I'm legitimately scared to talk about my depression and intrusive suicidal thoughts on here because every single time I do, I get unsolicited messages from strangers about my kids potentially missing me if I die, which doesn't help when my worst intrusive thoughts center around the statement "I'm personally responsible for everything bad that happens to my kids and they won't be safe or happy until I'm dead."

Like, that's not even my main thought today, but if I say what is, I'm inevitably going to get another message from a stranger like, "wouldn't your kids miss you? Only BAD parents have suicidal thoughts!" Like thanks, wanna load the pistol for me?

From my experience, that happens to most people in the troubled youth industry at least once.

I just called the psychiatrist office I thought I was referred to for medication management.

I found out that I was actually referred for talk therapy only because apparently my family doctor thinks that I don't need to be on mood stabilizers for my bipolar disorder despite the fact that I've tried going off of them before and it's always ended in hospitalization and a suicide attempt.

I asked if I could see their psychiatrist and I was told that the only opening that they have at all for this year is October 28th.

The receptionist tried to say that I could manage without medication until then and asked me "you have what? Like, anxiety or something?"

I got upset and replied "I have severe bipolar disorder, complex post-traumatic stress disorder, autism, OCD, agoraphobia and related anxiety, and a dissociative disorder that is currently not otherwise specified but is more than likely due to my PTSD. I can't go 6 months without seeing a psychiatrist. Do you expect me to cold turkey off of my mood stabilizers, or just kill myself?"

Upon hearing me sarcastically ask that she demanded that I go to the emergency room and go to a psych ward immediately. I refused and pointed out that I was just giving her a realistic example of what happens whenever people with severe mental health disorders are forced to go without their medication. Whenever I've been off of my mood stabilizers for prolonged periods of time, I have attempted suicide. Every single time. I'm not currently suicidal, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't be if I stopped taking my lithium until fucking October.

So she threatened to call a welfare check and I told her go ahead. The police are probably on their way to my house to hear me reiterate the fact that I just asked them "what do you think would happen if I cold turkey off of my bipolar meds and stop seeing a psychiatrist for 6 months?"

So this is what happens whenever people actually reach out for help regarding their mental illnesses. This is not the first time something like this has happened. I have had this happen in multiple places throughout the past 20 years of my life, where doctors or receptionists will be rude or will just not be helpful and whenever I reply with sarcasm or point out the reality of the situation, they get mad at me.

They don't get mad at the fact that I am realistically pointing out that I have bipolar disorder and PTSD that causes suicidal ideation and I am reaching out for help but I can't get it, they get mad at the fact that I point out the fact that me not taking care of these things has consequences and that I am not solely responsible for those consequences if I am trying to reach out for help and trying to maintain my medication and doctors are failing me.

Personally I'm mad at the fact that someone who works as psychiatrist office can realistically expect someone who's been on mood stabilizers since 2001 to stop them cold turkey for 6 months because "it's just like anxiety or something and you can totally like I don't know just control it on your own medication isn't really necessary" because that's literally the exact opposite of what someone who works there should be saying to someone. Even if I did have "like just anxiety" I would still be just as much in need of psychiatric care as I currently am because anxiety isn't a fucking joke. But I guess psychiatrists and psychiatric nurses and receptionists just really don't give a shit and really think that everyone with mental health issues can just deal with it on their own if they somehow "get over it".
