This is the way it should be. Not a task that we dread, but a highlight that we take with us throughout our day.
To me, time with Jesus is so cozy. It's the happiest part of my day. I make it relaxing and cute and fun. People always think reading your bible is a boring task, when really it's your execution that's boring. You are free to make your quiet time as stimulating and creative as you want.

Cleanse
You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. ~Psalm 119:114
A little while ago I decided to go on a Bible cleanse, and I want to tell you why that was the best decision I ever made. It's a bit of a longer post so hang in there. :)
(Disclaimer: There are some pages and preachers who are wonderful and I have learned so much from. I will forever be grateful for the effect that they have had on my life. The pages and preachers I am mentioning in this post are not those kind. They are the ones who preach fear and judgement, and gatekeep the kingdom of God for the people that they deem worthy of it.)
I spent more time in my day looking at instagram reels of someone talking about what they thought a certain Bible verse meant than I did actually reading the Bible. I was angry all the time, writing out harsh responses in the comments critiquing their misguided views on scripture. I spent hours on my phone fighting a pointless battle instead of finding peace in the word of God. I was angry, discouraged, and losing faith, but I held onto that anger because it felt important to me. Like if I wasn't indignant over these things, I was giving up on my principles.
Then I decided it was finally time to cut it all out. I hid pages and friends who consistently posted inaccurate controversial Biblical ideas to get more views. Scrolled past posts that drew politics into faith. Stopped fighting in the comment section.
I started reading a few chapters of my Bible ever day. Prayed more and told God about my day, asking for his guidance. And after a bit, I completely lost the desire to waste time on the things I did before.
Now, I am fulfilled instead of discouraged. I am bursting with hope instead of anger. Gaze straight forward on the word of God instead of the lies I was willingly allowing myself to be fed.
Sometimes it is things that hide under the guise of Christianity that actually lead us astray from God. When that begins to happen, we have to ask ourselves: Do I put my trust in the word of man, or the word of God? If any part of you says the former, it might be time to take a step back. Taking a break of "christian" influencers and pages has been eye opening for me, and it might be for you as well. We do not need anyone else to dilute our faith with their version of the truth. God's word is sufficient. Let us be overflowing with it, so that we can pour into others the love and truth that God has given us.
"If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." ~John 8:31-32

On Judging Others
"I'll stand in judgement for my sins and you for yours. I'm not adding to my list by judging you."
(Not my quote but I felt it was worth sharing.)
The Bible says that if your brother or sister in Christ is sinning, you should confront them the first time in a one on one conversation. (Matthew 18:15) This does not mean posting passive aggressive things on social media or gossiping about their sins. Let's bring the love and kindness back into Christian culture. We can still be honest with our fellow believers, without being mean or judgemental.

Christian Relationships
There are a lot of conversations about biblical dating and marriage, and all that entails. Honestly, the most important thing you can do is pray for the person you are with, and pray for your relationship. Pray that they will seek the Lord in everything they do. Pray that you will grow in your faith separately and together. Pray that you will work together for the good of his kingdom. If you include God in your relationship, he will guide you into a bright future.

TW: Self-harm.
I almost did. So many times. I have close friends who did.
I agree with everything in the original post, and I just have one more thing to add. If you are struggling with self harm, it does not mean you love God any less. There are many people out there who say that if you struggle with mental illness, it is because your faith isn't strong enough. I am telling you, do not listen to those lies. You can have the strongest faith and still struggle with these things. So just know that if you self-harm, you are not weak. God has given you the strength you need to get through this, you just need to find it. You will see yourself get better, because that's what God does. He heals us.
on self-harm.
I know sometimes it seems easier to give in, and that nobody should mind; it's not too bad, you don't need to go to hospital, so it's fine.
I know that's how it feels.
I also know that it's false. It's your mind tricking you. Forgive me, but your mind is sick. Mine is too. God knows it all. He sent his son, who was pierced for our transgressions: which means that we don't have to pierce ourselves for our transgressions. Christ has already paid the price, and paid it in his blood.
We do not need to pay it in our own. My dear fellow Christians, I know how hard it is to resist when it has become one of your coping mechanisms, and when you feel you deserve it. But God will go with you, and there are more than you think who have suffered thus.
Please take care of yourself. God be with you.

He said, 'I am God, the God of your father. Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for there I will make you into a great nation.' Genesis 46:3
Following and obeying God's instructions always leads to blessing.
Sometimes He may lead us into places and situations that cause us to doubt and fear. But He says to us: 'Do not be afraid. Be still and know that I am God' His promises can be fulfilled in unexpected places and in unexpected ways. Wait for His time. He will never disappoint us.
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for Your promises to me. I will trust You and I will not fear. I will follow Your leading and guidance in my life and I will not allow fear to overrule me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

As a Christian, I struggle to find connection to God through traditional and contemporary worship music. Though I have tried many times, worship seems false when I'm trying to force it. I lean more towards heavier music, so mushy Chris Tomlin songs don't feel like authentic worship coming from me. When I explain this to people, they always recommend bands like Skillet, but I still don't make a connection there either. So here's a few Christian bands that I highly recommend for those of you who are looking for something a little different. Listening to them and singing their songs really feels like worship to me.
Neal Morse Band - Christian progressive rock, often concept albums
Theocracy - Christian symphonic power metal
Lou Gramm Band (former singer of Foreigner) - Christian rock
Black Fate - Christian power metal
Silent Planet - Christian metalcore

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." ~Matthew 11:28
Lately I have found myself exhausted by the weight of life. Throughout this year I have been around a lot of very negative Christians who preach hate and fear instead of love and grace. While I do believe it is important to talk about the harsh truths of reality in the Christian life, we must also remember that there is hope in the Word of God!
In one of my favorite verses - John 16:33 - Jesus says this: "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
There are so many things we can worry about. Personal things like school, our jobs, our social lives, or our relationships. Outside things such as strife within our churches and communities, or even political tension. I am not here to diminish the importance of those things, because we all know how deeply they can affect our day-to-day lives. The good news is that when those things begin to overwhelm us, we can remember that if God has overcome the world, he can help us overcome anything we are going through.
When you are feeling burdened, there are a few things you can do, including sleep, nourishment, spending time in nature, etc. But the most important thing is to find God. Whether that's through the Bible or through prayer, he is always there with answers.

Introductions
Hi everyone!! I'm new to tumblr and very excited to introduce myself and my blog.
About the blog:
This is a blog about anything and everything Bible related. The reason I chose the name "The Messenger," is because I am not a preacher. I have not gone through seminary, and I haven't been ordained in an official church. However, I do not think that formal training is required to do God's work. I am a person, just like you, and I have a passion for sharing the love of God. I am a messenger of his word, if you will. I am excited to share the things I learn through my personal studies on this blog. Though it is common right now for churches to have political leanings, this blog will not tell you who to vote for, or go into long winded rants about current politics. It is here for you to learn about the word of God, and that is all. I hope to have a positive impact on the lives of my readers, and to help encourage you to seek the Lord throughout your life.
The Bible verse in my bio is Mark 16:15, which says this: He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation." I believe that one of the most important things that any believer can do is to spread the word of God. It is something that God has put on my heart, and I am ready to serve him in the way he asks.
About me:
I am a young adult from Tennessee.
I am an author, currently writing my first fantasy novel. I have published multiple short stories, and I have written and produced four full length comedy stageplays.
I love all kinds of music, including but not limited to: rock, heavy metal, indie, and some pop. I also play guitar and sing.
I enjoy movies, including but not limited to: action, sci-fi, fantasy, historical, and 80's rom-coms.
I am sarcastic, perpetually exhausted, and have an undying love for cake.
