What y’all doing if you haven’t seen the cinematic masterpiece that is The Nice Guys 2016 🤨🍿
Tumblr media
It actually physically pains me that this movie isn’t as popular as it should be

I've heard some people say to "just watch shows without sex" and that kind of stuff, but never any actual suggestions. and while I do think it should be allowed to show love, sexual, romantic and otherwise, I do have the impression 99% of media that isn't made for 7 year olds has romance, crushing and/or sex and even some of the stuff made for 7 year olds has it. especially if you count any romantic relationship shown or married people, but even if you ignore that.
do people have any recommendations of media (especially TV series) WITHOUT any sex, romance and crushing? (ideally without partnerships shown, but idk if that exists)
I haven't yet found anything that's in any physical store or library or streaming service, only Amazon books (I'm not getting something in the mail from outside my country the tax for that is like 100%).

I just watched “damsel” and oh em gee, I was blown away, the acting is incredible, they have the girl from enola Holmes which is a movie that I adore and they have her playing a girl with similar values and personalities but the movie is completely different and it’s very high quality and her character is just so enamoring, along with the fact that a lot of the scenes really accentuate her character
Also if you’re like me and my mother lol and like to guess the whole movie as you go along it’s one of those movies where there could be multiple different twists and turns based on past events and foreshadowing so you never really know the ending or what turn is next up, like a little maze, pun intended lmaoo (this is a pun that you’ll only get if you’ve either watched the trailer or the movie lol)
Anywyas it’s awesome I loved it!
Edit: I ALSO COMPLETELY FORGOT TO MENTION THE SOUNDTRACK THE SOUNDTRACK IS HEAVENLY, ITS PERFECT, ITS ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS I LOVED THE SOUNDTRACK SO MUCH

WATCH NIMONA. GUYS.
Spoiler free list of reasons
- Nimona works as both an INCREDIBLE trans and neurodivergent allegory
- explores suicidal ideations, and does it REALLY WELL
-LOOKS COOL. I get the criticism from the people used to the comic’s art-style, but you have to admit that visually the movie is STUNNING in its own accord
-STUNNING THEMES and story, can’t really elaborate a ton and still be spoiler free but just, trust me on this
-extremely obvious and pre-established gay relationship that is INCREDIBLY CUTE AND HEART WRENCHING OH MY GOD I ADORE THEM (the MAIN CHARACTER TOO.)
-FOUND FAMILY.
-Main character has a prosthetic arm!! Like dang cool robot arm dude
-It ends on the main character screaming “holly shit” except it’s cut midway trough shit which makes me so giddily for no reason and would sell me tbh

WHY ARE PEOPLE HATING ON KING ARTHUR THE LEGEND OF THE SWORD????!!??! WHY ARE THEY ON PEOPLES 'Oh my guilty pleasures' LISTS??!?!!??? WHY???? The cinematography was masterful, plot was more than good, loved the banter and back and forth, the fantasy elements were fantastic, characters were to die for, CHARLIE HUNNAM WAS HHHGGGNNNNN AND THE SOUNDTRACK WAS BOMB so like people what tf is wrong with yall??? What's with all this hate on this movie??? Like I assure you movies like Transformers 4 and 5 are just solely carried by the franchise name. The last Pirates of the Caribbean?? Disappointing. Like I get those movies did well in the box office cause they have big names and everything but frankly whoevers putting up shit reviews for this movie is like, bruh???? Tf. I'm so pissed cause apparently it was supposed to have like 5 sequels and since it was apparently a 'flop' in the box office Warner Brothers couldn't drop it fast enough.

I have recently Watched Sea Beast, Bad Guys and Nimona, which I’ve all seen raced about in a similar manner, and now here are my opinions!
The Bad Guys
Hilarious
I loved Wolf. I don’t know how but that feeling of wanting to do good but struggling with the change (really just any ‘charecter change’)
The animation
The characters
All just where wonderful and dynamic
I do wish we got a why some Animals were Animorphic and others wherent. I know it’s a kids movie but even just a quick shot or toss away line but that bothered me /lh
Gender envy
Brings out the furry in me (idk how to explain but after watching animal movies as kids I’d act like that animal I didn’t this time but you get the idea)
Sea beast
I get the idea, and it’s a good message but I didn’t like it, enough said
Nimona
Screaming crying throwing up
I don’t get some of the messaging I think and there was to much unknown for me and so parts of it I didn’t really like
Nimona is amazing and it’s a hundred times funnier when you realize she’s like over 1000 years old
Gender envy
Shapeshifters are the best
I like how parts of it feel like a home video movie clipped together
Which Nimona and Bal lost/got captured before they one and had a heart to heart
Overall very good

Civil War (2024)
Rating: ♥︎♥︎♥︎♥︎♡ tl;dr: An excellent character-driven story that follows a group of seasoned war (photo)journalists and one spunky newbie as they follow the end stages of a civil war in the United States. If you are hoping to see a Trump-esque villain get his comeuppance through an action-packed war thriller, this is not the movie for you. However, if you're like me and enjoy people and humanity at the center of your dystopian plots, I think you'll enjoy this movie.
Extended Spoiler-Free Review: I haven't seen a good character-driven story like this since 2010's Monsters, where the Great Calamity™ is never truly explained but hovers menacingly in the background as we follow our intrepid heroes on their journey. It was good. I know I like every movie (hence my heart rating), but I liked this movie more than I like most movies.
The story focuses on four characters with a shared passion for war (photo)journalism. Each individual character had a different motivation, but they needed each other to achieve their goals. The interplay between them was realistic, with the three veterans appropriately feeling like close comrades, confidants, and competitors. The fourth member of our team is a novice who idolizes one of the veterans and nearly gets herself killed during their first meeting. All four are both likable (Stephen McKinley Henderson's Sammy is downright loveable) and entirely believable.
As for what caused the Civil War, it is technically stated explicitly in the background, but you have to be paying attention to get all the pieces of the puzzle. Each news blurb in the background, a quick flash of a TV screen, and offhanded quips between our main characters and others. It's all there, but the story of what led to the Civil War (and how Texas and California banded together as the Western Front) is never told in its entirety all at once. Pay attention, and you'll put the pieces together, which I found fun.
Also, the sound design?? The soundtrack?! Phenomenal. It wasn't no Arrival (2016), but it did a great job conveying the emotions of the scene or providing an unsettling contrast to what was going on in the scene.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, and I highly recommend it if you enjoy these types of movies.
