So here we are, I ignored my own rules, but I’m really happy to have been able to claim your prompt. I hope you like how it turned out! Summary: Arthur caught sight of Merlin when there were maybe fifteen of them left. He faltered, jaw dropping open, and it was pure luck the man charging at him had terrible aim, or he would’ve failed out of the melee right then and there. Pulling himself together, he made quick work of his attacker, before putting some distance between himself and the others to collect himself. And, perhaps, to stare just a little. Merlin was… magnificent. He wielded his sword like an extension of his own body — a lesson most of Arthur’s knights had never truly mastered. His movements were quick and precise, yet fluent, graceful in a way Arthur had never seen before, as he landed disqualifying hits on two, three, four opponents in rapid succession. Since Merlin is trending again, I might as well have this great oppurtunity to compile my list of the top 10 Merlin's Magic Revealed fics! These are in no paticular order because I love them all so much <3 -- All fics are rated Gen, Teen+, or Mature. None contain explict content.

Secret Whistle by thenerdyindividual -- I know I said these are in no paticular order, but this is the very top of my list. The emotions are well done, the characterization is on point, and on top of that it's hilarious. A complete must read for anyone in the fandom.

As a Sea Shell by bathilda bagshot (wellthengameover) -- I cannot even express my love for this fic. The symbolism is wonderfully done and the emotion is really just WOW

With Sufficient Thrust, Pigs Fly Just Fine by inktomi -- wonderfully hilarious, just a really good fic overall

Hide and seek by Lola_Rose_Robins -- Merlin is the feral little boy we all know and love in this fic, 10/10

Merlin Rewritten: God AU by Villain_Complex (Random_Fandom_writer) -- The emotion is really jut RAW in this fic, I love it so much.

It's been a hot minute since I've posted something (because I'm going at my own pace and self care is a nice thing), so this going to be me mainly dipping into a mix of drabbles and fics from last year and early this year. It’s a beautiful sight.

My conclusions: Teen Wolf took over the second half of last year, and I guess deductions, observations or dialogue are what I like to start with for opening lines. It also makes sense that drabbles have short lines, because WCs are precious! Also, my preference is to usually start things ambiguously in the first line before tapping into character mention and PoV right after. Of course, case by case. Huh...interesting!
