off series called The Originals, I preferred this one a little bit more especially if you wish to know more about the originals )
I also really recommend looking at the suggestions on this article, if you are looking for vampire romance films that AREN'T Twilight (no judgement on those who enjoy the series, I enjoyed it when I was younger, I just don't really have the same feelings towards it now)
If you want more recent films:
Midnight Mass (2021) This series was a little bit scarier than the other ones I have recommended (I didn't know if you had any limits so I thought I would lay this one out here). But it also falls under a Gothic horror in a way, like I said before when I suggested Castlevania, Religion, gothic horror, and vampires are such a good mix, and you can really see it shine in this series
Dracula (2020) I love retellings or Bram Stokers Dracula (if you have not read the book or know much of Vlad the Impaler, I strongly recommend doing a little deep dive on him). This retelling was a lot more modern and I really loved Claes Bang's acting, I am such a stickler for Dracula's because imo Christopher Lee will always be number 1.
**Note: I did not recommend Christopher Lee's Dracula Films because they are a little older, and I know that some people do not have the patience for older films. However I will be happy to Link them here**
The Invitation (2022) Although I didn't really enjoy this film as much as I hoped I would, I still am going to put it down because I know some people really did like it. It is a bit of a build up, but I don't want to spoil it for you
I hope that some of these recommendations you enjoy, I saw some of the other recommendations on here and they are all so good. Personally I think a big plus in the Vampire community/genre is that there are so many interpretations of vampires and there are so many forms in media that you can really dip your toes into all of it and pick and choose what you like from the batch. I hope you look into a bunch and Happy hunting !

I think another part of DID people don't mention often enough is that the mental map of the places around you becomes kind of... Fucked?
Like we have alters who have been dormant for almost twenty years and they still remember the city the way it was in 2005 and go: "Wait, what do you mean this DVD store is closed? The VHS-rental next door is gone?" and we have to go, brother in Christ, yeah. Also... Nobody owns VHS/DVD-players anymore.

Shout out to Francis Ford Coppola who read about a 19 year old girl asking to sleep in her mom's room because of nightmares and went: "Yep, this young lady is a total whore"

Lucy in the book: Oh my god, Mina, I wish I could marry three dudes so that I won’t hurt anyone’s feelings! My internalized misogyny leaves me deathly afraid to establish any boundaries and think about what I actually want. I’m going to fake being ok and happy as this mysterious disease drains me so that I don’t worry my friends, my husband and my mom, all of whom I love very much!

I honestly will never be over the fact that Van Helsing, the most well-known vampire slayer, enters the narrative with the letter that's pretty much: "Ja, freund-Jack, if it wasn't for your thirsty twink ass texting me after all those years, I wouldn't even look at that dying girl, anyway, please get me a hotel room, datta boi"

People saying Johnathan is kinda oblivious are missing the simple fact that in the start of the novel both him and his bride are like... Broke as shit.
Like he has barely started working as a lawyer and Mina is an orphan (no dowry for you, Mina) who has just started working as a teacher.
Johnathan’s relationship with Dracula is the law equivalent of tolerating that weird dude who commissions you fucked up furry porn, keeps asking for tweaks and telling you his whole life-story, but you just can’t turn him down because your cat is sick and you really want to buy your GF some cool stuff.

Book Review Time!
I reviewed @natalieironside's new book, In the Court of the Nameless Queen, on my 18+ blog! I've been wanting to branch out into book reviews anyway (I usually review sex toys) and this was a hell of a way to dive in.
Is this an erotic novel in a fantasy setting, or an erotically charged fantasy novel? I dunno, but there's spider-fuckin'. And I loved it. This is exactly the kind of erotica I've been looking for while complaining about other erotica.
[T]hat’s actually what I enjoyed most about the erotic elements of this story. Almost every sex act really meant something to the characters—sometimes learning things about themselves, sometimes finding freedom or validation as they explored their sexuality. In one case, a character accepts that she’s trans by being dommed into it, and it’s an absolutely beautiful sequence. As someone who has a whole tag dedicated to kink as a coping mechanism, I loved seeing sex and kink used to genuinely improve and enrich the characters’ lives.
Curious? Check out Book Review: In the Court of the Nameless Queen.
(The review does contain affiliate links to Amazon, but this was not a sponsored post.) Thanks again to Natalie Ironside for working with me!

i may be going crazy rbing dracula daily stuff today because Van Helsing is my favorite, with his zillion degrees and quirky old man charm and his LOLCat syntax. I'm delighted at all the folks finding out that he is not in fact a sexy action hero but rather, y'know. That.

My #1 post of 2022
My first instinct is always to get super pissed at Mrs. Westenra at this point but tbh, Dr. Abraham Van Helsing of 97 PhDs, it wouldn't have hurt anyone if you'd explained the necessity of the flowers to her BEFORE she decided to "help." You didn't have to explain the details.
Honestly (some spoilers) a huge number of the issues in this book come from the men deciding not to tell the women what's happening to "protect them" only for that to lead directly to bad things happening. I'm sure there have been papers written on this. Was this an intentional statement on Bram Stoker's part? I really don't know.

Dracula (miniseries) (2002)
Dracula (2006)
Dracula Reborn (2012)
Dracula 3D (2012)
Bram Stoker’s Van Helsing (2021)
My opinions are as follows:
Dracula (1979) was my favorite adaptation when I’d only seen three, and it’s still my favorite now.
Hrabě Drákula is tied for most accurate adaptation with Count Dracula (1977) and the 2002 miniseries, which was somehow very faithful to the book despite being set in modern-day Hungary.
The Spanish version of Dracula (1931), which was filmed on the same sets at the same time as the English version but with different actors, is honestly a better movie than the English version in most respects. The dialogue is less stilted and the ending is less abrupt. If only they’d had Lugosi it would have been perfect.
Dracula Reborn is absolute trash, the only thing that could possibly have bumped Nosferatu the Vampyre up from the bottom of the list. A worthless movie it was actively painful to watch even at double speed.
Bram Stoker’s Van Helsing was a complete surprise, but really good! It’s on youtube and I recommend it. Actually, all but #12 are online on some site or other, which was extremely helpful.
Only two of these movies had Mina and Lucy kiss, and only two implied the Count’s attention towards Jonathan was homoerotic, and this is how I know few of the screenwriters read the book.

New Fiction 2022 - September
The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Complete - "Tobias" ed. Richard Challoner (1752)
Tobias and Son keep the faith and are amply rewarded. But also don't forget to pay back those debts.
The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Complete - "Judith" ed. Richard Challoner (1752)
Do not mess with Holofernes! Unless you're a badass like Judith.
Dracula Daily - "September" by Bram Stoker & ed. Matt Kirkland (1897, 2021)
That Van Helsing sure takes his sweet time but I respect the dedication to the process. And now I see why everyone wants to make Mina Harker the star of her own thing because these fellas hog up way too much of the action.
A Less Perfect Union by William Leisner (2008)
Alternate universes is part and parcel for Star Trek, and this series of novellas seems to have arrived at a time when authors were keen to meld those universes and pepper in some “what if...” scenarios. I like that this one gives T’Pol a proper due.
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia (2020)
The whole thing, just all of it. What a read and especially good timing as I was just in one of those former silver towns that were built on the slave labor from local people. The house is so richly described that I can still walk through it when I close my eyes.
Weird Mysteries - "Robot Woman" by Basil Wolverton (1952)
There should always be a test case for obsession.
Goosebumps: The Game dev. WayForward (2015)
A shockingly good game based on the Goosebumps license. It captured a really mellow, spooky atmosphere and wasn’t interested in rushing the player along. Just the kind of game I’d hope to see and I’m glad we at least got a couple of these meaty adventure games in the series.
Goosebumps Dead of Night dev. Cosmic Forces (2020)
Some potential in the second level (see the aforementioned note on pacing), but the first and third levels drop the ball a bit. I don’t need FNAF scares in a video game based on children’s lit.
"The Dancing Pig" dir. Mr. Odeo (1907)
Not a horror story but the puppeteering on the costume is so good that it’s kinda scary.
Orphan dir. Jaume Collet-Serra (2009)
You wish you could be the person they deny you.
Orphan: First Kill dir. William Brent Bell (2022)
The complete absence of tension.
The Invitation dir. Jessica M. Thompson (2022)
A mild update.
Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul. dir. Adamma Ebo (2022)
A dollar earned is two dollars kept.
Medieval dir. Petr Jákl (2022)
Alone and destined to step over discarded bodies.
Barbarian dir. Zach Cregger (2022)
Stop and go, stop and go.
Pearl dir. Ti West (2022)
It begins where the chains are strongest.
See How They Run dir. Tom George (2022)
Find a clue and follow it to the beginning.
God's Country dir. Julian Higgins (2022)
The only reasonable conclusion.
Confess, Fletch dir. Greg Mottola (2022)
Yes hello Lorenza Izzo.
The Woman King dir. Gina Prince-Bythewood (2022)
The story within the collapse.
Don't Worry Darling dir. Olivia Wilde (2022)
A sudden halt.
The Silent Twins dir. Agnieszka Smoczyńska (2022)
Tragedy on every level.
Luckiest Girl Alive dir. Mike Barker (2022)
Someone has to win.

I got canceled watchlist:
Let’s start of right!
Cue the lights!
(Enters the paranoia and the paranormal)
Mini movie Watch list:
Megan (2023) I’m stoked 4 this! Go androids!
Disturbia (2007) This is a rewatch and I still remember most of it too but I mostly just think about Rihanna’s song (lulz)
Bram Stokers Van Helsing (2021) Anything with Bram Stokers name on it, I will certainly enjoy. I haven’t seen this and it’s alittle new-era-esc and for some very rational reason that makes me nervous 😬. Any who! Enjoy!

Genre: Action, Horror
Cast: Charlie Bond, Helen Crevel, Tom Hendryk
When his fiancée Lucy falls victim to a mysterious illness, Arthur Holmwood turns to a former rival in her affections - Dr John Seward - for help. Seward calls in his mentor, Professor Van Helsing, who quickly uncovers the terrifying truth; the "illness" that afflicts Lucy is in fact a vampire's curse, and the only cure is a fresh supply of human blood. The discovery of several bodies - each drained of their blood - forces Van Helsing and Seward into a race against time to destroy the curse once and for all.

5 Criminally Underrated Audio Drama: Supernatural Fiction Edition
Always hard to resist a good bit of supernatural fiction, who doesn't love some good monsters and mysterious happenings? Podcasts certainly have no shortage of it, and better yet, it's almost all very queer.
There's only a few popular supernatural podcasts, most of which are more horror or fantasy leaning anyway, but there are some incredible lesser known ones that could easily fill that space! Without further ado, here are 5 absolutely quality supernatural podcasts.
Up to date as of 16th July 2021
Jar of Rebuke
Tumblr media
"Join in Dr. Jared Hel's journey as he works to re-discover his forgotten past and learns about various entities and anomalies within the small farm town of Wichton for an organization called 'The Enclosure'. With creatures and stories based upon real legends and lore within the midwestern United States, follow along as Jared tries to figure out the secrets of the town as well as the secrets of their own identity."
Adventures of an unkillable (well, he can be killed, just doesn't stay that way) amnesiac scientist as they investigate strange creatures, make new friends, and eat lots of tasty food in the small town he's living in. Really well written and paced, full of cool creatures and enticing mystery with a dash of horror, and an absolutely endearing lead. Very queer. There are currently 18 episodes of between 10 and 27 mins each.
Jar of Rebuke is available on major podcasting platforms and Spotify. Content warnings are given at the start of each episode from season 2, though not for earlier episodes, and transcripts of each episode are available on the website. You can also follow their tumblr at @jarofrebukepodcast!
Monstrous Agonies
Tumblr media
"From werewolves in the doghouse to new ghouls at work, there's no problem too strange for this weekly advice segment, from the UK's only dedicated radio service for the creature community"
A community advice radio show in a world where humans and monsters and creatures of all kinds live together in a world just like our own. Delightful exploration of the cultural and everyday aspects of this world, as well as individual tales of familial, platonic, romantic, and (non-explicit) sexual intimacy and conflict. Simple but clean soundwork with the absolutely most soothing narrator/presenter I've encountered, and of course, both subtle and overt queer rep. Season 1 has just finished, there are currently 35 episodes of between 10 and 20 minutes each.
Monstrous Agonies is available on major podcasting platforms and Spotify. There are no content warnings available, but transcripts are linked in the show notes of each episode. You can also follow their tumblr at @monstrousagonies!
Murray Mysteries
Tumblr media
"A gothic-comedy audio retelling of Bram Stoker's Dracula"
A super fun, super queer, and honestly super faithful modern adaptation of Dracula. Instead of Mina's diary, it's the podcast she and her flat-mate Lucy, run together! The friendship between the two feels genuine in a way shows rarely capture. Van Helsing has the same cool but weird professor energy of the original that adaptations never get quite right. Dracula himself has got the be the most fun and well thought-out modern take on him I've seen. Mina and Jonathan are still the absolute sweetest but with the inspired addition of being an acespec bi couple. Lucy's three suitors are all different genders. I could go on. It's also just, really funny. You don't have to have read Dracula to hear it, but it'll still be an extra layer of fun if you have. Season 2 is currently airing, and 21 episodes of roughly 8 minutes each are available.
Murray Mysteries is available on major podcasting platforms and Spotify. Content warnings are not given, but transcripts are linked in the show notes of each episode. You can also follow their tumblr at @knovesstorytelling!
The Night Post
Tumblr media
"In Gilt City, conscripted couriers are both respected and shunned. They inhabit the borderlands between a growing industrial society and the untamed, arcane frontier that surrounds it. The Night Post is a weekly supernatural audio drama about survival, tradition, and the vast unknown."
After his husband goes missing, Milo is conscripted to take his place as a courier. But nights delivering the mail in and around his city are filled with unexplained strangeness even the other couriers, Val and Clementine, can't anticipate, and while looking for his husband, they find far more and far stranger. Really well made, acted, written, full of more mystery and intrigue than I can hope to do justice to here. And it's very queer. The Night Post is on break between seasons, 15 main episodes of roughly 15-20 mins each, and 4 minisodes of about 5 mins each are currently available.
The Night Post is available on major podcasting platforms and Spotify. It has content warnings at the top of the transcripts, which are linked in the show notes of each episode. You can also follow their tumblr at @thenightpost!
The Way We Haunt Now
Tumblr media
"Eulalie Elizabeth Reed is haunted by lots of things. Paths not taken. Failed relationships. Mistakes. Fears. Hopes. But she’s never been properly haunted before. That’s about to change. The Way We Haunt Now is a lighthearted horror audio drama about female friendships, found family, and fighting the narratives that try to define us––even in the afterlife. Oh, and ghosts. Did we mention ghosts?"
Eulalie has always been a little haunted, but after she comes home with an antique phonograph, this becomes a bit more literal. What starts off unnervingly spooky and very mysterious becomes a gentle and wholesome ghost story. I love the chill vibe of it, the mystery, the optimistic outlook on humanity, well thought-out soundwork. They are currently between seasons and crowdfunding for season 2! At present there are 10 episodes of 15-20 mins each, and one 5 min minisode available.
The Way We Haunt Now is available on major podcasting platforms and Spotify. It has content warnings at the top of the transcripts, which are linked in the show notes of each episode. You can also follow their tumblr at @thewaywehauntnow!

Dracula Live 2021
Bram Stoker's novel, set in 1893, begins on the 3rd of May with Jonathan Harker on a train bound for Transylvania. As with the past few years, we'll be following along on Twitter 🧛🏻‍♂️@live_dracula.
Each tweet corresponds to a journal entry, letter, telegram, etc. written by a character in the novel. The intent is that they go live at the exact time the character would be writing it down wherever in the world the story has them (usually Romania or London). Each tweet links back to this site with the full text of that part of the novel. You can follow the basic plot points on Twitter or click through to read the actual book.
The complete Table of Contents can be found here. The original text of the novel is from Project Gutenberg. Entries are presented strictly chronologically which, in some cases, means they arrive at different times than they do in the novel. An exercise left to the reader is to consider how this changes our story experience.
I also include a movie frame from one of several filmed adaptations of the book. In general I've tried to pick shots that either use my favorite casting—Keanu Reeves for Jonathan, Winona Ryder for Mina, Peter Cushing for Van Helsing, Dwight Frye for Renfield—or which faithfully depict the scene (though there are several scenes that rarely show up in any version).
Enjoy and, if you have friends who might dig this project, please share.
[Dracula Live is brought to you by Wallachia (which includes a free copy of Dracula).]

Hello there and, welcome to the final installment in the 2021 edition of Gaming Horrors in The Dimension of Spookiness! And, what better way to end the series than to take a look at a game based on the 2004 movie, Van Helsing. As the tour comes to an end, the Bandito himself faces against the trio of monsters, Frankenbob, The Manwolf and, Dracula! We've walked through the Forest of Zombies, had a short visit with the Grim Reaper in Lucille Haunted Manor, had another walk through the cemetery, went on tour in ScreamLand, and now, we will be going to the spooky church. But, what evils might lurk here tho? I hope y'all have a Happy Halloween this year! 🎃
