2023 Capricorn Solstice
Friday, December 22, 2023, 03:27 UT Chart erected for Washington, DC (Thursday, December 21, 22:28 EST)
Tumblr media
Merry Yule north of the equator, and Merry Litha south of it!
I just love this chart. There is a fantastic double sextile (I think some people call them “mini grand trines” but “double sextile” is more accurately descriptive):
the Sun and Mercury Rx in Capricorn, are sextile Saturn/Pisces;
Saturn/Pisces is sextile the Moon and Jupiter Rx in Taurus;
the Sun and Mercury Rx are trine the Moon and Jupiter Rx.
An Earth sign trine giving us great potential for practical, material achievement and blessings - and Saturn/Pisces working to help, asking us to aim high. Not so much “fabulous earthly success,” though, as “living up to our higher ground.” We’re really motivated to do things. With both Mercury and Jupiter retrograde, we’re more thoughtful. If you’re working on your New Year’s Resolutions, this is good energy for coming up with sterling ones.
Warnings include being aware (wary) of fanaticism, either our own or others’; going to emotional extremes because we’re bored; and staying in toxic situations because we are related or married to the perpetators.
It will also be easy to snooze on through the promise of the double sextile. We have to actively take advantage of it.
🎄🎄🎄
This time of year always makes me think of cookies. My maternal grandma absolutely excelled as a baker, my mom was a very close second - and every December they collaborated on baking many different kinds of cookies. My younger sister and I were allowed to decorate the sugar cookies, using colored icing and various sprinkles. Good times.
Alas, I did not inherit that “baking” gene - but my family had another tradition I can pull off: dessert after Christmas dinner was always peppermint ice cream. My daughter and I improved on that when we discovered that putting some chocolate sauce on the peppermint ice cream, is ambrosia.
Every year, on or about Christmas Eve, the transiting Sun is sextile my natal Neptune. This is one Neptune thing I can and do pick up on - even as a little girl, at night I would take myself off and sit alone by the Christmas tree, enjoying the silence and the lights. No thinking about “the significance and message of the season,” just the peace and quiet.

It is useful to contemplate celestial mechanics today. On the one hand the Sun moves from Sagittarius into Capricorn, but on the other Mercury returns from Capricorn into Sagittarius again. So it goes like a cosmic dance one step forwards, two steps back. Chiron will soon go direct too along with a full moon in Cancer. Consider these two signs Sag the centaur and Capricorn the mountain goat. Both four-footed creatures. They are so unalike on the surface as adjacent signs are always a huge shift and sign of development. So there's a lot of Janus-like thinking around now time, you don't know which way to face, but it has to be both, so it's time for deep reflection, the annual review, looking backwards and forwards at the same time having that dual vision for fresh plans almost the still point in time and the Solstice is the most pivotal time for this to occur . It is worth considering how Sagittarius shifts into Capricorn, the qualities of one into that of the other, and all becomes more serious and solemn, which I don't mind at all. Yet Mercury is picking his way back to the positive philosophies of Sagittarius, so it's a rare blend of opposing qualities in a rich stew to savour. I love this time of year whether I am here in England or thousands of miles away on foreign shores. So for the full reading go to the Modern Hermeticist where he reads Robert Turner's 'Astrological Institutions' .... Being a perfect isagoge to the whole astral science; or Judgment of the nature, vertue and influence of the celestial bodies upon the terrestrial. By which active (not compulsive) virtue, all manner of questions incident to sublunary actions, affairs and conditions, are resolved according to the position of the heavens." The descriptions sound slightly archaic and quaint to modern ears but have no fear they still have accuracy and relevance. And the word used to denote Capricorn is 'solstitial'. That's exactly what we experience now a 'solstitial' moment to be savoured.

This full Moon has also been called the Long Night Moon (Mohican), as it rises during the “longest” nights of the year, near the December winter solstice. This name is doubly fitting because December’s full Moon shines above the horizon for a more extended period than most full Moons.
In Europe, ancient pagans called the December full Moon the “Moon Before Yule,” in honor of the Yuletide festival celebrating the return of the sun heralded by winter solstice.

“Yule” comes from Old English geol, which shares a history with the equivalent word from Old Norse, jól. Both these words referred to a midwinter festival centered around the winter solstice, which traditionally marked the halfway point of the winter season. After the solstice—the shortest day of the year—the days again begin to grow longer, so it’s thought that Yule was a celebration of the re-appearance of the Sun &the fertile land’s rebirth.
The celebration of Yule is one of the oldest winter celebrations in the world. Ancient people were hunters & spent most of their time outdoors. The seasons & weather played a significant part in their lives. The customs and traditions associated with it vary widely.
Scholars have connected the original celebrations of Yule to the Wild Hunt, the god Odin, and the heathen Anglo-Saxon Mōdraniht ("Mothers' Night")
Some believe it marks the rebirth of the Sun (the God) from the Earth (the Goddess) & the cold days of winter will soon begin to wane. The Goddess is seen in her virgin Maiden aspect
In towns and cities throughout Sweden during the Christmas season, large goats are constructed out of straw. It is thought that the tradition originated in ancient times, perhaps as a tribute to the god Thor, who was said to ride in a chariot pulled by goats. In Sweden the goat came to be associated with the Christmas celebration, and the Yule goat is now considered by many to be a companion or counterpart to Santa Claus.
Related festivals:
Christmas- An annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ as the son of God, primarily observed on December 25th
Hanukkah- A Jewish festival commemorating the recovery of Jerusalem & subsequent rededication of the Second Temple at the beginning of the Maccabean Revolt against the Seleucid Empire in the 2nd century BCE.
Hanukkah is observed for eight nights & days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar. The festival is observed by lighting the candles of a candelabrum with nine branches, commonly called a menorah or hanukkiah.
Kwanzaa- An annual celebration of African-American culture from December 26 to January 1st, culminating in a communal feast called Karamu, usually on the sixth day. It was created by activist Maulana Karenga, based on African harvest festival traditions from various parts of West & Southeast Africa. Kwanzaa was first celebrated in 1966.
A Kwanzaa ceremony may include drumming and musical selections, libations, a reading of the African Pledge & the Principles of Blackness, reflection on the Pan-African colors, a discussion of the African principle of the day or a chapter in African history, a candle-lighting ritual, artistic performance & finally, a feast of faith (Karamu Ya Imani).
Saturnalia-
is an ancient Roman festival and holiday in honour of the god Saturn, held on 17 December of the Julian calendar & later expanded with festivities through to 23 December. The holiday was celebrated with a sacrifice at the Temple of Saturn, in the Roman Forum & a public banquet, followed by private gift-giving, continual partying & a carnival atmosphere that overturned Roman social norms: gambling was permitted & masters provided table service for their slaves as it was seen as a time of liberty for both slaves and freedmen alike.
A common custom was the election of a "King of the Saturnalia", who gave orders to people, which were followed & presided over the merrymaking. The gifts exchanged were usually gag gifts or small figurines made of wax or pottery known as sigillaria. The poet Catullus called it "the best of days".
Other celebrations:
Feast of Epona-
Eponalia is the feast day of Gaulish Goddess Epona, the Divine Mare & in the time of the Roman Empire it was celebrated on December 18th.
Epona is known to be one of a very few Gaulish deities whose names were spread to the rest of the Roman Empire. This seems to have happened because Roman cavalry units stationed in Gaul followed Her & adopted her as their Patroness. This may have started because many of the cavalry troops were conscripted from Gaul as they were superb horsemen. From Gaul the Romans took Epona with them including to Rome where She was given her own feast day on the 18 December. They worshipped her as Epona Augusta or Epona Regina & invoked her on behalf of the Emperor. She even had a shrine in the barracks of the Imperial Bodyguard.
Hunting of the Wren-
A traditional custom carried out on the Isle of Man on the 26 December, St. Stephen's Day. It consists of groups of people going around villages and towns singing and dancing a traditional song and dance around a decorated wren pole.
The earliest and most common folklore story accounting for the origin of hunt the wren tells of a fairy/enchantress/witch whose beauty lures the men of the Isle of Man to harm, for which she is chased and is changed into the form of a wren. It is therefore in punishment for her actions that the wren is hunted on St. Stephen's Day

week of december 17th, 2023
these are written predominantly for the *rising* signs but they are also intuitively "channeled" enough that they should work for any dominant energy you have! (try your sun if you don't know rising, or more advanced readers can try moon, anywhere you have a stellium, etc and see what works best for you!)
aries: capricorn season, soon, marked by the solstice, puts the focus and highlight on your public image, and the work you do that really matters, trickling down through the generations to your descendants, genetic or otherwise. so do good work. if you can't in your career, you can in your day to day endeavors.
taurus: your week's energy is productive but internal. and it is productive to you and your path through life, but others may not see it as productive - it may not serve them, or their conventions or traditions.
gemini: retrograde mercury backs up into your 7th house again, so relationships get a revisit. maybe you're going back over old fears, old patterns, old problems. maybe you're revisiting what you love, need, or desire. but watch for recurring themes, so you can act accordingly.
cancerians: your sign does tend to be susceptible to 'cuffing season' hype, not least of all due to capricorn season meaning your 7th house season! so do make your home hygge and happy, and if you find someone you truly love let them in, but don't think you need to pair off to be happy and comfortable. go hermit (crab) mode if it's better.
leo: the beginning of capricorn season is less feisty fiery than you might like but it's a really good time to power up your daily routines as rituals; the deep meditation of a good workout, the life force in your food, the shamanism of sleep, etc.
virgo: romantic fires are stoked from capricorn season on. that may be within a pre-existing relationship, or outside of it. it could be the blossoms of a new one, or a dabbling outside of one. try not to let anyone get hurt; you are not the only one with feelings.
libra: particularly in the second half of this week, it's auspicious to make your home nice, to make it a place of restoration, which can be stimulating when it needs to or relaxing when that need arises. it should also be beautiful, without requiring excessive ownership or spending.
scorpio: if, in some small way, you can help someone in your immediate vicinity - a family member, a roommate, a neighbor, a cold or hungry person on the street - then helping them will be immensely rewarded in some surprising way later on.
sagittarius: noticeable if not extremely earthshattering events occur this week around the last degree of your sign and the first degrees of capricorn. so this can seem quite fraught. but don't act too impulsively. mercury is still retrograde after all. you do have more time than it seems. think it out first, and carefully.
capricorn: the sun into your sign starts your season off perhaps chaotically as mercury is also hanging around here at these critical degrees of 29 sagittarius and 0 capricorn. so enhance and fortify your mercury retrograde protocols!
aquarius: like it or not - and maybe you do - but you're doing deep work these days. venus this week opposing uranus in taurus helps, but you have to make choices about your public vs private lives. can you reconcile them or must you give one up?
pisces: the sagittarian quality of the week boosts the most mutable among you but can drain pisceans with the softer and gentler qualities of your sign. so let yourself get a bit tuckered out, but rest and recuperate after, before you continue.

The Sun enters Cancer today marking the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Winter Solstice in the Southern Hemisphere. The Solstice denotes the peak of the tilt of our earth of 23°, from which it tilts back again. From our perspective however it appears the Sun has reached its peak, at 23° 26' northern declination, measured from the equator.
The celestial dynamics are important to understand why we celebrate these great turning points. The Solstice and Equinox points align with the Ingresses of the Sun into cardinal signs, that denote the 2 Equinoxes and the 2 Solstices. The 4 World Points zero Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.
The Solstice is exact 21st June 14:57 UTC, may we celebrate with intentions 2023's midyear turning point!

Thursday, December 21st 2023 Sun in Sagittarius ♐️🔥and Capricorn ♑️🌎 Moon in Aries ♈️🔥and Taurus ♉️🌎
Happy Winter Solstice day (for most of my audience). Summer Solstice for those in the southern hemisphere. Either way, it’s a cardinal point in the sky signifying new action. The days begin to get longer for us here on the northern side and with the sun entering the sign of Capricorn, it gives us more opportunity to evaluate how we feel safe and secure. Most begin to reevaluate the career oriented points in their lives.
We’re also reaching the midpoint of Mercury retrograde today. Yep, we’re half way there guys but that also means that the Sun entering Capricorn and Mercury dancing backwards into Sagittarius again, are gonna “bump into each other” then head in different directions. It may feel extra retrogrady.
The most significant of the transits continues to be the opposition between Venus in Scorpio and Uranus in Taurus though, which may have you feeling like the straw that broke the camel’s back in whatever you’re dealing with. While our brains are doing so much introspection and overthinking (thanks Mercury) this transit doesn’t have to be negative. It can bring in as many good surprises into your life as not so good ones. Uranus is also retrograde (which softens the blow) and in a Venus sign in Taurus makes this more of a friendly debate between these two. Shift the perspective of whatever comes your way and see how it can benefit you in the long run.
No matter how you’re experiencing these energies, we’re wrapping up the year by evaluating the dynamic of our relationships and management of our finances in some way, shape or form. Something is about to come to light or preparing you for something that will likely come to fruition around mid-January. Are you hanging onto something or letting go? 💚💫

Sun in Capricorn Winter Solstice December 21, 2023 Astrology
Tumblr media
The Sun officially enters Capricorn on December 21, 2023 at 10:28 pm ET for the Winter Solstice.
The Sun is in Capricorn until January 20, 2024 at 9:08 am ET.
When the Sun enters Capricorn, Mercury Retrograde is close by, only a degree away. The Sun and Mercury conjunct December 22, 2023 at 1:53 pm ET.
Where there is a lack of clarity, misunderstandings, miscommunications, dishonesty or tricks of words and meanings, this is the time to look for the light to shine and reveal the truth.
The Winter Solstice marks the point where we descend to the depths of darkness of the winter season and emerge renewed with the light getting stronger, reminding us of the phoenix rising from the ashes also symbolized by Pluto in Capricorn now.
The Sun descends into the darkness with the shortest day of the year and as he rises with the days getting longer from here on, it is a symbol of a new birth and rebirth, with the promise of new light and hope for the future.
This is a great time to focus on positive thinking to deal with any of the issues that have been coming up these days with Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn. Awareness increases when you ask questions.
Much more about the Sun in Capricorn...

Solstice-Buffet of Andromedean+Blueray Sirius+Pleiadian Emerald Sun LightCodes
☀️On Solstice, from the Earth’s perspective, the Sun-Energy of Life Force and Transformation appears to Stand Still for about 3 days before reversing its direction-A Sacred Pause in the Time Space Continuum when veils thin allowing Light Portals to beam Cosmic downloads into the Crystalline Gridlines via The Frequency Holders and Light Warriors. It was shown to me (via Thoth and Anubis) that The New Moon in Gemini/ 18th June provided great assistance to this process by activating the Earth Altars (-node points of the Crystalline grid responsible for receiving and disbursing downloads) in preparation for these Cosmic Downloads.
🔥The Cosmic Downloads to the lead up to this Solstice have been a Buffet of primarily The Aquamarine (via Andromedea Gateway) LightCodes for The Age of Horus which are upheld by the New Earth Diamond /Platinum -Gold Light Codes of The Age of Ma’aT , BlueRay Sirian Codes( Builder Codes) and The Emerald Sun Codes of Pleiades (Foundational Codes) carried via primarily via The Dragon and Lion/ Feline Energies.
✨Transformation is the buzzword for this Solstice as we weave mega endings into Rebirth into the Next higher octave of Soul Growth and Expansion, each weave building on the Foundations of the Souls Learnings from The Past. Some Karmic cycles are reaching a conclusion, while some are being repeated where lessons remain unlearned.
👑This Solstice coincides with Venus/ Inanna reaching the Crown Chakra on June 21 where She will be Coronated as Queen of Heaven and Earth (with Mars, Venus n Moon all in Leo) -The Culmination of The Second Synodic Cycle of Venus as the Capricorn Metagoddess which began in Jan 2022. As the Capricorn Metagoddess , Venus / Inanna imbued us with the Qualities of The Wise Woman / Record Keeper to lay the Foundations of The Divine Principle Aspect which further supports/births The New Age/ Earth/Horus. This Journey has reached its culmination Now ( venus will remain at Crown Chakra for the next one month) and the New Synodic Cycle of Venus Begins in August 2023 as the Leo Metagoddess ie Energies of Sekhmet- The Spiritual Light Warrior of Courage and Compassion.
⚔️As mentioned before, this Solstice Gateway has a generous sprinkling of Aquamarine, BlueRay , Emerald LightCodes and Diamond Gold ie The Divine Feminine Sophia Aspect is Now well Anchored which allows The Divine masculine Energies to move into a greater functional position than before to uphold the Age of Horus/ Balance and Union. Ie The Blue Ray Lion/ Feline Dna activation via the Solar Plexus upgrades enables the Light Warriors to Now begin the task of translating the Foundational Blueprint (brought in via the Capricorn Metagoddess Archetype/ Emerald Sun/ Pleiadian Codes )into actual Building Blocks. The Sirian and Andromedean FelineDna upholds the Blueprint while the Lion Dna is associated with the grunt work of the Actual Building Process. And it is This process which is supported by Venus / Inanna in her third Synodic Cycle as The Leo Metagoddess/ Sekhmet- Solar Plexus Powered Courageous Action guided by The Heart Centered in Compassion and Grace!!
🔥🌀And since we are Talking of the New Age Construction based on Balance and Union, The Solar Plexus/Sekhmet upgrades come in conjunction with Ptah/ Throat upgrades- ie Intention matched with Action For manifestation and CoCreation of The New Age of Horus upheld by the Principles of Maat. EnLight ,In Grace, InJoy Be The Change You Want To See

Happy Yule, Winter Sosltice, It's complicated

Happy 12/21 portal!
Today is the first day of the winter solstice
AND
The sun is 0° Capricorn which marks the beginning of the season..
12/22/23,12/23/23, 12/31/23 are our final portals
of the year
Mercury moved into the sign of Capricorn on December first, but it began its retrograde transit on
December 13th, and will continue in retrograde until
New Year’s Day!
Here’s a snapshot of the current planets and as you can see there are no planets in an air element…
Tumblr media
OKAY so based on the degrees we aren’t in Capricorn season YET lol yes I lied 🤭🤷🏽‍♀️ what’s mercury rx in Capricorn without a little click-bait? Lol
This is what makes this 12/21 portal so special because right now we are still experiencing the final energy of Sagittarius season 2023 during the day and we transition into Capricorn season later into the day.. (around 9:30 PM CST)
Now back to Mercury and the current lack of the air element. Naturally Mercury is at home in the air element of Gemini so I feel like a lot of things will get lost in translation. We know the typical themes for mercury retrograde like don’t sign contracts or go back to your ex but with mercury in Capricorn you could have a miscommunication or misunderstanding in a work setting or it’s best to stay away from signing documents or starting a new job, tell them you’ll start January 2nd lol
Remember mercury will transition BACK into Sagittarius (as a retrograde planet typically backtracks; being that it is only 2° )

week of june 18th, 2023
aries: did you know venus is preparing to go retrograde in your romantic and creative 5th house? she enters the shadow phase of that cycle this week. as early as possible this week, take care of any romantic/aesthetic tasks that you don't want to backfire later on.
taurus: if it can be helped don't purchase a home, sign a lease, or renovate starting from this week into october/november. but if you *have* to do it, do it *asap* because your ruling planet venus goes into the shadow of her retrograde this week in leo. meanwhile a lot of squares cause chafing in some way but all is actually auspicious to you; you need squares to grow and growing is seldom comfortable.
gemini: it's lucky you're such a fluid and light creature because this week's mutability will have many feeling that they are backtracking. this may include you especially, but you will at least always know, if only subconsciously, that sometimes a little detour saves you time even if it covers more physical distance.
cancerians: the start of You season comes in with the solstice. it probably has you feeling lucky and glowy, which is great! on the other hand some venusian activity can have you, soon, dealing with financial struggles, so have all that in order asap before she retrogrades in leo.
leo: solstice time is probably always a mystical wyrd time for you, solar one. and this year's upcoming venus retrograde in your sign adds a distinctly romantic tone to it all. enjoy it but try not to get swept up in the drama too much.
virgo: ceres trines pluto and pops back into libra from your sign for the second time this year, thanks to her recent retrograde. this interaction with pluto is, technically, good, but nothing involving pluto is ever truly easy. whatever difficulties you are overcoming, let it be to build your character, not to crush you into conformity with what you were taught by society or even by your own mother.
libra: this week, let your focus be nourishment. first for your body, then for your public situation, whatever it may be. your legacy. your social media profiles if you use them. or maybe you realize now that it is time to shut them down for a bit?
scorpio: the advent of cancer season and the solstice *are* good for you, but they are *full* of heightened emotion. not that you can't handle that, but it isn't going to be beneficial in any lazy sort of way. get ready to be up and moving. plutonic activity likewise is broadly auspicious and yet requires removing dead weight.
sagittarius: there aren't many things that put you into introvert mode but venus retrograde in leo can definitely do that. she doesn't go retrograde this week, not for a few weeks, but she does enter the shadow phase of that cycle, so prepare yourself for any long-distance flings from the past to arrive looking for you.
capricorn: the solstice and the start of cancer season signal a relationship-focused period for you and if you can't stomach the thought of changes in your love life, you can try to channel this into a business partnership or something like that. but cancer loves love, so, you know, be ready.
aquarius: i'm sure you're not one to panic about retrogrades and that's a wonderful thing. at the same time, it will be helpful to prepare for the layers of synchronicity to be brought about by venus in your house of relationships. she has been there a while but now enters the shadow "zone" of her retrograde, coming up to encompass all the rest of the summer and into the autumn (in northern seasons, anyway.)
pisces: brace yourself for a fairly hard week. it's not likely to be earth-shattering things, nothing that will ruin your life, but the struggle is real and may at some points feel like the end of the world. the magic of your sign is you survive worlds ending, you bring new worlds into existence, and each one is better than the last.
