The House was Emptier Without Him- Beru Whitestone Time Travel Fanfic Idea Pt.2
A/N: Hello! Here's another idea in my brain for the fanfic I've been writing. I would post on Ao3 but I deleted my Account because it took over my life and needed a break from it. I should be getting it back on May 2nd!
_____________________________________________________________
After they had come back she thought that the homestead would be different, changed somehow. Of course, things were just not as worn as they were, and they knew what things they would need to replace in the future, but other than that it was just the same. Except, emptier.
Beru thought after that day that it would make her never want to come back to it, that she would somehow see the blood on the floor and her husband’s lifeless eyes again.
Despite all of it, It still felt like home. The memories were still there, the smell of dust that dried the inside of your nose and left a film in your mouth. The rumbling noise of the generators dar could still feel getting just a bit too close for too long which left an echo in your chest. The twins' suns still warmed her bones and sometimes she would forget about the sharp burning in her lungs. The memories still snuck behind her around certain corners and grasped her. The trail of the memories continued to drip down past her collarbone to the
“Honey, breathe.”  She felt cold fingers hook around hers just enough for her to feel the grooves of calluses and scars on worn but younger than she was used to hands.
Her husband was here.
Beru tilted her head to look up into her husband’s eyes, he was kneeling down next to her, close but not enough to make her feel trapped and confined. Puffs of air were released from her lungs and warm air coiled back in. Her husband gazed into her eyes, full of concern and a glint of understanding in his eyes. Slowly the prickly feeling of panic faded into a dull throb that matched her calming heartbeat. The puffs of air became less frequent and controlled.
Staring up at her old man, though many would say while looking at him that wasn’t an apt description for there was no wrinkles in his hands or greyness in his hair was just as grounding as always. It was Owen, not just of the then, but the now.
The suns hadn’t yet come up and there was still much work to be done for the harvest.
“I’m okay, my love.” She gripped his hands tightly and brought their foreheads to press against each other’s. Both of them shook silently together, neither shedding a tear. Crying is a waste of water.
Everything looked the same as it had before, both unworn and dated. The lights blinked the same pattern and they even knew which parts were going to go out eventually. So they made sure to search for parts when they were at their cheapest price. They knew exactly where the harvest was the best and when it would end and new techniques to farm it efficiently. This year would still be a tough year, but it would be much more manageable.
On top of the table was the light breakfast that they had both shared time and time again, Owen looked up from his datapad and gave her a soft smile. She proceeded to set the bowl down on top of their little table and picked up her spoon to eat,  Ignoring the one less bowl and one less boy.
“I plan on fixing one of the condensers on the south side today. One of our droids alerted me that there is a problem with it. Possibly some Tusken damaged it.” Owen’s grip on the datapad tightened, but his face remained unchanged.
Just another day. An emptier day without-

"He's not my father!" - a luke skywalker fanfic idea (AU)
Kinda had this thought in my head for a while. Luke Skywalker is reborn in a galaxy where Order 66 never happened, Palpatine was killed by Mace Windu, Anakin never became a Sith and Padme lived. That doesn't mean everything is sunshine and rainbows. The empire still weighs heavily, its infrastructure not completely destroyed along with their leader. Little Luke Remembers. Nobody's having the best time. All Luke wants to do is go home.
_____________________________________________________________
Luke doesn't come to his memories right away. They come in nightmares. He has had constant nightmares since he was a child about the life he lived before (sequels notwithstanding) and when he is 9 years old something happens. Holding his father's lightsaber and lighting it, the breeze brushing through his hair and he thinks 'Oh'.
He passes out. The memories and the force caused him to convulse and scream. The force had always been fond of the young boy, not the passive serenity Obi-wan faced or the beating heart of Anakin Skywalker. However, the fondness did not abate the suffering to come. The windows crack and the walls shake. Anakin is trying to reach him, but something has slammed him and his wife into the wall. Luke's force presence shifting, morphing, and tearing. Leia wouldn't stop screaming. Echoing the anguish cries. This can't be happening. Anakin thought.
Anakin and Padme were adamant about not having the Jedi teach their children. The Jedi had come gently to ask, but quickly took their leave afterwards. They hardly talked to the Council. Perhaps from some anger or pain or maybe guilt. Perhaps it was a mistake to keep them away. Obi-wan had come around often and Luke loved him. Loved him so much that when the nightmares came only Obi-wan could comfort him. Sobbing into the man’s robes saying a nickname given by a long lost love.
"Ben. Ben. Why didn't you tell me?" The boy gripped the Jedi's robes tightly, squishing his little face to hide the tears, the terror.
Obi-wan would ask what, but the boy couldn't remember or couldn't say.
"Anakin. Padme. Have you thought about bringing him to the temple?" Obi-wan took them aside to ask after one such episode to where only Obi-wan could comfort.
Oh, how that stung both of them. Luke, during the suffering, hadn't recognized his mother. Treating her as if she were a stranger and Anakin, he treated him with resistance and violence. Oftentimes, Anakin had to take Leia aside while they wait for it to go down. Helpless to stop it.
Obi-wan's question sparked anger and a leaving to where little Luke hadn't seen his Ben for over a year.
When little Luke stopped screaming, they had rushed over. His force prescence injured, weak and cold. Quickly, they reached out to the very people they once didn't let him go to.
"Help you, we will." Master Yoda eyes gazed at the Chosen One's face. Anakin refused to look into them.
"The Jedi halls of healing may be the best place to monitor him." Master Windu, the Sith Slayer and Hero of the Republic stares at their exhausted figures. An offer of compassion of help despite all the animosity.
Both parents had tried so hard to keep him away, but they had reached their limit. At this point, Luke could die or kill someone. Padme could still feel the echoing of the force around her neck like hands trying to choke her.
"We'll be on our way in the morning." Padme's hoarse voice croacked out.
After ending the call they gathered little Luke and Leia into their arms and took them to bed. When they shut their eyes, the force lulling them to sleep they didn't realize Little Luke getting up and out of bed.
They didn't hear the packing of clothes, the grab of credits or the sound of the door shutting.
When they woke Little Luke Skywalker couldn't be found. He was gone.

welp… I can’t help myself :) Luke is wonderful! I love him. I also think he’s putting an end (at least trying) to a cycle of violence (although that’s probably not what his main goal was.)
I love your quote at the end too! Your work is so vast and amazing. It’s so interesting and complicated. I adore it. :)
let’s get started :p
George Lucas gives an explanation of what Jedi love and why they ‘can’t’ love. They do love, but they cannot covet. Greed leads to fear which lead to them trying to keep that person no matter what. So the Jedi knights give up marriage. They still love people but they cannot own or possess them. do I think you can still be married and still put one thing first? yes! That’s actually what a lot of religions do with their significant other. It’s comes with challenges and it still can be difficult to put the one thing first. Especially if one of the person’s first is not like the other’s. It was a tenant to make things less challenging in some ways. anyways enough about the Jedi order. Anakin was the one to bring balance to the force. He was the chosen one. It’s wasn’t really Luke’s victory. The story is about Anakin, Anakin’s redemption, not Luke’s Victory. Certainly Luke didn’t think of it that way. He attributed it to his father turning back.
It was only successful because it was Luke’s relation. It wasn’t just because of the way he did it, but because he was his son and padme’s. Vader wouldn’t have done it with Ahsoka or Obi-Wan. At that point neither Ahsoka or Obi-Wan could do it.
No other person could do this (maybe Leia but with her temperament I don’t think she would have done it. ) George says this too.
This was because Anakin’s attachment to Luke was by blood/family relation aka padme and his mother. It was used instead of going toward the dark, but to the light. His attachment led to love and sacrifice. Anakin’s attachment also led to genocide and his own enslavement. You can’t really say Anakin loved Luke when he cut off his hand and treated him as more of a possession than a person. The more he learned about Luke the more he loved him whether he knew it or not. His attachment made way to love. Luke only started to put down his weapon when he found out that Vader was Anakin. When a monster is a family member it makes it different. He fully intended to kill him when he wasn’t a family member. The empire killed his aunt and uncle. He saw that there must be justice. You hear it from family members of murderers who condemned murders until they found out it was among them. Everybody has lines but those lines move. Luke felt an obligation to not kill him because he is his father. Luke didn’t think it would be right (just) to leave his friends because he could do something about it!
Luke while being able to create an Avenue for the redemption for Vader, but it was Anakin’s decision. Luke could not give him absolution. Really only those who could would be the force. This seems indicative by him being a ghost in the light side of the force. Luke didn’t give him that, the force (of course Obi too) did.
I love your Vader. He didn’t know Luke was his son. Yet, he still grown to love him because of who Luke was! Canon Vader first was attached to Luke before loving him. I can’t wait to see how you reveal the depth of Vader’s crimes to Luke. Especially the younglings. Is Vader still the chosen one to bring balance in the force in your story? Is Vader’s purpose different?
.
thank you for listening to my post. I respect your points and they have validity. I support Luke’s perspective of putting the weapon down, and showing love. I personally subscribe to showing love at all times to everyone (I’m not perfect at it but I try. )
thank you so much for your works and time. They have caused me to laugh, cry (not just in sadness but emotions,) smile and have help distracted me by comfort when I am at my lowest. I really enjoy it. I love the nabooian tree!
I think there’s something rather strange going on with all the folks who insist that the Jedi Order in the PT was right and didn’t forbid love and Anakin should just have followed their teachings when the whole point of the prequels is that they are prequels. They come before the OT, and the OT proves the Jedi wrong. They literally do not make sense if they don’t do that.
Luke, in the original trilogy, gains his ultimate triumph, his ultimate victory, because he loved in defiance of the teachings of the old Order. He quite literally had the ghosts of the past telling him, explicitly and without ambiguity, that he has to put his love for his father aside and kill him, as is the duty of a Jedi. Luke has the weight of millennia of teachings weighing down on his shoulders, telling him they knew and know better than a young, inexperienced man barely out of his teenager years. That he should follow their teachings or be destroyed. That is an immense weight to carry, and many people would and explicitly have given in to it in-universe. What are your feelings and ideals in the face of such immense legacy, after all?
But Luke doesn’t give in.
He doesn’t bend.
He says “I may be young, and I may be new, but I believe to my heart and soul that love matters more than this legacy. Matters more than your teachings.” And he says this to the ghosts of his mentors. That is such a powerful moment and one I can’t believe George Lucas didn’t create deliberately for even a second. This young man, being told he has to kill or die trying for a system that is dead or dying itself, that couldn’t survive itself, and refusing to do so. He is the living refusing to continue the violence of a dead generation. He is the young man refusing the draft into a war the old generation started, saying “peace and love matters more than you being right.” He is the embodiment of breaking the cycle.
And the movies vindicate him.
The main villain vindicates him with his last dying breath.
Darth Vader, dying, says “You were right.” and admits he and his were wrong. The main antagonist, Luke’s nemesis, in the face of his son’s immense, defiant love, gives way and does the impossible: he comes back to the light and dies a Jedi. The very thing the old Order says was impossible.
They were wrong. They have to be. The narrative demands it, the movies don’t make sense without it.
The solution was never to continue the cycle of the old Order, or Luke would have failed there, would have failed when he said “I am a Jedi, like my father before me.” And claimed that defiant, deviant, condemned definition of being a Jedi over the one presented to him by the Grandmaster of the old Order. If the old Order was right, Luke would have to be wrong. Be wrong about love, be wrong about laying down the sword, be wrong about refusing to fight. He would have to be wrong.
But the old Order is dead, explicitly killed by a monster, in some part, of their own making. It’s members only existing as bones in the ground or ghosts speaking from beyond the grave. They did not deserve it, it should not have been inflicted on them, but the narrative is clear on this: “The old way is dead, and was dying for a long time before that. Long live the new.”
Luke is that new. Luke is the breaking of the cycle, the reforging of swords into ploughs, the extended hand. Luke says “I don’t care how much I was hurt, I refuse to hurt you back, and you don’t need to hurt me either.”
“We can end this together and choose love instead.”
And Darth Vader, killer of the Jedi, End of the Order, lays down his arms as well, and reaches back as Anakin, saying “You were right.”
It wasn’t Obi-Wan, Yoda, Mace, Qui-Gon, or even Ahsoka who achieved the ultimate victory in the end, following the tenants of the old Order. It was Luke. Young, inexperienced Luke, who saw that the age of legacy handed to him was only history, that the sword handed to him as his life was only a tool, and that the decrees of the dead were only advice. And he took it all, said “thank you for your experience, but I’ve got it from here,” and laid it all down to instead extend an open hand towards his enemy.
And his victory, his ultimate triumph, his vindication, was that he was proven right when his enemy reached back and became just another person. Just another person, just like him.
The Jedi did not deserve what happened to them, and they did not deserve to die. But the story is clear on this: the Jedi of old were wrong, and the Jedi of new, the Last Jedi, was right. No sword or death will ever end the rule of the sword or end the bloodshed. But love?
Love can ignite the stars.

As a new star wars nerd... Plz help
-nessa
Y'all there is so much lore. There is the high republic, the old republic, the new republic, and beyond.
Legends, EU? and Cannon.
How the Sith happened and how the Jedi changed over time.
Sith wars...
Revan, Abeloth, and the unknown territories!
I've been in the star wars fandom for three years and I know NOTHING :(
Not to mention games, books, comics, and shows.
I love the prequels, but I wanted to expand into legends in order to integrate them into my works. Like how? Where do I find the info? Where can I read the stuff?
I am desperate. PLZ Help.
(I know wiki, but I want to delve into stuff. )
