okay so:

the year is 2021. the month is june. the new season of hermitcraft, season 8, has just started, and everything is great! the hermits are all messing around, having fun, building insane things within the first week of the server being active, and generally having a good time. everyone's collected themselves into little factions, pranking each other, and it's all the fun, lighthearted, mostly-vanilla content hermitcraft is known for.

and then the split between minecraft versions 1.18 and 1.19 is announced. the delay of new terrain, and especially of new mobs like the warden, considerably disrupt several of the hermits' plans. but it's fine, they'll figure something out, they're professionals, and it mostly goes unnoticed.

about two weeks later, on november 9th, grian turns to mumbo jumbo in one of his episodes, and asks the famous question that would seal hermitcraft season 8's fate:

"mumbo, is the moon... big?"

suddenly, the fans panic. they search back through videos and streams, and realize that the moon had been abnormally large and stuck in a full-moon phase since october 30th. the Moon Big event has begun.

this is where the roleplay really starts. once the moon's size has been brought up, the hermits start a weird combination of scrambling to figure out why the moon's growing, and how to stop it- but also of ignoring it, hoping it won't be a problem, hoping someone else will deal with it. the moon keeps getting bigger, more hermits start realizing it's going on, and a creeping sense of dread starts to grow. but it's fine. it's fine, right? they do little plotlines like this all the time. they'll figure something out, the moon will go back to normal, and we'll laugh about it when this is all over. it's fine.

and then, blocks start flying away. just floating up out of the ground, and falling right back down! like for a moment, a square meter chunk of dirt has decided it's a ballerina and leaped out of the ground! but it's fine, right? the blocks are coming back. no lasting harm is done. they're going to fix it all... right?

the moon gets bigger. it's growing every day- local hermit weirdguy joe hills measures it every stream. the blocks start flying higher. gravity starts getting... weird, with players getting the slow falling effect at random, and being lifted off of the earth themselves. the players form cults and rituals and whatnot to try and appease the moon, convince it to leave them alone, making plans to escape. nothing works. things keep getting worse, and the moon keeps getting bigger. but it'll be fine. these storylines never leave lasting harm, or at least they never have before. they'll be fine.

and then the blocks stop coming back, just floating into the sky forever. the players have the slow falling effect more than they don't now. the moon is now so big it's visible even during the day, and fills the entire sky at night. they start planning their escapes in earnest, and say their goodbyes. some hermits jump into a void hole in the overworld (it was the centerpiece of their village). some flee to the End, some to the nether, some just fly with elytras and hope they can get far enough away in time. one brave hermit, tango, flies himself to the moon in a futile attempt to blow the whole thing up before it can crash.

but in the end, the moon crashes into the server, and everything they'd built was destroyed. and the whole time, there'd been nothing any of them could've done. season eight was over, a full six months before anyone had expected it to end, and season nine wouldn't start until about three months later. and im still not okay about it.

separating dental insurance from normal medical coverage and making it fucking impossible to navigate is evil, actually

#i don't have a dentist rn because i have switched insurance 3 times in 3 years #and i just got my new insurance in january and i never got a fucking insurance card #anyway this tooth issue from a couple years ago came back in force last week #and so I'm trying to find someone to look at it but most places don't take emergency patients if you haven't been there before #half the dentists in my area are known for telling people they have 30 cavities so i do NOT want to walk in with an actual problem #and there's a dental urgent care but they don't say what insurance they take and my insurance phone tree is not telling me what is fucking #covered #jesus fucking christ #and I don't know if I'm looking at a couple hundred or ten thousand dollars here #i think this tooth is going to have to go eventually but i don't know if it has to go NOW #screaming #maybe i just do not eat any hot or cold food for the next three months???? #op

Guys guys guess what!!! I'm still struggling with health issues and writing takes a lot of effort I just don't have the energy for. But some friends decided it could be fun to do a little fanfic/fanart collab. And it's just a silly casual thing so its okay that it will take me a really long time. So im gonna be working on an enby Dazai fic that will get fanart with it!!!! I'm really excited. I hope it turns out good. This will be the first project I'm working on since I went of hiatus and im worried it will escalate my issues again but im going to try anyways. Wish me luck!!!!

#girl help i went on the lotro forums by accident #and ended up on someones thread complaining about how we never get any new content #i think one of my big issues with this is like. do you not have a job? or any other hobbies? #like im not shitting on people who dont have jobs. ive spent my fair share of time unemployed #but its wild that you apparently have NOTHING else going on in your life except for ONE mmo #they said there was only about a weeks worth of new stuff #youre telling me you got through everything in a week? one week #i started sometime mid december and spent a good long time playing the game #because i had a lot of hours cut in late december and january. so guess what i did while i wasnt at work #and i just finished a few days ago??? it took me two months???????? #like i dont know if theres anything that will entertain you if you insist upon blasting through everything so fast #this is a you problem and you are going to find it everywhere you go not just here #i also hate when people complain about this because i feel that the devs react to it by making endgame stuff more grindy #i dont want it to be more grindy #unlike SOME people i have a life outside this game but i would still like to succeed at it

#fave spotting #edward woodward #callan #the saint #the persistent patriots #1967 #david callan #classic tv #eddy is the named guest star for this episode but actually he wasn't really the household name he would become at this point #in fact this ep was the first Saint episode to air in the uk in 1967 on January 6th‚ setting off a banner year for Woodward that would #be the making of his career. he'd done a few guest spots (Sergeant Cork and Mogul among them) and yes he'd had some stage success #but 67 was his year; around the same time as this Saint appearance he could be seen on the BBC's celebrated drama strand Theatre 625 as the #lead in a multi episode adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's Sword of Honour‚ and almost exactly a month later he'd be making his first screen #appearance as Callan in the Armchair Theatre pilot A Magnum for Schneider‚ the beginning of tv immortality and bigger and better things for #the actor. here he's... well he's serious and he's sullen (two of Ed's strengths as an actor) in a role which.. is FINE on the surface but #absolutely begs some deeper questions. he's the prime minister of an unnamed African country‚ in London to negotiate the independence of #said country from the UK. it's.. a complicated issue (which this single Saint episode absolutely fails to address but I'd have been truly #astonished if it had). i mean yes we're all anti colonialism here of course (even if Simon does seem suspiciously morose about the prospect #of losing another colony in his opening voice over‚ he at least appears to be on Eddy's side through the episode) but there's a kind of #deafening silence throughout this ep: Ed is of course white. his various ministers and other government officials who oppose him are all #also white. the titular 'patriots' who oppose him and make attempts on his life and to prevent the process of independence are all white #the most obvious comparison to be drawn (and presumably the main inspiration for the character) is Rhodesian prime minister Ian Smith #who had led the white minority government of what is now Zimbabwe from 1964 and had been involved in similar negotiations with the british #government (that fell apart in late 65 as Smith's government announced Rhodesia's unilateral independence; the country then became an #unrecognised state subject to economic sanctions that lasted more than a decade). the thing is‚ Smith was a racist piece of shit; the whole #reason those negotiations broke down was because of his refusal to secure black representation in Rhodesia's governance #which makes the complete absence of any black characters in this episode a major red flag. but Ed's character isn't presented as the #villain of the piece; the episode is adamant that the work he's doing is selfless and for the betterment of his country‚ and it isn't as if #Smith was a particularly popular figure in the uk at this point for the ep makers to be painting a positive portrait of him. idk #it's messy. at best tone deaf and at worst.. well. i wish Ed had had a better ep to guest star in that's all im saying

#this is definitely because i went out and got sloppy at some trashy bars on Wednesday 😕 my fault #first time ive gone barhopping in a couple of months. of course id pick something up of COURSE #i havent been sick since may though (unless you count the sinus congestion issues i had during travel in September) so thats good! #but when i was a kid id get sick once in October and once in march every year like clockwork. sometimes once in January too. #but last year i didnt get my October illness so i feel like im overdue #im sure im fine its just a sinus infection to be endured. ive had a million of them in my life its no big deal #but it sucks being sick on a friday night and ill probably be cancelling my Saturday and Sunday plans too just to be safe
