Okay, so…
I like Tom Blyth’s portrayal.
Nothing wrong with it, or him.
Tumblr media
HOWEVER
I am so fucking tired of all the President Snow merch everywhere being 99.99% Tom and 0.01% Donald. (The gifs too)
Tumblr media
Also
The “I can fix him” and “President Snow apologist” stuff is out of hand.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The story is set in stone. We’re long passed the opportunity for helping him not become an oligarch.
As much as I love Coriolanus, and always will, I don’t apologize for anything he did. None of that was okay. It’s not forgivable. In fact, he probably wouldn’t think it is either. Understanding how he becomes the man we know and knowing how he thinks, understanding that he’s not “just an evil old sadistic bastard” and has a traceable thought process… That’s not excusing, apologizing, or forgiving.
Having “the greater good” in mind when murdering, torturing, trafficking people… that doesn’t make any of it any less wrong. And any of these young people who think otherwise… the people who apologize… they missed the point and I am worried for them. I am worried they will ignore very real red flags in real people and stay in unhealthy, and even dangerous, relationships.
Tumblr media
Whether you believe it’s real love or not, Coriolanus and Lucy Gray were a toxic couple. Whether you wanted them to work out or not, they just never could. They are not relationship goals. You want a less toxic Hunger Games relationship? Katniss and Peeta have their issues, but they’re much closer to couple goals. Finnick and Annie also come to mind. We see less of them, but they, as a couple, seem reasonably non-toxic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You want Coriolanus to have a healthy relationship with someone? Fanfiction. Can’t find it, or one you like? Make your own. Share it, or don’t.

I’m really impressed that Peter Griffin knows when Donald Sutherland’s birthday is (July 17th), especially since it’s also his and Lois’ anniversary and he doesn’t remember THAT.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I DON’T particularly care for is how Stewie and Brian speak about Donald later.
I can’t tell exactly what Stewie is getting at, but it feels insulting.
Thus, I, myself, feel insulted.
Seth, WTF were you trying to say?
I can live with American Dad’s “That lanky, Canadian, Kiefer-spawning bastard.”
Tumblr media
In the context of what’s going on with Stan, that’s a “reasonable” reaction for him.
But Stewie saying (and I’m paraphrasing) “the trick to looking good for your age is to never look good.”
What is that?!

So…
I have been eating cheesy bean and rice burritos as my regular meal from Taco Bell.
Twice recently, my burrito has tasted off.
And I open it up and it looks normal, but it smells funny.
Just inspected the individual elements and discovered the smells origin.
I believe whoever made these off burritos confused the Chipotle Sauce for the Creamy Jalapeño Sauce.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Does it taste bad? No. Will I eat it? I mean, I guess I. Do I want to eat it? No.
So, besides smelling my burrito before I leave the restaurant…
What can I do to help prevent this?
Is there a polite, non-accusatory way to bring it up to staff?
Because it looks like an honest mistake, and it’s likely a violation of the health code for them to get it close enough to smell it.

I’m like Betelgeuse.
Tumblr media
I will pop up ANYWHERE.
Tumblr media
But it’s not in response to my name.
Tumblr media
You have to have said “Donald Sutherland”
Tumblr media
You don’t have to say it three times.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once is enough.
But
Tumblr media
It never hurts to say it again

0 Days since last accident meltdown.
Tumblr media
My pocket knife has mysteriously disappeared since last night.
Have looked for it everywhere. My parents have helped me look. Turned the house upside down.
Furthermore, the woman whose sister I help take care of found out about it.
I overheard her on the phone with someone else.
She was recounting the knife situation and then, I swear to God, I heard her say “I don’t know what’s wrong with the child. She says she’s on the autism spectrum…” which was where I stopped listening.
I have heard her talk about me behind my back before (because she thought I’d left already)
and not only about me.
She is always going on about “I have such good friends who help me when I need it” and will be shit talking those same friends no more than 15 minutes later.
July of 2022, I thought she was a good person and I liked her.
Since then, I have come to know she is only a superficially good person and I don’t like her at all.
Why do I keep helping? Simple. Guilt.
“You’re saving my life”
She’s convinced she and/or her sister would be dead if I had not started helping them.
I am convinced of this as well.
But every time I think about just not being here, I know I will feel responsible if they die. Not that I wouldn’t be at all, I guess. But that’s a lot of pressure for someone to put on another person and I’m sure she’s done it on purpose.

Person: *bad take*
Tumblr media
Me: *detailed explanation of why I disagree*
Tumblr media
Person: “you’re a complete fucking idiot if you don’t agree with *bad take* and I find you humorous”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Me: “You’re being an ass, so I’ll be one too.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Person: “Your childish behavior, frankly, undermines your argument and I disagree with you even more now.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like, how does anyone even think that’s an appropriate response to anything?
You can look down on my “childish” response to douchbaggery, but responding politely AGAIN was never going to work.
If the initial response to a respectful disagreement is to insult me, I no longer have any incentive to be respectful toward you.
It’s, honestly, a little like how Emperor Marmalade “debates” his opponents.
“I disagree with your disagreement, and I’m going to justify it by insulting your person, which has nothing to do with the topic we disagreed upon, and it doesn’t matter how you respond. If you’re polite, you’re covering something up and if you’re also rude, you are the kind of person that no one should support.”
There is no “win” here
Returning the favor relieves the tension caused by these interactions, and politeness does next to nothing about that.
So…

People get exactly one chance to have a good faith discussion about Hunger Games with me
Tumblr media
We don’t have to agree. I’d much prefer if we did, particularly in regard to the messaging of the series.
However, I am willing to have a civil disagreement. As long as it is exactly that. Civil.
Tumblr media
The people who can’t handle being challenged in their personal view of the story so much so that they have to insult and try to discredit anyone not sharing that view, in order to feel superior? No.
If you are a prick, I will be a prick right back.
Politely disagree all day long if you want.
Accuse me of having never red the books? Making shit up? Having a “stupid conclusion?”
Go to hell.
Tumblr media
For everyone who wants to be an asshole, there are two or more who do not.
I have real concern for the future.
Those who understand Hunger Games make me feel hopeful.
Tumblr media
Those who do not, and refuse to even discuss the matter, make me more fearful for our uncertain future.
If you don’t understand, but are willing to at least try to understand, I will gladly take the time to converse.
Tumblr media
I cannot continue deal with people who refuse to listen.
If I take that on, my mental health will suffer.
Tumblr media
I have to hold on to every single solitary ounce of hope for the future and peace of mind I can find.
Tumblr media
No, people haven’t particularly been the proverbial thorns in my side on this issue on tumblr
But I’ve been getting it a lot on Instagram and I am sick of it.
Just putting this same rundown over here preemptively.
For those whose comment I see with agreement on the subject or an honest willingness to at least think about it… I appreciate you more than I know how to properly express.
I could rack my brain for some long, eloquent message filled with big words, but I would never find it satisfactory.
Thus, I simply say:

MY ARGUMENT
FOR MAKING INTERMISSION
COMMONPLACE IN THEATERS AGAIN
Tumblr media
Well written, three dimensional character:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Film makers making the film adaptation of the longest book (126 pages longer than the previous longest book) a whopping eleven minutes longer than the previous longest film in the series:
Tumblr media
The stunningly beautiful , well made film featuring the very rushed backstory of previously mentioned well written, three dimensional character:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Resulting in the people who didn’t read the book being even less likely than those who did to understand how we get from point A to point B.
Not to mention missing characters (Pluribus, Lepidus), scaled down roles (a marked lack of connection to the Covey, neglected or absent Peacekeeper bunkmates Beanpole, Bug, and Smiley), poorly defined timeline (film goers have no idea of how long anybody knew anybody and why connections are as deep as they are portrayed), and lack of closure for certain plot points (Clemensia’s fate, where the hell the guitar came from for Lucy Gray’s interview)
We’re not talking about an amputation, a personal connection to an Avox, a friendship with the Mayor’s daughter (and at least Madge’s absence is accounted for by showing a different story for how Katniss got the Mockingjay pin), or mutts specifically designed to provide psychological distress in addition to the physical distress from the immediate threat of death.
Those are important, to be sure.
However, it is still possible for those who did not read the books to understand the what, the why, the how, and the when.
Less so for this film.
So…
If people are complaining about one film becoming two
And it has gotten to you so much so that you actually believe splitting the rebellion into two films (thus making the weight of the situation and the ongoingness of the fight more easily felt by the audience) was a mistake
I present to you the suggestion of…
A longer film with an intermission.
Marvel’s been making hellaciously long films (with good reason) without an intermission.
How many people flocked to go see Infinity War and Endgame, knowing there was little to no opportunity to go to the bathroom without missing something important?
I promise Hunger Games fans wouldn’t be disappointed in a longer film, ESPECIALLY if there was an intermission.
Personally, besides previously mentioned things
Some missing things, less important to the continuity of the film, that I really missed:
Coriolanus singing Gem of Panem
The first Tribute Parade
Having seen certain Mentors and Tributes long enough to notice and care for their absence when they died
Lucky’s card tricks
The sense of unease from only being able to see the main section of the Arena
The explanation of how Sejanus and Coriolanus became friends and why no one else likes Sejanus (Coriolanus likes Sejanus in the book, though not nearly as much as Sejanus thinks. Coriolanus simply didn’t see the point in being an asshole, with Sejanus then clinging to the only boy who would give him the time of day until he’d grown on him. Though Coriolanus was loathe to admit it)
Ma Plinth feeding Coriolanus
Better visualization of just how on the brink of starvation the Snow family was
Grandma’am’s rose bushes
Any expression of just how attached Coriolanus was to his mother’s compact and the scent it contains
The answer to who really blew up the arena (because it’s not clear in the film or the book, though perhaps the ambiguity of the situation is intended to stay ambiguous)
A better representation of how the first sponsor gifts arrived and the learning curve for those controlling them
Sejanus’ full outburst upon seeing Marcus in the Arena and Coriolanus talking him down. More clearly showing Coriolanus’ lack of opposition to what Sejanus is trying to do and that he really only takes issue with the way Sejanus is going about it.
A visual cameo of original trilogy Coriolanus (right at the end, with the zoom and then freeze on Coriolanus’ face, would’ve been the perfect time to transition from one face to the other), even if only for a few seconds. (Yes, we got the audio of my favorite line from Coriolanus in the whole series, but I wanted to see him. I even got a bit dramatic feeling forsaken by Francis.)
Any mention of our canonically LGBTQ2IA+ characters being LGBTQ2IA+

Of course, the character of Pluribus Bell didn’t make it into The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes film
But when reading the book…
Am I the only one who pictured him more or less like Mr. Lyle from Penny Dreadful?

You ever think about internet friends who seem to have just dropped off the face of the earth? People you may know by only their first name or a screen name?
I do. I worry about them. I wonder if they’re okay. If they have another account somewhere else.
Thinking particularly about 13foxywolf666 from DeviantArt, LuminousNightmare from YouTube, World_Of_Sutherland from Instagram, and Sneverdeen from Instagram.
If you’re reading this, I miss you and hope you’re well.

I write quite a bit and keep it for myself because I only wrote it to get it out of my head, but I like to revisit it.
To those who write fan fiction and share it with the world, I appreciate you greatly and I thank you.
Whether it’s polished and highly edited, pockmarked with typos and missing punctuation, something for everyone, or something very niche.
It’s all perfect. From the bottom to the top.
some people really be out there typing fanfics longer than war and peace in their free time and then going on about their life like it's no big deal. how fucking incredible. like no offense to tolstoy but that was like. his whole job
