Really weird how Mikan killing Saionji is never brought up. There are no signs of saionji being scared of or even hating her for what happened. It's like it was just brushed off. I dislike saionji but still, pretty weird.
This did come up once before around here, but I think the important thing to remember is that we're never given any idea how long they were all awake on the island before those Future Foundation ships arrived there and they subsequently took one of them back to Future Foundation HQ. Based on the "2.5" OVA, we just know Komaeda was the last to wake up, and all available members of Class 77-B boarded the ship shortly thereafter. We also don't see whatever happens on the (seemingly quite a few hours long) journey in-between.
My point is that there's a lot of time when such things could've been dealt with, addressed in some way, etc. And then, when we DO finally see the two of them interact, we only get two short glimpses of them together in the aftermath of DR2:
1) Tsumiki saving her life in the HQ, which Hiyoko gets irritated about - which does track pretty well either way you interpret it: Either as "how dare you save me after you previously killed me" or just "fuck you in general bc I'm a sour bitch."
2) The scene of "Girls A -D" from the Twilight Syndrome case all together during the credits where Mahiru is standing between Hiyoko and Mikan. So... whether those two are directly interacting is somewhat unclear, though it does appear that Mikan might be look at Hiyoko's skewer of meat, if nothing else.
So again, I think there's still room for a lot sour grapes in there, given how little time we spend with them and how little we see of them after DR2's Chapter 3.
Tumblr media
I missed this one once before, and I guess my takeaway from Mahiru chiding them about telling her "you reek" (Kazuichi) and describing how smells so bad that it stings your eyes like a demonic eclipse (Gundham) was that, well, Mahiru's not wrong. "You guys are really insensitive!" is a pretty fair statement. Like, it's possible to approach someone's hygiene failings with a little bit of tact, right?
I do love how Ibuki seems legit surprised and fascinated when Hiyoko starts crying about it. She's leaning forward (as if for a closer look) and is just like "Oh, she's crying!" like this is just an alien reaction to her. And Mahiru does at least tell Hiyoko that she really doesn't need to overreact to such a degree.
But yeah. No one in the group really ever defends Mikan. It's something we've talked about around here before. They just blow her off anxieties off like "Mikan's just like that," which might be kind of understandable .... until you factor Hiyoko's abuse into the equation. Here is someone actively exacerbating Mikan's trauma responses, and you're just sort of... sitting there through it.
Speaking of that, here's an Ask I missed a while back:
Tumblr media
Obviously this brings up a lot of the same stuff as the ask directly above, but I did want to again point to the time someone Japanese said that looking the other way when it comes to bullying is sort of a cultural issue for Japan. I'm not sure how accurate that is, to be fair. But if that's true, then it seems like there's a lot going on under the surface of Mahiru and/or Ibuki's behavior. (Though Ibuki is sometimes deep in her own head, so maybe she just was easily distracted.)
I guess we don't see too much of the direct bullying by Saionji in the "Despair Arc" part of DR3? But there is SOME, and I do wish someone would say/do something about it when it's there.
But Akane standing up for Mikan in her trial despite not defending her from Hiyoko at any time prior makes enough sense to me, even if I wish she'd been there to step up earlier. Because maybe she doesn't care about getting picked on and insulted — and based on Akane's past history of being insulted or used by people and just never really caring or noticing, I guess that's consistent. But she DOES care about someone being accused of murder and/or executed for a crime, because that's a whole separate level.
I would've liked to have seen more guilt from the entire class when Mikan starts calling everyone out during the trial. She busts their chops for how she's been treated and how no one's ever defended her, and I wish we got more of a stunned silence and remorseful looks from the group when that was going on.
...I'm probably blathering on at too much length again. But for your reading pleasure: There's a whole world of asks and personal ruminations in my anti-hiyoko saionji tag that might be of interest.

This blog is a bully-free zone and if you like the same things that I do, I’ll gladly welcome you into my corner of fandom. My inbox is always open and even if I’m not always around right away I will find a way to reach out and say hello. Fandom community is something that’s lost in this world a lot of the time and if we’re in the same fandom(s) and you want to talk about it, my DM’s/inbox are always open.
Oh and yeah if we don’t have the same ships or the same fandoms, but you want to reach out and be friendly while we agree to disagree on ships, but still continue to have a pleasant conversation you’re welcome too. I’m a part of the ship and let ship mentality, so if your ships don’t align with mine that’s okay. If you’re a nice person you’re always welcome to be a part of my online community as well. A little kindness goes a long way and the more of it we spread the stronger community we can be so please keep that in mind when navigating your experiences online. We are stronger when we can find a sense of community and bring joys to each other’s lives instead of bullying.

Bring back the word "mean".
People don't understand big words like microaggressions or problematic behavior or offensive talking points or bigotry.
They're being mean. Like a bully on a playground. And if they don't stop, we won't play with them anymore, because they might get someone hurt with that kind of behavior.

Inspire and Engage Your Students with Top School Speakers
Students think that the best thing about getting to go to school assemblies is GETTING OUT OF CLASS! Yes, they are mandatory, sort of, and are for the large student body. But when students get close to the gym or auditorium and they hear the type of music they like, they start to wonder if they might just like it this time!
Tumblr media
I don’t mean to sound partial, but our SCHOOL SPEAKERS truly are the very best in the nation! They are relevant, exciting and interactive. But it’s so much more than that.
Those who do not have oral disabilities use oral language to communicate ideas and feelings to other people. In general, they use the language to converse at home or in the office, but on occasions they must speak formally before a certain audience, often without having the necessary fluency to do it well; An example of this is when students have to make a presentation in the classroom. In this article we explain what public speaking is, what it is for and what a high school public speaking course is about.
Even if it is a small intervention in the class, it is always necessary to have a training that allows the development of the necessary skills to express each word fluently, this provides security and strengthens self-esteem at a stage of life when we are full of insecurities and complexes. For this reason, it is important that Language teachers develop public speaking activities and dynamics for secondary schools as part of their teaching process.
In fact, public speaking for secondary school is part of the contents of this signature; but we really know what oratory is and what is its importance.
What is oratory?
According to the Spanish Royal Academy, the word oratory is a Latin term that refers to the "art of speaking eloquently", it refers to the ability to express the message that you want to convey in the correct way, clearly and fluently before others. people, whether family or not. Clarifying this is the first thing that is explained in the texts on public speaking for high school youth , which are used by Language teachers.
It is worth noting that public speaking as an area of language is not a new subject, since it was Socrates, the Greek philosopher, who created one of the first schools of public speaking for his young students in Athens, where being an orator was considered essential for everything . educated citizen. Thus arises the need to generate experiences to teach this art to adolescents.
The importance of studying public speaking in high school
People live in a world where communication is part of all our activities , for this reason, during the performance of daily life and work, there are always spaces where people must present their ideas. In the workplace, speaking is part of our day to day, since at some point we have to present a report, attend a conference, present a project or address a group of clients.
In this case, we must show serenity and security, speak appropriately, accentuate the words that are worth highlighting, look into the eyes of the listeners and apply the techniques of a good speaker to make the best impression.
For this reason, it is important to study public speaking and a good time to do so is through group dynamics planned by teachers in secondary public speaking courses . This is an activity that is very relevant if we consider that high school graduates are being trained to practice a profession where they will have to present their ideas or opinions when presenting a project or discussing a business idea.
Just to give examples of how important it is to teach high school public speaking , we will refer to the professions in which it is required to speak properly.

Stop Calling NB People Fujoshis
Especially when they're literally relying on fandom activities as one of the few outlets available to help manage ongoing dysphoria that can't be treated adequately for whatever reason. It's like you're just scoffing at a stranger and saying 'You're just a giiirl so you're silly and weird for liking shit and should just shut up and go stand in a corner.'
Not that anyone of any type of identity should need an excuse or anyone's permission to create/enjoy whatever type of fanworks give them some small modicum of happiness in this fucked up, alienating world. How about we stop using shaming, bullying language against fans simply having fun with fictional creations.
People really suck sometimes. -__-

Anon, youre valid in loving saionji and we respect your opinion even if ours are different from yours. Previous anon should definitley apologgize for generalizing Saionji fans and they were wrong to say that. That being said, I can't believe some people missed the point of Mikan's character (someone who very clearly is skittish and desperate to please people and has dark fantasies due to her upbringing and bullying) and has the audacity to say that she provokes people into bullying them. If it takes simply looking at someone that fits into Mikan's description to bully them, it's likely they had abusive tendencies in the first place. That's on Saionji, not mikan's by any means or forms.
NOTE: This is reply/reaction to this previous ask.
Just wanted to share the above Ask on its own terms. I have nothing to add. The Asker is completely correct.
Tumblr media
I don't know enough about MLP to know who Sweetie Belle is (I assume some other character routinely bullies her?), and this single story could be construed as just a piece of anecdotal evidence/another one-off, but... it sure feels like it's a "more common viewpoint than you'd think" to see even TWO instances of this attitude, IMO.
More Hiyoko Saionji/Mikan Tsumiki discourse to come; stay tuned. :P

sorry shawty, i'm just some random and not the particular person u seem to think I am.... i see you sure have beliefs and I made my ask sound as nice as I could considering how inappropriate your response to a certain post was. no one should be telling u to kill urself that's always too far but ... just consider how your worldviews tangibly harm the lives of others - can you truly call yourself empathetic? no hate here, other then the kind you perpetrate :(
How inappropriate my response was to something I lived through????
I was in private school, then public school, and then (fortunately) homeschooled. Homeschool was the only place where I wasn't abused. But yeah, the government totally should have forced my parents to keep me in the school where I was constantly bullied and there was racism and ableism everywhere. Oh yes, that makes perfect sense, the government should totally trample on human rights to protect me from the people who were protecting me. I should be forced to shut up and sit down and take it like a good little slut.
My worldviews don't harm anyone. I'm not abusing children. I'm not raping children. I'm not forcing children to study sexual topics. I'm not brainwashing children. And I'm 100% not the one telling people to kill themselves. I'm not even the one who's making fun of someone for enjoying the ONLY THING that has kept me alive or given me hope since I became suicidal at the age of EIGHT YEARS OLD, my fandoms.
I'm not the one who is telling people that all parents shouldn't be allowed to protect their children because some people abuse their children. Nevermind the fact that public schools around this country are actively trying to harm children and not even hiding it. They're proud to be messing up kids minds and then guiding them to mutilate their bodies. 100% not ashamed. They want that to be normal.
I don't perpetrate hate, that's why I said what I said. I love hearing other peoples' opinions when given with respect and mutual curiosity. I know the truth about schools because I lived it, and I've been fucking paying attention to independent news sources, and I remember twenty-five years ago when I was made to sit through some inappropriate shit and no one stood up for me, so I will stand up for others and say that public school is a bad deal all around. It's worse in some places than others, and not everyone has a choice, but no one should ever say that it's the ideal that the government should be forcing us to only use their schools.
Because I feel their pain; their pain is my pain. They are not alone in their suffering. The suffering that some people want me to have to endure even more of. But fuck that. The federal government has no business telling parents that they can't pull their children out of school ever.
I don't know how to stop the schools in RL, I wish I did have a solution, but when a pile of hot steaming shit comes across my dash, I tend to get triggered, and I tend to stand up to say STOP twisting the truth for your agenda. Tyranny is never ever fucking okay, and that post was pushing tyranny in the name of compassion. Two wrongs never make a right. Human rights are what we should be fighting for, not for the government to use bad things, horrific things, as justification for even more horrible things.

The Power of the Opposite Compliment
The Power of the Opposite Compliment
By Izzy Kalman, MS, NCSP Let’s say we’re kids, and you’re looking to have fun at my expense by insulting me. What can I say to stop you? This is one of the common concerns of anti-bullying advisers, as insults are by far the most common form of bullying among kids. And though they’re just words, they can make kids absolutely miserable and even drive them to suicide. There are actually many…
