I saw your posts about fewer questions in the writeblr community! I think why I personally don’t ask questions often is that I don’t know where to start. I feel like I’m following blogs midway through their wips. Do you have any suggestions for some i guess ive breaker questions I could ask you (and other writing blogs)?

I think that's probably a pretty common feeling! You can always just send an ask to the effect of "Hey, I'm new to your writing, but [insert detail or title or name] caught my attention! Can you tell me more about that?"

I always feel so weird talking about my writing, so thank you and @flowercrowngods for making me feel a little better about it!

One thing I LOVE, and it seems other people really liked as well, is the line:

"They're too young for wrinkles but Steve can see where they will eventually make their home, a whole future on Eddie's face".

I just, I don't know what happened. My hand slipped and this came out!

Steve can picture their future in this moment, it's as though it's solidifying for him. What had been uncertain all of a sudden becomes clear and he wants so so badly to see Eddie older.

For them both to be older, to make it.

And Eddie just being so fricken sappy with all the kisses, making Steve laugh only to jokingly reprimand him for laughing too hard to kiss properly.

My wheelhouse is angst and hurt and comfort, but this felt so nice to write. Like, AHH! I just want to hug them both -is that unhinged? Let me worry about that.

DESERT SETTING! What kind of things from real life deserts inspire you the most ? Or are incorporated or changed into The Goddess’s Eye?

Ooh to answer this I feel I need to preface my reply with: Eye's inspiration was uniquely drawn from a dream I had, and egged on less by deserts proper and more the..hm. The vibes, shall we say, of films like Mad Max and Waterworld. The feel of a post-apocalyptic world so far past the destruction/extinction event that the survivors have forgotten there was anything to survive, that this is just how life is. Things aren't great but life goes on, building up the pieces from the ashes and growing anew. The desert-ness of things was more or less just the direction I chose to go in what caused/resulted from said apocalyptic event. At risk of sounding dismissive, the setting itself is more of a set piece than anything I'm super attached to, yknow??

With that out of the way, the biggest things from real life that get injected into Eye in a meaningful way are definitely the animals. All the wildlife in Eye is at least built on an irl creature. Megala, for example (the creature Leonard is) are heavily based on the irl (extinct) megalania a massive prehistoric monitor lizard sharing heavy resemblance to komodo dragons. But with some twists. Obviously :p Night boars are a combination of a javalina and a babirusa, but their tusks are Even Worse.

HELLO I don’t know anything about King’s Quest! I’ve never even heard of it before. What’s it like, and how did it inspire your work?

Hello! Thanks for asking! This is going to be a bit of a long answer, so apologies in advance for the long post. XD

King's Quest is a fantasy game series by Sierra Entertainment, and the original series is made of 8 games (plus a reimagining of the same name that was released in 2015), all going in chronological order if I'm not mistaken. Depending on which game in the series you played, it involved a combo of point-and-click and typing in commands and/or just point-and-click to solve puzzles, complete tasks, and get past enemies to achieve some overall goal (often defeating a Big Bad at the end for story reasons).

Also, if you die (and there are MANY ways to die, ranging from nightmare fuel to straight-up hilarious), the narrator will make fun of your death. Literally. Just search up a compilation of deaths from one of the King's Quest games on Youtube and you'll get what I mean. 

This franchise also has three books that are very hard to find used copies of nowadays, but I discovered that someone scanned them and shared files of those scanned copies on Reddit if you want to read those (I also have plans to read them and writing book reviews for each of them this year). Said books take place inbetween certain games, though, so be careful of spoilers. 

As for my personal experience, I grew up playing King's Quest V in particular on the computer, mistook the title of it to just be "Sierra," and then I literally spent DECADES trying to find the game series again and only re-discovered it last year! It's now available through platforms like GOG.com and Steam for you to purchase and play for yourself. 

The thing about King’s Quest, and I’ve mentioned it before, is that EVERY ITEM in each game is always useful for something. It might be an immediate task you find shortly after you find the item, or it might be much later in the game. If you forget to grab an item, or use the wrong item at the wrong time and realize later on that you actually needed it for a future task (some items are used unconventionally which doesn’t help, like using a pie to get rid of a Yeti in King’s Quest V), then you’re stuck. Walkthroughs exist for most if not all the games online to prevent this nowadays, but it’s still easy to screw up something and have to restart from an earlier save point. 

I thought about this for a while, while replaying the games, realized that there weren’t really any fantasy novels I’d read that played with that element, and it led me to think: Why don’t I just try writing a novel inspired by King’s Quest? My goal is to capture the tone of the game (it’s a mix of lighthearted and darker moments, honestly) in its writing, but also add in the challenge of every item the main characters use HAS to be useful, even if used in an unconventional way. It’s been super fun writing this novel so far for sure!

So. My tire exploded this morning on the highway. Scared the bejesus out of me. I'm fine, I had a fullsize in the trunk and my meta came and saved me and followed me home before we went to go pick up our partner from the airport.

this happened at like. 5 in the morning. it's currently winging in on 2am. (don't worry, i had about 6 hours of sleep in the interim)

I have done my level best to not apologize for "breaking my car".

It occurs to me that there are some traumas that are going to be harder to shake the after affects of because of the (thankful) rarity of the trigger point coming up.

I was in a car accident when I was 18-19 (I think i'd just turned 19, it was spring semester finals so it was like May probably). Just me, just my car. And some trees. I've talked about it in more detail a few times. It was scary, the minivan was totaled, the airbags went off and my jaw got jammed about 2 months before my wisdom teeth surgery was scheduled. it was a lot.

I wore the shadows of those bruises for half a year. I wear the terror of the incident as it was happening every time i drive on rough roads (fuck you google maps - yes it's faster but also *what the fuck*).

I wear the devastation of my parents being more upset that I totaled the minivan than relieved that I was alive every fucking day. And moreso when I have messed something up.

I'd gotten in trouble for breaking things before - i'm unlearning the label of "destructive" and the designation of "unobservant" and "careless" very slowly. This was the first time it was made absolutely clear to me that my life was worth less to my parents than a 1998 dodge grand caravan with no working a/c in 2011 (which, by the way, was less than the tow fee to get it off the road and to a junkyard, let alone the cost of fixing what had been damaged in the wreck).

I was then accused of lying about how the accident happened for 10 years. Apparently 1 decade is the length of time i need to keep my story straight in order to be believed about things.

I still sometimes get shit about it from my family, by the way. Not as often anymore, not since they decided to believe that I really did just glance down to make sure the bug that had flown in through the window and landed in my lap wasn't going to sting me. One of the absolute most terrifying days of my life is a joke. Because I am worth less to them than a 12 year old minivan. The only reason a bug came through the window, by the way, is because of the lack of a/c. If my parents had forked over the cash to get that fixed properly, they wouldn't have been down a minivan.

(a minivan my *sister* is upset with me for totaling because she claims it was meant to be *hers*, according to her and backed up by my parents. why i was the only one who ever drove it at that point, i don't know. Make it make sense. You can't.)

it's been....it's been 12 years damn. it's been 12 years and they still get mad at me for the fact that the van is gone. None of them ever, in the times this is brought up, ever mentions that they're glad I wasn't more injured, that I didn't die.

because i'm not worth more than whatever a 1998 dodge grand caravan with no a/c was in 2011 to them.

And now I apologize for the fact that things completely outside of my control happen and items break from overuse because clearly it's my fault and i'm terrified i'll learn i was worth even less than that.

God I hate my family....

Hi, I have a question about your Candle Crafting set: to which textures is the Tier Market Display referenced? I suddenly got blue flashing, but I couldn't find in either the object's catalog description or your downlaod description which texture reference it is.

Hi there,

The display used to be repositoried to the tier display from The Spice Must Flow. However, that has been re-repositoried to the winery cask shelf with the Spice of Life consolidation. So the blue flashing is a bit of a transitional hiccup.

Today's Incandescent Candle update re-repositories the Tier Market Display to the Winery Cask Shelf. So just re-download the set and it'll resolve itself.

You love a good poem? How's this one

The poem reads:

I'd love to write you a poem; you'd love to carve it out of me. I'd give it freely; you'd search for the words while I'm bleeding. l'd like to show you my meaning; you are already leaving, and the stains left on the kitchen tiles are the sonnet you couldn't handle reading.

And I DO love this, particularly how you establish the long E sound in the second and third line. The repetitive fall of freely, bleeding, meaning, and leaving creates a jarring tone on the word stains, which serves to emphasize it SO neatly! And then ending the poem on reading ties the whole thing up with a really neat little bow.

10/10 and that’s not even getting into the implied storyline or gory imagery at play here

From Episode One: "The Discovery of the Titania" - The kids seemed to stare into the black abyss which was the cockpit windows spanning across from left to right, getting a slight glimpse at a rainbow of buttons inside the spacecraft. Those black windows were adjacent to that of an ethereal starless midnight sky. They were taunted by its height; it was like they were standing beneath a titan. Both of them being below average height for a child didn’t help matters in quelling the silent terror of laying their eyes on Titania’s seemingly massive stature as a spacecraft. 

Now, this may be considered "cheating", but here is a pantsed beginning for Episode Two that I'll write in real-time! (even though I haven't finished episode one yet LOL) -

EPISODE TWO: "Intra"duction

"We're counting on you to save us, Miss Arietta and Mister Quintus," exclaimed an old and gruff voice, reminiscent of military generals out of the AI's front-facing speakers. Through the confident and assertive cadence that came with his voice, they noticed that those vocal frequencies lightly rumbled through the ship, and that startled both the kids, but mostly Lyric.

Quintus leaned forward to click off the communications, with a sharp click that let him know that process had been successful. Turning his sight to the rainbow of buttons in front of him, he clicked a light blue one, and almost instantly, the harsh, and noisy melody of the engines let everyone know that life had officially been given to this long-dormant craft that had sat in construction for a long while.

Almost ten minutes had gone by since the initial startup of the Titania, and Lyric looked outside the large plexiglass dome window. Many thoughts had run through his mind as he stared into the vast, and beautiful abyss of pure darkness speckled with many little dots of white light. Many of which seemed to twinkle a sort of greeting as they left behind the distant blue-purple marble of Terra Melodiae.

He had remembered that in science class, Lyric was never given the answer to how big the universe was. At the time, it seemed inconsequential to think that the universe had an unlimited breadth of many planets, stars, and other unexplored galaxies.

Yet, he had the perfect piece of logic to complete that puzzle. The one piece of logic that stated that yes, the universe is in fact an endless wasteland with an extraordinary abundance of intergalactic landmarks that have been untouched by human footprints.

As he zoned out on these many thoughts, he noticed that the number of specks of white light outside the window had grown significantly. That couldn't have just been a dream, Lyric thought to himself.

The ship seemed to abruptly slow to a halt as it hit orbit and was taken into the merciful weightlessness of the final frontier. It was like they had dove into a large sea of stars, because they shined so marvelously against the dark sky.

They seemed to be slow dancing in space, like a graceful ballerina following steps with a leisurely waltz, because they were moving so slowly in the orbit, that it was hard to percieve if they were actually moving.

I know voting for a 3rd party can be scary, but please at least do some research and consider it. If you vote for Biden despite everything he's doing there is absoluetly no reason for the Democratic party to change their behavior.

Biden does not care about queer people, trans people, women, or poc. His only concern is lining his pockets with money from the gas in Gaza and the Ben Gurion Canal project.

i wont speak for poc but as a queer trans womanish person i am telling you that my rights being taken away is because of trump putting people in power (esp in the supreme court) who had the same politics as him. biden is not the reason i am losing my rights.
