I don't think you'll have it canon to Anyone as you have a different backstory in mind, but I'm imagining Anyone AFO telling the Anyone circle his crazy backstory and them thinking he's just screwing with them while Yoichi is just like :/ in the vestige world hearing it
This is not canonical in the Anyoneverse and in any of my fics because it would wreck my AFOs. (Except maybe for the twin part. I need to see what I wrote.) However, I know exactly how the reveal would go in Anyone.
‐-------‐-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AFO: "Back in my days, we didn’t have it easy like you spoiled brats! The only minions we got was the one we spare from our daily slaughter because their powers were useless and because your brother couldn’t stop whining about how killing was bad and how he just wanted to go to pre-school!"
Izuku: *already put his let's-ignore-the-evil-white-cat playlist and has been playing with his earbuds for the past five minutes*
AFO: "And let's not even talk about having to take care of Yoichi since I was born. Some people to raise their siblings as teenagers. I started doing it five minutes after I was born."
Izuku: *head bobbing with the music*
AFO: "I didn’t even become a villain for a motive as mercantile as money. I just stumbled into it, between the moment my mother gave birth to me by the river and rats immediately tried to eat me, and the moment I had to learn to swim to escape the rats. While carrying my brother."
Izuku: *does not hear one word*
AFO: "And did I get a word of thanks for making sure my brother and I survived? No, it was always "Don't daily kill people, Big Brother!", "Could you please slow down with the slaughter, Big Brother?", "Oh, a comic book not too stained with blood!"..."
Izuku: *silently singing along the lyrics of the new All Might movie soundtrack*
Dabi, Kurogiri, Hawks and Shouto: *huddled in one side of the bar, absolutely horrified, their brains about to explode*
Nagisa, listening to them from home: "What the fuck?"
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Hawks: "Shouldn't we do something after hearing this? Like put him in therapy ASAP?"
Kurogiri: "Where will you find a therapist that can undo two centuries of *waves at all that AFO is*
Dabi: "I feel that urge to go home and to apologize to my family and to cherish them."
-----------------------------------------------------------------
16 year ago:
Hisashi: "I had problems with my brother back in the day so I think that, for this one, we should study ahead with the behavior training."
Inko: "I am so glad you're saying that because I kinda plurged for child-rearing-books with your credit card."
Hisashi: "Child rearing books?"
Hisashi: *promptly hides the Training Your Puppy For Dummies book behind his back*
Hisashi: "Yes, that’s definitely what I was talking about."

Wtf am I doing ranting again, you may ask. I was gonna talk about absolute solver again... but then my brain said "Nah, more nuzi." And who am I to refute that argument?
Spoilers, duh
Yes, how fricking typical. A duo of an emotionally scarred emo girl and a retriever puppy boy that get together. But honestly, after being in the usual angst department shipping for a couple of years now, Nuzi is such a refresher. Not to mention, that despite Liam Vickers focusing his story mostly on lore (LORE THAT I CRAVE AND LOVE), he takes time to include little things like nuzi. Nuzi didn't have to happen, but I'm so glad it is pretty much canon. Makes the dark and unbearably scary moments for the duo... bearable. I could go on a whole tangent about these two, but I mostly want to take note of how N interacts with Uzi. (I might do a post later doing the opposite, analysis of Uzi interacting with N.)
To put it simply, N is soft. Wow, Ginkgo what a revelation! (That was sarcasm) I know thank you. But seriously. When he talks to Uzi, his voice softens. Especially taken notice in ep4 during the Falling... for you? scene. Perhaps I'm just dense, or maybe I wasn't paying enough attention when watching the first time, but when N pulled the "therapy session" I was fully expecting for him to chat to her about the murder spree. How fricking wrong I was. N took me by surprise and asked the question that was ACTUALLY bugging Uzi the entire time. Not the killing spree, not the issue with her solver going haywire, not the backstory of her mother. None of that! It was if she was lonely.
Tumblr media
"No, don't look. I'm gross and eating people and stuff."
"Yeah, we'll figure that part out. But you know that's not what I mean."
After rewatching the Murder Drones like 20 something times, it still baffles me how he talks to her. Softer, more open, willing to admit he's also scared- despite being a fricking disassembly drone, a demon in the eyes of regular worker drones. I can see where that trust comes from.
Uzi's fought and killed N before. But instead of fighting again, she puts blame on humans that "supposedly" made him.
Tumblr media
"Do you really think that the company won't dispose of you, once all the workers are dead?"
Of course, there's way more evidence on how Uzi's comments, mannerisms, and remarks gave N a reason to trust her. There's also something I took notice of. The difference between N's chat with V and Uzi.
In ep3, N is cornered. Uzi and him had a misunderstanding, and V is very hush hush about their past. He has no other place to turn except to V for answers.
Tumblr media
"V, if you're hiding something. We can figure this out together!"
He's open, here. Trying to get answers from out of thin air. Now, don't get me wrong. I love V. V is, by far, my most favorite character in the show. I love her violence, sarcasm, and character growth. But because this was only ep3, she's also trying to do what she believes is for the best. And we see why she was very hush hush about their past. N himself said "Not dealing with this great to be immediately honest." When he first lays his eyes upon the experimentation absolute solver was doing in the mansion. In V's perspective, it's better for N to forget. Ignorance is bliss as they say.
Tumblr media
You can even see that she's guilty in the following frame for what she was about to do- cut N off literally and figuratively. Of course, since then, V has come a long way. Going even as far as trusting Uzi with everything.
But here's the difference.
Tumblr media
"Just avoid another whole spire. Baby steps, together?"
Maybe it's just the moment, maybe it's just simple animation choice. But they made him here uncertain. The same "we can do this together" line, following his attempt with V, is less bright and more uncertain. A question, instead of a statement. He was at least somewhat ready to be shot down again, but instead Uzi met him halfway and took his hand in this big mess. It's these somewhat little moments that build the trust between the two, and what makes Nuzi so wholesome. There's no secret past about them, no big overdramatized misunderstandings. Just two people- or robots- learning how to get through this big mess of the universe ending.
And not to mention that the "together" line comes back to bite on us. The teaser for ep7 and 8 have that line as the last thing we hear.
"...figure things out... together."
I'm probably repeating things people have already said... bite me. I love Nuzi and how they've developed throughout the season. I may be after Murder Drones mainly for lore, but damn me, Nuzi is a really great addition to the entire package.

Unsure if I mentioned this here but I do think Izu and Shig backstory dont make whole lot sense.
Izu wants to be a hero bc...bc why not? I know you said how he may he brainwashed to propaganda but the thing is we dont know for fact. Yes, Izu saw one video of Am saving everyone but thanks to Hori...it seems only Izu is a fan of AM.
And he was abused for no reason. Now, I like heroes who come.from the bottom and work their way up but usually it has a sense, a logic here. For example. Naruto wants to be a hokage but the village hates him bc of the ninetail fox who is sealed in him. Its works as to explain people in the village dont like him and why he wants to be hokage.
Izu wants to be hero bc.....who knows?
Izu is abused bc .....why not?
Shig is the villain of the story. Was taken by afo and trained to be a big deal...except not. Afo gives 0 fucks about shig and seems to loathe Nana for some reason and he ignores Shig.
He let Shig lives in a bar(a seedy one) and we, as a reader dont get Shig. He speaks "I will end all the heroes" but we see him chilling and gamming. Why? Why not?!
He gets an army out of nowhere.
He has no real conviction and all he has is a sad backstory (which I think it is lazy) and a cool power.
Thats it.
I do see Shig in canon as a npc who waits for afo to follow instructions. The part I say it makes no sense is why Shig obeys afo and why he is so dead set in destroy all heroes. Why?
Why not?
And he has no real developement same as Izu but the villain stans love to pick fights with others fandoms to say "Shig is the most complex character ever"
(Legit! I'm not making this one up. Some fans do picked up with the JJK fandom bc of the Shig's speech in the war that was aired at the same volume as a character from JJK who made a speech akin to "I care for my friends")
Izuku wants to be a hero because a mess of things: part of it is he simply wants to help people. Part of it is that he wants acknowledgement from others, to be deemed as 'worthy'. I'd bet actual money that there's more than a few dreams of just being strong for once in his life there as well, as compared to feeling weak all the time, because the costumes we saw in his notebook were as much fantasy (all All Might, all the time!) than anything realistic.
All of these things are things that can be achieved outside of heroism, true, but there is where the propaganda kicks in (along with more than a little learned helplessness, more fantasizing, and so on): Izuku thinks, emotionally, that being a hero is the only way he can achieve them.
It's interesting, because that first chapter shows him putting aside those dreams, so he's intellectually aware of the impossibility of them, among other things, and since he's not an idiot he probably realizes that he can save people without being All Might, but it's clear that's settling for him all the same, and on some instinctive level those facts aren't clicking for him.
In all honesty, Early Izuku's dream of being a hero is just that: a dream. Something unrealistic, something that isn't going to happen.
(And, yes, I realized that with what we've seen of heroism for most of the story, a Quirkless person could actually perform all the various heroic duties as well as most Quirked individuals; that's not the point. The main reason he can't is the systematic prejudices about the Quirkless and heroes that say that they can't, to the point where such a thing is literally unpreceded. On top of that, said prejudices have been used to beat down Izuku so damn hard that he doesn't have the guts to actually try for it, which, again, isn't actually his fault; when the world tell you, 'fuck you for living', over and over and over and over again it makes it hard to do anything, but if Izuku was actually trying for heroism in a real way, he would have been in a lot better shape then he was at the start of canon.)
It's something he realizes, but the point of Izuku's dream of being a hero, for Izuku, isn't about achieving it, per say, it's about getting through the day. It's the fantasy he falls back on when his life is shit and horror and he has no real hope left, that dream of being a hero, of standing next to the greatest of all, All Might! It's not a goal, it's a mental escape.
All of this, of course, rapidly gets complicated for him when he meets the real All Might, who in the span of a few hours both destroys and then reaffirms said dream.
Shigaraki, on the other hand, is a completely different animal. It was complicated, at first, since we didn't actually know what AFO's end game was with him; he did seem to be pushing for him to be an actual successor there for awhile, and him ending up as insane all-destroyer if said plan failed probably amused AFO as a sort of back-up plan.
The thing is with Tomura, though, is he was never meant to actually stand on his own two feet and be a villain properly; he was there there to be AFO's vessel, with some snazzy upgrades. Thematically, he's supposed to exact opposite of Pinnochio: rather than a puppet raised to be a real boy, he's a real boy raised to be a puppet.
The reason why he's kind of a clusterfuck of a person, why he doesn't seem to know how to function normally, why he doesn't earn so many of the things he has rather than having them all handed to him, is because doing all those things right, achieving them, means he'd have a stronger sense of self, a will, a foundation to stand on as a person and a human being.
All For One doesn't want that; he doesn't actually want an heir, he wants an NPC, one who will mindlessly say, 'Yes, Sensei', and hand his body over when the time comes.
For almost the entire story, AFO has kept him in a very controlled environment, feeding him only the information he wants to grow his hate, strong and yet unfocused.... and this, admittedly, is where his plan's logic falls apart, because honestly the idea of, 'If I hate hard enough I can hoover up OFA' is kind of nuts in and of itself, and the idea this guy can no longer feel real emotions is a both a cop out and also nuts, but that is the stated logic of the plan.
I cheerfully ignore late-game stuff for my meta when it feels right, because so much of it is bad, but I'm keeping it here because it puts Tomura's entire situation in perspective in a needed way; I've never felt AFO raising him as his actual heir makes sense because, as you've pointed out, Tomura's situation is fucked up and ineffective for just about anything other than random violence and murder, much less a criminal overlord to rule over all crime and bring down society. His raising doesn't work for that... but at the same time, he also put a lot of work into developing Tomura emotionally, which, for a future vessel that he's supposed to inhabit, sounds.... unideal, to say the least. Giving your future body ideas is exactly the reason AFO is in the situation he's in in canon, after all, so it made me wonder; is he actually going to be his heir? Is this not a trick after all?
Trying to figure out what he/Hori was going for with Tomura is something that frustrated me with MHA for the longest time, you can't even imagine.
But, if he has a reason for that, it clicks: the idea behind how convoluted and bizarre Tomura's situation is is that AFO is threading that line; he needs that raw emotion, he needs it to be grown and to fester in on itself, so he can get OFA, which is something he apparently wants so damn bad he's willing to risk control of his future body over (and yet doesn't count for the emotional requirements...? Honestly, this shit sounds like something the Sith would do in Star Wars (and we know he loves Star Wars) (...or maybe Kingdom Hearts; this honestly gives me some real Terra and Xehanort vibes, if done by a fucking amateur), but Hori is trying to explain why the hate is needed without the Force... badly), but he needs a hate that's hollow, so there's no resistance to him.
Think of Tomura like... a bonsai. A bonsai is a fundamentally unnatural thing for a tree to be, but with careful, careful nurturing, and a lot of time and patience, you can get this tiny tree in a shape no real tree would ever grow into. There's no natural way to have a body that is both strong enough in desire to get OFA and pliable enough to be used to house AFO's mind, so AFO decided to make one instead, carefully growing and neutering him, while making sure he stayed within his designs.
TLDR: the whole point of Tomura's everything is he wasn't actually raised to be a person, he was raised to be a mass of unfocused resentment in the shape of a person (which is why I'm inclined to give him a break the way I do no other villain when it comes to questions like, why don't you do literally anything else to achieve your goals, or why don't you approach things from a less aggressive angle, and so on: the man literally doesn't have any context for that kind of thing.)
(I'm going to digress a little here, because I've complained about how late-game Tomura worked, and yet here, I'm saying that it makes sense. Well, that's the thing: broadly, it works. But, with so many things, both in general and in MHA, the devil is in the details.
If the overall goal was always to make Tomura a vessel, than literally his entire arc after AFO's fall, until the War, doesn't make sense, because he was guided into all these situations, left alone to have confrontations and challenges, often in a controlled kind of way... but the thing is, all of those things helped him grow as a person. This is, remember, the exact thing AFO didn't want, and presumably Garaki knew about that.
This begs the question, then: why did it happen? Why did Garaki lead him to fight again Gigantomachia? Why did Tomura have all this time to roam about on his own, largely unsupervised beyond some doctor given objectives, if they didn't want him getting those pesky ideas?
If the goal was to give him hate, give him a stronger body, then yeet AFO into him, then after AFO fell they should have made plans to do that shit right the fuck then. If he needed to be stronger physically, rather than fighting a giant to get a minion, and again, being out and about, lock him in a training room somewhere and say, 'AFO said so'.
Tomura's situation before AFO fell makes sense for the Hate Vessel idea, mostly. Tomura's situation after AFO falls makes sense for the Heir concept. The fact they did development for the heir idea, only to pivot back into the vessel concept out of nowhere, is why it works so badly for me; they developed his story in the wrong way for that to make sense.)

I feel like the owl house fandom takes things way too srsly esp with ships and preferences on characters. idk I love hunter and amity's backstory and I love luz but I'm more interested in hunter and amity's backstory that doesn't make me racist their storylines are more interesting
So this probably won't be what you expected or asked for but I'm grabbing the opportunity anyway to address some of the ways I think TOH falters from a Storytelling perspective and why I think those issues (as well as how young a lot of the fans are, although when I was 11-13 in fandom I was much more chill and "live and let live" so just shows what a decade can do in terms of fan community) unintentionally perpetuate some of what you mention.
Also don't think you're racist for preferring Amity and Hunter (Hunter, Gus, and Luz are my faves) but I do think TOH has some issues with how it handles its characters of colour, so I am going to touch on that. While I'm white. this is reflected on / verbatim from conversations I've had with Black and Asian friends / fans of the show and how racial stuff can tend to play out in fandom (circa 2013 onwards from personal experience of how people have treated fave characters, like Finn from Star Wars, in the past).
That said, I do still like the show. I love the strong found family, everything surrounding Eda and her allegories for mental health are super solid and important, I'm thrilled by the queer rep (I’m queer & watched Korrasami happen live), and I don't think a show has to be perfect or to check off my personal preference to be good. But I do think the show is... an interesting mixed bag for a few key reasons I haven't seen anyone talk about, so here they are.
Under a read more bc this gets long, like, real long, even though there’s only four things on this freaking list, LMAO. For whoever reads it, have fun!
1. The Owl House writes like first impressions don't matter.
This is one of the biggest things in the show that breaks elements of setup + payoff. After all, if your setup is misleading or unaddressed by payoff later, characters and plot lines may come across as stilted. This also ties into other areas (such as screentime) that I'll touch on later.
By far the character who has broken setup the most, though, is Amity. For example, Amity is introduced as someone who has bullied Willow for years, even when no one else is around (i.e. it's not a pure performance), and even though they used to be friends when they were young. Their friendship fall out / Amity distancing herself from Willow is explained by Amity being forced to by her parents, and understandably struggling with how to deal with and explain it as a child.
I haven't seen the last few episodes of S2 (aka I got up to "Hollow Mind") and I was disappointed in S2A when it seemed like this plot element would never be addressed again. So I was very pleased to learn that there is an episode in S2B that talks about their friendship. Except... it doesn't address the bullying. Because yes, Amity tried to protect Willow by distancing herself... but Amity also didn’t need to Bully Willow, like, at all. Not within the confines of the story and not within the landscape of the character; her parents didn’t tell her to be cruel to Willow. She chose to do that. Repeatedly. And that facet of their bond... has never been adequately addressed. It could be, in the future (but I personally doubt it).
It’s particularly strange, because Luz was 1) canonically bullied in the human realm and 2) perpetually struggled at making friends. It makes sense that she’d be extra against bullies and protective over the friends she does have, and wanting to see real change before bonding with a practical stranger (even if Amity did show a slightly nicer side at the end of “Covention,” it wasn’t an even ratio whatsoever, either of her niceness or Luz’s meanness). But we’ll circle back to this.
We see this issue of initially bad behaviour being overruled, sometimes retconned, or ignored to the point of being rewritten a few more times in the series.
The one that ties into Amity’s character are her siblings. In their debut episode, they have plans to share private pages of their little sister’s diary. This is mentioned in another episode as something they’re trying to make up for, but they weren’t there when shit hit the fan at the library, anyway. So we never see 1) why they were going to be so cruel to Amity in the first place (and I have siblings myself, so no, it’s not a sibling thing, or just a sibling thing), 2) what exactly made them change their mind, and 3) this type of behaviour never reappears or is addressed in the show, either. While Luz gets called a bully for it, the twins get off basically scot free. Yes, they’re obviously affected by their mother, too, but there’s never even a whiff or a hint about why they felt the need to humiliate Amity on a public scale besides thinking she was uptight.
We see this one more time with Darius, which was the most baffling and completely jarred me the first time I watched it. Darius was being cruel and dismissive to Hunter, but warms up when he realizes the kid does have a spine and will stand up for what he believes this. This is not the heart warming moment or message the show seems to think it is. All I heard and saw was an adult going “Oh, this kid is too indoctrinated and abused to be worthwhile until he proves otherwise, I’ll treat him like trash and ignore that I’m exacerbating his symptoms of abuse until then.” And no matter what comes latter, this is a downright weird set up, emotionally.
I’m not saying that none of these characters can be set up this way, but the introduction and how different they are in all other preceding episodes — or even when information is given to re-contextualize certain things — feels like whiplash. So the setup is a little weird, making pay off either non existent or unnecessary. This stumbling block makes the emotional continuity feel disjointed too, in some aspects. The way this affects emotional continuity can best be seen in Gus, Willow, and Luz’s friendship — but again, more that later.
As for set up and pay off, it can lead to missed opportunities, namely: why the hell was Amity Lilith’s protege in Convention? Again, not saying the show is bad or this is a bad writing choice, but it’s a weird one. I remember watching that episode, seeing Amity be introduced as Lilith’s pseudo apprentice, and being excited. It meant Lilith-Eda, Luz-Amity, and possibly the two menor-mentee relationships could all be developed simultaneously! It’d be interesting to see the parallels and differences.
At the very least, it would give a personal stake to Amity and Luz’s possible developing bond, with Lilith at the very least going to disapprove, and give Amity and Luz a chance to compete against each other and to see that progression.
Then it was never addressed again. And it wasn’t set up as a “one day thing” either. It seems that Lilith possibly tutored Amity for months, maybe even years, for Amity to be considered her “strongest protege” (exact line). So we miss out on that possible, episodic but still connected plot line (especially because after Convention, we never see Amity caring a whole lot about actual school, even though that as her whole thing in her intro and second episode). Then, even when Amity and Lilith are back on the same side (imagine how interesting exploring that fracturing could’ve been!) they... never interact, never mention, and never act like they know each other.
They’re two characters with the same theme and similar arcs split down the middle, have an interesting setup, and it goes.... Nowhere.
Because first impressions don’t matter in the show, which is particularly weird, as typically 1) what you set up in the very beginning of the show is what you want the audience to be invested in, and 2) the audience is going to / has to pay more attention in the beginning of a show because they’re actively trying to learn the rules of the world and character dynamics / personalities.
And it’s not the only time TOH does this, so let’s talk about
2. Screentime, Race, and Chosen Diaspora
Specifically that Gus and Willow barely get any, and how this ties into race. So I’ve touched on this before in an article I wrote on Vocal where I share meta-adjacent stuff that doesn’t fit my tumblr vibe, so if for some reason this is your thing, they may be other stuff you enjoy on there, whatever. I’m not gonna repeat myself too much here, but basically:
The majority of the Owl House cast is white, particularly when it comes to who matters in the plot. Eda, Lilith, and their family are all white. Hooty and King exist in what we’re going to call an aracial space, as they don’t have race and aren’t coded as any particular thing, either; just tried and true demons. Hunter is white; Belos is white. Gus and Willow are regulated to background characters and most of the time when Willow is being developed as a character (“Understanding Willow,” “Any Sport in a Storm”) it’s typically also used to further a white character’s growth of... learning to treat her better? Gus fares a bit better, but gets less screentime.
So not only is Luz the only primary character of colour, she’s largely cut off in forming meaningful relationships with other characters of colour, and having those bonds highlighted and given strong screen time (as thus far in S2, every time Gus and Willow have gotten significant screentime, it’s been largely removed from Luz, with her often doing something else with Amity). Remember when “Star Wars: Rogue One” came out, and there were discussions being had of “a lone woman only having meaningful relationships with men and no other women”?
[ Side note: as for the first point, I’m not going to say things I love, like TDP, don’t fall into the “woman surrounded by men” trope for its two main female leads, as Rayla is friends with the boys and was raised by her dads, and Claudia’s primary relationships are also with other men. However, I believe this is mitigated with plot lines like Ellis and Lujanne in S1, as well as Janai-Amaya-Khessa in S2 and particularly in S3, and I think this will only continue to grow moving forward into S4 and beyond ]
At the same time as Rogue One, there were conversations regarding the films status of “people of colour purely as the supporting cast but never as the primary lead”? TOH meets in as a weird hybrid in the middle, with a person of colour as the main lead, but largely surrounded by white people — and this is the case for most characters in the show.
Raine’s main relationship is with Eda. Darius is in the rebellion with them, but his only meaningful relationship on screen in any way is really with Hunter and the past golden guards. Gus and Willow are mostly side characters. We basically never see their families/parents (and know far more about the Blights / Edric and Emira in every way. Gus and Willow ultimately don’t get the time with Luz for me to call their relationship meaningful. This is especially strange, given that often times kids who are bullied (like all three of them are) cling harder to the friends they do have, and that while S1 was better about making Gus and Willow be extremely important to Luz as her First Friends Ever, S2 has dropped the ball even more so.
Luz is like an island, ironically on the Isles and cut off from her cultural community and from other characters of colour even when they do exist in her new community.  So that’s talk about that in full.
Now, there is Luz, who is the primary protagonist (honestly, you could argue Eda is her co-protagonist) and she’s lovely and I love her. However, more than once, Luz’s plot line for an episode is a B plot or less plot relevant compared to other characters (particularly Eda). I touched on this in my Vocal article, but Luz is living in diaspora in the Boiling Isles. Yes, the demon realm suits her much better than Earth largely did, but I would still love to see elements of her culture in ways other than her / her family’s name and her occasionally speaking Spanish. What about holidays, what about missing her mother’s cooking and the cultural connotations it holds?
The show does engage with aspects of the Isekkai genre that are sometimes overlooked, namely Luz being torn between two worlds (and given that she’s mixed, it’s not like the allegory isn’t already there), but it only goes halfway. It only shows Luz wanting to be in the Boiling Isles with none of the possibilities about cultural shock, assimilation, and other aspects that can play into immigrating countries — or realms. I’m not saying the the show not engaging with Luz’s diaspora is a bad thing, but it does feel like a missed opportunity (as most of this is) particularly since they do try to engage with her on a cultural level with her speaking Spanish and writing her as purposefully Afro-Latina and from the Dominican Republic.
But honestly, basically everything I’ve talked about already — occasionally misleading set up w/ a lack of follow through, screentime (both considering and not considering its racial elements) — are all compounded into my biggest issue with the show, however, which are its
3. Disengaged stakes
So while I love Luz, I mostly love her for her personality and sweet hearted nature. I don’t actually love her that much for how she drives the plot forward — even though she does, and even though she’s the protagonist. And this is largely because Luz — and many of the characters — exist in a limbo of what I’m going to call Disengaged Stakes. Basically, they have stakes, but due to a lack of set up, or pay off in regards to emotional continuity (never mind a lack of consistency, i.e. sometimes Eda needs to hide, sometimes she can be flashy in public with zero consequences, sometimes getting caught by guards matters when the story decides it needs a conflict, and sometimes it doesn’t etc) it’s hard to actually be invested in those stakes. At least for me.
For most of S2, this meant I wasn’t really invested in Luz’s efforts to get a portal to see her mom (although this improved when we actually got a singular episode with Camila). It’s clear Luz isn’t going to live full time, if at all, in going back to the human realm. I also wasn’t worried for Camila, as she hasn’t been fearing for Luz this whole time, instead believing things are perfectly fine if not better than they were before.
Let me give you an example, and this was actually pointed out in a youtube review of the S2 finale that helped me put my finger on why it... felt weird as a finale (again, even though I haven’t fully watched it yet, but I have watched the bulk of it).
The four kids are stranded in the human realm, but what does that actually mean, for most of them? For Luz, this carries a lot of weight. She’s spent all season trying to find a way home to see her mother, but is now there under awful circumstances with no way back to the place she actually wants to be. It will also offer Camilla the perfect opportunity to see why the Boiling Isles and her family there is so important to Luz.
But what does this mean for the other three kids? Shockingly little. Like I’ve touched on before, we know nothing about Gus and Willow’s families. Yes, I’m sad they’re separated from them, but I’m sad because generally, kids being separated from their parents is sad. I’m not invested in their specific relationship (same issue I had with Rogue One and Jyn’s relationship with her father, as well). All Luz actually wants, in her core, is to stay in the Boiling Isles. Amity’s relationship with her father is on the mend and her siblings are there for her, but Luz is still clearly the most important person in the world to her, and they’re not separated. Hunter has absolutely nothing back for him in the Boiling Isles, largely, and he’s actually as safe as he can be from Belos’ machinations in the human realm.
So you have four kids tossed into the human realm, and it only really matters for one of them.
This is amplified in their relationships. Willow and Gus rarely have anything beyond interpersonal stakes; Amity had her mother, but now her father has turned over a new leaf, there are no interpersonal stakes any longer for her family (and she radically stood up to her mother very early on in S2 as well). She and Luz have had no problems in their relationship besides very brief miscommunication and Amity’s mother. Amity has hardly any stakes outside of Luz. The characters who are dealing with very high stakes, such as Raine, are largely shuttered away outside of the story — or Hunter.
Dear lord, Hunter. Which, now that we’ve gotten here, let’s talk about what I think could have aided in remedying a lot of these issues
4. Merging
Now I know TOH had to jump through a lot of executive hoops (including the existence and plot relevance of Hexside particularly in S1) so I don’t know what sort of orders came down, or mandates they have to follow but:
TOH has too many characters, and plenty of them could have been condensed as pairs into half as many characters.
I know this, because I went through a similar process of originally having a central group of thirteen characters, and cleaved that shit down to seven. So what are my proposed mergings?
The twins become one character. They more or less are now, fulfil the same purposes and character points as one another (flesh out Amity’s family, tease her and be a listening ear, show their mother’s control, operate as illusionists, etc). Whether it’s brother or sister doesn’t really matter.
Gus and Willow become one character. I would say keep more of Willow’s backstory (w/ Amity), dads, and plant magic alight, as the merged-twin character could substitute as the group illusionist whenever need be. It means that instead of only having splintered individual episodes with Luz or for their development, the small collection would be bolstered and improved marginally. It still wouldn’t fix where screentime or set up fails them, but it would be a significant start. I adore Gus, he’s one of my favourites in the whole show — but he’s less plot relevant than Willow, who is already largely not plot relevant (at least, not outside Hunter’s arc in S2) and we gotta be economical somewhere.
Economical storytelling is when a character, scene, or plot beat is doing at least three things at once, largely — and right now Gus is doing the least, as much as I love my boy, with Willow right next to him. Thus, there we go.
Now for the big, perhaps flat out unpopular one:
Hunter and Amity should’ve been one character. Like the twins, and even Amity and Lilith, they’re largely one theme split down the middle. The show draws intentional parallels between their world views, callousness, and need to be the best due to their abusive families, their strong relationships / connections to Luz, who works to friendship and who are changed by her kindness. There are also less thematic but still overt parallels, like their artificial wands, opposing palismans (bird vs cat), travelling into mindscapes where they uncover secrets. Hell, they both even have a reformed father figure who works with the Abominable coven with a shittier parent who believes in their own superiority at any cost.
Say Golden Guard Amity is enrolled in Hexside — she has to be trained somewhere — and throughout the season we hear her refer to her uncle, who raised her. He just wants the best for her, and for her to be a worthy member of the Emperor’s coven! It’s only at the end of S1 we learn that Amity’s uncle is Belos, and that her growing bond with Luz may be tested in the future. Then, in S2, she has to make a choice between her familial loyalty, ideological defection, and Luz and her friends (who will have more time to be friends, because there are less characters running around). You can even keep the condensed twin as a surrogate sibling mentor — perhaps one of Belos’ more successful grimwalkers, or flat out not a clone at all.
This merger gives Luz and Amity real stakes in their relationship, a higher sense of drama amid the sweet fluffiness, gives more characters more screentime... And amplifies everything that already exists in Amity’s arc. Yes, seeing a quieter form of child abuse from Odalia is worthwhile, particularly for abused children — but as of S2 she’s basically gone full bad guy and has already done so before in early S2, as her abomaton nearly kills Luz in “Escaping Expulsion” so... moot point? Sorta? Is what I’m saying.
It would also, for the love of god, give Amity a solidified reason to dye her hair after she finds out she’s a grimwalker. She wants to reassert her own identity, she wants to be different than her successors while also honouring their good nature, etc etc. Imagine “Hollow Mind” but with Amity in Hunter’s place, and all the weight that would hold for each of them, and for Hunter’s character, now condensed into Amity’s. Also stronger parallels of Belos’ clones becoming less like his brother (because Amity is a girl) over time and with parallels of the implied plot line, of Belos killing his brother because Caleb fell in love with a witch, and it’s happening again, this time just with Luz and Amity, directly.
Basically the only things that would have to change would be a little of S1′s pacing, some of S2′s Blight parent related episodes (so largely two until the finale, which again, Darius or the condensed twin could easily substitute)oOr, to come full circle, you could have Lilith also play a factor, the way she did in Amity’s arc in the beginning. This would provide a greater sense that characters actually had lives and connections and little ship passing in the night moments before Luz showed up, and they would all feel more like!! REAL PEOPLE!!
The only thing that would possibly, likely have to go is Willow’s history with Amity. But given that the show has never really addressed the bullying, perhaps that backstory element would be better left dropped, in general. Amity can be a jerky bully without specifically bullying Luz’s friend for like, 4-6 years beforehand, y’know.
Anyway I will never not believe in the validity of what I call TOH Merger and how it would strengthen basically almost every single aspect of the show, take it or leave it.
Conclusion / Nitpicks
Other notes before we wrap up.
I got bored with just how many episodes relied on the “Character A doesn’t want to fess up to something bc they’re insecure, scared, or trying to look Cool, but inevitably lie and make things ten times worse, and then learn it’s important to be honest” in S1 (hi King, Luz, Willow, and Gus eps respectively).
Amity’s laser character focus on Luz stifles her relationships with both Willow and Gus (as it is more or less non existent outside of a few lines or group scenes); all of Amity’s character growth is largely because of her relationship with Luz, but the same cannot be said for Luz, leaving their relationship lopsided. This is particularly true for me (and is a total personal Aro-spec induced nitpick) and is all the more glaringly obvious considering they barely had one episode where the two were on friendly / friend-ish terms before crush feelings on Amity’s side came in. This makes me feel less invested in their relationship as a whole, as while it’s exceedingly cute, it feels like it’s based on nothing but Crush™ Feelings and that will also be less compelling to me than a strong Foundational Friendship that develops into a crush. I don’t mind that development happening fast, but this was a little too fast in my book.
Final disclaimer: Still like the show, still think it’s good, these are just some of the reasons I don’t think it’s Great. The lack of a Merger will haunt me. Thank you goodnight

Wait omg you like DS9 too right?? Ok if I'm not annoying you could I please request Julian Bashir for 1, 12, 22, & 23 please? THANK YOU I'm done now lol
Yes I do!!!! And you are not annoying!
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
God I just loved him right away. He's so annoying but he cares so much! He's really a good guy he's just kind of obnoxious and it's not really his fault. He's a genius who made one really dumb mistake on a test and will never get over it. He is so good and kind and loving and moral and he never shuts up. I relate to him a lot and I just love him. The popular opinion is he's annoying at first but he gets better later but I don't understand this because it was love at first sight for me.
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
lol so I hate the augment retcon and fanworks have not redeemed it for me and will not and I prefer to ignore it entirely but I will accept that it happened, but there are certain things I absolutely will not allow to be changed by that retcon. So one of my headcanons is that Julian did not choose a remote posting to conceal his augmentations, he did it for the reason he said in the pilot: frontier medicine. He had a genuine desire to make a difference and felt that would be the place to do it and he was also very naive going in, but he grew a lot and did end up making a difference. My other one is that he did not miss one question on his exam on purpose. Yes, it's a ridiculous thing to mix up. That's a very realistic error. That's why he hasn't gotten over it. It's so relatable and so important to Who He Is to me. I also feel very strongly that augmentation or not, even pre-augmentation in post-retcon canon, he is twice-exceptional. The best way the augment thing works for me is if he was basically a mostly nonverbal twice-exceptional kid and the augmentations made him verbal and also athletic etc.
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to this character? Something you don't like?
I don't read a ton of DS9 fics but I guess I like fics that focus on his compassion as a doctor. I don't care for too much focus on the augment thing. I actually did have an idea for a storyline involving it myself, so I'm not completely closed off to fics that deal with it, but I'm also not very likely to read those fics because I am just not interested in it. Anything that leans too heavily on the augmentation explaining everything about him I am not interested in. I'm also not really into the parental trauma aspect of it all. I'm much more interested in his arc after he comes to Deep Space 9 and how the war affects him than I am in his backstory.
23. Favorite picture of this character?
I don't have it saved but that one where he's in his tennis outfit and he's just in the silliest pose.

A Rant About the State of My Favourite Stories
I bet you're all wondering by now why I keep ranting about my annoyances over Helluva Boss instead of just talking about something else. First of all, I should definitely start doing that; there's no point dwelling on this painful abortion of a series/setting when I have other things to enjoy.
But secondly, I was so invested in Helluva - and hence so, so disappointed when it began to fail (both in terms of my expectations and its own continuity) - was because it was something NEW when so many of my interests have essentially stopped growing.
That's not to say they're dead - on the contrary, in many cases they're still alive and kicking - but there's no way I'm invested in what new stuff is being produced. I was really into Star Wars until I realised how badly Disney was destroying it with the "sequel" trilogy and all the horrible retcons, but at the very least I still have the movies, the Clone Wars and Rebels cartoons (yes, I actually liked Rebels) and - if absolutely necessary - the old, confusing but still somewhat interesting Legends continuity (aka the old Expanded Universe), even if it's way too messy for my liking.
Warhammer 40k has certainly become weird since the Gathering Storm, but since the staff at GW put out what essentially amounts to a license to ignore the Primaris marines, Votann and any other botched modern lore I dislike by saying that "everything is canon, but not everything is true", even if that wasn't their original intent, I'll happily take it. And then there's the Horus Heresy if things get REALLY bad.
Doctor Who has certainly declined HORRIBLY since Chinballs took over and politicised everything while destroying the Doctor's backstory, but at the very least I can just ignore everything that came out from 2018 onwards.
And as for the Lord of the Rings (and the rest of Tolkien's legendarium), it was always a static work once Tolkien and his son passed away and so any bad adaptations mean even less than they do in any other context since I can just go back to the books (and Peter Jackson's movies, since they're great).
But all the same, I can't look forward to any new things coming out of the above fandoms besides fan works (except Warhammer) and have to rely on the old stuff otherwise. Not exactly the most ideal situation for a fan of something. So Helluva, which was something entirely new, was genuinely exciting with its worldbuilding and captivating characters (especially a certain pink succubus). This made it all the more painful when it began falling apart since there was no extensive mine of past material for me to fall back on and since the story direction and characterisation has (in my opinion) begun falling apart so (relatively) early in, it will always feel... incomplete to me and I can only rely on my own headcanons and fan materials, which don't feel the same as the canon, botched as it is. Combine that with me being tired of losing most of my interest interest in almost all of my former fandoms and the fact that my favourite character, the only one I've truly managed to make a connection with, is a side character that has way more potential than screen time than Viv is willing to give her, feels genuinely heartbreaking to me. Melodramatic, I know, but that's how it feels to me.
Alright, now that I've said my piece, I'll get back to enjoying the remaining fandoms I have and try to stick to Helluva through the fandom side of things. Who knows, I might even try to tell my own versions of the story someday - I doubt I could do as badly as Viv, anyway. And at least I have video games to enjoy; Metroid and Zelda still have expanding storylines that I don't have to ignore!

West Side Story Fans: Your Attention Please
Since the new West Side Story come out, especially since it's come out on Disney+, there's been an increase of new WSS fans. And normally that would be good, except that most of these new fans are very racist, most of them without even realizing it. Everyone is just focusing on Jets, Jets, Jets, and trying to justify their bad actions towards the Sharks, and thinking 'oh, you know, they've been told they're gonna be nothing all their lives, so that automatically makes them better people'. No. Just, no. The Jets were transphobic for most of the movie, racist for all of it, and did a bunch of other things that you absolutely cannot justify by saying that people told them they would be nothing. Yes, the Sharks also did bad things, but they weren't the ones who started it. They moved to America because they genuinely thought they would have a better life. And while that's partially true for physical things, they certainly did not expect to be tormented by white people just for the color of their skin and their accents. The Sharks did bad things because they were trying to defend themselves, while the Jets did bad things because they were racist and didn't have any other outlet.
Y'all can try and justify the Jets' actions with anything you want, but you can't just ignore that they were shitty to the Sharks and Puerto Ricans in general.
How many Jets can you name? Alright, and now how many Sharks can you name?
My point exactly.
Thank you for your time.

死/// GUIDELINES.
✾ Mun
hello.!! call me taro. my pronouns are they/them, and i am 21+. i've been roleplaying off and on for many years. my waking life is busy, so i won't always be here. i have 5 pets (no cat-dog fights in this house) and a big family. i prefer writing original characters to canon characters. i live in ye olde us of a. there are two things in this world i can't live without: green tea, hot cheetos, and emotionally wrecked men. oh, and i'm nerdy as hell. if you have any questions or just wanna chat/plot, i'm always open.!!
✾ Blog
Content.
i don’t shy away from disturbing/gory/traumatic topics. i don’t see it as a moral failure to write it. however, i won’t write: minor/adult, graphic noncon, and incest outside of backstories and such.
all triggering content will be tagged as ’____ /’, and erotic content will be tagged as ‘nsft /’.
needless to say, this is a 18+ only blog. i will not interact with anyone under the age of 18, 21+ preferably.
the themes i will explore on this blog include suicidal ideation, murder, mass murder, multiple forms of abuse, mental health, personal growth, sacrifice, guilt, death, loss, toxic relationships, and more.
Posting.
all interactions are mutuals only.
i will take my time for serious threads. it may take me a few weeks from time to time to reply to a thread or answer an ask.
i tend towards multi-para, but will do one-liners or simpler, shorter threads.
i regularly delete my OOC posts.
i tend toward inbox memes, so you may see more of those than other things. it's really just because i like to write drabbles most of the time.
Communication.
i’m just a little bit on the awkward & shy side and may have a hard time reaching out for plotting. what i do to mitigate this is generally interact with posts and send in icebreaker asks.
i’ll also reblog plenty of memes, post starter & inbox calls, and my interest check so that there’re always opportunities to get things going.
i love love love to talk about mashing our muses together, so even though it can be hard for me at first, i’m always down to chat
if there's an occasion i don't respond to a message, it's usually because i've fallen asleep, got hella distracted, forgot, am hyperfocused on replies, having health problems, etc. it's never deliberate. please feel free to nudge me.
Shipping.
i love to ship, honestly. i am always down. if you think our muses would mesh well, by all means - please come yell at me! i probably ship it already anyway.
communication but mostly chemistry are needed for romantic shipping, as kaede is a bit of a pain when it comes to this - he’s only easy sometimes, and really the only way for him to 'love' your muse would be if they're just as obsessed with him as he is them.
there are a couple of things i do not consider shipping right off the bat. flirting isn't shipping. hell, i don't even think our muses boning a couple times is shipping. i don't consider it a ship unless we talk about it, basically.
toxic ships are super welcome!
i do not ship minor/adult, except platonically as mentor-student or family.
every ship is in its own universe, disconnected from all others, and i do not treat any one ship as more important than another.
Verses.
this blog is multiverse (working on the page), though jujutsu kaisen will be the primary.
i’m happily oc, crossover, au, and canon friendly, so if you want to do things in a different verse, i’ll make one if i don’t have one already!
Godmodding.
so long as we talk about it before hand or it advances the thread, i don’t particularly care about godmodding or powerplaying. it just has to make sense for our plot.
kaede is strong, but there are others who are stronger - and crueler - and i won’t ignore that if the power scale is such. your muse can overpower mine? dope, they should, actually! besides, he’s a dex build. he’ll put up a good fight, but he’ll probably lose.
Drama/News/Triggers.
i block tags/posts.
if there’s something i don’t want to see, i will simply not see it, no matter what it is, be it the news, internet beef, or things that make me feel like ass for one reason or another. i don’t engage with any of that stuff; i have a personal blog for that sorta thing.
also, i do not have any written triggers & no tumblr post is going to send me down a spiral. i’ve been through a lot, but i’m a ‘power through it’ type, so even if i do see something, it’s ultimately whatever.
Kaede.
this is a small disclaimer.
i’m not caught up to the manga by any means, so there may be some things i don’t know or will get wrong - please let me know if something doesn’t gel quite right.
please note that i put him together carefully so he wouldn’t interfere much with jjk’s main plot, though i’d be happy to plot something out.
as kaede will ever be a work in progress, his about page is subject to change. all abilities and techniques are accumulative and an attempt at originality
i will apologize in advance for kaede being a complete brat at times, as he is a bit emotionally stunted and struggles particularly hard with forming solid relationships, be they platonic or otherwise. there's a lot of fear there for him.
Inunaki.
you’ll see mentioned in a few places something called ‘the inunaki incident’. it’s about the mid-point of kaede’s personal storyline, and is a hefty bit of mixed character development i’m saving for a later date - fair warning: i’m a big fan of tragedies. i do have a posted timeline for his life (mostly just summaries), and i will be going over parts of it in the future. ultimately, the plan is to answer the questions: do i have the strength to keep going anyway? is my sacrifice worth the consequence? was this unavoidable, or could i have done something to change it? how much guilt and responsibility can one person assume before it utterly destroys them? i have fun seeing how many different ways i can answer them.
Credits.
i like to draw, sometimes a lot - but i am notoriously horrendous with most poses, so i end up using/relying on references - which i very ardently do not claim as my own. some poses i reference belong to kate-fox on dA, however i also use personal photographic references (pictures i’ve taken myself), anime/video game screenshots, and, on occasion, porn, as i cannot draw the human body or faces from memory (combined visual processing + memory issue). where i can afford it, however, i do commission artists instead - in fact, i much prefer it. all graphics were arranged by myself; likewise, kaede’s faceclaim belongs strictly to mangaka yanase seno. i also have commissioned art of him done by @okaerin, which serves as my current dash icon! icon borders by @paletterph

📓 📓 📓 Go off king tell the world even more about this silly little AU of ours
Ah, wouldja look at that, my darling mate is awake~ This is why I can't be mad at my sleep schedule being this comically awful. I get to say good morning to you and send you off to work with a kiss like you always do for me! ;O;
The question is, are there any fics in my spreadsheet that you don't know about??? I don't think there is! I think In Observation was the only one I added that you didn't know about already? Uhm, I did just notice I had to update What Could Be's status and pitch, because Angel never does become the court sketch artist, and it was always meant to be their first date and we RPed that, so I just gotta back it up.
So I think this works best as "what ideas do I have kicking around that I've forgotten to tell you about that I'm sure you'll help me brainstorm into actual fics that will go in the spreadsheet until I write them", so how about I just bullet-point a list and we find out what happens.
I have that Shieldsworth smut fic I haven't titled nor finished. I should do that. I am taking title suggestions.
I really want to write the Sagiverse version of The Inherited Turnabout / the entirety of AAI2, because it features Marlis and Marni way more, and Ray gets to be cursed the entire time. Sagiverse!Ray is so different from canon!Ray that his existence alone will change stuff, so I wanna write that together.
Obviously, we need to write the Elderqueer's Aethelian trip, and the four really reclaiming their draconity. This will happen after I sit down and worldbuild the shit out of the Aethel. I am requesting / begging / asking very nicely for all your high-fantasy concepts and ideas that haven't been integrated into something, because the Aethel is like twenty realms and I intend on going off the shits, so we're gonna yes-and rule of cool. I established in I think The Deafening Distance that some of the bridges in Ilya Alyve's highways are just straight up mushroom concrete. Also, titles and ideas of what they're doing along the way. Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if we write this sometime this summer? It might actually be part of Mangoes, now that I think about it, it would be really fitting??? Yeah, okay, I think this is just one of the major plotlines of Mangoes. Lmao. xD
We really gotta sit down and plot out both the Imma and Amaryllis arcs... I say, knowing full well that doing the Imma arc requires sitting down and writing MvK & Addie vs the German Narrators not once but twice and also the Narrator Revolution, and doing the Amaryllis arc means plotting and probably coding three Heroes Infinity games, which requires the timeline, which requires the Infini12 storyline and also Willow's backstory. We could probably do the Imma arc soonish, because it's not so dependent on the Revolution + the German Narrators that we have to rewrite it the moment we do those, but let's be real with how much story we gotta dig into, I'll be amazed if we get to the Amaryllis arc by our wedding. xD Not that I'm complaining! I am looking very much forward to getting to write all this together!!!
See, now I really want to dive directly into Heroes Infinity again, because like, Mia, Diego, Willow, Dahlia, and Marni (and Ray as a bonus) being there changes the story so goddamn much. This immediately brings to mind the scene where Vitta is just yelling at Kaden for stealing the MEWS serum, except she immediately turns around and sees Marni ignoring her health problems, considers going and joining the Legion, sees Willow doing the exact same shit, and then goes back to the Heroes because Kaden is less bad than these two, and that's without her finding out about Ray who is literally only alive because the curse refuses to let him die. I gotta finish Kominting on Blueberries + Apricots before I plunge into Kominting on the HI drafts, but I am so excited to see how throwing some Lawyers into the mix changes things. Mia and Diego parenting the Connors-Shermans Edgeworth-Armandos is gonna be so good, and it not saving them is going to be so angsty and so good. So good. ;O;
Also I forgot until just now but you know Ehaelos? The guy I was bitching about not being able to picrew because he's Black and has red hair? Apparently he only wasn't Miles' advisor at Kensington because Miles really wanted to wingman Marlis. That's fucking hilarious. Miles Edgeworth really did say that wingmanning his sister was more important than his necromancer education and I choose to believe that this is the only trait he retained from MvK, who kinda was That Guy. Objectively, this is the funniest trivia fact in Sagiverse, right next to Raykath.
I really, really want to write the fic of Marlis saving Willow on the ghostroads, because it's also the fic of Atticus saving Marlis and Hannelore being conceived, but like, all of the characters involved save Willow are usually yours to POV from, so I may pass this one onto you, but either way we gotta write it my dude, we can't just Not.
One of these days I will write I Live for Glitter, Not You and it is going to be the objectively funniest fic I've ever written, and then right after it, I will write Hold On Through the Night and we'll get to see drunk Miles angsting over Charley and Larry egging him on, and that's that on that.
Also I found out tonight that during Fight the Good Fight, Miles realizes that Carter knew who Ray was (because he referenced him so heavily in The Last Star of Morning) and promptly summons him and then punches him in the face. He conveniently forgets that Carter couldn't have told him due to the curse, and then has to be restrained so he doesn't punch him again. Because if he does then Ali will kick him in the balls, and Ali kicking Miles in the balls only ever ends in Atticus grounding everyone involved.
Which reminds me. We've gone over Carter and Simon's arc exclusively in quotes. We should, at the very least, turn these into Audiomance recordings and make them into a proper fic. Because otherwise they will never see the light of day and we can't torment Tsuko with them. I feel like if we actually let anyone into the quotes doc we'd die, so we should formalize those and sic them on our friends. I dunno if their arc changes enough to warrant rewriting the canon cases (there are So Many Other things we gotta write and we only have two fucking thimbles to move this ocean with ;~; ) but I do wanna get those all fancied up. That would be great. I love them so much. ;O;
I'll let you in on a funny little secret that you're going to think is absolutely cringe, because I'm looking at the spreadsheet trying to figure out where my train of thought went. You know why I haven't finished Different Worlds, Same Old Moon? It's only halfway because my smut muse is super iffy. It's mostly because the phone in Atticus' apartment is in the hallway, and cell phones were not invented in '71, and it's a far enough stretch of suspension of disbelief to say Atticus rerouted the office phone to go to his home phone after hours, which means Ray has to go pick up the phone from the hallway. Hard to do with what they're doing at the moment, so I was originally like "he just picks him up and keeps doing that with Atticus on his shoulders", but that doesn't work, and you know why? You wanna know why? Because no fuckin hallway ever is going to be tall enough that they can do that, unless Atticus' shitty downtown L.A. apartment in 1971 has comically high ceilings, which it fuckin wouldn't, and thus my ability to write crashed and burned. Once I circumvent this incredibly difficult problem, I will be able to keep writing and hopefully finish it. But I have not doing that, and thus I have writer's block. These are the things that stop me from writing. I must have historical accuracy or I will die. This is the real reason why I need the timeline. I'm pretty sure Hanne and Trucy don't actually have Switches. They meet Ray in 2001. They have Gameboys. They might have played the original Animal Crossing if it was out by then, but certainly not the newer ones. Now, it's entirely likely that we can chalk the Nintendo Switch coming out twenty years earlier to Tails, which would be funny as hell, but we gotta establish this one way or another or otherwise I will die.
Dear god I want to write some fic with Bex, Wolf, and Aingel. But that requires dealing with the Heroes of Kharos, and their storyline is something I really know fuckall about, and I know we're not circling back to that until the Brainrot calls us back to Sonata. Which will happen, but probably after we jump back into Heroes Infinity, so like, I totally wanna do it Right Now but we have two fucking thimbles. I wish Diego did have the power to control gravity and make the world stop turning. Then maybe I could fling the thimble faster and write all of this all at once. I want to stick an extra 32gb of ram directly into my brain. Help.
And I have to end it there because uh. Tumblr. Tumblr what.
Tumblr media
Aight, I guess tumblr wants me to go to bed. xD See you in the morning, my lovely, please tell me your thoughts!!! ;O;
[send me a book emoji and I'll tell you the premise of a fic I haven't written yet]

Amazon or Netflix want to adapt Blood of Gods. Assuming you have complete creative control what would your requirements be in order to make it a product that is up to your ideal standards?
Ooh, what an interesting question! Here are 11 things that come to mind, in no particular order:
Really good costumes and sets, but especially costumes. They don't need to look exactly like how I describe them in the book, but they do need to be beautifully made to represent the different cultures, classes, and religions of the setting, as well as the general opulence that it should bring to the story. Since Blood of Gods is a very "grounded" fantasy, a good background in historical fashion would be good.
On that note: the creators should have a respectable knowledge of the history surrounding the real-life events that Blood of Gods takes inspiration from. (Namely, the Crusades and the treatment of Jews in medieval/renaissance Europe in general.) I wouldn't want the cultural inspirations to be wiped away.
Do not woobify Lucius! YES he has a tragic backstory YES he's canonically handsome YES he is capable of great unselfish love for someone and YES I know that I've probably set up the perfect environment for villain stans. That's fine, I just wouldn't want any adaptation to be colored by that. All of his many atrocities should be depicted as what they are. Ashala shouldn't be made to look unnecessarily petty for hating him.
I think Blood of Gods would work best as either a live-action movie or limited mini-series. It's a standalone book, so there's really only so much story there to be adapted unless the story was extended beyond its ending in the book, which I really wouldn't want.
Oh yeah, on that note: DON'T FUCKING WITH THE ENDING. If you even LOOK at the ending I'm going to stomp you to death with my hooves. This is probably the most important point on this list. Some of my first draft betas didn't like my ending. That's fine! It's not what I'd expect to be popular. But I'm very firm on the fact that the ending I have (in all its glorious uncertainty) is the ending that is right for the story, and I'm not changing it.
The showrunner/director would probably have to be a woman. Sorry! Obviously exceptions could be made based on the individual, but I'd just trust a woman to handle the heavily female main cast and the large sapphic element much better.
Speaking of: keep all the gay stuff in! And don't try to make it PG-13! Ashala FUCKS and that's that on that!
Generally actors should at least somewhat resemble their characters. You know the drill. They should not be casting some bombshell to play Ashala and they should not be casting a twig to play Vesta.
All the actors need to be good, but Vesta's actress needs SERIOUS range. Not only because Vesta is a very complex character who goes through probably the heaviest amount of character development over the course of the story, but because ideally she'd also play Amata in flashbacks. Amata is a very, very different character, and it would be easy for a lesser actress to ignore her depth.
Do NOT make Ashala any more physically "badass" than she is in the book. She is LAME! She's a LOSER! A younger modern AU Ashala definitely walked the mile in gym class, okay? Yes she's technically a knight but she didn't earn that position through meritocratic means. Plus, long-term lack of access to sufficient food has probably done some irreparable damage to her body. I know that it's hard for Hollywood to wrap its head around, but it is possible to have a powerful female character who isn't necessarily powerful physically.
I've seen a couple others mention chemistry tests for actors, and I'll second that for any Blood of Gods adaptation. As I've said in other posts, a major theme of the story is forbidden love. If the audience cannot believe that certain characters are in love, then a huge part of the story falls apart
Aaaand that's all I can think of off the top of my head. In all honesty, I'd never expect BOG to be adapted, even if I can get it published. Sapphic stuff just doesn't seem to draw a large crowd when it comes to Hollywood, and as I said before I doubt my ending is going to be overwhelmingly popular. I doubt it would be as expensive as some other fantasy adaptations (magic plays a very minimal on-page/screen role) but due to the exotic setting, it still would probably need a decent budget that I don't think Hollywood would ever throw at something like this.
Whatever. Enough moping. This was fun to think about.

Meanwhile you, a grown ass adult, is a die hard shipper of a child and her cherished adult guardian, using the excuse of sHe GreW UP, well, ofc children grow up and get married, have kids, but not when it’s with a trusted adult they know and relied on who saved their life multiple times. Yall hide behind IT’s a CaRTooN, keep deflecting and reaching and ignoring, fiction does affect reality And this terrible anime is being targeted at kids in Japan, not to AdUlts.
-remembers watching School Days when i was young and that time i became a crazy deranged stalker and murdred a guy when i was 15 bc, except i didn't bc my parents raised me with morals-
-remembers that i used to really like a student/teacher ship when i was a high schooler, but never found anything appealing about that real life and knew it was bad when that shit happened bc my parents actually raised me to understand right from wrong and what predatory adults are-
man i just like it because it's like, straight out of a fairy tale. ya know, down on her luck orphan gets saved by an immortal monster, forms a bond with them, falls in love later? that's why i like it! that's all! and because it's canon and produced one of my favorite characters ever! ok it's good now that we have
i know this might be hard for you to understand, but:
Children are not as stupid as you are.
i do not necessarily agree with many other proshippers about the extent of fiction never affecting reality (propaganda specifically, things that are specifically meant and designed to install morals) because it's take i can't fully agree with; when cartoons intentionally try to install morals about race, sex, gender, etc.
and then there's a cartoon that has a ship as backstory. it's not even the main focus. nor do even i wish for it to be, because this is a story about the yashahime, not their parents. i do not fear people will watch Fruits Basket and think such relationships in the real world are OK either.
kids are smarter than you give them credit for. as long as they are raised properly, with love and guidance, instead of just letting the internet and tv dictate everything they should feel and do. people's very hearts and feelings can change of things they read and become attracted to, yes- such things are what authors and writers strive for! for words to become so impactful they can even touch people's very hearts! and of course, many install our own emotions and beliefs into our words.
But, it is not their job to teach you and your children right from wrong.
Children, teenagers, are smarter than you give them credit for. They are capable of enjoying things while knowing that real life does not reflect this way. I understand this might be hard for terminally online idiot who let their morals be determined solely by whatever you've read or watched, but I'm fairly confidant no girl is going to grow up thinking they should fuck a 900 year old dog demon that saved their life when they were like 9 because they happened to watch Yashahime as a teen.
I'm sorry you lost all your brain cells growing up. Fiction can affect our perceptions in reality when efficiently used and utilized to this purpose, indeed! But not in this way you think it is. Not in this sense of "Oh, someone watched an anime with an agegap once, now they'll think it's OK forever!"
I'm sorry you lost all your brain cells growing up, ooooor your parents are doing a shit-ass job at passing on morals to you. Regardless; it's not this cartoon's fault for that.

i saw ur tags donnievan and I raise you: Roman as lance, logan as pidge, pat as hunk, Thomas is shiro, janus would definitely be keith okay I just get the same vibes. sue me. remus is Veronica bcs I say so and my boy virge is allura and u KNOW I'm gonna want that sweet sweet platonic anarociet okay - boop (why are all of the AUs we come up with have some level of rociet lol)
L I S T E N okay i agree but also i made a whole plot in my head so i shall PRESENT IT and it got way too long bc i kept having ideas so its under the cut aldkalfla
okay okay logan as pidge and patton as hunk yes agree (smart patton rights!!! platonic logicality rights!!!) but then VIRGIL as lance (so he pilots blue & red), roman as allura bc PRINCE & pilots blue, remus as keith so pilots red & black, and janus as shiro so pilots black. my reasoning is i want roman to be the Prince TM and want janus to be shiro aldkaldl
and basically janus was the one captured by galra (along with logan’s sibling and father if we follow voltron canon lol) but instead of his arm and the nose scar he’s blind in one eye and has a scar yknow on the left side of his face
and the fact that he’s the leader and pilots the black lion causes ISSUES bc of dramatic backstories or smth (except remus bc remus always trusts jan) but eventually they ALL learn to trust each other and teamwork and all that
and then janus gets sucked into the black lion’s consciousness or whatever and REMUS has to become leader and this causes ~tension~ between the twins bc first of all, remus is super sad that his best friend is gone again and then roman’s like i’m a prince!! am i not worthy enough to be chosen? but eventually he does tell remus he believes in him and that gives remus the confidence to pilot black and lead
virgil is like “ohmygod i dont want to change lions thats such an extreme change” but actually he vibes with red just as much as he vibes with blue just in a different way
so then roman finally DOES get to pilot a lion, the blue lion.
meanwhile we have logan who is trying to find his family, and he is afraid to show big bursts of emotion bc the last time he did was when he angrily lashed out at the garrison people after kerberos bc he was convinced his family wasn’t actually dead it didnt make any sense—
and then logan and remus (who also hates the garrison and thought they were covering up smth about janus’ death on the kerberos mission) have a bonding moment. or maybe even a Bonding Moment. whichever
also Strong Patton. he is an engineer and he is the strongest one of all of them i dont take criticism
but also i like ur platonic anaroceit vibes so MAYHAPS before janus goes missing like at the end of season 2, he and roman and virgil FINALLY start getting along, and then janus disappearing really messes everyone up.
and when they find/rescue janus again (and ignore the whole clone thing bc thats too complicated for me) they just have a big hug and tell him not to EVER DO THAT AGAIN and jan kinda thought they still didnt like him so then they proceed to be the Ultimate Besties forever after that
idk if roman should be like. the altean who was already in space OR if roman should come from earth but then plot twist he’s part alien (kinda like keith finding out he’s part galra) ((actually thats interesting if we keep remus as part galra bc then remus is part “evil” alien and roman is part “good” alien hmmmm the parallels....))
and if we’re going the klance route then that means it would be dukexiety which COULD be cool tbh. or we can change it bc in this scenario their personalities dont even completely line up anyway lolol
can you tell i thought about this extensively...i saw that post and immediately started thinking about this aldkaldla

Okay so Fire Emblem anon here!! Here's a Kinda Super Long Bc I Got Carried Away description of a few Fire Emblem games, plus some characters that seem like they hit tropes you like!
The good news is that there's not a super huge overarching timeline, there's several smaller timelines that are seperate from one another except for the crossover games. I'm gonna go with describing the newer ones that you're most likely to be able to get your hands on and play; a lot of people complain that they lean into some anime-tropey stuff and are too easy, but tbh, that's a perk just as often as it isn't. Basically, it's Game of Thrones, but rated T and with more cute girls and old men who are friendly instead of creepy.
Tbh, it's a turn-based strategy game with visual novel elements for characterization, if strategy games aren't your thing and you're just interested in the characters, watching the support conversations on Youtube might be more your thing. All the characterization, none of the resetting the same goshdang level thirty times. Anyways, description of the games in passing, including a brief description of the plot concept, pros and cons, trigger warnings, and some characters you might be interested in if you're just looking up characters.
*line break for legibility*
Awakening: for the 3DS. Follows Robin, an amnesiac mage, after they're found in a field by a band of knights called the Shepherds. Involves the undead, a twink in a mask, timey-wimey shenangians, and the usual cast of oddballs you'd expect from a Fire Emblem game.
Pros of Awakening: customizable player character, intro of Casual mode (turns off permadeath) and the Pair Up system, which lets you put characters together for shipping reasons strategy and stat boosts. Also doubles as a shipping simulator, since you can pair off characters and meet their later in the game due to said timey-wimey shenangians.
Cons of Awakening: there are some....very concerning combos of names/skin tones/plot relevance for certain characters, so go in with a warning about implicit racism. Also if you like strategy games, this game is relatively easy to break and make "too easy," but tbh that's what Lunatic Mode (the Ultra Unfair Hard Mode) is for.
Trigger warnings across the main plot: underhanded politics, attempted assassinations, martyrdom, an optional character is implied to stalk Robin but idk how to tag that, identity crises, conflicts within a family, character who isn't you looks like you, backstory child abuse, an optional character is a bad portrayal of DID if you squint?
*line break for legibility*
Fates: is actually a group name for two games set in the same universe, and a DLC bonus story: Birthright, Conquest, and Revelations. All for the 3DS. All three games star Corrin, a pacifist raised in seclusion in the kingdom of Nohr. Each game reflects a different path Corrin can take in navigating the war between the nations of Nohr and Hoshido: Birthright has them stand with Hoshido, Conquest with Nohr, and Revelations has them strike out (nearly) alone. Each path has a completely different storyline, cast of characters, and difficulty curve.
Pros of Fates: honestly, the characters here cater the most to the avid pro-shipper and multi-shipper. I just love this cast. Both Nohr and Hoshido have four members of the royal family you can play and get to know, each of those royal family members has two retainers who are various levels of dedicated and/or unhinged, and the cast just widens and widens. Also a character customization and shipping simulator point for the same reasons Awakening gets it. Also, canon fujoshi rights (there's a character with a skill called Daydream, which boosts her stats when two male characters are paired up near her. one of us, one of us). Also the first game with canon queer characters: both Rhajat and Niles are bi.
Cons of Fates: unfortunately, the writing is kinda rushed or badly translated in some places. Also *shakes IntSys* my lore! Give me more lore! Also, iirc, you could get both physical games in a bundle for a discount when they came out, but not anymore, so it's sorta like Pokemon with version exclusives. Which is less fun, since you can't directly trade characters. Also the fandom for this game is RIFE with discourse, which is kinda sad bc I just wanna talk my ships with ppl sjxhdjdn
Trigger warnings for Fates: child abuse might as well be Nohr's middle name, in-universe racism (since Hoshido is p obviously Japan-inspired, and a lot of Nohrians are rancid to Hoshidans), kidnapping, on-screen murder, lots of fighting your loved ones (on both main routes, you gotta fight the playable characters from the other side AAA), su-c-de, death of sibling(s) in certain routes, demonic-like possession, there's like six characters people can read as bad mental illness rep, Niles especially is discourse bait for being a kinky (yes that's canon) bi man of color but also he's awesome so die mad antis
*break for space*
Shadows of Valentia: for the 3DS. A remake of Gaiden, the second game in the series. Follows Alm, a farm boy from a small village in Zofia, and Celica, his childhood best friend. Zofia and the nation to its north, Rigel, are two nations ruled by the dragon gods Mila and Duma, respectively. Normally, they're in equilibrium, but Rigel is invading and Mila is missing, prompting Alm and Celica to independently investigate the problem.
Pros of SoV: the most like the old-school Fire Emblem games, but it also has the permadeath-off mode. also the first to be fully voice acted! The art style is gorgeous, and the plot was polished up from the old game--two characters names Berkut and Rinea were added, and they are PEAK OTP the diskhorse can die mad. Also the cast is pretty fun all around, from buddy squad and the older brother/dad figure they adopted along the way to "hello this is my gang of childhood friends, we're gonna kill a god" Also introduces Mila's Turnwheel, which lets you rewind your moves if you realize you goofed big time and screwed yourself over.
Cons of SoV: has the most references to other games, but you won't, like, be lost if you don't get them. You just might have a few interludes of "who tf is Camus/the White Wing Brigade/etc" but it's easy enough to look up on the wiki. Also tbh, the plot kinda drags in the middle, there's some filler battles to try and make it feel more realistic and it feels...weird. Also no custom character, you are Alm and Celica and you will Like It.
Trigger warnings for SoV: you know that thing where a girl character gets killed off for a guy character to angst over? the game starts with a fakeout version of that. also a character slowly goes mad over the course of the plot (but it's really well done imo?), there's some self-sacrifice stuff in there, classism is a major theme, possession/selling your soul™, there's a couple of levels where you're exploring tombs/prisons, I'm sure there's something else but I'm forgetting right now
*line break for legibility*
Three Houses: on the Switch. The newest game in the series, and the most polished imo? Stars Byleth, a wandering mercenary turned teacher at the Officer's Academy. The Academy, housed in Garreg Mach Monastery, teaches youths from across the land of Fodlan how to be warriors, commanders, and knights. Students are sorted into three houses based on their country of origin: the Black Eagles are from ghe Adrestian Empire, led by the heiress-apparent Edelgard; the Blue Lions are from the kingdom of Faerghus, led by prince Dimitri; and the Golden Deer are from the Leicester Alliance, led by Claude, grandson of the Duke. You choose one of these houses to lead, and then everything quickly goes sour.
Pros of Three Houses: It's such a rich experience! The music is incredible, there's so much lore, and you can wander around the Monastery and hang out with the students to your heart's content. Also, it's four storylines for the price of one, even if they're all relatively similar in the first half. It does a pretty solid job of weaving together its themes into a satisfying narrative that will make you consider everyone involved. Also we got our first bi main lord (Edelgard) and non-white main lord (Claude is mixed race) in one fell swoop! Also, given the setting, it's teacher/student ship heaven.
Cons of Three Houses: just gonna come right out and say it: one of the villainous factions in the game is pretty substantially tied up with some anti-semitic tropes. There's no way to ignore it, it's just bleh, and I'm not gonna send anyone in without that warning. Also, though there's some characters you can persuade to switch sides, or spare, there's no route where there's a happy ending for everyone. Also there are so many people who are fake deep about the themes of the game, so be ready for the worst takes imaginable about your faves. also super trigger heavy, see below.
Trigger warnings: MANY. Garreg Mach and the Church of Seiros are very reminiscent of catholic religious stuff, for anyone with religion triggers, blood in cutscenes, death of a parent, death of a sibling (different characters), major gaslighting vibes in some places, lots of people going unhinged, some white savior™ vibes in places, body horror, creepy ass weaponry, backstory genoc-de (mostly not related to the anti-semitism), blood magic (definitely related to the anti-semitism), in general it goes to a lot more effort than the other games to make you think about what's Actually going on, even if it doesn't always work.
*break for legibility*
As for characters you'd like, if you just want to look some characters up, my recommendations based on what I understand about you include:
Awakening: Libra fits 'gnc man of the cloth' so well it's actually a conversation in game: "so what's a woman of the cloth doing here?" "...man, sir, man of the cloth." And Then He Never Gets Misgendered Again. Also Nowi's supports sometimes feel like a jab at antis-- she's a manakete, a person who can transform into a dragon. Manaketes also grow really slowly, as in "middle aged looking manaketes are like 1000 years old," so she's got major baby face and copes with being mistaken for a teenager by making jokes. Also Gregor, who she first appears with, is pretty fun--older mercenary with a thick accent who is like 80% here for a good time. Also Walhart, who's a villain but got some content added as DLC.
Fates: any interactions between Corrin, Leo, and/or Camilla are probably right up your alley--Camilla is obsessively protective over her siblings in a way that's Very Definitely Platonic™, and Leo also canonically has a crush on her in something that was cut in the English release. Also Gunther--once upon a time he was your classic knight in shining armor, now he's semi-retired, Corrin's personal guard, and covered in scars (and his voice is gorgeous too)
Echoes: my biased answer is to listen to every single line Ian Sinclair read for Berkut because he absolutely did NOT have to go that hard. My actual answer is to point you in the direction of the pegasus sisters Catria, Palla and Est, or maybe the older gentleman who's the head of the Priory, I forgot his name oops abbdbd. Also Clive is a devoted husband to one Mathilda, who looks just like an older version of his sister Clair 🤔
Three Houses: knowing you, you'd adore Hanneman--an older professor who's extremely passionate about his work, to the point where he tends to forget personal space and such. Also Seteth, like I mentioned before (join me in simping for him and his gorgeous pecs) and like, honestly, I know ppl make jokes about Alois but he's rlly good. Soft, awkward but he doesn't care, dad jokes everywhere. And also Mercedes, both because she's the biggest sweetheart imaginable and everyone should love her, but also bc she is just walking potential for the kinds of stuff you post on this blog. On one hand, she's the oldest student at the Academy and attached at the hip to one of the youngest, Annette (tho people act like they have a way bigger age gap then they actually do) and on the other hand, she has a long-lost half brother she can encounter (who I will not name for HUGE HUGE spoilers reasons) who she spends the rest of her life with in one of her endings. Heck, he has three possible endings total! Total!
Basically I brought the games up bc I'm used to being on the side of the fandom where everyone shoos anything uncomfortable under the rug, but there's so much material here that's being wasted I SWEAR
If you have any other questions I can send another anon? Your call! Thanks for hearing me out I love ur blog :3
OKAY!!! sorry for answering so late, but this ask was pretty much a BOOK (not that I´m complaining though! thank you so much! ;;u;;)
and from what I read here, I THINK if I´m going off on my first fire emblem adventure, I´ll try and pick up three houses if I get the chance! I have read your trigger warnings (thank you so much! ;u;) and I think I can take it! >:3
again though, I am really, really not a fan of anime and the anime artstyle in general (blergh! XP) so I´m not sure how I´ll cope with that in particular, but then again, an artstyle does not make a game! u3u
AND HANNEMAN SOUNDS LIKE A WINNER TO ME!! I looked him up and OOOF!!! he may not have NEARLY as many wrinkles as I´d like him to have, but the facial hair is definitely a step in the right direction! ;3c
NOW YOU GOT ME INTERESTED!!
LETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!! (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

In my previous post I'm not talking about the characters themselves but for the writing of the characters. The characters don't take decisions, the writers do it for them. Jadzia may not have choose command but the novel writers would have do it. Ignoring canon or having a head canon is what I do too but in discusions we need to have a universal comon ground & that is the on screen canon. All I'm saying is that the writers should have given more thought to the characters not take the easy way.
One more thing to make myself clear. I’m not blaiming Ezri or Jadzia if something doesn’t feel right, on the contrary I’m blaiming the writers for not making it work. I mean, they could have tried to explore the counsel aspect of Ezri, they could avoid make Ezri the object of affection of Quark and Julian like Jadzia. What I mean is that I don’t agree with fans who hate Ezri b/c she “replaced” Jadzia but I wish the writers would put more efford to not give the fans a ground to think it ws that.
Rereading your previous ask I realized I misunderstood what you were trying to say, and I’m sorry for that. Let me try again.
You’re right that we all have to consider the canon material, I’m not disputing that. However every one of us can look at canon and take different interpretations out of it: I do that a lot for characters I like, I give a different spin to what’s presented on screen, trying to decipher motivations and feelings that might not be evident at first glance. Ezri is no exception. To me canon is always the foundation, and even when I don’t like it I try to make sense of it, maybe turn it on its head until it does. In the previous ask I described how I tried to make sense of all those parts of canon I don’t particularly like.
Could the DS9 writers have put more effort in writing Ezri? Yes, definitely. But imo this goes for basically every female character in the show. If I had to list all the sexist writing on DS9 I would have to write for hours. While ideally I would want to see more about Ezri I also think that what we got is par for the course given that she was there for just one season, and the final one too. Plus it’s well known that Star Trek writers abhorred psychology, so I’m frankly grateful we didn’t see Ezri spouting more freudian clichés (because that’s what we would have gotten if they’d tried to delve into her profession). So yeah, they could have done better, but they could have done better with Jadzia too: so many of her episodes could’ve been better written, and her backstory so much better developed.
Honestly, I think most of the people who hate Ezri just aren’t interested in watching the parts of the show she’s in, no matter the writing. They’d hate Ezri even if the writing had been perfect, because she’s young and confused and makes mistakes, and is not Jadzia (and also because she ends up with Julian). I’m not asking anyone to start stanning her, but there is so much in canon that is incredibly interesting about Ezri. I spent the last 18 months talking about it almost every day. This is just the nature of Star Trek, there’s so much of it that honestly crap, but we’re still here finding meaning in these characters. In my opinion Ezri shouldn’t be an exception. I understand being hurt by Jadzia’s death (as if I wasn’t still thinking about it!) but the hate Ezri gets is just unwarranted, writing or no writing.

for the dnd meme, i'm gonna send you the same prompt someone else sent me: prime numbers!
2. Your favouritecharacter that someone else has played.
My favourite character was probably Pax! Her player is nolonger around because Reasons, but I still love Pax. She was hilarious and anabsolute delight, top-quality belligerent homeless drunkard with more arms (four)than brain cells.
Favourite character who is still active is maybe… Glitz??That’s a really hard choice because I particularly love the entire Navarenegroup, the Glitz-Levin-Aradi trio is super fun for me to watch interacting becausetheir personalities bounce off each other in really entertaining ways.
3. Your favouriteside quest.
I don’t think we really… do side quests… Numenera iskind of like Side Quests: the RPG, the whole point of it is that you’resupposed to explore and get distracted by random shit and race off in twentydifferent directions at once.
5. Favourite NPC.
Ssenofyn Srelthyn Syntysus! Ssen’s hilarious to me because he’sso consistently deadpan in the face of wacky shenanigans and questionablesocial skills. He cares only for science and it’s delightful. It also means he’sreally good at the job of Being A Party NPC: all he wants is for the party tokeep running around and exploring, so he’s content to stand in the backgroundand only help out when asked. He lets the PCs do all the Fun Stuff, and it makes sense for his character that he’d act that way.
7. Your favouritedowntime activity.
We don’t really… do downtime either… I mean, we could do downtime, but I’m a veryimpatient man and want lots of things to be happening at all times. Okay, wejust jumped out of a plane after encountering/rescuing a new PC and there’snothing immediately important happening, this would be a really good time torelax and take stock and have some RP where we get to know our new teammateright? Well, we could do that, or wecould investigate this weird space lego in a nearby pond let’s do thatinstead!!
11. How often do youplay and how often would you ideally like to play?
We play pretty irregularly? Mostly as a side-effect of wowthere are so many different time zones and conflicting schedules at play here. We’ve switched to play-by-post rather than having actual sessions, which has helpeda lot with the scheduling issues, but we still don’t play very often. I’m like68% sure we’re maybe on hiatus until the new books come out?
13. Introduce yourcurrent party.
There are three!
Draolis party: Tom Sideways (Charming Jack who Works theBack Alleys), useless layabout on a quest to locate a gun which fires weird timebullets and also an occasional pawn in his crime lord brother’s scheming; Aeli(Clever Glint who Crafts Illusions), a con artist who got herself involved inOracle’s political shenanigans; Styx (Ultraterrestrial Glaive who IntegratesWeaponry), a boisterous adventurer from the Timelands who found herselfstranded in the Ninth World by accident and is seeking to repair her worldlineshifter; Oracle (NPC), an overdramatic “””terrorist””” who likes to yell aboutpolitics a lot.
Navarene party: Enodyne (Perceptive Nano who Abides inCrystal), an imperious supervillain with a mysterious backstory; Levin (WeirdNano who Rides the Lightning), Aeon Priest, mom friend, and also an avidknitter; Glitz (Manipulative Jack who Possesses a Shard of the Sun), a fancyboy who wears impractical shoes and is super Extra at all times; Aradi (GuardedSeeker who Manipulates Force), a Gaian who is just here to explore ancientruins and doesn’t know why these strange people keep talking to her like shetolerates them.
Techhunter party: Mote (Mystical Jack who Fuses Mind andMachine), a space ape from space on a quest to find her lost god; Flux Dynamo(Mercurial Glaive who Employs Magnetism), who is ADHD as hell and loves spaceso much you guys so much; Ssenofyn(NPC), who is just here to do science.
17. What are somehouse rules that your group has?
Anyone who draws an art gets an experience point, AKA therule which lets Hap advance at approximately the ten times the rate of everyoneelse put together (I’m not deliberately spamming art specifically for the purposeof XP gain, I’m just Like This). The GM insists this is fine.
The new books are gonna be introducing Player Intrusionsalso, which presumably is gonna mean players get to spend an XP to make goodthings happen to themselves. The GM’s said that if there’s no mechanism to letplayers make bad things happen tothemselves they’ll houserule it in just for me, which on the one hand I feelkind of offended but on the other hand shit yes time to shoot myself repeatedlyin the foot!! I promise to use this power responsibly and only cause disastersfor myself so I don’t ruin the game for other people. On the gripping hand thisshould go some way to correcting the ridiculous amount of XP I’ve accidentallyaccumulated with my constant fanart, so it all balances out in the end I guess.
19. Do you or yourparty have any dice superstitions?
Nope! Except that back when we were using physical diceinstead of a dicebot Jack’s dice hated them, which was less superstition andmore objective fact because one time we had a session while they were visitingme and they borrowed a set of my dice and suddenly they could make non-shittyrolls.
23. Do you usepremade modules or original campaigns?
Mostly original stuff I think? Don’t look at me, I only haveaccess to the character-creation books, I don’t know how much of what goes on is canon and how much the GM makes up on the spot. Fortunately all my characters areeither foreigners or complete idiots so my relative ignorance of the NinthWorld doesn’t matter super much.
29. Do you prefer RPheavy sessions or combat sessions?
As a GM? RP sessions, mostly because the game I’m GMing usesa ridiculously ruleslite system so there’s not really anything interesting youcan do with combat. This might change if I ever get organised enough to runsomething with more than a single page of rules. But also, when the players are RPing and treating their PCs like characters instead of sticks to solve problems with, that’s super super pleasing for me because it feels like they’re enjoying themselves and getting engaged with what’s going on.
31. What is yourfavourite class? Favourite race?
My favourite type is jack! They seem to be, like… the bestset up for interacting with the world in the way I want to interact with it. Ilike having the variety in what I can do and I’m not super bothered by the lackof high-powered/specialised skills. It looks like the new book’s going to bemaking jacks their own Thing instead of just being a nonspecialised mishmash ofall the other character types so iunno, we’ll see how that one shakes out.
Numenera doesn’t really doraces the way DND does races. You get races, but they’re in place ofdescriptors rather than a separate trait. I ain’t give a shit about function orbuilding a mechanically-optimised character, if you tell me I can either pick aspecies trait or a character trait I’ll pick the character trait. So I guess Iprefer the default “race” (which is… not necessarily human, Mote’s a spaceape but she still counts as the default mechanically) because then I can picksomething else interesting to have going on. I did super enjoy playing an ArtificiallyIntelligent character one time, but the GM let me pick two descriptors so I wasAI/Mad and honestly if I could’ve only picked one, Mad all the way.
