One Dress a Day Challenge
October: White Redux
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang / Sally Ann Howes as Truly Scrumptious
What's that, you say? A touch of black has crept into our white costumes? Oh, just ignore it. I'm sure it means nothing.
This movie is set somewhere between 1900 and 1910, but this costume really just suggests it without going for strict historical accuracy. I'm pretty sure boas like that were not for day wear, and just what is that thing on her head? Nevertheless, it's cute, and good for dancing in. Looking at this in comparison with a couple other costumes from around the same time, I'm getting the feeling that piping was a popular thing around the end of the 1960s.
Notice the faint polka dots on the bow on the bodice front!

I bought more pen colors. Now I'm UNSTOPPABLE!
Anyway, I wanted to practice on some human Pomni. And for some reason, this dress, specifically. Also...
JAX: She's got big ears.
RAGATHA: Shut up!!! She looks adorable! (Besides, your ears are bigger.)

Thoughts on: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ("we have Mary Poppins at home")
I laughed so hard at this description. LISTEN. YOU'RE NOT WRONG. And Mary Poppins is an objectively better movie. But I love Dick Van Dyke and have extremely precious memories of watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang with my childhood best friend and I am very fond of this very silly movie. Also Caractacus Potts/Truly Scrumptious was a formative ship:

In 1969, Mattel did their first foray into the media tie-in doll, with two dolls released that year in pop culture likeness.
These were Truly Scrumptious from the 1968 movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and the titular Julia from the 1968 - 1971 sitcom Julia.
The Julia Barbie was only the third doll in the Barbie line to be portrayed as Black, following Francie and Christie.
You will see a lot of Julias on the secondary market today with reddish hair - this is because of how the hair they used for her oxidized over time.
Mattel did a special rerelease of Julia for their 50th anniversary celebration series, with a reproduction of the original Julia doll and still with the same photograph of Julia actress Diahann Carroll on the box.
To the best of my knowledge there have been no new versions of Truly Scrumptious, nor any other Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Barbies.
