^^for anyone wondering how to identify an aro

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a representation of an aromantic character that felt like such a gut-punch before Little Woman (2019) and Jo March- it’s not explicitly stated, but it’s played exactly like that (trust me, I’m speaking from personal experience)

There’s this clip on youtube of this conversation where she talks about how women are so much more than just romance and love, but admits at the end how she’s still so lonely, and you see it in the theater, and the scene also has her talking about how she regrets rejecting Laurie’s proposal because maybe she didn’t love him, but he loved her, and she can be happy simply being loved if that’s the option she has

At the end of the movie, we get this sequence where the guy she met in New York shows up at her family’s house and has dinner with them and talks about how he’s moving away, and it’s very “nudge-nudge love interest (!!!)”-y, and then it cuts away to another scene

And we’re with Jo while she’s getting her book published, and the publisher refuses to publish it unless her main character is in love or married by the end of the book, and there’s even a line about how she’s being forced to “sell” her character into marriage

And then we cut back, and he leaves, and all her sisters jump her and start babbling about how happy she acted with him, and how he was obviously in love with her, and she’s obviously in love with him and god the way she reacts- she doesn’t understand, because she’s not and never has been. He’s her friend, just like Laurie was her friend, and she doesn’t show romantic interest for anybody the entire movie because that’s not who she is, but she doesn’t have a comparison and kinda gives in and lets them drag her after him, and they kiss, and happily ever after in a nice pretty bow

But that doesn’t erase that they made a point to tell us that her “relationship” was forced because of the era it was written, and it’s meant to feel rushed and out of character in the epilogue, and it doesn’t quite fit because she isn’t meant to be a romantic character. Through the whole movie, she doesn’t want to marry or fall in love, because she’s not that person. When she does “fall in love”, she has to be told and convinced by her sisters and Laurie, and you can see on her face that she doesn’t quite understand but is just going along with it, and it’s just- yeah

Marvel Week 2019

Help us plan next year’s Marvel Week!

Things we need:

Input on the prompts. There is a preliminary list already, but we’d love to hear feedback and new ideas.

Volunteers to help mod. We’re looking for help to keep things running smoothly the week of the event, but 1-2 people that can commit more full time would be appreciated.
