RED - but make it PJO
state of grace - percy & annabeth
"You come around and the armor falls Pierce the room like a cannon ball Now all we know is don't let go We are alone, just you and me Up in your room and our slates are clean Just twin fire signs, four blue eyes
So you were never a saint And I've loved in shades of wrong We learn to live with the pain Mosaic broken hearts But this love is brave and wild”
red - piper to jason
“Loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street Faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly Loving him is like trying to change your mind once you're already flying through the free fall Like the colors in autumn, so bright just before they lose it all Losing him was blue like I'd never known Missing him was dark grey all alone Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met But loving him was red Loving him was red”
treacherous - may castellan
“I can't decide if it's a choice Getting swept away I hear the sound of my own voice Asking you to stay And all we are is skin and bone Trained to get along Forever going with the flow But you're friction
This slope is treacherous This path is reckless This slope is treacherous I, I, I like it”
i knew you were trouble - silena to luke
“Once upon a time, a few mistakes ago I was in your sights, you got me alone You found me, you found me, you found me I guess you didn't care, and I guess I liked that And when I fell hard you took a step back Without me, without me, without me And he's long gone when he's next to me And I realize the blame is on me”
all too well - rachel to percy
“ Oh, your sweet disposition and my wide-eyed gaze We're singing in the car, getting lost Upstate Autumn leaves falling down like pieces into place And I can picture it after all these days And I know it's long gone And that magic's not here no more And I might be okay But I'm not fine at all ”
22 - greek demigods
“Yeah, We're happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time It's miserable and magical. Oh, yeah Tonight's the night when we forget about the deadlines It's time”
stay stay stay - calypso to leo
“You took the time to memorize me: My fears, my hopes, and dreams. I just like hangin' out with you all the time. All those times that you didn't leave; It's been occurring to me I'd like to hang out with you for my whole life. Stay. And I'll be loving you for quite some time. No one else is gonna love me, when I get mad, mad, mad. So I think that it's best if we both stay, stay, stay, stay, stay, stay.”
the last time - luke to annabeth
“I find myself at your door Just like all those times before I'm not sure how I got there All roads—they lead me here I imagine you are home In your room, all alone And you open your eyes into mine And everything feels better”
holy ground - hazel to sammy
“Spinning like a girl in a brand new dress, We had this big wide city all to ourselves. We blocked the noise with the sound of ‘I need you’, And for the first time I had something to lose, And I guess we fell apart in the usual way. And the story’s got dust on every page, But sometimes I wonder how you think about it now. And I see your face in every crowd. Cause darling, it was good never looking down. And right there where we stood was holy ground. Tonight I’m gonna dance for all that we’ve been through. But I don’t wanna dance if I’m not dancing with you. Tonight I’m gonna dance like you were in this room. But I don’t wanna dance if I’m not dancing with you”
sad beautiful tragic - sally to poseidon
“Long handwritten note deep in your pocket Words, how little they mean when you're a little too late I stood right by the tracks, your face in a locket Good girls, hopeful they'll be and long they will wait We had a beautiful magic love there What a sad beautiful tragic love affair In dreams I meet you in warm conversation We both wake in lonely beds, different cities And time is taking its sweet time erasing you And you've got your demons, and, darling, they all look like me”
the lucky one - percy jackson
“And they tell you that you’re lucky. But you’re so confused, 'Cause you don’t feel pretty, you just feel used. And all the young things line up to take your place. Another name goes up in lights. You wonder if you’ll make it out alive. And they’ll tell you now, you’re the lucky one. Yeah, they’ll tell you now, you’re the lucky one. Can you tell me now, you’re the lucky one, oh, oh, oh.”
everything has changed - jason & reyna
'Cause all I know is we said, "Hello" And your eyes look like coming home All I know is a simple name Everything has changed All I know is you held the door And you'll be mine and I'll be yours All I know since yesterday is everything has changed Come back and tell me why I'm feeling like I've missed you all this time, oh, oh, oh And meet me there tonight And let me know that it's not all in my mind”
starlight - frank & hazel
He said, "Look at you: worrying too much about things you can't change. You'll spend your whole life singing the blues if you keep thinking that way." He was tryna skip rocks on the ocean, saying to me, "Don't you see the starlight, starlight? Don't you dream impossible things?" Like "Oh my, what a marvelous tune." It was the best night, never would forget how we moved The whole place was dressed to the nines, And we were dancing, dancing Like we're made of starlight, starlight Like we're made of starlight, starlight
begin again - nico & will
“You said you never met someone Who had as many James Taylor records as you But I do We tell stories and you don't know why I'm coming off a little shy But I do But you throw your head back laughing like a little kid I think it's strange that you think I'm funny 'cause he never did I've been spending the last eight months Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again”

rereading the PJO and HoO - part one: the lightning thief
before i start, all italicized parts are from the lightning thief by rick riordan. they're not my words and these are not my characters. my thoughts are the only thing that are mine :)
• "mom, you're coming too." her face was pale, her eyes as sad as when she looked at the ocean. "no!" i shouted, you are coming with me. help me carry grover". - the first(ish) appearance of percy's fatal flaw! i love the early establisment, especially because it helps foreshadow to the sea of monsters when fatal flaws are formally introduced.
• "that's -" "pasiphae's son," my mother said. "i wish i'd known how badly they wanted to kill you." - sally is underappreciated. she's smart as hell and clearly took the time to research demigods. yes, she was a little bit selfish with keeping percy out of the loop and not sending him to camp. but can you blame her? she lost all of her family and if she sent percy to CHB at an early age, that most nearly means she won't see him often (he'll attract monsters because he's aware of his status as a demigod and will most likely be at camp full-time). but sally ensured that she knew enough about the demigod world to protect percy because she knew that her selfishness would come with consequences. best mom.
• i was crying, calling for my mother, but i held on to grover - i wasn't going to let him go. - percy's first loss as a demigod and i am broken. honestly, so sad to think of, especially knowing all the losses he'll face in the future books. this line is also his fatal flaw showing once again (refer to first bulletpoint)
• "it (america) is the great power of the west. and so olympus is here. and we are here." - if olympus follows the west, where would the next location be? obviously, america is still a big powerhouse in terms of western civilization but that's not going to last. my bet is south korea but who knows? would love a fanfic on this tbh
• "the truth is, i can't be dead. you see, eons ago the gods granted my wish. i could continue the work i loved. i could be a teacher of heroes as long as humanity needed me. i gained so much from that wish... and i gave up so much. but i'm still here, so i can only assume i'm still needed." - how will it be decided that he's not needed? honestly, can't imagine CHB without him but chiron also deserves retirement
• i started to understand luke's bitterness and how he seemed to resent his father, hermes so okay, maybe gods had important things to do. but couldn't they call once in a while, or thunder or something? - percy has always showed some hesitance when accepting the demigod world, so i wasn't really surprised to see doubts like this pop up, especially with luke's influence. i'd think most demigods feel this way, luke and percy are just the ones who exhibit it the most in the series. i'm really interested in the parallels between the two and i'm looking forward to reading more and examining them
• "during the winter solstice, at the last council of the gods, zeus and poseidon had an argument. the usual nonsense: 'mother rhea always liked you best', 'air disasters are more spectacular than sea disasters', etc. - despite the fact that the gods are all-powerful beings, i appreciate the petty sibling spats that are mentioned briefly
• "so let me get this straight," i said. "i'm supposed to go to the underworld and confront the world of the dead." "check," chiron said. "find the most powerful weapon in the universe." "check." "and get it back to olympus before the summer solstice in ten days." "that's about right." i looked at grover, who gulped down the ace of heaers. "did i mention that maine is very nice this time of year?" he asked weakly. - this would be perfect for those 30 second trailers
• "gee," i said feigning surprise. "who else would be stupid enough to volunteer for a q uest like this?" the air shimmered behind chiron. annabeth became visible, stuffing her yankees cap into her back pocket. - the way he knows her pretty well already, i-
• the truth was, i didn't care about retrieving zeus' lightning bolt, or saving the world, or even helping my father out of trouble. - early on, we see from the get go that percy has a dislike for the gods. it's small mentions like this that really gets me thinking. he never really showed any dislike of the gods when he first arrived at camp (understandable) but he was hopeful for his father. it wasn't until luke planted the seed into his head that these thoughts came to light. i love this little detail, especially as we know that towards the end, luke does seem to think he can turn percy against the gods. his plan backfired a little bit on him in the end but like i said before, the parallels between luke and percy are so glaring. riordan definitely thought it out extensively
• do not be a pawn of the olympians, my dear. you would be better off as a statue - this is said to percy by medusa and again, feeds into his dislike of the gods. i wonder if monsters have some opinion on this. most would probably hate the gods but i wonder what their stance is on demigods. we know that they work with them (see kronos' army). the real enemy for monsters are the gods, the demigods killing them are just pawns to the gods so maybe that's how some monsters see them
• "so, what's your status?" luke asked me. "chiron will be sorry he missed you." i told him pretty much everything, including my dreams. it felt so good to see him, to feel like i was back at camp even for a few minutes, that i didn't even realize how long i had talked to him until the beeper went off on the spray machine. - there's no doubt that percy really considered luke a friend. he wasn't hesitant to tell luke about his dreams, something that he didn't share with annabeth or grover until later on the book. luke was a sort of mentor to percy and it was conveyed pretty well through their interactions, which makes his betrayal even more heartbreaking
• "you think you'll ever try living with your dad again?" she wouldn't meet my eyes. "please. i'm not into self-inflicted pain." - my heart breaks for annabeth and her relationship with her father. i've read most of the riordanverse books and the growth in annabeth's relationship with her family is definitely something i'm looking forward to watch grow as i make my way through the books again
• i looked over at the desk and saw a girl sitting there, also wearing a straitjacket - so i never paid the dreams any mind but now that i think about it, they're really good for analysis. for example, the straitjacket could mean something like the gods are keeping them restrained. maybe i'm overthinking it or have been analyzing text too much in AP english but i think that the dreams are worth some deeper thinking
• i pretended not to see annabeth wipe a tear from her cheek as she listened to the mournful keening of cerberus in the distance, longing for his new friend - i need to see annabeth play with cerberus again D:
• i turned and faced my mother. i desperately wanted to sacrifice myself and the last pearl on her, but i knew what she would say. she would never allow it. i had to get the bolt back to olympus and tell zeus the truth. i had to stop the war. - percy's growth as a character really shines through here. the lightning thief is a pretty short book and the journey they took was less than 2 weeks but despite that percy's grown immensely as a character. his goal was always to save his mother but in the end, he sacrificed her because he knew it was his duty to save olympus and i respect that
• "you have made an enemy, godling," he told me. "you have sealed your fate. every time you raise your blade in battle, everytime you hope for success, you will feel my curse. beware, perseus jackson. beware." - ares cursed percy to be unsuccesful in battle but does his curse ever take effect? i don't recall any mention of this curse later on the series. obviously, percy is the main character and a really good swordfighter but the curse might have affected some battles right? but then again riordan has a lot of plotholes so i wouldn't put too much thought in it
• i knew dionysus must've filled it out, because he stubbornly insisted on getting my name wrong. - i've always accepted the fact that dionysus called the demigods by their wrong name for humor. but what if it's deeper? what if it's a way to put some space between him and the demigods, just as an extra precaution so he won't get attached. or it could be a ploy to showcase that he's more powerful than them and that they are beneath him, which is why he doesn't need to know their name. i like the former headcanon more though :P
• i opened my eyes. i was propped up in bed in the sickroom of the big house, my right hand bandaged like a club. argus stood guard in the corner. annabeth sat next to me, holding my nectar glass and dabbing a washcloth on my forehead. "here we are again," i said. - the parallel
well, that's everything i had notes on. overall, i liked rereading it. i really do miss this series and i'm finding my love for it be rekindled by rereading. i miss the humor of the early books (i could literally make a whole post of underrated lines). the last time i read the series in its whole was when i was 7 and now that i'm 16, i have more thoughts and can analyze the story better. also loved seeing baby percabeth as they're my OTP. i'm excited to continue with the series. to the sea of monsters!

y'all ever think about the fact that annabeth grew up with most of the camp? like by the time the battle of manhattan happened, she's been a camper for a decade. she formed bonds with the demigods who died, both the ones who were part of kronos' army and the ones who fought for camp half-blood. it breaks my heart to think of her crying after they've won the war because she's lost people she's known for YEARS. people who watched her grow up and were a huge part of her childhood. they were her family. annabeth has already lost so many people in her life and their deaths must have affected her more than we realized

avatar: the last airbender AU
FIRE
when the most recent avatar, gleeson from the earth kingdom, died, the fire nation was scoured to find out who the next avatar was. it took them a few years, five to be exact, but they eventually found leo and his mom in the outskirts of the fire nation
leo’s mom, esperanza, didn’t believe them. at the tender age of five, leo hasn’t even shown any signs of firebending, despite the fact that his father was one. she had long accepted the fact that he was nonbender. she sent the officials on their way, telling them there was no way her son was the avatar
when leo was six, he started showing signs of firebending. it started off small, with his body heating up at random times and the flames of their fires growing higher at his will. but by age eight, he was able to form flames by himself. he wasn’t a prodigy by any means but he was definitely more powerful than most firebenders his age
his neighbor, nyssa, was a couple years his senior and taught him te basics of firebending. his mother couldn’t afford firebending school on her meager salary and leo drank up any information given to him
but he mostly learned by watching other firebenders, eyes wide whenever he happened upon someone bending
when he was sixteen, he found out he was the avatar. the officials that had visited when he was five came by again, this time determined to show the valdez family that leo was the avatar
when the reality of the situation hit leo, he was scared
he knew of all the past avatars. he knew the responsibility it held. and he was scared. how was he, a boy who’s never known responsibility outside of helping his mother, supposed to be the avatar?
he was sixteen when he left his mother for the capital of the fire nation, where he would be trained to be the avatar. he begged for her to come, to start her life over there. but it simply wasn’t possible and he promised to visit her whenever he could
the next four years kept him busy. the first two years was spent learning the other elements. air and then water and finally, earth. he was eighteen when he finished his training in all four elements. the next two years was spent travelling around the world as a diplomat and meeting new people.
since he was born into a time of relative peace, he was mostly acting as a third party to small treaties and contracts being made. he’s quite sure if it wasn’t for team avatar, he would have gone crazy
leo’s always been hyperactive, something that got in the way as the avatar. he had to meditate, for agni’s sake! and he hated it. if it wasn’t gleeson telling him to be violent, it was triton telling him to try out surfing. meditating was supposed to be relaxing but instead, he had the past avatars in his ear
team avatar, his closest confidants, consist of three people. it’s a smaller group than what past avatars have had (dionysus had nearly twenty people in his team avatar, if rumors were to be believed)
there’s jason. he was the apprentice to leo’s airbending master and the first friend leo made. the two spar a lot and although jason is only limited to one element, he’s good. he’s beaten leo far too many times that it could be considered embarrassing
piper is the daughter of the fire nation’s most prestigious matchmaker. but you couldn’t tell that by looking at her, for she favored her water tribe father’s appearance more. she’s a nonbender but she’s dangerous, even for someone who has no combat training. she’s all eyelashes and pouts and has a mind like no other
(she has jason wrapped around her little finger)
calypso is a waterbender from the northern water tribe. leo’s quite sure he’s in love with her but she doesn’t give him the time of day when it comes to romance. she’s a great friend though, always there for him when he needs her. and she kicks his ass when it comes to waterbending. what more can a guy want?
it was at his friends’ suggestion that he go visit his hometown again. reground himself and relax. he hasn’t had a vacation since he was sixteen and he was nearing twenty-one. it didn’t take much convincing
he was twenty when he finally kept his promise to visit his mom. only to be greeted with nyssa’s sad eyes as she explained that she had died a few years prior
he was heartbroken. he holed up in his room in the palace and had to be forced out for his avatar duties. it took years but with the help of his friends, he healed and continued to live life as he had before
he was ninety-six when he died. he’d outlived his friends and had been hanging on by a thread, time taking its toll on him. he was buried next to his mother, in an unassuming grave you wouldn’t think would hold an avatar
AIR
thalia was born in the northern air temple, to a highly spiritual family
shortly before her birth, avatar leo had died at ninety-six. all infants of the air nomads were gathered. one-by-one, they were shown the avatar relics. thalia was the only one who chose the relics in the correct order
her parents travelled a lot and never took thalia with them, leaving her to the monks and nuns of the northern air temple. she never grew a close bond with them, although they promised her they would show her the world when she got her tattoos
as an air nomad, it was expected for her to be an airbender. it was common for a child to show signs of being an airbender before they were five. thalia was the lone exception, not showing signs of it until she was eight
this was due to her rebellious personality. due to the high spirituality of air nomads, all of them were benders and tapped into their powers at an early age. meditation was a daily routine for them, a routine that thalia hated
she hated staying still. she hated being left to thoughts. and she absolutely hated meditating. it wasn’t until she was seven that she stopped fiddling excessively while meditating and it took a year for her to show any signs of bending. the monks and nuns of the air temple could hardly believe she was the avatar
but well, thalia was a natural at airbending. although her powers came rather late, it was obvious that she was gifted. it didn’t take long for her to catch up to her peers, despite her late start in training. it took her a while to pass the thirty-six levels of airbending as her focus was lacking but she managed to do it shortly after she turned sixteen
on the eve of her tattooing ceremony, she was told that she was the avatar. it was long overdue, seeing as she had turned sixteen a few months prior. but the monks had waited for her to pass all thirty-six levels of airbending to tell her, wanting her to have mastered airbending before she dared to take on the remaining three elements
she found it hard to sleep that night
as the sun crept up the horizon, bathing the temple in its golden rays, thalia made up her mind. she packed what little belongings she had and ran away
she had always known she wasn’t fit for the air nomad lifestyle. she was too brash, too active, and she had felt restricted. she knew that if she had stayed, she would have gone crazy. and who wants a crazy avatar?
she’s only been travelling for a week when her flying bison, aegis, joined her. in her rush to leave (and fear to wake anyone), she had left her lifelong companion behind. but aegis had found her, their bond too strong to forget
the two flew around pretty aimlessly for a while. they touched down in the earth kingdom a few weeks after her departure. there, they met luke. with his light hair and electric blue eyes, you could tell that he was trouble. but well, trouble always found itself to thalia and the two were fast friends
luke was a nonbender and belonged to no nation, preferring to travel by himself to see the world. he made ends meet by stealing and thalia could practically hear the monks tell her not to join him in his travels
she did so anyways
luke found it pretty believable that she was the avatar, saying she had a spark to her. the two decided that they would try and find her other benders to learn from, that way she can be a proper avatar. or as proper of an avatar she could be
when they stopped by a little town in the fire nation, they met silena and beckendorf. they were a couple torn apart by their families and were looking for a way out
beckendorf was a firebender and readily agreed to teach thalia, so long as silena could come along for the ride. and so, two became four. they set off for the northern water tribe next, knowing that it was full of benders
in one of their stops, they found a poster about thalia’s disappearance. it seemed like news of her running away had reached the other lands. the fire nation and earth kingdom were eager to find her, wanting her on their side if disputes ever formed
the group was quick to tear down any posters and decided they would avoid major cities for the most part. recognition already flashed in people’s eyes when they looked at thalia
she wasn’t ready to be the avatar yet. she wanted to travel the world before she settled down and began her life as the figurehead for peace and balance
the next few years of her life was spent travelling. she learned the other elements, doing her best to stick to the proper order. in their travels, they helped the less fortunate and gained a reputation in the four nations as somewhat of vigilantes. the fact that she was the avatar solidified their reputation
despite her promise to start her official duties as the avatar once she travelled the world, thalia found that she didn’t want to stop
instead, she chose to live by her own rules. she helped out whenever she was needed but never stepped foot in any official politics. she lived in a world of peace and egged on by leo, her mentor in all things avatar, she decided that she could do more good in the world by travelling than by being stuck in political meetings
she lived to be one hundred and fifteen. she spent the last leg of her life in the outskirts of the earth kingdom, having given up her previous lifestyle to live out her last days in peace
WATER
percy was born in the southern water tribe
his mother, sally, was originally from the northern water tribe. she was all percy had. his father was a prince of the northern water tribe, betrothed to a noble there. despite that, he had fallen in love with sally
when sally found out that she was pregnant with percy, she knew life in the north wasn’t for her. not only were they more traditional and treated women as objects, her status as an unattached pregnant woman would mean a life full of grief for both her and the child
with the help of poseidon, she snuck into a trade ship going to the southern water tribe. the journey was tough, especially considering she was pregnant. but she lived off the little supplies poseidon had given her for the journey
when she arrived at the southern water tribe, she was quick to marry gabe in an effort to make it seem like the baby was his. a retired hunter, gabe was a nonbender and passing him off as percy’s father would push her worries of the slim chance that percy would be a waterbender to the back of her mind
she gave birth to percy a few months after her arrival at the southern water tribe and mere days after avatar thalia’s death. when percy was barely learning to walk, sally was told that he was the avatar
and her heart dropped. for while the northern and southern water tribes were at peace, the northern tribe would often take all waterbenders from the south for training. everyone knew it was because they wanted to claim the next avatar as northern water tribe and ever since thalia’s death, any water tribe child who showed signs of waterbending were to be sent up north
sally didn’t want to lose percy
they lived the next few years in relative peace, save for the few times gabe got angry and hit sally
that’s how percy’s powers were discovered. during one of gabe’s angry rages, percy had doused him with water to protect his mom. after that revelation, the chief of the southern water tribe wrote to the northern tribe and percy was set to move to the northern pole for training
he begged sally to go with him but she refused, saying she had left the tribe for a reason
at twelve years old, percy was sent to the northern tribe with only his mother’s stone necklace to remind him of his old life
it took him a while but he settled into life there. he trained, wrote home often, and clutched onto the stone necklace like his life depended on it. the chief of the water tribe, poseidon, took a special interest in him and the two sparred from time to time
at age sixteen, he was told that he was the avatar
and his life was uprooted once again. this time, he was sent to the fire nation to train under the best firebenders. they would train him in the northern water tribe but well, firebenders never reacted well with the climate so the fire nation it is
the next few years were spent training. he had accepted the fact that he was the avatar quicker than expected, though a bit begrudgingly at first. for the most part, it wasn’t a bad life. he didn’t like meditating as his mentor, thalia, was always in his ear and always encouraged him to “screw shit up”
and every time he countered that he was the avatar, he can’t exactly do that, she would scoff and tell him about her tales as the avatar
during his years in training, he met what would soon become his team avatar
there was annabeth. she was a nonbender but what she lacked in powers, she made up for in her prowess in weapons and strategy. the two got off on the wrong foot, as percy had accidentally singed her hair while he was firebending
but because they were one of the few people their age in the large fire nation palace, they slowly became friends
it helped that grover was there to smooth things along. he was an earthbender, a damn good one at that. the best student of percy’s earthbending teacher, grover was a few years percy’s senior and always cheered him up when percy was struggling
the story of the time grover accidentally caused an earthquake when he was younger never fails to make percy laugh
when his training was finally over and his life as the avatar officially began, annabeth and grover joined him in his travels. they would even sit in the meetings with him, annabeth whispering to him about the treaties and grover keeping him entertained
during their travels, they met tyson. he was exiled from the northern water tribe and had been travelling alone. percy immediately invited him to come along with them, much to tyson’s delight and annabeth’s displeasure
when he was eighteen, percy decided to find his real dad. he had always suspected that gabe wasn’t his real father and after some pestering, sally relented and told him the full story
it took some convincing but soon, they set out for the northern water tribe
using the necklace his mother had left him, percy asked every male old enough to be his father if they recognized it. it only took him four tries before he was pointed to the chief’s igloo, for the carving seemed like his handiwork
his father was the chief of the northern water tribe
at first, he was angry. but over the years, he mellowed out and got to know poseidon. and while he could never redo his years without a father, he was pretty content with who he turned out to be
when he was thirty-five, percy stopped travelling and settled down with annabeth. the two had two children, the eldest being a water bender. he died at age eighty, having lived a full and happy life
EARTH
hazel grew up in the earth kingdom, with her mother as her only family
her mother was a nonbender who dabbled in sorcery, a practice frowned upon by the government. most people knew about it and hazel, who has always been the black sheep of her school, became even more of an outcast
her only friend was sammy. he came from a long line of firebenders, his ancestors being fire nation refugees from the last major war. despite the generations that had passed and the mixing of earth and fire, sammy had defeated all odds and became a firebender
his powers made him an outcast in school but he always told hazel he didn’t mind because if it wasn’t for his powers, he never would have met her
sammy is there when she shows her first signs of earthbending. and he’s there when she finds out that she’s the avatar. her mother had been ecstatic. despite the fact that it was hazel that was the avatar, marie levesque celebrated as if she was the avatar and not her daughter
she’s barely mastered earthbending when she found out she was the avatar. and she’s heard of the avatars before her. they were all gifted in their element. and here she was, the girl who could barely lift a rock
because while she’s known that she’s been an earthbender for nearly half a decade, she’s never had the means to learn how to use her powers. her mother spends all their money on the necessities and her sorcery. there’s not much to spare for the earthbending academies that are scattered throughout the earth kingdom
and so, her learning officially started. she learns earthbending at the most prestigious academy there is, using her position as the avatar to her advantage. she feels bad for the littlest of moments but by her second day of classes, she had convinced herself that this was for the greater good
who wants an avatar that hasn’t even mastered her element?
once she finished her training at the academy (and gets a hastily-signed certificate of completion), she and sammy set off for the fire nation. along the way, they met nico
he was unassuming at first, draped in his finery that told them that he was well-off. he was the son of some earth kingdom nobles and he often escaped from them, suffocating from the grief in his house after his sister’s untimely death
when hazel asked if he wanted to join them, he was quick to agree. two turned into three. and three turned into four when they met reyna, another nonbender who had escaped from servitude from a sorceress
and hazel, knowing sorceresses and how crazy they could be, quickly brought her under their wing. this proved to be the right move, as reyna was a seasoned traveller and knew all the good spots to camp out and could barter like no other
when they arrived at the fire nation, they met apollo. he was hazel’s firebending teacher and despite his happy-to-go-lucky nature, he was a great one. whatever hazel was taught, she would show sammy. the two learned firebending together
airbending was taught by a monk from the western air temple. he was nice enough but his lessons were a bore. hazel secretly looked forward to when she mastered air so she didn’t have to suffer through one more lesson
she learned waterbending up in the northern water tribe. there, she met frank. he wasn’t much at first, scared and meek. but over the few months of her waterbending training, she learned that there was more that meets the eye
not only was frank a hunter, he was a waterbender. and while airbending should be her weakest element as its the direct opposite of her natural element, waterbending is her weakest. so, she asked him to join her in her travels as her waterbending teacher
he agreed
their little group now felt full
they travelled around from place to place quite happily. they would encounter some criminals here and there but it was always something they could handle
until it wasn’t
during a fight with some fire nation soldiers gone rogue, sammy was killed. hazel was devastated. sammy, the person who had been there for her since she was a child. now, after twenty years of having him by her side, he was gone
she didn’t know what to do with herself. so she busied herself by doing her avatar duties. she meditated longer than necessary. she played around with her bending to distract herself
that’s how she found out that she could metalbend. it took her a lot of training but soon, her metalbending was as smooth as her earthbending
she died at one hundred years old, a century of friendships made and a legacy left behind

percy jackson - royalty au
there are three main kingdoms. the north is ruled by king zeus and queen hera, a couple who rule with an iron fist and have rumors surrounding them. zeus is always running off having affairs and many seem to think that his children are illegitimate. they have good reason to believe so
the king and queen had two children. a spitfire of a girl named thalia and jason, who was basically as perfect as can be. thalia was the heiress to the throne, though she gave it up in favor of joining the huntresses. not much is known about her, seeing as she gave up her throne when she was merely fourteen
jason proved to be a better fit to be the kingdom’s heir. he was quick to learn on the kingdom’s long history and had a talent for pleasing people. he’s always keeping up with the country’s economy and the people just adore him
the south is ruled by king hades and his queen, the lovely persephone. they have two children, a doll-like daughter by the name of bianca and a brooding son named nico. bianca is the heiress to the throne and her brother is a soldier in the north’s army, slowly moving up the ranks. they’re famous for their coal and jewels, though they’re also known for their crops. not to mention that they have a large population of elders due to the advanced types of medicine in the kingdom
the east is most powerful kingdom, ruled by queen athena. the east wasn’t always ruled by the queen. rumors say that it was once ruled by a kind man named poseidon but something went down and queen athena took over the throne. the east is known for their inventions and advanced technology and they have the best army in the land
the heiress is princess annabeth, an intelligent young woman with the typical looks of a princess. but her eyes, a stormy gray, throw the image off. she has no recollection of her father but she doesn’t really care. her mother is more than enough
the forests are ruled by the amazons. a tribe of women ruled by queen hylla and her sister. they’re strong and not to be trifled with. the amazons had promised reyna, queen hylla’s sister, to prince jason in an act to try and save their tribe. everything was going well until reyna ran off with one of the north’s bodyguards, a slim girl with queen hera’s features and storm-like eyes
once king zeus found out, he was enraged. he sent out his best soliders in search of the two girls, nico in the lead. the king swore vengeance. soon the north was in turmoil with the amazons. a war was brewing
desperate, the king turns to the east kingdom. athena sees it as an oppurtunity and the two arrange a deal. in exchange for some of athena’s army, the north will give the east some better means of travelling. athena is skeptical and says she’ll only sign if their two heirs are to be married, bringing a strong union between the two kingdoms. zeus agrees
when annabeth catches news of this, she screams. while jason was pleasant young man, she had no wishes to marry him. annabeth and athena argue about this and athena accidentally lets a key bit of information out. hazel, the kingdom’s sorceress, had predicted that annabeth will fall in love with someone who will bring the kingdom to ruins. athena saw the marriage between jason and annabeth as a way to prevent this
angry, annabeth storms to the tower where hazel resides and demands to know what the prediction was. hazel tells her what she can, though it isn’t much as she had made the prediction years ago, when she was first hired by the queen. annabeth is walking away when she gets an idea. hazel is not only known for her predictions but for her potions as well. annabeth asks if there’s some kind of potion that will help get her out of this mess
hazel’s a bit hesitant but she says that she may be able to brew some kind of potion that will help sway athena. annabeth agrees and walks off, promising to visit hazel everyday to see how the potion’s going
meanwhile, jason is against the marriage but stays quiet, his blue eyes dull as his father proposes a trip to the east so jason can get to know annabeth better. the wink zeus throws his way tells jasoj that he means it in a more physical way and jason feels sick
when jason arrives at the east’s palace, a ball is thrown in honor of the engagement. he meets annabeth for the first time and is quite frankly scared. she didn’t even speak a word to him, her gray eyes set in a glare the whole time. the two of them only shared one dance and hardly exchanged glances
while annabeth was hostile towards him, a girl with kaleidoscope eyes gives him a smile and the two talk throughout the ball. her name is piper and she’s the daughter of the kingdom’s matchmaker. he has to admit she’s pretty, but not in the way most girls are. her beauty is more rough with her choppy hair and crooked smile. but her personality is what wins jason over. she’s funny and has a wicked sharp tongue. jason’s smitten before the ball even ends and he asks if the two of them could hang out. piper agrees, though she does mention that her best friend would like to tag along. he doesn’t mind
the following day, jason and annabeth share an awkward breakfast together. annabeth seems to have melted a little bit as she talks to him. but her words are clipped and she hardly smiles. he can see that she’s a wonderful girl but she just has her guard up. they finish their meal and went on their separate ways, annabeth to the tower and jason to the forge
annabeth is surprised to see a guard standing tall by the tower. he introduces himself as frank and she makes polite conversation with him. he lets her into the tower, shutting the door behind her with a small smile on his face as he catches a glimpse of hazel, who is leaning over a thick book. she jumps to her feet when she realizes annabeth is there, quickly shutting her book
annabeth had seen the way frank smiled when he spotted hazel and her curiosity lead to her asking hazel what was that about. the small girl blushes and she quietly explains that she and frank had a small friendship. she was lonely up in her tower and frank was often her only companion and she was his. the two had grown close, exchanging conversation over the thick doors
annabeth has to admit it’s sweet but she has no time to think about this. she steers the conversation back to the potion and the disappointed glint in hazel’s eyes tell her enough. there’s no such potion. annabeth knew it was a long shot but she was still disappointed. all hazel could offer was a potion that would help annabeth destress, which the blonde princess took without a second thought
after receiving the news, annabeth decided to head down to the kitchens for a snack. she grabs some of her scrolls from her room and is so engrossed in her scroll that she doesn’t notice the person heading her way. the two of them collide and fall to the floor, annabeth’s scrolls falling to the floor
the two start to apologize to the other profusely and annabeth offers him to come along with her to the kitchens. he nods, surprised at her offer. the two talk over their food and annabeth finds herself having more fun than she had with any of her suitors. who knew the cook’s son would be such a blast to be with? percy feels the same way towards her and the two form a quick friendship. they start to meet up everyday after lunch and one thing leads to another and soon their little friendship turns into something more
annabeth and jason still eat breakfast together but the two of them started to loosen up more. they grow comfortable with one another and one day, jason asks where annabeth always goes to after lunch. she admits that she has a slight interest in the cook’s son and jason laughs, admitting that he has a crush on the matchmaker’s daughter. the two promise to keep each other’s secret
meanwhile, nico is still on the hunt for reyna and the female guard (who he believes to be thalia). they’re skilled when it comes to living in the wild and it takes him weeks before he finds his first clue. a merchant has a circlet that reyna is known to wear. he explains that two girls had given it to him in exchange of supplies. nico asks if he knows the direction they went and the merchant tells him to ask will solace, a hunter who most likely would have seen the girls while he’s out in the woods
he hunts out will and the two have a rough meeting but the blond hunter agrees to join nico on his hunt. it takes a week for them to find another clue, a purple fabric that could belong to reyna’s dress. the two celebrate by stopping by a nearby town and buying dinner at a local pub. when the two set up camp, will suddenly gives nico a kiss that leads to something more
nico wakes up to a note from will that says he’s sorry. the blond’s horse and things are gone. all he left was one of his arrows
back in the castle, annabeth’s getting ready for her wedding day. once she’s alone in her room, she sneaks off to meet up with percy. the two of them had been planning this for months, with the help of jason and piper. the only other person to know about their plan is sally and she fully supported them. annabeth doesn’t even look back as the two of them ride away
jason stands at the altar for exactly two hours before athena grows cross and looks for annabeth. all she finds is a hastily-scrawn note from annabeth that said she was sorry
the grace family leave for their kingdom an hour later. not even a few days later, nico returns to the north with only a golden circlet and a purple fabric. the search is called off and the two are declared dead
percy and annabeth are nowhere to be found
