Yesterday was Flag Day here and my college had a flag raising ceremony. The students were super excited- waving flags, clutching red and green and white balloons, wearing scarves with the faces of revered leaders. During the ceremony there were speeches, flag raising, and gazillions of balloons released. Now the students are eagerly awaiting National Day in a few weeks. (Again many apologies for my poor quality photos. It is generally not okay to take pictures of the faces of people here, so I had to try to capture the moment without faces... Tricky!)

I recently started going to Arabic tutoring a few times a week. I've been learning lots and am thrilled to be understanding more (chwey chwey). But another benefit? My Arabic teacher loves to bake so I'm always rewarded by something delicious. That's my kind of studying!

First I must tell you that this commercial is probably my favorite commercial and correctly displays my level of excitement for Pumpkin Spice Lattes.
Wendi, also shares this similar affection for this craft beverage.
Since living in the Arab world (now in two different countries), We have yet to see this seasonal delight grace any Starbucks we've been to.
Every year we come back to the states during the summer, but we leave to go back within weeks or days of the Pumpkin Spice release date. So Wendi decided to write Starbucks and tell them how much she would love to see Starbucks bring PSLs to the gulf.
Then just the other day we walked into a mall, and I stopped in my tracks when I saw this.
I can't imagine how ridiculous my face must have looked at this site, but it was pure bliss. Thank you Starbucks for listening to your customers even if Wendi's email wasn't the catalyst for this event.

This was an old outdoor souk that burned down. When it was rebuilt they enclosed it with 3 floors and A/C.
