Peach Pie
A Daryl Dixon Fanfiction
Daryl Dixon X Reader (she/her)
18+
Warnings: Strong Sexual Content
Daryl's been working hard, and Y/N wants to show him just how much she appreciates him.
Master List
Hilltop was a busy nerve center for farming and livestock. They’d made great progress in keeping their folks busy, productive, and fed. When Daryl and Y/N chose to move from their house in Alexandria to the Hilltop community, many were disappointed, especially Rick, his kids, and Carol. You would think a large brand new house that’d never been lived in would be what the couple’s dreams would be made of. But no, they preferred a simpler life, and quite frankly a more hands on place to work and live. They wanted to make sure not to forget how dangerous the Walker world was and stay more active. Alexandria had turned into a more modern place with creature comforts whereas Hilltop was similar to a homestead. Alexandria had paved streets, Hilltop dirt roads and paths. Most of all, Alexandria was crowded. Daryl preferred less people. And wherever Daryl wanted to live, Y/N would willingly go along.
They’d been at Hilltop just a month shy of a year and living in a tent out beyond the cemetery away from the FEMA trailers, closer to the orchards. It was peaceful and they slept well after a hard day’s work.
Y/N had worked the orchards for nearly a week. She picked apples and peaches, doled them out to the residents and today she was taking advantage of the Barrington House kitchen being empty. She was going to make Daryl a peach pie. He’d been working with Jesus to stabilize the oldest barn that had once housed horses, but now was used to store hay. He’d get up at the crack of dawn, work until communal dinner and then bark orders at the blacksmiths for more nails. He deserved a little gift of appreciation.
Her hands worked the crust, stretching it into a pie dish. She’d peeled the peaches, tossing them with sugar and spices. The syrupy juices would enhance the pie, and drive Daryl wild. Once the pie was finished, she set it to cool placing a note with it Do not touch!
Dinner was served and as she ate, Daryl found his way to her. He sat down at the picnic table and started sopping up his stew with a hunk of fresh bread.
“Hey,” he said between bites, “how’s the day been?”
She shrugged, “just working the orchards again. Is the barn almost finished?”
“Probably t’morrow.”
She was happy to hear that. Selfishly, she wanted some intimate time with him. They hadn’t made love in several weeks, both too tired to even consider it. Instead they’d cuddle together and make the best of it.
Once dinner was over and all the plates were collected, early evening came. Daryl stoked a fire in front of their tent, Dog laying by his feet while he whittled a piece of wood. Y/N walked down the path and held out the pie. Daryl looked up, “’s that for me?”
She nodded, “I brought two forks.”
She sat next to him on the small bench they’d placed by their tent and handed him a fork. He dug into the pie, savoring the first bite. Daryl’s eyes closed, a small mm on his lips. He glanced her way as he swallowed, “’s good, Y/N. It’s damn good.” He held up another bite but this time to her mouth. She obliged by eating it. She had to admit it was very good. They set to picking at the pie, eating half of it before they felt as if they’d burst.
Y/N stood, but Daryl clamped onto her arm, “where ya goin’?”
“I’m going to put the pie in the kitchen fridge inside the Barrington House.”
“Hurry back.”
When she returned, Daryl was waiting for her. He took her hand and led her inside the tent. Dog meant to follow, but Daryl said, “Stay.”
Once inside, he slowly began to kiss her, his hands sliding down the front of her and over her breasts, “wanna thank ya for the pie.”
She giggled and began to unbutton his shirt. She kissed his warm chest, smelling his musky scent, and sweat. She groaned with desire as he finished undressing and aided her in the removal of her clothes. Slowly Daryl lay her down on the blankets, and trailed kisses down to her breasts, nuzzling them before tickling them with the edge of his goatee.
Her breath caught in her throat, hands roaming through Daryl’s long dark hair. He continued his travels southbound, dipping his tongue along the curve of her stomach, kissing the flesh here and there. Her tummy trembled; this urged him further on. In the southernmost region of her body, his kisses grew in urgency, circling in the soft short hair covering one of his favorite destinations. Daryl kissed her lips, his hot breath on such a sensitive area eliciting dreamy sighs from Y/N. He licked along the line where the opposite shorelines met before diving into the valley to seek out his prize. Her clit hardened from his advances and soon Y/N’s body was pulsating in response to every bristle from his hair chin and upper lip, his hot breath against her tender skin, and a calloused finger sliding into her wet niche.
“Daryl,” she whispered, “take me, now.”
His return trip home was waylaid as he lifted up over her fiery body. Finally, he planted himself firmly inside her, whisking her off on another adventure. They moved together, his thrusting growing more urgent as she rose to connect with him, her hips lifting from the ground. He dragged his mouth along her chin, his breath quickening as he pinned her arms down, holding her hands tightly.
Their eyes met, alive and full of desire before reaching the summit together. Daryl released her hands and caressed both sides of her face as he remained pressed on top of Y/N’s burning body. Sweat mixed, the tent smelling of sex. His damp hair brushed against her face as they kissed, tickling her. She let out a small laugh and tucked it behind his ear.
“Wow, what a thank you,” She cooed, rubbing her nose against his.
“Like I said, damn good pie,” he smiled from ear to ear.

Bramley's Book Of The Week - Master Thread
I've been adding to a thread over on my twitter (bardicbramley) every week-ish with a new Children's or YA book that I have read recently and would recommend! With everything happening on twitter, I'm going to make a master list of all my recommendation so far here, and then continue adding them to a tag on this blog as well, just in case!
So, without further ado... #bramleysbotw so far!
31/10/22 - Home by Tonya Lippert and Andrea Stegmaier
A gentle story of homelessness giving so much space for understaning & discussion. A great tool for deeper talking ab houseless people, different types of homes and unstable living situations with gorgeous, simple yet detailed art.
Tumblr media
7/11/22 - How To Be More Hedgehog by Anne-Maire Conway
So much deep and true emotion, a relatable MC and great messages of self advocacy, confidence and activism. As someone with selective mutism and tics, I enjoyed every second of Lily's proudly stammer-filled journey.
Tumblr media
14/11/22 - Lifesize by Sophy Henn
Over to my library kids for this #bramleybotw A new addition that they've not stopped talking about...Even my most energetic readers are sitting on the floor, reading the animal facts to their friends and comparing their hands to that of a polar bear!
Tumblr media
21/11/22 - Me and My Dysphoria Monster by Laura Kate Dale and Ang Hui Qing
In honour of #transawarenessweek2022 and as a personal thank you from a trans educator. An amazing addition to trans children's literature (& kidlit in general) that I would highly recommend to other educators!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
28/11/22 - Love Your Body by Jessica Sanders and Carol Rossetti
A beautiful and uplifting non fiction to support girls in loving and appreciating their body for all the amazing things it can do, and all the incredible ways it can look.
I needed more words to also talk about the incredible art in this week's choice. The colour pallet just so comforting and the style is a new favourite of mine!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5/12/22 - Paws by Kate Foster
My younger self would have loved this book and even now I adore it. It has authentic #actuallyautistic representation (without negativity!) and is all round a lovely story.
Tumblr media
6/1/23 - When I See Blue by Lily Bailey
An emotional and gritty real world adventure with Ben, as he navigates making friends, protecting his alcoholic mother, and battling the bully in his head, his OCD. A tough but beautiful read.
Tumblr media
30/1/23 - Star Knights by Kay Davault
A Graphic Novel filled with self acceptance, incredible worldbuilding and animals that turn into magical adventurers?! I mean come on, how could I not rec this one 💖 bonus points for queer rep too.
Tumblr media
9/2/23 - All To Play For by Eve Ainsworth
It's recommended by Empathy Lab UK this year and I couldn't agree more. It has Barrington Stoke's signature dyslexia friendly pages and font - but so much more than that. A story of family, class and determination.
Tumblr media
20/2/23 - Birdsong by Katya Balen
I'm a bit late to the party with this one. I've seen so many people sing it's praises! A gorgeously honest, emotional and raw story that any child will love, but will strike a chord with certain ones especially.
Tumblr media
27/2/23 - Speak Up! by Rebecca Burgess
A graphic novel about a secret teen pop star with a wonderful autistic main and genderqueer side character representation? Of course it was amazing!
Tumblr media
6/3/23 - Tyger by SF Said
Much like Phoenix, the dedication to world building, the layered, lovable characters, and the beautifully descriptive language had me gripped from the very start. Dave McKean's incredibly detailed and emotive illustrations surely helped!
Tumblr media
13/3/23 - Needle by Patrice Lawrence
An incredible heartfelt read for UKS2/MG/KS3 - exploring often avoided topics of fostering, UK police and court systems, racial profiling, when to be honest (or fake it), whose voices matter most and questionable justice.
Tumblr media
20/3/23 - Twelfth Grade Night by Molly Horton Booth, Stephanie Kate Strohm and Jamie Green
Sometimes you really just need a queer, unapologetically corny modern Shakespeare smash retelling of Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream, and that's 100% okay! I got you covered!
In all seriousness, with all the hatred filling queer spaces atm, it was great to just float in a fun, sweet, dramatic world full of lovable ✨fairies✨The illustrations caught me instantly - the pining faces, the dramatic lighting! A teen romcom Will'd be proud of.
Tumblr media
28/3/23 - Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga
A beautiful UKS2+ novel in verse following Jude's journey across oceans, growing up, making friends and finding her voice. Rich and realistic, not shying away from subjects often avoided, and with poetic Arabic intertwined.
Tumblr media
3/4/23 - Frizzy by Claribel A. Oretga and Rose Bousamra
Whilst not my own cultural story, it resonated deeply still 💖 an incredibly honest, beautiful and joyous graphic novel with gorgeous colours and rebellious questioning of generational trauma!
Tumblr media
12/4/23 - Sir Callie and the Champions of Helston by Esme Symes Smith
I put it off for so long bc I was a little scared it might not live up to my hopes, but it was so much more than I imagined. The love I have for these kiddos (and Callie's dads 😭) is intense. Kidlits often shy away from big, scary or rebellious topics. Neither Callie nor Esme are afraid to speak up ab what trans kids (and so many others) need/deserve to hear, and I am so proud of them for that. This is the book I needed as a kid - I am so glad it exists now 💖⚔️
Tumblr media
24/4/23 - Jamie by LD Lapinski
A powerful story of never backing down and demanding your full self to be acknowledged. I'm so excited to see a story encouraging children to stand up for themselves and recognise that adults can be (& often are) wrong.
Tumblr media
5/5/23 - Dungeon Club: Roll Call by Molly Knox Ostertag and Xanthe Bouma
Great for those who haven't played and incredible for those who have - the use of D&D stat blocks and dual narrative (irl and in game) 🙌🏻 simply amazing! Can't wait for the next!
Tumblr media
15/5/23 - Call Me Lion by Camilla Chester
Being autistic, sometimes partially or non-speaking, and having struggled with confidence all my life - I just loved this little joyful tale. Realistic but hopeful, with easily likeable, well rounded mcs!
Tumblr media
22/5/23 - My Brother is Away by Sara Greenwood and Luisa Uribe
A /beautifully/ illustrated and gently poignant picturebook of a child whose brother is incarcerated. I've seen this kind of book before, but this is it done right, well, and to a v. high quality.
Tumblr media
19/6/23 - Front Desk by Kelly Yang
Been meaning to read this for so long, finally have, and of course its been added to my all time favourites list! What an incredible, reflective and honest piece of art for children. I don't do mandatory reading, but if I did: top of the list.
Tumblr media
26/6/23 - The Golden Hour by Niki Smith
A gorgeous graphic novel, upper KS2-3 cusp/YA. It takes a beautifully artistic and honest look into managing childhood PTSD from gun violence, with help from an eye for photography, a cute calf, and a first queer crush 💖
Tumblr media
3/7/23 - My Aunt is a Monster by Reimena Yee
A sweet and exciting story of adventurers, curses and mysteries with a healthy dash of queer and disabled representation, all whilst learning to see past first impressions.

Obscure Literary Gems #8?
A book published by a small press.
This was a hard one to answer. Apparently I don't read a lot of small-press books, and most of the ones that I've enjoyed are ones that you already are familiar with. But one that I think might work is The Ghost Garden by Emma Carroll, published by Barrington Stoke. They're a British publisher that specializes in books that are formatted to be readable for children with dyslexia.
That's not a demographic that I am part of, but I sought this book out because I read good reviews of the story, and I really enjoyed it. I wish it had been longer, but for its length it packed in more substance than one might expect.

Review: Frankenstein: A Retelling by Tanya Landman
Tumblr media
Barrington Stoke do an amazing job of making well-loved classics accessible to reluctant readers and those with dyslexia. I’ve read their version of Pride and Prejudice as well as a few other newer titles in their catalogue and they’re brilliant at getting across the essence of a story in a easily digestible fashion.
Often considered to be the first sci-fi novel, Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein tells the story of a young man whose quest to find what life really is unleashes a creature into the world. Rejected by every human he meets because of his appearance, the creature changes from a gentle soul, who is curious about love and the world, into a murderous monster.
Tumblr media
Victor’s ambition and passion for his work is very much retained in Landman’s version of the story. There is no doubt that he is a devout scholar and obsessed with finding the key to resurrection. Even if this isn’t a story that you’re familiar with, I think we can see his downfall coming a long time before it happens.
Tumblr media
Victor is afraid of how other people will react to his claims that there is a strange non-human creature roaming the mountains. Despite the danger that the monster poses to the general public, Victor would prefer for everyone to think highly of him. This decision will later prove to have tragic consequences but it’s a mistake that Victor makes again and again. Frankenstein is truly a cautionary tale of hubris and this version of the story delivers that message to a wider audience.
Tumblr media
Of course, we get the monster’s perspective too. He cannot understand humans or their emotions until he spends a year watching a small family. It’s through them that he learns about love and hardship. This lesson is amplified as he embarks on his journey to find his creator and rejection is waiting for him at every turn. The monster has such a sad, pensive tone to his voice and his loneliness and hopelessness comes through so well.
Tumblr media
Frankenstein is a masterpiece of literature and it has so many lessons to teach. Unfortunately, some of these lessons still haven’t been learned by many humans of today but hopefully, this adapted version of a fantastic classic will reach some of the people who need to read it and absorb its messages.

Review: Pride and Prejudice: A Retelling by Laura Wood
Author: Laura WoodPublisher: Barrington Stoke LtdReleased: January 6, 2021Received: NetGalley I don’t know about you guys, but I am an absolute sucker for retellings. Review: Needle by Patrice Lawrence
Tumblr media
I have read a few books by Patrice Lawrence and consider her to be one of the queens of Black British YA books. Her characters are always so raw and real and her writing feels so urgent. So, I was delighted to have the chance to pick up this short story that she wrote for dyslexia-friendly publisher Barrington Stoke.
Charlene loves knitting and her latest project is set to be a present for the little sister that she doesn’t see anymore. But when her foster mother’s son destroys her work, Charlene snaps and stabs him with a knittting needle causing major damage. Suddenly, Charlene is in big trouble but everyone keeps telling her to apologise in order to make things easier for herself. But Charlene has never apologised and she isn’t about to start now.
Tumblr media
Knitting is a soothing method for Charlene, as I know it is for so many knitters. Charlene’s foster mother Annie tries to introduce her to other ways of relaxing but Charlene is only interested in knitting. Due to her fixations and rigid mindset, I did wonder whether Charlene is on the autism spectrum. She definitely shows some sign of it but as it isn’t mentioned in the story, I don’t think it’s something we can say for sure.
Tumblr media
Charlene is aware of the realities of being a Black teenager, especially a Black teen in care. She knows the judgements that white people make about her and about Black people in general. I love that this book addressed systemic racism in a slightly different way to how it’s usually addressed in books. It’s not completely blatant in this story and that goes to show that it isn’t always explicit in real life.
Tumblr media
It seems that even Charlene’s school don’t really understand her or take anything into account beyond her circumstances. She is placed in lower sets for everything, simply because of the fact that she’s a ‘troubled kid in care’. It’s also a commentary on how class affects education, no matter what school a kid ends up in.
Tumblr media
There is a lot of depiction on what it’s like to be a working class Brit. So many little details like the nappy blocking the window can only have come from Lawrence’s real life experience or observation and honestly, that image broke my heart. How can one of the wealthiest cities in the world still have residents that live like this? And of course, this is just the surface of the realities of urban poverty.
Needle is a fast-paced, engaging and educatonal read about a girl fighting for what she believes in within a world that doesn’t want her to win. It’s the same fight that many young people are fighting in our own world and these stories need to be told. Told with punch and power, Needle is a glimpse into a teen experience that many of us can barely imagine.
