My friend just made up this theory.

Avengers aren't real. None of that is. When Bucky left Steve to go to the war and never came back, we all know how imaginative Steve is. He made everything up. The supersoldier serum that cured him of everything, the love of his life (who was based on one of the girls that Bucky once dated), the loss of Peggy that would make the world sorry for him, a new family full of people just as heroic, the "frenemy" that Tony was to spice it all up. It's all a story to help him cope with everything he lost and couldn't do in the war. It's all not true.
