sometimes i get really into some song's lyrics, it's like i keep googling them again and again, analyzing them, writing them down...
it's one of those times and it's night and i should be sleeping.

“when they ask what do i see i see a bright white beautiful heaven hangin’ over me”
i am honestly surprised that a) i apparently listened to the national very much this year and b) the song i listened the most this year is from them, too.
i think “don’t swallow the cap” is a good song, that’s for sure. and i’ve done some pretty deep research on its lyrics, too. i just don’t remember listening to it that much?? anyway, this song is totally worth a listen (or two or three or dozens). once more: thanks the national.

“we’re all gonna die”
well. there’s so much to this song that i chose not to write a huge essay here. this is the first song by sufjan that i ever heard and it's been an interesting journey.
thanks sufjan stevens.

“take your sunglasses off and put them back on again i’ve created a force field and i hope no one breaks it”
the garden is one of the discoveries i made this year. and what a band they are. i couldn’t have believed i’d actually end up liking their punk-ish, partly cacophonic music. i listened to this band a lot during summer and really got into it, watching and reading every interview with the band’s members, twins fletcher and wyatt shears. “all smiles over here :)” is the first song i heard. i was drawn to it by the funny song title (like in baio’s case…). soon i listened to the whole album, interestingly named “haha”. i was hooked. now summer’s far gone and i don’t really follow the garden that closely, but i believe the band really made an impact so big that i’ll keep coming back every now and then. thanks the garden. :)

"say what you love, it's alright don't be afraid to find the light embrace the day, like night -- and you have the name of someone i love" this has so many super catchy parts and to be honest that is the main reason i've listened to this so much. i've listened it while studying, while cooking, on the bus... a lot. and this song is my ultimate autumn 2017 song. one time i was cleaning the kitchen and - surprise - singing to this song out loud. i thought i was alone but suddenly my flatmate appeared and that was somewhat embarrassing. (i hadn't met them before.) good memories. thanks foster the people.

"maybe i listen more than you think" ah, it is time for this band and another mysterious song again! i was excited when i got a notification that the national's new album is out. this song is the one that i've listened to the most out of that record. the lyrics aren't too easily interpreted, but wild guesses can be taken. (*bill wurtz voice*: societyyyyyy...) thanks the national. again.

SO MUCH DANCING! oh yes i’m not too good of a dancer but this one just hits something in me. it’s so uplifting. not too bad lyrics-wise, either. but jamming and dancing are the things i associate with this song. and summer. thanks milky chance. ps. i remember one time i was randomly walking in a clothing store and this came on and i started smiling like an idiot. it was also summer. it was good. pps. i don’t necessarily think smiling is an idiotic thing to do.

document your journey
it makes me so happy to know that people write - to see so much poetry on tumblr, to read a book i got for christmas, to notice random shopping lists laying abandoned on grocery store floors… the fact that people think there’s something worth writing about means that they still want to transmit their thoughts, their experiences.
it means people think there’s something worth remembering and even others to know about.
when i’m dwelling in the depths of misery, when i feel anxiety taking place and everything feels so hopeless, i try to write about it. or about something else - but just write. let something out, have a proof of me on the paper or on the glowing screen of my computer.
documenting my journey helps me to give life a meaning.

"think about something so much you should know me better than that start to slide out of touch you should know me better than that" another one from the national. and i also don't quite know what this song is about, but i suggest it tells a story about a relationship where the two people feel misunderstood. but who knows, that's one part of the beauty of (song) writing: there can sometimes be a million ways to interpret things. anyway, i think the reason i listened to this particular song so much is simply the way it sounds. i think this song is just so easy to listen to, to me it "sounds balanced". (oh boy i handle proper music vocalbulary so damn well.) i really do like this song. thanks the national, again.
