Been a while since I've done a redraw of one of my old illustrations, this was actually really fun and it's great seeing how much I've improved!

I chose this piece because 1. It reminds of when I first got into the Be More Chill fandom, and 2. It helped me realise what my artstyle was and helped me not just enjoy drawing again, but made me improve my skills.

I had not long gotten back from uni when I did the original illustration. Uni had battered me down so much with constant pressure to stray away from what I enjoyed, and try to mimic what other illustrators were doing that in the end I left uni not knowing what my style was, and just trying to copy what the mainstream wanted.

This illustration was a turning point and made me rediscover my enjoyment for drawing, and while I still experiment with styles and techniques, it's at my own pace and I follow my own path.

I don't enjoy marketing my artwork. While I would love to make illustration my full-time career I'm not going to sacrifice my enjoyment of it, nor copy what the latest trendsetter is doing just to fulfill that dream. If it takes me a while to get there, or if I have to always have a second job then that's what I'll do; I love drawing and this piece I did a few years back helped reminded me why.
