11, 19 and 23 for the fic asks 🤍
11. What's an idea for a fit you've had that you'll probably never write?
Last time I got asked this I said a horror themed catb one and look what we have now... This time round though it's hard to say, I have like ten ideas a day and give up on them all, I have an idea for a Mae x reader fic thats basically all smut but I doubt I'll ever actually write it because im so slow these days at that kinda stuff.
19. What's the longest fix you've written?
I think multi chapter its Pacifier or Oxygen? (I will put them back up when I've backed them up btw)
23. What's the most personal pic you've ever written?
The Waves was pretty personal because I wrote it not that long after a big ptsd meltdown I had and based a lot of it on that. Alter Her Pacifier, because Amelia is just like me, overly shy, eating disordered and mentally unwell, and crushes on older guys haha, also idk if anyone remembers You're Not the Only One the Sam Fender one, Wyn was basically me in high school haha.

Thallo unveils the fantastic ‘Pluo’ visual out now via Cosh Records
On the new single, Thallo showcases her unique sound, one that is enveloping, otherworldly, and multi-instrumented, spanning bedroom and dream-pop with subtle, textured jazz infusions and contemporary classic touches, both ethereal and utterly enthralling. Pluo translates as ‘feathering’ in English, meaning ‘lightly snowing’ which relates to the song’s poignant opening line “I gather dust which is feathering stillness.” Inspired by the effects of a sudden illness that Thallo suffered in 2020 which caused chronic knee pain and debilitating mobility issues, Pluo touches on the peculiar pain of watching the world return to normal following lockdown, whilst Thallo was trapped in what she describes as “My own personal lockdown.” As she expands, “I felt so stuck, unable to return to my normal life. But most of all, the song is a cry of fear for the loneliness and hopelessness of being left behind whilst everyone else moves forward.” Pluo’s accompanying video, a collaboration with Welsh channel Lŵp (S4C), takes inspiration from psychological horror and is filmed at the popular ghost-hunting spot Bron y Garth Hospital, a former 1800s workhouse/hospital now abandoned and frozen in-time, as Thallo explains “The setting perfectly mirrors Pluo’s lyrics of feeling stuck and deteriorating.” It sees Thallo wake to find herself in a blood-filled bath on the decaying hospital floor, what ensues is a struggle to escape the derelict building peppered with eerie imagery and horrifying flashbacks that lead to the chilling conclusion - that Thallo is in fact dead and trapped in purgatory. Thallo is the work of Gwynedd, North Wales/London based artist Elin Edwards, over the course of her debut Nhw EP  (2018) and a series of highly received singles, notably 2021’s  Mêl, Pressed and Preserved, The Water, and more recently Carry Me (2022) from the forthcoming Crescent EP,  she has garnered radio support from  Sian Eleri (Radio 1) and Huw Stephens (BBC 6 Music, Radio Wales), with Thallo also recording a session at Maida Vale, and received  glowing press coverage in Wonderland, Noctis, God Is In The TV Zine, When The Horn Blows and many other blogs both UK and Stateside. Thallo has performed at The Great Escape and is booked to play 2023’s SXSW.
Ar ei sengl newydd Pluo, mae Thallo yn arddangos ei sain unigryw, un sy’n cydio, yn arallfydol, ac yn aml-offerynnol, yn gyfuniad o 'bedroom pop' a 'dream pop' gyda cyffyrddiadau o jazz cynnil ac elfennau clasurol cyfoes, sy’n creu naws synfyfyriol tra hefyd yn hollol swynol. “Casglu llwch sy'n pluo llonyddwch.” Wedi’i ysbrydoli gan effeithiau salwch sydyn a ddioddefodd Thallo yn 2020 a achosodd boen cronig yn ei phen-gliniau a phroblemau symudedd, mae Pluo yn cyffwrdd â’r boen ryfedd o wylio’r byd yn dychwelyd i normal ar ôl y clo, tra bod Thallo yn gaeth yn yr hyn y mae’n ei ddisgrifio fel “fy nghlo personol fy hun.” Dwedai Thallo “Roeddwn i'n teimlo mor sownd, yn methu â dychwelyd i fy mywyd normal. Ond yn bennaf oll, gwaedd o ofn yw’r gân am yr unigrwydd a’r anobaith o gael eich gadael ar ôl tra bod pawb arall yn symud ymlaen.”
Mae’r fideo yn cael ei hysbrydoli gan y genre ffilm arswyd seicolegol ac wedi ei saethu yn y man hela ysbrydion poblogaidd Ysbyty Bron y Garth, cyn wyrcws/ysbyty o’r 1800au sydd bellach wedi’i adael yn wag ac wedi rhewi mewn amser. Eglurai Thallo “Mae’r lleoliad yn adlewyrchu geiriau ‘Pluo’ o deimlo’n sownd ac yn dirywio.” Mae’r fideo’n gweld Thallo’n ffeindio’i hun yn deffro mewn bath llawn gwaed ar lawr yr ysbyty, yr hyn sy’n dilyn yw brwydr i ddianc o’r adeilad adfeiliedig, yn frith o ddelweddau iasol ac ôl-fflachiadau arswydus sy’n arwain at y syweddoliad at ddiwedd y fideo – bod Thallo mewn gwirionedd wedi marw ac yn gaeth mewn purdan. Cynhyrchu a Chyfarwyddo - Aled Wyn Jones Cyfarwyddo, DOP a Golygu - Andy Pritchard Celf - Jamie Walker Gyda diolch i Andy Smallbone a Virginia Chuck - Ysbyty Bron Y Garth Geiriau/Lyrics: Casglu llwch sy’n pluo llonyddwch Fel diwrnod diddiwedd Fel diwrnod diddiwedd yn dal i ddod Arhosa fan hyn Dwi methu symud o’r unfan di-ddim Dwi methu symud o’r unfan Mor rhyfedd gwylio dy hun yn dirywio Fel diwrnod diddiwedd Fel diwrnod diddiwedd yn dal i ddod Arhosa fan hyn Dwi methu symud o’r unfan di-ddim Arhosa fan hyn Dwi methu symud o’r unfan di-ddim Arhosa fan hyn Dwi methu symud o’r unfan di-ddim (Casglu llwch sy’n pluo llonyddwch fel diwrnod diddiwedd, fel diwrnod diddiwedd yn dal i ddod)
 Pluo lyrics (English translation):
I gather dust which is feathering stillness like an endless day, like an endless day that keeps coming Stay here I can’t move from this useless spot I can’t move from this spot So strange watching yourself deteriorate like an endless day, like an endless day that keeps coming Stay here I can’t move from this useless spot Stay here I can’t move from this useless spot I can’t move from this spot Stay here I can’t move from this useless spot I can’t move from this spot (I gather dust which is feathering stillness like an endless day, like an endless day that keeps coming)

Hiya everyone! Wyn here with today's White Rose Week 2021 entry, which is flirting! Now, today features a genderbent Weiss in honor of my friend CelestialPrincess, who could not participate due to scheduling conflicts, as well as for Akirou 02, who wrote one of my all time favorite fics, They're Yours Too! I hope everyone enjoys, and I will see you tomorrow with another day!

Flirting
Ruby Rose can feel her eye twitching as the drunk white haired wolf Faunus man continues his verbal assault on all four of her tender, not innocent in the least, but still offended ear drums. It wouldn't be so bad if he was at least good at it, but even she's starting to think that it's impossible.
"Sho, you should gib me a chance, cause I'm… ummm…"
She's pretty sure he's trying to flirt. She's actually almost sure he's trying to flirt, and for the life of her she doesn't understand why! She's nothing special, just another non descript rabbit faunus stuck on an overnight layover in Mantle while trying to get home to Vale. Not for the first time since she left on this trip, she wishes she hadn't agreed to come to Atlas to meet James Ironwood on behalf of the Rose Weapons Corporation.
She especially despises being the Heiress of the company her mother, a successful huntress, founded after her retirement.
"I got it!" He grins drunkenly at her as he pounds a fist into his hand. "I'm not a dolt!"
She couldn't help it. She couldn't stop her hand from colliding with her face, then slowly dragging it's way down her fair skin in her… She's honestly not sure if it's because she's exasperated, or because her older half brother Xiang would be crying at how badly this guy can flirt. "So I should leave with you because you're not a dolt?" She asks, getting an enthusiastic nod of the head in reply.
"Not only am I not a dolt, but I'm also a virgin!" He declares in his eagerness, a goofy smile on his face. One that grows as he takes another sip of his drink, what appears to be a vodka on the rocks by the look and smell of it. And she's convinced he's had at least two too many.
"Look, I'm flattered that you want to lose your v-card to me, but I have to pass." She replies calmly, feeling her heart break a bit at the sad puppy look that comes across his face. "I'm only here for the night."
"See?" He declares as his drunken smile returns in force. "You can make a man of me, then you'll never see me again! It's a win-win!"
"Uh huh." She mumbles as she motions for the bartender to top off her own wine glass. If she's going to keep listening to this, then she might as well as go ahead and get buzzed. "What's your name?" She asks, deciding she needs to give the source of her irritation a proper name other than Drunken Wolf Idiot.
"It's Eis, and did you know you have really pretty eyes?" He adds the last wistfully as he stares into them, making her stare into his own sky blues. She has to admit, he has gorgeous eyes, and after taking a liberal sip of her wine, she has to admit he's not too bad looking. Now if only he could actually flirt.
"You're not the first person to tell me that, Eis." She replies as she offers him her hand. "I'm…" Before she can introduce herself, a second drunk with dark skin and wearing a fedora pushes him into her, making her spill her wine as well as his vodka onto her dress. "Awwww, oatmeal cookies!" She swears as she grabs a napkin and tries desperately to clean herself off.
"Hey, Eis? There you go buddy!" Fedora cries out before he begins to cackle drunkenly.
"Flynt, you dolt!" The wolf named Eis roars as he quickly turns and shoves him away. Meanwhile, giving up on getting herself cleaned up, Ruby finally makes a bad decision and simply motions for a refill. If she has to keep dealing with this crap, then she's going to be good and drunk. Besides, all her clothes are back at the airship port, which means she's going to have to find a twenty four hour laundry or something to wash said clothes while praying she doesn't get arrested for being naked in public.
So, as her Mama Raven would say, time to load up on liquid courage and then wrestle the Ursa to get your weapon back.
"Damn, I'm so sorry." Eis murmurs as he turns back around and frowns. She's pretty sure she's a mess. She can feel her soaked bra starting to stick to her skin, as well as her skirt sticking to her bare…
She really doesn't want to know if a certain part of her anatomy can get independently drunk as well. It's a constant struggle to make sure it doesn't get her into trouble as it is.
"Look, it's fine. Can you just tell me where I can go to clean up?" She asks in irritation as she grabs at the bottle of red wine and simply tilts it up, spilling the contents into her mouth and down her throat in a fashion that would have her brother and the rest of her friends cheering her on. Not for the first time, she wishes she hadn't had quite as much fun at Beacon as she did, and had taken her studies and training a bit more seriously.
Nodding, he offers her an arm. "You can get cleaned up at my place." He replies quietly, obviously a bit sobered up. "I'm sorry."
"Don't worry about it." She replies firmly as she glares at him. "And… thanks." She adds the last as her gaze softens. Offering the bartender her credit card, she makes sure he bills her for one more bottle of wine. If she has to keep listening to Eis's flirting, she definitely needs the liquid courage the fermented beverage provides.
Especially since he really is cute, and she's now tempted to lose her own virginity to him as well...
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
"Wow, nice place." Ruby admits as the cab pulls up to the curb of a multi level apartment complex in downtown Atlas. She has to admit, he's been a polite gentleman during the entire trip, even trying to ignore the fact that her skirt has been slowly riding up her bare bottom to reveal it as well as her constantly wagging cotton tail.
"I live here with my twin sister." He replies as he struggles to look everywhere but at her exposed rear, while she takes another deep pull of the wine bottle still in her hand. "She works for the family company, while I am a huntsman."
This gets her attention. Her dream was always to follow in her mother's footsteps, but an accident when she was on a hunt left her with permanent nerve damage to her legs. Nothing painful, but still unable to use her semblance to its full effectiveness. "I was a licensed Huntress in Vale." She admits to him quietly as he pays the driver and gets out, offering her a hand out next. "Got hurt on a hunt, and had to quit."
He smiles sadly at her as she struggles to lower her skirt back down on her bottom. "My sister lost her sword arm during her last hunt. Her body rejected the prosthesis."
"Damn." She mutters before finishing the bottle, while struggling to stay upright on legs that are quickly refusing to continue to function. But she can't help but to squeak as she suddenly gets scoop up into surprisingly powerful arms, a smiling Eis looking at her.
"See? I knew I would sweep you off your feet before the night was out." He declares as he walks towards the door, the doorman nodding as he opens it for them.
"Finally! You learned how to flirt!" She declares with a giggle as she cuddles into his chest, enjoying the movement of powerful muscles obviously hidden underneath his dress shirt.
She almost wants to see them…
"I admit, there was more liquid courage pumping through my veins than blood at the time." He replies as he carries her through the lobby and towards the elevators. "But, I do believe we have traded places now."
"Ayup. And how can a beefcake like you still be single?!" She blinks as he chuckles while shaking his head.
"Willow, my twin, doesn't help matters there." He replies as the doors open and he steps in. "She firmly believes very few women are good for me."
"She's just being a good sister then." Fuck, he smells really good. And his wolf ears are so freaking cute! "My older brother's an asshole. But you? You're so cute I could almost eat you up like a tasty snack!"
Eis chuckles as he continues to hold her securely in his arms. "And you claim I'm bad at flirting?" He asks as he looks at her with those sky blues she's rapidly getting lost in.
"I'm drunk. I'm allowed to be bad at it." She declares with a wink. And then her sensitive nose catches the scent of spoiling wine, making her frown. "I stink."
"It's not that… WHAT ARE YOU DOING, YOU DOLT?!" She can't help but giggle as she stops unbuttoning her blouse to look at him.
"I'm stinky." Is her simple response before she returns to unbuttoning her red and black blouse, while the doors ding. But she can't help but to laugh as the white wolf makes a mad dash down the hallway and towards one of only two doors down the entire corridor.
Setting her down on her feet, she keeps laughing as he pats his pockets, obviously looking for a key or a scroll. Meanwhile, she finishes unbuttoning her blouse and slips out of it. And the look on his face as she stands there in just her bra, skirt, and heels, her blouse in her hands is absolutely priceless.
She can feel the warmth starting in her core. A warmth that won't be denied…
They barely get through the door before her lips are against his, while her hands work at unbuckling his belt. It's been a long twenty five years of chaste virginity, and her frustration is at a boiling point. She can feel her tail wagging so quickly it almost feels like it's going to fall off or go flying off, but she doesn't care. She's still fairly young, far from home, and he did present an excellent argument in that they'll never see each other again after tonight.
Ruby Rose is moaning within seconds. She is soon screaming within minutes. And Eis is full of shit if he's still a virgin in her eyes after bringing her to her first real orgasm ever. The first of many. But neither the rabbit faunus or the wolf faunus realize that she had moved a little bit too quickly, neither of them even considering using any kind of protection whatsoever...
/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\/\
Eis Schnee awakens with a start, clutching his head and groaning in his discomfort. After agreeing to go out with his partner, Flynt Coal, to a local pub popular with travelers simply passing through, he soon found himself drunk and flirting with…
All he can remember is her brilliant quicksilver eyes. Those and how much he had made her scream as they made passionate love in his now partially destroyed bed.
Glancing at the opposite side of said piece of furniture, he sighs as he realizes that she was already gone, only the smell of her perfume to prove the fact that she even existed. Noticing his bladder and the fact that it is demanding to be emptied, he finally stands and rushes into the bathroom, groaning at the fact that despite her absence, she still left several bite marks on his shoulders and chest, including one that appears to have drawn some blood.
He's more than a bit concerned that she's mate marked him, but he soon puts it out of his mind as he smells the first aroma of freshly brewed coffee coming from the kitchen. Grabbing a pair of shorts, he stops long enough to put them on before exiting and joining his sister, Willow.
"Good morning, Twit. I see you finally took advantage of me being gone and punched your v-card." Willow, like him, is unusually tall for a woman at six foot, one inches in height thanks to their birth father, a Mountain of a wolf faunus man. With her long, ankle length white hair, brilliant ruby red eyes, and curvy figure, she is possibly the most highly sought after bachelorette in all of Atlas and Mantle, despite her missing limb.
"Indeed, dolt. It was nice having the place to myself for a change." He replies quietly as he helps himself to the coffee. Looking around, he sighs as he notices that, once again, there is no sign of the young mystery woman who came home with him last night. A few small clues in the fact that his own clothes are still strewn about, the smell of laundry detergent and fabric softeners cling to the air, and her empty wine bottle is still in the garbage.
"Then perhaps I should return to Vale more often." She replies quietly as she slowly sips at her coffee, the mug held securely in her sole hand. "I found myself having a rather lovely evening of my own with a particularly handsome man around our age."
"Oh?" He asks curiously as he sits next to her and grabs at the morning paper. "Please say you at least caught his name." He adds while opening it to the classifieds to look for a small hunt of some kind to stay busy.
"Xiang Xiao Long, my dear twit. And let me guess, you once again showed your lack of manners by not introducing yourself properly?" She asks while shaking her head in disbelief.
"I will admit to being quite intoxicated. So much so that even Dad would have been lecturing me."
"Ouch. When even Daddy would be raising hell as he calls it, you know you overdid it somehow." She admits as she sets her coffee down and checks her messages. "I wish the guild would leave me alone." She suddenly blurts out angrily as she throws her scroll across the room and into a wall. "Why would I take a contract now?! When I am a diminished weakling!"
Seeing the coming meltdown, Eis puts his own search for work to the side to wrap his arms around his volatile twin. "Be at peace, sister. I'll go have a word with the general."
She nods as she bursts into tears while clinging to him. "Is it not bad enough to be a cripple, Eis?! Is it not torture enough to not even be able to look at myself in a mirror without feeling like a weakling?!"
"Shhhh, you are not a cripple, Noiry. You are the strongest woman I know. Not many can continue on like you have, living your life as you do with courage and passion." He whispers to her as he rubs her back.
All thoughts of figuring out who his mystery partner flee his mind as he begins to rock his sibling gently, while she weeps into his chest with almost bone shaking sobs of sorrow. It would be several hours before he is able to return to his room to make his bed, discovering a bracelet of some kind left behind on his mysterious guest's side of his bed. A bracelet with a burning rose set in the middle…

Ruby sighs as she settles deeper into her seat in the business class section of the Melta Airlines airship. After the events of her drunken night, as well as the rush to wash her clothes and get back to the airship port, she can only hope no one saw her walk of shame. Both of her mothers would kill her for pulling a Xiang, and Robin would be giving her shit for it for years to come.
But wow! What a night before all the rushing around!
As she settles down even more into her seat, while also curling up under the blanket she bought at the port, she is beginning to drift off when her scroll begins to vibrate insistently. Opening one silver eye, she begins to swear softly as she sees her older brother's grinning face on the screen. Grabbing an earbud out of her purse, she sighs as she puts it into one human ear and pushes the green button. "What?"
"Damn sis, is that any way to greet your favorite brother?"
"You're my only brother, thank the Goddesses, and I'm hung over."
"Awwww, poor poor bunny. It's been too Xiao Long since I took you out, hasn't it?" The older blonde replies impishly.
"Oh shut up, you obnoxious dragon!" Ruby snarls as she digs in her purse for some asprin or something to make the pounding in her head go away. "What do you want?!"
"I met someone."
"What's their name?" She asks as she motions to a flight attendant for something to drink, grateful the woman brings a bottle of water a moment later and not soda or alcohol.
"Her, thanks. I think I'm done with non binaries since Blake broke my heart and all." She can't help but to have a small moment of sympathy for her bisexual disaster of a brother. He had loved Blake Belladonna deeply, and the nonbinary panther faunus had broken his heart into pieces when they decided they were more interested in the fairer sex than him. Ruby and Raven both still have some choice words for the panther the next time they cross either woman's paths.
"Wow, an actual woman this time? You must be losing your touch with men again." She can't help but to tease him. She recognizes that tone of voice, and she wants him to stay positive.
"Correction: a black wolf faunus woman. A perfect black wolf faunus woman." She smiles at the delight in his voice, and quickly takes the headache medicine in her hand so that she can keep him on topic. "Tell me about her."
Ruby Rose keeps smiling as she settles back into her chair, under her new blanket, and listens to her brother tell her excitedly about this new woman he met while in Vale, while she was there on a business trip. At least until she realizes that her bracelet is missing…

The Orang Asli of Peninsular Malaysia suffer from the highest poverty rate among the multi-ethnic groups that make up Malaysia. Numbering at around 217,000, the 18 major Orang Asli tribes account for a little over 0.6% of Malaysia’s population.
While their numbers are small, their native territories are spread across the forests of Peninsular Malaysia, known to be the oldest rainforest in the world, and possesses one of the highest biodiversity zones on earth.
“The indigenous peoples or Orang Asli have lived throughout the forests of Peninsular Malaysia for more then 18,000 years,” Dr Lim Teck Wyn, founder and technical director of Resource Stewardship Consultants (RESCU) tells New Naratif. Dr Lim spent many years studying elephant-human conflict as a result of deforestation in North Malaysia.
He added that the Malaysian forests contain many endemic and endangered species such as the tigers, tapirs and pangolins, as well as many species and medicines that have yet to be discovered by science. The animistic belief system and nature-based way of life of the Orang Asli have enabled them to live harmoniously with the ecosystem. Although often neglected and marginalised by mainstream society, they thrive where the forests are intact and undisturbed.
Unfortunately, intrusions into native ancestral land continue unabated. The most recent one is the state of Selangor’s plan to degazette 97% of the last remaining urban forest—the Kuala Langat Forest Reserve—which will cut down the presently protected land from 985 hectares to a mere 28 hectares.
The plan for a mixed development project has sent shockwaves through environmentalist groups and the 2,000 strong Temuan Orang Asli community who live off the forest.
Temuan artist Shaq Koyok who grew up hunting and gathering in the jungle has spearheaded a campaign to stop the degazettement. He says his community depended on the forest for their subsistence, their health and spiritual faith.
“The forest is our supermarket and our pharmacy. We not only obtain our food and medicines from it, but our identity and beliefs are linked to the forest. We collect medicinal plants for our ceremonies which form an integral part of our faith and spiritual connection to the forest,” he says.
Environmentalists have also pointed out that the forest’s peat swamp plays an important role as a carbon sink and biodiversity conservation of critically endangered species such as the hardwood Meranti Bakau, the Malayan sun bear, the pygmy flying squirrel, the slow loris, and the rare Langat red fighting fish.
The current lockdown to fight the Covid-19 pandemic has slowed down the process, which Shaq is grateful for.  “We are asking for a delay in the degazettement in order to hold consultation with the local community, and right now everything is at a standstill,” he says.
The machines are quiet and the Orang Asli are safe—for now.
But when the pandemic is over, the onus appears to be on the Orang Asli to mount blockades or to prove over and over again in court their legal right to live and hunt on their ancestral land.

it’s not like you intended to (part 1)
me, posting a multi chapter to a fandom with approximately three people: oh gee golly i hope this one does well!!
anyways here’s my emwyn crack
part 2
Bronwyn wakes up around three to footsteps in her kitchen.  Go to bed, Fiona, she thinks.  It’s late, I’m trying to sleep.
She rolls over and tries to ignore it, then remembers Fiona hasn’t been her roommate in years.
She freezes, suddenly terrified, wondering who the hell is in her house in the dead of night.  The footsteps are soft, but still noisy enough to wake her up.  They seem to shuffle around, probably in the kitchen, clearly unable to tell where they’re going.  Bronwyn hears what she assumes to be a chair wobbling, then a crash and a hushed “shit!” and she can’t help but think that whoever is in her house isn’t very good at burglary.  She stays put for a bit, listening to the burglar stumble around in her kitchen, until there’s another loud crash followed by what seems to be moaning.
In an act of something closer to curiosity than fear, Bronwyn pulls out her phone, dials the number for the police, and tiptoes into the kitchen.  Lying next to the table and a chair on its side, clutching her leg, is a girl.  She’s young, probably Bronwyn’s age, blonde, incredibly pretty, and clearly drunk.
“...What the fuck?” Bronwyn asks.
The girl moans again.
“Are you alright?”
The girl rolls over.  “My leg,” she slurs.
“Alright,” Bronwyn says.  “C’mon.  Let’s get you up.”  She reaches down and pulls the girl up, then slips an arm around her shoulders.  The girl takes half a step and shouts.
“Shit,” Bronwyn whispers.  “You better not have broken your leg on my chair.”
The girl groans in response.
“Right, then.  D’you mind if I pick you up?”
The girl nods and throws her arms around Bronwyn’s shoulders in a sort-of hug.  She goes limp when Bronwyn lifts her legs off the ground and carries her to the couch, where she curls into a ball and begins to cry.  She’s sitting in the same position when Bronwyn returns with a glass of water.
“Drink this,” she commands as she sits down on the other side of the stained couch.  The girl does, choking it down despite the sobs she’s fighting.  “Do you… want a blanket or something?”
The girl nods.
Bronwyn stands again and walks to the nearby closet, which she pauses in front of for a second, considering.  This could very well be a scam or a way to get into her house and rob her or something, but the girl also seems very drunk.  She grabs the blanket and returns to the couch after a short moral debate ruling in favor of the girl just being really, really drunk.
“Here,” she says as she hands it to the girl, who is still in tears.  “Can I see your leg?”  Again, the girl just nods, so Bronwyn sits and pulls it into her lap.  Clutching the blanket, the girl watches as Bronwyn inspects it, occasionally prodding and prompting whimpers.
“It looks fine, but I can’t promise it isn’t broken.  If you’re still hurting tomorrow morning, I’ll take you to the hospital, alright?”
“Okay,” the girl mumbles, the first clear thing she’s said since Bronwyn’s woken up.
“What’s your name?” Bronwyn asks.  “What are you doing in my house in the middle of the night?  How the hell did you even get in here?”
“M’ name’s Emma,” the girl says.  “This ‘s my house.”  Bronwyn sighs.
“Right.  My name is Bronwyn.  This is my flat, and it’s the middle of the night, and you’re drunk.  I’m going to let you stay, okay?  You can sleep on the couch.”
Emma sniffles and nods.  “M’kay.  Sleep on th’ couch… m’kay.”
“What happened, Emma?” Bronwyn asks, because she’s curious, and because she knows Emma will tell her.
Emma sniffs again, and then, voice breaking, says, “He left me.”
Bronwyn’s face falls.  She moves to hug Emma, who again begins to cry.  “He left me, ‘Wyn.  Said I was too caught up on his grandpa.”
Bronwyn flinches as Emma sobs into her shoulder.  “You were… in love with his grandfather?”
Emma lets out a howl, then says in a voice at least an octave higher than normal, “Not anymore!”
Bronwyn nods and pats her back, making a mental note to question Emma about what in the name of god she was talking about tomorrow.  “Okay, Em.  Why don’t you go to sleep?  I’ll even take you back to my bed, if you like.”  Under her breath, she adds, “It’s not like I’m going to be sleeping anytime soon.”
Emma nods again, and stretches her arms out toward Bronwyn when she stands.  Bronwyn complies and lifts her, but Emma wraps her arms around her neck and refuses to let go.  It takes a second for her to catch on, but when she does, Bronwyn rolls her eyes.  She lifts Emma and carries her back to her bedroom, dropping her on the bed with a sigh.
Emma snuggles into Bronwyn’s pillows and seems to fall asleep almost immediately, leaving Bronwyn to tuck her in.  She does so, feeling a strange sense of intimacy, and lingers at the doorway, wrestling with the nagging thought that she should kiss Emma on the forehead or something equally mothering.  She doesn’t.
———
The first thing Emma feels when she wakes up is confused.  She doesn’t recognize the room she’s in, and she’s tucked very firmly into this stranger’s bed, and according to the clock next to her it’s noon.
Then the headache hits.
She’s clearly been drunk, she realizes, and then waking up in a stranger’s bed takes on a whole new level of what the fuck.  She’s still fully clothed, which is a good sign.  Battling nausea and the spinning floor, she stands up and begins to look for the owner of the bed.  Pain shoots through her left leg, but she forces herself through it and hobbles on.
She finds a girl sitting on the countertop in the kitchen, drinking something out of a mug.  Her curly hair sticks out at odd angles and there are bags under her eyes.  It’s clear she hasn’t slept.
“Is this your house?” Emma asks immediately.
“It is,” says the girl on the counter.  “Do you remember last night?  Even just a bit?”
Emma shakes her head.  “Did we…”
The girl is quick to interrupt her.  “No, no.  You broke into my flat and cried about a boy.  I’m Bronwyn, by the way.”
“Oh my god.  Oh my god, I’m so sorry.  I swear I’m not like that most of the time.”
Bronwyn chuckles into her mug.  “I figured.  You want some?”  She gestures to the mug.  “It’s hot chocolate.”
“Do you have any coffee?”
“Of course,” Bronwyn says.  She leaps off the counter and begins to fidget with the coffee machine.
“Thank you,” Emma says.  “You really didn’t have to let me stay.  And you really don’t need to be making me coffee right now.”
“I know that.”  Bronwyn is facing away, but Emma can hear her smile.  “You don’t need to thank me.  It’s the least I could do.  You seemed like you were pretty beat up.”
“Yeah,” is all Emma can say.
There’s a short pause until Bronwyn breaks it with, “So… his grandfather, huh?”
Emma groans and collapses onto the counter.  “Shut up!” she shouts.  “Just let me forget about it!  It was only for the money!”
“Oh, so you have a thing for rich boys?” Bronwyn teases.
“Hey!  I like rich girls, too,” Emma protests.  “I won’t discriminate if they’ve got money.”
“Of course,” Bronwyn says.  “I’m so sorry.  D’you want some breakfast?  Or lunch, rather?”  She turns around as the coffee pot begins to gurgle.
“You really don’t need to feed me.”
“I know.  I also know that the hangover you must have is a bitch.  I’m offering.  Do you want a sandwich?”
“Yes, please.”
Again, Bronwyn busies herself at the counter, this time assembling Emma’s sandwich.  She turns around when she’s nearly finished and asks, “You aren’t allergic to anything, yeah?”
“I’m not,” Emma says.  “What are you making?”
“Peanut butter and jelly.”  Bronwyn hands the sandwich to her and heads back to the coffee machine to pour some for Emma.
“Thank you,” Emma says.
“You can sit down, y’know,” Bronwyn responds.  “How’s your leg, by the way?  You hit it on a chair pretty bad last night.”
“Hurts like a bitch.  D’you reckon it’s broken?”  Emma perches herself on a chair at the table.  Bronwyn sits next to her and presents a mug of coffee.
“Could be.  I’ll run you to the doctor’s later.  Eat up, for now.”
“Bronwyn, please-”
“Well, I don’t suppose you drove here like that last night?”  Emma shakes her head meekly.  “Then if you’ve got a car it isn’t here, and unless you’ve got a phone on you, which I doubt you do, I’m not letting you walk out of here.  You’ll just make your leg worse.”  Bronwyn takes a sip of her hot chocolate and glares at the other girl over the top of her mug.
Emma checks her pockets to no avail.  “Fine, then.  Can I at least pay you?”
“No,” Bronwyn says.  “Let me be nice.”
“Then you’re my friend now,” Emma says, “and you’re stuck with me forever.”
“I’d be all right with that.”

Hubble & Gaia accurately weigh the Milky Way
ESA - Hubble Space Telescope logo. 7 March 2019
Globular clusters surrounding the Milky Way (artist’s impression)
In a striking example of multi-mission astronomy, measurements from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and the ESA Gaia mission have been combined to improve the estimate of the mass of our home galaxy the Milky Way: 1.5 trillion solar masses. The mass of the Milky Way is one of the most fundamental measurements astronomers can make about our galactic home. However, despite decades of intense effort, even the best available estimates of the Milky Way’s mass disagree wildly. Now, by combining new data from the European Space Agency (ESA) Gaia mission with observations made with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, astronomers have found that the Milky Way weighs in at about 1.5 trillion solar masses within a radius of 129 000 light-years from the galactic centre. Previous estimates of the mass of the Milky Way ranged from 500 billion to 3 trillion times the mass of the Sun. This huge uncertainty arose primarily from the different methods used for measuring the distribution of dark matter — which makes up about 90% of the mass of the galaxy.
ESA’s Gaia satellite
“We just can’t detect dark matter directly,” explains Laura Watkins (European Southern Observatory, Germany), who led the team performing the analysis. “That’s what leads to the present uncertainty in the Milky Way’s mass — you can’t measure accurately what you can’t see!” Given the elusive nature of the dark matter, the team had to use a clever method to weigh the Milky Way, which relied on measuring the velocities of globular clusters — dense star clusters that orbit the spiral disc of the galaxy at great distances [1]. “The more massive a galaxy, the faster its clusters move under the pull of its gravity” explains N. Wyn Evans (University of Cambridge, UK). “Most previous measurements have found the speed at which a cluster is approaching or receding from Earth, that is the velocity along our line of sight. However, we were able to also measure the sideways motion of the clusters, from which the total velocity, and consequently the galactic mass, can be calculated.” [2]
Globular cluster NGC 4147
The group used Gaia’s second data release as a basis for their study. Gaia was designed to create a precise three-dimensional map of astronomical objects throughout the Milky Way and to track their motions. Its second data release includes measurements of globular clusters as far as 65 000 light-years from Earth. "Global clusters extend out to a great distance, so they are considered the best tracers astronomers use to measure the mass of our galaxy" said Tony Sohn (Space Telescope Science Institute, USA), who led the Hubble measurements. The team combined these data with Hubble’s unparalleled sensitivity and observational legacy. Observations from Hubble allowed faint and distant globular clusters, as far as 130 000 light-years from Earth, to be added to the study. As Hubble has been observing some of these objects for a decade, it was possible to accurately track the velocities of these clusters as well.
Globular clusters surrounding the Milky Way (artist’s impression)
“We were lucky to have such a great combination of data,” explained Roeland P. van der Marel (Space Telescope Science Institute, USA). “By combining Gaia’s measurements of 34 globular clusters with measurements of 12 more distant clusters from Hubble, we could pin down the Milky Way’s mass in a way that would be impossible without these two space telescopes.” Until now, not knowing the precise mass of the Milky Way has presented a problem for attempts to answer a lot of cosmological questions. The dark matter content of a galaxy and its distribution are intrinsically linked to the formation and growth of structures in the Universe. Accurately determining the mass for the Milky Way gives us a clearer understanding of where our galaxy sits in a cosmological context.
Hubble Space Telescope (HST)
Notes: [1] Globular clusters formed prior to the construction of the Milky Way’s spiral disk, where our Sun and the Solar System later formed. Because of their great distances, globular star clusters allow astronomers to trace the mass of the vast envelope of dark matter surrounding our galaxy far beyond the spiral disk. [2] The total velocity of an object is made up of three motions — a radial motion plus two defining the sideway motions. However, in astronomy most often only line-of-sight velocities are available. With only one component of the velocity available, the estimated masses depend very strongly on the assumptions for the sideway motions. Therefore measuring the sideway motions directly significantly reduces the size of the error bars for the mass. More information The Hubble Space Telescope is a project of international cooperation between ESA and NASA. ESA's Gaia satellite was launched in 2013 to create the most precise three-dimensional map of more than one billion stars in the Milky Way. The mission has release two lots of data thus far: Gaia Data Release 1 in 2016 and Gaia Data Release 2 in 2018. More releases will follow in the coming years. The study was presented in the paper “Evidence for an Intermediate-Mass Milky Way from Gaia DR2 Halo Globular Cluster Motions”, which will be published in The Astrophysical Journal. The international team of astronomers in this study consists of Laura L. Watkins (European Southern Observatory, Germany), Roeland P. van der Marel (Space Telescope Science Institute, USA, and Johns Hopkins University Center for Astrophysical Sciences, USA), Sangmo T. Sohn (Space Telescope Science Institute, USA), and N. Wyn Evans (University of Cambridge, UK). Blessing of Freedom
There was an eerie quiet to the streets of Dalaran.  It was only a few minutes past dawn, the sun sparkling off the polished stone and brass and gold of the towers, glittering on the water far below as it rose in the east. There was a breeze, carrying not the scent of blood or cold or death, just the faint scent of salt and the sea. Her armored boots echoed softly against the well-worn cobbles, stones she’d traversed more times than she cared to think about.  The city had been almost a second home for so long over the course of so many years. It was strange to see it so quiet after so much activity, especially before operations had shifted to Zuldazar and Kul Tiras.
But now, except for an animated broom sweeping the empty streets, it was silent, sleepy—lonely.
She ducked down a side street, one that narrowed slightly the deeper she went.  The lamps still flickered above—the sun hadn’t quite penetrated street level here, between towers and multi-level flats.  She could have made it there even in the pitch dark, even blindfolded.  Her feet knew the way even better than her eyes.
Even at this early hour, there were lights on at the clinic that Tyr owned in Dalaran, one that he still visited from time to time, when his duties allowed.  The staff there knew her face as well as they knew his—and would be able to get messages home easily if necessary.
The sound of a footfall from a nearby alleyway gave her pause as she approached the clinic.  Her hand dropped to a long dagger sheathed at her hip—practically a shortsword, though with a thinner blade—and she turned as a figure in a green cloak emerged from the shadows.  His hood was up, but even in the dim light she could see a gleam of gold over green buried within.  The voice opened a raw ache that she’d forgotten long ago.
“None of us will think less of you if you don’t do it.”
Her hand fell away from the blade.  “I would.” She crossed her arms, her own dark cloak falling closed around her.  “When did Ardus tell you?”
Karius Cardalyii lowered his hood.  If not for the scar above his eye, he would have been identical to her father—had Lliranown lived.  He shook his head slightly, a faint, wry smile curving his lips.  “It wasn’t Ardus.  Izra told me.”
“Of course,” she said, then sighed.  “I told Tyr.”
Her uncle inclined his head slightly.  “Izra thought it would be important that we know.”
Wyn smiled faintly. “I guess he wasn’t wrong.  I was going to tell you all after it was done.”
“He seemed to think what you were about to do is rather dangerous.”
“Well, he’s not wrong.” She shrugged slightly.  “But it’s also something that I’m trained to do. I’ll be all right.”
“We’ll still worry,” Karius said softly.
“I know.”  She stood on tiptoe to kiss his cheek.  “And I appreciate it.  I’ll send word once I’m back from the Shore.”
He wrapped one gloved hand around the back of her head and pressed a kiss to her forehead.  “Be careful, little sprite,” he murmured. “We want you back in one piece.”
“Have faith, Uncle.” She put one hand on his arm, smiling up at him.  “I was forged for this.  This and so much more.  I’ll see you when I’m back.”
He nodded and released her. She smiled at him again, then stepped back, turning toward the clinic.
His voice stopped her again. “Wyn.”
She glanced back over her shoulder, one brow arching delicately.
“Is it worth it?” he asked.
“One less demon to trouble anyone is always worth it.”  She smiled. “I’ll see you when I get back.  I promise.”
“Then go,” he said softly. “With our blessings and prayers following you.  Sunwell guide you.”
“Thank you, Uncle.” She turned, then, and started walking again.
Karius said nothing more, just watched the girl he’d cradled as an infant walk with squared shoulders and head held high into danger of her own choosing.

Because of their great distances, globular star clusters allow astronomers to trace the mass of the vast envelope of dark matter surrounding our galaxy far beyond the spiral disk. [2] The total velocity of an object is made up of three motions – a radial motion plus two defining the sideway motions. The study was presented in the paper "Evidence for an Intermediate-Mass Milky Way from Gaia DR2 Halo Globular Cluster Motions", which will be published in The Astrophysical Journal. The international team of astronomers in this study consists of Laura L. Watkins (European Southern Observatory, Germany), Roeland P. van der Marel (Space Telescope Science Institute, USA, and Johns Hopkins University Center for Astrophysical Sciences, USA), Sangmo T. Sohn (Space Telescope Science Institute, USA), and N. Wyn Evans (University of Cambridge, UK). IMAGE....Globular clusters surrounding the Milky Way (artist's impression). Credit: ESA/Hubble, NASA, L. Boromir and Eowyn Fics (Circa 2002-2017)
(Feb. 10, 2018) - The following post is basically a “directory” or sorts of all the stories focusing on Boromir and Eowyn interacting with each other in Lord of the Rings fanfiction, either on a romantic level or a purely platonic level. All the stories I’ve ever found at least.
Most of the stories are one shots, the others are abandoned multi-chapter stories that never got off the ground due to a lack of authorial interest, and on a rare occasion, there are series fics that aren’t chronological, but are set in the same universe wherein Boromir lives.
- ROSA COTTON FICS
Home | K | One Shot | Modern AU [?] | Publish Date: September 5, 2005 Summary: Boromir returns to his wife and child after a long absence.
To Hate, to Love | K | One Shot | [FFNET | AO3] | Publish Date: September 8, 2005 Summary: When Boromir irritates Eowyn she, in her anger, reveals something unexpected. Movieverse, AU.
Torment Waking or Sleeping | K | One Shot | [FFNET | AO3] | Publish Date: November 18, 2006 Summary: Eowyn seemingly cannot escape the notice of one of the Fellowship – nor, possibly, wants to. Movieverse, AU.
His Hope in the Darkness | K | One Shot | Publish Date: November 29, 2013 Summary: Boromir did not anticipate finding the lady of his choice at his birthday ball. But he did. And then she was gone. AU.
A Valentine’s Day Courtship | K+ | One Shot | Modern AU | [FFNET | AO3] | Publish Date: April 30, 2014 Summary: Boromir had never taken much notice of Valentine's Day before. Until the day Eowyn punched him during recess, and he fell head over heels. AU.
Her Hope in the Darkness | K | One Shot | Publish Date: September 18, 2014 Summary: The ball had been just one more adventure among countless others. Yet as Eowyn continued in her journey, that night – HIM – refused to let her go. AU. Companion piece to "His Hope in the Darkness."
Their Hope in the Light | K | One Shot | Publish Date: December 3, 2014 Summary: A ring is returned, a question answered, and two weary souls are reunited. AU. Companion piece to "His Hope in the Darkness" and "Her Hope in the Darkness."
Bonds and Sparks | K+ | One Shot | Modern AU | [FFNET | AO3] | Publish Date: September 18, 2017 Summary: A familiar scene: Eowyn is annoyed and Boromir can't get a word in edgewise. AU.
- ONE SHOTS
Distance | Celandine | K | One Shot | Publish Date: September 30, 3004 (est.) Summary: Boromir visits Meduseld en route to Rivendell.
A Picnic | Alcarin Elen | K | One Shot | Publish Date: April 23, 2006 Summary: Boromir and Éowyn go on a picnic. A few differences and a sample of Éowyn's cooking.
Untitled | sardoniyx | K | One Shot | Publish Date: October 7, 2012 Summary: boromir/eowyn . eowyn is the one wearing the pants in this relationship. xoxo
Untitled | acariad | K | One Shot | Publish Date: March 2, 2012 Summary: bormir gives eowyn a few hints and tips at sword fighting.
Survivor’s Guilt | The_Lady_Meg | T | One Shot | Publish Date: March 14, 2015 Summary: In which Boromir survives Amon Hen, and Fate adjusts itself accordingly. Note: Major Character Death Occurs Anyway.
-ABANDONED MULTI-CHAPTER FICS (Recommended)
Beyond Duty | Malva  | K+ | Chapters: 2/? | Publish Date: March 4, 2010 Summary: War is approaching, but the alliance between Rohan and Gondor has weakened. To tighten the loosened ties, Denethor makes the House of Eorl an offer it cannot refuse. The lives of two people take a different turn. Note: Beyond Duty feels like the natural evolution of the last three abandoned multi-chapter stories that attempted to focus on B/E (especially in terms of the “Arranged Marriage” thing). However, it is also is the most unrealized of the stories clocking in at two chapters. Again, it’s mostly set-up, but, Eowyn is in her twenties instead of being seventeen (this time), and how the respective characters react to the news feels closer to their personas.
-ABANDONED MULTI-CHAPTER FICS (Non-Rec’d)
Duty | The North Wyn | K+ | Chapters: 5/? | Publish Date: November 30, 2006
Summary: In an attempt to salvage relations between Gondor and Rohan, a marriage is arranged between the Lady Eowyn of Rohan and the Lord Boromir of Gondor. This is their story. Note: Duty is yet another “Arranged Marriage to Avoid War” B/E story that never got off the ground. It’s mostly set up, but the haste of the author is noticeable in the brevity of the chapters. The “Boromir dislikes women” shtick also relatively strong in this fic as well.
- COMPLETE MULTI-CHAPTER FICS
Sweet Disposition | Sakura123 (Knightqueen) | T | Chapters: 100/100 | [FFNET | AO3] | Publish Date: July 4, 2010 Summary: A 100 short stories centered around Boromir and Eowyn's relationship as friends and lovers. Obviously AU.
- SERIES FICS
Road to Mundburg | Morgyn Leri | G-T | Series Status: Incomplete | Publish Date: March 4, 2014 (est.) Summary: A universe where Éowyn travels to Gondor to become Boromir's wife at age 19. Her presence in Gondor, and absence in Rohan changes things, but not so greatly that you can't see the bones of canon beneath.
Hope (Series) | Rosa Cotton |  K | Series Status: Complete | Publish Date: April 12, 2013 (on Archive of Our Own) Summary: A Cinderella-like retelling of Boromir and Eowyn. AU. Movieverse. Note: It’s exactly the stories you’re thinking they are.
- ESSAYS
Hero | Shkittles | K | School Paper | Publish Date: November 12, 2012 Summary: An analytical comparison/contrast of Boromir and Eowyn. Note: It’s a bit odd that the essayist compares Eowyn’s basic compassion for people like Merry or Aragorn maternal or frames it as pregnancy metaphor.
- PWP FICS
(not my favorites, but they’re for somebody)
Breeding | Author Unknown | M | One Shot | Publish Date: February 2nd, 2009 Summary: Boromir and Eowyn talk marriage of convenience.
One Night in Meduseld | Finduilas88 | M | Chapters: 3/3 | Publish Date: October 18, 2013 Summary: Eowyn knew that others would name it infatuation; a young woman's crush on a older man, handsome, charming - and out of reach. But she was determined it would be more than that.
Promise | just_ann_now | M | One Shot | Publish Date: April 4, 2014 (est.) Summary: Boromir hopes Eowyn finds a worthy husband, Eowyn considers remember their moment together.
- GEN FICS (No Pairing)
The White Lady of Rohan | Soledad | K+ | Chapters: 7/7 | Publish Date: February 21, 2002 Summary: 1st Boromir story. About Boromir's way to Imladris. Now all beta-read and Completed. Note: Wall of text author’s notes about sticking to canon make for tiring busywork.
Ice Blossom | Soledad | T | One Shot | Publish Date: February 26, 2002 Summary: Éowyn, having received Boromir's parting gift, reflects over the fate of Éorl's House. Now completed. Note: Text of the entire story Bold and Italicized. Bit of a strain on the eyes.
Will You Judge? | TangerineBreeze | K | One Shot | Publish Date: December 31, 2004 Summary: A one-shot, about being quick to judge and whether or not we have a right to do so.
Friendly Advice | ncfan | K+ | One Shot | Publish Date: February 6, 2011 Summary:-Boromir, Éowyn- "Then, I will strike down terror." Notes: This is probably the closest story I’ve ever read that portrays a fairly solid friendship or more-than-polite interaction between them that feels really genuine.
The Best Men Are Moulded Out Of Faults | Eris'-twin-sister | K | One Shot | Publish Date: March 12, 2014 Summary: This is a one-shot on Éowyn's curiosity fuelled exploration on Boromir's character. No A.U or non-canon pairings. Reviews are much welcomed, but no flames.
Black Is the Color of my True Love's Hair | just_ann_now | K | One Shot | Publish Date: April 4, 2014 (est.) Summary: Thirteen year old Eowyn meets Boromir.

Hilma af Klint: The Secret Paintings 12th June – 19th September 2021 Art Gallery of New South Wales
You might recognise the pastel tones and soft, mystical forms of Swedish visionary Hilma af Klint. The 2019 exhibition of her newly discovered paintings at New York’s Guggenheim drew record-breaking crowds, and was broadcast all over Instagram. But nothing substitutes for the real thing!
The 100 works that comprise The Secret Paintings will premiere in the Asia Pacific at the Art Gallery of New South Wales this winter, which will be the first major survey of the experimental artist’s work in the region. The existence of the enormous, ambitious canvases was not known until recently when they found in storage after being kept there for the last few decades… unbeknownst to the art world!
Now brought to light, the dazzling exhibition represents an outpouring of appreciation for the trailblazing modernist artist. Don’t miss this international art sensation!

‘Friend Under the Tree‘ by Mirka Mora.
MIRKA 14th February – 19th December 2021 Jewish Museum of Australia, Victoria
It’s no secret we’re HUGE Mirka Mora fans, but this is big… even for us! MIRKA is the most expansive survey of the late, great artist’s work and dives deep into her rich personal history as well as her vibrant creative oeuvre.
After pushing back the opening due to last year’s restrictions, the Jewish Museum of Australia will transform into a ‘Mirka-world’ on Valentine’s Day, featuring more than 200 unseen pieces from the Mora family home and Mirka’s studio and archives. These will be featured alongside pieces from Heide’s permanent collection to create a vivid account of her life as a Holocaust refugee in Australia.
Visitors will be guided through the exhibition of artworks and personal effects by an audio soundscape of stories and memories – narrated by Mirka herself! This will be a truly immersive show of a Melbourne icon.

Vincent Namatjira 8th – 25th September, 2021 This Is No Fantasy
2020 was Vincent Namatjira’s year. The artist received an Order of Australia in June, and then took out the prestigious Archibald Prize a few months later, becoming the first Indigenous artist to win the country’s most prestigious portrait prize. AND he released a book in December!
Originally from Ntaria (Hermannsburg), Northern Territory (125km South West of Alice Springs), Vincent identifies as Western Aranda. Today, he is based at Iwantja Arts in the remote community of Indulkana in South Australia’s APY (Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara) lands.
Vincent’s bold, unique paintings position notable historical figures (often political leaders or members of the British monarchy) in the vivid Australian desert, or himself in diplomatic scenes between international heads of states. His subversive style questions the nature of history and politics we understand today.
This Is No Fantasy gallery represents the of-the-moment artist and will host an exhibition of his recent works later this year. Details are yet to be finalised but mark the date in your diary, it’s going to be excellent!

Triennial 2020 December 2020 – April 18th, 2021 National Gallery Victoria
Given this all-encompassing contemporary showcase only happens once every three years, its pretty much the defintion of ‘unmissable’.
With pieces scattered throughout the NGV’s permanent collection, the Triennial displays the work of over 100 contemporary designers and artists across many mediums and creative disciplines. From enormous digital landscapes by Refik Anadol to colourful installations by interior designer Danielle Brustman and an enormous iridescent Jeff Koons sculpture, the exhibition celebrates the diversity and  of contemporary creatives around the world.
And to really sweeten the deal, entry is free! Make sure to book ahead.

Improvisation No III (Munich) by Erica McGilchrist, 1961.
House of Ideas: Modern Women 1st May – 31st October, 2021 Heide Museum of Modern Art
One of the best things about Heide is the history of the grounds itself, the bedrock of the Australian modernist art movement. House of Ideas: Modern Women celebrates the creative women connected to the iconic site.
From writers to artists, poets and progressive thinkers, these visionary female creatives have been largely forgotten by history, though making just as significant contributions to the bohemian movement as their male counterparts. The exhibition includes the work of Sunday Reed, Cynthia Reed Nolan, Barbara Blackman, Mary Boyd, Joy Hester, Mirka Mora and more to illustrate the central role these women played in creating the cultural and intellectual environment we understand today.

National Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) Museum and Art Gallery Northern Territory
The Telstra National Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Art Awards is a milestone event in the art calendar every year, and the 37th iteration will be no different!
The awards program and accompanying exhibition unites emerging and established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists at the Museum and Art Gallery Northern Territory in Darwin. The diversity of media displayed among the finalists in the last few years represents the richness of the contemporary art practices among leading Indigenous artists, and the fresh perspectives they bring to the artistic fabric of contemporary Australia. This show is knock-out every year.
Dates are yet to be finalised for this year’s program, but fingers crossed for an IRL ceremony and exhibition!

‘Four scenes from the early life of Saint Zenobius‘ by Sandro Botticelli, c1500.
Botticelli to Van Gogh: Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London 5 March – 14 June 2021 National Gallery of Australia
Hold onto your hats, there’s a masterpiece blockbuster on its way to Australia!
Spanning five centuries and seven key artistic periods, Botticelli to Van Gogh: Masterpieces from the National Gallery, London brings together 60 paintings by big time European heavyweights including Titian, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Velázquez, Goya, Turner, Renoir, Cézanne and Gauguin. These titans bookend Western European art history, starting with the Italian Renaissance and ending with the birth of modern art, catching the Dutch Golden Age, 17th-century Spanish movement and British portraiture in between.
This showstopper is presented in partnership with the National Gallery, London and is exclusive to the NGA.

The Green Room (Omega Project) by RONE, 2017.
RONE in Geelong 27th February – 16th May, 2021 Geelong Gallery
Rone is a longtime favourite in the TDF office, so just try and stop us from getting down to Geelong to see this!
From stencil works to archival photographs of his signature street murals and digital recreations of his installations, this is the first comprehensive solo survey of the artist’s iconic work. The exhibition culminates in a site-specific piece where one of the gallery’s rooms has been completely transformed into a RONE-style space.
The new multimedia commission will respond to the architecture and history of the building, reforming the grand reception area into a decayed and derelict room – reminiscent of his installations at the abandoned Burnham Beeches building in 2019. It will also contain a new soundtrack by composer Nick Batterham.

Exclusive Travel Industry Podcasts - TravelNewsAsia.com
Tumblr media
Not everybody has the time to watch a 15 or 20-minute in-depth interview in video format. Not only does video drain your mobile's battery a lot faster than just audio, a lot of the time you cannot just put it down and listen to what's being said without the phone turning the audio off when the screen goes dark. That's why in 2016 we started making podcasts of all the interviews that we do, and they have proved very popular. Links to the corresponding video interviews can be found in each podcast's description below. If you have any suggestions, ideas, or would like to sponsor our podcasts please do let us know. Thank you. In this exclusive interview, John Roberts gives us an update on the status of elephants in Thailand, what the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF) does, as well as how the year 2019 ended and what they have planned for 2020. John tells us what Jungle Bubbles are, who is staying in them, how many elephants people can expect to see, whether they are safe, and how they plan to expand this rather unusual idea. All that and much, much more in the interview. (video) Your browser does not support this audio element. Jim tells us where the international visitor arrivals are coming from, why he has spent so much time trying to build Japan as a key source market, what they are doing to address language issues, how they use technology to promote the destination and what it is about North Wales that he believes will appeal to tourists from Asia. Skull hell, the sequel
Tumblr media
“Production designer Arwel Wyn Jones replaced the John Pinkerton print that had been in the flat for the last three series with a custom-made version for Series 4. The skull is a photo of the one on the mantle, while the barely visible eyes are from a photo of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the overlaying text is taken from the first few pages of A Study in Scarlet! The print is multi-layered, and in most shots was backlit. “
You know what? As we can’t quite figure out why they decided to have a white/blue/marron painting, I’m going to figure out what the hell they were thinking when they made this monster.
Mr Blue skull was bought, but that, that thing? It was custom made and if you understand what is written above, that means that Arwell woke up one morning, and just thought this:
“Guess what? We’re going to take Billy, take a shot of him, buy an edition of A Study in Scarlet, cut and use these words in actually seven layers to give a 3D effect nobody can possibly notice on TV because, 2D, and add a picture of Conan Doyle for the eyes! And important! We’re going to backlit it”
There is intent, you can’t possibliy say it wasn’t done for a serious purpose. It necessarily answers a need. The painting was created for one purpose: to tell us a story.
Tumblr media
First thing first, we’ve got a gold tooth in the painting that doesn’t exist in the ‘real Billy’. I don’t think that means that they cheated on Billy, I genuinely believe that they honest to god tried to take a picture of him, and then added the gold tooth.
So, they basically added a reference from The Adventure of the Stockbroker’s Clerk for no apparent reason.
"Human nature is a strange mixture, Watson. You see that even a villain and murderer can inspire such affection that his brother turns to suicide when he learns that his neck is forfeited".
No idea where this can lead though.
Now, the extract from A Study in Scarlet, Arwell tweeted that the extracts were “from beginning till they meet for the first time”. Basically, it’s that moment in the story where they don’t know each other, and Watson is leading “a comfortless, meaningless existence” and he sees Standford. They decided not to include the meeting, it ends right before.
And ACD is keeping an eye on us, his picture is in the skull’s eyes and he’s looking at Sherlock with, welll, we can’t, we can’t actually say he’s looking kindly on them because, you know, he wasn’t extremely fond of his hero. And now he’s keeping an eye on you? I thought you wanted to follow canon without being imprisonned by ACD’s reading. Why would you seek to bring him back? Like, what the hell?
Because so far, I don’t see this skull as extremely benevolent. Doyle is keeping a watch on you, Watson hasn’t met Holmes yet, and vilains can inspire such affection the ones who love them will turn to suicide.
