Mpreg is my kryptonite. Seriously. If there’s ever a ship you want me to check out, and you want an absolute guarantee that I’ll read it? Drop me an mpreg fic. I may or may not enjoy it, but I will NEVER be able to resist the siren call of mpreg. You’d think I’d be more drawn to ABO as a result, but eh. Anyway.

The dynamic here is so good. I love McFassy fics where James is something of a lil shit. Because let’s face it - he absolutely is, lol. His restlessness is so well conveyed; I’ve never been (and never will be) pregnant, but somehow I still know how he feels. And Michael being the softer, perhaps more caring one of the two is lovely. He’s certainly a tad bit overprotective, but luckily for him, it’s endearing. Their relationship is so affectionate and playful. It’s a genuine pleasure to read these two guys just existing in the world and loving each other, eagerly awaiting the birth of their child.

I love the changing names for their kiddo too, shifting as they try different ones out. That kid, when they’re born, will be so fucking cherished and adored. Also, if you read other fics of this ship by one of these writers, you start to recognize familiar tropes. Those tropes are like a warm blanket for me whenever I reread this. Reminds me of a time, years ago, when we were all just enjoying reading, writing, and experiencing the relationship - friendly, sexual, and all points in between - of these two actors. Fun times, my dudes.

So I think Piper, Bug and I would all say that @luninosity @paper-storm @cable-knit-sweater and @musette22 are some of the best writers in this little fandom who really capture the Evanstan spirit really well.

And I also want to add @wintersoldier1989 and @thedamageofherdays because they write some really awesome stuff as well.

We are probably missing some great authors here. But like these are the first people I think of when I think of Evanstan writers!

8. What kind of document do you use to write?

I write directly into the AO3 text box. Just kidding, that would be insane. What if you lose your draft??? No, I use mostly Google docs, although I use my notes app a lot too, and actually wrote most of my first fics on that!

9. What’s your favorite line(s) or scene(s) that you have written?

I think probably anything in my Evanstan Fic You Make My Dreams Come True, but especially the ending 💖 And if I can add a favorite line, it’s probably this one from Taste It: “Bucky ambles over. “Cap flavored huh?” He says, smirking at Steve. “You ever tasted yourself Stevie?”

17. Are there any writers and/or stories that you consider an influence?

There are honestly too many to name!! Before getting active in fandom I definitely read a lot of books, but I can’t think of any authors outside of fic writers that influence my writing now, even if they probably do. So just when it comes to fic writers - for Evanstan, I definitely look up to anything @musette22 or @luninosity have written, and I definitely think they influenced my writing in some way.

For Stucky, I don’t even know where to begin. I look up to so many writers and try to learn from them, or just look up in awe at them hoping I’ll be able to write like them some day 😂 A short, non-exhaustive list would include: @dreamsinthewitchouse @rillils @alpineandbucky @sparkagrace @circaclementine @musette22 (again! Damn you Minnie!), @burnin-brighter, @dharmasharks, @buckyismybicycle and @theycallmeinevitable. And there are so so many more. I think if I reblog a fic that I liked, it’s safe to say I probably look at that writer with admiration and let them influence me in some way, especially as I’m just getting started.

Alright, looks like we’ve got a rough idea for a plot for this year’s Evanstan Round Robin! Thanks so much to everyone who pitched in ideas <3

Combining all your suggestions, it looks like we’re going with a strangers/friends to lovers scenario where one or both of the boys miss their flight and get stranded somewhere due to weather conditions around the holidays (either Christmas or just NYE) and are ‘forced’ to share a space together – either a hotel room, a holiday cottage, or Chris’s place in Boston. That will of course offer plenty of potential for growing romantic and sexual tension (lingering glances, changing clothes in front of each other, falling asleep on the couch together or even sharing a bed, etc.) So what initially looks like bad luck ultimately turns out to be the best thing that could’ve ever happened to them…

We just have to decide whether we want to make it an AU or ‘real life’ Chris and Seb! I’ll put everyone’s ideas under the cut so you guys can browse them again if you want, and then I’d like to ask you to comment on this post with either ‘AU’ or ‘Real Life’ so I can keep a tally. Also feel free to add any comments and preferences (for instance: Christmas vs NYE, what location they get stranded in, and, in the case of an AU, whether they'd be strangers or friends)

I’ll try to take it all into account, and then I’ll send everyone an email this weekend with the final idea and questions regarding availability for the posting schedule.

I’m thinking an NYE thing. Maybe their flight(s) get canceled due to weather and they can’t get back stateside (maybe they know each other maybe they don’t), and because whatever city they’re in is a popular destination for New Years, hotels are limited and they end up in a one-bed situation trying to make the best of it and being stranded together in a new city on a new-slate/possibilities holiday

Ohhh I have an idea for a fic! It’s an AU so idk how we feel about this. But how about writer Sebastian wanting to get away from New York for a while to write his book. His college friend, Chris, who is an actor, has offered up his spare bedroom in his home in a small town right outside of Boston. The only thing Sebastian has to do is walk Dodger once in a while if Chris is off on set. They just…didn’t realize spending that much time together would impact them the way it does. Maybe Sebastian can’t go home for the holidays bc of snow and gets stuck there, ends up celebrating holidays with Chris’s family. Idk, so many options for all the fun holiday things

2021 The Old Guard Round Robin

Welcome to the 2021 The Old Guard Round Robin event.

Anyone who has written for The Old Guard is welcome to join in the festive fun of creating a team-focused story with a group of other writers.

If you haven’t seen or participated in a Robin Robin, here are the basics (h/t to @luninosity for her original Evanstan Round Robin rules that I’ve adapted here).

A round robin fic is where everyone agrees on a vague plot, and we all write one chapter of it (except for the organizer, in this case myself, who writes the first and last chapter). You will have an estimated 3 days to write your chapter, once the previous chapter is posted, although this will depend on how many people sign up. Signing up means you are committed to writing at least 500 words (although are very welcome to write more than that!) and posting it on an agreed-upon date. Posting will take place sometime between the next week or two, and the week of Christmas Day, also dependent on how many people sign up.

If you are interested in participating, fill out this form https://forms.gle/nnLT4NXuzKVeCs6t7 before November 15, 2021 ends everywhere in the world.

There are more rules/general guidelines under the cut. By signing up you are agreeing to these terms and conditions so please review them before doing so.

1. You are committing to writing one chapter, posted on an agreed-upon date, of at least 500 words. If *life* gets in the way, as it does, and you will be unable to fulfill your commitment, please give me as much notice as is possible so I can reorganize the schedule. Also, if something might come up that day, it’s always better to post earlier than later.

2. Our goal is to be inclusive and to have fun, so please avoid anything that would need an AO3 warning (character death, underage, etc) and topics that may be triggers or squicks (for example non-con, abuse, self-harm, or really *heavy* BDSM).

3. Sex scenes are fine but please keep it contained within your own contribution - not everyone is comfortable writing sex, so please don’t get the person following you right to the brink and then hand the climax off to the next person (exception: if you know and have discussed this with the person writing immediately after you, and they’re cool with that, then that’s fine.)

4. As I hope should be obvious, racism or bigotry of any kind will absolutely not be tolerated.

5. Remember, this is meant to be a collaborative effort. Your chapter should, at least somewhat, pick up where the previous chapter left off. For example, if someone says they’re in a cabin in Norway, don’t randomly without explanation decide they’re actually in a hotel in Morocco. Likewise, don’t have a character wake up and go, “wow, that last chapter was all a terrible dream!” You are not writing your own mini-fic that relates to the overall theme, you are writing the *next chapter* of a hopefully-cohesive story. Respect your fellow authors by not ignoring what they wrote in their chapters, and the person following you should do the same.

6. Have fun with it! Your chapter is still your own and you are free to be as creative as you’d like. Part of the fun is the invention and additions (not contradictions) to the story!

7. You can discuss your chapter ideas, seek input, and/or have a beta, if you want, but it can also be fun to surprise everyone when your chapter suddenly goes live. Again, have fun!

I LIVE for a touch starved/shy sub dating a service top/dom. The juxtaposition of the sub dating someone so soft and caring vs. their previous doms is the best. It’s my absolute favorite pairing. Shy sub who’s always trying their best/doesn’t wanna upset their dom paired with a confident dom who knows their sub deserves the best? Absolute gold. Combine that with a praise kink and I’d die. Who do u think out of all the ships you write (and different versions of ships like stucky) would best fit that kind of scenario?

Same! An unfortunate past leading in one hell of a future. A future full of cuddles and good feelings that is. The ultimate hurt/comfort really.

Of all the ships I write, this actually really stuck out to me as an RPF idea. Chris and Sebastian specifically.

Simply because I see a lot of writers doing experienced but subby Sebastian who's not had the best experience with those times (or maybe even just not the best time dating/being with men because of the way Hollywood is) paired with inexperienced and sort of even unrealized dom Chris (and when they begin dating is when Chris' dom side really comes out). Which, I also seem to favor with my fiction so... *shrugs*

Anyway, if you'd like to read something like that. I HIGHLY suggest:

- 30 Day OTP Porn Challenge: I've still got 12 days left to do. Day 19 has a... wobbly outline.

- College AU smutty one-shot for a friend: outline/prompt was given to me by said friend. Tony's an exchange student living in London, where he bumps into fresh from Norway student Loki, who needs help getting around. Tony offers to help, things lead to things. Smut.

- Fools Rush In: previously posted six completed chapters, but I hit a bad writer's block and took it down. I hope to someday finish it. it was one of the first long fics I started that was in-universe.

- Real Genius AU: semi-outlined, based on the 1985 movie with Val Kilmer. Chris Knight gives off heavy Tony Stark-vibes.

- Royals AU - outlined, a couple of chapters written. Kind of got the idea from the E! show The Royals. It's an ambitious fic, too. It was the first fic I brought in other characters besides the core Avengers, such as Erik Lehnsherr, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, and tbh if I were to start working on this today, I'd throw in Sam Wilson and maybe other characters.

- The Flame: another, like FRI, that was previously published on AO3. Up to five chapters, lots of scenes written but not strung together yet. Initially looks like ThunderFrost, but it is inevitably FrostIron (no Thor and Loki were not brothers). Idk if I'll ever get back to this one tbh.

- The House Guest: the storyline is all planned out, but I've only written two chapters. It's genderbent -- Antonia Stark and fem Loki Laufeyson. I've even got edits done. I'm hoping to work on it this year.

MaLoki

- Live-action Maleficent/Thor movies crossover: I've had this one in my WIP pile for almost a decade. It was something cooked up with @vikishus around the time the first Maleficent movie came out (I think). I've just never sat down to write anything for it.

Stucky

- Musician!Bucky and Firefighter!Steve, modern day au: has a storyline, and a few pieces/scenes written. (Mixed in is some SamTasha)

- The Greatest Showman-ish AU: some idea jotted down after repeated viewings of the movie lol

- Every Piece Will Find Its Place: post-Winter Soldier prompt given to me anonymously; storyline sketched out, opening written

- 1950s Matinee Idol AU: an idea I sketched from a tumblr post I saw forever ago

- Hurricane: sequel to my one ThunderFrost fic, Lead the Way. The plot's kinda there and some bits.

- The Christmas Date: my perpetual almost-done gift for a good friend. It's literally nearly done. But I can't seem to get it down.

- All I Ask: my artist!Loki and recovering vet!Bucky AU. Been working on it for about five years now. Four chapters are done, with other scenes, and a full plot sketched out.

- Nobody's Hero: a prompt sent to me anonymously that's canon divergent. Bucky and Loki meet and fall in love in the 1940s, then Bucky goes off to war and the first Cap movie ensues. Fast forward to the present day, Loki finds Winter Soldier!Bucky and fights to break through his Hydra brainwashing.

- Second Time Around: like Fools Rush In and The Flame, I removed this from AO3 when I hit a block. Three chaps and a plot 3/4 written. Bucky is more a mix of Bucky and TJ from Political Animals (cuz I started it around the time that was on the air).

- Whatever It Takes: my single Dad AU. Seven chaps completed. The whole plot done. Just gotta write it!

- Snow/Zima RP: my attempt to transform my long ago RP with my ex into a more readable fic-like story. It's not easy lol.

- I have a random OT3 prompt waiting to be written with these three. 🤷🏽‍♀️

- Bodyguard AU: got a plotline and a few scenes. Hoping to work on this soon.

- Alt Prompt 12: I posted a prompt for #12 in the 100 Ways to Say ILY challenge already, but I had another idea I sketched out that was totally different. Still might make a good one-shot.

- @teadrinkingwolfgirl's angst prompt: it's a blank doc staring at me in my Google drive.

Random Ships

- Harley/Bucky: I don't remember who sent this to me. But it's basically a DC/Marvel crossover. Joker's involved with Hydra, Harley is his Asset. She bolts, the Winter Soldier is sent after her.

- Loki/? Xmas prompt: one of those random Xmas prompts that make the rounds every year. Haven't decided who to pair him with yet.

- Fantasy Rom/Com starring Chris Pine and Tom Hiddleston: Okay, so this was taken from a random article online about fantasy romcoms that would be fun. This was one. And I was like, yo, I could write that. So far all I have is the prompt lol.

A bit of a blast from the past for today’s rec. In that it was first posted, damn, nine years ago. Nine years ago exactly in two weeks! Maybe I should have waited and posted this rec on its anniversary?

Nah. Still, decent enough timing I must say. Absolutely not planned at all.

It may be an older story, but I can assure you, it is well worth checking out. And I’m not just saying that because both of the authors are dear friends of mine. No, this fic is truly amazing. It’s my personal barometer of quality for ‘crack treated seriously’ fics, because that’s exactly what it is. It’s the most cracky premise you could ever think of - aliens made them do it - and yet… yet…

It’s so soft. And tender. The emotions are strong and real. Every now and then, the crack pokes through, but it never feels like mood whiplash. You might not think you could get that much emotional mileage out of a premise like this, but somehow, it manages - and then some. The love scene is almost unbearably beautiful, especially for a fic about being abducted by aliens who just wanna watch the characters fuck, lol.

The ending is perfect. A sublime, hilarious, “well, that happened” cap on a fic full of tender emotions and cracky comedy that makes me laugh (and sigh dreamily) every time I reread it.

Truly magical.

So! I’ve been meaning to make this post for a while but kept being busy, but let’s go ahead and throw it out there!

We’re been doing the annual Evanstan Round Robin fun for quite a few years now - it’s probably time to start thinking about this year’s version! As usual, everyone’s welcome - established and new Evanstan writers alike! It’s a fun low-stakes way to get to play in a whole big collaborative project that we create together!

I’m happy to run it again if people want, though I’m also happy to not - and I’ve done it a few times, so if someone else wants to, that’s awesome (and maybe even a good idea?) - just let me know! Really it’s just working out the schedule and creating the AO3 fic and adding everyone as co-creators! (And occasionally checking in with people if need be!)

Here’s the link to the 2017 rules post because for some reason that was the first one that came up when I was looking for Round Robin stuff on my blog. It’s basically been the same since then, and really, fundamentally, the big rule underlying all the other rules is: be respectful of your fellow contributors - like, don’t go ‘oh that previous chapter didn’t happen, it was all a dream, now here’s MY chapter,’ y’know?

Things specific for this year/questions for you all:

1) the roughly 500 word length (instead of 1k) seemed to work well last year, so maybe we’ll keep that? Obviously feel free to write more if you want and the words are flowing and the Writing Muses are singing, but no pressure - hopefully the short word count will take away some of the stress. :-)

2) there was super-vague talk of a plot about...Chris and Seb getting cast in a new film together and having to film a romance and/or sex scene...that’s an option, or we can think about other ideas! Plot thoughts?

3) thoughts on posting dates? I’m thinking we maybe start around the first week of November? Last year we went a little late - into Christmas, and after! - and it’d be nice to start a little sooner this year, but we will need a little bit of time for working out the schedule! We generally give everyone about a 3-4 day posting window, and we’ll ask if there are dates you absolutely wouldn’t be able to post, and if you’d rather be closer to the beginning, the end, or somewhere in the middle. :-)

21. Oh gosh I really admire @luninosity . The detail and description. Idk it takes a lot to make me Feel Something, ya know, but they always somehow do.
