It's weird how people paint "daddy issues" and even "mommy issues" as, like, a joke or a failure on part of the person who has those issues, rather than recognizing that daddy and mommy issues stem, for so many people, from abuse. What this all is is just abuse apologia, and nobody seems to either notice or maybe even care.
When somebody with daddy or mommy issues opens up about the "why," I can't ever seem to shake the fact that they tend to have gone through a ton of abuse and bullshit as a child. It's just crazy that other people would look at that and see a joke or a failure of the once-child who was abused.
#abuse#abuse tw#abuse mention tw#child abuse#child abuse tw#mental health#it really goes to show (to me) that people either can't or don't WANT to acknowledge that parents can be the ones to have fucked up#if all the blame is placed on their child/ren then you can maintain the illusion that the parent is always right...#...that parents know what is best and they will always do what is best for their child/ren#it's just weird to be somebody with parental issues and all that gets steamrolled into 'mommy issues' that then become a Big Joke...#...especially because i'm a man (and because people are misogynists who think it's just so funny that women are people)...#...i find that my own issues are expected to be treated as a joke or a punchline or something i must whisper in the dark...#...so that others may have the luxury of pretending to not hear it or to have the luxury of forgetting in the morning...#...and it just sucks because that leaves me to remember and grieve and doing that with the knowledge that my abuse Is A Joke at My Expense#if you wonder why so many abuse victims/survivors become unsavoury: this is why#i'm too bitter about this topic specifically to care about the comfort of people who don't get it and don't WANT TO...#...because it is THEY who are uncomfortable with the very NOTION that abuse happens#if you can't acknowledge that abuse happens WITHOUT downplaying to for your sense of comfort you will NEVER help abuse victims/survivors#you will find that you start prioritizing YOUR sense of comfort over the safety and continued survival of victims/survivors

Tumblr media
Are you looking for the perfect Mumbai hotel? With its bustling markets, vibrant culture, and beautiful beaches, selecting a hotel in this city can be overwhelming. To make your search easier, here are some tips to help you pick the right one for your stay. From choosing the best location to understanding your budget needs, these tips will ensure you enjoy an amazing trip. So let’s get started! Let's dive deeper into each tip. 1. Location When looking for Mumbai hotels, the first thing to consider is where the hotel is situated. Think about your travel plans and what areas you want to explore the most. If you're here for business, look for hotels close to the commercial districts. Pick a hotel near famous attractions to explore the tourist spots. A well-located hotel saves you time and makes it easy to get around. 2. Amenities that Suit You Check out the hotel's amenities. Are you looking for a pool to relax in after a long day of sightseeing? You may need a gym to stick to your fitness routine. Don't forget to see if they provide essentials like free Wi-Fi, breakfast, or a shuttle service. Choose a hotel that matches your preferences and needs. 3. Reviews and Ratings Review guest reviews and ratings before deciding. Look for genuine feedback from fellow travelers. This will give you a sense of the hotel's service, cleanliness, and overall experience. Remember that a single bad review doesn't necessarily mean the hotel is terrible, but it's a red flag if you notice consistent negative feedback. 4. Budget-Friendly Options Mumbai offers various hotels to suit different budgets. While it's tempting to splurge on luxurious accommodations, ensure that the hotel you choose fits within your budget comfortably. You want to avoid ending up stressing over expenses during your trip. Also, if you wish to go for a holiday from Mumbai, Goa would be a great choice with its serene beaches and fun activities. Just book Mumbai to Goa flight tickets, and you are all set. 5. Safety and Security Your safety is paramount. Look for a hotel that has good security measures in place. Check if they have surveillance cameras, secure locks, and a safe in the room. Hotels that prioritize the safety of their guests should be your top choice. 6. Accessibility and Transportation Consider how easy it is to access public transportation from the hotel. Mumbai's traffic can be notorious, so being close to public transit can save you from many headaches. Also, check if the hotel offers airport transfers if you arrive by air. Conclusion Choosing the perfect Mumbai hotel doesn't have to be a daunting task. Following these essential tips, you can find the accommodation which best suits your needs and budget. Check for reviews from previous guests, compare prices and amenities, and pick the right area to get the most out of your stay in Mumbai. Whether you’re looking for a luxury stay or an affordable option, there’s something for everyone in this vibrant Indian city. Unlike wooden beds that can become warped or damaged over time, metal beds remain strong and durable for years to come.
Metal beds are also designed with safety in mind. Many metal bed frames feature rounded edges and smooth surfaces, reducing the risk of injury from sharp corners or rough edges.
Additionally, metal beds often come with safety features such as guardrails or low footboards, which provide extra protection for younger children who are prone to falling out of bed. With these safety features in place, parents can rest easy knowing their child is sleeping in a bed that has been designed to keep them safe.
Aesthetic Appeal
Metal beds are also a popular choice for kids' rooms due to their aesthetic appeal. These bed frames come in a wide variety of styles and designs, making it easy to find the perfect bed to match your child's unique personality and decor preferences. From sleek and modern designs to classic wrought-iron styles, there's a metal bed frame to suit every taste.
Furthermore, metal bed frames can be easily customized with a fresh coat of paint or by adding decorative accents such as colorful bedding, throw pillows, or wall art. With a metal bed as a foundation, you can create a cohesive and stylish look for your child's bedroom that reflects their individuality and sense of style. Whether your child prefers a minimalist, modern look or a more traditional aesthetic, a metal bed can serve as the perfect centerpiece for any design scheme. Overall, metal beds are a great choice for parents who want a durable, safe, and stylish bed for their child's room.
Space-saving
For parents looking to maximize space in their child's room, metal beds are an excellent choice. Metal bed frames typically have a sleek and slim design, which makes them a great space-saving option for smaller rooms. Additionally, many metal bed frames come with built-in storage options such as drawers or shelves, which can be incredibly useful for keeping toys, books, and other items organized and within easy reach.
Another benefit of metal beds in terms of space-saving is their versatility. Metal bunk beds, for instance, are a popular choice for families with multiple children sharing a room. Bunk beds allow for two beds to occupy the same floor space as one, freeing up extra space for other furniture or activities. Some metal bunk beds also have a trundle bed option, which can be pulled out for sleepovers or guests, further maximizing the use of space in the room. Overall, metal beds offer a practical and stylish solution for parents who want to create a functional and comfortable space for their children, even in the smallest of rooms.
Affordability
When it comes to affordability, metal beds are a great choice for parents who want a high-quality bed that won't break the bank. Compared to other materials like wood or leather, metal bed frames are often more affordable while still offering the same level of durability and functionality. Additionally, metal beds are widely available in a range of price points, making it easy for parents to find a bed that fits their budget.
Moreover, metal beds are a great investment for parents because of their longevity. With proper care and maintenance, a metal bed frame can last for many years, making it a cost-effective choice in the long run. When you factor in the durability, safety, and aesthetic benefits of metal beds, it becomes clear why they are such a popular choice for kids' rooms. So, if you're looking for an affordable and practical bed option for your child's room, consider a metal bed frame as your go-to choice.
Versatility
With a range of styles, sizes, and designs available, metal beds can fit into any type of bedroom decor or layout. Whether your child's room is small or spacious, modern or traditional, there is a metal bed that can complement the space and enhance its overall aesthetic appeal.
Metal beds can also be customized to suit a child's changing tastes and preferences over time. With the addition of a few accessories like pillows, bedding, and wall art, a metal bed can be transformed from a classic, elegant design to a funky, contemporary look that perfectly reflects your child's personality. Additionally, metal beds can be painted or refinished to match any decor style, making them a versatile and flexible choice for parents who like to switch up their home decor frequently.
Comfort
When it comes to ensuring a good night's sleep, comfort is key. Thankfully, metal beds are a popular choice for kids' rooms not just for their durability and safety but also for their comfort. Metal bed frames can support a variety of mattress types, including memory foam and latex, making them a great option for kids who need extra support or have specific sleep needs.
Furthermore, metal beds often feature slatted frames, which provide good ventilation and support for mattresses. This helps to regulate temperature and improve sleep quality, ensuring your child gets a good night's rest. Plus, many metal bed frames come with adjustable features, such as head or footrests, which allow your child to find their most comfortable sleeping position.
Thus, the comfort benefits of metal beds make them a great choice for parents who want to ensure their child's sleep is restful and rejuvenating.
These were some reasons why metal beds are a popular choice for kids' rooms. From safety and durability to aesthetic appeal and space-saving features, metal beds offer a versatile and practical solution for parents who want to create a comfortable and functional sleep space for their children. Their affordability and versatility make them a great investment for parents who want a bed that can adapt to their child's changing needs and preferences over time.If you are looking to buy one, make sure that you go with a reliable online metal furniture manufacturer. That way, you will be in safe hands, and so will your kids’ sleep! Happy shopping (sleeping)!

Things And Tips To Consider When Choosing A Nursery School
A Play School can make or break your child's education experience, and the reason for this is that if a child has a strong foundation from the Play School, it will be much easier for the child to adapt to different learning environments, such as Primary Schools and Grade School, both of which require a good understanding of numbers and letters. If you are able to make the proper choice of Play Schools, it could prove to be one of the very best things for your child's education.
If one wants to choose the very best pre nursery school in panchkula for their children, one must be sure to do some research online that will help them while choosing a Nursery School in Jaipur. While this is considered to be the best way of finding out about good Play Schools, another way is to ask the locals of the area about the good Play Schools.
If you want to choose a best pre nursery school in panchkula for your children, there are several tips and tricks that you must consider before settling on a choice, as this will allow you to properly choose a Best Pre Nursery School in Jaipur that will provide the best learning experience for your children. Here are some of the tips and tricks:
Budget
The budget is no doubt one of the most important things to consider before settling on a Play School, as the budget determines whether one will be able to send the children to the Play School in the first place. However, one should unduly worry about the budget, as there are lots of reliable and trustworthy Play Schools that come in a quite affordable range of options.
Know The Approach
Before sending your child to a Play School, you must try your best to find out how the Play School operates, and what are its approaches to the concept on Children's Basic Education. There are quite a lot of different Schools, and almost all of the have different approaches to the concept of children's education.
While some schools tend to focus on the mental development of the child before starting with the tougher parts, others still urge children to discover and see for themselves, as they believe that understanding and seeing for themselves is one of the very best ways to experience something and take away something from it.
Know Your Child
This is one of the points that is sadly ignored by quite a lot of people all over the world, and has resulted in quite a lot of unhappy children around the world. Before you choose a Play School for your child, you must know your child, and his/her attitude towards learning, their personality, what environments they feel comfortable in, along with a great many other factors.
If your child is very creative and imaginative, you should try to find a Play School that will nurture that personality and help it grow, increasing the creativity of the child, and not drag the child down to Earth, forcing him/her to abandon the creativity.
Cleanliness
How clean the Play School is should always be one of the very first things you consider. The reason for this is that uncleanliness can often result in different germs, bacteria and other diseases spreading through the school, and thus being very bad for the health of your child. If the Play School is at all unclean, it should immediately be removed from the list of possible candidates, as you should only consider clean Play Schools.
Safety
This is hardly something that needs to be told to parents, as the safety of their children is something that always weights down heavily on their minds. It is of course one of the biggest points of the list that one should choose a Play School that prioritizes the safety of their children, as a Play School which is lax about Safety is hardly one that should even come near the list of Play Schools you consider. Sending your child to a Play School which has a compromised sense of safety is not something that not any parent would do willingly.

Better Unsaid
a/n okay this has been all over the place!! it was originally going to be a blurb and darker and closer to smutty (so keep your eyes out for that??? lol), but then I made it softer and the concept got away from me and it got soooo much longer than expected lmao and i still dont love where it ended so maybe part 2?? i have the idea i just dont know lol
summary: Reader is a princess and Anakin has been her guard during the most public season for the past two years (not the most logical thing but just go with it lol, it gets explained better in the fic) and after a near death experience the two are conveniently forced into a....
ONE BED TROPE ONE BED TROPE *cough cough* ONE BED TROPE WITH ONE PERSON HAVING TO WAKE UP THE OTHER BC THEYRE HAVING A NIGHTMARE,, :)))))))
  --
His smugness is the only thing about him I can consider ‘ugly’. And because I am so desperate to not have feeling for Anakin, the Jedi who has been assigned to protect me through coronation season (which lasts for most of winter), for the last two coronation seasons, I hold onto my distaste for that side of him. Which is why I suppress my laugh as he waits for my reaction with that confident smile.
“Come on, that was funny.”
Rolling my eyes, I let myself sit on my bed. I can’t tell if he’s actually funny or if my evening has been so boring that his sense of humor has started to become appealing to me due to comparison. In short, the suitor I was forced to spend an entire evening with lacked personality so much I’m starting to find Anakin funny.
“You’re much more entertaining than this evening’s suitor.”
Anakin’s expression shifts slightly, his assured grin dropping slightly. “Another miss?”
“You have no idea.” I relax slightly, taking a moment to be glad that I completed my father’s request and now I can just enjoy the time I have with Anakin. “I know my father’s desperate to make sure my marriage is useful for our people and that he worries about this selection process because he always thought my mother would be here to help, but sometimes I wish he wouldn’t rush it so much. It feels like all he wants me for is to marry me off in exchange of finance or weaponry or something diplomatic.”
“You’re more than that.” His response is so soft I think I might have missed it if I needed it less. I curse myself for feeling so validated by him. His words shouldn’t mean anything to me. After all, he could easily just be saying that because agreeing with my father will just make me more unpleasant to be around.
I smile politely while avoiding his eyes. I keep my hands on either side of me, fighting the urge to fidget. “Thank you, Anakin.” My words sound weak in my own ears, so I’m sure he notices my shift in mood. “I’m tired today, I think I’m going to go to bed early.” Normally, I’d be able to shrug off these kinds of things, but the beginning of Coronation Season makes me irritable. The anniversary of my mother’s death hits me harder each year.
“Y/n.” My name comes out so velvety I can’t find it in myself to interrupt him. “You are more than someone meant to be used as some kind of royal currency, and I mean that as more than just a...friend.”
I let his last word linger. We’ve tried so many titles that never seem to fit right. He’s the chosen one, one of the most powerful Jedi to exist, and the Jedi assigned to protect me each Coronation Season because that’s when my mother was assassinated. He’s my guard, but we’ve spent too many nights laughing together and talking about everything and anything. And I guess now he’s my friend, even though sometimes when he looks at me in a certain way or sits too close to me or reaches for my hand to guide me somewhere I can’t breathe right.
“Anakin, you know I love when you’re here, even though sometimes you drive me insane. And I appreciate your kindness, but your words can’t change the truth. That’s how my father sees me and he’s not exactly wrong. I’m not a son, I haven’t been raised to lead an army or lead much, and--”
“I’ve seen you in meeting after meeting, convention after convention. I’ve witnessed the way you handle real problems and I know how you care about your people. You’d make a great leader, you don’t need a husband to be valuable.”
My chest swells, feelings I never let myself think about mixing with thoughts of Anakin that I’ve spent so long trying to avoid. “That settles it, you’re my favorite person.”
He grins, the look warm enough to melt the odd lump in my throat. I fight down a smile as he steps forward. “And I wasn’t before?”
“I take it back--your head’s big enough without the additional praise.”
Rolling my eyes, I lean back slightly in order to recreate the distance he so easily destroyed. “And I thought you had finally warmed up to me, princess.”
The use of my title makes me skeptical. The last time Anakin used it was when he was trying to ease me so that I’d walk around the palace garden so he had an excuse to do the same. It was beyond late and I was half asleep, but he had os much energy he was desperate and just needed to do one more thing. I felt bad that his schedule revolved so heavily around mine (and when he softens his eyes and says please, I’m left incapable of saying the word ‘no’) so I agreed.
“What do you want?”
Anakin dramatically clutches a hand over his heart. He throws his head back slightly as if he’s just taken a fatal blow. “When did you turn so cynical? I’ve been back for three days and I’m starting to believe you’re a different person now.”
Yeah...he’s definitely getting ready to ask for something that’s more trouble than it’s worth. Then again, everything with him seems to be worth it in some capacity. Even if it’s just that one smile he gets when he’s truly content and doesn’t think anyone’s looking.
“Mhm,” I mumble, still fighting a grin, “so you’re not going to ask me anything?”
His lips part slightly as he exhales. I watch the way his eyes narrow at my victorious expression. “I don’t have anything to ask of you, but I do have a small request. A request so small you won’t have to do anything but say yes.”
Suspicious. Too easy. “You’re unbelievable.”
“You just said I was your favorite person. Remember that.”
I’m too tired for his coyness. I’d rather him make his ridiculous request now so that I can be in bed within the hour. Though I can’t pretend I don’t normally feel better after letting him drag me along on whatever ‘adventure’ he just needed to complete while also not letting me out of his sight. I used to tell him that I wouldn’t tell anyone if I wasn’t under supervision for an hour or two a day, but he dismissed the idea immediately. That’s been the cornerstone of everything.
“What is it?”
He sighs once, tilting his head slightly. The way his eyes soften tells me he’s already won at least half the battle. “They still haven’t caught the attempted--” Anakin pauses, something behind his eyes darkening. I know what he’s remembering. Last night, an assassin had gotten closer than they ever had. I had almost been shot in the garden, Anakin had barely pushed me to the ground in time. A fact he’s been beating himself up for since, especially considering that no one has been able to find my attempted killer yet. “They were so close to you. They were within palace limits and they disappeared like they never existed. Who’s to say they don’t work here and are waiting for the next moment you’re exposed? Who’s to say they aren’t here tonight, waiting for me to retire for the night?”
I didn’t realize how my near death experience had been so personal to him. He, like everyone else, was beyond frantic after it happened. But my father put an end to verbal worry before it could truly begin. He said the best thing we could do was act like everything was fine as the assailant was searched for. Anakin hadn’t been particularly cheery after my father instructed the guards to focus their search on known enemies instead of prioritizing venting the staff closest to me. I comforted him as best as I could, but he didn’t feel like speaking about it and I had to worry about the suitor meeting my father wouldn’t let me cancel.
“Anakin, you’re right next door to me.” I have to fight the urge to reach for him. “I was fine because of you, and I will be fine because of you.”
He sighs once, his expression not easing. “And if the person is silent? The attacker could easily work in the palace, but no one wanted to direct the search inwards.” His words are more strained than I’ve ever heard them be. “I think it’d be smart for me to stay in here. I know you’ve refused having a guard stay in your room or outside your door, but...” Anakin sighs. “Your safety would be more assured.”
Him staying in my room? The only line I’ve ever been allowed to draw, and I’m actually considering letting that go. If he seemed even slightly less sad, I wouldn’t even consider it. It’s not a good idea. I’m already too attached to him. “Anakin--”
“I’d feel more assured.”
Damn him. Stupid, extremely sweet Anakin who makes saying no to him impossible. I stretch my arm forward, letting my hand squeezes his forearm gently. “There’s no reason to not feel assured.” He doesn’t ease, the cloudiness behind his eyes remains stubborn. “You’re still worried.” No reaction, the haze that’s taken him isn’t letting go. “Fine--but tell no one or my father is going to take to posting guards at my door every night.”
...I guess there are worse ways to spend a night. Which is kind of a problem since I’m trying to...enjoy Anakin less. Ugh, I even sound dumb in my head. “I promise, princess.”
Ugh, he’s adorable. “You’re intolerable.” I stand from he foot of my bed and pull back the covers on my bed. He doesn’t reply, something dark still playing for him. I watch him move to face the door. Wait--is he doing what I think he’s doing? “No, you’re not going to stand there all night. You need sleep.” He has the audacity to give me an annoyed look. “I already didn’t want to do this so now you have to listen to my conditions.”
He raises an eyebrow, his lips pressing together oddly. He’s trying to gauge something from my expression, perhaps he’s looking for buttons to press to get his way. I guess I look as stubborn as I feel because instead of arguing he just sits on the floor. What? I watch him cautiously, trying to figure out if this is some weird argument trick.
“What are you doing?”
“What you asked.”
And just like that I’ve put myself in a position that I will no doubt regret terribly the second common sense returns to me. There’s no way to deny that Anakin and I are closer than we probably should be. We’ve felt like friends first since the day we first met. I can’t think of any reason to not offer to let him sleep in my bed except those stupid budding feelings I refuse to label.
It’s not like I actually like him. I can’t--I’m going to be married to some nobleman and he’s prohibited from ever forming attachments. I’m not even sure if we’re allowed to be friends. Having actual feelings for him would be so, so pointless. It would just lead to heartache and the ruining of the one genuine relationship I have. I’m just a tiny bit confused right now because he’s objectively really attractive and he’s always there for me. Always there to make a joke after a particularly rough meeting. Always there to offer me a supportive smile. Always there to humble me when I teeter on acting like my father.
Anyone’s heart would flutter at that, so it doesn’t mean anything. And if it does, I need to squash any budding feelings now before I mess things up. Which is why I should keep him at arm’s length until I get it together. But is that fair to him? And what if doing that is making things worse? What if it’s just reinforcing the idea of having feelings?
This is ridiculous. I’m going to get over this if it kills me. It’s just a bed and it’s only sleeping. I’m meant to be able to lead an entire union and I can’t sleep next to someone and act normal?” “You don’t have to sleep on the floor.”
The second the words leave my mouth I regret it all. What’s wrong with me? Did I seriously think I’d be okay?
I hear his soft exhale, “I’ll be fine. I’ve slept in worse places than on your marble floor.”
His voice sounds so weighted I can’t help but feel bad for not noticing that he’s still bothered. Whether he’s upset about his near miss or the fact that my father didn’t take his advice, I don’t know. But something’s wrong. The easy thing to do would be to just let him sleep it off. The smart thing to do would be to leave him alone until tomorrow.
I think of all the times that I’ve been upset and Anakin had refused to let me go to sleep angry or sad or overwhelmed. “I know, but it’s really not a big deal. It’s not like we don’t know each other. I mean, last Coronation Season you buttoned me into more gowns than my handmaid. And I owe you for saving me from one of the worst suitors I’ve ever had.”
“I’m starting to think we need to develop some kind of signal.”
The tiny bit of lightness that’s returned to his voice makes all of my internal struggle feel worth it. “You always seem to know.”
“That’s because when you’re reaching your limit, that one line appears between your eyebrows.”
I didn’t realize I had such a tell. I try to remember the way that the suitor drawled on and on about how amazing he was and how he couldn’t wait for the day he had a bride to bear his children and plan (tedious) social events. My hand moves to my forehead, trying to feel the crease Anakin mentioned. Can everyone tell when I’m growing tired? Am I that transparent?
Anakin’s slight laugh steals my attention. He’s facing me again, his elbow holding his head up on the foot of my bed. “What are you doing?”
“I don’t--I don’t think i get a crease between my eyebrows when I’m irritated.”
I hear him stand. I don’t realize he’s approaching me until he’s so close I could touch him without even needing. to stretch. “No, when you’re irritated you raise your eyebrows slightly, because that’s when you’re at your most sarcastic.”
“Really?”
The corner of his mouth tugs upwards. “Just like that.” I force myself to keep my expression blank. “When you’re reaching your limit, your eyebrows crease here.” His finger taps the space between my brows so gently I almost don’t realize what he’s doing. “And when you’re trying not to laugh--which is often, because you refuse to admit that I’m funny--you press your lips together in a way that forms a dimple here.” The knuckle of his pointer finger brushes against the bottom of my cheek.
I bite my tongue to fight the warmth spreading across my face. “I didn’t realize i was so transparent.”
“I can’t always tell what you’re thinking.”
“I’ll take it.” Maybe if I was less tired, I’d argue a little more. “You know you’re not that difficult to read either.”
“Really?”
“Yes, I can tell when you’re just being stubborn for the sake of it. I can see it in your eyes and you’re doing it right now.”
His expression harshens slightly before softening. “Y/n--”
“I’m not wrong.”
He sighs once, stepping back. I watch him pace around my bed before taking a seat on the edge of my other side of the bed. “Are you happy now?”
“Happy that I won? Absolutely.”
Anakin halfheartedly glares at me. “Careful, add a crown and a robe that trails down a throne and I’d feel like I was speaking to your father.”
“Careful, another side comment like that and I’ll ‘accidentally’ kick you off the bed in the middle of the night.”
“Not if I kick you off the bed first.”
I trace a thoughtless pattern on the fabric of my bedsheets. “What are you? Twelve?”
“I’m older than you.”
“Barely.” I continue the thoughtless pattern tracing as I fight the sleep from my eyes. “Your comebacks are usually more creative than that.”
He exhales, relaxing slightly as he rests his back against a pillow. “I’m tired, like you claimed to be.” His eyes flutter slightly, a bit of his exhaustion showing. “Go to sleep.”
I should. I’m too old to think I can put off a tomorrow I don’t want by just staying up. This is stupid. I’m too old to think I can put off the anniversary of my mother’s death by going to bed. She had been taken from us on castle grounds, killed by a revolutionist who viewed my mother as a class traitor. I still remember the way she slumped to the ground, her blood staining the snow beneath her. I remember the way the guards were so busy chasing her killer no one thought to keep me away from the body.
“Y/n?”
I scratch the back of my arm in hopes of banishing my thoughts. “Yes?”
“You’re being quiet.”
“You said to go to sleep, that tends to be a quiet thing.”
I can feel his eyes on me. “Since when do you listen to me?” Not trusting myself to actually reply, I only offer him a hum of acknowledgement. “I know you’re not half asleep.”
Folding my hands on my lap, I avoid his gaze. “It’s tomorrow.”
I don’t know why I trust him to understand my vague response, but I do. His silence stretches over us like a thin blanket on a cold night. Maybe he doesn’t understand what I’m implying. I can always correct him tomorrow, when my eyelids are no longer as heavy as my heart. The more seconds that pass in total silence, the more I think that maybe he’s fallen asleep.
I wouldn’t be surprised, Anakin has seemed tired recently, like some additional weight he won’t share with anyone has been thrust onto his shoulders. A small part of me rolls in guilt. I need to be a better friend, just because I’m suddenly a little too aware of him doesn’t mean I can shrug him off and ignore him.
My hand almost flinches away from the feeling of something surprisingly warm touching my pinky. When I realize that it’s just Anakin and that the contact was probably accidental, I force myself to ease. It’s not like we’ve never touched before, I don’t understand why I’m making it weird. Sitting in my bed in the dark doesn’t change anything. His hand turns slightly, pressing into mine a little more assuredly. Biting my tongue, I turn my hand slightly, exposing my palm. And just like that, our fingers intertwine.
“She would have been proud of you.” His voice comes out so low I barely register the words.
The words shouldn’t mean much to me--he never knew my mother and has no way to know what she wanted me to be.--and yet I find comfort in them. I smile, turning my head towards him. “You didn’t even know her.”
He rolls his eyes slightly, relaxing further before squeezing my hand once. “Who wouldn’t be proud of you? You’re kind and smart and decent to be around when you’re not telling me what to do.”
My heart swells in my chest so much I’m surprised it doesn’t burst. Could he be cuter? “Yeah...now I’m sure you’re my favorite person.”
“Now you’re sure?”
The smugness in his voice has me rolling my eyes. “Don’t make me regret saying that.”
“Maybe in the morning,” he says easily, “now go to sleep. There’s nothing worse than escorting you from meeting to meeting while you’re tired.”
“I’m not that bad.” Even in this darkness, I can make out the way he raises an eyebrow. “Shut up--I’m going to sleep, but not because of you.”
He lets out a slight huff. “You’re impossible.”
The desire to respond to his comment is not enough for me to win the fight against the weight of my eyelids. The moment my eyes shut, I feel powerless to anything that isn’t sleep. I let myself fall into a weightless sleep, my only tether being the Anakin’s fingers around mine.
--
A distant noise yanks me from my sleep. I’m too drowsy to do anything but register the sound. I hear another similar...whine? cry? I can’t tell and I’m too asleep to figure it out. I almost fall asleep again, but a third distressed sound keeps me from it. I wipe my eyes lazily with the back of my hand as I try to sit up.
Squinting, I make out a figure on my bed. It takes me a moment to remember Anakin and how I fell asleep. Our hands are still together and no light is peering through my window so it can’t be that long since I fell asleep. Another disgruntled sound carries itself throughout the room. I shift slightly, leaning over Anakin cautiously.
Golden brown curls are beginning to stick to his forehead and his eyebrows are drawn together sharply. He’s having a nightmare.  I shift even further forward before cautiously placing a hand on his shoulder before squeezing him gently.
“Anakin,” I whisper, “it’s not--it’s not real.” His eyebrows draw together even more harshly. I shake him a little more stubbornly. “Anakin, wake up--you’re having a ni--”
My forearm is grabbed so suddenly I barely register it before I feel my back shoved into my mattress. I blink twice. His dark eyes are frantic and the look on his face is far from the gentle, easygoing expression I’m used to. He’s breathing deeply, his chest rising and falling from above me. I swallow a slight panic and something I don’t understand as I try to keep my eyes on his face and my thoughts away from how close he is. Anakin pries his fingers from my forearm one by one until only his palm is touching me.
“Y/n, I--”
“It’s okay.” Honestly, I’m more worried about his uneven breathing than the way he grabbed me. I can’t imagine everything he’s been through or how justified his nightmares are. Anakin moves his hand away from me. I don’t sit up until he’s off of me and sitting with his back against my headboard. “It’s okay--I just--you were having a nightmare and I thought I should wake you.” He doesn’t react. I turn my body further, keeping my back straight. Anakin doesn’t move, and the longer he stays still, the more I feel like I should say something else. “Do you want talk about it? Or do--do you want to talk about something else? Or go to sleep? Or get some water? Or--” The far off look behind his eyes silences me. I scoot forward slightly. “You’re okay, Anakin, I promise.”
His head turns at that, his eyes searching mine for something I don’t understand. “I thought...” He cuts himself off by swallowing once.
I shift a little more, trying to find anything normal in his expression. “Thought what?”
Anakin’s hand is on my arm so quickly I don’t even register his movement. I let his fingers press into my skin. He’s holding onto me like I’m a figment of a dream and he’s beginning to wake up. “I thought I’d failed.” He exhales, the sound heavy. “Failed you and that you’d--I  thought I had lost you.”
A lump rises in my throat, thick and unmoving. Cautiously, I place my hand over the one still gripping my shoulder like a lifeline. “You didn’t. Nothing happened, it was just a dream.”
His gaze falls to the ground before he repeats the last of my words. “Just a dream.” There’s a hollowness to his voice I don’t understand.
I exhale, carefully running my thumb over his knuckles. “Yes.” He doesn’t say anything but his expression hardens again. I let us sit there like that for a long minute. “I promise.”
“You can’t promise things like that.”
I sigh, unsure of where to go from here. “Bad dreams are only bad dreams.” He doesn’t reply. “I think you should try to get some more sleep.”
Anakin is unresponsive. I shift back, but before I can transition from almost being on top of him to just sitting next to him, he pulls on my arm to keep in place. “I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you.”
“Nothing’s going to happen to me.”
“You almost died today, y/n. I was right there and if I had been a second later--”
“But you weren’t.” He doesn’t ease. “You were there and I was fine. Don’t torment yourself over what could have been. You’ll drive yourself crazy.”
“If anything ever happened to y--”
“It’s not going to,” I whisper, ignoring the way his hold on my arm tightens even further, “Especially this time a year when I have a pretty good gau--”
He tilts his head slightly, eyebrows drawing together and a ghost of a smile on his lips. “Pretty good? Really?”
“Someone needs to watch your ego, chosen one.” This time when he tries for a smile, the look has some strength behind it. Relief pools in my stomach. “Now get some sleep, tomorrow’s a busy day and when you’re sleepy you’re beyond irritable.”
Anakin lets me pull away enough to lay down, but he doesn’t follow. Not for a long second. When he does, his movements are impossibly rigid. I watch him out of the corner of my eye as carefully as I can manage.
“Y/n?”
I regret turning my head immediately. I didn’t realize how close he was. It would take no effort from me to make our lips meet. Wait--why am I thinking of that? I’m not allowed to think of stuff like that...especially not about him.
“Yes?”
He lets out a breath before moving his hand. I don’t understand his hesitation until I feel his hand cupping my cheek gently. “What if next time I’m not enough? What if next time I lose you because I’m not strong enough?”
I never thought my death would be such a personal thing to him. Sure, I knew that we had some kind of bond, some kind of friendship, and that my death would bring sadness. But I never imagined I’d matter enough to him that thoughts of my death would be frightening enough to slip into his subconscious and become a thing of nightmares.
“You are enough. Nothing is going to happen to me and if it does it’s not going to be because of you.” Anakin’s lips press together in a way that implies serious uncertainty. His thumb brushes across my cheek so unexpectedly I almost ask him what he’s doing. The intensity behind his eyes is enough to burn me. “Was your dream really that bad?”
He lets out an uncertain breath as his eyebrows draw together. I don’t miss the way his jaw clenches. “It’s more than the dream. I...y/n, princess,” he tacts on, a hint of humor returning to him, “you’re more than a mission to me.”
The admission is so soft I can’t help but smile. “I know, Anakin, we’re--”
“You’re more than a friend to me.” I don’t know if my blood freezes in my veins or if my lungs don’t contract when they should or if my heart literally skips a beat, but I know something in me completely stops at his words. “I--”
“Don’t say it.” I don’t know how I managed to cut him off so sharply and I’m a little disappointed when I do, but it’s the right thing to do. Thought of the code that’s so important to him have clouded half the immense shock and joy swelling in my chest. “What you’re trying to say...I um, I want to say the same.” I try to drop my gaze but he tilts my head up slightly with his hand. “But we shouldn’t, you know that.”
"You want to us to pretend that nothing’s different? You want me to escort you from meetings with one suitor to the next every Coronation Season until you’re married off?”
“No, I’m not saying that. The point is that I’m not saying anything.” His eyebrows draw together in uncertainty. “Isn’t it enough for now, for both of us to just know? If we say it...that could mean bad things for you. And I don’t want to be a bad thing for you.”
“You could never be.”
It’d be so easy to believe him. To believe him and to let him say what I never imagined I’d be able to hear and damn the consequences of tomorrow. “Can we just refrain from verbally saying anything until you’re sure?”
“I’m sure right now. I’ve been sure since the first time we ever walked in the garden together. The night after the first Coronation Ball I escorted you to.”
I remember that night well. The way he hadn’t scolded me for needing air or taking off my uncomfortably high heels to walk in the grass. “If you mean it, you won’t say it yet. I refuse to get in the way of what you’re meant for.”
His thumb runs my cheek entirely, stopping at the corner of my mouth. “Are you capable of not disagreeing with me?”
Rolling my eyes slightly, I place my hand over his. “Probably not.”
Anakin exhales, his playful irritation clear in the sound. “You’re impossible when you’re tired.”
“I am not tired.”
“I can see the sleep in your eyes.”
“I can see it in yours too.”
He pauses, eyebrows drawn together cautiously. “I’ll go to sleep if you do.”
He must be more tired than I thought if he’s compromising with me so quickly. “Deal.”
Neither of us close our eyes for a long second, we just watch each other with wide eyes. It still doesn’t feel like he’s eased, but he’s come back to me so much more than he was earlier. I’ll make sure to check how he’s feeling in the morning. The first morning after we’ve...I don’t know.
I’m trying really hard not to get excited because anything that’s been not said could be taken back so easily. That’s the point--but it’s hard not to let my heart get ahead of my rationality. I’ll just take the good for what it is for now and tomorrow we can figure out the rest. Even though he’s not allowed to form attachments and my father really wants to marry me off to foreign royalty.
Tomorrow. This can begin to be solved tomorrow. My eyes shut and I let myself roll fully onto my back. The second I’m comfortably settled, I feel Anakin shift against the bed. I’m too tired to open my eyes until I feel a weight placed against my chest.
I open my eyes on instinct, less surprised than I should be when I see Anakin’s head resting against my chest. Before I can speak, I feel his arm rest against my side. “Anakin,” I breathe, my hand moving to smooth his hair out of his face the way I’ve wanted to for so long. “What did we just talk about?”
“You said not to say anything,” he mumbles comfortably, “I’m not saying anything.” ...It is kind of the ideal compromise. Especially since I’m too tired to find reason and he feels so warm. “I can feel you overthinking. Go back to smoothing my hair before I have to rise and stand at your door so that your handmaid comes to wake you. Something tells me she’d be glad for the excuse to get rid of me.”
That might be the most dramatic thing I’ve ever heard him say. Selma is the most patient woman in the palace. “Selma would never report anything involving me, I can’t believe you don’t like her. She’s the sweetest woman I’ve ever met.”
“She’s the one that doesn’t like me,” he says, “she always watches me like she’s trying to figure out if I’m planning on stealing you away.”
Too tired to fight my smile, I go back to smoothing his hair out with my fingers. After a moment, he lets out an exhale that relaxes his entire body. “Goodnight, princess.”
“Goodnight.” The word is barely a mumble as I feel sleep tug against me for the second time tonight.
It’s strange, but my excitement doesn’t diminish my tiredness, it just makes the prospect of rest feel so much fuller. Safer. Because there’s so much to sort out and grieve but it’s okay, because we have the time and everything feels okay because Anakin is here, right beneath my fingertips.

I just went through you r blong and it's?? So amazing??? Like omg I wass literally screaming when I read all that glorious stuff, you're doing god's work here love💕 but I would like to know what Kikyo, Illumi, Milluki, Kurapika, Pakunoda, Chrollo and Silva + Shigaraki, Overhaul, Monoma, Chronostasis, Setsuno, Tamaki, Endeavor, Shinsou and Aizawa do for winter and/or Christmas/other religious holidays activities with their darling? Bc I'm ready to sell my vital organs for it ;_;
Thanks you <3
Also, Christmas wit da bois is an amazing idea. (I’ll be doing normal Winter stuff and some religious holidays.)
Kikyo/Illumi/Milluki/Silva:
Since they are a family, I will combine them (and to make this large post a bit shorter and easier haha).
Anyway, they celebrate Christmas more for the gifts and to spoil their kids. You better expect a large, family gathering for the entire two weeks of Christmas and New Years. It doesn’t really matter, you will be forced to celebrate Christmas with them. I mean you are part of the family.
Think of it as a resort holiday, you are treated like a queen/king and anything you want will go. Well, other than freedom of course. Still, you receive many gifts that are beyond your price tag, and the gifts you give them are more decorative to be honest. You don’t have as much money to spend as them, so you decided to make all of your gifts because you hoped the thought would be enough. They might not look the best, but each Zoldyck will treasure it to the end of their days.
They will try to incorporate any traditions as long as they are family oriented, they aren’t monsters. And even if you have other holidays you celebrate, you will still celebrate Christmas with them. With that being said, they will be kind enough to celebrate your own holidays, it will be a smaller scaled thing though.
Kurapika:
He finds it to be a bonding moment, and he doesn’t get enough of those for obvious reasons. He will go above and beyond to please you, simply to get back on your good side a bit.
Cocoa, apple cider, blankets, decorations, traditions, ANYTHING is on. He wants you to relax and feel at home around him. Despite his extremely controlling attitude, he wants you to love him. Sadly he prioritizes your absolute safety over your mental health.
But it’s sweet for the most part, he actually seems to act normal, he doesn’t seem as if he is going to snap and try to force you into anything. But yes, he might try to get things to be hot and heavy, you being relaxed is too perfect of an oppertunity to waste. He still has a clan to rebuild.
Pakunoda:
I wrote chrollo’s before Paku’s, so it’s kinda the same. She will be more active in putting things together and getting into the festivities. She will get really close, using the excuse that she’s cold just to cuddle with you.
Christmas sex? Yeah, probably. She’ll take care of everything, you could sit back and watch her do everything. But it’s more fun together right?
Everyone is invited, so expect the rest of the Troupe and their darlings!
Chrollo:
He doesn’t mind, he’s pretty accommodating too! He’s honestly the most okay with anything. I would think the people of Meteor City look forward to Christmas, there isn’t a lot but people who really care for one another take the time to chill with each other.
With you around, they have a really big excuse to go all out! Chrollo will sit back and relax, having you and the rest of the Troupe decorate and get presents. He will help of course if you ask, but he will mostly be on the side lines.
Anything else is a-okay too! He doesn’t care as long as you are happy, and the Troupe can join in the festivities.
Shigiraki:
Christmas is something he does know! But he knows nothing of any other holiday to be honest. All for One gave him a few gifts in his life time, not much but enough for Shigiraki to develope the concept of Christmas. I mean when he was a kid he loved Christmas with his family. It was one of the happiest times back then.
So he genuinely had a love hate relationship with the holiday. You will ah e to take initiative on this one. Giving a gift, starting decorations, making hot coco or something. Anything to get the ball rolling and he would begrudgingly comply.
Secretly, he is excited to join the holiday festivities with you. Specifically with you, anyone else and they would be dust. He is okay with learning new holiday traditions too, like why do you guys light candles for a holiday? Well oh tell him with a smile and help him light one on fire. He almost burns the whole hideout down. You’ll have to watch him.
Endeavor:
He celebrates Christmas, but he’s more of a grinch. He celebrates it with his kids and wife, just because it’s something families do. Though throughout his life he never found it more than a obligation.
When you come along, he’s on the path of becoming a better person, so he will definantly try harder. One Christmas with all the fun stuff with you, and another one for his family. He kinda lets you take the lead, of course if you really want something you will have to do some sexual trades. Can’t let you get too comfortable right?
Moreover, if you are on good terms with his immediate family, you could probably add more cheer to the holiday. Also if you celebrate another holiday then don’t worry, he’ll accommodate to be nicer.
Overhaul:
Who cares about winter, it’s cold and you are more likely to get sick because of it. Your immune system will be more likely to be compromised so you better expect him to helicopter a bit more.
Warm teas, heavy blankets, vitamins, and supplaments are to be expected. Nothing sugary either, maybe a bit of medical honey in your tea but not much.
Christmas isn’t something he celebrates, but he will make a slight exception if you are good. If you act like a suck up, he’ll be nice and maybe get you Christmas gift. Maybe even a small Christmas tree for moral. I wouldn’t expect too much though.
Chronostasis:
He like winter, he doesn’t know why exactly, but he does. I can easily see him getting into the activities of December. Like the ballets and Christmas lights and other festive things that make you leave your house. Headcannon that he might be a decent ice skater too. He simply enjoys the activities more than the actual holidays.
He won’t mind helping decorate or getting gifts or any other holiday traditions. Actually, if they are fun traditions without much competitive fire, he’ll probably want to do them more.
Although I don’t see him liking the warm ness of cuddling and all that, I can see him enjoying the slight chill in the air. Supportive of any holiday you celebrate, might even try to make more traditions too.
Monoma:
He likes Christmas and the holidays, it’s the perfect time to get the best gifts for his little darling. Oddly enough he loves getting small gifts for you, it makes him feel prideful knowing you like what he got you, so he loves Christmas is general.
As for winter, he likes it! It’s an excuse to get you under the covers and warm you up. That can be taken both ways if ya’ know what I’m saying.
I think he would prefer warm drinks like tea and apple cider over hot chocolate, but hell totally make some for you. Any decorations are also game, just expect some teasing for the childish stuffed animal you keep on the fireplace mantle.
Setstuno:
He is kinda clueless in the sense he just doesn’t know where to start. Like he knows about the basics of holiday traditions, but he doesn’t know if you do those traditions. He’ll be pretty laid back when you get excited about it though. This clingy man will simply sit back and watch the entire time.
Winter isn’t his favorite, but he doesn’t mind being able to hold you close so you won’t be cold. He is very possessive considering what happened to his last lover. He will be perfectly fine with helping with easy things, but when it comes to the more taxing things, he’ll let you take the reins.
He’ll try to buy you a present he thinks you’ll like, but he won’t get too fancy. After all he really just wants to hold you close and soak in your warmth.
Tamaki:
Nervous boy feels most comfortable in winter, at least in his home where he has you to cuddle, bake, and hold. He loves the warmth found in a home, and he will encourage any baking you want to do. It just leaves him with a warm feeling inside when he can bake cookies and brownies with you by his side.
Although he’s all hands on deck when the holidays come along, he’s still nervous about it. He’ll ask questions and make sure everything works how it’s supposed to because he doesn’t want to mess something up for you. Might accidentally go a bit overboard with gifts or other traditional activities.
He just wants to please you though, a real sweetheart when it comes down to it.
Shinsou:
I think Shinsou likes winter because it means spring is on its way. I can see him being a spring loving boy because of all the kittens and flowers blooming. Winter is good though, might be his second favorite season. He loves the blankets and the hot cocoa and the baked goods and the holiday cheer. Especially the gift giving, he likes seeing you happy when he gives you a gift.
He probably won’t be too enthusiastic about any holiday stuff, but he will sure support it and help with anything you need. Need a Christiana’s tree because you can’t have a Christmas without it? You better bet he’ll get it right away.
He loves watching you get excited about the holidays, everything in the house just seems a bit more cheerful because of you. He will wrap you in blankets and jackets and hold you closely in his arms. You also better bet anything you do he will be there to help you. He might not be the most into the holidays, but he surely loves getting ready for the holidays with you.
Aizawa:
Winter is not his favorite season, but I’d say it’s probably second place. He doesn’t do too much, as he simply doesn’t want to put in that much effort in something so minuscule. But, he defiantly encourages his Darling if they want to decorate or bake or something wintery.
Christmas also isn’t really a big thing for him, as he doesn’t usually buy presents for other people. Of course, his Darling is another story. Unlike most people, he buys a few presents for you because you are his special kitten.
He will also help decorate or bake small things if you want to. Hot chocolate is a must, he has a special, bitter hot chocolate just for himself that he loves. You have your sweet beverage and he has his bitter one. Just don’t forget the marshmallows.
Warm cuddles is a blessing to him. When it’s cold he grabs blankets and wraps you up like a baby is a swadle just to hold you close to him. As for other holidays, he will respect them and whatever stuff come with them. Like Hanukkah and the candles for each night. Just don’t expect anything too crazy, he just wants a comfortable holiday evening with you.
Happy Holidays sweethearts!!! I hope you have an amazing whatever you celebrate and if you celebrate nothing, than have a wonderful day!

I think Haru toes the line between wanting to be ordinary and not wanting to be. More often times he wants to be, but I think after spending so many years being exposed to the “swim prodigy ideology” he has times where he wants to be more than that because people think he has the potential to be. I know the fandom was split on his decision to be pro, but I also think that he wanted to see if it was something he could do. To see if he was capable of the potential that others said he had. If it ended up not being the path for him then he could have at least said he tried. And I think that’s where he is right now in the current storyline. If he quits swimming like many hope then he could say he tried but it wasn’t for him and he wouldn’t lay awake at night wondering what if. As for Makoto, I don’t think the fandom outside of makoharu shippers give him enough credit. I don’t think he cares for a legacy at all, neither his or Haru’s. He could honestly care less about whatever career or dream Haru chooses to pursue and is more concerned about how that dream or career affects Haru. I’ve seen people say even Makoto expected Haru to go into pro swimming, but I don’t think that stemmed from wanting Haru to swim so much as Haru feeling like pro swimming was inevitable. Makoto’s own career aspirations to me stem from his passion for swimming and wanting to help and support others. Nothing about his personal goals feel like an obligation. Rin seems to toe the line between commitment and obligation that I think stems from the grief of losing his father early on. I think he’s always enjoyed swimming and continued it because he was good and as a connection to his father, but I think finding out about his dream created a sense of obligation for him to do what his father couldn’t. I think all in all Rin can move in between both depending on the day or time in his life, Makoto is more towards his own commitment, and Haru is mostly obligation that he convinced himself is something that he wants to see through.
Thank you for sharing! Getting to think about commitment, obligations, and the value of legacy with these three is fascinating <3 I’ll stick my thoughts under the “read more” cut because this’ll probably get long lol
I love the way you answered this question, because my initial thoughts/conclusions were different, but your points make so much sense! I think you’re right that none of them fall into a perfect dichotomy of being driven solely by commitment or obligation, but certain characters do prioritize one over the other. It’s interesting how at first glance, Haru seems like a character driven by his own whims, only really committing or putting effort into things he cares about, rather than bending to the whims of others. But, just like his desire to become “ordinary” and what exactly that means to him, things change over time. Now that this checkpoint or deadline of turning 20 and becoming “ordinary” is actually this tangible, impending date (rather than some faraway idea), it’s shifted from a placeholder for his childhood dreams of autonomy/freedom to a scary inevitably. He used to find safety and comfort in the idea of melting into the background and feeling included in his community (or at the very least less ostracized/othered), but now he has to wonder if fading is actually something he still wants. I agree with you that with where Haru is in the story right now (during the FS timeline, right before it, whichever), his drive is tied to a sense of obligation way more than it has been in the past. Starting down the professional path meant Haru had to reevaluate his feelings about being a “hero” or “prodigy” and decide how he was going to navigate those expectations. That’s one of the hard parts about being a young adult, navigating the confusing liminality of shifting expectations. My perception of Haru’s current struggles with adjusting to the pro world and deciding on what he should do next are tied to my own experiences, so I can see him being fearful of even entertaining the idea of not sticking with this path. Now that he’s not pushing back against the expectations of others as hard as he used to (avoiding competitions or swimming other strokes or thinking about his future, all of that jazz in the past), he’s internalized those expectations for himself in a way that makes him want to get this all right on the first try. A lot of my focus when thinking about Haru’s current state is that stubborn insistence on making this path work even if it hurts (a secret perfectionist, but that’s a conversation for a different post), but if everything did reach a head where Haru gave up the pro path and moved onto something else, some healing/reflection over time could get him to draw the same conclusion that you did, that at least he gave it his best shot.
When it comes to Makoto and his view on legacy, I absolutely agree that he approaches it in a way that centers a person’s own happiness, which is interesting when it comes to his character. It’s not an exact opposite, but as we see Haru’s motivations move from commitment/passion to obligation, Makoto’s motivations evolve over time from this overwhelming sense of duty to exploring his own dreams more in-depth. Makoto takes his roles seriously, whether that’s being a big brother, team captain, doting best friend, or more. He’s perceptive of his environment and eager to please, to the point where his happiness is tied to being that caring person that others can lean on. However, we can see in the show how constantly bending to those expectations guided his choices in a way that took a toll on him and his relationships — many of the notable rifts between Haru and Makoto (I’m thinking about Starting Days and Eternal Summer) stemmed from Makoto quietly trying to abide by the perceived expectations that came with growing up while also trying not to worry his friends. Some of the best Makoto moments (which are probably some of the ones that could be appreciated more) are when he is honest about his feelings and let’s himself just “be Makoto” and dream. Whenever Makoto talks about wanting to swim with his friends, swimming with Haru, teaching kids to swim, and becoming a pro trainer, it hits so hard because as much as those desires are based in servitude, it stems from a place of genuine passion. These aren’t goals forced onto him, but things that he wants and that he’s willing to work for. There are a lot of factors that went into this shift in Makoto’s motivations over time, but knowing that a big part of it comes from Haru’s perception/support of Makoto makes me both curious and excited to see how their relationship will impact Haru’s own growth in FS/FS2. Haru was one of the people who helped young Makoto come to terms with trusting in his own desires beyond whatever he thought others “expected” from him, and I wonder what parallels may arise now that Haru could use some similar advice and support. When Makoto thinks of his own legacy, he doesn’t care about making a name for himself as much as living in-the-moment and helping/inspiring some people along the way. When it comes to his friends and their legacies, it’s centered in a genuine hope that they find something that makes them content, and he’s not as particular on the details (i.e. being proud of his friends taking on the pro-circuit mainly because he believes those goals are tied to his friends’ happiness).
Pinpointing my thoughts on Rin has been harder because those lines between commitment and obligation are a bit more blurry. Primarily, we know that Rin abides by big expectations, but they tend to be more self-imposed and based in his own passions. One of the differences between him and Haru (and one of the reasons they end up butting heads) is because Rin is a visionary who actively seeks out challenges to elevate him to his long-term goals (going to Australia being a big example of this). Haru doesn’t clamor for challenge or responsibility, but often finds it laying in his lap when the things he puts effort into are the things he is quick to pick up on and start to master (being good at swimming led to people asking him to swim competitively, being good at drawing/carving led to the request for him to join art club, etc etc). Rin gets frustrated with Haru because he’s had to visibly train and hustle to get to his skill level, whereas Haru didn’t seem to have that same drive. He was good, and surely he would train, but for a long time (not until it came to prioritizing his team or entering college, really) Haru wasn’t big on capitalizing off of his skills and focusing on times/improvement. Haru was driven away from all that because of the expectations pushed in his direction to secure a legacy and not “waste his talents,” which is something Rin didn’t (and maybe still fully doesn’t) understand. It’s a fight between someone who aims to be the best versus someone who has just been expected to be the best. Rin values legacy and has centered so much of his life on achieving a dream that ensures a legacy, and as much as it is based in a passion for swimming, we have to wonder how much of Rin’s dream comes from a complicated sense of obligation stemming from his grief. I talked more about this in a past post speculating how Rin’s perception of his father shaped his dream, but I agree with you that part of Rin’s loyalty to his own dream comes from it being a reflection of some of the hopes and dreams Toraichi had while he was still alive. Both Rin and Haru swim for themselves and to honor the bonds/memories they’ve made with teammates over the years, but I think being on the pro circuit will bring up that key question of “why do you swim; what do you swim for” in a way that makes them consider who they’re trying to make proud, and who they don’t want to let down.

I see you that you’re famous in the levihan fandom, but can I request that you start a post asking why people ship Levihan so that we could reblog it and and start telling our stories to why we fell in this hellhole too?
i’m sorry? *spit take* famous? anon, pls follow the other levihan blogs with owners who have real talent and excuse my mediocrity. im out here just tryna have a good time lmao
hm well maybe i can give you a top 5 reasons why i personally like shipping levihan? In no particular order:
1. I really enjoy their companionship and how comfortable they are being themselves with each other - when i watch/read aot, it feels like levi is very comfortable and looser around hange compared to when he’s around other characters.
2. I love friendships/bonds that transcend words - i find it significant that they have scenes where they speak with simple looks at each other, or the “telepathy” ordeal. kinda like when you’re out in public and something happens and u look at your best friend and u already know whats on their mind
3. I don’t believe in “opposites attract”, but i do like relationships that complement each other - i think they bring out the best in each other. i think of the scene where levi goes along with her faking that she’s not upset when she kicks the table after being frustrated with sannes. Like levi knows that hange is putting up a front, and he uses his quiet demeanor and expression as if nothing happened to affirm her in that situation. Or when Hange just talks his ear off but he seems just content listening. basically like the introvert that keeps the extrovert in check, and vice versa. Like they’re just good/healthy people for each other?
4. I value humor over a lot of other qualities in a relationship because taking yourself/each other too seriously can severely limit your happiness/well-being - i like that they tease each other a lot, and are just so casual around each other. in a world that’s so serious and sad, they find a way to keep it light with each other. and other than sasha and connie, and occasionally the rivalry between jean/eren, there isnt much room in the show for humor. so i find it significant that the two of them are depicted in this way.
5. Based on a recent convo i had with some friends, i think that something really important in a relationship is that you are you, and you choose your partner because you care about them. None of this “you’re my other half” or “you complete me” tropes
- i like that in the end, they are independent people who simply care for each other. they have a strong sense of duty to humanity and the people they care about, and they respect that in each other. I think of Levi prioritizing armin/moblit getting hange to safety after she almost died in the crystal cave. it’s like he knows that she would never approve of them bailing on the mission if she was injured, so he respects that and simply makes sure she’s safe, and carries out the mission and taking care of the 104th kids too. Or in ch 126 hange has a moment where she breaks their light/humor-filled relationship and asks him to live with her in the forest, but levi respects hange too much to let her give in to that, because he knows that “she cant stay out of the action”, and he prioritizes hange being who she is before anything else. Or when levi lets hange go in ch 132, there’s no begging to stay. he doesnt question hange’s decision, because he cares more that she is who she is all the way to the end. i think “you complete me” can be selfish in that u want your partner for your happiness only, whereas i dont see room for that in levihan
thanks for le question, anon

Relationship Goals: Ch 15
Flows of tears being wiped away by the fingertips of love- dreamless night skies full of stars - a heavy heart washed clean by the rain - hot sweat and cold droplets of water-  a simple “good night” and a “good morning” - that all too well known scent - the excruciating pain of yet another “goodbye”- a blood drenched jacket that’s long lost its owner’s warmth...Name of Faith
Being the solidifying chapter of my Gavin stanness, chapter 15 has a very special place in my heart. On the other hand, the whole chapter is the very embodiment of “relationship goals”, ensuring that in the MLQC universe MC and Gavin’s relationship is the most harmonious, mature and loving one. The chapter is about an hour-ish long so you could guess how long this analysis will take to read but it surely will be much less than it took me writing it, I promise ;)
At the end of chapter 14 MC had to say goodbye to Kiro without knowing if he would survive the fight against tens of BS men and carry the burden of being the key individual who can put an end to the out of control EVOL outrage. She was heartbroken about Lucien’s betrayal and was worried as hell about Victor’s whereabouts. She was still struggling under the overbearing weight of having to play the role of the “Queen” all the while being one of the last remaining people who still bear to think about the whole TV- tower incident. She’s found herself doubting the meaning of her existence and couldn’t help but feel as though she wouldn’t belong there. At the beginning of Ch 15  we find an MC that hit the rock bottom and is therefore deeply depressed. This is the first time she’s shown such a distressed psyché. So this is how the chapter starts...MC wakes up in her room after being hospitalized for a while, lost in thoughts and looking for reassurance in the gingko leaf bracelet on her wrist.
To have and to hold...
While she is buried in negative thoughts Gavin shows up at her place to give her the good news that there are no more signs of EVOL fluctuations and that STF’s investigation ends as of that day. This results in a real smile blossoming on MC’s face and then her concern switches to Gavin’s well-being. This first dialogue between them is already an embodiment of the foundation of their relationship. Gavin and MC’s main concern is always the well-being of the other. Sure, Gavin and MC always put others before themselves so they both have an altruistic character, however if protecting any other person would mean their s/o getting hurt, then they prioritize each other. We get to see what it means in the second half of the chapter. MC is worried about Gavin’s injuries, Gavin is worried about MC’s emotional state, MC is worried that she makes Gavin worry about her, Gavin is worried that MC worries about him worrying about her, thus keeping her real thoughts inside- not- opening up about them to him. That’s a vicious cycle which needs to be broken and that is exactly what our best boi does by reassuring her that she doesn’t need to put up a front and that she could tell him whatever is eating at her...anytime at all. That guy is already 3 steps ahead of her when it comes to worrying so he pulls her out of her self-agonizing overthinking bubble with those simple words which work like a charm. MC feels as though her heart was slowly lifted up by two hands out of a ravine. So she finally tears down the walls surrounding her agony and lets her tears flow and Gavin wipe them away and he brings the sunshine back into her heart.
Ever since her father’s passing MC didn’t much have anyone to open up to about her most bothering concerns or a shoulder to cry on. Gavin sees this crystal clear and encourages her to tell him about it all, cry it all out and also manages to lift her spirits up. He knows instinctively what she needs at that moment. She is broken, she is lost and she is stripped of her self-worth. Gavin can relate to this state all too well, because he too has been there when his mother died. He knows that she doesn’t need any encouraging talks or sweets or a scientific explanation to her feelings. At that moment, all she needs is warmth and a safe space to process what she is going through thoroughly. Which is why Gavin simply offers her to share what’s eating at her with him and cry all she wants. He doesn’t do anything beyond that. He NEVER EVER PUSHES HER TO DO ANYTHING! He just stays by her side in silence, giving her space...a warm space and the rest unravels from itself.  GOAL #1 Find someone who can feel your troubles, address them with care and share your burden with you. Someone who gives you a safe space to feel down without feeling ashamed of yourself. Someone who makes what’s yours theirs.
For better, for worse...
Gavin is aware of the fact that his words can give her comfort, but he also knows that she hasn’t told him the whole story yet. She needs to feel self-worthy again and go back to her true, kind and brave self. So he arranges a Ferris wheel ride in the middle of the night to show her the bright side that she fails to see at the moment. If MC had been asleep then he would’ve just tried another night but much to his luck she was standing on her balcony, lost in her thoughts, gazing at the bracelet he gave her and confiding in it. So he sweeps her off her feet once again and takes her to the construction site. He shows her from the cabin the world she succeeded in saving and that the world which is still turning thanks to her. She is the savior and not the burden and most certainly not a burden to Gavin. Neither with her negative feelings nor with her presence. She belongs there where she is and Gavin appreciates her existence. Because she didn’t only save the world but also him, many times, she caught him while he was falling. However, MC believes that its always been Gavin who was always there to catch her from falling. Their feelings and thoughts are again mirroring each other. Both of them are invested equally in their journey together, both have saved the other. Hearing this, MC finally opens up about her true feelings and lets the tears flow, and those tears are again wiped away by Gavin. When the wheel reaches its zenith, MC and Gavin are in a tight embrace and MC is finally almost back to her usual self: “With it, he took all my tears, all the unsaid words, all my worries and regrets. At that moment, it felt like the walls around my heart had fallen, letting in countless rays of sun. All the unease, suffering, doubt, pain and hesitation just evaporated”. Once they get off the wheel and they run/fly hand in hand under the summer rain, MC feels like Gavin has always been by her side all over the past years and her heart’s worry and gloom is washed away by the rain. This is a very crucial thing for their relationship, because they were separated for six whole years and yet now MC feels like he were always by her side, watching her from afar, accompanying her in her journey.
On a side note, Ferris wheel and the gingko bracelet have become the main symbols of their relationship. The bracelet represents their bond with each other regardless of the distance separating them and I am certain that the bracelet doesn't have any tracker on it to be honest but it helps MC to cool down when feeling upset or sad by reminding her of Gavin, her precious moments with him, his love for her, and that he will always be there for her. The Ferris wheel on the other hand is their journey. Each time they ride the Ferris wheel together their spirits are lifted up alongside with the cabin. Once it reaches its zenith they consummate their love for each other once again, no matter if it's on a date with a kiss or in CH 15 when MC tells Gavin her true feelings and Gavin addresses them directly resulting of them reciprocating their importance for each other. GOAL #2: A relationship is much like a Ferris Wheel. It goes up, it goes down, then goes up again. It's not always a bed of roses, there are many thorns during the ride. The important thing is to go through both phases hand in hand.
This whole episode names Gavin as the source of MC’s sense of safety, courage and faith. MC feels herself the safest and most serene around him. Their night together at MC’s home is a strong evidence to this. Up to CH 15 and in the following episodes, MC has constant nightmares almost every night.  But when she sees the faint ray of light from the crack of her bedroom door, she finally enjoys a night’s sleep without nightmares or worries. Knowing that Gavin is on the other side of her door gives her the deepest sense of peace. This happens again in CH 26 btw. and I think the original idea was for them to sleep in the same bed in CH 15 but then abandoned due to obvious reasons... As far as I know Gavin is the only LI who sleeps in MC’s apartment so it shows the level of trust she has towards him. No matter what’s happening during the dates, in the mean story MC is not canonically that close with any of the guys, so it truly shows how safe she feels around Gavin, knowing that he wouldn’t overstep his boundaries. And she couldn’t be more correct, since Gavin leaves before she wakes up, making sure that none of them feel awkward in the morning and leaving the place as he found it, but not before leaving a note which gives her a reassurance that he is going to send somebody to keep an eye on her and ends with a simple “good morning”. Gavin is a very considerate guy, who doesn’t miss any hint thrown at him. After hearing MC not being able to sleep without wishing him good night, he realizes how important this simple wish is for her. So he makes sure to wish her a good morning, whether he is there to say it face to face or not. GOAL #3: Be with someone, with whom you can fell safe and be yourself around them. Someone whose presence chases your fears and nightmares away . Someone who knows what your values are and respects them.
In sickness and in health...
Not long after having a heart to heart conversation, MC and Gavin find themselves in a dispute over Perry. MC wants to stay by Perry’s side with the hopes of being able to help him but also come closer to the truth about her father. Gavin is not happy with the idea since he’s lost his EVOL and is dubious about Leto’s intentions so if any danger were to strike, he might not be able to protect MC. Despite this he agrees with MC’s wish in terms of her not putting herself in danger and that he would stay by her side. The second time the topic comes up, Gavin outright forbids her to get involved with Perry and MC in return, for the first time ever, tells him that she is going to do otherwise. This dispute arises because Gavin doesn’t tell her full story, that he’s lost his EVOL and that the STF is executing the Evolvers. MC on the other hand fails to see the situation from Gavin’s perspective or to trust him when he is so strict about keeping out of the whole ordeal. But right before they temporarily part ways she finds the courage to ask him about his worries and troubles, since she too can feel his distress, much like Gavin did hers at the beginning of the episode and offers to share his burden with him and that’s the thing. MC isn’t upset that Gavin doesn’t want her to see Perry anymore but that Gavin isn’t open with her and that he is still keeping his problems to himself. MC was hoping that he would trust her to face the truth and take on everything with him. That’s what actually hurts her the most. And Gavin is lost in this unexpected argument since he’d never had a situation like this with MC so he is torn between telling her the truth or leaving it be. Unfortunately he decides to just leave their dispute at that and leaves, not willing to have a fight with her. So they give each other the good old silence therapy for days and only after Perry reminded MC of Gavin’s good-will that she finally sends him an SMS (but only at second try, she wouldn’t send the first SMS in which she tells him that she is worried about him). Gavin is not  better either, since he is already at the hospital to check on her from afar, but is not ready to face her yet. Its a typical “earlier in the relationship dispute” so much so that MC even literally sleeps with her phone while waiting for Gavin’s text/ call/ any response at all. Even I am shocked by his level of stubbornness at this point.  The next day MC receives the bad news about Perry and leaves the hospital, letting herself get soaked in the rain. This time around without Gavin by her side, with completely different feelings, thinking that the rain can’t wash everything away. This is a pivotal realization on MC’s end, because at that very moment she realizes that Gavin was the reason of her being able to overcome her worries and face her troubles with faith and courage. Luckily for her, right when she was thinking of him, she senses his scent behind her aaaand cue “Rosy Mirror”...
Its such a lovely moment for the maturity of their relationship, despite them still getting to know each other and being the youngsters they are. So MC apologizes to him (but only going through the reasons why in her head so Gavin only hears that she is sorry) and then Gavin finally opens up, since he has realized that was the mistake on his part, not telling her about his true worries. So without further ado he tells her about his insecurities about the possibility of not being able to protect her since their downfall from the TV tower, about him losing his Evol, about following her for a while from behind without knowing what to do. And that’s pretty much all it takes for them to overcome their dispute, since it was a relatively small dispute and so MC again fells warm and dry inside, not caring about the rain. GOAL #4 There are disputes in all relationships. What’s important during those disputes is not to hurt each other’s feelings irreparably and communicate in honesty. It’s about trusting in each other’s good intentions and resolving the problem in hand with care and understanding.
Till death do us part...
Our pair makes up and are ready for the next move but there are no happy endings in the MLQC universe...nö nö nö. Of course drama ensues as MC and Gavin find out that Perry has been kidnapped while MC’s precognitions start getting worse. But remember folks, Gav-babe is back so he calms her that as long as her precognitions are about the future, they can still change the course of events and that He trusts in her, so she also should put her trust in him too.  “That was his absolute faith in me, and his absolute reassurance for me”. We could actually roll the credits here without going further with the heart wrenching end of this chapter.
Not long after though MC and Gavin has to face the worst of the worst...They have to witness Perry getting shot in the chest and leave him in his state, only to be greeted by the STF aiming at them by the exit of the warehouse, leading Gavin to resign from the STF. While on the run from the STF/NW, Gavin realizes that his Evol becomes extremely weak, so much so that he cannot even raise a barrier to hold back the bullets, which then results in MC getting shot on the back while trying to protect him. Not only MC’s precognition is coming true, but also Gavin is at his limit, both physically and mentally. So he is left with no choice, but to sacrifice himself and once again get separated from MC. For Gavin is Ch 15 is the worst-case scenario. The justice he has always believed in turned out to be a façade, he had to witness another child’s suffering in front of him and his raison d’être comes to the brink of losing her life because he failed to protect her. Everything that keeps him alive, everything that makes him who he is , is shattered right in front of his eyes. MC doesn’t have it any better as she can only watch as her worst nightmare comes true. The last 15-20 minutes of this chapter covers MC’s perpetual fear of being left by Gavin. She says thrice that she doesn’t want him to leave and begs him to stay (unfortunately Gavin doesn’t hear any of it). The have just built their faith in each other and yet got separated again after a brief moment of togetherness. IT becomes one of the issues that MC struggles with for at least 10 chapters, namely her fear of being left alone by Gavin.
Here is a small comparison: All other LIs relationship with MC are doomed because of their choices: Kiro’s alternate personalities as Key (no time) and Helios (no love), Lucien’s involvement as Ares in BS or his values contradicting that of MCs, Victor’s pride and dominance as the research topic for my Phd at Boston College. Those guys actions and personalities conflicting with that of MCs are whats standing on the way of a harmonious relationship. With Gavin, these two are doomed by the seemingly endless external threats. Both Gavin and MC are constantly the main target of somebody’s plans and are under attack. Those poor babies cannot have a second of peace. As if it wasn’t enough, those parties constantly use their bond for their own means. Its Shaw using MC as a bait to provoke Gavin, its Josie telling MC that she is going to kill Gavin, its Gavin’s father using MC to convince Gavin to accept the NW plan. MC and Gavin don’t have any obstacles with regards to their own personalities or choices. They trust each other, stand by each other, understand each other’s perspective and love each other. In this chapter Elex even shows us that they could even take care of a child together for God’s sake. They...just...fit...
Unfortunately once again things unwind to their demise and Gavin, once again, has to leave MC for her sake. Before leaving her, Gavin repairs the gingko leaf bracelet brand new, so that MC can find the reassurance she seeks for on it in his absence and remind her that he will return to her side. He also leaves his jacket behind so that she can still feel his warmth. That’s his promise to her. That’s his reassurance that this is not a goodbye and that he is not ever going to leave without saying goodbye.  GOAL 5# True love is selfless, true love never dies and if two souls belong together, then nothing can keep them apart. because true love prevails.
The chapter ends as its started. MC wakes up in her room after being hospitalized for a while, lost in her thoughts and finding reassurance in the gingko leaf bracelet on her wrist. The only difference this time around is that she wouldn’t find Gavin in her living room or hear three knocks on the door and find him standing tall in front of her... for this time around Gavin is gone...
