It has been a while since I last posted on this blog, but thanks to the latest posts by my friend @nyahongo​, I’ve been returning to study languages.

I find that the uncertainty of situations, whether it be in study or life in general, gets in the way and makes it overwhelming to study. I have found a new way that’s helping me with remaining focused during my studies, particularly as I return to Japanese and revise content that I’ve learned previously, but am quite rusty on.

If you haven’t heard of the game Virtual Cottage, it’s a cozy game that you set a timer to complete your work within. It contains cozy sounds like lofi music, a crackling fireplace and your choice of nature sounds like wind, snow and rain. It’s assisted my learning so much, so if you struggle with focus I recommend checking it out. The last I checked it is free, so you only require a free Steam account and a computer that can handle it. You can check it out here (this is not a paid advertisement; I just adore the game).

I aim to return to creating content and sharing new posts by the many amazing creators on this site. In the meantime, I’ve created a small graphic above that I put together as a phone wallpaper. If you’re interested in it, let me know below and I’ll post a download link sometime. ♥

Day 29: Extra Curricular

I have a lot of hobbies in a pretty wide area of interests I think.

I do really love going to the gym, not just for fitness but also because it gives me a reason to get up early in the morning and energises me, so I have lots of time and energy to do more study or housework, or whatever else I might need to get done after I get home.

I generally love reading, and I try to squeeze some reading time in wherever I can. When I'm not reading for classes, my favorite genre in movies and books is horror, so a lot of my leisure reading falls into the horror category. I've been reading Jeff VanderMeer a bit recently, and I've gotten really into the concept of eco-horror. I'm always down for some recommendations if anyone has any!

A lot of my other hobbies tend to be pretty creative. I'm into d&d, bullet journalling, fun makeup looks, and I love art. Mostly my art is a kind of cartoonish style, I often do fanart for movies and cartoons, but I also do a lot of my own stuff! I've got a bunch of designs up on my redbubble, and I'm really happy with how my art has progressed over the past couple of years!

I'm also really into furbies! I've got a couple that I've customised already, and I have plans for my other furb I just need some materials and the time. If furbies are your thing I have a furb blog, but you'll definitely see them on here at some point too because I like to have the little guys on my desk if it's not already covered in my awful clown collection.

I am a fourth year university student!! I am absolutely in love with the college, friends, and town that I get to call home now. This school has helped me discover my purpose, learn more about myself, and given me a family/friends better than I could have ever hoped for.

I’m Pandora and I’m currently studying biology in university. I really want to work in forensics but I also want to teach science to kids, I recently helped my cousin who’s in grade one with her reading (it’s not science related lol) and she called me kind and ever since then she keeps on telling me that I’m the only adult who “understands” her, which is why I have this feeling that I might do well teaching kids while making science fun for them (fingers crossed)

It has been a while since I last posted an update on the language learning journey, so I’m dappling back into the basics of Japanese from the beginning of Genki 1 3rd Edition. I’ve been working through the workbook as opposed to the textbook because I still have a basic working knowledge of Japanese, I’m just very rusty.

I’m unable to do the listening activities for the workbook as I don’t have access to the audio files for this edition. It’s unfortunate because I mostly struggle with listening, but I’ll work on finding different resources to practice this.

Once again I’m using the free game Virtual Cottage to study and it’s such a cozy game, it really helps to keep me focused. Focus is definitely where I lack most, along with the discipline to remain consistent.

I’m looking forward to getting back to my old level of Japanese comprehension, but in the meantime I’m dappling in the basics. If you have any suggestions for resources, let me know and I’ll check them out.

Day 27: Least Used

Surprisingly, my least used study item is actually probably my computer. I only really tend to use it to write essays, other than that I use my ipad to watch lectures and my notebook to handwrite notes. As far as stationery goes, I don't really tend to buy things unless I'm really sure I'm going to use them, so I don't have a lot of useless equipment laying around.

Day 26: Difficult Topic

In education theory, there are a lot of different pedagogical theories and frameworks, and it can be difficult to remember them all, which principles belong to which, and who the main theorist of each is. I've never used flashcards before, but I'm thinking that once I've covered all the material this might be a good place to use them, or possibly just a table listing the main points of each to compare and distinguish them easily.

2. Studying Space. What is your setup?

My study space looks absolutely horrible right now because I’m in the middle of moving, so I’ll just pop the pic of my keyboard here. I currently have two desks in an L-shape in the corner of my living room. I have a 28″ iMac on one and a custom gaming PC on the other. I have a small bookshelf where I keep my supplies, and an iPad Air to do my graphic design and art on. I’ve also started using Goodnotes on the iPad to digitally bullet journal, but I won’t post those images as they have personal information on them.

My desk at school has the main desk and then a little shelf on top that I use as a bookshelf! Kind of messy and a little crowded, but I do love having a desk to work at in my room.
