Cruel Summer Chapter 1 (Chris Evans x Actress/Singer!Reader)

(Okay, So Ive been away for a hot minute. And I've been through quite a bit. But I got inspired to write this and I hope yall love it!! Couple of things. 1.) Taylor Swift doesnt exist in this series, the reader is like taylor swift! 2) dont come for me, I've been chewing on this idea for a few months now lol. 3.) You’d be delusional to think that he wanted anything more than hookups with you. Being a movie star was hard enough to make a “normal” life ...falling in love with your co-star though...that made everything even worse. That’s what led you to becoming a world famous pop star, releasing smash hit after smash hit. Your smile; when up on that stage, tens of thousands of fans screaming your songs as you sang them, standing ovations, tears of happiness, excitement, thrill, it all made that heartache ease just a little bit. But not all the way.

“Tonight is a HUGE night, I can’t believe you’re going to announce another album. I’m in awe, really I am.” Your mom said, grabbing your shoulders and looking at you in the mirror of the room you were currently using backstage. “Mom, thanks so much for traveling with me during this tour. It means so much to me.” you smiled softly at her, “especially after everything I’ve been through recently. Wanna know the surprise songs tonight? Or just be surprised like everyone else?” you asked with a soft laugh.

Your mom and dad were your biggest and best fans you could have ever asked for. Even during the worst time of your life, you’d had your parents support when changing careers. “Awe, let me be surprised like everyone else dear. Your cue is up….come on,” she gave you a big hug and kissed your cheek. “You’re going to be amazing, just like every other night” she beamed before walking out of your dressing room.

You stared in the mirror, touching up your red lipstick before turning around and walking out. Your bejeweled bodysuit in the colors of your most favorite album you’d put out, pinks and blues. You smiled at the stage crew and everyone working behind the scenes as you walked with your assistant. “Another great sold out crowd out there, the VIP tent is dead center, lots of celebrities are here tonight too.” She smiled before you walked away standing on your mark.

Listening to the entrance music you’d had custom made, caused the memories to flood your mind.

You looked over at him grinning as you both reached for a piece of popcorn. “Soooo I thought you wanted to do something else when you asked me to come to your hotel room 10:30 at night.” you smirked as he laughed, throwing his head back. “While yes, I’d love to do that too….I figured it would be nice to watch a movie or two, enjoy a snack and relax together too. I ordered some wine and chocolate covered strawberries too.” he said leaning closer to you, as you bit your lip leaning into him, letting his lips brush yours. The next thing you knew, he had you pinned to the bed, popcorn littering the floor as he kissed down your neck, slowly pushing your shirt off and attacking your chest.

“Ready? Have fun!!” Your assistant shouted over the music and screaming fans as the platform started to bring you up from under the stage. You plastered a grin on your lips and got in your stance with your mic.

The moment your back up dancers pulled back the large fabric fans to reveal you, you began to sing one of your songs. The roar of screams, cheers and cries erupted throughout the entire stadium as you came into sight for everyone. The platform continued to rise as you sang, smiling at everyone.

The music ended as everyone cheered even louder and you laughed softly, the platform lowering back to the mainstage level; you grinned as the next song began instantly. You loved performing for a crowd, they never made you feel like you weren’t worth the love and attention. You strut toward the front of the stage, beginning to sing the bridge, along with the crowd, when a sight almost threw you off your performance. He stood there in the VIP tent with a cold beer in one hand, his other arm around the shoulders of a petite brunette.

“I'm drunk in the back of the car

And I cried like a baby coming home from the bar (oh)

You belt out the bridge, the crowd screaming louder toward the end. You tried to not to look at the VIP tent, the urge to see him again, standing there happy with some other girl, you danced around, happily grinning at the crowd, encouraging them to sing along. You finally took a break, smiling wide as everyone clapped and cheered. “Hi!” you said cheerfully. “My name is Y/N and welcome to The Eras Tour,” you grinned as the stadium erupted again.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone who is here tonight and I hope that I don’t disappoint. I usually perform only two surprise songs a night, however, I’m feeling…fun tonight, so I want to add another song to the list for you all. It’s one that I don't usually perform live. But, I hope you enjoy it.” you smiled as the platform rose and you looked around, the soft jazz music starting as loud cheers erupted. You couldn't stop the smile that landed on your face as you began to sing.

“We were crazy to think

You smiled looking around, your eyes landed on him again, he had a look in his eyes, just like how he used to look at you, hunger and desperation for your touch. You put your lips back up to the microphone and made eye contact with him again.

You didn’t mean to stare for so long, but the way he looked at you, watching your body move. You wanted to jump off stage and run into his arms again, kissing him, telling him how in love with him you still were, even after the three years that had passed. You felt a tightness in your chest when the girl turned and kissed his neck, and began to dance with him.

You finished the song not soon after and took a small bow as everyone screamed out. You stood still smiling as the platform began to lower, before diving off to get changed. “I need a minute,” you said as your assistant came up to you. She looked slightly confused as they began to help you into your next outfit. How were you going to continue this concert with him staring at you? You didn’t think you could do it honestly.

“I can’t believe you changed the set list, We’re going to have to cut one of the surprise songs.” You looked at her. “No we can’t but we are changing them tonight.” you said as they did up the back of your dress. “What?! Why!” she gasped. “Chris is here,” you said looking at her as her face fell. “With some girl.” she sighed putting a hand on her head “Jesus fucking Christ……okay. Tell me what you need.” you looked at her again as tears filled your eyes. “I need a fucking minute.” you grabbed the new mic rushing off.

how could anyone ever doubt how much taylor swift cares about her fans when:

1. she is the queen of using second (and third) stages to get closer to her fans on tour to ensure that, even if her fans can’t afford the ‘best’ or pit tickets, they can get close to her and have an awesome view.

2. taylor invited her fans into her homes for secret sessions and trusted her fans with her unreleased albums, despite this being a risk to her safety and increasing the likelihood of leaks / spoilers about her new music.

3. she has risked her safety multiple times by walking through the crowd on her tours to say hello to fans, hug them and squeeze their hands to show her gratitude for them coming to her show and to make them happy.

4. she has never done a paid meet and greet. all her meet and greets are free and she is known for giving her fans her undivided attention and time when meeting them.

5. taylor held swiftmas where she sent her fans presents and turned up at a fan’s home with presents. she even included handwritten cards.

6. taylor has a reputation for knowing her fans’ names and recognising faces when she meets them.

7. taylor is very personable with her fans - she bakes them cookies, let’s them talk about their worlds and let’s them hold her cats.

8. taylor puts on shows that are 2+ hours long and will perform medleys to be able to include as many songs as she possibly can in her sets. she will even sing surprise songs, all to ensure that her fans get to hear the songs that they love.

9. at her shows, taylor has included pre-show meet and greet for fans she’s chosen (usually from online interactions or ‘taylurking’) and post-show meet and greet for fans who her mum or her team (taylor nation) chose at / during the show. did i mention both meet and greets are free as well as taking a long time?

10. not to mention, the countless hours taylor has spent interacting online with her fans, especially in previous years which she spent a large amount of on tumblr interacting with thousands of fans: following them, liking & reblogging their posts, and having inside jokes with them.

yes, taylor swift is a capitalist business woman. she’s no different to her male peers in the music industry, or her female peers for that matter. her success is just much greater than most. taylor swift’s success is as large as it is for three reasons: 1) being her talent and hard work; 2) being her business mind and work ethic; and 3) the relationship she upholds with her fans and the way that she is able to generate an investment in her music and her storytelling. of course she wants to break records, of course she wants to make money and of course she wants to be a successful star, however whilst achieving all these things she has remained nothing but humble and grateful to those who believed and invested in her. taylor recognises that her fans are a huge part in where she is today & shows that through all of her efforts above, and more. never doubt that. <3

Perfect

Zayn said he wouldn’t buy the record when he heard Perfect (so salty!). Harry's emotions varied performing it in its short 27 performance run from Oct-Dec when 1D ended. These 2 stand out:

November 20 2015, rather than sing the Bridge Harry said to the crowd "if you think it's so funny you can sing it".

3 days later at the AMAs he rolls his eyes and looks ready to walk out, the camera cuts to a kid who seems to agree. (Bridge is 2:40).

It was only performed 6 more times, in Carpool Karaoke (10:30) Harry stops singing for parts and the song cuts before the bridge, at the Jingle ball he looks away and the last time was new years.

Or this concert he put the mike into the crowd, someone stole the microphone and licked it.

Safe to say he regretted that bridge, it's savage to them both.

Writers

Perfect ties with Fools Gold for the title of the Haylor song with the most writers, at 7. While Fools Gold has all 5 of the band, Bunetta and Ryan. Harry and Louis are the only band members who worked on Perfect with Bunetta, Ryan and 3 others:

Jesse Shatkin, (cowrote Sia's Chandelier)

Jacob Kasher (Maroon 5 collaborator), and

Mozella (cowrote Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball and Fools Gold.)

To me, Perfect has more media grabbing pop-song than Harry Styles. HS’s best 1D work was with teams of 3 or 4 writers. In fact, Bunetta said Olivia came out in 45 minutes while overworking another "less good" MITAM song.

Timeline

Bunetta also told Rolling Stone about Perfect:

"That one took a long time, just because it was written over a couple different continents. It started as one thing and ended up where it is."

MITAM was made in the summer of 2015. To have been written in a couple of continents and with USA based writers it was probably either side of the BBMAs. It could have been started 'as one thing' in April in South Africa before the BBMAs other songs that reference Style including Two Ghosts started early in the year. The "ended up where it is" with those writers would be after the BBMAs, when they got back to the USA from July. This would be at the end of the album and he was singing it daily within 3 months.

Similarity to Taylors songs

It has the same chord progressions as Style and is also very similar to out of the woods as this video on Twitter shows. He called it a love song in the made in the AM interview (6 mins) and that it wasn’t literal in another. I do love this James Cordon bit and I love his Taylor smile so much.

Grapejuice, has the perfect (get it) call back to this verse, along with 'Red' and 'Pay for it' and I love him for it:

Promises come up again in Woman "Promises are broken like a stitches is", which is interesting if both Woman and part of Perfect are written after the 2015 BBMAs.

‘Know what you are looking for’ is interesting. In "Say don't go" and the 1989 TV Vaults in general Taylor did not get what she was looking for. At 23, dating a 19 year old Taylor told us she didn’t get wavy she needed. Her most recent ex, JG was 29. (yes - JG was the age Harry is now! Imagine if he did that) So I kind of stand by this line.

The start refers to the night they met. Which neither has ever confirmed, I think it was in 2011 (see timeline) Many look at the coat he tries on in the music video, which matches both his Up All Night Tour outfit (from December 2011) and the 2012 Kids Choice Awards. The awards are fun though. The Up All Night DVD also has it.

[Verse 2: Niall] I might never be the hands you put your heart in Or the arms that hold you any time you want them But that don't mean that we can't live here in the moment 'Cause I can be the one you love from time to time

Urgh I choose to attribute 'love from time to time' to one of the 6 other people writing this. To me this line always sounds like a boy-band heartthrob priority playing out in the writers room. No wonder it took time and HS1 to overcome this.

However, this does speak to a theme of them not being available to each other because of their careers and 1D punishing schedule. If I could fly's "I'm missing half of me when we're apart" and Half the World Aways " So you're not my girlfriend / Don't pretend that makes us nothing / Tell me you don't miss this feeling" speaks more honestly to the interplay of his band image, schedules and priorities which Taylor referred to Suburban Legends.

[Chorus: Harry, All] But if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms And if you like having secret little rendezvous If you like to do the things you know that we shouldn't do Then, baby, I'm perfect Baby, I'm perfect for you And if you like midnight driving with the windows down And if you like goin' places we can't even pronounce If you like to do whatever you've been dreamin' about Then, baby, you're perfect Baby, you're perfect So let's start right now

Here are Haylor themes we know and love, Driving at midnight (Style, HYGTG, Wish You Would) generally going from a high schooler to superstar overnight (placed they can’t pronounce like Cannes), and hidden love/hiding (I Know Places, Slut!)

[Bridge: Harry] And if you like cameras flashin' every time we go out Oh, yeah And if you're looking for someone to write your breakup songs about Then baby, I'm perfect And baby, we're perfect

The camera’s flashing is good imagery and his voice brings to life how personally challenging it was for them both in a way I Know Places didn't with very few words. Taylor also refers to this imagery in Is it over now?

But the break up songs is a low blow and I assume the part he regretted to the point of not wanting to sing it. In a later interview Harry said:

“The only time you really think, ’is this song too personal?’ is if you think about, ‘is this going to be really annoying for the other person?’ Because I do [care],” he finished.

Which I think the break up song line would have been very annoying.

Artist Development (Male Possession)

Fame can change people. More specifically, fame can change people into me.

Who am I? I'm nobody and everybody. The biggest star in the world and a complete mystery at the same time. I've sold millions of records without anyone learning my name– you've heard my music, you just didn't know it was mine.

Wondering how this is possible? Let me tell you. I will remain anonymous and names will be redacted, but here's the tea on one of the industry's best kept secrets.

I was just a kid from Nowhere, Iowa (so to speak) who thought music was going to be my ticket out, and I was so sure about it that I dropped out of school and chased my dreams all the way to LA. After all, I was a great singer, played twelve instruments, wrote my own songs... surely I had everything it took to become the next big sensation in music!

Cue the laugh track.

Labels were always excited to meet with me after hearing my demos, but the second they saw my face they couldn't get me out of the room fast enough. I wasn't ugly, just... plain. Unremarkable. Average. And labels aren't interested in signing someone you could see walking down the street.

See, the sad thing about the music industry is that talent is only about 10% of what it takes. Maybe 15% on a good day. Having a successful career is 50% image (a fancy way of saying "being hot"), and that was something that I lacked.

But that remaining 40%? That's how willing you are to play the game, and that ended up being my saving grace.

My career was going nowhere fast, and after years of being beaten down by the industry I was on the verge of calling it quits and limping back home to Iowa. Then I got a call from a label (that shall remain nameless) asking for a meeting.

After years of rejecting me they were now offering me a deal: a guaranteed album release, collaborations with the best writers and producers in the business, a national tour, and a multi-million dollar marketing push.

The catch? I wouldn't be doing it as me.

Apparently the label had snapped up some kid that they were convinced had tons of star potential, but executives were nervous that he was a bit too green to succeed in the industry and they had come up with a radical new solution that could revolutionize artist development. Their r&d team had developed certain technology that could transfer consciousness from one human to another, effectively allowing them complete control over another person's body and live as them indefinitely.

The plan was to implant someone else into the kid's body and have them bear the brunt of his early years– someone with talent, experience, and most importantly, someone desperate that they could control. Someone just like me.

Though what we were doing was entirely legal (just a tip to any aspiring artists out there, always read the fine print in your contracts), for obvious reasons the label wanted to keep it on the down-low. The deal was that I'd "help" him through his first album, and then disappear into the shadows... but during that time I'd get to be a superstar.

Naturally I was conflicted. It was a tempting offer, but it was strange knowing that none of the success would truly be mine. No one would ever know my name. Was a hollow victory better than a defeat? Was I willing to sacrifice my artistic integrity for success?

Turned out the answer was "yes."

What sealed the deal for me was when they showed me a picture of the kid... a tall, strapping white boy who looked like he was built in a lab by thirsty gay men. I'd get to live my dream, and I'd get to do it looking like that? I'd be an idiot to pass that up.

So I accepted and turned him into the superstar he is today. Perhaps you've heard of him.

I spent two years piloting his body while he got his career off the ground, and with his face and my talent it wasn't long until I was topping the charts... and plenty of groupies as well. Fame is the ultimate aphrodisiac, but having tight abs doesn't hurt either! His penis was actually smaller than mine (bummer) but the rest of the package more than made up for it; the face of the boy next door with a body built for sin.

After years of being unremarkable, being a star went to my head fast and I'm not ashamed to admit that I became a bit of a slut... but trust me, if you could experience what it's like to be the hottest young thing on the scene, you'd do the same. I used that guy's body to fuck men and women in every city across America, and I even managed to do it without tarnishing his good boy image.

As long as I never missed a show or appointment, the suits were happy– and it helped that I was sucking them off behind their wives' backs.

(Like I said, you have to be willing to play the game.)

Eventually my contract ended and the label allowed the artist to resume control of his own body, but they were so pleased by my performance that they asked me to help them out with someone else– an established artist whose wild behavior was becoming a bit of a liability. Would I mind stepping in for him for a bit and helping get his career back on track after a few scandals?

And since then my life has been a whirlwind of different bodies. I've become the industry's invisible hatchet man, the enforcer who gets called in to deal with singers who need a bit of extra attention.

I've done it all: broken in newbies, rebranded stars, stood in for legends. I did a year in South Korea as a Kpop star– didn't speak a word of Korean, but that doesn't matter when you're as beautiful as he was. Name a boy band, I've probably spent at least a week as one of their members. I'm everywhere.

By this point I've lived so many lives that it would be pointless to list them all, so I'll stick to the greatest hits.

I took over the body of the frontman of a rock band who didn't want to "sell out" by going in the more sexual, commercial direction that the label wanted for them– which I, of course, had no qualms about. His shirt came off, and everyone was happy about what was underneath.

The other members of the group were skeptical at first, but I can be very persuasive when I put my mind to it. A lot of their fans wound up absolutely hating the new music, but hey, that wasn't any of my business!

Being onstage as a rock star is electrifying, when the music pounds and the crowd screams I feel like an absolute god. When I was up there shaking that wiry body around I knew that every single person in that room wanted to fuck me, and the second I got offstage I did my best to let them. Even if they didn't like the music, none of them complained when I invited them back to my dressing room.

And let me tell you, alt-rock groupies? They're freaky.

A lot of the artists I get assigned to are skinny young men (because every label thinks they're going to launch the next teen idol) so it's always a treat when I get to work as someone a bit more... let's say mature.

Once a popular r&b singer got into a dispute with his label over not wanting to film a certain feline related movie, so I was brought in to smooth things out in my own special way.

His voice wasn't that great but damn, could he move. I had to take a crash course in dancing but thanks to his body's muscle memory in a few weeks I was doing flips and splits I'd never dreamed of. The things his body could do were insane, and I took full advantage of that.

Strictly speaking about bodies, his was the best I've had. He was big in a way a lot of the other guys weren't, huge biceps and rippling pecs that I loved to show off. A hell of an ass too, though I didn't get much use out of it because he had the biggest penis I'd ever seen on a man and I wanted to cram that elephant trunk into everything I could.

A lot of the time, when I look in the mirror at the bodies of these superstars, I wish that I could suck on their dick. But in his body? If I bent over I actually could.

Honestly I hated the music I made as him– but man, I miss that dick.

I had similar motivations for spending a few months as an up and coming country music star– a bit more indie than my usual jobs, but I jumped at the chance to try out being a bigger guy (because let's face it, there aren't enough of those in the industry).

After years of cycling between bodies with abs it was a bit of a shock to suddenly have a gut, but the experience was even better than I could have dreamed. It's sensual in a different way– the feeling of all that soft flesh sliding under my hands still haunts my dreams.

Plus he was openly gay (another rarity, look at that) which meant I didn't have to keep my usual nighttime escapades on the down low. I didn't feel any less sexy– quite the opposite actually, I've never had people worship my body as hard as the guys I hooked up with when I was a scruffy bear cub.

Being gym trained hunks isn't exactly a hardship, but I did tell my management to keep an eye out for any more jobs like this one.

But probably my favorite experience was when I spent eight months helping a certain reggaeton artist break into the US market. The sex I had using that body? Out of this world.

I'm not sure what it was but his body was just built for sex. It oozed out of every inch of him, from those bulging tattooed arms to the hefty seven inches (soft!) he was packing down below. There was even a music video where someone sucked on my toes, because apparently even his feet were sexy.

This was the closest I ever came to getting fired, but I couldn't help it! I was constantly horny, all I could think about was drinking and screwing. I ended up overindulging a bit and the paparazzi caught some snaps of me stumbling out of a party naked and well... even though this guy had nothing to be ashamed of, it wasn't my proudest moment.

My ass was saved because the pictures blew up on Twitter in a good way, so his management decided that having a sexy bad boy image was actually good for him. Getting paid to party, have one night stands, and dance around shirtless? I have the best job in the world, and I never want to lose it.

Currently I'm assigned to a new guy, some viral online sensation that the label is worried will be just a one-hit wonder and needs the help of my special brand of direction.

I'm excited because I'm already seeing tons of "potential" in him... we're gonna make sweet music together, I can tell.

Tomorrow x Together Talk Rocking Out, Voguing and Why They Loved Making Their New Album (Exclusive)

The K-pop stars had a ball sampling genres from new wave to metal on their latest release, 'The Name Chapter: FREEFALL'

The themes of Tomorrow x Together's latest album may be about facing the realities of adulthood, but making it was a sweet indulgence for the K-pop stars — and listening is sure to be one for their fans.

The 10 tracks on the group's third full-length album, The Name Chapter: FREEFALL (out Oct. 13), represent an almost shockingly diverse range of genres, from indie rock and new wave to disco and metal. Yes, metal.

Getting to experiment with their sound and break out of some pop stereotypes, they say, was their favorite part of the process. "We really love to try out new genres and I think that's why a lot of people are enjoying our songs," Hueningkai, 21, tells PEOPLE.

"I think nothing's more fun than experimenting with a new genre. We don't want to be confined to a single one," Taehyun, 21, adds. "I think we have our own team color and we can put our color into different genres, so I want to go down this path and keep on trying new ones."

The five-member group — which also includes Soobin, 22, Yeonjun, 24, and Beomgyu, 22 — have dabbled in more rock-influenced songs in the past, in particular on The Chaos Chapter: FREEZE, which spawned the head bang-worthy "0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)." But the opening track of FREEFALL, "Growing Pain," goes much harder.

Their latest single, "Chasing That Feeling," is just about the antithesis: a driving, synth-filled '80s pop track that would feel at home as an OST for Stranger Things. The song also provided the group with the opportunity to try out another new genre — this time, in dance.

"For the choreo of our lead track, we added some voguing into the dance. I think that was a new challenge," Yeonjun explains.

"Back for More," their collaboration with Brazilian superstar Anitta, has a decidedly disco vibe, which they were able to showcase at the MTV VMAs in September. While they were "a little bit nervous because we were performing our pre-release song for the first time," says Soobin, he got a boost of confidence from a famous friend.

Bebe Rexha, who was also in attendance, and Soobin become friendly after realizing they were mutual fans. So when his nerves flared up at the award show, he says, "Bebe would smile at me, and it felt like somehow she's rooting for me without speaking. I think I kind of relied on her and I was very thankful for her energy."

Their most memorable performance of the summer, however, was likely in Chicago, where they headlined Lollapalooza, a festival they'd performed at for the first time on a smaller stage just last year.

"I think it was very meaningful that we got to showcase our songs and our music to a bigger crowd. It's our second time around, so I think we had more fun and we were enjoying the stage more," Hueningkai says. "I remember that [the fans] were using their flashlights on their phones to make the light for us, so that was something that I will hold dear to my heart."

The group involve their fans in every part of their work — not just when performing in front of them, but keeping them at the center of the creation of their music as well.

While the members were involved in composing and writing the songs on this album, as they have for their previous releases, one track stands out as incredibly personal to the group: "Blue Spring," a song composed for their fans, known collectively as MOA (for Moments of Alwaysness).

"I wrote the track for the song, and all of the members participated in writing the lyrics," Beomgyu says. "I think that's why we could really tell MOA it's about how we feel about them. I think it's really special that we get to write our own songs and talk to MOA straight out of our hearts."

kamilah has read literally EVERYTHING (except for modern fiction bc she says she’s read the same stories a thousand times before); and

lucy sends kamilah historically inaccurate memes - on purpose - bc she knows that kamilah will respond with a mini essay explaining how that’s wrong and the true events (it’s the easiest ways to draw stories out of the ancient vampire); kamilah never catches on

kamilah ONLY listens to music on vinyl (i imagine “Turn Me On” by Norah Jones constantly playing in the background of her penthouse); and

lucy sends kamilah spotify links all the time, bc she wants to know what kamilah thinks (of that! specific song!). kamilah promptly orders the album’s vinyl record to give it a listen, and she returns with a simple x/10 rating for the entire album

kamilah loves the lego botanical series. it all started when lucy bought her one, expecting typical unamused kamilah^TM; but she actually really enjoyed it???? (only after lucy convinced her to give it a try) and now it sits on the coffee table next to kamilah’s business magazines and lucy’s pile of current reads

kamilah always upgrades to the newest iphone, yet she uses her phone for less than an hour a day AND all of her devices wallpapers are the boring default ones

YES of course!! i hadn't mentioned it in a while bc from nico's pov, it's never been something he's worried too much about, and quite honestly i hadn't thought about it in a bit either so i had to do a little research (aka, looking up celebs that i think have a relatively similar sized fanbase/what i most recently said - according to the last chapter of talk your talk, he had 5 million insta followers, and 5 million monthly listeners when he went back to school post-haunted)

since the end of talk your talk, he's released new romantics and been on a world tour

for twitter, it seems to be less than the number of insta followers, usually about 1/6 - 1/3-ish of a celeb's insta follower count

he's released a whole ass album since that 5 million monthly listeners, and new romantics charted pretty high

monthly listeners count how many individual users listen to the account, not the total number of streams (hence why the weeknd is higher than taylor in terms of that, because he has more really popular singles rather than having fans returning to albums and whatnot, which would be more of a nico thing

Thoughts on Yoonmin Suchwita

Just a quickie write up of my first impressions as I'm slammed with deadlines at work today.

Of course Park Jimin brought Yoongi a birthday cake and serenaded him. Of course he did.

How touching to learn Yoongi bought Jimin his first alcoholic drink to help him through his soulmate dumpling fight!

Early in the year Jimin was in a huge funk and drank a lot (I WONDER WHAT COULD BE THE REASON), but then he snapped out of it for Las Vegas and spent 10 months obsessively working on his album, in which he realized how good he's had it, where he needs to improve, and what he really wants. Amazing creative growth.

So, clearly Yoonmin enjoy pulling each other's pigtails. Hearing Yoongi tease Jimin that he didn't have the body to go shirtless any more... not gonna lie, I sucked in a sharp breath. I am super sensitive to this because of my own disordered eating in the past as a dancer, and I know how Jimin gets dragged online damned near every day for being "Pigman." Frankly, Yoongi should know it, too. But Jimin seemed totally unbothered and they do razz each other about everything, so I'm gonna try and let this go.

The other thing I'm going to try and let go is how hard folks are going to lean into Jimin saying Letter was a fan song. Yes, it was an Easter egg for fans, and yes, he does love us. No, that song is not FOR us and anyone with half a brain gets what is being coded. But I'm not gonna argue about it any more than I'm going to argue about the placement of a J over an M tattoo that keeps being retouched while the others are neglected. If you want plausible deniability, Jikook will always give it to you. Have at it.

Anyway, I was so moved by all the wonderful things Yoongi said, in between teasing Jimin--how proud he was of Jimin, how hard he worked, practicing every single day, that he was a genius, that he always knew Jimin had the unique voice to be a great singer, that he wanted Jimin on his team from day one... that of course he will come to the music shows to support Jimin. Yoongi doesn't typically gush so this warmed my heart.

The way Yoongi kept insisting Jimin come appear on stage while he's on tour and Jimin eventually agreeing that he will. (Roo is going to try very, very hard not to hope he will come to Newark. More than likely Jimin will visit Yoongi on a stage is Asia and that's cool. It's all cool. If Roo saw Park Jimin in person this April, she would combust.)

It was made clear that the members are responsible for their solo promotions and have a heavy say in their albums so I hope that kills any rumors that the company is forcing a narrative or picking favorites. Everything is unfolding how the Tannies wish it to and that's good enough for me to get behind it.

I love how Jimin said that there's no difference between Park Jimin and Jimin of BTS--how he wants to keep going as a team until they are in their 80s--how what he looks forward to most is getting back together in 2025.

Also the way he kept hinting at another album (and the way Yoongi called him out on that--Yoongi pulled no punches, goddamn.)

It was adorable the way they made each other giggle about product placements, fan calls, fan challenges and the like. These two. I'm so glad Yoongi has Jimin and the other members to get silly with. And Jimin laughed til he cried. It was healing to see.

I love that they keep in touch with Jin, that they bring Jin mulhue, that they are happy he's at a healthy weight now.

I'm a little thrown about Yoongi mentioning grandkids but then bisexuals exist and there's been rumors he's dating a woman for a while now. I am not going to dig into it because that's his business. If Yoongi wants a family someday, awesome sauce. If Yoongi doesn't, awesome sauce. I mean this sincerely--I support all 7 wherever they go on their journeys. Even if Jikook don't end up together, I'll be sad about it, but I'm still in this Bangtan shit for life. I'm OT7, and Jimin ult biased, then a Jikook supporter. I happen to believe that Jikook are very much together but being very careful about showing that openly, but if you think otherwise, or it ends up being otherwise, that's honestly okay.

I will just say I'm loving that Yoongi gave Jimin a gift of pillow mist spray in Jungkook's and Jimin's favorite scent of lavender.

Mostly just happy to see our boys so happy.

double record-

ok double record breakdown for the people:

yes, it means the formatting is similar to the 2LP set up they had with TBAGG. on a typical 12 inch record, each side can hold about 22 minutes worth of music, so 5 songs give or take depending on the length. i think TBAGG had 3 songs on each side of either record bc it was 12 songs. those songs were also considerably longer than most (looking at you TWOD).

while TFS is currently the shortest song on starcatcher (this could change of course), they seem to be maintaining a relatively similar length of the songs when comparing it to TBAGG.

we obviously have no idea how long the songs are going to be on the next record, but danny made it out to seem like they had a very large number of songs in general so i think its going to come down to picking 12-20 ish songs and that will make up the double record. they might keep them shorter to fit more songs on each side, or they might keep it at 3 songs per side like TBAGG. we won't know until the time comes and that could be in a year, two, or maybe three if they decide to take a bit of a break.

good news is that provides us with more than just 10 songs like starcatcher has. bad news (for our bank accounts at least) is i've found that double records tend to be a bit more expensive. yes i understand that it depends on where you're buying them and potentially the popularity of the artist but it's not uncommon to see those go for somewhere around $50-$70 give or take. again there are plenty of determining factors as to what the price ends up being.

regardless, as we all know, and as danny admitted, the guys are workaholics. they're constantly writing and likely recording so they have tons of music on the back burner ready to be released. i honestly wouldn't be shocked if the double album has more songs than TBAGG

The music blasted through the speakers while you and Chan sang along.

It was fun. You didn’t know how much you needed this road trip with him, but it felt so freeing being away from daily life and work, even if it was just for a bit, it felt so good. Especially being with Chan.

As the song that was playing slowly came to an end you picked up your phone to play another you were in the mood for. “Is it fine if I switch to another playlist?”, you looked up at Chan, who nodded, eyes still fixated on the road “Yeah sure, go ahead.” Little did he know you were going to play your rock/hard rock playlist on shuffle since you haven’t really listened to it in a while and missed blasting it in the car.

It wasn’t that you were hiding it on purpose or anything like that but it just never really occurred to you to bring up your literal obsession with rock and metal in a conversation with Chan, which was quite odd since music was your topic of conversation more often than not. So the look of surprise on Chan’s face when you started the song and started singing along was priceless.You didn't see it though since you were way into your singing to notice anything around you, you also didn’t notice the fond smile adorning your boyfriend’s face as he glanced at you.

In Chris’ eyes you were adorable.

He let you finish your song before starting to talk. “Didn’t know you were into rock”, he chuckled, turning to look at you with his eyebrows raised.

“Oh, I didn’t tell you about it?”

“Nope”

With the realization slowly hitting you you got more and more shy. ‘Idiot.’ You thought to yourself ‘What if he finds it weird or cringe even?? Ofc he would, who even listens to music from over 10 years ago anymore??? Great. Now he thinks you’re-’

“You’re so cute” Chan cut off your train of thought as if he could read your mind.

“What?” You were dumbfounded. Cute??? He thought you were cute after this????

“Yeah, I mean, it was definitely unexpected but it’s cute.” He chuckled again and the shyness hit you even harder than before.

Now you were a blushing mess trying to hide your face in your hands, the music playing long forgotten. Chan glanced at you again then started laughing.

“You still blush when I call you cute?”

“Shut up” you replied trying to hide your face even further. “You’re adorable” Chan said, patting your head as you whined for him to stop.

“By the way,” he spoke again after a bit, making you look up at him “Hm?”

“Send me the playlist I like it.”

Your whole face lit up with excitement “Really?” “Yeah,” He smiled “You know It’s also great inspo for our new album since we really wanted to go for a rock concept.” You sent him the playlist immediately and started rambling about your favorite songs and bands, and you were the happiest sharing something you loved with the person you loved the most.

Okay, review of Ponniyin Selvan 2 incoming (whether you like it or not) (and again, this is my personal opinion about the movie so please don’t kill me if you don’t agree).

I don’t know what to say. I really don’t. *proceeds to write essay*

Is it a good movie? Yes, hell yes, 100%

But will I be religiously rewatching this like I did part one? Maybe not.

Part 2 is a different vibe than part one. Like a complete script flip. It's a different movie (I guess one can figure that out from how different the album of the second movie is to the first). The drama (more like angst, ngl) amongst the characters is intensified while the story just seems to be something running in the background. We learn a lot more about some of the characters-- we see a different side to them: let it be the vulnerable side of Nandini or a more humanized form of Adhitha. Some of the prominent questions from part 1 are answered in part 2 (point to note: we are given the backstory of adhita and nandini which I think is a fantastic addition) but yeah I still don’t really know how to clearly explain this movie. It’s like one of those pieces of art that you have to see to cherish, to understand why people are going crazy about it.

There are moments that just make you want to go “what the actual hell” but there are others where you’re just sitting there, with your mouth wide open and/or tears welling up in your eyes. And it does not help that oftentimes this movie becomes a pendulum between these feelings.

The acting and the actors are a saving grace. Everyone is PERFECTLY cast and the scenes are such that even if there is a small hiccup, it's going to look like a big joke. The chemistry the cast has with each other is insane. Off the charts. (and I'm coining this right now, Chiyan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, and Karthi are going to SWEEP all the awards). The scenes between the lovers, let it be kundavai and vanthiyadevan or nandini and adhitha is some of the best acting I have seen.

The music is also another savior in disguise. Let it be the first 10 minutes of the movie with the three songs back to back, or let it be using Veera Raja Veera on three separate occasions to highlight three different moments in the movie-- Rahman really killed it with this one (although I am a bit disappointed that NONE of the songs were used in their entirety— someone pull the editor out of the editing room asap).

The cinematography? *chefs kiss* Give Ravi Varman a National Award right now.

I think the most disappointing aspect for me is that Mani sir was never really given the chance to fully explore the characters, the themes, the subplots, or just the book in general. Don’t get me wrong, this is one of the most genuine book-to-movie adaptations I’ve seen and although Mani Ratnam was insistent that Ponniyin Selvan is something that truly deserves to be on the big screen, I think it would’ve worked absolute wonders if it were a series. I would totally not be opposed to a director's cut (trust me I will watch it even if it ends up being a seven-hour movie) if it gives us an opportunity to see Mani sir's strengths and the usual magic in his other films shine through more because the restriction of time is taken out.

Alright, I've been compiling my thoughts about the most recent OnlyOneOf comeback, "dOpamine" from the album Things I Can't Say LOve for a few days now, since it came out 2024/01/10 (it was still the 9th my time, but still). I've got pages of notes, and I'm getting ready to start (the essay will be a different post).

I wanted to start though with some fun observations about "dOpamine" as an MV and how it's doing so far in the grand scheme of things.

Upcoming Posts: thoughts on the MV/album description, individual song posts, breakdown of themes in the album and how it connects to narrative of queer love/desire/acceptance

(Even if this isn't the essay yet, it did get long, so putting it behind a cut for the sake of the tag.)

"dOpamine" is effectively a performance video with some drama shots, and this is something that has been peppered through OnlyOneOf's MVs from the start, with "time leap" which "dOpamine" definitely visually calls back to. Other examples include "chrOme arts/hearts" (discussed further below), "zurui onna," "suit dance," and to some extent "gaslighting" and "dOra maar" (which never got an MV but has a dance/performance). I know that I was hoping for a story driven MV, and I still have some hope that we might get a second MV for this mini album that might give us that, but I've also accepted that this is a performance MV.

[Warning for flashing lights in "chrOme arts" if you've not already watched it]

Of their recent MVs this probably aligns the most with "chrOme arts" in terms of what the MV is doing. It's set in a relatively empty warehouse, there's queer lighting, it's dance focused. Unlike with "chrOme arts" where there's a few distinctive moments of touch in the dance and MV, in "dOpamine" they entirely are dancing independently. This is intriguing especially in context of the initial video teaser to "things I can't say lOve" that has several of the members touching Yoojung in a very queer desire sort of way.

Where "chrOme arts" has bisexual mood lighting, "dOpamine" has it's laser light show during parts of the dancing that is in the colors of the MLM/gay flag:

This jumped out at me on very first watch, and I know that I mentioned it at the time, but I found it really striking. For all that we have that bare warehouse vibes, and no touching in the MV. With the lighting and the dancing and the lyrics and the album description, it's still a very queer MV.

I do love that this MV has some really strong parallels to "time leap" in terms of presentation and setting because it's interesting to see that feeling almost of going back to the start but knowing more, being more prepared now. This is something that has been talked about a bunch in their songs and narratives, so I'm really interested to see if it will tie in to more of what they do in the upcoming weeks and months. Especially since they have talked about having had a long arc of work planned out from debut (which yes we know did get a little derailed/changed after libidO era, but did include libidO), and I wonder if this feeling of looping back to "time leap" with the narrative of queerness and then moving forward through that is something that was planned long ago. I have a lot of connections back to previous songs and MVs that I noticed as I was doing my more in depth examination of the album, so I'm having some feelings about this connection. Something that is exciting for me with respect to how this song and MV are performing is that "dOpamine" is drawing far more attention than any of their previous performance style MVs have. It's at over 1M views on YouTube after only 4 days, and while I don't have strong feelings about YouTube views in the grand scheme of things, it's interesting in the context that a lot of the performance MVs have never broken 1M no matter how good/loved the song is among lyOn. I think that it's really telling how much undergrOund idOl and their tour and just the past few years have grown their fandom and name recognition that a performance MV without their incredible storytelling is doing this well for them.

my heart in your hands

an: i'm back to writing again! this fic is LOOSELY based on the song pools to bathe in by the japanese house.

pairing: timeskip!sakusa x fem!reader

warnings: angst (being left out by friends), alcohol consumption, angst to fluff, lowercase intentional

sakusa kiyoomi is a man built around structure. schedules, lists, routines, and making sure to always be on time. no detail left unnoticed, no issue left unsolved.

that's why this behavior from him is concerning.

a friday night for sakusa looks a bit different than the average 20-something-year-old. after his regular morning routine, breakfast, and chores, he heads to practice. When practice is finished, he drives back home, showers, and begins his night.

he orders from the same takeout place, at the same time, and gets the same dish. never late, never early. he has become the restaurant's favorite customer, always giving him a little something extra in his delivery. after his food is delivered, sakusa will sit in his kitchen, put on an album of choice, and eat his dinner in peace. After cleaning up, he will head into the living room, turn on a movie, and lay across his couch with the same blanket and pillow as the week before.

sure, he likes structure and consistency. that doesn't mean he isn't fun. his ideas of fun include more low-key activities, things that allow him to relax in ways much different than his hyperactive friends.

that doesn't mean he wouldn't like to be included.

earlier tonight, after his shower, he received a few messages from friends, all including different photos of them getting ready to head out for the night. atsumu, bokuto, and hinata in the car on their way to dinner, mirror selfies, and a couple more candid photos of the guys. responding with a quick looks fun, sakusa then places his order for his regular dinner.

sitting on the couch, preparing his movie, his phone buzzes yet again, a new set of photos filling his screen. hinata and bokuto holding up bottles, atsumu giving a thumbs up, backlit by the flashing lights of the dancefloor.

sakusa is happy that they are having such fun together, but he can’t help but feel upset. scoffing, sakusa looks at his reflection in the tv screen. left out, yet again.

like a child.

just once, he wants to be included in whatever the guys decide to do. going to clubs, going to different parties, even just heading out for a bite to eat. but, since most of these activities are last minute or spontaneous, sakusa's invite seems to get forgotten.

every time.

while, yes, he doesn't like impulsivity. that behavior just leads to future issues and regrets. but being left out, time and time again, without any indication that they feel bad at all? no texts of wish you were here! or any talk of come out with us next time, omi omi. that hurts. watching them go out, having fun and letting loose, all while sitting behind the screen, watching everything through the window of missed opportunity.

this was the last straw. standing up, watching the blanket fall to his feet, sakusa decides to do something different. he doesn't have the slightest idea of what, every friday for the past year now has been the exact same.

what do people do on a friday night?

it had been a long day. working a little later than you had intended, you weren't allowed as much time as you would've liked at the store. limiting yourself to a couple things, in hopes of catching the next bus home, you quickly weave in and out of the isles.

turning a corner to head to the check-out, you bump into something, dropping a few of the items that didn't fit in your basket.

"i'm so sorr- kiyoomi?"

staring up in disbelief, you are face to face with one of your best friends. he just stares back, eyes seeming a little distant.

"its friday."

"i know that."

"why are you not at home?" checking your phone, you shove it in his face to prove your point. "it's almost 10, which means you should be halfway through your movie,"

face scrunching up, he swats your phone away. "i decided to do something different." a long pause follows. "what."

he blinks at you, unamused.

"are you sick?"

rolling his eyes, he walks with you towards the checkout. "i feel just fine, thanks. can i just do something different for once?"

you place your first scanned item into the bag. "of course you can," you grab the next item, turning it around to find the barcode. "it's just very unlike you, that's all."

humming, he grabs your bag of groceries for you so that you can grab the card to pay.

"well, what are you planning to do? you didn't even buy anything," you mumble, sticking your card into the card reader.

he scoffs. "i don't know what i want to do, i was hoping i would get inspired." that makes you laugh out loud, much to his dismay.

"how about you come over then. i need a ride anyway," looking over your shoulder, sakusa follows you out the door, and leads you to his car.

the car ride to your house is short, the city lights illuminating the inside of the car, dancing across sakusa's hands and the fabric of your clothes. trying not to distract yourself too much, you look out the window, counting the apartments until you pull up to yours.

once inside, sakusa heads right for your couch and plops himself down. smiling at his comfortable state, you put away your groceries in peace. after changing out of your work clothes, you find him in the same spot as before, invested in something on his phone.

"something wrong?" he jumps and playfully swipes at you as you laugh at his reaction. "no, 'm fine."

grabbing his phone, he lets out a sigh of defeat as you zoom out of the photo he was analyzing. in the photo are his teammates, posing with someone else. another tall, very muscular guy, who you assume must be another volleyball player.

"oh, your teammates went out to the club tonight?" he nods.

"and you said no?" he shakes his head. you hum.

"they didn't invite you, did they?" he nods again, letting out an exasperated sigh.

leaning his head over the armrest of the couch, sakusa looks through the window upside down, hoping the traffic below would give him the answer as to why he isn't good enough to be invited out with his friends. feeling embarrassed at his childish thoughts, he sits up and snatches his phone out of your hands.

"it's fine. they do this a lot," he murmurs, sticking his phone back into his pocket. your heart pangs in your chest.

you recognize this feeling immediately. it's the same feeling you get when you see all of your friends meeting for brunch without you. its the same feeling you get in your stomach when you were young, watching everyone play together, except you.

it's also the same feeling you get in your chest when you see a tabloid article of sakusa out with another woman.

you sigh. "i'm sorry, 'omi." he throws his head back on the couch cushion, wiping his face with his hands. "why am i even bothered by this? it's my own fault."

"why is it your fault that they leave you out?"

sitting up, he turns to face you with his arm stretched over the back of the couch. "i always say no when invited anywhere last minute. i turn down any invitation to go to clubs, and i hate when my whole schedule gets messed up," as he lists off his reasons, he counts them off on his fingers. "it makes sense why they wouldn't invite me, i never even give them a chance.”

"it still hurts to be left out, though," you grab his hand and try to meet his gaze, which he avoids.

"i just hate it. i feel stupid, like a kid, and-"

"its completely okay to feel upset about this, kiyoomi. i feel this way all the time, when-" cutting yourself off when you picture last week's post of sakusa out with a supermodel, you purse your lips together. "i just know how hard it is, that's all. but you've done nothing wrong."

sakusa knows exactly why you stopped talking. last week, after his manager messaged him to warn him about the post, he tried calling you to distract himself from the stress. you didn't answer, texting him back an excuse, something about getting ready for bed. he knows this was a lie, because every time this has happened, you tend to go quiet on him. he's wanted to bring it up, but he doesn't see a point.

because i'm not good enough for her anyway.

you could tell that this was eating at him, big time. he couldn't sit still, he wouldn't look you in the eye, and he was clinging to the throw pillow for dear life.

"omi," you sigh, scooting a little closer to him. he tenses, but relaxes when he feels your hand running through his hair. "it’s okay to be upset. it’s a shitty feeling, i know. but,” you stand up, earning an annoyed groan from sakusa from the loss of touch. “i wanna cheer you up. come join me in the kitchen, i’ll make ya something to drink,”

watching you walk towards the fridge, his lips pull into a small smile. for the second time tonight, he’s received an invitation to spend time with you. that fills him with just a little bit of hope.

maybe he’ll even tell you that, but only after he has a couple drinks. you’ve been known to make them a bit stronger.

1. How long have you been a New Order fan? i know it started after watching 24 hour party people in 2019 but i don’t think i really sat down and listened to an album until 2020

2. How many New Order concerts have you been to? sadly zero. maybe one day i will when i can get fix my fate

3. What was your favourite New Order gig? i absolutely love one of their very early tv performances in 1981 on Granada television in Manchester. i’ll add the link at the bottom cause it’s worth watching i promise

4. What is your fav New Order album? i always say PC&L and i still can’t refute it

5. Fav New Order song? judging by my most played tracks it’s Mr Disco but in my heart it’s Touched by the Hand of God

6. Favourite Member of New Order? giving a shoutout to Stephen for being there since the beginning and still remaining sane after all these years

7. Favourite Former Member of New Order? can i just say peter hook was kind okay during the 80s period so i guess i’ll say like 1983 hooky

8. How many NO albums do you own? currently i have 4(?) cds though ive had more in the past - a few were passed to other peeps

9. Do you own any Joy Division? still searching for a copy of Closer but ive got Unknown Pleasures and a Best Of cd

11. Do you have all the side project albums? definitely not because hooky’s band/thing from the 90s doesn’t appeal to me and Electronic + The Other Two stuff is so rare in the wild rip

21. Favourite Barney collaboration? i always think about him producing some things for the happy mondays which means he was practically a babysitter for strung out late 20yr olds which is something we should never forget

im seeing so much stuff comparing illit's debut to newjeans, and whilst i agree that yeah, the chorus of magnetic does sound very newjeans-esque, that the rest of the song does NOT, and the album as a whole sounds completely different to newjeans. i want to know if the people hating on illit have actually listened to more than the chorus of magnetic bc i cannot see any newjeans resemblance in the rest of the song and album honestly!! for me, as a newjeans stan, illit actually reminds me more of a blend of triples, stayc and fifty fifty...and can i remind you all that newjeans' concept has changed and developed a LOT since their debut album, we can't judge a band's entire concept based on one ep! in terms of the visuals and music video, honestly again they feel different. the whole school girl concept in their trailer reminded me a lot more of the fun, chaotic energy in triples's songs 'generation' and 'girls' capitalism', along with 'stereotype' by stayc rather than the seriousness and vintage feel of 'ditto'. i think we also need to remind ourselves that y2k and liquid bass and drum music is a trend and is not 'owned' by any group; we've seen this kind of music recently from almost every girl group, as it's a popular genre at the moment, and although newjeans did help popularise it, it's been around for a while (stayc have been using it since debut) and other bands are allowed to make this kind of music too.

i actually went and listened to some newjeans (bc i adore them and their music) after listening to illit's ep and i honestly can't see that much similarities other than the fact that both groups are young and pretty...which is basically every new girl group these days anyway. out of all the songs 'new jeans' probably has the most similarity in my opinion, but even the vibe for that still feels different to the rest of illit's songs.

anyway, moral is, let's not accuse a group that literally debuted yesterday of copying another group! we can't judge illit's entire concept based off one ep...they're literally fresh out of the kpop debut womb, let them and their music taste grow and develop as they go! i can guarantee almost no group in kpop has had a completely consistent concept all throughout their career; trends will come in and out and change, and so will groups. let them settle in before bombarding them with accusations!
