Trick or treat!
🍬 Treat! Here's one of my favourite excerpts from The Power and the Glory:
Lian went to his own room. He opened the door and stopped. He bowed after only a second's hesitation. "Your Highness." Mirio looked up. There was a coldness in his eyes that Lian had never seen before, and he was holding… Oh. When Mirio last saw the photos of Lian's parents he hadn't seemed to recognise them. Obviously he had now. Meeting Abihira must have reminded him. Lian stepped into the room and closed the door behind him. No point in letting the servants hear everything. It would be all over the palace within hours if they did. Mirio put the photos back on the table and stood up. An uncomfortable silence fell. "What do you think they mean?" Lian asked at last. Mirio blinked in confusion. Lian elaborated, "The photos. You must have some theory about them." Slowly Mirio said, "I have. But nothing I've thought of makes any sense." "Then ask me. I'll tell you the truth." It struck Lian suddenly that he'd wanted Mirio to figure everything out. He just hadn't expected the awkwardness that would inevitably follow. With surprising bluntness Mirio asked, "Are you Abi's brother?" "Yes." "…Does she know?" "Yes. I've just talked to her." Mirio relaxed slightly. "I suppose it's none of my business. But I think of Abi as my real sister, not just as a foster sister, and I will do my best to protect her if at all possible. So I must ask: what did you do to get banished?" "What makes you assume I was banished?" "No one has ever mentioned your existence. Either you're illegitimate, in which case you would only have a photo of one of Abi's parents, or you did something scandalous. And if it was scandalous enough to ensure no one ever spoke of you again, then…" "You're afraid I'll be a bad influence?" Lian finished. "Or that I'm dangerous? What I did was… Well, it was very simple, really. I meddled in necromancy and accidentally killed myself. Then I brought myself back to life."

End of the Year Writeblr
4. what is your favorite line you wrote this year?
OOH that's a tough one!! I have,, literally my entire draft so far to go off of, but I do think this one sentence I've shared before sticks with me:
I really thought becoming a vampire meant I would be swept away to some faraway castle where I would be courted by its enigmatic lord, where I would become the subject of poems, the next muse for the dark and mysterious, and no one would think of lifting a finger to hurt me ever again.
6. did you make any new writeblr friends? give a shout-out! if not, it's time to praise one of your old besties <3
I did!! I created this blog this year; shoutout to some peeps I've interacted with: @writernopal (hi!!) @liv-is @sam-glade
Also sorry I haven't been super active on here as of late; it can be a bit exhausting trying to keep up with a whole bunch of things at once! I'm keeping up the writing though and am eager to share my progress!
8. what are three things you're looking forward to next year?
Well, the biggest thing is...I'm on track to finishing my entire first draft next year!! So I'm looking forward to that, as well as revisions, finding beta readers, and hopefully polishing my manuscript! I also may start working on other WIPs in the meantime, and look into finding an agent, and maybe even outline book 2 of this series since it's been roughly plotted out!
There's also some new books and shows coming out next year that I'm excited for!

♻️🌋?
Thanks for the ask, friend <3 I'll answer for Invisible Girl! 🚂
♻️Imagine you decide to re-work your story as a completely different genre. Would the plot still work? What would change? (Question asker can pick the genre or leave it up to the writer)
Ooh, this is so neat! Right now, The Invisible Girl is an adventure/heist story, but I think most of the important elements would be safe if it was a murder mystery. Possibly even sci fi? I think sci fi would be cool, actually, with a huge space train...many thoughts 😉
🌋Describe the climax or highest-tension part of your story as best as you can without spoilers!
The Invisible Girl climax (as of now) takes place around midnight on the final journey day, on top of the moving train! There are gunshots and people falling off and shouted confessions and sacrifices...and hopefully a twist that the cleverest of readers might see coming--a twist that makes you think "ah. that makes sense and really ties things up."
Send me a plot ask?

Happy STS! Share your favorite piece of meta-lore for your WIPs/books/stories! (by meta-lore I mean, inspirations, how you arrived at your vision, what drove you to form it into what it is today, etc, things like that!)
This is such an interesting question! And what a fun term, meta-lore. I don’t have a meta wip but I do have a LORE Series!
The primary influence for it is D&D. I have loved making the campaign for my family, it has color coded magic too (although idk if my players have picked up on that).
The other inspiration may seem a little less 1:1 but after reading the His Dark Materials series, i kept thinking about my own series. I’ve made a post about it before, but the third book involved such a large scale, with angels and the afterlife and multiple worlds and the whole dust thing???
And it pulled it off so well, that it really inspired me for my own writing. That large scale stuff was feeling intimidating, and like it might not be feasible. I mean i called it the “Legend Of Reality’s End” Series, that promises big stuff. Was that smart tho? Could I deliver?
And now I think I can. It might take more rounds of editing, but Pullman showed it can be done.

Happy STS! Tell me about the first time you let someone read something you wrote. Were you excited? Nervous? Cool as a cucumber?
oh god uh. i was probably excited, mostly. i was maybe five or six and i wrote like a fantasy story about what happened when me + my friend were playing pretend in the woods behind her house + showed it to my mom. i was still a baby so i didn't have the Anxiety yet lol. in middle school, when i'd grown the part of my brain that thinks critically, i wrote a vampire epic and loaned it to a friend to read and i was excited then, too. i Wish i had that kind of confidence now lmao i'd be unstoppable, but i guess i do still get mostly excited sharing my writing-- only really nervous when a negative opinion from whoever i'm sharing it with could crush me like a bug . thank you for asking!

For your Get-To-Know-The-Writer ask game ♥️
hello hello!
Black (Would you want to live in one of the fictional worlds you’ve created?):
So, I've really only created one fully fictional world in my writing (everything else takes place in a real location) and that is for The Girl Queen. And it would be a firm no on living in that one considering it's about to devolve into war. Plus, as much as I find it interesting writing about life in a monarchical government, I don't think I would actually enjoy living under it lol.
Blue (What’s more important to you: characters or plot?):
Characters definitely. When I'm writing, it's pretty typical for me to naturally change or modify the plot as I go -- sometimes drastically changing it -- so I'm pretty relaxed about sticking close to the original plot of whatever I'm writing.
Characters, on the other hand, are something that I feel that I really have to nailed down towards the beginning of the process and they rarely ever go through major changes once I start writing. It's kind of inconvenient sometimes because I can get so hung up on fleshing out a character that I don't get to the actual writing portion.
Clear (Do your characters control where the story goes or do you maintain control?):
Unfortunately, my characters are not masters of their own fates, so the overarching plot stays the same. The way we get to the end may change a bit -- still not a lot -- or some secondary plots might develop because of the characters, but the end is already decided.

New writing game because I’m so tired and I’ve been sad that I haven’t been up for as much writeblr lately.
So
Reblog this with one line, devoid of context, that you wrote today (or the last time you wrote).
I’ll start:
It wasn’t, really. Not nearly as sharp as chocolate.
I’ll gently tag @writernopal @moonluringfrost @abalonetea @author-a-holmes@ albatris @sithbelle @moonshinemagpie @keysandopenmind @mister-writes @gummybugg @sam-glade @stesierra @akiwitch and @k-v-briarwood because that was who I could come up with off the top of my head but if you see this consider yourself tagged!

💙 🔮 ?
💙 - When you first learned about the Queer community, did you immediately realize ‘That’s me!’ Or did you consider yourself a ‘really good ally’ for some time?
So I actually learned about the community after I realized I was bisexual. Like a long time after.
I live in a yeehaw state (Texas) and growing up, I didn't realize there was a wider community until I joined tumblr back in 2014/2015. Now I had a lot of friends who were LGBT+ and knew of other classmates who I wasn't friends with part of the community. But that was basically my little world.
I've never been someone who feels included or welcomed in most communities. And the queer community is the same way. Where I live, most queer spaces are bars/clubs. A lot of the queer friends I've made as an adult are much, much older than me. Which I do appreciate on one hand. On another hand, I do wish I could interact with more queer individuals closer to my own age and in places I could frequent more often.
I'm also a huge introvert tho, and I don't mind looking from afar and being in my own little queer space with my friends. We have our own little community and I enjoy that a lot too.
It was nice learning that my feelings I had growing up were normal, and that I wasn't broken or disgusting for having them.
🔮 - What Was the Moment you Realized you were Queer?
Hahaha this is such a loaded question! Maybe for some (or a lot!) of people, there is one defining moment where everything clicks. Like a movie or something. But for me, there was never just The Moment. There were a lot of little teases and nudges, a tug of war of sorts, before I accepted it.
I hung around a lot with kids in middle school that would later turn out to be queer. At the time, none of us really knew the words to describe things. We were testing out boundaries on one another. Kisses on the cheek, hand-holding, cuddling, groping, etc.
I avoided my own sexuality like the plaque. The repression is something that touches every aspect of my life, and so even when I had an epiphany or a queer moment, I would smother it.
That being said, I did have one moment that I could not get out of my mind nor completely smother. I wouldn't say it was the defining moment, or anything like that, but it was the first push.
It was middle school, again. And at the time, I attended youth group every wednesday. It was something to do as I was bullied a lot in middle school and at least at youth group, everyone was pretty nice and there was no bullying. Now, this youth group was going on a camping trip up to Oklahoma over a weekend. Friday through Sunday.
I wanted to go so badly as I never got to travel that far growing up. And so my mom agreed and let me go.
Youth group camp is. An experience. Unless you yourself have gone, you don't really know how strange it is. I have a lot of stories from this camp, which wasn't just our youth group, but many others as well.
The girls were paired in one large room and the boys had a different one. We didn't have cabins, just one large room filled with metal bunk beds and a connected bathroom with showers and toilets.
I, being my fat awkward self, always changed within a shower stall. As did most girls. This was a mixed age group, however. There were kids as young as 5 and as old as 17 all together.
I was brushing my teeth at the sinks, and my gums kept bleeding 'cause I had dental problems at the time and the toothbrush was new, and thus the bristles were stiff. To my right, an older girl and her mother were arguing about something. There was quite a bit of chatter going about, and I was taught not to eavesdrop growing up, so I was just trying to mind my own business.
This girl next to me was older, probably around 16. I think the girl had ran into some sort of poison ivy or had bug bites on her back. She finally got annoyed enough with her mother that she just tore her shirt off right then and there. And she wasn't even wearing a bra.
Now this drew my eye, cause like I said, no one changed out in the open. And not just that, but this girl had been walking around without a bra on during the day? It was a concept so foreign to me I ended up staring at her through the mirror.
I had never seen another girl's breasts before. And it shocked my system. I ended up giving up on brushing halfway through and going to bed immediately.
Even at the time, I knew that my feelings regarding what I saw would not be accepted and felt foreign. So I kept it to myself. But this time, I couldn't really smother the feelings and thoughts like I could before. Instead, I just shoved it into the back of my mind.
I didn't realize I was queer in that moment, per se, but it did help set the stage and start breaking down the walls I built. Other moments stacked on top of that one was what did those walls in. But it took me years. Up until I was an adult, in fact.
This is long enough 'cause I'm wordy as hell, so I won't get into it. But I would say that memory/story is the easiest to tell and one of the defining moments I have regarding my own bisexuality.
--
Sorry this is so long LMAO I like giving context to things. Thank you for the ask!

Happy STS! What are your favorite character interactions to write? (arguments, scheming, banter, first meetings, chance encounters, things like that!)
Happy STS! :D
Definitely banter, because it's fun to have characters snarking at each other :D Especially if those characters are Diarnlan and Karandren, because they can say the most insane things imaginable and still make perfect sense :D

Happy STS! Where do you imagine your books? As in, once it's written or bound or whatever else, whose hands do you imagine it in? What do you hope it will do for those people?
Happy STS, friend!
When I imagine people reading my books, it's mostly family and friends, since my goal right now is to have something finished to the point where I can begin accepting critique on it. I have a few friends of my parents who've published a book or two, and I plan to ask them to read my work and also how they embarked on the publishing journey, cause that's an eventual dream of mine. My book in the library for anyone who happens upon it eeeeeeee
Thanks for stopping by! <3

Happy WBW! Do you have any in-lore/universe holidays for your WIP? If so, what are they and how did you come up with them? (Bonus, do you have a favorite?)
YOU’D THINK I WOULD, WOULDN’T YOU
I think there are probably some sort of seasonal festival for each season for the humans and the citizens of the city of Vanithea, but I haven’t developed them too much because I always forget they exist.
And I know that there are faery festivals, which is just my name for the courtship parties that I don’t want to use the word orgy for.
That might have to be the favorite, because it gets Zach sent headfirst into the plot without warning.
There’s also definitely a contest for elves about who can grow the best plants, because their culture is so centered around gardening, but I have no idea when it happens or the different categories they’re judged on. And elves don’t come into the books until way later in the series, so. I don’t have to worry about it yet.
